A tree gets its strength from what you can’t see.

We're putting in new trees at Boca Raton synagogue and watching them go in made me think about the yam no rhyme. You know, you see the trees above the surface. They look beautiful. They're going to sprout and they're going to grow. But whether they're strong and healthy, whether they can withstand a storm is not about what you could see above the ground. It's how deep the roots go. It's how strong they are. Yam is not only a time to change what people see on the outside. How beautiful we look. It's about deeper roots. Deeper roots in Torah. Deeper roots in amuna. Deeper roots in being our best selves. So this year, like these trees, let's not only grow taller, but let our roots go even deeper.
