I found myself, um, fairly often when
people are willing, when you have the
rapport and there is the trust and they
do make the appointment and they're
sitting there and and they're so nervous
and they're struggling to even
communicate. And when you can calm them
down and say, "I'm not here to judge.
I'm here to love. I'm here to help. I'm
here to be your friend. I'm here to be
your rabbi."
I I often say, "There's probably nothing
you can share or tell me that haven't
been involved with." Although every time
I've said that I've come to learn
something new, which is also an
important point. But I think to
communicate that and transmit that as
rabbis that certainly we have our values
and our principles in our lives and our
lifestyles and we're here to teach and
promote and support Torah and Torah
living and Torah standards and Torah
expectations, but also the the humanity
of Torah and the and the fallibility and
the fact that we're real people. It's a
real world. The Torah is not a utopian,
uh, a utopian document and we're not
here to judge. We're we're here to
listen, to learn, to love and to try to
help you however we can.
