Hi, this is Rabbi Ulaski with my
question and answer series.
What is Rabbi Ulaski's favorite Musar
Sefer besides Mesillas Yesharim?
Now, obviously Mesillas Yesharim I've
been giving Shiurim on for 35 years, so
it's very good. Question like that.
When we talk about Musar Sefarim, let's
let's talk about what that means.
Rabbi Chait told the story about a
fellow
who during Musar Seder in Yeshiva was
learning Mishlei.
And Rabbi Chait said to him,
"That's not what we learn during Musar
Seder."
And he says to him, "But it's the Musar
Sefer." He says, "I'm writing this to
teach you Torah and Musar. It's the
classic Musar Sefer." And Rabbi Chait
says, "A little too classic."
What does that mean?
That means that the other Musar Sefarim
that have been written over time draw on
Tanakh and Chazal
to put it together in a way for us.
So, that's Musar Sefarim, Orchos
Tzaddikim, Shaarei Teshuvah,
Sefer HaYashar, right?
The next level, though,
is basically Sefarim on Musar that's
either collection of Shmuessen or ideas
that are set up in a more modern way to
try to deal with basic Hashkafah Musar
ideas. Perhaps the most famous
Sefer on Shmuessen is, of course, Sichos
Musar
uh by Rabbi Chaim Shmulevitz.
And uh
I use that for reference, but it doesn't
speak to me the same way
as the most, in my opinion, most amazing
Sefer on this, and it was Rabbi Yitzchak
Isaac Sher.
They put out a collection of his
Shmuessen
called Lekket Sichos Musar.
Every one of those Shmuessen that I read
talks to me directly.
And I gained something directly.
I have mentioned this more than once
because I've quoted him many times in
various shiyur.
And I have been told more than once by
people,
"You came to my community to speak
and you mentioned this wonderful safer
Likutei Sichos Musar and I went out to
get it and you were right.
It was the best Musar safer I ever read.
Everything was relevant. Everything
spoke to me.
I I I appreciate when you speak in your
speeches, but the greatest thing you
ever gave me was that safer introducing
me to the shmoozin of Musar shiyur."
So, that's what I would choose. There's
three volumes. The first one is
according to the parshiyos. The second
and third have collections on different
things, including his insights into
Mesillas Yesharim, which is in the
second volume. And things on the Yom
Tovim. Just I It speaks to me. Everybody
has different people who speak to them.
For me, it speaks to me.
This is Dov Odolensky with our question
and answer series.
