hi this is David olowski and welcome to
the rapper olowski show
and whether you're listening with our
friends over at tour anytime or wherever
you watch or listen to your podcast as
always it is a thrill to have you along
with us
and we're going to start with the
sponsorship this episode is sponsored by
Ellie in honor of his wife Shira on the
occasion of their anniversary what a
wonderful anniversary gift and I'm
really uh every husband should really
look into their soul and ask why you're
not doing this for your wife because
that's really I I look at Ellie and
Shira and I say that's the that's the
standard that every Jewish couple should
shoot for
Shira is a very dedicated Robert Alaskan
show listener and is delighted that you
are not dead Shira me too
I remember when I had my heart attack a
couple of doctors told me I wasn't going
to make it you know and and afterwards I
would meet people and they say you know
a Daven for you I say well you know it
worked
I'm still here and you guys are still
here and we should spend many many years
together
uh just a reminder we mentioned uh
before about the join the WhatsApp uh
rubber olowski show group there's some
people who do not have access to all of
these various platforms uh but they do
have WhatsApp uh reasons I can't
possibly understand but if you are
interested in signing up for the
WhatsApp group the WhatsApp number is
972-557-116-220 and then you will
receive a audio recording of the podcast
you will not be able to have any other
visuals you know or things that go along
with that but uh at least the audio you
will have
okay
and now I share with you uh uh something
I heard in the 1980s by uh a musician
who was very popular back then called
Huey Lewis he had a group called Huey
Lewis in the news and he suddenly became
this tremendous hit and he said it's
interesting it took me 20 years to
become an overnight hit what he said and
I thought that was really too clever for
Huey Lewis I looked it up of course I
Googled it it was actually Eddie Cantor
who said that first it takes 20 years to
become an overnight hit but uh that's
the quote I wanted to begin with because
we haven't had this close of having a
guest on the revivalowski show in a
while and we are joined today by the
famous ravgov who has been in the field
of Jewish
satara for a long time it's 20 years and
all of a sudden he's exploded on the
scene you can find him every place well
the podcasts to have him you know the
important ones I mean he now he's on
mine so you know he's really made it you
know but you know
um I know ravgov has been on meaningful
people uh they asked me and I said I'm
waiting till they come up with a podcast
called meaningless people because I'm
really not that question but uh but
revgav has been all around and now he's
speaking all over the place and uh it's
uh it's unbelievable I remember it was
years ago that I spoke in h and you said
please mention me and but now you're so
far beyond that I have to say to you
next time you speak maybe throw in a
good word for me can we be clear on what
that what happened to them do you
remember what happened when I said
please mention me uh what happened I
said uh Rob I just mentioned here this
is though you remember exactly what
happened so you guys I don't have the
whole thing I don't remember either but
I was like mention me and you said uh oh
gosh you basically threw me under the
bus and then you go you're happy now you
look at me you're happy I meant it
I mentioned you about
him saying you know uh revkov of course
he was going to a person Hotel no one
invited me right now it's going with his
family everybody excited you know and uh
every now and then I would say you know
uh
I just before I forget if God asked me
to mention himself
that's pretty good listen no honor you
know um Rabbi yeah Samson from cartoon
Inspire so uh when I used to work with
him on on certain things he was still
single he didn't get married till he was
a little older you know so wherever I
would go I would say you know I just
want to acknowledge my Samson this year
and could some girl please do us a favor
and just marry him already just take him
off the market because it's so pathetic
and he he smiled politely as English
people tend to do but
sure everybody
knows what's going on but of course the
rebellowski audience only watches me and
has no idea what's going on in any place
else in the world so revgav who are you
and where'd you come from
what's your story with the rap god story
yeah I mean especially because you know
you you got that you got that uh cool
nickname you know Rap God you know I
have I don't have that I have Rabbi
overlovsky yeah most people most people
don't you know that oh some people by
the way his last name is Friedman people
even know that and that's what's in the
coverage oh I'm sorry
you know every now and then people meet
me they go orlovsky are you related to
the famous River Alaska I said no no
it's a very common name when I call up
and I say my name is Gabrielle Friedman
no one has any idea I really don't know
I used to say God and everyone thinks
I'm saying God do you remember yahuda
exclamation sure rollerblades and all
yeah right yeah he was actually in my
shirt or whatever at one point anyways
if someone says to me my mom met him on
a plane he says who are you he goes I'm
Yehuda
do I know you
know so RAV gov is like you know yeah
well originally it wasn't 12gov it
wasn't that it was my name was first
um my full Hebrew name Fred is Alicia
Gabrielle oh my gosh when did you go
with the Alicia we did and I was Alicia
until I was six years old
and then then I got into a bus when I
was six years old I had a bus driver I'm
not going to go into backgrounds of
ethnicities and whatever but most
drivers says to me boy what's your name
whatever that would mean and I said I
said my name's Alicia
he said Alicia
that's a girl's name
that was the end of that I'm like it's
like a-l-i yeah yeah in the non-jewish
world right you know then my parents
said no it's a navi I'm like what's a
Navy I don't even care I'm going up to
Derek because before there wasn't such a
thing to go off you know I was only six
and I'm like I'm changing my name did
something I'm gonna go buy whatever and
then it became Gabrielle and then it
became God I understand Gabriel was an
easier name for people to present well
there's no women that are named
Gabrielle as far as I know in the
non-jewish world so it was not an issue
Angel Gabriel the angel Gabriel so so
became gav and then my grandfather
called me ravgov uh when I was very
little before you were around before I
was involved in this world that we are
in today and uh
and then uh really give credit to one of
my it's hard to know who but one of my
students name is Ricky vigon one of the
students from Asian 2006 2007 and he
said to me uh someone said to ask what's
your name and he said Rap God
he said Rap God okay Rob got him they
wrote it down like I'm teaching
what seems like oh that's what I've got
and I didn't even I didn't do that I was
just like you know I'm like my name is
Alicia the uh
anyway from the five towns from the hey
League of Five Towns we do the five yeah
that's it though and that doesn't narrow
it down
a high like a big W from Woodmere not
North Woodmere Woodmere the Alta country
Woodmere New York
from the heiliger Woodmere Young Israel
wouldn't uh down the block based Fila
um
when I was running NCAA Long Island uh
that was the only game in town yeah you
know yeah no I mean Libor
came in they brought him in he was like
the young you know happening Rabbi you
know I mean so yeah
but anyway that's it wood mirror came
towards yourself where did you guys OJ
no before that oh hell your help help
yeah
have had a high school well first
elementary school and then I went to DRS
which is DRS which is the high school of
Hell wait they make doctors yeah that
was the first year of the US really yeah
not the first graduating class but the
first
it was the first three years let's say
OJ then with the early admissions yeah
they asked me to leave that's right
and uh I'm two years and I had a short
stint in Lander couch for men I was
there in the basement
and then came back there with the cells
and throw his motion for three years and
then I started teaching in
now were you always on this path to be a
marvitz Tyra
well at what point did you decide I'm
unqualified to do anything else
that's a big title but at least I don't
think that's what I do
I I said like you know I don't know what
else it is really that I could do at
this point you know so uh well I mean
we'll see at this point maybe I'll go
through real estate but anyway the
that's a you know that says the people
show themselves but uh it wasn't the
concentrated effort and thought which is
you just ended up yeah it was totally
not a plan at all when I was 16 the
ghost would make a lot of money and then
I had a shift in in ncswicola the
brainwashed me like crazy that was
amazing you know let's see what color is
familiar yeah it's just so cool amazing
amazing and uh and then it shifted my
mindset that I want to grow in terms of
Torah
and then it was just I just don't want
to go to a school anymore so it's just
to figure out how to how to make it I
went to the Hebrew Academy of Nassau
County and
um in eighth grade I really really well
who basically
you know convinced you to come from that
was before my bar mitzvah it was a
January baby
the beginning of eighth grade so if I
remember Bar Mitzvah was basically from
already and being by Nature an extremist
personality I said well if I want to
become from I'm going to become a rabbi
by the way no I don't know what that
meant right because I was eighth grade
kid you know living in North America
Long Island yeah but I was more or less
going to go and become a rabbi you know
and then rabbi goddessman who was the
touring director and Steve Hamed I
thought he was a friend who was the
principal there at this time he was the
assistant principal he was also the tour
director in state Hammer this is back
during early title bounds days you know
so he convinced my parents to send me to
stay heaven now this was a culture shock
I mean my rebby was a was a satma who
Yiddish was his first language you know
he used to wake us up in the morning
so I was like oh my God I'm at the camp
you know they're coming to take me
light up light up outside anyway so uh
it was pretty scary but uh my learning
director
that the learning director of the camp
that year was Cheyenne Cohen
and my learning Direct by learning Rabbi
was saw from words and they basically
told us that if you don't go to heaven
then you're not going to go to the next
World so you should go there for the
time status for 15 years and become a
receiver so I was like okay
[Laughter]
cut out for that you know
and so then when I was in LA I stumbled
into ncsy that's I ended up going off to
ncsy and I found myself in this field
that I never would have anticipated
right you know but I just had a skill
for informal education because
I wasn't that good at regular education
but I was a master at informal education
so uh so that's I I did feel as a kid in
school that even if I didn't know the
material that was being taught
even if I didn't know what the teacher
was saying like I don't know math I know
science I had no uh American history or
whatever was social studies whatever
they called it but I did know one thing
I knew I could teach better than he's
teaching yeah like I I always felt I had
a knack to be able to give over
information but did you want to go into
teaching or into kiru no no I never
heard a curve I didn't you never heard a
cure no it was a mistake this whole
thing was a mistake the first time you
started teaching in Ishita right that
was a mistake I didn't mean to teach
there how did that happen I didn't know
it was in the wrong place at the wrong
time I was running it's just a picture
up at the wall yeah it's like what time
is it that I was like what do you think
I I didn't I didn't know what is I I
even say a story that was a big name
people know you should talk but uh I
don't think as recently as 2005 2004.
they weren't recently that's a recently
over some people they're 18 now but but
it was but it wasn't day uh 19. but it
wasn't the household name in the from
world
he had a couple things here and there
whatever in the Lakewood series
you have to be in Lakewood or not
religious to know you should talk yes
anyone who's in the modern Orthodox
world you still wasn't part of that
world yeah at least as I never heard of
it never heard of it it was very
interesting I I taught in Asia Torah and
I also toured some hair put both places
and I was Magda the difference between
the two institutions and when I set it
over to H they said we would say that
but or semantic would never agree when I
said it towards they said we agreed that
ancient her and everything yeah yeah or
some Absa Yeshiva
and it's basically you know encouraging
people to come in and sit and learn
gemara long term and uh and that's the
goal it's Yeshiva it's just for people
with with a little background yeah Aisha
Torah is a cure of movement as much as
it needs the Yeshiva to train the people
for the Cure of movement they have an
Yeshua but they're not an issue and each
Place said to me they're exactly and
that's why or Samaya with a twisted
sense of humor decided to name the
Yeshiva a name that Nobel chuva can
possibly pronounce or semaic you know
what I mean and then they made an
advanced collo called
which is good just having fun
anyway
now the real reason he told me that is
because he wanted to give uh you know
that uh Smith didn't have any sons and
he wanted to give him a key imitation
um but uh Aisha Torah
changed his name to H
you know why I don't I'm the nervous
Flora was coming outside
so it sounded too like chubby so they
changed it just to H and also they
wanted clear that it was this was a cube
of movement this was you know and
therefore in Asia Torah at least when I
was there you know if you
ended up going and staying and learning
for the next 10 years you were a failure
because you're supposed to go out and
say call yourself that's that you know
no said this to me many times
and you ended up in in the mirror for
the next 10 years you were tremendous
success right are you saying everyone
car have you ever failure if you if you
leave if the after a year and go out and
do care if so why aren't you sitting and
learning right it's very interesting
right so I I the kids went to the key
room Center not it wasn't a Yeshiva for
for Bali tuba you went to the kir of
movement that's how I'd say the funny
the funny thing which I don't know why
every time I see this I don't know I
don't just do it but when I started I
was I was learning the cola and Taurus
Moshe and Tomo and
um which is
Yeah well yeah well the guys were like
the guys are good schmack but the place
is a little bit intense yeah yeah yeah
yeah I don't say you said Colt is
everything and you said cult right
I love Raymond and I love you know a lot
of people
now they're like yeah no it's right it's
briska yeah yeah
you know it's it's great for it really
is wonderful questions about Eucharist
what do briskets do coaching so I
remember right so randomize when it was
Paris was like this I said what's there
of Malika like why when it comes to a
bird do you checked in the back of the
neck I don't know
is it what's the share of kamitza by uh
by America that you take three fingers
you know I don't know
I said why is there
five variations I go to the basement I
want to bring a member they say well you
want to remember
because I don't know I said you do you
briskers this is what you guys do he
goes I'll tell you how I'll tell you
where I'll tell you when I tell you how
much I never talk about why friskers
don't talk about why you know yeah so
yeah baby it was very good but I I had
no idea about the Cure of yeah I was
just looking for a job so how did you
stumble into Ishita a cousin that was
working there suggested because I did
have a thought process once I was
already learning that I was like you
know maybe I'll go teach and maybe I'll
give back and I wanted to teach 10th
grade my northax kids you married at
this time yeah I was married yeah 10th
grade 10th grade I see is like 15 16 is
when kids are starting to like break out
if I can grab you at 15 16 then maybe I
could help you make less mistakes you
know you'll mess up but at least you'll
have some sort of something that was the
goal Hashem I think Hashem every day it
never worked out I'm sorry for all those
15 year olds listening but uh let's just
keep it at that and um wait you will
stay on staying here yeah no no no no no
I play Mr learning about yourself for a
couple years after I got married and I
was gonna go back and I was gonna figure
it out how long ago is that so this is a
this is a 2000
I got married 2003s in 2000 this is 2005
I was gonna about 20 years ago yeah 20
years ago 20 almost 20 years ago I was
yeah yeah I was gonna this August I've
been here
35 years right so this I came here for
three years so this August had been 23
years I was supposed to go back 32 years
ago exactly yeah but the packing is a
real pain right well we got a bunch of
kids it's a little hard yeah so so by
Regis the goals to stay here learning
two years my parents and those were kind
of to say they're like okay well we'll
help you out for two years which which
meant something very different then does
everyone should know the prices were
very different and
um but your parents are not north of
that yeah I mean now they're now they be
you know they now they once we know the
kids messed them up right so now they uh
they took them in a back alley once you
go when my parents we're still Naturals
they went to a peso program where I was
uh I I went to a person program where
they were you know but nobody made the
association between them and me you know
so I was giving a share my mom comes of
course you know and afterwards the
person says to my mother goes he's very
good she goes oh yes because I hear his
parents aren't from my mother goes no
really
who would have guessed
she's like a good discussion wow you
know I mean so you had modern parents
and now suddenly you're like you're
doing the you know you see this
yeah they were modern right but no they
wouldn't have supported my brother
called me up after he's like how did you
like how did you do it I mean
no you know no it was not that it it was
uh it was it was there was Trickum and
stick them to make it work but it worked
out but after two years of like zaga
bench you know like uh like whatever
good luck so then I discovered something
called The Art of pilot trips I didn't
know what this was I didn't know this
thing existed I I put a resume I'm
looking for whatever and some people
calls up are you interested in what was
like I was like I was like okay but how
do I get you they're like what do you
mean like we'll fly you a new iPhone
he'll come out for like a couple days
and we'll take care everyone to check it
out it's like okay I gotta know what's
happening I went I was like so to my
wife I'm never getting a job
I had a friend of mine once we had it we
had this idea he said you know these
seminaries charge you a hundred dollars
for a registration fee and just open up
and close it we were just going to open
up try to get like a thousand girls to
apply and then close yeah due to
unfortunate circumstances we weren't
able to yeah it wasn't accepted you
didn't find anybody that we could
possibly get who was on our level you
know so what did we get it called I said
but knows betsa
anyway okay so we we uh we went around
to a couple different places
and uh
remember what my brother used to say you
better kill me with the first bullet
because you didn't get in the second
shot but I've been killed on the
internet three times the killed they
like you yeah and I was like I found
that that when you die on the Internet
it's like in a game you know you're not
really dead you know wasted you come
back no yeah you come back guys with the
full power because you don't even know
you don't even know you want to kill me
they're gonna have to do it for real
yeah the kids of this was when I was
looking for different places to work
I got offered jobs in every place that I
went except for one which I'm not which
I don't know if I should say so I won't
but which means I will in a moment
you know who you are
I wanted that I was ready and I was
ready I was gonna and I was so young and
idealistic I would like it was I was
like ready to change the world
and uh and I wanted it and I had
information already before I knew what
they were gonna ask me I knew the
interview I knew the questions I knew
the answers like I knew what they wanted
right and I played it off like you know
I came in they're like what would you do
in this scenario I was like
I totally said exactly what you wanted
to hear and they didn't hire me and I
was like what like the one place that I
was interested in didn't work out okay
it's a long story Seattle my cousin told
me about age I ended up checking it out
and and they hired me for the summer the
kids are fast forward and we'll go back
fast forward I'm in age
this place where I wanted to work shows
up with a group
I want to finish the group they come
over and said
you know you're looking for a job yeah
so I said maybe you don't remember me
but let me introduce myself yeah I said
I very much wanted a job but you didn't
hire me and like now it's not really shy
but maybe in the future who knows
whatever so it never went forward but it
was just so funny that like the one I
think obviously everything's happened to
my everything's you know there's a plan
I never looked for a job in my life
every job I had I was either offered or
pressured into taking because it goes
about who knows that I'm not Iceland and
you know and he arranged for me to do
things so after I after I had left the
rest of America I was just waiting for
the next door for to come along and that
was about 10 years ago and it hasn't
come yet and uh it's it's Hashem you're
young and Hampton you're at the height
but you know when you reach a certain
point you realize that the world is
basically done with you you know it's uh
it's sobering anyway we get like the
music on this like like let's cue the
violins I'm just waiting to die but the
uh invisible at all but the amazing
thing was at some point somebody sends
me a message who is on a tour that I was
with and he says listen actual is
looking for a rabbi you know I think
you'd be a perfect fit for the neighbor
yeah I said okay listen I'll tell you
what I am and I'll tell you what I'm not
you know I am not a world-class basic I
you know I I can answer basic child is
and otherwise this is who I go to ask my
child is to but if you look at someone
to teach and to work with families and
build a community I I can do that
probably better than most you know they
said that's exactly what we're looking
for you know
if you're looking for me to you know I
mean I mean yeah you got the right guy
yeah
so I wrote up the first resume in my
life that I ever wrote and I sent it off
and it was during covet so we had a you
know a video you know uh interview and I
thought it went great I mean I'm a
pretty good judge of these things I
thought oh great I was just waiting for
the offer to decide how to handle it you
know and then I get a form email you
know dear applicant thank you so much
for your interests right the
congratulations like Mom is as as
applicant number five possibly be like
not even like remember Alaska we
appreciate you about playing that since
dear sir
and I was like oh wow that's never
happened I never applied for a job and I
was never turned down because I never
applied you know so it was kind of
strange so here you are with these
people who broke your heart if you look
back
would it have been better if you took
that job no no it just thought it was
made for you oh it was amazing amazing
amazing no it was an H dog could be
amazing and yet that other place might
have been your calling
I didn't name it so I'll just say that
it would not it probably would not have
been a good idea let's just put it that
way probably wouldn't have been good
idea I think I would have been able to
be my spia in a lot of people I think so
but it would not have been a good idea
so I ended up basically Ace didn't hire
me like full time
the the line was you got to be in the
field for 10 years you know if we even
touch East Jerusalem you know they they
offered me other places you want to go
like a Madison Wisconsin
[Laughter]
why would anyone go to Madison unless I
I had no idea what was going I mean they
have a cold Wisconsin is cold cold sorry
this is good I mean my wife's from
Canada so she's used to that but like
we're in Canada Montreal yeah okay
forget about it
when hell freezes over it already did in
Montreal they say that the tourism sack
like why is it we don't do suck it why
is sukis in the in that time of year
right why do I do it right right because
you know if it's by pace of time it's
it's it's the Aviv it's a nice
I was in Montreal pace of time yeah and
I'm not kidding when I tell you
10 feet of snow because the plows
lifting them up they had the walls of
snow pesos and I was like the tour with
all the respect and like we're doing
suckers right now like this is like it's
great I know somebody was in Miami and
he said they have air conditioning in
this sucker otherwise you don't get the
Mitzvah right because it's tired as
Potter and it is so hot and humid so
this time I was in I was in I was in
Miami once uh in September I I walked
for Arab shops I took my showers or
dressed I worked from the door to the
road to get my my car I soaked yeah
it's like you wait for a hurricane to
just cool everything off yeah so it was
like it was like uh but no it was it was
the best there are many things I didn't
know what they were often I didn't
understand I didn't know what they said
it was so I came in like asking for a
job like 10th grade you know
Jamie Cowan
placement at the time he's like
what this is man you were there when
when uh with North was still there yeah
sure yeah no passing 2009 and I started
in 2006. so for the first two years the
last year he was he was you know pretty
much it was out and it was very weak and
for the first few years he was traveling
half the year you know but I used to
give like the schmooza Thursday shoes
and I had a couple fights with him I
went I went at the speak with him a few
times five levels I smoked you better
what's up we're not going to get there
but the point is
five levels
yeah I know and I didn't say anything
this never happened I'd like to return
no I won't tell it I'll tell my story
with the five levels of pleasure I sat
through three people giving it and I
listened to the to the recordings and I
read the outline and I said no one can
explain second level pleasure if you
want to understand what it means is is
that fifth level pleasure the lowest is
physical pleasure the next level up is
called love the third what level up is
called
um uh a meaning
the fourth level up is power and the
fifth level up is Hashem so you know
sometimes these things get accused of
being like pop psychology I said okay
what's the Macaw for this they said
so I look it up and it says the way you
get average members we're knowing it's
greater than Mamon bun him and covered
I said great that fifth level pleasure
is is money and then comes which is love
and then comes covered which is meaning
there's no power
now I understand why nobody can explain
it I got
three different versions of this kind of
it wasn't there I finally took out the
English one and they said there's a
gearsa that says Cipher
I said then it's only four levels of
pleasure that's why no one can explain I
did not say this but anyway I said it
and I went back to them I'm not saying
that that said I had an argument and I
wasn't given that class in this before
Oh I'm shocked before we spoke on we met
him around so we had a little bit about
this I went to an organized I had that
within my level two because I didn't
understand like what that would be a
problem with what's going on
and and I also been Yeshiva I looked it
up and I didn't I'm like am I missing
something like what's going on here
there was one argument we had and what
happened
he fought through uh with what he wanted
to the point you wanted to make
it was already listen I guess I was a
young I was a whippersnapper and he's a
little bit older whatever a couple years
older than me so I I didn't I didn't
push too much another time I had an
argument with him about cast like what
is cast mean and who did he get angry at
me
what am I doing no you're not sufficient
easily you might throw what he believes
it so is whatever
but kids say I didn't know what was
going on Jamie plays he's like placed me
all over the world and then it was like
there was it was a theoretical you
didn't go anywhere no we did we went to
whatever we didn't end up going in we're
in a pilot trip but we didn't do that
we didn't end up going anywhere although
although we possibly would have if you
if you know who you are are watching we
possibly would have if you look at your
last email we we uh
whatever I'm listening to say this is
your chance this is the scores no
negativity there's someone who I loved
yearly I really love him dearly but uh I
know who you are we're going to get you
you know you know the best part about
this is like if any HP watches they're
gonna send all around H and they're
gonna be like okay who's the guy you
know I'm not seeing who you are but you
are lovely and I love you and I really
do my brother has four sons and at his
fourth son he made a big bar mitzvah in
a hotel you know and the a lot of people
and he said you're all here because my
wife invited you if it was me I would
have invited four of you to my house for
a barbecue the rest of the Shabbos
people like you think yeah it was one of
them like which ones yeah so so every
age Branch right now
there's one so that somebody wanted
to come in and
I kept asking
asking what is it not not because I
would ask but my wife is a very like
detail-oriented and you know like paper
scheduled and all that kind of stuff you
know and I'm very not that type of thing
so I would have been like let's try you
know but my wife is like what are we
getting into here my wife comes to every
known that says aren't you supposed to
be teaching somewhere now
yeah I'm terrible I can't get my
schedule yeah okay we can start the rest
of the show back yeah that's what last
time I went to America you know they
were gonna fly me in I said you have to
pay for my wife too
she goes really I said I don't know
where I am you expect me to show up you
need my wife to make sure that I get
there you know yeah there's one person
who knows that yes the way I put on my
cufflinks for you I hope you appreciate
it yeah I put on my uh yeah my time
put some stays in I put some stays in
yeah
because uh I um when the pays come out
what's with the page let's say our
favorite
institution I've got to finish this
story I got because I don't know if you
noticed but I guarantee people out there
like can they finish the story yeah
we've been through like 12 different
stories
yeah I
I went to the student Maybe
they take to change a light bulb I said
how many he says you want to ride my
bike there you go we both went
yeah anyway yeah yeah but I used to
teach you know it's a male there was a
guy whose driver was when I went on a
tangent so remember where you are he
would write down where we are because I
would just go tangent the tangent and
after I say how do we get here and there
we go I don't know I
I I have this amazing gift that you have
and uh but I was given another gift to
remember to be able to go back but I'm
getting older and I'm realizing I can go
back a couple of steps again like I turn
my I pause I'm like
the funny thing is like I'm sure I don't
know if you had this but when I first
started like you know a little insecure
I don't really know what I'm doing I'm
just teaching whatever and there's just
a little bit like you know I hope people
like my speech and yeah and it would be
like a little nervous like what if it
didn't go well now it's just like
you know so if I lose myself back in
there I would I would just go on to
another fact you know now I just stop
Mike
where are we where where what was I
talking about someone in the room was
like in the middle you're up to this I'm
like oh okay good in the middle of a
story
and and I told people I said you could
watch if I get that flash in my eye it's
panicked yeah it means I'm saying to
myself yeah I said the story is going to
end and I don't remember why I voted
backwards and I'm in the middle of it
and I'm like and and you know and then I
and then I move on to some other like
everything exactly
yesterday well see what I'm doing
man now that I've been doing this long
exactly did you hear Ruby wine speak
yeah years ago
very slow and kind of like folksy I
remember when I was going and it's just
kind of folksy kind of thing you know
and uh that's what I switched to now
I just get up there and do stream of
Consciousness I just start I say if
having a podcast has taught me one thing
I can speak for 200 hours with no
preparation
came in the public in the public sphere
I mean the Shiva World knew him relative
obscurity yeah and suddenly the whole
the whole world and he started giving me
he was giving something like 35 shiram a
week and and and this woman I love her
the fact it was still in six stories and
it just not ended I don't know the point
is that uh that I'm trying to be most of
my audience trying to feel the audience
when do you have time to prepare
so he goes what do you think I was doing
last years doing for 35 years
the reason why you can get up and and
and speak is because this isn't just
like you just started right you've been
doing this for years and you learned and
you know what's gonna yeah you went to
shiram and you gave shiram and you
prepared and you know so there's a lot
going on over here do you ever seen peso
Crone how he prepares the uh talk yeah
he was yeah he's got all of his stories
on index cards
and he assembles them together and then
his notes are just the numbers and he
puts him in order he liked the fact that
like
there's different styles so when I get
up I don't have notes at all right and I
don't think he liked that he's just like
it's it's guy but you have to have a
written them whatever it is it's like
that's not where my brain works my kid
said to him because I heard you have
this whole system and he shows him the
whole system with the numbers in the
necklace he goes wow it's amazing he
goes well doesn't your father do
something like that he goes no he just
talks he goes well doesn't he forget
things all the time sometimes sometimes
the punch line of the whole of the whole
speech he forgot to do
but I will tell you just to just to jump
on another train when people ensure
you've had this over the years when
people we spoke about this briefly when
some someone um people come to me all
the time that's that's not true but
there are many times people have come
here my grandmother always said you know
I was like awkward that's all she said
exactly I once thought someone would ask
me yeah you know people ask like I want
to be a speaker like you I want to spill
how do I how to be a speaker I tell
every one of them one thing I said you
will not succeed give up now but then
after that I say okay I don't say it but
I think it sometimes but I I say
um if you want to do what I'm doing just
go to YouTube and learn just learn you
have to learn Torah everything comes
from the door
so whatever jokes you're gonna have
whatever stories you're gonna have
that's from your life that's gonna
happen but if you want to give over
stuff you have to have what to give over
so just learn to her that's it anyone be
a speaker
um anyone can speak
anyone can hone skills in order to be
better than they are I do think that
there are certain things that the bonus
room gives particular talents or
Direction let's call it for particular
people and I think because I'll say that
if you have the student levim or two
different jobs in the basement there's
at least two of many of them jobs some
of them were meant to be
which are those that stand guard by the
gates and there's some that supposed to
be sharing those that sing
and and results say that a short
is kind of Misa if one that's meant to
sing is standing guard or one that's
sitting guard is meant to sing it sings
Why why it's just because that's not
what you're meant to be doing Evelyn is
meant to be doing something if you're
not doing what you're meant to be doing
so what do I need here for so some
people are jump into the glamor of
whatever it is I don't know what glamor
they see but there's this glamor
apparently oh you know what the glamor
is the glamor is a high of people that
are looking at you and listening of some
sorts but glamor comes from someone who
has not bombed that's where the that's
where the glamor comes from you get up
and you're like hey everyone's like yeah
you know what I mean but if you get
every like yeah
tell me a bomb you had where it's like
or it's like Get Me Maybe I didn't have
this but no I always say it's the worst
profession in the world it's the worst
profession in the world because if
you're a plumber they bring in to fix
the toilet so either the toilet works so
it doesn't work and if you say I didn't
do a good job of bringing another flush
it works you know what I mean but if
you're a speaker you can't say I gave a
great speech it's your fault that you
didn't like it yes then you're
completely Tully on the people the point
is when they come and they ask me
can I can I be you the answer is they
say what did you do in order to do this
this happened recently this guy comes
over to me he saw me in my car he says
he says that you have God you know I
said no speak English and I don't speak
a sir you know he's like she's putting
me in Arabic like gonna be no speak
English you know so so I I said yeah
what's up you know he said I'm trying to
do what you're doing like I want to do
what you're doing
so like what kind of social media like
how do you how do you like put out the
in the social media I said I don't have
social media he's like
would
I could see his brain going like error
error ever he's like what do you mean so
how do you so how do you whatever I was
like I don't whatever what do you want
to know you know well how do you get out
there I said I just teach and sometimes
people record it and they put it out so
anytime emotional and everything I don't
have a camera that's uh I don't do it
they come they call but this guy said he
messing around do you teach them what
can I come tell me anytime is like I
don't know if they do this too so many
times said he told me they have 500
people on a waiting list
because they just they just don't have
the facilities to yeah handle that they
also have a lot of people sleeper cells
that are waiting to record
if you deter anytime you ever come after
you like to record you yeah all the time
right and like do you ever show up at a
place and they're there and like yeah
you didn't tell them yeah you know so
it's like three o'clock in the morning
you go to your kitchen
you're like who are you like you know
they're everywhere you know so it's like
they record they put it on someone else
but they put it on on uh on the tube
whatever you call that thing oh let's
put up Here There and Everywhere right
and they put all over and uh like really
really
um okay so I made a website
revgov.com
sign up today big things coming huge
things what do you have on your site I'm
not sure but huge things
you gotta lay the the foundations I
gotta make this out here note to self
make site today
I call videos a couple of things and
whatever you know it's like listen you
know the world of of this uh of the ADHD
deliciousness
um the other day I went out to buy milk
and uh I moved to another country and
learned how to ski you know like where
was I going you know it's like you
started I started a website the thing
like I did and then I have to get back
on the worst part is when you have ADD
and then you get older and the memory
loss kicks it delicious so it's like I
work in the kitchen and I say why am I
here I opened the refrigerator and I
said I wanted to get something I I just
this is that my whole day such a crisis
never know where I'm going beforehand
now I forget why I was even having me to
go here so the answer is that that that
um everyone can get better at speaking
and there are certain people that have a
real talent
I don't know I don't know the word I
don't know if the word is Talent I'm not
sure what word to use but they seem like
they can I think it's with everything
though in other words there's certain
people who are gifted musicians yeah
Mozart was composing music at the age of
five you know
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star he wrote
that it was something in German whatever
it is but uh he he wrote that back to
the Hank days and uh and then and so
okay so now you teach him he's going to
become better at it you know but anybody
can learn how to play the piano
you know and and yeah
yeah I mean that personally yeah
when I was writing articles in the
hamadiya about you know so I was talking
about children's tapes and things like
this and I gave a big plug to his his
things his video young papers I thought
were brilliant well everybody in my
family from all ages enjoyed it
he calls me up
he says you're the first person to ever
acknowledge what I do would you imagine
that like somebody like someone come to
it was so famous I sent the article to
my mother that she should have an office
that's
I met Yono weinreb you know you don't
know why rubus
sure yeah yeah
have you ever seen these artsy benches
it's like beautiful oh yeah it says it's
all Yono wine oh I never noticed so I
didn't know it's a real person like
imagine it's like
you know uh sounds like your wine wrap
like I I and one day this guy comes into
Asian I said he says I'm like
the piece of art
and he's like he's like well I mean an
artist I was like I didn't think of you
as a real person like I thought of you
as an empathy you know Uncle Moishy like
he said these are the names are so big
that you expect like well I'm gonna say
you're good everybody knows that you're
good so no one says anything though what
he says to me is his early tapes like
Burke learns his Brokers and stuff he
just took Jewish songs and put that
already existed he says then I realized
I needed my own songs I didn't know
anything about music right so who gave
me the ability to compose songs
so all those songs on the on the daily
he wrote them he's he says I need to do
it so that's what I feel like I feel
like there's certain people who are
Nashville speakers and there are other
people who if they want it badly enough
because we'll give you a question so
that's why I think that's the difference
between rookies and gashmias right in
the world of rookness there's no ainself
Hashem open up those and open up gaseous
in order to do
there are certain limitations that exist
in the existent of world right so I
don't know what the muscle is today but
oh Michael Jordan will always be like
the guy in my head so like even though
I'm a Celtics fan even though I don't
really care and I never did but my
brother was my phone so I had to be so
become that rebbe that we have in high
school what do you think uh I didn't
watch Lou Gehrig
I'm like Bill Russell which is like
I uh gosh I only realized recently all
day but I'm not gonna go down that road
right now that'll be the next Sky
thingamajig but but the point is that um
I remember the point anymore let me go
back to another story all right go ahead
let me tell you something I'm sorry is
hanging
being like what they do and H what they
do right
since I went to age but I went there as
a colonel guy
I didn't know I was supposed to do Kira
nah I didn't know
so I get in there and they hire me only
for the summer
I got a job just so it's not like I need
a job they give for the summer right
every it was Seattle it's my every
teacher they had was away for the summer
something happened this guy's father
sick another one at a birthday party and
they had a series of unfortunate
accidents yeah exactly clear to clear
the path for Michael red track some were
pushed over towards whatever they
weren't there anymore anyway so I hate
to see something happen to you and your
family so something happened to many of
them it could be the people from Chicago
are involved anyway so I uh
and he um
he was in charge of like all the flow it
was the summer there was like people
coming in and it was still it was it was
the end of the era of like random people
you know like just it was before the
iPhone it was before they whatever so
people still like traveled and did stuff
and whatever it is I go in there and um
everybody was away so they just needed
someone to do something right and uh I
was teaching from two to five so I went
there I said which what do I teach he's
like
I'm like okay you know so it slots two
to three three to four four to five I
know I'm doing pictures of Indiana that
was two to three
three to four gamara Rashi tosos
four to five we were doing inside
all these guys are totally secular right
and they're ranging from like 18 to 35
40 you know they're coming in
I didn't know any better I didn't know
I'm supposed to tell him there's a God I
didn't know
I have no idea and I'm sitting there and
I'm teaching and I sat on the downstairs
in their lunchroom there's a balcony off
the lunchroom you know the balcony that
overlooks like whatever and we had three
four tables put together and and I had
guys coming some stayed from two to five
some walked in just for two o'clock some
just for three jumps before I'm teaching
I'm I'm teaching like I'm in Colo look
I'm teaching these guys they're like I'm
like I'm a guy's line when the foot line
down I buy the two dots they're like by
the colon I'm like what's a colon two
dots one dot on top of another dot you
know they're like what is two of us like
all these Shiva guys know what that is
you know like you know I'm like all
right turn around like where I'm like
right there they're like I'm like just
read it's like I don't know how to read
I'm like what I'm like are you Jewish
she's like well my my dad is
I'm like what's going on here I tell you
I had no idea what's going on that
summer
I think this is how it started then I
was like Are You Gonna Keep Me on
because I need a job they're like no no
this is just a summer thing and then
like at the end of the first I'm like
Are You Gonna Keep Me on because I need
to find a job like no no it's just the
type of thing and then it's like two
weeks before the news about I'm like are
you gonna keep him out and they're like
you know what let me see and then they
kept me on for a couple just for that
slot two to five but I had to find
another job morning night whatever
so I just continued what I was doing I
didn't know age classes I didn't know
five levels of pleasure I didn't know
what happened to 48 ways and dare I get
fired again I still don't know the 48
ways I've never listened to avoid
anyways I never watched before anyways
I've been teaching store for 17 years I
I I I I know the osmosis and I got the
basic just what's going on people used
to say to me ah you're such an age guy
and I used to insulted because I'm like
I'm not about juva like well why not
says the rebel okay fine I get it right
but I'm not about you I go whatever and
then I realized if what they meant was
is like you're like with Noah like
you're just passionate about what you do
and whenever it's like okay I think
there's a compliment you know I'm a nice
guy no problem but I still I still got
brainwashed into the Yeshiva World they
said like my thing is like my goal was
for cement
right I am teaching or summer
agent no you have It's the funniest guy
I've not now then when I'm sold hold on
this is the main point I then shifted
into like okay it's not philosophy you
know and like first cause and then how
do we know and uh you know and happiness
and like all that kind of stuff and
they're great it's wonderful it's really
wonderful
but I can tell you that the guys that I
had in that I had involved with in that
first year
off the top of my head I can tell you at
least I'm just immediately five guys at
least five guys I know immediately that
are married learning in Colville today
full on from
and those are the guys who are thrown
into my Colwell I was teaching Colo in
the afternoon Ash and I would say it's a
lot more than that that are from show me
Shabbos today I don't like to say I I
heard you say something once I'll repeat
it another time I'll tell them yeah I'll
tell you what it is I don't care we were
on we were in a panel together yeah we
did during covid we did a bunch of yeah
we also did it in person a few times and
uh yeah dare I remind you
that was the greatest battle ever it was
Friday night so no one could see it
maybe Juan was let me get my voice back
for a week oh what a good schmecker
panel
do you remember when I was I was the
arbitrary I was the I was like were they
mean yeah
no no really they're agreeing you're
like so there are no problems
so which one is it Valentine anyway
anyway whoever was there knows all right
anyway we did it
did a panel and this was out on Friday
it was on a Sunday a bunch of years back
project compressing inspired panel is
myself remember the dock of Solomon and
it's like felt like yeah and it was on a
Sunday morning I always tell people why
I can't be on a panel I said watch that
it's it's on YouTube you can watch it
you know I don't play well with others
it was great but that's one question ask
the question then we'll come full circle
believe that the other stuff that's the
question of how do you feel when
something that you are Makarov goes off
the Derek
let's see if you'll answer the same
thing do you know what what would you
answer I was like Undo It me right I'm
just saying this was mom is the best
culture yeah so if I say ideas and
people like it great and and what I
always say is if I'm going to take
credit I'm going to tell you what you
said all right because it's exactly the
greatest line
I didn't forget your name I was messing
with him so Rabbi Samson
um was the moderator yeah and he's like
do you care what do you if yo it goes
off the Derry again
so Jakob Solomon gave
psychological analysis of the feelings
of what happens when you build someone
and then they leave who is my learning
director my second year in stay coming
he is he has some great material and
well he's he actually has an education
no he's good he's good
yeah
listen you know Mark
you know I'm not very educated because I
said a name in the second one anyway I
don't know but Samuel Clemens
Rabbi Clemons
anyway so I don't really know what he
said but anyway the point is that uh no
the greatest line he said was I never
let my schooling
get in the way of my education there's
there's a thought out there that people
feel obviously I'm on one side of this
uh debate but if you go to high school
in college so now you're educated right
don't be fooled
I mean Samuel
Who The Wizard of Oz He says scarecrow
there are people with no more brains
than you but they have something you
don't have a college degree so here's a
college degree he goes hey script must
be his favorite c squared I'm a genius
it was one of the most brilliant pieces
of satire ever you know the craziest
things I'm sure that if you go to
college yeah but people watch that don't
laugh yeah they're like they think they
hate it oh you know anyway point is that
uh so they asked each one they asked
Salomon Yakov Salma he said he said uh
fell time gave like a Maharaja or
whatever you know he is very very good
also and then they got to me I'm like
I was like listen I don't even know what
they said I'm pushing back I don't even
know that I was just like
yeah it's painful whatever
they go Robert lavski how do you feel
I don't care
and the whole place was like
what so the ones that know you laugh the
ones who don't know you was like what
does he mean he doesn't care he's like
listen he's like listen yeah listen
40 people in a room
in the room okay
and three of them become religious and I
take credit for those three people then
I have to take credit for the 37 that
didn't become religious you know what I
don't think credit for them I don't want
to get it for them and each one can do
whatever they want to do you know I
don't know what the responsibility oh
but it's a real forget whether you want
it or not it's your facilitators I'm
here to help you if you would like to
but don't blame me and I by the way I
use this concepts of you know the things
you say but I have to add something to
the learning things like that but but
there's one thing I see when people come
to me they ask questions I'm not coming
to tell you what to do I'm here just to
give you an opportunity to see other
options and now it's up to you to decide
and if you're successful
don't blame me for your success and
don't blame me for your failures you're
making decisions over here I'm here to
facilitate you who cares I'm here to
facilitate you I'm here to help you and
uh and to get that but if it's up to you
to be able to do something okay
to not connected and you know just to
say one thing that for all the listeners
out there that they should you know pass
this on to other people as well
I know if I told you I told you your
son-in-law not long ago and saw him in
our Zeal of the known whatever one of
you or something and then you're like
who's my son I have kids like what's
going on here anyway this is another
line I just heard on the way here I was
talking to someone and someone said
robertski once said this just happened
to me all the way here I heard three
things about you in the past week yeah
it went to a lotion hard but this one
so this this one goes into the valley
what do you say um
oh this is my own thing
you know because I feel I got compared
to you a lot when I was when I was
starting there's two people people
compare me to they compare me to Robin
Williams and to David olowsky these are
these are the two that people come over
to and when I said to you I don't know
if you're if you're if you're
appreciative this or not I apologize if
you're not but I don't know if you
remember I called you after your heart
attack
and I said I just want to thank you
because I got a lot of business
you I'm not kidding I got it
like they're like people calling in
France like that night you're supposed
to teach in in Modi in yeah that's right
and he called me up he's like listen
overlovski he's not doing well I'm like
what are you talking about he's like
yeah the harder you're like oh my
goodness that's terrible and they said
can you come teach I was like oh I hope
he gets better
hey I'm lucky I pulled through after all
those people in age suddenly disappeared
in the summer exactly yeah who are no
longer teaching there anyway so so uh
kits I got compared to a lot of things
so okay I I heard you as a kid like when
I was younger I remember specifically
where I was listening to show everyone's
which I don't remember the answer but
remember I was bothered by remember the
embarrasses about low school and things
about Miriam why iron didn't get Saras
okay everyone gets to us Aaron didn't
give it to us you give a whole
about it I listened to it 23 years ago I
was in OJ I was listening to it on a
tape and uh I don't remember the answer
but anyway here's the point anyway so so
you're like I don't remember either but
anyway I applied this
um the one thing that that I think I
think that people don't understand you
and uh and
what I would listen to okay so there's
some things I found funny some that a
lot of humor I connect to because it's
I'm very similar to it so it doesn't it
doesn't make me laugh because I see it
coming because it's my personality
but the token that you give over
I hope you appreciate it though can you
give over because so when you give up I
am much more moved by that than you know
I'm not like thinking about like rubber
Lasky I'm I'm taken by the the vartner I
I tell you just I'm curious if you ever
felt this way
did you ever feel
when you're going to give a talk every
day in front of a big audience let's say
they're paying you and they're bringing
you out of course they apply your first
class yeah right Rabbi stop it I know
I'm in a little boat
that uh you're gonna get up like you
have to do a good job every single time
every single time Chris is like I said
to you it's just
I was wondering well it was just the
other than smiling you shouldn't feel
any lockers it was one sentence you
should really love us then no because
otherwise they don't get paid uh I lose
my location okay and understand like
this is my paranosa you know so I was on
a tour once to like a bunch of schools
and and shows that I gave the same exact
speech in the same exact way to every
single place it hit it out of the park
it was unbelievable I went to one school
nothing
same thing the same exact speech so I
know it's not me and I know it's like
the speech I don't have to be nervous
about it it is because then that place
doesn't invite you back yeah but okay
because you just went back yeah I'd be
talking you weren't good who cares so
what can I do I wasn't I wasn't good by
the definition of did the people enjoy
it the people don't enjoy it you know
now there are some places I go where if
they know me I'm a lot less nervous
because I already have that's open
that's reputation right it's one time I
was speaking and uh
and I tell a joke everybody's laughing
the guy says I said this person next
because I don't get it he goes neither
do I oh but they knew it was funny
yeah they knew that his son wasn't them
that they didn't get the joke but of
course the joke was right but it's my
job to still point out the to those who
are listening to pay attention to the
Homer
I think it's missed there's so much Miss
because people
people come for a show or whatever it is
that's what I want to give them I want
to give them that's right this podcast I
think is unique in the sense that the
October podcasts where people are giving
shiram and this late sun is podcasts
where people are just making fun you
know but I try to present Torah in an
entertaining way that people who aren't
looking for a share or looking for
Content but to give it an entertaining
way that they're having a good time
right I always say if if I could do one
thing in the world it's I want people to
feel like being from and learning Torah
is a fun time it's good it's enjoyable
right that's what I try to do so going
back to what we were just talking about
which we weren't about 20 minutes ago
about so can a person uh can anyone
teach and you said you believe got the
musical abilities or whatever it is
right that's because here's what I want
to suggest
I don't know smoke under I never met him
I know who he is I never met him but I
imagine he wasn't doing it for fame and
fortune
he he wanted he felt like he could give
over stuff in a way that could help
people so since he felt that way he had
Seattle this time to do such a thing
used to say I never asked whether I
could do something right I asked whether
something should be done and I know
Chris Brown would give me the ability
that's right right so that in this
context if someone comes over to me and
they say how do I be like you
exactly if your goal is is for the is
for the fame and fortune um
I can't speak like Ruby wine right I
can't my audience would fall asleep you
know I can't do peso Crown I would have
a heart attack right I can't keep up
that level of energy
I'm like oh wow you know eight times
funny eight times
he introduced me once absolutely of
course and it's five minute introduction
question when I got to speak I said you
just heard more sources in the
five-minute introduction than you're
gonna hear my entire this year
it just rattled you up this is actually
done three places in the dementia over
here I was like I couldn't possibly do
that so you have to find your voice it's
about my friend yeah right my friend
basically presents a mission to brew in
a dramatic Way Comes the mission of
Brewer and asks
yeah listen to this question you're
talking to the from audience yeah I
really understand he says um
this
phenomenologically speaking
will never redundantly be done
extraneously or ephemerally
[Laughter]
so I had an experience recently yeah
where I was going to speak somewhere
and I felt like I had to perform not
performing a performer I mean I don't
think I have to be successful I always
feel like I felt always I'm so nervous
everybody get here I felt that so I I'll
tell you about that in a second so I
felt like I had to do well and I was
talking with one of my tummy then and
I'm like preparing and I'm and I'm
trying I'm like in my head I'm like how
do I do this successfully and I'm
thinking like so what can I do to
impress and whatever
and as I'm talking and I'm thinking like
wait a minute
if they hired me
it's because they saw something I did
and they liked what I did which means
they like me and here I am overthinking
what can I be right to impress them and
I'm like wait a minute
I don't have to do anything to impress
them I just have to be who I am that's
it
and about I mean as as you already
disclosed you prepare your shiram never
so I sat down to be fair when I'm doing
a new share and a new topic I do I write
the whole outline Roman number one so I
I sat down before this one weeks before
but really 45 minutes before and I was
in the building and I sat down I took a
paper and I just wrote down I took a
second paper I just that okay rearranged
and but again like we said many years so
it's like a new share I hadn't given it
before but you know from learning and
different things doing that this is a
lot of material that comes up all the
time so uh I got up there and I was just
myself and believe however I think it
was successful I think it was impactful
okay
so back to can people be good speakers
the answer is if you really care then
you want to do the right thing in life
don't ask me how I became me just just
do
just do what you got to do this and
share me upset this mine I'm happy to
help with pointers right of you know
what not to say knowing your audience
understanding backgrounds of people uh
how to present order
as a structure there was a guy who came
there's a guy who came through I don't
know I'm not going to say his name
although again he wouldn't mind really
but
um he came to a bunch of years ago he
was this guy came out of nowhere I don't
know who he was she was a guy that told
us
standing in a she would come to my
essentials which is the beginner program
he would stand in the back I'm sure over
the years you had people that pop in and
just stay there for a couple years and
then disappear so this is one of these
guys pops in
and I would notice in the back like when
I would quote certain things to be like
you know when I said a joke he never did
that yeah he he liked my scum on my
jokes but you know my casals he's like
oh that's a Kaza I'm like what do you
mean about a Zara
anyway so so he he he he he used to come
and I met him I saw this guy he had an
interesting Dynamic of like he was shy
but I saw that he had something there I
said to him you got to start getting out
you got to start giving teaching Torah
he had he'd been learning his whole life
the guy finished his shots every year
whatever one of these guys you know that
every year but a couple years he
finished the Johnson and and he learns
and his teaching has been in Cola
forever
so I said I said you got to get out
there and the kids are he he really did
I watched him teach the first time first
time he thought it was a painful
experience
now he's great and he had but he had it
you know he has it and it wasn't like I
have to be is he in the field today yeah
yeah yeah
no he's doing really well he was like
he's not out in the speaker's Market
he's teaching a lot of initiative
seminaries and things like that I think
that's like generally how it goes anyway
like you teach like a seminary he's
speaking about jumping to go once or
something like that and then all of a
sudden you're a speaker then that
happened once yeah absolutely well I
actually
started to learn how to speak when I was
in ncsy as an ncso usual director so I
would have to give dresses and shows and
I'd have to give speeches and things
like that so I had that experience you
know going into it and then when I
started teaching so I was already there
you're able to draw on your skill sets
yeah so I had some experience with it
yeah that's why you should go to Asia
tour that that's that's you know just
bring everything listen nobody has any
use for me you know you're a young and
happening you know
where where is ravgov going now where is
he heading
where is it taking now you can stay in
Asian teach there you understand how
often you go out speaking
as often as someone calls me to come
speak
yeah you don't have an agent yeah I
don't have officially no the answer is
me you call me up
ravgov.com right brought to you by
robgov.com so I mean like how many times
how many trips do you make day a year uh
it varies you know doing Corona zero
right and uh the year before then after
zero zero zero but every couple once
every six weeks once every whatever it
is it comes out in clusters it's not
it's not
you know I was better that way because
then you have to keep flying back and
forth yeah but the the challenge is that
when there's a cluster it's a clut you
know so it's like boom boom boom boom
when I was at my height I was going
every month
I would have like a Shabbos I'd have a
bunch of days in the middle and I'd have
a shower to the end I'd go for like 10
days 10 days and I was lucky my career
collapsed before covet so I didn't have
to blame it on Coast
um
although I have to say you know I don't
know how many people actually listen me
I know about ten thousand but but
there's there's obviously more than that
because I mean people who you know
download it and give it out to a few
hundred people on this stuff all kinds
of things so but I can trace about 10
000 people however do you speak to an
audience of 10 000 people I mean the
largest audience I ever spoke to is with
the American solution can is uh three
thousand women you know but every week
took to ten thousand people I usually
when I go it's usually between 10 and 15
000 people wow
I'm telling you I walk by the streets
it's not the biggest the biggest event
that I that I personally spoke at was
was
um a pony Olam event a bunch of years
ago and and you say three thousand women
it's always the women you're gonna get
out there was yeah they never disappear
when I was dating but now that I'm a
grandfather
hear me
a friend of my early so majeski you know
a Jessica
his father was Oliver Shawnee he he came
to I I once gave a share in Brooklyn a
couple years ago maybe three years ago
and his father came to this year
there were so many girls that came
they have to make a men's section you
understand like now the men are like you
know on the side he came to the chair
and he said
move over Rabbi Wallace team
move over Rabbi or laughs he didn't
mention yes he did he did there's a new
Rabbi for the women on the track
he said it was only the women that shut
him over there I know he does um but uh
yeah it's hard to get men too there's a
guy really bald who does she or him and
during December when everybody's in the
Bungalows you know for he doesn't borrow
Park he does in Williamsburg and he
doesn't Flatbush so in bar Park
Williamsburg it's in Yiddish and in
Flatbush is in English so at the time I
was writing for the hamadi in English so
he saw my name he had no idea who I was
you know so he says could you come and
speak so I happen to be that summer I
was in the states I'm not usually in the
states in the summer so it's in the
Boston showroom Flatbush you know anyway
so he books me
this enormous turnout not only not only
of men you know that but we're hundreds
of women you know they had to move it
outside yeah you guys know what's going
on he comes with me says who are you
yeah
I always said yeah
well I was the only one who spoke
English I just want to make clear I've
never been there yet and they had him as
at the closing I don't speak Yiddish but
I was laughing I mean I knew it was
funny I I didn't understand that you're
the guy you're the guy in the audience
together
we get it so we were in England once a
guy picks me up he's talking to me and
Yiddish the whole time and I'm answering
him yeah I feel like that someone get
out of the car my son says because I
didn't know you speak Yiddish I said I
don't he says what was he saying I said
I have no idea
that's amazing oh yeah it's a problem
and it used I came for that generation
when you didn't say they said 20 years
they don't speak Jewish yeah yeah you're
Jewish mother said to me when she met me
the first time
you Jewish
anyway oh we've got we have we're
getting some calls yes uh yes from
Chicago yeah we've always scratched the
service
um we'll have to have you back uh We're
not gonna do questions and answers now
because I we've gone overtime and I know
that most money audience is like us they
have ADD and we can't who pays like
we're going to get the check like for uh
uh yeah so I'm gonna speak to the
producers in charge of this you know and
uh well let's put it this way you know
call this Shameless promotion
