[Music] Straight Talk from Israel you're listening to Israel News Talk [Applause] [Music] Radio you're listening to the tamarana show here at Israel news talk radio and the question of the question of the day the question of the week the question of the year the question of this decade the question of the centuries the world hates the Jews why does the world still hate the Jews we see in the United Nations all of their verdicts are against us all of their accusations are against Israel Israel Israel the Jews the Jews the Jews we're going to be talking about this because we are starting now what I call and maybe it's improper but I call it the dreaded three weeks the dreaded three weeks the these are the three weeks that lead up to the holiday of tshaba of another holiday which I dread and many Jews do it is the saddest day on the calendar for the Jewish people when many tragedies struck the Jewish people it's believed that during these three weeks and especially the nine days leading up to tshaba which means the ninth of the month the Hebrew month of a bad things happen to the Jewish people it's not a good time to go traveling we don't have parties we don't listen to music we don't buy new clothes we don't wear new clothes this is a time that's very very difficult so we're going to be talking with a rabbi on the show today about that we're also going to be exploring in one of the oldest cities of the world one of the oldest cities and that is Krone why has the world rejected the Jewish connection to the city which was the first piece of property that the Jewish people through Abraham Our Father owned it's in the Bible how can they ignore that interesting I want to say to hi to everybody who's listening in from all over the world we have from Australia and Israel a.m. us eastern time here on Israel News Talk [Applause] [Music] Radio we are back here at the Tamar show on Israel news talk radio and the question of the day is the world still hates us and why we see resolution after resolution from the United Nations the nations of the world who see how good Israel is who see what we make here how we've turned a desert into green and then they see the Arab Nations around us in turmoil with the corruption and the killing and the murdering and yet they are still against Israel do they hate us that much and now again again we enter into a period of mourning we're going to be talking about this in the show as well as what I want to talk about now kevron the holy city of kevron kevone is one of the four holy cities of Israel and it's the first owned property by the Jewish people when our Father Abraham bought a burial site for his wife our mother Sarah he didn't buy the burial site for Hagar his his the Egyptian wife he bought it for his wife Sarah the mother of the Jewish people and yet the United Nations of the world through UNESCO have banded together to deny historical and biblical fact and have said that there is no Jewish connection to the to this holy city and that it belongs to the Muslims to the Palestinians which there is no Palestinian state so how can it belong to something that doesn't exist so here to tell us more about this we have as our guest D David Wilder now David Wilder is the creator of er.org it's a website that gives out information about cities communities and places in Israel through text photos and videos and other multimedia presentations and after representing the Jewish community of kevone for over two decades David Wilder is now dedicating himself to furthering and advancing knowledge and information about Juda and Samaria and the entire land of Israel so I want to welcome to the show David Wilder Shalom hi great to talk to you it's very very good to have you on so David you are a resident of kevone as well you've been living there for so long you know the city like the back of your hand you know of the Jewish history where is this coming from this un go vote look um this last Shabbat we read the weekly Torah portion about a uh a magician who tried to uh curse us and he couldn't he uh every time he tried to curse us uh he wound up blessing us uh and and and this was of course uh just before we we left the desert and came into the land of Israel and and it seems that the reason why why why should they have cared then uh we're going back now uh 3500 years why did they want to curse us then I mean nothing has changed what happened with UNESCO uh last Friday was the same thing and and I think that the the answer is very simple uh they have a lot of problems with our values our value system our spirituality our desire to make the world a better place for everybody not just for ourselves but for everybody uh uh they had problems with it back in the days of uh uh of of Moses and they still have problems with that today uh and we see that reflected in all of the the resolutions in the United Nations against the state of Israel and of course the the far of saying that uh Kon or the Tomb of the Patriarchs Mar is a Palestinian heritage site uh and then they tacked onto that in danger in other words because we're here it's in danger um and and let's keep in mind that a month ago the uh uh the the the Arab part of KRON elected uh a new Municipal Council and the mayor the newly eled mayor of kevron is a guy named Abus who uh back 37 years ago uh participated in killing six Jews and wounding 20 others on a Friday night outside here where I live in bad Dasa and now after his murder is passed uh he's the mayor of the city uh this is all part of a force you know just one step after another and we've seen this happen uh for years uh we saw it happening uh uh when when the Jews were uh during the the uh uh the expulsion from Spain we saw it with the Inquisition we saw it with the shaah and today we're seeing that being reflected through the United Nations uh Which is far from being united uh it's a whole bunch of Nations it's not United and uh and they have problems the the fact that we exist they don't like the fact that we're able to to bring the world to to higher stages whether be spiritually or through high-tech or through whatever uh they they still don't accept us David I need you if you can to to stay near either your modem or your window where you can get better reception because you're kind of like you're you're a little bit in and out with us here I want to ask you this and maybe you can share the this this information with our listeners we read about the city of kevone in the Bible where our Father Abraham purchased land actually paid money he got the deed to this land and the Arabs didn't even exist at that time Islam didn't exist at that time certainly no Palestinians existed at that time uh and yet the world just totally you know puts on blinders and doesn't look at any of this when did the history of the Arabs that are living there today start in kvon well uh actually um not too long konas had always had uh uh different people that have conquered and occupied this area uh you had uh the the Arabs started here as such not too long after the actual beginning of Islam and they came over in the uh 600s after the death of Muhammad they came over here in the 630s uh and that's when they uh uh decided to try to take the Tomb of the Patriarchs the building on top of the the caves of M themselves that building had been uh built BYOD the great uh for 600 years before Muhammad was born uh but the Arabs came here and they decided they wanted to be a Mosk uh which they they turned it into a mosque it remained that way until the Crusades the Crusaders turned it into a church and then after the Crusaders were expelled they came back and they turned it into a MK again and then they said as they say today that it belongs only to them and we have no rights to be there following the UNESCO resolution uh the Arab leaders here having said only Mim can pray there and we're going to do our best to achieve that and that's what they said also back in the middle of the 1200s when they closed the building off to anybody who is not Muslim and for the next 700 years Jews couldn't pray there they couldn't go inside right and this is their goal again uh but but you're you're 100% correct uh I mentioned to many many many journalists over years fact that the building built by Herod who was a Jewish uh was built 600 years before Muhammad was born uh but that seems to fit into the category of don't let the facts disturb what I want to think right don't let the facts confuse you exactly well we only have another uh two and a half minutes I want you to give us uh our reaction what should how should we react to this blatant uh not looking at history and this blatant lie we have to stand up for what belongs to us instead standing up means that you able to live normally uh in a place like KRON where we haven't been able to build where for the past eight years uh uh the Prime Minister looked over his shoulder to see what was happening at the white house uh as did during the Bush Administration uh today we have to be able to build there are buildings in KRON that have been purchased that we still cannot live in uh we have to be able to grow we have to be able to expand if we really think that this is our city which it is and we have to live that way uh and and we don't have to uh our government doesn't have to stand by be afraid of all of these nations in the United Nations that are going to hate us and vote against us regardless uh and and they should just let us let us continue to live the way we should be living uh take all the restrictions off of the Jewish Community here let the buildings that we own moved into and utilized and let us continue to build and to buy and to live normally like any people uh if we don't stand up for what belongs to us then we can't expect anybody else in the world to say well I guess it's theirs uh if we act according to the way they believe then we're just playing into their hands right well you know what our leaders need to really uh digest that because still our leaders themselves are preventing us from praying on the Temple Mount from expanding uh natural growth in Jude and Samaria there it's they seem to be still afraid of what the world is going to say and uh and we need more Jews who are bold and unafraid and know the truth just like you David Wilder you and our other Jewish people living there you know it's just an atrocity that the Arabs go in in the 1920s and they Massacre the Jews and then throw them out with the British government with the collusion of the British government take over our homes and our land and our property and then they say that it's theirs it's just amazing yeah well this is this is the story of erel and this is what we have to uh to work to to to we have to make progress and and you know the natural population uh you're right they're not let letting us build but the natural population is getting bigger and I see that through my children and my grandchild and all the other grandchildren of all the people that live here they haven't figured out how to stop that yet and that's going to continue and and we're going to continue eventually we're going to build that's right facts David Wilder thank you so much for coming on the show today stay strong and keep uh moving forward Shalom to all of you listeners and to you too bye bye thank you all right when we get back we're going to be speaking about uh some more sad days ahead of us the three weeks I call them the dreaded three weeks are starting we're going to be speaking with a rabbi and you can call him with any comments or questions you have about this time period in Jewish history and on the calendar we'll be right back don't go [Music] anywhere why are so many non-jews interested in Judaism why are they so curious did you know that the prophets of old prophesied about this and it's happening now I'm Rod Bryant the voice of the righteous in the Nations if you want to understand this and much more tune in to Israel News Talk Radio for Beyond The Matrix news views and wisdom for the Nations join us at my new time every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Israel time and 11:00 a.m. eastern standard time here on Israel newww talkradio.com [Applause] [Music] all right we are back here at the Tamar show on Israel news talk radio and we are talking about how the world still hates the Jewish people and why don't we have our act together we know that we don't have our act together because we don't have our Holy Temple and each year each generation that does not Merit to have the Holy Temple it means that we still haven't done a ton we haven't done a fixing we haven't repaired the things that we need to repair so we're going to be speaking now with a rabbi who's going to be talking about the start of this 3-week period that goes into the saddest day of the year on the Jewish calendar which is tshaba we are going to see the 17th of tamuz the fast day of that coming uh on and let me just tell you a little bit about it first the 17th of tamuz Falls this week and it's a day of mourning and fasting for the Jewish people and Wikipedia writes the 17th of tamuz is a Jewish fast day commemorating the breach of the walls of Jerusalem before the destruction of the second temple it falls on the 17th day of the Hebrew month of tamuz and marks the beginning of the 3-week morning period leading up to tshaba AB which is as I said the saddest day of the year on the Jewish calendar when both holy temples were destroyed and other huge tragedy took place as well in history on this day the day also traditionally commemorates the destruction of the two tablets of the Ten Commandments and other historical calamities that befell the Jewish people on the same date so here to tell us more about this subject we have Jon Nest rabi yaron ruen he was born in natana Israel and he today resides in the United States as he dedicates his life spreading the truth and Divinity of the Torah through scientific proofs and many other methods to reach each individual listener to his lectures and videos he gives free lectures Nationwide and you can visit his website at bash.org so want to welcome to the show Rabbi yon Ru shalom shalom nice to be here it's good to have you on so we are seeing now the start of the three weeks and if you can maybe you can give a little bit more detail uh to our listeners about the the three weeks that we're in and the fast day that we're going to be having on uh Tuesday sure so uh tomorrow we're going to have a fast day and uh in essence there's several major things that happened during this time uh both on the 17th of tamuz and obviously on the shab that's coming up on the 17th of t as you mentioned it was the breaching of the uh of the um walls of Y uh but it was also a time where they placed an idol in the bet mikdash it was also a Time where mosenu broke the first set of the Ten Commandments uh and it was also a burning of the seph Tora by apostos uh and uh in general there's an extraordinary amount of horror that has happened in Jewish history during this time only to be superseded and even you know even more so uh in just the next few weeks on shab we've lost uh both of the temples and many many other major tragedies throughout history have happened to the Jewish people so the question I guess that most people are asking is what is a fast really going to do for this like okay it's already destroyed uh the Temple's already destroyed uh the situation is horrible as far as you know our you where we are and where we used to be as far as Holiness is concerned so how is going how is a fast going to really improve the situation now in the Book of Daniel chapter 10:12 the mentions it that Daniel talks to his best friend and who was his best friend the angel Gabriel and uh the angel Gabriel comes to Daniel and he says uh Don't Be Afraid Daniel from the first day that you set your heart uh to understand and fast before your God your petitions were accepted so here the Prophet Daniel is actually explaining to us here or the angel is explaining to Daniel what's the significance of a fast he says as soon as you actually decided to fast the prayers that you had were answered so now first thing we understand is that fast help our prayers but then if we go to the uh Prophet Joel uh and it actually says here that um Hashem is telling us don't Focus don't uh Rend your hearts and not your clothes don't focus on just ripping your clothes and fasting and not eating the whole purpose is for you to Rend your heart for your whole purpose is for you to actually do chuva so here we do we have a contradiction or not so the gar explains that there really isn't a contradiction in essence what Daniel is telling us is that first and foremost when you're fasting it's a time for you to get close to Hashem but the prophet Joel is explaining to us even further that it's not just about the exterior it's not just about the clothes you wear it's not just about the prayers you say it's not just about whether you eat or you don't eat you really care that Hashem do you really think that Hashem cares whether you eat or not the whole key is for you to lower the amount of material intake in order for you to get closer to the spirituality that you need to get to uh in order for you to get closer to Hashem in order for you to do chuva and that's in essence the purpose of all fast and the key is to eventually get to in a level of spirituality where you really are mourning the destruction of the bet mikdash because if we only knew how great it was we really would be mourning 24 hours a day every day of the year right you know I always say how the Arabs bean and cry about their nakba but you know the Jewish people have the biggest knocka the biggest catastrophe and that is that we don't have our Holy Temple and we don't even realize how horrible it is because we never we alive today don't understand never experience what it was like to have it and if we knew if we understood even a a a a a small bit we would be falling on our faces and fasting and trying to do this tun and yet today uh Rabbi we in 1967 we liberated the Temple Mount God gave it to us in our hands and he said here take it it's yours and what did we do we just turned our back on God and handed the keys over to the walk and told them they can still have it this is a a a horrible slap in the face yes I mean that's that's the main thing that we repeat every year uh during tab is the book of The Book of Lamentations and uh in the third chapter of uh the introduction of the Jeremiah tells us that he knows suffering why does he know suffering he knows suffering because he seen it he saw the destruction of the bet mdash he saw the horror he saw the blood he saw the tears he saw his Nation his people getting destroyed annihilated but why why did he see it why did it all happen because we went against our people we get against our God and and we get went against each other even now in the uh Prophet Jeremiah also says in um chapter 4:22 where Hashem actually tells them for my people are stupid they have not recognized me they are foolish children and they are not Discerning they're wise at doing evil but know not how to do good so here Hashem is rebuking us through the Prophet Jeremiah he say he's calling his own people his own children at the same time he's calling us children which obviously means we have a relationship with hem more so than any other Nation while he's calling us children he's calling us stupid why is he calling us stupid he says listen I gave you the bet mikdash the BET mikdash was an opportunity for you to see my miracles in in the open 24 hours a day seven days a week without an end I I just want to jump in here and say that the betam mikdash is the holy temples if you can just translate your terms in English after you say the Hebrew okay sure so so at the same time he's telling us you could see open Miracles 24 hours a day seven days a week to such an extent that even the go even the non-jews would actually benefit from it which is the reason why in sukot this was a holiday where we bring so many different Koba not so many sacrifices in essence this was for each one of the 70 Nations so if it actually says that if the other nations knew the benefit to them that the BET mikdash had they would actually have their own armies to protect it so even more so for the Jews so instead of protecting this the Holiness the sanctity of the BET mikash Hashem is telling us what did you do you did foolish things you did the exact opposite of what I asked you instead of sanctifying it you desecrated it instead of getting closer to me you got further from me instead of using the money that I gave you for good you used it to go against me and that's exactly what's happening again and again Time After Time and this 17th of tamuz is a reminder for us once again that we're still not there yet we're still not fully doing chuva and it's time for us to do it it's time for us to pray to The One and Only God upstairs and our father in Heaven to ask him please please help us get closer to you and this this holiday there two you know a couple of small things everyone could do to at least start the start chuva of course we could all do more of course we could all keep all of the mitv but let's just start with two small things as my recommendation two things that every Jew needs to do is number one you have to be grateful for God for the food that he gives you and for the body that he gives you for the body operating anyone that ever spent any time being sick would know how valuable the body is I spent seven years fight fighting for my life so I know a little bit about the body so one thing I would say is for each Jew to at least pray to Hashem every time you leave the bathroom and than thank hm the blessing of thank hem for your actual having actually having a working body and the second thing is after you finish eating thank Hashem for actually giving you the food it's called the blessing of of of of giving you the uh uh food so these two things are just two small very very tiny things that we can so just repeat that again to be grateful for your blessings and what else to be grateful for the body that you have that's working it's a blessing called a and the Second Blessing is to be grateful for the food that hasm gave you which is called okay two small blessings that every single Jew can do to at least start and start it you know at 17 of tamuz start it every single day from that day on at least show hasem that you know what at the very least I'm grateful right okay let's hold it right there Rabbi do you want to stay on the air with us while we go to a break sure okay and we will take calls as well so stay with us we'll take your calls if you have any questions for the rabbi we are going to be back right after the break don't go hi I'm Rabbi David Aaron the sole Basics are the most profound the most essential and yet often the most neglected in our education join me for Soul Talk on Israel's News Talk Radio and discover the secrets to love spiritual growth and personal power [Music] w [Music] all right we're back here at the tamarrow Y show on Israel news talk radio and we're talking about the three weeks I call them the dreaded three weeks it's a not a good time for the Jewish people uh this is a time where we are mourning fasting remembering that we have still not fixed what we need to fix in our lives in our as a nation as a people and and in observing God's laws and God's Torah we have joining us Rabbi yaron ruen he is an Israeli Rabbi who is living in the United States and he dedicates his life to spreading the truth and and uh about the Divinity of the Torah and he lectures everywhere all over the United States and Israel when he comes here and uh you can visit him at his website at bash.org we will link to that on our page when the show is podcasted so welcome back to the show Rabbi GL to be here okay so we have a caller and I'm going to get our caller around we have joining joining us Chris uh from the occupied territories of Chicago hi Chris what's your question for the rabbi uh hi Tamar yes uh my Rabbi my question is in the previous uh segment on the show earlier we tomarrow was talking about uh the world's hatred for the Jews and and I I'm a gentile and I I've noticed that too it's very mysterious to me uh and I'm wondering you were speaking of the temple and with when a new Temple is built do you think it will have a positive or A negative effect on on on those feelings towards the Jews in Israel I'm just curious to hear you uh address that well than Chris Chris before you hang up uh I just want you to explain why you think it might be a negative effect really briefly no I I I'm asking do you think it would be a positive or A negative I mean I think the negative would probably be some jealous see because nobody else in the world can have that Holy Temple I mean the Koreans could build one but it would be meaningless you know it' be like uh so I I I could see some positives I I can see some negatives I was just wondering what what the rabbi thinks when let's say that's an actual thing now how is that going to affect uh the world opinion for uh Jews in Israel all right Chris thank you so much for your question and again everybody the lines are open if you have a question you can call in Rabbi how would you answer Chris sure well I mean it's two-part question as far part is in regards to uh the hatred of Jews uh and the second part is in regards to what's going to happen when the temple is here so as far as quickly in regards to the hatred of Jews this is actually instilled by Hashem as much as people would like to uh blame something else for it Hashem actually put it instilled into the non-jewish world to hate the Jews now and there's actual there's a law says hat yov the uh and that doesn't necessarily mean that all of the Gentiles hate the Jews it just means that specific types of Gentiles hate the Jews whereas the righteous noahides are not considered part of asav they're they're considered lovers of hasem and they're considered they're called the righteous amongst the Nations or in Hebrew so as far as the reason why hasem instilled hatred on the Jews from the Gentiles is in order to keep us separated because obviously as we see in the world there's a lot of assimilation between the Jews and the non Jews which is against hashem's will uh and uh this is despite the fact that many of them hate us so if there wasn't hate between the Gentiles and the Jews then there would most likely not be any Jews left so that's that hate is unfortunately a necessary thing that's happening and has always happened throughout history as far as what's going to happen once the temple is here that is all going to change because one of the main things that Hashem is going to do when the Messiah comes when he brings the Messiah is that he's going to remove the evil inclination from our own heart he's going to remove the evil from the world itself ultimately not right away but ultimately and once the temple is built there will no longer be any option for anyone to hate the Jews because the Jews will be the Kings the Jews would be the ones that uh you know are running the world it wouldn't be a government anywh there wouldn't be uh the world as we know it would not be the same so the uh the option of jealousy or hatred of the Jews will no longer be an option simply because everyone will want to be uh part of it and that's actually whyem says to the prophets that when the Messiah comes each one of the uh people out of the 70 Nations is going to scream to the Jews now that we know that our fathers have lied to us and that your God is the real God please let us cling to yourit to your uh how do you I guess the the fringes that you have on your four corners let us L to them so and let us you be our rabbis you be our teachers we'll serve you we'll do whatever we need just teach us because we know that our forefathers have have lied to us and your God is the only God and that's why each Jew that wears a seit or one of these fringes that has the Four Corners will have literally 2800 Gentiles as his students as his a uh as the people that are trying to do everything and anything they can to clink to him simply because they know he's got the Tre he's the one that Poss the truth so the um Can Source I've heard that as well I I know that some people go by that some people not so much but what is the source for that as far as what as as far as the the 28 both 2800 people oh it's it's in it's in Ezekiel and also there's something talked about it both in uh Zacharia as well right okay well that's where there's a couple a couple of different places that it talks about with the end of times those two Spa those two prophets Ezekiel and uh Zacharia specifically mention these things and what's going to happen at the end of times uh and uh this is specifically wordss of God it's not commentary it's specific verses in the toah to talk about it okay let's uh we don't have that much time left only like about five minutes or less I want to talk about the tun the answer right now we are going to be fasting tomorrow it is commemorating the when the Romans surrounded Jerusalem they breached the walls uh it was a tragic time for the Jewish people it was a holocaust basically uh people were killed and slaughtered women uh people were starving the the talks about women even eating their babies that they were starving so much it was a horrible time of Bloodshed and genocide and uh and uh with the Romans T taking over the land of Israel throwing the Jews out exiling us and raising the temple burning it down a terrible Holocaust type of period um what is what can we do to fix it you had said that the Jews need to maybe take on two more meets vote two more Commandments uh you suggested that this they say the prayer after going to the bathroom to thank God that our bodily functions are working and that also we should be thankful for the food that we have to say blessings and the after blessings uh after after we eat that we should be more um uh concentrating on on doing these things what about for the non-jews people who are noahides people who love God and want to also see Redemption they also want mankind to live in an era of peace and and see the Redemption well to clarify I don't want anyone to misunderstand and thinking that just because they say the blessing after the bathroom because the blessing after they eat that's it they're fine they're done they still have to keep Shabbat 100% they still have to keep kosher they still have to keep family Purity they have to keep all of the laws in the Torah that are applicable to them those two blessings are just two simple additions to at least get yourself started if you're not keeping anything or even if you keep but you don't have 100% full meaning when you're doing these things okay all Jews are obligated to keep everything now as far as the non-jews the non-jews obviously have to keep the seven Noah Hy laws and all common sense laws and by Common Sense it means like for example one of the seven uh noahide laws is do not murder you don't need the Torah to tell you do not murder but Common Sense will tell you that you have to honor your parents which is not one of the noahide laws in general the main thing that people need to understand is that the prophet Isaiah says to to us in the beginning of of the of the book of Isaiah it says that you know he calls the Jews a sinful Nation it's a very very heavy rebuke it starts in chapter 1 verse4 until verse 9 very very heavy heavy duty rebuke if he was a lecturer today they throw him out of the synagogue okay but then on on on Verse 18 just a few verses later he says something very simple he says come let's reason together says Hashem meaning Hashem is telling us if your sins are like Scarlet they'll become white as snow it always is possible to do chuva all we have to do first and foremost is stop sinning stop sinning simple as a again just if you're driving on Shabbat stop driving on shabat if you're not eating kosher stop eating on kosher the first thing to do is stop sinning after that you can start accumulating mitv so that's really the T that's the real tun that's the real uh you know way to fix the world is start stop sinning and then start doing positive things right and I think if everyone starts taking on something that they'll stop doing that's wrong that's against God and something else that's positive that already shows AEM that we're trying and once a father sees that a son is trying he's going to push him and give him that extra push to do the rest but at least we got to show them we're serious that's both for the Jews and for the non-jews the fast by itself is not enough we need to show him who's serious beyond the fast beyond that one day right the fast is only to get us into the mood and to to understand the the tremendous loss Rabbi I want to thank you so much for coming on the show and sharing your thoughts with us I know that the listeners really enjoyed hearing from you and people can go to your website at bam.org we will link to that on our website where this show is podcasted thank you Rabbi and may we next year be celebrating on the 17th of tamuz and not fasting also on tshav as well it should be a happy occasion for all of the world amen amen all right thank you all right and uh I want to wish all of you a an easy fast so you can concentrate on what we you need to concentrate on what we need to concentrate on as well and remember I think that it all comes down to fearing God in a in a good way in a positive way to say you know what my Creator loves me he gave me these rules he gave me a guide book to live by why am I not adhering to it as much as I can and if we are more afraid of God if we have the fear of God than we are of governments or of being popular of losing our power or our job or whatever else it is in this world that we're afraid of and we are more afraid of God we'll do the right thing we will do the right thing and we will Merit to see the Redemption where all of mankind can live in peace and goodness because we do
