in a recent interview Lepa schmeltzer
gave advice to the Jewish Community
about how to approach and help a victim
especially a child a victim of
abuse I'd like to share with you the
clip let me know if you agree in the
comments and I have a very important
message that needs to be added I feel
like it just has to be said but take a
listen to the clip if there's one thing
comes out from this interview the gift
for clly SL
is one if one message comes out is this
message if anybody comes to you they
went through something the first thing
you do is to say I fully believe you I
love you I fully believe you and even I
don't understand I believe you cuz I
you're talking at age
45 I went to my my family
and one told me Sol hard and one told me
look he can embarrass and one told me
look it's it's it's over they're not
there anymore just forget about
it basically to believe someone and
believe someone doesn't mean to take
huge action it doesn't mean we're going
to go now we're going to say we're going
to do it means just hold them hold a
person I believe
you believe the child believe the victim
very very true you got to empathize you
got to realize and understand that this
person is in pain and this person has to
know that you understand that they're in
pain they have to feel like you're
empathizing with them you have to
believe them but that is step one very
important and crucial step but step two
is to not just believe the victim but to
believe in the victim which means with
all the pain the distrust trust the hurt
the shame with all those negative
emotions and feelings that's going on
with all of that what do you know about
yourself that tells you that the that
that I'm untouchable deep down inside
what do you know about yourself that
tells
you I have the ability to cope I have
the ability to live a productive life I
have the ability to live a joyous life I
have the ability to not Define
Myself by other people's horrific
Behavior but I have the ability to sore
higher and Thrive and
live because when we believe people we
empathize with them very important when
we believe in people in a way that's
sensitive and empathetic not in a way
that's
dismissive we help them heal because we
help them become their best selves
rather than just defining them by their
abuse
that's my story and I'm sticking to it
