it's starting that was nice okay I'll do it again okay and we'll fake all the engagements who wishes that they were at work today all right so we just had a tremendously uplifting Shabbos tremendously uplifting Chavez I had a tremendous day of lifting Shabbos very powerful and I come from Israel and on Sunday is what's known as the Sunday blues because in Israel we don't have Bachmann Sunday all right so and then have a wonderful shop it's very inspirational and then we just have to go back to work now also I'll tell you another phenomena that happens in Israel those of you that live over here probably can't appreciate this is that I know in America three-day yontiff you guys love food a young TIFF yeah okay usually I know when I grew up when I'm from New York Lee through the ends of was like I know like you know they look at the calendar already a year ahead to see when three the young tip is gonna fall out you know in plans for it especially if it ruins calamari but in Israel we have like we have like Yom Tufts together it's a really really wonderful thing it's because we're not used to having this type of vacation now what we're going to talk about today is we're going to talk about that moment okay what's that moment that moment is when you're on your way to work not going to be Sunday Monday maybe you drive maybe you take a train how do you feel at that moment where you're going to work you're excited thrilled are you happy are you nervous and the truth is no so I mentioned before stress the stress is something which is rampant we forgot the exact dollar account but there's billions of dollars that are being you know being expended and they're costing the economy because of stress-related things that are happening at work and when I run these workshops with different groups I'm not going to do it over here but I do something the word association and the word association is just to kind of get an idea of what people are internally relating right to work right and for a lot of people when they hear work they think of stress but what we're here about to talk about today right as to how we're going to be able to transform our work experience because whether or not you know we wish we were going to work or not which we're going to work the reality is is that most of us do work now and we spend many many hours at work and we have a choice and either our work is going to be something which is disconnected from where we want to be who we are the goals that we have in life all right and potentially stressful Oh to what happens to many of us what work is something that's going to become empowering work something which is going to be fulfilling and there's the topic of today's talk of uncovering the riskiest in our jobs is that work is something which has the ability and which was always meant to be something to inspire us to have a project inspire at work convention that's really what work is about so I just want to introduce myself for a couple of minutes I mentioned know I come from stand out in New York I now live in Israel and after I got married I learnt in Colo and at a certain point that I went out to work and I found myself in a situation that maybe you guys you know could relate to or not relate to I was in a particular job and I was spending many hours at this job and I was just feeling very very frustrated just like I felt like you know Here I am I know what I want to be doing right I know what I'm passionate about no particularly in my case I was somebody who was learning in kollel ice mica right now this is something which many many people struggle with and a lot of my clients that I'm working with are people that know were learning in kollel you know we're working in certain positions and now they find them out in the work world right oh it's really anyone that goes to a inspirational Shabbos my Shabbos is great we were able to learn you able to spend time with family and I found myself sitting there at work just feeling very very deflated very very empty and I thought to myself there must be more and is this really what Hashem wants like me all right is this really what Hashem had in mind you know work we know is there in the program you know it seems that many of us are doing it how could it be that this is really what was intended that Hashem really wanted for us so I started an exploration I've worked in numerous positions at that time I was working in Israel for America and I was working for a college I was working for a college at that point right when I had this experience but I I was involved in recruiting I was doing a few different things I was involved in recruiting I was doing some marketing and I was also doing some advising and but I seen from working with clients really hundreds you know and it's an international problem it's not just that it's not a Jewish thing and it's not like a Jewish thing for Jews that live in America and I work with people from France people from Russia people from England from all over Europe it's something that we all suffer with and I started a journey right and thankful to one of them a couple of my mentors mainly rubbish workersí from the Pilsner Institute who really guided me on this path of really discovering what is work meant to look like and I moved you mentioned before I was working in different roles in marketing and recruiting I eventually transitioned over into working as a career consultant now I did a training and currently now I work as a career consultant working with people of all different ages from teens to young professionals to adults right we're looking to get that direction and how they can be successful and how they can live a fulfilled professional life at the same time back in the background there's a mcaren and so on this background ofyou know I've also been working running workshops in the outreach space helping people that are not yet for him to be able to realize that it's not a contradiction to build what's called the American dream right which is to build a successful career right to be happy in your career and to be Jewish right because that's another thing I've seen from a lot of my workshops whenever I do an association about Jewish values and people say you know what would you think Jewish values Jewish values are Jewish values are what comes natural you have to allow use beautiful okay Jewish values Jewish values all right and that's generally what I hear sometimes near some other things like latkes chicken soup javis honesty right but I never heard I see Jewish values they say career success hasn't happen because most people don't think that has anything to do with each other right there's Judaism and then this career success and either they have nothing to do with each other or they're competing with each other right and subconsciously what that creates for an unaffiliated person is to think that I'm going to become more Jewish we're going to become more observant that's gonna come at the cost of me being professionally successful and for a full person what it means is is that I can go to the base mattress and I can learn and I can develop myself as a person and then there's my job a job something that I have to do right it's something that I'm forced to do is something I need to make money right maybe I enjoy my job maybe I make good money maybe I don't make good money different levels of stress but they're not connected so I have this moment myself right and from that point I've become very involved in empowering so far hundreds and with different partnerships that I've been working with to be thousands of people to transform the way that they look at their job so I mentioned before about that with work it's a lot more than just our paycheck all right we just spoke about right now right that work is the Covenant is a bris between Hashem and mankind and when we're involved in work that is what's called selim elohim nothing less nothing less than selling Elohim when it's done in the right way the third run was what's called personalization because what I found to be incredibly fascinating and inspiring as a career counsellor is is that all of the career counseling Theory that's founded you know in their early nineteen hundred's it's really just based on our own profits so and then realize that those things that were naturally attracted to right this is something that when I work on with people individually this is part of the process one of those things that just you probably find yourself getting into flow state right flow state is you just kind of start working and you're just involved with that you lose track of time this is something that you really just naturally comes to you the combination of passion and talent is what the focus of other says then gives us guidance into what we're meant to work with but it really it goes before the Clovis above us with today right are a few tools on how will we just discuss and empower yourself is an incredible tool to be able to empower other Jews so the first one is called the unspoken language what's the unspoken language so there's a certain unspoken language humanistic global right Universal that speaks to people what is it it's called living for a higher cost it's just something that speaks to the human spirit not just Jewish some things people find inspirational on some level some level some level think that the P Mia stuff like like what people come so inspired a bit about sports teams because here you have people join together as a team it's not about them is about the team it's about the city it's about bringing pride all right something greater than self but a lot deeper than sports teams right everyone has a deep founding respect for a soldier I for a hero what's a hero why is this like hero somebody that what the he does something greater than himself right it's something which inspires by just the and there are tremendous issues today in the workplace you guys looked it up it's a terminology called engagement or dis engagement okay only three out of ten Americans are actually happy at work one of 110 Americans right let me just tell you what that means so seven out of ten Americans go to work every day waiting for their coffee break wasting their time on their email looking forward for vacation you know there's a huge plague of what's called absenteeism the people are just taking off playing hooky you know like from school costing the economy tremendous amounts of money one editin American is actively disengaged at work which means that they're actively trying to sabotage their punch their company okay those seven out of ten American ploys are not recommending the services of their company there's a tremendous amount of growing dissatisfaction in the workplace and something we've spoken about before stress if you guys mean I can pull out some of the stats afterwards you know to show you the amounts of people crazy and other things that are happening at work from work stress and then we have you so we're all familiar growing up with this thing called Kadesh we're told to do it right be a conditioned chef what does that mean what does it mean to be a kid is a sham at work so let's talk about about Phil - then what does Hillel because they are charged they see their job as something which is greater than themselves they see their job as an expression of their role towards mankind that is something which people will pick up across this message he called it's called start with Y right and he talks about what's called to the Golden Circle right where you have a circle with three three run all right you can imagine and you have on the outer circle it's called what the inner like the middle circle you have you have how and the inner circle is why and he talks about the difference between successful companies successful people successful influencers and he says that the way that most people work when they're trying to sell the product or they trying to get someone to do something what are they talking about they talk about what they do like this is what I'm selling this is what I want you to do then you have people and talk about the how this is how it works this is how I'm going to do it but what's on the inner core is the why the why is what is it all about what is the deep motivation about why your company exists what are you trying to bring out into the world it talks about Apple success instead of talking about the product that they sell they spoke about their Y which is about innovating change and he goes on to explain anything from a physiological and you know biological perspective on how when a person speaks from their Y that connects with other people that will get people to change because it's coming from within it's coming inside outward it's not something on outside in and therefore when you go to work and you work with this paradigm and you're someone who's working from there Y with clarity on what works about what my passions are how my work is expressing those passions out in the world people are going to see that what's that going to mean for a non from Jill so what it's gonna mean for a nod from jewel right like we spoke about before it's the able to tell you wow like you've got something he's got something nice all my co-workers like they hate what they're doing they're miserable there's stress and here's this guy's mama's like a hero obviously to be people realize that they key connects with being Jewish and what it means to be a Jew through their job and that's tremendous because the reality is is is that each one of us spent so many hours at work but in this not yet from yen I spent so many hours at work if you're able to empower him to find the connection that he stops looking at his job is just into the rat race and he realizes that his job is part of his unique expression of being a Jew and bringing out God's light in the world in making it a better place you were giving him the tools to connect with his Judaism all day long and that's something that we just heard before will spiritually help him to be able to expand and to be able to have that consciousness of judy's so the second thing is to empower and how does that happen it can happen with this simple conversation if you see someone at your work who looks like they're not happy they're going through a hard time you're stressed you open a conversation with them when the guys that might be in my job I'm happy with the boss right and to be able to discuss with them and have them have them realized right I'm saying haven't realized you know something I struggle with a lot too now I also struggle up you know it gives me the ability to overcome is that I try to think about every day this is a Jewish concept is that my job is a lot more than just a paycheck so even if I'm not making as much money as I want right now I realize I'm doing something really great it's part of my unique mission to make the world a better place Wow you can empower them just like that and the third thing is to be able to try to transform a person's life and what we're going to do over here do a little exercise for yourself just to be able to experience what that means to be transformed this is something I do that with my clients but if you develop a relationship with them and able to open up a dialog we're able to kind of understand them a bit more are you having a hard time at work they're stressed they don't like their position they're not happy with what they're doing right they're trying to get out to be able to have a couple of tools to be able to help them to transform their day in a very powerful way so let's take a look over here okay can I ask you a favor say my battery's low just in time first of all it's not that Thanks just get out accord so if you remember what we spoke about right we spoke about the focus of of us we spoke about the Gemara and Broncos we spoke about values and we spoke about talents so when you have over here that's right okay we know well okay these are these are these are what I call the core values exercise okay I'm not sure if you guys can see it but okay these are all great values okay all of them are acting on argue really positive thing and what I do with clients introduce for yourself you know I'm saying I no longer in a different workshop I'll have people do it but no we have shorter time right now if you have other thing for yourself he was identified within these positive values what are the top five let's speak to you okay all these things are positive actualization creativity leadership education entrepreneurship balance friendship fulfillments and I'll give you guys a couple of minutes okay just to take a look you know in around I'll scroll it down a little bit just to be able to see the other ones and try to go through yourself mentally okay and and if you haven't had done this it's very very very important just to be able to hone in on what is it that really gets you your juices flowing and what are those top five values for you that are most important okay so I'll give you guys a minute or two can you guys see the screen no you can't okay that's alright that's right we were fine so what we'll do is like this so this is exercise okay I'm happy if you guys I'm happy to email it to you and afterwards as well we can be in touch and exercise to have these values and to go through and identify one of the facts and what I think remaining we running this with with many many many many people is is that although they're all great and wonderful people are different and therefore for some people their top five values might be creativity empowerment transformation originality and then you have other people that for them their top five values are things like achievement entrepreneurship then you have other people who their top values are things like balance structure persistence other people's values are well competition and really when you do this exercise and if you have a discussion with someone and the way the conversation will look like is like this it's like look I understand they're having a hard time at work let me share with you something that I've done alright what is it that you really want to do I want to do we really want it okay I want to be this I want to be that because those are all symptoms try to be able to understand what is it really the person's passionate about doing I mean once you're able to clarify what those five values are for you then when we're able to do is to move over into move into out okay I see I don't have it over here but I'll share with you also as well it's the model there are many different models of career personality but one of the one of the most popular models that's used right is John Holland's model that talks about six different types of corpus career personality types and the way that he breaks it down like this and think for yourself when I say this over which are the ones that are you would say the highest ones for you okay what the first personality type is what's called investigative personality type investigative personality type is someone who loves problem-solving for them working with data and information you know trying to crunch whether it's numbers or an equation or a problem to be able to understand what's under it and figure it out they love that okay that's investigative right the second was it's called artistic the artistic personality is someone who for them creativity originality flow out of the box like that's what they love doing the third one's called social the social personality is someone who just loves either helping people or benefiting society right for them they just need to be involved in that that's what really really gets them going the four that was called enterprising the enterprising personality is someone who for them they love to be in charge generally they don't like listening to rules they need to be the boss they're highly highly competitive for them winning achievement risk-taking these are things that get them going and they need it in order to be happy the the next one is conventional the conventional personality is all about structure and making systems for them organizing information making things you know logistics going over and over and over again they don't need to have creativity that it needs to be enterprising for them they get a keyless they get a fuse out of the process of making things efficient and then there's a realistic personality the realistic personality feels most comfortable in the physical world for them working with informations hard working with people not so much their thing give them something to touch to be a camera it could be a car right it could be a equipment right it could be their bodies in the gym they feel very very comfortable in the physical world you guys got it do you know for yourself is anyone from here realize one or two that are stronger than the others for yourselves yeah okay normally I'll share but because of the time you won't now what we want to do to make sure that a person is engaged in their work finds fulfillment in their work is when you're able to align those passions those five and see where that expresses itself in your career personality and then you look at your work day you say how much of my work day am i involved in those tests if somebody is highly artistic creative and enterprising and they need to be like like like competitive and they're spending most of their day just organizing information and dealing with investigative stuff they are going to be miserable alright if somebody is highly investigative that needs to use their head and they get put into this situation where they just need to just kind of be more just like organizing time they're going to be miserable if somebody is highly social and they want to be able to create benefits in society and they get put into a sales position where the bottom line is about making money and about winning they're not going to be happy so my understanding this model and seeing where our passions fall down into our career personality and making sure that our work is aligned at least with one of them or two of them that is the key to being just arriving in your work and what we can do when we sitting down with somebody is to try to be able to explore with them how they can try to implement that into their work I'll close with one story and how one of my mentors did this with someone in a very creative way so it can empower you to do so someone that he was mentoring the caseta shahid who was working as a parking attendant in Shea Stadium he was very very none happy all day sitting around no park their parks their parks there and he was miserable so he's speaking to this mentor of mine and to discuss thing what he's passionate about they realize that he is a highly creative artistic out-of-the-box funny type of guy and he was miserable too sitting in this conventional boring job so sometimes the solution is switched jobs but not always couldn't switch jobs you know so maybe you're talking to someone you could help him consider maybe he wants to switch jobs but listen to this he sets in listen you're a funny guy maybe you can try to just do some funny stuff in your job like you like what's stopping you maybe go to work every day wear a funny hat you know they're having a good time I don't know my boss he said why do you ask him once asked his boss you don't elicit this will go gets me going do you Boston as long as he gets it apart I don't care no what happened started going to work every day funny hats you know being goofy where after a while he was making more money from his tips than he was in his salary and he was happy again just one idea of how we can be creative and sometimes it means talking to our boss and being honest them if they lifted I can do this but this is where my strength is when we're able to empower ourselves and we're able to understand this we're able to empower others start a dialogue with Jews who are not yet firm and to help them realize that yes being Jewish being from not a contradiction to finding fulfillment and success in your job but rather that is we get excited about thank you very much there's a pleasure to to me with all of you if you guys
