that's number one our glossy
sheet she called her
name now if you remember we had a
similar
name before by name of dun one of the
boys the M servant of
RL son the name was D Dina d means to
judge and here we have a very
interesting
point at this point Leah was pregnant
and Ra was pregnant imagine that she was
pregnant but however they
knew Leia was carrying a son and R was
carrying a
daughter and they knew it lay knew it
anyway he said some of the bubbles today
they say stand this way tell the boy
it's a girl they tell you they thinks
they know how to tell a boy and a girl I
don't know if if people can tell or not
I don't know but somehow they
knew and Leia and B
Zila said what's going to happen if Leia
gives birth to this boy that means
number 11 is being born and that means
ra they knew they all Prophet prophetes
they all the great Le and R they knew
that there going to be 10 12 children to
Y 12 children to 10 branches of the
Jewish Nation Ru
shim and if she has number 11 as a boy
then R will be less than even the maid
servants they had two
each so Le I can't do this I can't be I
can't do this I can't have this boy and
Bill and Zila came there and said you
can't let it
happen even though Leia would be so
happy to have another child another son
we know from before she kept trying and
working more children more children to
build up the Jewish nation was the
biggest Mitzvah to build up the Jewish
Nation another son another son that was
the biggest thing in her life but she
couldn't bear to see her sister ra the
big the one righteous outstanding
special mat of the Jewish
people she should have only one child
and she has seven and they have two each
can't be
so guess
what she made a judgment to herself
what's going to happen she was judging
what's going to happen if I have this
boy what's going to happen to
ra number
three if this is a boy she'll be not
even like one of the maid servants who
had two boys
each number
four she prayed to God and this child
turned into gave it to a girl how do you
like
that child turned to a
girl now there's two things we have to
understand over here first of
all we are told those who studied the
tal the
firstate that a
person number
six a person who prays for something
that happened already and says he pray
didn't happen that's a it's a prayer in
vain for instance the Mish this goes on
person comes into the City and hears
screaming and yelling if somebody's in
pain and he says b if God please make it
that that scream did not come from my
house can't you can't pray on that it
happened already you can't pray God's
not going to change the history and make
things not happen with they happened
can't pray for something that happened
already see scream that scream came from
if it's from his house and from his
house you can pray I hope things will go
okay I hope things will turn out okay
whatever but she can't pray for
something that happened to say pray
didn't
happen if a doctor will tell a woman
you're going to have a son and she's
dying to have a daughter you can't go
and pray God make it into a to a
daughter it's a son it's a boy already
you can't change the what's happening
you can't change the actual reality
what's real is
real but great people great people can't
pray for
miracles Regular People Like Us were not
great enough but we mentioned last week
remember the great T who
said his wife is of shabas lighting the
shabas candles and she found out that
not oil in the flask that she had the
bottle was vinegar so she said to
husband what am I going to do it's right
before shabas we have no oil it's
vinegar bite the vinegar God was said
boil should oil should burn who say
vinegar should burn what's the
difference to God he can make anything
happen that was so great to him was
nothing God's in God's hands whatever he
wants he can do he he didn't oh boy look
at that vinegar is burning was know him
was so that's a big
deal oil is also as a miracle why why
does the oil burn because God made the
into the into the nature of the world
the oil burns put a wick into oil and
light it and burns why should it burn
cuz God said so a real reason
so he can do the same thing by vinegar
you can say put the wicked light it
that'll
burn even though we cannot pray for
things to change what the reality
is could pray for
that great people could pray for
that but there's something over here
very interesting exactly what happened
over here it could make a big
difference Rashi says
and number
four he turned around to be in the C
that means that Leia had was carrying a
boy and the boy turned to a girl Ro was
carrying a girl turned her to a
Boy by the way some of the great
commentators tell us that's why we find
that YF who was eventually was born to
RL had Tendencies of a girl of a female
used to play with his hair he used to
like look look nice you find later on we
talk about this a whole thing about that
but he had certain tendency he
originally was a girl turned into a boy
and Dina had tendency to be like a boy
like a male say later on she said will
come to it pretty soon that she did
certain things
that usually girls women don't do but
she did so it fits in very good what
we're saying over here because they were
turned around from one to the
other the tag tells us a whole different
thing that
happened that we start off the same way
that Leia was carrying a boy and Ro a
girl but what God did the miracle that
he took out the baby from roel and put
him into Leia took out from Leia put him
into didn't turn change from boy to girl
they changed
places right y y Dina Was Dina but they
changed places one to the
other now today we have a very big
question the surrogate motherhood that
we had today if you're familiar with
that that people have an embryo for man
and a wife who start off having a child
but the mother doesn't want to carry
that child for whatever reason maybe for
convenience reasons maybe for health
reasons so they have a ways of taking
out the embryo from one woman and
putting into another woman with the
child develops and is born from the
second
woman and there's been big court cases
who's considered the
mother is the original father mother the
embo started from is are they considered
the parents
or the woman who gave birth to the child
that came out of her body the child is
that consider her
child a very big question today in the
court
system and it's a big question in
Judaism who's the father who's the
mother well the father would know who
the father is but who's the mother is
this what the mother that the mother
from here it would seem according to
this
interpretation it seems that we see from
here that the one who gives birth that's
considered the mother because we took
the boy that was being developed in Leia
and put into
ra who was eventually Y and Y is
considered Torah says that his mother
was RA so we see that he go according to
the one who gives birth to the
child of course according to the other
interpretation that the boy turn into a
girl turn to a boy then you have nothing
to do with this weren't taken from one
to the other where they were they Chang
over from one to the other from boor to
girl to boorn it's a very interesting uh
idea that uh
to see how the Torah looks on this
surette motherhood that we're talking
about
so we say the next
PK elim number
seven God remembered
Ro
he listened to her her prayers two
things he remembered her something he
remembered about her which gave her a
reason to
be be able to come
pregnant and give birth to a a son he
listened to her to her
prayers he opened up her womb and she
gave birth to a
son
now
what did he
remember something was remembered over
here so we're told what he remembered we
must mentioned before if you if you
remember that night of the
wedding Ro
le as we know L the father of Le made up
the deal with yov serve me for seven
years and I will give you my daughter R
to be your wife
came after the seven
years and Lon the
swindler
secretly took Leah at the last minute
and he put her in the place of
R but Jakob anticipated he knew what
kind of swindler and bad guy Lin is so
he was afraid that maybe he's going to
do such a wicked act so he told
some secret
information and said to her that when we
come together the night of the wedding
I'm going to ask you for this
information nobody knows except you and
me therefore you'll give me that
information I'll know that's you that's
not
her so sounds like a great idea right L
and
can't went out over that can't trick him
over
that but what happened was that Ro saw
that her father is bringing Lea instead
of herself and she felt very bad for Le
do she put to shame y was going to ask
her what's the secret information what
was it and Le won't know said oh you're
Leia trying to trick me it would be very
embarrassing for Leia so she got up and
told Leia the secret
information so now yov asked her she
said this and this and this you must be
Ro of course the question is why she did
it yov but we discuss that once before
so here ra imagine what she's doing over
here ra the great ra who is destined to
marry the great yov ainu and build up
the Jewish
nation and she's willing to give up what
she has in order for her sister not to
be
embarrassed so God remembered that act
that she did therefore she's worthy of
having a
child another
thing that's number eight that I just
said just
now remember that she gave over the
information secret information to her
sister in order not to embarrass her we
know one of the worst sins in the world
is to embarrass somebody and here she
wanted to take the embarrassment away
she wasn't wasn't embarrassing she
wasn't the embarrassment it would have
happened by itself but for her sister to
go through the embarrassment she
couldn't bear to see that and therefore
she gave her over the secret
information and number
two number two Bas number
nine she was
very agonizing agonizing of the fact
that she should not end up by asov
remember in the very beginning
Le her eyes were puffed out eyes were
she was crying and crying people were
saying yob has two sons love and has two
daughters the older one's for the older
one the younger for the younger one so
yob will
marry BR he's younger son younger
daughter and ASA will marry Leia and
Leia was such a great s it's a righteous
person wonderful great person I'm going
to marry asov she's crying and crying
and
crying and because of her devout prayers
and her determination that she's not
going to let that happen to her
therefore God made it that she should
yob but now Ra was on the other side of
now ra do have any children so it looks
like she's not the one for Yakov maybe
we made a mistake
should go to
as and Ro naturally was also going out
of her mind she should end up by as so
she also crying and and and and and very
upset so naturally God sees people with
the prayers the great actions the great
Deeds that she
did and
he
therefore gave her the great opportunity
to have a son the first son that she had
interesting point over here how many
years ago did she do
that that was seven years
ago seven years since she gave over that
secret information to Lea the night of
the
wedding seven years it took so long for
God to give her a
reward there something we have to
remember all the time we can't expect
immediate reward from God not immediate
punishment has and I me a
reward sometimes there's reasons why we
have to
wait and sometimes it takes years many
more years than seven years for whatever
reason sooner or later it's going to
come rewards in this world the world to
come but we can't get over anxious say
well I did this I was such a good person
I gave money to a poor man today so God
come on give me everything good today I
want to win the lottery and I want to
cuz he gave a few much pennies a poor
person person Instant people want
instant reward but doesn't work that way
God will give reward he's trustworthy
he'll for sure give reward but we can't
be too pushy about it can't be too
expect it imediate reward takes time
many times reward come right away some
people told me about to give charity and
the same day something happened they s
right away got paid the back immediately
never know but here we have a case where
she did a great act a great deed seven
years before and then finally God gave
it her
reward and number
10 and God listened to her the same way
that's the name of our title tonight of
our tonight God listened to her prayers
she was praying all these years praying
and praying and praying people are say
how much can I pray
already pray what called the name of it
never give up pray and pray and keep
praying you never know when that prayer
is going to break through the heavens
and God's going to look because every
prayer doesn't go is not lost we should
never think that the prayer is lost
because every prayer has an effect in
the world maybe a person's children his
grandchildren every pray person prays
does not get lost that's for sure person
maybe in California is is is benefiting
benefiting from our prayers or in
Australia every prayer that prayer that
person prays over the world all Jewish
people are open to benefit from the
prayers that everybody praise we
ourselves can to benefit from it years
later like I said the children
grandchildren great grandchildren we
never know the prayers we see from the T
many places prayers that were said many
years before were rewarded and listened
to to God answering many years later so
here you have two important ideas the
acts the mites that we do the great acts
that we do we shouldn't look
for immediately Roar and the prayers
that we pray we should not look for
immediate answers takes
time good prayers they build up another
prayer another prayer we once as you
mentioned before by mosu by Moses when
he went up to Har to mount sin to pray
for the Jewish people after they did the
big
sin and God wanted to destroy them he
was so angry at the Jewish people m w to
pray to him not to punish them it was
there for 40 days and 40 nights he went
three times 40 days one time the M
second 40 days 40 he was there praying
for 40 days and 40 nights so great
rabbis tell us imagine that MOS been
praying for 40 days 49
the prayers of M the greatest man in the
world imagine what kind of prayers they
were who knows we can't even imagine his
prayers prayed for 10 days for 20 days
for 30 days so some people say okay
listen it's not working it's not going
to work okay one more day 31 okay 32 33
34 let's say 39 that's enough so 39 days
that's it God's not going to listen I
see if you would stop the 39th day 40th
Day okay God
said we got to pray and pray and pray
some more you never know when that
opening God's going to open up the gates
of prayer for a prayers to go in we
listen to this a great lesson we learned
from Ro and many others seven years that
she didn't give up and she was well
worth it because she finally got of
course we always meant and God wants the
sikim to pray that's why he makes it
difficult for them for the great sikim
Sor didn't have a child mentioned so
many times Rifka didn't have a
child ra didn't have a child they all
had to pray and pray because when they
pray the whole world gains from their
prayers God wants them to pray for the
pray for the whole
world so now she
said
finally
which we have in number
12 God put away my
Shame by having the son
Y what was the shame that she had of
course she was didn't have any children
she didn't feel too good about
that she also was ashamed because she's
praying and praying God doesn't listen
to her prayers maybe she's not so great
prays and she has so many children I
pray don't to children so it looks like
she must be much greater than me so it's
very shameful for her she's very
upset that God didn't listen to her
prayers and then we have a third reason
why we say she got to go this is
something that's very interesting and
needs an
explanation that Rashi tells us
that first doesn't have a child
everything that happens if it goes wrong
she gets to
blame something broke but you must have
broke it nobody else was around
something spilled on the floor must be
you nobody else is around once you have
a child oh who broke the child broke it
maybe mother broke it but nobody knows
said something spilled on the floor oh
child did it so God took away his shame
all the things that happen in the house
that blamed the her till now now let's
say blame that little
child so the so go God took away my my
shame so the question is is this so
important we're talking about such great
things having a child Ro having a child
one of the 12 branches of the Jewish
Nation y from the greatest of the all 12
children that yov had and she has so
happy about it so thankful for it and
she's worried about who's going to blame
her for the broken glass is that that's
what she's thinking about I mean is that
something that seems to be so
insignificant she had a child and she
was so happy about it and she she
doesn't have to be worried anymore so
much why does her make a point out of it
and the great comments tell us a very
important fundamental idea in Judaism
from
this that people tend to appreciate big
things but they don't appreciate Small
Things big things oh somebody a child
that's fantastic they get a lot of get a
new job it's
fantastic go to the doctor and he gives
him a a good bill of health that's
fantastic it's wonderful but small
things people
Overlook it's a nice day outside today
the sun's
shining do we think oh it's such a
beautiful day today we think about
that a child came home with a good Mark
on the test
today people
don't connected with God's
goodness R over here every little detail
of her life was recognized that God's
giving it to me from the biggest thing
to the smallest thing that's what the is
telling us over here the biggest thing
that God made me have a child I couldn't
have a all these years
wonderful I'm not embarrassed anymore of
going about everybody's children
children not an easy thing for to walk
around like
that prayers are not being answered now
they're been
answered yes for the big things they
have to appreciate but for the small
things too now I have a child I won't
get the blame for spilling the the milk
I have to appreciate that also not just
the big things especi the small things
in life that's what R was doing over
here the biggest to the
smallest so she called him y for two
reasons y means God put away my bars
embarrassment and Y God should add on
another son for me one more son had to
be born there's 11 there had to be 12th
one she had only one the other two had
two R had six so pray to God I should be
the one to have the and the Merit and
the great honor and privilege to have
the 12 at least two of the
12 that's the name of ysf that she gave
y means to add on she prayed to God
please I should be the one to have the
12 sons be should be two two and two and
six at Le should be equal with the other
two M
servants so this is more or less what we
wanted to discuss today and we open up
any would like to say any ask any
questions or any comments we'll be very
happy to
hear um why did uh R die in child birth
for uh Benyamin
we didn't get there yet we didn't get
there yet we we didn't get to
we we'll get to that we'll get to
that we we give away people won't come
next week as give
Secrets Rabbi uh so why specifically 12
what is the true significance of 12 um
cuz you said that all of the the wives
knew that that was the number that
needed to be accompl 12 everyone of
theim had a Mida had a certain Talent
outstanding point about them something
special to make the Jewish people's B
Perfection there's 12 different 12
different uh ingredients that are
necessary to make the Jewish people
complete and we come to the BR the
blessings when yob gave the 12 children
later on M before he died gave the 12
children the blessings we see from each
one of those things that each one had a
unique something about them that the
other one didn't possess and those 12
unique uh characteristics somebody said
that's a good word over here that they
were important to make up Theus and the
completion and the Perfection of the
Jewish Nation each one of those who had
something special because we talk about
y next time May up to come but this
special about but today all Jews are
really from did you say one of the
tribes Yuda I don't well most Jews today
come from Yehuda and bamin wasn't born
yet bam over here he's been by now
born but um because those uh the 10
branches the 12 were led into Exile
before the two
before near inim and that was saved for
many years from the destruction of the
uh Kings attacking the Jewish people so
the 10im the 10 branches they call them
tribes branches were exiled before the
other two the other two Yehuda and Bam
those 10 that were exiled we don't know
what happened to them exactly taken away
someplace all kinds of stories about it
I'm sure you know about but um the main
ones that left were yud B that they were
EX child years later but then we have we
all come from them but there was other
from all 10 there were some of them that
were left and for sure today we have
people from all the different
ones they they didn't have many but all
shim Le
have that's what we have today but all
those other ones that also had
represented
representation that left over in that we
not thrown into Exile that mixed with UD
so all those tribe is still around today
but mostly they outnumbered
by
H they are at six kids right six boys
right and ra had two so for one but she
ends up with two right eventually why
she had two and the other one had
six mean one
than or what's the reason well the uh
thing that we have to realize that
sometimes there's
and there's there's
a there's something that has to do with
a multitude a lot of things and uh
things have to do with with quality it's
quantity and
quality and the quality of Ro of y and D
is very matchable to the six children of
Leia and uh we say that sometimes
quality wins over quantity so uh in this
particular case the two that she had was
so special so
outstanding that even though every shav
has something some quality to them that
other ones don't have but y we're going
to find out as we going to study later
on what he accomplished more than all
the other ones in in in the and and the
family that time so this quality of ysf
what he accomplished was very more
outstanding to all them put together so
that was something that that R
had two questions yes in last week parad
they said each Jewish woman they used to
have six children in
once how come uh our mothers had only
one each
time
you mean
no then then they used to then they six
how come they each one day they was they
had babies they used to have six in in
once right so how come and how come like
ra and Le they had only one each time
mean yeah no that was a special uh
special bro that
was because in Egypt the MIT that was
the time that God wanted to build up the
Jewish Nation they were about to go out
and accept the Torah in Mount Si now sin
so they were not ready yet for the Torah
yet for whatever reason but Torah is not
ready to be given
for almost for another five generations
after another five generations the Jews
weren't ready for it yet
when they were being prepared to become
a nation of many people to go out accept
to
so therefore God made things very
fruitful to Jewish Mothers that gave
birth to so many at one time that uh
because he wanted make enough Jewish
people to accept the Tor he wanted to
make him to a nation and then they're
going to the land of Israel afterwards
and they have to settle there you have
only 12 children in Israel you can't
have 12 to settle the land you got to
have many many peoples that's why he
made this very quick uh that they had
many children at one time in order to
build up Jewish Nation to accept the
Torah and to go and and and settle the
Jewish or Holy Land of
Israel
yes when Le and Rael was pregnant you
said Le had DIN and Rael had Y
and and switch they D and they switch
them yeah so why didn't pray to live it
as it is and to have more shim instead
is that's exactly everything has its its
uh its amount which is correct which is
which is necessary and 12 is the amount
of the branches of Jewish people to make
the to make the Perfection of Jewish
Nation 13 is not necessary 12 is just
like everybody in this room nobody's
here for was born accidentally as far as
God concerned everybody has a place in
this world and every Jewish people since
the world was created every person in
the world was created there's a person
there's reason for it's not half hazly
that there happens to be how many
millions of millions of people that were
born since the creation of the world
everything was a why some people are
tall some people are short some people
fat some people skinny whatever there's
a everything is done with God is but 12
is considered the of the
Jewish three aot that had to be before a
vote the three a vote because they
included the 12 afterwards and everybody
came up from those 12 that's that's
that's
Perfection I think we
have if 12 is perfection then how come
the boys Bar Mitzvah is at 13 and the
girls Mitzvah is at 12 no no 12 branches
of judism is perfection not the number
12 12 12 those 12 sons that per
Perfection that we need the 12 different
types of people and branches to make the
Jewish people complete that's what I
mean but not
the well yehud was the shav of Kings to
come out of so they needed
Yehuda Ley had have the priest to come
out of each one had their own thing that
they that they were excelled in and
together it makes a complete nation of
of the Jewish
people that happens to be the uh this 12
of course it goes into much deeper
things than
that if you want to get more deep into
you you're a deep type of person and you
like the Deep things but God's names yud
God's main name y v is name that we're
not allowed to pronounce out of the Holy
Temple
has 12 ways of putting
together 12 different so 12 is last
there's 12 breads put on the in the uh
in the Holy Temple the 12 breads are put
on top of the table there 12 is a lot of
significant things about it but it boils
down to the 12
different Sheamus that God has from his
main name that can be put together 12
different ways which has different kind
of influence and and special blessing to
the world but we can't go into these
things it's a little too deep for us yes
just I do for
you uh Raba you had uh mentioned the
connection between the birth of ysf and
Dena um I was wondering if uh you
thought there's any connection between
that and the fact that yoseph wound up
marrying the daughter of Dina uh asnas
um if there was some kind of a
connection between that do you think or
if maybe it was just a coincidence um
and how well there's no coincidences by
Jewish people obviously s a it's a good
uh it's a very good idea that you're
saying I'm sure there was a significant
connection there yeah makes a lot of
sense probably is I never thought about
it but not mentioned it makes a lot of
sense
I would say so there was some kind of uh
connection there between them
definitely
yes we told that when M his mother put
him into the Nile River you know
happened when he was born and uh she
couldn't uh hide him any any longer so
she put him into into a little cradle a
little boat into the N River and the
daughter of par came down to uh to wash
and she saw this little cradle in the in
the in the river so she stretched out
her hand to take it it says that was
very far away and uh she SP on her hand
so we say a miracle happened and their
arm stretch got become bigger and bigger
and
bigger wearn that
yeah so the question is the miracle
happened but how what was she thinking
she she start way over there he say so
far away what are you trying to stretch
your God made a miracle his hand
stretched all the way over there but
what what was she thinking so we learned
from there very big important lesson
that we have to do everything we can do
to do everything we can do God will help
us afterwards but we can't I can't do it
so I'm not going to try you got stretch
your hand best you can and then God
helps so he came right away see but the
Bible
when oh this way good when Rachel was
praying and praying was she praying for
a child or a
son she was up for a son it had she was
just praying for son she want at least
the two sons no but she wasn't pregnant
she didn't have any children she want at
least two sons she love love to have
good daughters also but at least two
sons because those were going to
complete the 12 of of the branches of
the Jewish people you have 12 branches
and two the sons made up to 12 branches
so she want at least those two
sons
singles no online questions tonight
there are but let people here get a
chance
first we decided that if they don't come
here maybe you know
no no no no because it's about uh Rachel
I wanted to know what the age difference
was between Joseph and Benjamin and how
old she was when she
died I don't know how old she was when
she died they were married for uh a
little over 13 years that's all about 15
years Rachel and Jakob that's the only
time they lived together wasn't very
long
because after seven years after the
first seven years he married her and Yos
was born after those seven years and he
stayed another six years after that by
Lo and then they went there they were
married for 13 14 15 years that's how
old she was I don't know don't know what
she was try look it up find it some
place anybody know how howel
was I don't know doesn't say and the
Torah doesn't say maybe some place it
says I'm just going to go back to the 12
again when I was in Israel in an old old
synagogue I saw a zodiac mhm which is
12 what is a zodiac well 12 months of
the year that's 12 another 12 yeah
that's 12 months but why every month
every month has its own uh flavor to it
just like every shavit has own flavor to
it and as a matter of fact every month
responds to one of the 12 sons of yob oh
and everyone corresponds to one of the
names of God 12 names of they all
correspond to one another all 12 and 12
and 12 they're all if you delve into it
we see why each
shet is corresponds each of the branch
corresponds a certain month of the
year they all they definitely have to do
with one
another you see that the uh month of
has sometimes a leap year two months the
one with the Le was divided into two Le
andan divid into two parts so every
month has its own significance
corresponding right that's right that's
right is the number 40 have any
significant in the Jewish religion
because a lot of things happen by
fory well tells person is 40 years old
that's when he gets his b and he gets
his real understanding of things and the
Jews in the midb for 40 years I mean a
lot of 40s yeah that's why I'm asking
what why 40 why not
39 40
is going I tell you 40 is
40 consider 40 days that a a baby is
formed inside the mother whether it to
be a boy or a girl so that has a big
significance of of creation 40 is
considered a time of creation that's
very
significant was we mentioned
before about praying for a boy or a girl
we told that after 40 days you can't
pray anymore for boy but it's determined
inside the mother boy and the girl and
you don't pray after 40 days cuz 40 days
considered the the 40 days of the mble
of the flood was because of the uh
illegitimate children that they had and
the but Wicked people in time of the
flood which the child is considered gets
a form by 40 days so that really is the
foundation the old 40s we have it it's
considered a think is considered it's
it's created by 40 the creation is by 40
so therefore a lot of things have to do
with 40 because creation just like the
baby inside is considered already a boy
or a girl it's determined by for
consider has his form already takes form
by that time so that has to do with many
other things with days with different
things for you don't you don't pray for
a boy or girl before days it's called
unless you're if you're greatest
them I be surprised if you do that you
it's a number
question it's a number question uh since
every number has a symbol 1240 what is
the most powerful or most significant
number oh yeah
there's no such thing because there's a
lot of names of God there's the main
ones that he has a name of 12 name of
four and then 42 name 70 and uh 72 and
they're all different
this it's like one of my teachers told
me I was young I was asking a certain
question I said he asking me who's the
bigger Angel Gabriel or mik who's a
greater Angel who's greater they're all
they have their own greatness every has
their own greatness every number has its
own greatness what's the greatest it's
not it's not uh simply
speaking the number four God's
name that's God's main name that he has
that's four and divides into 12
different ways of putting it together 12
ways of putting four letters together
that's very significant put it that way
but the most significant
it's I wouldn't be the one to say that
very
difficult any other questions
here so we have an online question
that's um not related to the C
what 40 days that's right he got the
Torah then Torah got got a got a
creation for 4 days God taught him the
Torah that's has that we said
before okay we have an online question
unrelated to the
class people nowadays are very occupied
with different diets reading about them
trying them out what is the Torah view
on
dieting that's important to a lot of
us well uh we really spoke about this at
Great length a few months ago we about
the
rambam and dieting has different aspects
to
it uh the way when we say people today
it's very uh relevant most people today
diet for one of two reasons for health
reasons or cosmetic
reasons and uh dieting for health
reasons is naturally very important the
Torah tells us very clearly we have to
watch our
health and uh we have to eat the foods
that are healthy and not the foods that
just taste good
quot at that time the rambam just to
bring it very very precisely the r is
talking about people eating food and uh
he's talking about there certain
foods called Mo that they're beneficial
healthy and calls Ave they're sweet and
delicious but not
beneficial the Rama goes on to say that
somebody who eats foods that are not
beneficial just because they're
delicious but they're not
healthy this to me and an animal this
person animal is the same thing it
explains because what does it mean by
that because an animal doesn't have any
DTS doesn't have any doesn't have any
intellect an animal a man is created
with intellect with
understanding so it comes in front of
the table you know you're not supposed
to eat that food the doctor said don't
eat it but is just can't hold yourself
back so go and eat it so you're not
using intellect you're using your body
your physical desires is controlling you
at that time intellect is someone out
the window I don't I know I shouldn't be
eating it but I can't help I want to eat
it because it tastes good so ra says at
that point you are being an animal
because you're not using your not using
your let your body take over that's what
animals do their bodies have no
intellect they only have bodies so as
far as that's concerned it's a person
has to be very careful not to indulge in
foods that are not healthy if it's
healthy and tastes good okay why not but
if they're not uh the type of food
that's healthy for a person the Torah is
very much against it or for cosmetic
reasons people want to lose weight and
look nice and so on then it depends why
want to look nice it could be different
reasons why a person wants to look nice
a woman wants to look nice to her
husband to look nice she wants to feel
good feel good about herself she wants
to or man wants to feel good himself not
overweight and feel they they'll live
better that way and be happier that way
if they're happier therefore they can
serve hasm better that way so that's a
good idea cosmetic reasons could also be
a good idea for cosmetic
reasons and of course U great people who
were keep away from the uh desires of
this world many of them kept away from
good food only shabas they good food but
during the week they would eat good food
because they wanted to be more holy to
themselves so there a lot of different
uh aspects of of dieing but the one that
most popular that we're going around
today in the world is the one we said
for health reasons and cosmetic reasons
and if the right ideas the right
thoughts it's a big Mitzvah to watch
your health and if it makes you feel
good to be cosmetically to look nice so
it look fit and uh look the way you want
to look and be good feel good about
yourself in order to be happy and
function the right way so that's a
Mitzvah too
based on that question what is The
torah's View on cosmetic
surgery
well uh it's uh it's really something
that we said before but um it's
uh complicated because sometimes surgery
could be dangerous certain risks or uh
are are involved and to put the person
for cosmetic reasons to go on surgery
and the anesthesia which is considered
not the healthiest thing most doctors
don't like people to unnecessarily
honest doctors don't want people in the
C to go through anesthesia because can
have a bad effect so it has to be
weighed very carefully if it's a local
anesthesia depends why a person wants
the uh the uh cosmetic surgery if it's
something that uh maybe that some people
have something on their body that
bothers them very much and that's very
embarrassing to them and uh it makes
them miserable so then it would be a
good idea if there no risks involved and
to to have it done if a person's healthy
and they're doing okay they just want to
make it a little nicer a little better
that's uh already not really the T riew
to go to that extent for surgery to make
it a little bit nicer be something that
a real reason for it to for a person to
go through
that and it has to be totally without
any uh risks
involved I don't know if that answer the
person's question but that's I don't
know want to continue do every wants to
continue I can have one more it's not
9:30 have one more okay maybe something
from the audience another
question only other questions we have
are long
let's look anything that uh we can look
forward to for next week or we should
stop we have some good questions for
next week we'll keep them on on T for
next we so how about just leave for
wedding so what said you have to leave
for a wedding yeah I'm enjoying myself
much just sent in something hold on so
any other questions from the audience
here we have over here okay I think this
will have to wait till next week
Michael
by the way while I'm on my way over here
we have a wonderful program here
Thursday night for girls Chill Zone for
Girls starts at 7 o'clock and we have
Chill Zone for Moms while Chill Zone for
girls goes on downstairs so we invite
you to join us this week Mrs ver
Greenfield will'll be running the class
how about for the
boys oh boys for the boys here El
right for
Dad rabbi we've been talking a lot about
numbers significance of numbers what
about names that we give uh to you know
Jewish newborns anything that really any
Halas about that anything we should
really oh definitely most people uh
before they give a name to a child
they'll consult a rabbi to many times to
see which name to give because there's
many different aspects of giving a name
a lot of things in a name and we've
discussed it by the even every one name
was given we discussed
what the significance of the name was
for that time and the significance for
the future of that each one was a
prophetess and they gave the name
according to the future of their
children what's going to be in the
future so every name is is a is has a
significance to it and uh we're told
that uh the names that a parent gives to
a child if
they're worthy of it God puts into the
mouth and a name which is befitting to
the nature and the uh
future of the significance of the
child's future of what they they're able
to accomplish so a name has lot to do
with a person definitely I I I'm not so
happy with today people making up their
own names that though not names are from
the previous generations just make up
names today that's not really what we
should all the all the generations names
were given according to the generations
from before AB mosha and all these names
people said make all kinds of names
today which they're not having the
greatness and the support of previous
generations of people who had that name
before and uh that's not so good I I
urge people who give the children one of
these a lot of Israelis give names that
are new they would like find what sounds
nice I urge them to add on the name
that's a Biblical name or a name of one
of the
great grandfathers grandmothers that
they're great sadik they are very
righteous people to give a name like
that also to add on to the name of the M
name they give today the name is very
significant one more question um when so
when you name in Judaism um is it that
you're not allowed to name after living
person or
you they do that don't do they name
after the grandp a lot it's a different
kind of uh is there can stare it all one
way or the other or go with the custom
of your family that's what we that's
important to go to the custom of the
family that's very important by Jewish
people also we have to follow the
footsteps of our previous generations
whatever they did everybody has their
great people who uh started these
Customs where they earn and uh they all
have a basis to them everything from
previous generations they all have a
significance to them so we have to go
their footsteps I I know look in my
family um during the Holocaust you know
there were some uh people in my family
who died and it was future Generations
didn't want to name after you know
certain people that died I guess because
of the way they died or something like
that is there anything well we have a
general rule that a person dies called a
so a difficult disastrous type of death
we don't name after them but people in
the Holocaust since they were Martyrs
and heroes they have a different
different way therefore the since Mars
we do name after them people that even
though they might have died in the very
horrific kind of death in the
concentration camps but since they were
Jewish Martyrs the that
they therefore he do KS after them
that's a big a big
cover okay one more more
question just by the way who wrote
and
when well the tells us every sa was
written by different
people part of it
and the whole list of it the list over
everything that was written by who so
wrote some of them
and some of them they're great authors
who wrote them but the exact list you
can
look Go the whole list of who wrote what
what yeah okay everybody thank you very
much hope to see you next week
again thank you very much every
