welcome everybody getting closer to
pesach today was the first day of the
wonderful happy holy
day of the month of nissan
the uh
month of miracles nissan open miracles
connecting adore
last month
to the
first month
adore the
month of hidden miracles
with a month of open miracles
so we're really into miracles
for these two months
getting ready for the great holiday
pesach
probably some people tonight are getting
ready cleaning taking care they couldn't
make it
so let's start with some of the laws of
pesach
the night before
pesach
we have to search for comets in the
house
that means first out of passive is
monday night
sunday night unless we go out of town
if we're staying home
sunday night before pesach
we do the search
for comets throughout the house
because we have to get rid of all of our
comets
not a lot of owned comets never mind eat
it we can't own it we can't derive any
pleasure from it
comets is totally taboo during pesach
can't even have it around
can even own it if we own hummus as we
sell it
to the non-jew
because we can't even own
some pressure
so the night before after cleaning up
the house and seeing that there's
nothing around muhammad
we have to make a special check
and
right away at the beginning of the night
we search
take a candle
of course you could take a flashlight
today also
because it's traditional to use a candle
and it's supposed to be a single wick on
that candle abdullah by
shabbos knight we make a very very h on
the candle that's a multiple wicks we
use because one with a nice big flame
to make it rakha on
but the night of pesach when we search
for the muhammads
we use a single candle
because if it's going to be too big
we'll be afraid to get close to any of
the furniture or the walls or anything
we're afraid to make a fire
and we want to make sure to search
all the
nooks and crannies and cracks
to see if any combats or any crumbs are
around
so we don't want too big of a candle be
afraid to get too close
and we go around the house
searching
with this candle
the tradition is to take a feather too
because the feather represents like a
brush
to be able to brush into the
spoon that we have also wooden spoon is
also traditional
and the reason for that is
that the next day we burn the muhammads
in case we can't find any comments to
burn we burn the stick at least to
remember that there's a mitzvah to burn
comets we should forget about the
burning of the comets
so these are the three traditional
things they a a light a candle
a feather and a wooden spoon
i'm sure i'll remember it from your
father and grandfather going around the
house the night before
searching for the
comets because all the children
everybody gathers around and they all
take part and help
going from room to room
going searching on the floors on the
tables
under the chairs
all around the house to see is there any
comments that we overlooked
before peso we've got to get it together
and put it in one place
also
we have to remember sometimes we have
young children around and they can take
comments who knows where
and
we have to check all those who knows
where
if we
have the
uh suspicion that maybe the kids put
comets in places that we don't want to
be on pesa
because you never know
i know one family and one of my
neighbors
had young children and a whole year they
loved cheerios so what they did is they
put the cheetos into the air conditioner
it was pushed in it
and that was a hot place that they put
on the air conditioner
all the cheers came well over on peso
give us real comets sure the real comets
so you really never know
but uh
you try your best anyway to see
all the places that you shouldn't be on
the hummus
of course my wife tells me she's a
little girl she used to take it her
mother gave her sandwiches to take to
school she didn't like to eat at all so
she stuff it in her mother's shoes
and the wedding shoes then they came
with pesach and she took out their shoes
to put on them she couldn't put her
footage
she pulled a green piece of comments i
mean from moldy comets from before so
you never know what kids do you know
what they're up to so we have to try to
think
what are the possibilities
to check all around
before we start checking we make a
special bracha
that we make before any mitzvah that we
do
before we sit in the sukkah we say raqqa
before we eat mata make the broccoli
before we put on filling make a broccoli
before
checking and performing the mitzvah of
searching muhammad we make it
and
we
search
until we finish searching the old rooms
of the house
then we say
the words of kolkamira
saying that any comets which i happen
not to find
should be null and void
nothing to do with me
i totally relinquish my
biles my
possession over any comments that i have
anybody who wants it can take it it's
not mine anymore
because we're not allowed to own
comments so therefore we say
the night before pesach there any
comments that i have that i did not see
it someone said i see i'm still eating
from until tomorrow
any comments that i did not see i didn't
notice while researching should be null
and void it's like dust of the earth i
don't want it anymore it's nothing to do
with me anymore anybody wants to come
and take it it's theirs
the comments that we find and put away
overnight should be in the place where
children shouldn't get a hold of it and
start spreading around the house again
they have to tie it up
and put it in a place that nobody can
get to
and the next day
we
fulfill the mitzvah of burning muhammads
beer comets
that if you notice and you live in a
jewish neighborhood you'll see the next
day
this will be
monday
a lot of little fires outside people
burning their comets
and that's what mitzvah to do
at the last goodbye to the muhammad
we eat
our last meal
in the morning
maybe next week all the exact times when
we have to stop eating vomits
and with the next hour we burn the
hummus that we found the night before
and that's the end of hamilton after
pesa
so we have the mitzvah of searching the
night before in the midst of burning the
day after the morning after
and then again we say the same words
except this time we say all comets that
we might have not noticed
should be null and void it's not mine
anymore
it's considered like
it's out of my possession
and i don't want it because comets is a
special law you're not a lot of hummus
other things we're not allowed to eat
you're allowed to own
somebody owns a uh
he
owns a piece of meat that's not kosher
you lot own meat that's not kosher no
not eat it you should allow to own it
comets you can't even own you can't have
any pleasure from you can own it it's
out of our lives
if somebody is going out of town
for pesach
and they'll not be home
at the night before pesach that we're
talking about now
then they're able to make this
particular search
the night before they leave town
to leaving town let's say the thursday
before passage
during the day so wednesday night they
have to search they're leaving thursday
first friday so they have to search the
thursday night the night before we go
out of town we have to make the search
we don't make a bracket only the night
of pesach before passive itself with the
broadcast but the searching we must
fulfill that mitzvah because even though
we're not there in the house
but we're not going to own any comments
it might be a thousand miles away
so
still we can't own it it can't be in our
possession so we have to search for it
and get rid of it
if after all that the person found the
comments of isa like you said all of a
sudden you put another air conditioner
and blows out materials whatever might
have happened what do you do
well you get rid of it as soon as
possible
you can burn it flush down the toilet
you've got to get rid of it and not keep
it around
if it's a yum tip itself
then it's a problem because the object
comes says
confidence is something not allowed to
even move
on anyone
to touch we have to put on top of it a
vessel
make sure
that it's out of our sight we don't want
to make sure not not to come to eat it
so we put on top of it a a glass
or a a some type of vessel to uh
show
that this is off limits and as soon as
we make them dollar after pressure then
we gotta get rid of it
okay
now
we're coming back to
our
topic
that we've discussed the last few weeks
of wicked people
even
when they are the gates of hell they
don't do chuva sometimes
that's the name of it part three
and we talked about
different ways and means
for a person
to be motivated to do juva
we spoke about two of them so far
one is
a person suffering pain
which
is
a messenger of god to a person
to wake up and to truthful change our
ways something must be wrong
god's giving me pain it must be
something i have to think about have to
rectify in my life
as the person starts gets gets older
time's going on versus also supposed to
think about
what
can i do to make sure
when i meet my creator that will be a
pleasurable experience
and we're holding by number three but i
just wanted to say
over
a
story or two to bring out the point what
we're talking about these two things we
we discussed
there's a uh
story with the
rabbi
called the balloon
he's a very outstanding person he went
through the holocaust but he made it to
this world to this country i should say
and he was uh
getting on in years
and he had one of his
followers who came to him was also
getting on in years
and he kept coming to him and
complaining to him
he's getting old
he can't see as good as he used to see
come back again next week he can't
choose because he's able to chew
and come back again they can't walk to
where i used to walk is this pain is
that pain
i was complaining
so rabbit told me that i'm also getting
old
but i'll tell you the way i look at
story of a person
who
was living
in a house
for many years
and he
paid rent
monthly
after many years this person was getting
older
and he wasn't able to work anymore
and he couldn't pay his rent
and he was staying in the house
and the landlord calls him up towards
the rent is i can't pay the rent time
back
i'm not i'm not capable of making a
living anymore i can't pay rent he says
okay
you can't pay you can't pay with
somebody years
you paid your rent i don't care just
stay in the house
so next week he calls up the landlord
and says you know
that light in the kitchen
is flickering it's not a very good light
you know it's so good
it's not so comfortable like it used to
be
they calls them next week again
you know that window is so drafty
i get cold i stand next to it you know i
wish you could do something about it
because up the next week again
complaining about the
floor in the bedroom it's a little worn
out
and doesn't look so nice anymore
so lando said to him like this he says
listen
you're living in the house you're living
for nothing i'm not charging you
you have little problems with it
and you really are not happy
you're welcome to move out you know i
don't have to say this
the things you're complaining about okay
and it runs complaints but you're not
paying any rent and living for nothing
i think she'll be pretty happy
and not complain too much because
you have to realize that you're living
on
free time
you want me to come and put money into
it yet you're living for nothing
so he can overlook the flicking of the
light he can overlook
draft from the window
so ever tell him like this same thing he
said
i'm
almost in my 90s and you're almost in
your 90s
you're complaining you can't see as good
you can't true is good i also feel that
way so how does god look at it
god says listen you people become who we
are most people don't live to the 80s
and 90s
you're living their free time you want
to complain
you can't see as good you can choose
good
so you'd rather
i should take the life away from you
okay
if you're complaining something that's
no good you don't like it
it's okay
god said why complain
to living on god's giving us extra time
to live
everything's not exactly the way it
should be
it's not as convenient but be happy
you're alive
don't complain so much
you played so much god says complain you
don't want to live so long okay
so this i thought about when we were
discussing the old age we were talked
about
brings a person to dukchuva
that
we have to be happy
the longer we live
i know some people will say
i said how are you doing oh i'm getting
old boy not everybody can say that i
said to the guy not everybody can say
i'm getting old that's a wonderful thing
because some people say in such a way
they're complaining i'm getting old
most people love to say they're getting
old
now everybody can say it some people
don't get old
so it's a it's a gift from god to get
old and something we should appreciate
now that was the story about the old age
i was thinking about this thing over
then i had the other story about the
suffering pain i don't know if i said
the story over i
said over different occasions i'm not
sure if i said over here but
with the
story about the person who's
who was uh
not getting heat from this i was
landlord i said that story recently
there's a interesting story that sign
brings out
that
a person who had this landlord was going
on vacation
and he gave over the house to somebody
else to take care of the house
there's a winter time
and the person taking over the house
was very
neglectful
and he didn't take care of the heat
it came october was a cold month
and uh
he's
he
met his friend
after
six months the linwood went away for six
months
after six months the first living in the
house
met his friend and was crying
so what are you crying about
he said the story what happened to him
the lord led one away
and
october was a freezing cold month it
wouldn't give us any heat almost
november was freezing cold
december january and we're begging him
and he didn't give us finally
february march finally he gave us he
told them to freeze it
so landlord came back after six months
and had to go
he says terrible if you're a man you put
in charge for four months we were
freezing cold
so i said really i feel terrible
you know what i'm going to do
every month
i'm giving you two thousand dollars cash
i feel so bad
so
october november december january here's
eight thousand dollars cash
to make up for that but you had to
suffer
so why are you crying about then
he said he gave his heat the other two
months that's why i'm crying
i'm kind because he gave his heat the
other two months
i wish he wouldn't give me eight other
months either i would get another four
thousand dollars
right
that's what i'm trying i'm trying
because he gave a seat the other two
months
so we see
that sometimes
people can suffer
and they're happy about suffering
because of what they will be able to
gain
if it would have been called another two
months that would have been the four
thousand dollars richer
we don't
appreciate when god gives us pain and
suffering we have to have the right idea
of what it's all about
because in the future
in the world to come
we'll be able to appreciate
that what god gives us even though it's
hard to go through
suffering
but in the long run we'll look back and
say wow it was really worth it i wish he
had more pain look how much
pleasure that god's giving us for the
pain that we suffered in this world
so i thought these two stories
appropriately for the first two
motivating factors
for a person to do chufa
now
we come to
number one on the glossary sheet
yishma
in musa great
book shari chuva
the number three motivating factor for a
person
to wake a person up to do chufa
to become a better person
we want to see how this is going to
apply to loving right we started loved
one who was chasing jack of avinu and
vino was giving him a whole
speech
of how he was so
mean to him
and how he mistreated him for 20 years
is loving going to change or not that's
what drove us to brought us to look at
all these different angles of how a
person to do juve
and
when a person hears
the rebuke
number one on the sheet
of the wise men
when we go and hear a speech
a talk
a torah talk
from a person
who's teaching us
and
he's trying to guide us
and explain to us show us how we're
supposed to live
how he's supposed to be a good jew
and those laws between man and god and
man and man
and we're supposed to take it to heart
and say he's talking to me
many people when they hear these things
he's not talking to me he's talking to
him
i'm
perfect i'm great
i'm
spotless
i don't have any spots of mine to
shimmer i'm pure i'm clean
people don't want to admit that they
have faults
that they have to make themselves better
people like to feel themselves
righteous great people
but that's not the way
of a great person a great person always
wants to better himself
maybe i could be a little better
maybe i could think better
talk better do better
maybe i could be more of a torah a
god-fearing person
what does that person have to say maybe
i could learn from him
king david says because
i his county from everybody i pick up
something for me to think about and to
better myself even people that are
not as great as i am king david one of
the greatest men in the world
at his time in for all time
would he listen to everybody even to
children to his enemies anybody who said
something criticism
he would think to himself maybe
something to it maybe i can learn from
that that can make us even better than i
am
that is how we're supposed to look at
listen to
a
speech from somebody who's teaching us
of torah thought the torah of ways
and
the rebellion says over here
listen to this
a person
who
listens
to a speech
to a talk of somebody
who's giving them
musa giving them
the way of life thorough life
and
he accepts upon himself
to live
according to where he'll be taught
according to the torah guidelines
i'll quite quote the words
this man in one second
yatsam have failed arguable has gone out
from darkness into a great light
because when he decides
that he will
accept
and fulfill
the words
of
god
what god wants us to do he's ready to
accept it
and fulfill fulfilled what nobody hears
it's considered that he already
did it
god says
you took upon yourself to do it
then i consider it like you did it
already
in one second by accepting
upon oneself
to do what you're supposed to do
god considers that like you did it
already it's a wonderful thing god
doesn't that's it great kindness
by accepting upon ourselves from now on
whenever i hear what's what's torah
thought this torah action
target words am i supposed to speak
think do
and i take upon myself to listen
then he
immediately
is considered a person who actually
does and fulfills everything that he
would target in the future
because
if that's what he takes upon himself
that's what's important to god of course
you have to do it afterwards follow up
on it
but just a mere fact
that he's ready
to fulfill what he learns
what he hears and then it's going to say
like he did it already rebecca eckhardt
again i'll quote him
again one
second he's gone out from darkness into
a great light until now he was dark he
didn't know what's right he doesn't know
what what the right thing what the torah
wants and what does god want from me
but now i have people teaching me and
they tell me what the right thing is and
i'm ready to accept what they're saying
because i know that they are torah
informed people
so then i to accept upon myself it's as
if he did it already
and that's what i have on the
nepa
the ish ah this person has
turned around to be a new person he's no
person
because till now
he was going in his own ways
he did what he thought is right
and now decided to do what the taurus
says is right but god says is right
so then he's a different person
he already is subjecting his own
ideas
and his own thoughts
to a higher power
realizing that man
is not the highest
idea
does not have the highest ideas and the
highest thoughts that are possible in
the world
man is very limited
in his
depth
and breadth
of what's right what's wrong
many people
consider things that are right which
societies think that are very wrong some
people think that it's
old sick people we should get rid of
them we don't need them anymore
abortion has become so popular which 60
years ago was murder today it's
wonderful
thank you doctor thank you doctor for
being a murderer i think we appreciate
it very much
things that are so
opposite to torah thought that they're
not considered according to torah
whatsoever in society they start being
accepted well let's start
marijuana let's say it's okay why not
they were one of the things that were
taboo for so many years
but now people come yeah it's a good
thing why not
so we are very
subjugated to
society
and society is not necessarily
having the right kind of hashikofas like
an outlook of life certainly not the
tougher outlook of life
so when a person takes upon himself that
i want to do according to what the torah
says is right
so then he has gone from a darkness
which the world today lives in a big
darkness because everybody wants to keep
up with everybody's doing they want to
have
the possessions everybody possesses they
want to have the dreams everybody dreams
about
and
that to them becomes what's right what's
considered uh
uh
special
and
they
are born with these thoughts and die
with these thoughts and they never see
the light never see the true light they
just go along with society and whatever
society they might live in
and
we know many societies does sound very
very awkward certain things that we hear
about other
other countries what they do and
different things
things eskimos do call it crazy things
i'm going to go into everything right
now
but to them it's considered 100 it's
okay no problem
and to us it's down upon how could you
do things like that so this is something
that every generation comes up with
different ideas
but the
real
true fundamental
ideas are in the torah they never change
god doesn't change the terror doesn't
change
many things in our change in our times
like i mentioned earlier before some
things that were considered totally
impossible
unacceptable now they become acceptable
because people
change same-sex marriage is
the thing which is one of the most
disgusting things in the world
anti-torah
our great politicians are pushing for it
and they
are trying to consider that it's a
wonderful thing we have to be tolerant
things that are so anti-torah all these
different things
so this is person people are living in
the dark
and in the torah thought to pull us up
and
show us what the truth is what right and
wrong is
so a person who takes upon himself
he is
a different person
from now on not what i think is right
society is right
or what maybe even his parents might be
right no
what is
right according to the terror thoughts
and we have a number four another quote
from
these wonderful cypher shabbat shiva
the sinners
a person
who dislikes rebuke
a person does not like to hear
that he does something wrong
a person does not like to hear that
maybe he could do something better
he could better himself
become a better person people don't want
to make people some people don't want to
hear that
they want to hear you're good you're
wonderful
how many rabbis lost their job
because they
give too much whistle to the congregants
they tell the congregants you have to be
better about this you'll be better about
that
and people say we don't want a rabbi
who's going to tell us we're doing wrong
we want someone to give us a pat on the
back
once years ago
i met a man who
was a conservative synagogue
and he told me god get rid of our rabbi
he's no good i said what's wrong with
him
he said why drive up to schuler and
shabbos i want to say good job this to
me and smile i don't want to look the
other direction
i want to get a pen and pad on the back
i don't keep shabbos i want the rabbi to
give me a pat on the back not that he
should look in the other direction
and and not as if he doesn't notice me
people who do the wrong thing they don't
want to feel guilty well they feel good
about themselves
and that's something that most of us in
one way or another
we don't like to hear
our faults we like to hear everything
we're doing good
great people
on the contrary
say tell me i'm doing good what's that
going to help me i'm doing good i want
to hear what i'm doing not good so then
i'll be able to make myself a greater
person
because you're telling me you're good
you're good they're good so what am i
going to gain i'm not going to gain
anything by that i'm not going to get
great if i give you compliments all the
time
of course people like compliments too
because sometimes it gives a little bit
of a shot in the arm but great people
want to better themselves all the time
and they want to hear something
give me something that'll be able to
be different than before something that
i didn't realize before something
greater was
so this is
the number three
motivation
is talking about
how we can
better ourselves
god sends us messengers
the message of god the people who hear
torah talks from speeches from
we hear what they have to say and
take it to heart and
take upon ourselves to be what we
what we're hearing
to do we're told
then we have
another
motivation
how a person
can learn
and live this life
and grow
and become a greater person
the number five but hey sasha yeager
besides hashem it's all been quoted from
this wonderful cipher character
when a person
studies
god's torah
whatever book we open up the five books
of moses
or the books of the prophets or the
scriptures
wherever we open up we always can see
and learn things
how to govern our lives
and how to live
and how to make ourselves better
because that's the purpose of the torah
why did god give the turret to the
jewish people
they should live by it
they should grow by it
they should become greater people by it
so that's something that is so important
we are
urged
to study torah every day
as much as possible as we can
that's the
considered the greatest
mitzvah in the tournament we have 613
minutes what's the greatest mitzvah in
the torah
stunning tone itself that's great smiths
how do i can i get puma
that's the greatest thing we can do
why
because terror is god's thought
it's god's torah
his
his ideas so to speak even though we
don't get the real depth of the ideas of
the torah because we don't have the real
depth of god
but on our level the time is
written on our level
and in every level possible but on the
surface a simple level we can learn so
much from tutorial how to live how to
think and how to talk
that is certainly one of the most
important
ways to be first and motivated
to be good people be good jewish people
between men and men and man to god
i think every week i'm going to finish
off what we started and we still have to
get sort of
carried away and talk and we
i don't know if you have any any
questions maybe i could if there wasn't
so many questions we can always continue
afterwards to finish
all the different things we want to talk
about tonight
but maybe we can stop for a little bit
now any questions or comments anybody
like to say
we actually had it do you have a
question
we actually got a few questions in front
from the uh
from the online
one question is uh it's a general
question about why does hashem want men
and women to be separated
it's a uh he wants to know i guess the
um
besides the obvious reasons why do we
have
again i'm just guessing at what he means
but uh you know if
well we spoke about a few weeks ago i
made this question of uh
when i was separate and the school
talked about that the top one
so we this was asked a few weeks ago
and not to uh
expound on it too much but
schule was supposed to connect to god
and be
more
kind of spiritual kind of people
and uh we're praying to him
so uh
men and women sitting together very
distracting as we know men are attracted
to women when attracted to men
and therefore it's very difficult to
concentrate
and
make our thoughts pure
and holy and connect to god
so therefore that's we separate the men
and women of the shul in order for us to
have time for everybody to connect to
god without any distractions
so this means that in a setting which is
not in a shul then it's okay let's say
at a wedding we don't uh we don't mix
either
well
other times we separate men and women
also because
men and women have a tendency to get
very friendly with each other
and there's certain guidelines that
we're allowed to make contact men and
women together
and comes to a semicolon where people
are dancing and drinking and merrymaking
it's a time that people might be a
little atlax in their relationship with
men and women together
so therefore it's a time to separate the
syndra also
to
see to it that the people don't go over
the line
of having the improper contact between
men and women
so therefore we
make separation and also religious
gatherings
rabbi uh
in the paper there's a story about a
american citizen
who
is a son-in-law or grandson of a
terrorist who was recently killed
and as a lawyer
he has a jewish lawyer
uh and he he asked the uh
the the lawyer to
excuse any jew that would be
in the truck and the jury
and
his lawyer is jewish
so his joy the the his lawyer that he
has
has to do his job granted
but he is asking the courts to
disallow any jew
to be
on the jury
uh can you
can you say something about that
is he is he
is he
doing wrong by saying we don't want any
jews
well i wouldn't say that he's doing
wrong he's afraid that jews are biased
against terrorists
so he doesn't want the jews to be on the
jury
uh i don't think he's doing it as far as
anti-jewish is concerned but he's afraid
that jews
are not too uh
in love with terrorists so therefore
he doesn't want them to attempt to
decide his fate
because he feels they're biased against
them
so and that in itself i wouldn't say
that it means that he's uh anti-jewish
he probably is terrorist he must be in
the jewish but i would say that's the
reason for it he has a jewish lawyer
because he knows that a jewish lawyer
the best kind of lawyers and he must
have talked to him and made sure that
he's not biased especially the lawyer
wants to get fame a lot of money
these guys have lived
unlimited amount of money to pay their
lawyers because they're backed by all
kinds of
oil lords who have a lot of money so the
jewish lawyer
is
going to do the best for him
and the same thing
the one who killed
americana had a jewish lawyer and got
him off the hook those are the best
lawyers they know how to handle i don't
see how they have the conscience to do
it whatever they're doing
but
he knows
who's going to be good for him you know
the jewish lawyers have ways of
winning cases
so therefore
uh
you cannot discriminate against the
juror because of its nationality or
color or creed okay
but i'm saying i understand what he's
thinking i'm not going to understand
that he that he doesn't want jewish
people to feel divised against him but
his duty is to god not to
a pers
do you know what i mean there's sort of
a conflict
well he's not uh obligated to think that
every jew is so pure and holy they'll be
totally objective and not
have anything against a terrorist i
wouldn't want to be against a terrorist
because i'll be objective so i think
you're terrorists i'll think once we've
got to get rid of them no matter what so
i mean
i i might try to be
uh objective but people are people you
know so it's very difficult a lot of
times judges
resign from certain cases because they
feel they're they're prejudiced they
feel they can't be objective they feel
the bias
a lot of jurors
also
excuse themselves if the jury would say
this the judge will not will allow it
the jury will say i can't be on the jury
against a terrorist i feel i'm biased
the judge will
right away
permit him to leave the
person on trial is a different story of
him to say he can't but the juror
himself the person to say like i said
many lawyers
will uh
uh will will step out of the case maybe
judges will step out of the case of
manager and step out of the case because
they feel that they're biased they feel
they cannot be objective
so there's nothing wrong with that
people have to realize the
weaknesses of men
we're not we're not pure
intellectuals we have we have feelings
that
that that tend to taint our our thoughts
and our decisions
so i can understand
what he's saying
not that i sympathize with him but i can
just say what he's saying
i have a question about pesach
yes
there's certain foods the
ashkenazim cannot eat is faraday can eat
yes and i know it's been a game but what
is exactly the the different foods and
i born in poland but i know my ancestor
came from spain so i don't know i'm
ashkenazi or marsvardi
so what's what say that again
i said i born in poland yes my normal
future generation from my family came
from spain
so what i do
i have and i have
a straining style you do according to
what your father did
your father was ashkenazi you're an
ashkenazi if your father was his father
he says
that my foster up there what do you do
he dressed happened
oh yeah right
right right right yeah yeah
yeah well that's good for uh for for a
play for x but it's for actual life you
go according to your uh your parents or
the way they uh
the way their tradition
but certain foods that are permitted
really but just the different
customs
according to the country they came from
why they eat certain foods and do
certain things according but according
to the laws themselves we all have the
same law ashkenazi inspired it's all
going to the talmud according to the
gomorrah
different customs that came afterwards
that depends on different places where
people come from but the laws themselves
they're all the same
right
that's from beans from if it's
well you ask a nazi no you can't
no no no
because it sounds like comet
converse is from chickpeas no chickpeas
is a kidney
such
beans and peas are not eaten by
ashkenazim the reason being because
that they grow together on the field
with the grains the five grains of
hummus so the easter farmers would
collect the beans a lot of times the
pieces of stocks
or
or the
the grain would get mixed in with the
beans and peas and they
could make them together and that
becomes comments
so therefore since it was hard to
separate the two things so they make
beans or are forbidden to eat not to
come to these comets so that was
accepted by ashkenazi but i did not
accept that
so
writes the same thing right yes
so you see some of the stores today
they'll say have a special section fired
them only not for ashkenazi
because those are beans and peas and
they have a special hampshire first
person but oshkoshmen are not supposed
to eat that somebody told me he was in
israel
and they had thick matzos they were
making
and they used to make thick matzos but
thick mats are hard to keep not to be
comets we make them very thin
but there are some i think tomorrow some
of them that eat sick matas
so one of my relatives went over hey
that looks delicious i want to buy one
attachment
that's not your custom you can't we're
not going to sell it to you so we have
to go according to our uh
i'm saying because different problems
come up
and uh people decide that
the law is the law but we want to keep
away from making their making and coming
to
go against the law
so sometimes people
if you have a green light and you can go
across the street but you see it start
blinking already you could really run
across the street if you want to but i
don't want to take a chance i'll wait
for some changes next time it comes to
me
people in daily life we have things that
you can do but we don't do it because we
want to be more careful not to take a
chance
it comes to laws that are the same thing
the certain laws are laws but we so
we were afraid that maybe we won't uh
perform them correctly so we don't want
to take a chance
uh rabbi i have a question regarding the
laws of pesach
i believe that many people especially
jewish people who may own a restaurant
or grocery store sell their chamets
with an arrangement though that after
pesach is over the hallmates will be
returned to them
uh now
now that that's correct right well it's
not the requirement for them
with the arrangement that in case the
non-jew wants to buy they have to pay
for it
you know is it
you don't say you have to send it back
to me you don't just sell it back if you
want to buy it you'll have to pay and
the restaurant costs about a hundred
thousand dollars or the commerce
investment costs about made ten thousand
dollars if he decides he wants to buy it
you can't stop them from buying it but
most of the time they don't want to feel
like buying it because they have no
purpose for it but
it's a
it's a sale
which is a hundred percent uh authentic
and if the non-jew decides to buy the
commerce after passage
he has a hundred percent right to buy
and we can't stop
because my question um my question after
that was going to be if uh for people
who wish to sell their clamates
however
with the hope or with that they would
then be able to
repurchase the chlamyds
if they would really be giving up
ownership because the talmud teaches
that in order transfer of ownership to
occur
a person would need to abandon the hope
of
reobtaining the item
so if a person is going to sell the
humates with the hope of then
re-obtaining the chlamyds
would they really be um
would they really then
be confiscating their ownership of that
of that clamate would that really be yes
they are since they make a binding
contract when the rabbi sells the
comments for everybody he is the
messenger he's the agent for all the
jews who signed up i have people gave me
the over here i have
documents
people say tell me i want to sell my
comments i'm going to give this over to
my rabbi friend
who er pessah on monday
will call in this non-jew
and he's going to make a contract with
him
all these
papers and all the people who signed up
want to sell the comments and you're the
one who's going to buy it he says yes
i'm going to buy it and then make a real
sale
different ways of actions of selling
binding
according to jewish law and non-jewish
law
and it's a
bona fide sale of the comments of all
these people to the non-jewish person
and after
pesach the rabbit calls in the non-jew
and says to him would you want to keep
it and pay for it or do you want to sell
it back to me to everybody
so the answer always is
i want to sell it back because i don't
have enough money to pay for all this
comments that everybody gave me and i
have no use for it i don't i don't want
it
and i'm i'm ready and he buys it back
again with bonafide actions which
sells the comments back to the original
owners
so it's not just a uh
metaphor or just a uh
signed of something it's a real bona
fide sale of comments to him and back
from him
okay thank you
i was once standing there when the rabbi
was buying it back from the
non-jew said rabbi what would happen to
white back
coming to tonight it would be killed in
the car accident what would you do
it would be a big problem
his
relatives would take over all the
comments
that they would inherit from the from
the non-jew of the big problem but he
said this it's a good question it
wouldn't be simple you know he owns it
he's a real owner of it if he wants to
during passage come into the person's
house and take it he can't stop him he
wants to take it it's his 100.
number one
you said during the thing you said that
the commits
is you go out and you burn it
and then you say that you sell it
and then i got a thing in the mail
from ura
now how does all of this work uh
you burn it you burn some of it
a small amount
you sell if you have a some people don't
sell their comments about something they
don't want to sell it they don't know
what they want
you know but if you sell your comrades
but some of it you leave over to burn
you don't sell everything yeah now you
actually take like hey let's assume this
from now so what do you put in a bag and
then you go to actually sell it or it's
just the formality like uh urugu send
you a contract and you don't take the
actual comments like this and put it in
a bag or something and send it with a
contractor put it in your house
behind a locked door
or a closed door with a special sign on
it
and it says this is put away i can't
come why don't you just throw it in the
garbage and forget about it well because
it's valuable
this is valuable
that's not but a whole box of cheerios
is very valuable i i i i i don't you
know the guy owns a pretzel factory it's
very valuable because it costs a hundred
thousand dollars worth of pretzels
that's valuable yeah but don't they
clean it throw into the garbage they
clean out they clean everything out
i remember going to matza factory many
many years ago when i was a kid
and they said like for i think for
they take all the vats everything
everything is just cleared out and then
they make the whole place uh plummets
free and then they make the matzos and
then you know i don't know you know i'm
sorry i'm asking you what many people
have a lot of comments they have flour
and they have crackers they have cereals
so in other words it's okay to save all
that stuff you don't have to throw it in
the garbage no no you can sell it you
sell it
you sell it you sell to the non-jew
oh you could sell it or throw it or
throw it in a garbage either way
yeah i know and then and then you and it
but now what about this like contract
you got from uber how does that work
that's selling the comments that you
have so what do you do you just sign you
sign the bottom of it or something and
then you mail it back to ura that's
right and ur takes it and gives it to
this rabbi i'm talking about who sells
it to the non-jew but you don't you
don't send right giving him making your
agent you're making uro your agent to
sell your comments but you don't
actually give hoorah and either you
don't give them a like a symbolic bag of
comments no no no no you just send we
don't collect comments no no so in other
words you just send
your name you just send back the
contract that's it that's it now do you
supposed to pay money for this so how
does it work you don't have to pay money
for it no you don't pay no money no you
just send back the contract and that's
it right so there's no there's no
uh that's the proper way there's no you
don't really make a donation or you
don't
have nothing to do with it no
you just send back the contract right
and then that that's it that's it now
another thing which i find on the
supermarkets that there's a supermarket
and i've just seen it and first time
i've seen it was last year and then i've
just seen it again this year when you go
to supermarket you pick up like the
circulars like what's on sale
right and next to the circulars on sale
is a sheet of paper like this and on a
sheet of paper it says the name of the
the name of the supermarket on the top
and it says all these following items
are kosher for passover and they list
all the name brands i'd say eight ounce
container of this by xyz company uh is
kosher passover it'll say uh this
example may say ketchup by this company
and this ounces is kosher passover uh
this mustard uh there's these
frankfurters these uh i get the idea
okay about yeah but it's it's like it's
like about hundreds of items and they're
all listed on a sheet of paper what is
your point so what's wrong what's the
problem now here's the thing when you go
shopping around the supermarket these
items if they're not labeled oup
but they're on this one sheet of paper
up by no no no you have to i'm on the
container exactly so that this is
actually useless is what they're doing
at the time well it's telling you what
to look for oh okay but that yeah but
the way it looked to see it it seemed
that if it was on that list you don't
have to worry about the oup it
there are certain lists that say you
don't have to worry about a different
type of list it depends certain things
don't need all you repeat okay okay okay
okay but
more in general even if it's on the list
in the general supermarket
i want to give you an idea of what
they're selling in their store which is
kosher passover so go and take a look
and pick it up
this way you know what to look for
thank you that that was available i did
oh you peed me passover
and if if it's specified on they have a
circular specified this does not need
otp
if you if you have in the circular
saying that this does not need an oup on
it so then you don't need all you'll be
on it certain things have nothing to do
with comets there's a whole year they're
okay
certain things uh water
okay bottled water you don't need oap on
it but some have it but you don't need
it
yes yeah
just you know
no no waters doesn't have no exposure
yeah i have people okay people want to
make sure
for some
no no
some people want to make sure they don't
know today you don't know what how they
process things all different ways
so people don't want to take a chance
only what says o.u.p or whatever oh you
the other other thing okay people that's
not different
we have another question that came in by
email from uh somebody talia ohayon she
wants to know what is the ultimate
meaning of deino how is it enough you
know when we say hashem thank you that's
enough it would be enough this enough
that how could that be enough if it
didn't get us to well the question is
based on the uh
part of the haggadah
that goes through all the miracles that
god to the jewish people
going out of egypt till they
arrived 40 years later in the holy land
and all the miracles that took place
and we said if god would have done that
miracle would be enough for us
god but this miracle would be enough for
us
they're asking me enough why is it
enough
uh we want all the miracles to happen
enough means
as far as god's concerned what we are
worthy of
it's ayanu whatever god did for us every
miracle split the red sea that was
enough that means that we were that's as
much as we were worthy of of that
miracle we're not worthy of anything
more anything he did for us was extra
everything was extra as far as we're
concerned
it's uh it's
looking at ourselves what we're worthy
of it's uh this is certainly wasn't
enough to to give us we're not worthy of
more than that that's the dayenu that's
that's as as much as god gave us that's
how much we're worthy of more than that
not worthy of what
also that also would be enough those
were also not worthy more than that
that's when
we're not worthy of having all these
miracles one each one in itself was
enough for us to to realize god's
goodness to us
what we're worthy of it was enough
for us to give us that particular thing
any other comments of words well we can
maybe even go a little further on our
finish tonight
of course we have number six
we're talking about those things that
motivate motivated us to do chufa
assassin
the ten days of penitence between rashid
shannon kippur
which we discuss at length when that
time comes so just going to skip over
that very quickly
and number six
which is number seven on our glossary
sheet
called ace
a person should be always
ready
to meet
our creator
this is a motivation for us to do tuva
to be good people
we never know when our time comes
when we're going to meet our creator
some people live long some people don't
live so long
and we don't want to be caught off
guard and we have the statements in
number eight
probably the rabbi eliezer said to his
students
repent one day before you
die so they said to him how are we
supposed to know what day that is what
do you mean one day before we die when's
the day before we die he says yeah
that's my point he said in other words
repent every day because you don't know
the person never knows what when his
last day in the world is so therefore we
should always think to ourselves we
better be okay
today because maybe this is our last day
in the world
maybe by this evening we'll be meeting
our creator
and
we want number nine
we want to return our soul to god as a
pure one
we say every day under prayers
god gave us unto soul which is pure
when we give it back to him when we
leave the world we want to give it back
to him as a being pure
we got it pure we want it to stay pure
we want even to grow even greater
so we have to think to ourselves
we never know when we're going to meet
our creator when god's going to say to
him let's take a look at in the summer
is it the same way i gave it to you or
did you destroy it or did you blemish it
you want to have a sham which is pure
which is holy
so
putting it together
yaakov avino met lavan
and he unloaded to him his frustrations
of 20 years
which of these six things
did lovin face when the oculus spoke to
him
i would say
number three
which is over here
number one
he wasn't in pain
he wasn't old
but he was hearing the words
of
avinu
telling him he acted improperly
he was a very very vicious the way he
treated yaakov avinu
and he told him strongly and he could
have
gone out
from the darkness to a great light in
one second
if love and would have taken seriously
yacovino told him
stop being such a swindler stop being
such a thief
repent be a mensch live a normal life a
good life like a man supposed to live
if he would have accepted that at that
moment
he would have been a different person
but he did not
all they made between themselves a
monument that they stood up
saying that
promise you will not go past this
monument to do any bad to me i won't go
anything bad to you they made this
trinity between them
yahshua
love on them come and number 11.
yahshua love on them kind of this is a
sad
word for loving love and return to his
place
imagine that that's her saying
he lived with the occupant for 20 years
he could have been elevated he could
have been a great person learning from
yakim one of the greatest people who
ever lived yaakov
jacob
whoever had the great merit to live with
such a saudi for 20 years
and what had happened at the end
he finally got this rebuke from yaakov
if he could have
become a different person no by yoshof
love on them kindly love and went back
to his place
leave me alone i'm happy where i am i'm
going to stay a swindler a thief and no
good nick
and didn't make any
question to make any kind of impression
upon him he went back to be the same
disgusting person that he was until then
nothing helped
but the number 12
yakov went
he didn't return
yaakov
grew from this experience he was in the
house of lovan
and he was
the
man of truth yaakov was a man of truth
even though god threw him into a place
which is so against truth and so
a crash course against the truth
to house of love on
and he still lived a life of truth like
we mentioned a few weeks ago he still
was trustworthy he didn't take anything
does that doesn't belong to him even
though he tried to swindle him and love
and try to to get everything out of him
that in a crooked way jacob stayed
straight and he didn't bend he stated
isha amis the man of truth
he grew from that from that experience
it was 20 years
the
uh not like lovan who went back and
stayed the same but he grew up
and angels came towards him
angel is showing the greatness of yaakov
avinu
and this concludes the aca venus day
he's leaving his parents when we started
two weeks and months ago
came to lovin for 20
20 years his whole family was born then
except for one child wasn't born yet
and
he's coming back to the land of israel
a greater person
angels are greeting him because he grew
from this experience with a great family
the eleven
boys and one girl alzadikin
and now he's coming to
another challenge which will richard
shem come to to to study about next time
and this is what we have to learn
ourselves
we have all kinds of challenges we face
in life all kinds of difficulties
some people
don't learn anything they don't grow at
all they go back after a challenge as if
nothing happened
and what we're supposed to do is the
akava vinu to grow from the challenge to
take it to learn to realize that god's
putting it in our right in front of us
and we're supposed to know how to handle
it how to digest it how to grow from it
to realize god's
greatness in the challenge that we have
our greatness and challenge that we have
to grow from every experience in life
okay so next week we're having a pacer
party right so we're going to celebrate
that uh
is coming and
reichman and it's going to be here
are we happy to see you right yes
musicians
thanks so
so everybody have a wonderful week and
uh nice to see you see you next week
