The Road to Destruction (Ep. 191)

hi this is David olowski and welcome to the rabbi elavsky show whether you're watching with our friends over at eternity time wherever you watch or listen to your podcast as always it is a pleasure to have you along for this experience that we all share together I wanted to talk about a little bit about where we are because I've mentioned this in the past this The Human Experience is such that we are limited by time and space the fancy word they use for it is the time space continuum where we are limited by time and space I could have broken of course has no concept of time or space and that's why when you say how if Hashem knows what I'm gonna do how is it free will the answer is you can't talk about Hashem knowing he's not in time we exist in time so we make decisions when coach was outside of time yeah he's he's beyond that same thing with space there's no space this is one of the reasons why um it's so difficult to conceive Infinity right Einstein tells us there's a relationship between time space and matter so that means that outside of this universe is a place where there's no time no space and no matter now what does that even mean how do you relate to that you can go out of your mind if you try to try to grasp that Dr Gerald Schroeder uh once said uh that a monkey will never be able to develop a computer chip because he doesn't have enough synapses in his brain he says we don't have enough synapses in our brain to agree with the concept of infinity it's too big it's beyond us and uh when we try to think of it and go crazy and that's why they come on the mission says anyone who thinks what is a bug was beyond was before it was afterwards yeah it's crazy you can't you can't imagine it it's it's beyond you know our ability to comprehend man's got to know his limitations you know it's just the reality so um so there are things that we don't understand and to be able to grasp when we talk about Infinity so the way we measure things in this world is by time and space all right we use a calendar to figure out time we use a map to figure out space and that helps us plot where we are on this time space continuum so where are we now um give a slightly depressing thought yeah um Woody Allen once said I want to leave you with a positive thought but I don't have one so I'll give you two negative ones two negatives make a positive so uh I want to give you a negative thought that period of time in between schvuis and shavazva Thomas which is the 40 days that moshabrina went up on the mountain we were waiting to build Diego and thus far the press for the past 3 300 years that's what we've done we built Diego every single time we're waiting for motion to come down with the Lucas we make a mistake and we break down we build the eagle and that was the closest we have to the concept of an original sin as that destroyed the world and then after that we were attacking it at higher Sinai and had we gotten those Lucas those lujos rishonos the original lujas We were supposed to get that would have been the world on completion freedom freedom from Death freedom from freedom from you know that would have been it we would have fixed the mistake that was made and it would be a new world um I spoke about this in the past I'm sure but Adventure Shapiro that would have been there were all moved into tishra so he made a husband that means Rosh Hashanah would have been Shiva Thomas isn't Rosh Hashanah talking about the creation of the world according to reveilla who says the world was created in this way uh according to rub Yeshua who says it was created in Nissan so we have to explain where rosh Hashem is in tishui but okay but but it's it's uh has something to do over there obviously but if we would have got in the Lucas it would have been a new world it would have been a different world we we throw around these terms of a world we don't really know what they mean you know I'll give an example um haran died means he died in the lifetime of his father that's the first driver actually brings why is that significant says the gra because no child ever died in the lifetime of their father until haran and he says you take a look at the little chart you know when you know Noah died Shin was still alive when shame died our Pakistan it goes all the way down the first child to die in the lifetime of a parent was Horan hello he says we're talking about from the marble because after the marble it was a new world you cannot compare the world that existed before the Bible it's the world after the Bible the entire world changed you see lifespans dropped dramatically you see the disease came to the world you see that all kinds of things happen it was a different world because I'll say was one of the people who saw a new world it's a different world that tells the Russia shiva once said you think that we're going to have Michelle come and then the world will continue basically the way it is only uh Michelle will be here he says it's a mistake it's a mistake he says imagine a world where no one could see so everything that a person did would be determined by smell or feel or hearing needless to say there wouldn't be a lot of time and effort and money put into food prep presentation people wouldn't get married based on looks you couldn't see anybody you know uh all these decisions are going to be made based on different considerations and then one day poof everyone could see so it wouldn't be that the world that they were living in would continue only now you could see everything would change I remember back in the 1990s when they were developing these computer chips and each time a new computer chip would come out it had so much more capabilities than the chip that was there beforehand that there was just running the old programs but they were running faster until the computer programmers could figure out how to maximize the power of this new chip in order to be able to create something different but you didn't realize the potential that was there um I know I make these references and I apologize but by now you know who I am there's nothing I can do about it but when I was a pre-teen I used to read comic books and I was very much a DC guy you know Superman you know Batman that kind of stuff anyway there was this character Green Lantern who had a ring where you could basically do anything and evidently there was a running joke among the other superheroes that Hal Jordan who was Green Lantern had uh no imagination memory imagination so like he would take his ring which could do anything and like he would make a giant Fist and punch somebody like that was the best you could think of a ring that could do anything you know um when the Powerball was 700 million dollars I bought myself a Powerball and my my son said uh that I already bought one I said well you're wasting your money I'm gonna win and he said why why would you win what would you do would say you don't even have she ifas of how to spend 700 million dollars I said you do he goes oh yeah he says all right you'd buy all your kids houses you buy all your kids cars you know what I mean take them away for pets I said now what now what are you gonna do a lot of money 700 million dollars you know what would you would you do with it yeah it's a amazing thing you start to think such large sums of money you know so yeah it did some imagination Green Lantern had no imagination of what to do with his with his ring so um when you when you have a situation where you say okay what am I gonna what am I gonna do at this point right come up with come up with uh a new idea a new world so if we would have gotten the target it would have been a new world it wouldn't be like life goes on the way it is just now we could see everything would change the same thing over here when Michelle comes we're going to be in a different state of affairs than we are now it's going to be a completely different world you're not going to be able to have a frame of reference when you talk about what the world is going to be like yeah okay so uh so Shiva Thomas would have been Rosh Hashanah because it would have been the beginning of a new world and that that would have started time all over again wherever you come from is completely different the Nissim of Yates will be like a candle compared to the Sun when you compare those miracles to the Miracles that are going to take place for Michelle can you even imagine that that means like splitting the Red Sea and you know ten plagues that was all like small stuff you know I'm gonna be really impressive this time around you know oh do you have an imagination for that so those 40 days every single year we go through those 40 days and we have to decide are we going to build the ego or we're going to accept the Torah and create the world in a new way and as Abba even once said about the Palestinians and I think it can be said about the Jewish people he once said the Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity and I think Jewish history has shown that that's certainly true about us as well how many times we miss this opportunity and so for 3 300 years we go through this period of time we were waiting for Moshe to come down with the lujas and every time we build the eagle and he breaks them and we're right back where we started from because we haven't figured out how to change things so I want to focus on one aspect of the eagle that that I think is uh important for us to think about it was an eagle azov it was made out of gold what's the difference between gold and silver and by the way the Para aduma is related to the ego azov because gold you know today we talk about white gold and red gold but uh back in the good old days it was only what we call Red gold gold is is yellow and red mixed together and the para aduma which was red is seen as coming to remove the mess that was created by the Eagles similar similar to that gold so um so what is the what is the concept over here when we talk about gold so gold but their cloud is called din we've talked about this in the past but maybe a quick hazar um when a little kid asks why is the sky blue the answer is because into the world to protect it from the din is represented by blue green that's the trailers blue green is whereas red yellow is din and so when you're in outer space and you see the sun this giant red yellow bull all around it is Blackness non-existence because nothing can stand before din the world cannot blame a queen with it here on Earth when we look up at the sun we're protected by this um this force field of blue blue green is Rockman now this is what's interesting um I had a guy in or something a student who pointed out he was an industrial psychologist and he says industrial psychologists they use psychology to try to figure out the best way to manipulate you into buying things and uh that's why the products that are placed at the checkout line are impulse items the most essential things bread and milk the supermarkets put it in the back so you have to go through everything else the things that they want you to buy are on the lower shelves on the higher shelves of things that you might want to buy I want to make it a little difficult for you to get now all these things that worked out by psychologists this is you know to manipulate you so he was explaining that one of the things that they use is color because when you see red yellow which is what we call Gold it means Danger and it gets a uh um an adrenaline rush from you that you sense danger that's why stop signs are red and yield signs are yellow because when you see those colors you naturally become cautious and he said industrial psychologists use this when they developed the first fast food restaurant McDonald's because they said how do we get people to come in buy as much food as possible eat it as fast as possible and get out as fast as possible so one of the things they did was make the entire thing red and yellow because those are colors that make you nervous and when you're nervous to eat so you order a lot of food but you can't stay in the restaurant because the colors make you nervous so you eat fast and then you leave they also tilt the benches slightly forward so you can't relax but okay you know but that's the use of the colors green yellow is and that's why when you ask people to describe a relaxing scene it's usually grass by water and part of the reason for that is the colors the green blue relaxes you they tell you that um bedrooms should be painted either blue or green they're relaxing colors yeah and uh that's a tower but the reason for it is because it represents we came to harsinai we received the Tiger we reached the level of Adam we fixed it up we went back that means that was going to deal with us now as big people not as little people as big people and as big people we were expected to take responsibility and that's why what does Moshe Urbana says this is your fault because you gave them all the gold now here's an important idea when the moon is in the sky we don't have that blue sky right why because Silva represents as well and that's why the word zahav is this I have it's not really used as coinage it's used you buy gold things because they're valuable silver is used to buy things kessef is from the lotion of what do I desire I desire something I use the silver to buy the gold I use it to get me to where I want to be but the the the here the Matthias is the gold gold is the reality this is so important because that's the whole you sewed of the ego is reality what's real and what's illusion the fancy word we use for illusion and this Farm is dimion all right imagination we we pretend we think fantasy people fantasize about doing affairs people think what if I had this what if I could do that and that was the first of ever first the favor was Java looked at the tree and she turned that tree into something other than what it was the way I heard Meijer Shapiro explained it once is instead of her looking at the tree and deciding how she was going to act towards the tree she let the tree affect her this is fantasy this is illusion and that's what keeps us out of gun Aiden the revolving fiery sword you've taken a light stick as a kid you know go like this and it looks like there's a figure eight and it's not it's just an illusion when something spins around like that it's the illusion that kicked us out and it's the illusion that keeps us out so when we were attacking that hate we came to harsinai Hashem opened up all the rakias and he opened up the tahaim and he showed us everything this is reality capital r do you see it Murrah says went up to shamayam I saw an upside down world think for a moment the things that people care so much about and at the end of their lives it'll be nothing to them covered that you get in this world you think it means anything the power the wealth Beauty all the things that people put so much emphasis on in real terms do you think they have any value it's nothing one of the greatest comedian was asked who he was going to spend Ola Mahaba with and he sees these two brothers who cheer people up tell them jokes make them happy make peace so if I ask you his return by and hear these two brothers do you see them as on par of course not we don't know who's considered the most that's why when you judge people it's such a slippery slope how do I know who's the most important how do I know who's who's the most valuable the cloud you sell I don't know Agra the reward goes for the effort some people have a kid gets an 80 on a test they Praise Him for this guy another kid got a 98 they say that but where's the other two points hey he got an 80. he said I know he was up all night studying you do nothing because you're so smart you could just walk in there if that's the case you should have worked out with 106. if you put in a little effort you have greater potential so when you get up to olama Ms and we see what a person's really capable of we don't know we don't know what a person's going through the zov is zehav this is reality this is what we were supposed to try to accomplish with all that gold was to build an Our Own to build a mission and instead what do we use it for we used it for the ultimate illusion we threw the gold in the fire and puffed the eagle came out fully made walking and talking we created an illusion and there are people who use their efforts in this world those lives that are make believe so you're not going to get the lujos the Lucas is the Torah stalk of arise I'm looked in the Torah and created the world the real truth so what do we do we destroyed the world all over again so we got the second Lucas which tell us how to how to try to work with this world that we have today but we could have had the world in completion where shavasa Thomas would be a Rosh Hashanah it would be a new world perfect suddenly everybody could see it was it was it's so unexpected Ozzy and Molly strike Pinot our mouths would be filled with laughter because you laugh at the unexpected who could see it coming I couldn't see it coming the paraphrase uh John F Kennedy who stole it from somebody else some people look at the world the way it is and ask why I look at the way the world could be and ask why not we can we can try to imagine a world where everything is perfect and I can make it a little better that's during this time what we're supposed to be doing so that when push comes to shove and it comes time instead of killing Kora and pushing our own to make an ego we'll get everyone to calm down and wait for motion Banner to come and bring the luge a bris without breaking them and then have Shiva Thomas be the Rosh Hashanah it was supposed to be to be filled with perfection okay that's our thought uh we're gonna go now to the question and answer uh part of the program is anonymous apparently wrote the minute is to invite people to a wedding but not to a Brisk why it's very interesting you have a Mitzvah to go to a wedding I was at a wedding recently and I said to somebody you know in the Gucci world I've seen this the concept is that the are the hosts and they're there to welcome their guests to the wedding and they're basically there for you and so people will go to the and say I didn't get a portion or why was I seated over here or why was I this and uh this is they're there to attend to their guests we take the attitude of we're going to a wedding to do the midst of being Miss America that's why I'm there not there for me and therefore whatever will make the husband happy whatever's gonna uh contribute to that there's a certain uh concept when it comes to the dancing you know cause and dances with his father he dances with his with his father-in-law he dances with his rebby you know uh he'll dance with the uncles dance with his brothers you know sometimes everybody who got a broken they make a little circle sometimes all the remain from a Yeshiva you know and there's always somebody who wants to jump into the middle of the circles there's no shakers whatsoever but like they want to be there but but give the guy a chance to you know do his thing second dance when all the old people are tired you know I mean and the young people can come in there and kick everybody you know which is uh what they call dancing today but uh you know the uh um that that experience you know um of looking at it and saying okay what can I do so there are people who are not going to make it into that first dance in that first Circle you know but they can be there and keep their keep the Outer Circle going you know that's important too you know so how are you doing it so you go to what's going to do this when you go to a press it's a very serious thing and there are people who big Mass medium who don't normally you know stay but they'll stay for a bris uh they'll go to a prison they'll stay for the student purpose because to watch this kid be Magnus has the power to get forgiveness for you has power to do all kinds of unbelievable things you know it's a source of bracha Etc so if you invite someone to a brist and like nah I can't make it that's a pagum on them that's a that's a good it's it's a complaint against them so you want to make sure that you inform but you don't invite so that nobody makes that mistake Anonymous asks is music a gushiest pleasure or can it also be roughness oh so I'm talking first about music because there is noise that is not music yeah and a musician told me once he had a meeting of Russia Yeshiva with I understand that Something's Happened music changed yeah uh at some point Jewish music died I was there I was that funeral um David took a German rock song called Genghis Khan and wrote Yiddish words to it and you could see on the Dance Floor because until that point people would be saying you know the dancing was basically you know Hashem have you had a really coordinated group they switched sides it was you know uh they would sing Ashira but you know you would run out of breath halfway through Dominos okay so you know it was pretty good and then at some point the band would go and then everybody over 30 would get off the dance floor and the people would come out and do the hidden dance and it was like and that was it that opened the floodgates and it changed so the rest of Yeshiva were trying to make that condos and they were trying to figure out what's the thing so this one musician said I'll show you and he plays a song and they all say that's fine he says now play it the way they play it and they're like oh that's the problem he goes right it's the beat when you change the beat yeah um I used to show this to my kids it was an example because there's a song that when you just sing it regularly is very pretty yeah [Music] and then when you listen to it what whoa that's the beat changes it the beat speech speaks to your nephish Bahamas have you ever read Lord of the Flies kill the Beast kill Beast right it's uh um changes everything the music itself has a kayak the zayakodesh says that the sharing Nagina are next to the sharichula that music can speak to your soul yeah and and and has the power to reach you in a special way I I may have told the story but I was one time teaching a class on Fila and I was in the show and it was before shashana and I was you know going through the davening and I explained a little bit the special nigging that we use Friday night and I started singing it uh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah and everybody joined in and the Homer was singing hi hi and the Acoustics in the show very good I yeah anyway I finished I could I couldn't teach I I I I I was just I just stopped did my tracks I said okay that's it for today you know I ended the class early I went to the office and one of the Rebellion looked at me and said what's the matter and I told him what happened and he says well of course you know the Mata frame says that the nikunim that we use [Music] has a special power to be able to to lift us up yeah um I didn't hear this from him but I heard it from some of the tal medium that that uh used to say that he thought one of the most beautiful songs that was ever written was the Miami Miami look okay [Music] yeah and he felt that the song the song touches you so obviously you can find music which is you know has more of a beat and an animalistic thing and you can find music that has terrible words to it that can I can twist it around you know there was a coup fighter if it's still around where there was something called suicide Rock the the songs were all about killing yourself stop it Okay so you know somebody tells me once uh there was uh this rapper Eminem and he says uh I find his words you know I find his songs have a lot of meaning to me and I I said I never heard of this guy because he says I would worry about this guy his song's all about killing people and attacking people there's six times because this is where they find their meaning so uh there's uh so the the short answer is that music definitely can be a spiritual experience writes are you able to dive in for somebody else it's uh it's really very simple it's what we call here in our Israel protection where it protects here protection is this kid applies to a school and say listen we've got a thousand people applying you know so you know we'll throw your name into the list and see what happens but if somebody calls up and says listen you know I'm calling on behalf of this girl and I think that she's a really good girl and I think you should really consider Etc so they're going to pay attention to that person the the accountants are going towards sadik to Darwin for us when we're sick is because um the the fact that Sadiq says this is important to me because says oh I'll help that person because of you why isn't Italian from Ahsoka a little random question this time of year but uh the answer is because it says the circus station you have to live in it and a person is not going to live in a Divas so if there's a house that's too hot or too cold you're not going to live there not call the house anymore and so it's not a Dira and so you're not gonna it's not called the sucker anymore you once said the only thing that you are good at is talking now to be fair I'm I I I'm also pretty good at cooking but okay but for the most part the only thing that I can really make money from is talk how do you acquire this skill this is such an interesting question and I would have probably given a different answer um before we stop the podcast six months ago now that we picked up um the fellow who is uh doing the um who's been doing the uh a realowski live show in uh in Flatbush all right Rosner is moving to um to uh Baltimore we wish him a lot of luck um so uh he's been after me to make certain courses for people that uh that's not available [Music] but someone said to me maybe you could make a course for speakers and teach them how to be speakers and I thought that's an interesting idea when I used to teach an early go loud I used to do this a little bit but to teach people how to Be an Effective speaker now having said that with all things you need a certain base talent I believe this is true about everything therapists there are certain people who have a question certain people just have no hushford whatsoever and you can teach them you know certain things but if they lack that underlying understanding same thing with medicine there's certain people who have a certain question other people don't pick it up Sammy when it comes to dance there are certain people who have a certain gift and you can teach them how to develop that gift so um if a person has a certain native gift you can figure out how to develop that further but I think I'm going to be developing a line of uh online serum specifically to teach people how to uh how to learn how to speak um Dale Carnegie who's best known for his book How to Win Friends and Influence People also wrote a book on public speaking and uh and he starts off by saying he was giving a uh a talk about this and a Hall in New York it was a blizzard he says it was packed to the gills those people were so interested in learning how to be able to speak because if I can learn how to speak and to be able to communicate ideas and if you've ever been in in a situation where someone's speaking and they don't know what they're doing it can be so incredibly painful so anyway if it's Hashem we uh we will work on developing that so if you think you have a little native uh ability oh I'm just kidding anyway but if you think you have a certain natural ability then hopefully we will be able to develop that further and that's it for this episode of the
