Rabbi Paysach Krohn - Curb The Hate

[Music] it evening everyone and thank you for coming tonight it's a today's event I know it's cold outside as many other stuff going on but you made it your business to be able to hear tonight you know the Jewish community in around the world has been an uprising after Semitism recently in Jersey City in Rockland County individuals was almost killed he's in critical condition and he must get up as a Jewish nation to show that we are not going to accept that the Semitism not only the Jewish nation anywhere in the world we must stand up for it you know we went through the Holocaust and when I can go through that it gots a bit again so tonight we all gathered tonight over here to hear words of inspiration for every Pesach Roma will give us inspiration how we can move on I guess despite all and the something that's going on we have over your elected officials council member Bruce brakeman Assemblywoman Missy Miller that shame in the Republican Party mr. Cairo from Nassau County and of course all other people are here tonight and I'm gonna introduce I guess councilmember Blake won't say a few words and then I'll be followed by mrs. Miller thank you again thank you very much Shia it is an honor to be with you tonight as we all know throughout the world there's been a rise in anti-semitism and it's something that we're not going to stand for here on Long Island we know that there has been attacks in Pittsburgh Jersey City Boro Park Manhattan and recently we had an altercation right here in the five towns at Costco where a man with a yarmulke with his family was shopping at Costco just about a month ago when this lunatic with all tattoos on and talking like a crazy person said he was going to slap the yarmulke off of this guy's head started talking about how Hitler should have finished the job and basically was harassing and threatening this man this was a man of great courage his name was a roommate Friedman and he's from Cedarhurst and he stood up to it would mer okay and he videotaped the whole thing so the police had evidence and we met with the police commissioner Pat Ryder who does a great job here in Nassau County and they apprehended the man they arrested him and now he will go before a judge so there is no room for anti-semitism here as I said we're not going to go quietly we're not going to just take it we're going to fight so it never happens again because tomorrow is the anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camps so we should always remember we should never forgive and we should never forget with that I want to mention that we're traveling tonight with the chairman of the Republican Party in Nassau County who's incredibly supportive this community Joe Cairo if you could give him a nice hand chairman Tyler thank you for coming and at this time I would like you to goose to you someone who is a fabulous legislator she's dynamic she takes charge on a variety of issues but she's very very very very in tune to health care issues that are very important especially to you who are residents here in a health care facility let's have a warm welcome for Assemblywoman Melissa Missy Miller thank you I'm so happy to see so many faces here this evening this is such a you know significant subject it's we cannot tolerate this kind of hate and this recent uptick of these crimes and these attacks we just can't stand for it in a state we are trying very very hard actively to get more funding for security for education i've myself introduced a bill that would put hate crimes back on the qualifying list of offenses that would require bail so that we stamp out this hate this is a community our community is so diverse yet we all coexist so wonderfully we don't have room for this here and we're not going to tolerate it so I really appreciate this this meeting tonight I think it's very very informative and very important and I'm glad that everybody's here to see it thank speak in a synagogue in a shul and somebody drove me to the show I could not believe it they were cement barriers right around the whole show and they were police outside the shul I had never seen that before certainly not in America and then a few weeks later I was in San Paolo Brazil and in San Paolo you would not believe you cannot walk into a shul the way we walked in here tonight do you know some Paulo Brazil when you walk into the door of a shul you're in a little cubicle door locks behind you and there's a door that's locked in front of you and the security guards have to check you out and make sure that you're not a terrorist and then you could walk into the shore and then I came to England and every school that I went to in England was behind the big gate and there were guards at every doorway and then this past week I just got back from South Africa and I've been there many many times I love the people in South Africa they're the most wonderful people with the greatest accent in the world but every house and every show was behind barbed wire or a huge fence and every time that I went to these places England San Paolo Antwerp and South Africa I felt broken in my country and our country there's no such thing we can go to every show there's no barbed wire there's no police who would ever believe that we might come to that in a country that I love so much now my mother was born in Philadelphia and you know the home of Benjamin Franklin the Liberty Bell Declaration of Independence and she taught me a great pride in America now I know you're not gonna believe this but nobody can deny it because I was there I went to tour with us and in the second grade mrs. Bromberg taught us America the Beautiful and if I'm in a foreign country and I hear the national anthem I stop crying now I told that to my wife she says well you cry for anything but it's not true it's not true I get very emotional when I hear the national anthem and I'm not gonna sing America the Beautiful but I could sing it believe me and mrs. Bromberg world all the words on the board and all the kids sang it you know we knew that so there was a great pride in our country and what I always felt was my country and then all of a sudden we begin to realize you know something maybe it's not exactly our country it's not exactly my country it's a country that we share with many many people and till now many of them have admired us and tolerated us but now all of a sudden we hear the terrible things that went on in Pittsburgh and then on Pesach in Poway and Jersey City and Muncie and what's going on how could this be happening what is going on how does an elephant respond to all of this now I'll tell you something very interesting you know I used to think that if joe lieberman who is such a wonderful wonderful person I had this horse to do his grandson and why you his grandson alone was in Nicolo and why you so this person was almost vice president could you imagine I'll tell you a great story you know he's from Bridgeport so I remember one morning I had a bris of rabbi Epstein shul and I was told that there's gonna be a special person nobody told me who's gonna be there but I've got to be on time there could be no
