Hi, this is David Alowski. Welcome to
the special Rabbi Alolowski show and a
bridged version with different ideas to
get us ready for this holiday season.
Yum kipper is an interesting day. It's
of course a yontiff, but the Torah
indicates so is the 9th.
And
the kazal tell us that as much as it is
a mitzvah to fast on yum kipper, it is a
mitzvah to eat on Arab.
Amazing, right?
The ninth and the 10th. And there's
different reasons for it. Some are less
positive
because if you know after you've eaten a
lot, it's harder for you to fast.
All right? So you have a big suit and
you go into shul
you start to slowly slowly feel yourself
you suffer. That's one of the reasons
that the mammod the the Jews who would
um set up special groups who would fast
and learn and davin while the kabonos
were going on when it was their turn to
represent the sib they wouldn't fast on
Sunday because it was too hard to fast
on the day right after coming out of
shabas when you ate so much. So since
there's a mitzvah of nephesh on yum
kiper to to suffer. So this actually
increases the suffering. There's a more
positive idea and that is that yum kiper
is supposed to be a yantiff and we're
supposed to be eating sudas.
They tell a story through
now when there was a break in yam kipra
he invites a few people home with him
and the table is all set.
and he fills up the bea with wine and
this guy's going, "What is with these
German Jews? This is the craziest thing
I've ever seen." And he lifts up the
kais and he says, "Today is really we
should make kdish. We should have a
suda, but we're not cuz you said so."
So we eat on the 9th on Arab kipper to
get in those sudas that we're supposed
to be eating on yam kipra because
it's not somebody said to me once the
difference between tishab and yam kipper
the two longest fasts he says
on tishab who wants to eat if you really
thought about the and all of our
suffering who wants to eat.
We lack that sensitivity. But
David Brisa
um
when there were all the terrorist
attacks taking place in the '9s,
1990s,
and it was becoming very common place.
Somebody told him there was a terrorist
attack
and he was very upset. And this was
there had been like one every day for
like months.
So there was terrorist attack and his
wife said you know you know I made I
made your lunch. He goes how could
anyone eat after that?
Who wants to eat?
How could you eat?
You're in such a love of kaduca. You're
like a malik. We dress in white. We say
out loud. We stand for as much as we can
because malim don't have knees. They
don't sit
and we're like malim don't eat. We don't
eat. We're on this level of total rrook.
And so we get in the eating beforehand
to prepare us for this special special
day.
will forgive all of your sins on
that's a
it's it's a Hashem is guaranteeing us
this unbelievable opportunity and all of
us should work hard to take advantage of
it as much as we can. Everyone should be
to
