1 Minute Motivation - Light the Fire Within (Elul Motivational Minute)
How can we live our best lives? The Rambam teaches us how we can improve our relationship with ourselves, others, and God. It is our effort that counts almost as much as the result when it comes to personal growth. Including a powerful insight on resolutions from The Piaseczno Rebbe, who was tragically murdered by the Nazis. For more content, visit https://www.rabbiefremgoldberg.org.

it has been said don't live the same
year 75 times and call it a life
our mission is not just to live the same
year over and over and over again
but every year to improve to grow to
become the best of who we can be
and to live our best lives yet the ramen
tells us
a person should make an effort work hard
to do true but
is the theme of this month to grow to
introspect have self-awareness
to be able to improve our relationships
with others with hashem
and importantly with ourselves but it's
a funny formulation
when it comes to other mitzvos it says
we're responsible we're obligated we're
accountable
it doesn't say try to put on film try to
keep kosher try to be honest in business
it tells us what we have to do and yet
here
yesterday try i think the rambam is
telling us
that when it comes to personal change
and growth when it comes to breakthrough
it's very very hard it's nearly
impossible the best we can do is try
yeshtado it's our effort that counts
almost as much as the results
we have to give it our best how do we
give it our best the great p is that's
the reba
may god avenge his blood killed by the
nazis in a spiritual biography
called salvador's rights that in order
to be able to break through and grow if
we want to make real improvement in our
lives we have to understand the
difference
between a wish and a resolution a wish
is what i want
i want to wake up tomorrow i want to be
rich i want to be healthy i want to be
happy
but how am i achieving that what am i
doing to accomplish it we
think that we have goals but they're
really just wishes if we have goals we
really want to achieve we have to see
them not as wishes
we have to see them as resolutions we
have to make a plan we have to chart a
course
we have to have measures and metrics to
be able to evaluate how well we're doing
we have to celebrate our victory and
learn from our defeat
from my enemies i learned what went
wrong and why did it go wrong
we could learn as much or more from what
goes wrong even than what goes right
as long as their resolutions not wishes
what do you want to improve this elul
these next 30 days in the countdown to
rosh hashanah who are you meant to be
how do you want to be thought of what do
you want to achieve
no matter what's going on around us no
matter how hard a year this is
the and the rhyme don't take a loss
don't write them off we can still break
through
we can still discover who we are who are
meant to be we don't have to live the
same day or month or year
over and over again but we can look back
after having set
resolutions and plans and yeshtado
making that effort
and see that breakthrough and that
personal growth measured by greater
happiness greater meaning greater
fulfillment
and improved relationships with those
around us with hashem with ourselves
we are issuing the mind body soul
challenge
we human beings are comprised of all
three we're a body for which hashem has
appointed us to be a steward to be in
charge of our goof
of our body it's not ours how well are
we taking care of it
do we eat right do we exercise are we
getting enough sleep take our beginner
intermediate or
advanced challenge for 30 days to
improve your body
how well is our mind do we challenge it
do we expand it do we leave our comfort
zone
for the rambam the mind is the closest
we get to hashem
that is the telomer in us how we sharpen
and use
that mind and that thinking and our soul
on a shama
how many of us even know that we are a
soul when we have a body
we're not a body that has a soul when is
the last time you nourished or nurtured
or protected your soul what are you
doing for it
