Rabbi Shimon Zev Meisels at Bayit Lepleitos Dinner Part 3 The year was 1945. Jews from all over Europe were streaming to their home-land, Eretz Yisroel, desperately searching for peace and tranquility. The tragic Holocaust left thousands of orphans wandering the streets of Jerusalem, with no family and no home. Of particular concern were the young girls who truly needed the framework of a home. Boys were able to find shelter and friendship in the hallowed halls of Yeshivos and Synagogues, but where were the girls to turn? In 1949, Rabbi Naftali Rosenfeld Shlita, a reputable Munkatcher Talmid and Holocaust survivor, pioneered a new venture and opened Bayit Lepleitot, giving these lost children a home. Bayit Lepleitot began by housing 24 girls in Rabbi Rosenfelds very own home. As the number of girls increased, they were relocated to a nearby basement, the first official location of Bayit Lepleitot. Today, we have over 600 girls under our care, ranging from infants to mature young adults, providing for all of their basic daily needs: food, clothing, and a place to sleep. But Bayit Lepleitot gives these girls much more than just a home. We give them a family. Each child is the recipient of daily torrents of love and affection from our warm, caring staff. We provide them with an education, home management skills, summer camps, assistance with shidduchim, and arrange all aspects of the actual wedding and the setup of the apartment. We even have our very own Kimpeturim Heim to provide these motherless girls with support when they receive the wonderful blessing of a child of their very own. At Bayit Lepleitot, we focus on giving our girls all the building blocks they need to create their very own home. Our goal is to ensure that each and every one of our girls, in spite of their tragic, painful past, has a bright, happy, and fulfilling future.
