Hey, if you find yourself showing up at
work and you're just not being
productive to the degree that you should
be, you're not showing up as your best
self, you're showing up with that fake
smile and the true you is not shining
through. You're being suppressed. You're
going through a difficult time. And the
reason is because you are not happy at
home. You might have great work
conditions, but you're not happy at
home. And you're bringing in that
baggage with you at work. That is not
fun. That is difficult. If you are not
an employee, but you're an employer, you
are an HR manager, or you're working
with people, maybe even colleagues, and
you notice that they're going through a
difficult time at work, and it might be
because they're going through a
difficult time at home, in their
marriage, or in their relationships. I
want to share with you a couple of
reflective questions that will put you
on the journey toward being closer to
your best self so you can show up at
work being the best you, be more
productive, and show up and just be a
happier person. A happier person at
home, a happier person at work. This one
question is not going to solve
everything. It's going to put you on the
journey toward being able to solve
everything because I do think you have
the answers within you. And I believe
the questions I'm about to share with
you will start putting you on that
journey so you can just relieve a little
bit of tension and allow a little bit of
the best of you to kind of shine
through. I want you to imagine that you
come home after a long day of work.
You're exhausted. You're exhausted not
feeling like you were as productive as
you should have been. You might even be
afraid because you're not as productive
as you should have been. You're
exhausted
interacting with people knowing that you
are unhappy inside. You're putting on
that fake smile and it's just not
cutting it and you're exhausted from
entering back into this perpetual cycle
of negativity at home. So, I want you to
think about this. Imagine you walk in at
home and for some reason something's
different. For some reason, you feel
like there's a little bit of hope. For
some, I don't know why, but just go with
me. For some reason, you feel there
there is a chance
of you being closer to your best self.
and your spouse is on the couch when you
walk in. You thought he or she was
sleeping, but she wasn't kind of dozing
off, but he or she is awake. Your spouse
is watching you and you don't know that.
And he or she doesn't necessarily know
that you're in a slightly better mood
and for some reason slightly feeling
slightly more hopeful. What would you be
most proud of for your spouse to catch
you doing at that moment? If he or she
were to see you at home, what would you
want her or him to see you doing? What
kind of person would you want him or her
to see you being? And I want you to
actually think about this deeply. Like
even write it down. It should be really
concrete because what I'm really asking
you is what kind of person do you want
to be? And if you were to label that in
concrete terms, like do you want to be a
more confident person? Do you want to be
a kinder person? Do you want to be a
more disciplined person, a more caring
person? And I'm just throwing out
examples, but I want you to think about
the kind of person you want to be and
where you would expect evidence of you
being that kind of person. Answer those
questions and you are going to be closer
to being your best self. You are going
to relieve tension. Your spouse is going
to see a better version of you. You'll
probably see the better of him or her.
and you'll be able to bring that into
work as a more happier, productive
person and radiate beyond and even
impact company culture. There's a
misconception we usually think, well, I
first have to get rid of all the pain,
get rid of all the distrust, get rid of
all the betrayal, get rid of all the
hurt, get rid of all the emotional
baggage and negative feelings and heal.
So, before I figure out who I am, before
I figure out who I want to be, before I
can even think about being happy. And
it's actually the opposite. If you can
figure out how to be happy, and by happy
I mean like be closer to the best
version of you. In order to do that, you
have to define what the best version of
you is. But if you can be closer to the
best version of you, you are going to be
on the journey toward healing all that
negative baggage. So I want you to think
about what kind of person you want to be
and try to label it with one or two
words and think about where you would
expect most to see evidence of being
that kind of person. So if you want to
be confident or you want to be kind, you
want to be caring, you want whatever it
is, the kind of person you think you
are, where would you first expect to see
evidence of you being that kind of
person? Answer those questions for
yourself and you are going to help
relieve tension at home. You're going to
be able to bring in that joy and that
spirit with you at work. Be a more
productive person and that will radiate
beyond. You are going to inspire better
company culture.
