hi this is D rowski and welcome to the
PM edition of the rabber alovi
show we're in the RAB olowski show every
week is
porum and I apologize you know I was
getting ready and I thought I must have
I used to have a couple of outrageous
ties I don't know what happened to them
so I took
a Tai uh for those of you watching in
black and white you have no idea and for
those of you listening just take my word
for it oh in that case if you if you're
listening I'm Runing this really funny
clown
tie I really have to go out and get
myself a perm but you know I don't put
that much Advanced planning into this
show I'm sorry to
say so we're going I used to have some
wild ties out what happened to them all
anyway so uh in fact under the question
answerers someone has asked me how many
ties do you actually have and uh I never
answered that question I was going to
bring them out once you know show but uh
somebody once asked Seinfeld how many
cars do you own because he collects you
know classic cars so he pauses and he
goes not the amount that someone would
say yeah that makes sense so I have a I
have a large collection of ties but I
guess I I don't have my outrageous ties
I don't know what happened to them I
have to go out and get them and whether
you're watching with our friends of
roring time who just had a uh very
successful um fundraising event and uh
all the speakers were uh given um you
know a certain goal to try to be able to
raise and uh I passed my goal thanks to
the wonderful people out there who
listened to this podcast on tan time and
had hakar satov to tan time for making
it available to them and they donated to
help them out so that's uh tremendous to
you and and as we say wherever you're
watching don't forget to like share
subscribe and comment and I've noticed
lately that more people have been making
a real effort to comment and that's uh
that helpful that that pushes our
numbers up our numbers are increasing
and it's only because of wonderful
people like you who uh take an interest
in this show and uh on that topic I've
received quite a number of uh questions
about the merch mer and somebody had I
mentioned this in the last one that I
had talked about merch and now people
are like okay new where are they already
so I am working on
it I've actually gotten some emails with
suggestions of where to go and get it
and how to do it and so um we'll see the
direction we're going to go in obviously
I
um have to do this delicately because
you know I have to try to at least
maintain some semblance of the fact that
I'm a rabbi and you'll find that there's
almost no uh
series for bunner out there who sell
merch but as I mentioned here in the
rowski show it's pour him every day so
um uh yeah so wonderful thank you so
much and of course we have a sponsor
this week barem I say of course but the
uh the uh the the truth is that it's the
people who really not just open their
hearts and open their pockets that gives
us the uh funds to be able to keep this
thing going because believe it or not
this thing actually I know I make it
look so simple I've had guests on the
show who just like freeze up like a deer
in their headlights because they've
watched my show and they figure well how
hard could this be just sit on a chair
and talk to a
camera and they suddenly realize I make
it look easy but the fact of the matter
is that there's a lot of work that goes
into it and uh andash to the people who
are supporting the show show by watching
by commenting by subscribing by
um sending in sponsorships so I we are
sponsored by Anonymous
hippopotamus I assumed they're going for
the rhyme there I don't think this was
actually from a hippopotamus we're not
crazies we just love your show that's
fine that's fine you don't have to be a
fanatic you know when they say someone's
a sports fan a fan is just short for
fanatic you know to be a rowski show
fanatic but uh you know know just if a
person gets uh gets enjoyment from this
or gets benefit from this or even if you
don't get benefit from it but you want
to see others I've had people who I know
who have sponsored and they said listen
we don't watch the show but we know
there are a lot of people who get from
it we want AIC of that that's fine too
um yeah
so okay now before we talk about PR
let's talking about pesak because those
of you who have been watching the show
know that I have been talking for the
longest time that I uh I'm looking to
make my own pesak program and uh the big
problem is trying to find a location and
uh I only want people who want to come
to a RAB olowski PES program meaning um
there are some very large pesak programs
where they even put the emphasis on the
on the speakers and on the shum but
there a lot of people just go because
it's in a nice hotel you know I spoke at
a a circus program once and four people
showed up because uh you know people
weren't coming for the program there was
a program but they weren't coming for
the program so I'm not looking for that
so I'm not looking for a five-star hotel
uh that people are like I'll go here
anyway in spite of the fact that there a
program I want to find a place where
people will go because it's the RAB
olowski PES program now I have Kar an
extremely talented family yeah and um uh
you've seen some of my children on the
show already uh and um there are others
that you have not seen and uh I haven't
brought on any of my daughters and
considering I have eight of them you
know understand so um uh but let's just
say that some of them um are
professional Zumba teachers some of them
are professional aerobics teachers some
of them are professional mot I have
musicians I have a I really uh quite a
talented group of people and so I really
wanted I could staff an entire program
just with my family which is what I've
always wanted to do but I had to try to
find a location so I actually checked
out a location I know this is so um uh
proactive that it's the kind of thing
you just don't expect me to do and um my
kids basically pushed me into it and I
went up north to look at a place outside
of
Taria um called No kinit used to be
known as the Bali they've redone the
entire Hotel they've fixed everything up
it's nice it's it's not the wal off you
know understand uh it's not uh going
down to uh one of these resorts in
Florida but it's very nice and it's it's
right in Taria so it's close enough to
be able to do all of the TM up north Etc
and especially on a year like this when
it's like a lot of
kid um it's uh it's very exciting so I
went up there and it looks like we're
going to go so if anybody wants to come
and join me this year I'm not running a
program I'm doing a trial run if I'm
happy with the way it goes then beder I
will take over it's just the right size
for me it's a it's 170 rooms which I
don't want a bigger Hotel than that um
because then I I believe it'll just
become
unmanageable you know um I did a a pesak
program in the melik Sha Hotel I don't
even know if it's still exists over 30
years ago in uh in ashalon and it was a
small hotel uh 10 and something rooms
but I had
98% participation in all of my sh
everybody came Saul small he he ran a
PES program there he put me and my
family up and uh it was everybody
participated it was it was so wonderful
that's my goal so there's only 170 rooms
you know after I bring in my family and
whatever staff I don't know how many
rooms will be available and assuming
like I say that it goes well this year
so if anybody's interested on the um uh
what do they do this with a Broadway
play they they open out of town first
you know and give it a trial so if
anyone wants to come with me this year
I'll give a fuchi or I'll do whatever
you know just to uh just if there's
anybody who wants to come along it's
called the no kinit used to be known as
the Bali it's it's in Taria and um as it
stands now we're going to be going there
and uh if anyone wants to come along we
uh will be happy to welcome you and like
I say if this actually uh works for me I
think we might be able to barring a
pandemic or a missile attack from the
north barring any unforeseen for
circumstances that's uh the plan of what
we're going to
go and the fact matter is that this year
is also a good year to go
way because and this is tying into my
perm here now right because this is a
very unusual
PES because ER PES is
shabas now ER of PES on a normal year
right uh so you know you do bikas Kitz
the night before and then you uh doit
in the
morning um you can eat to a certain
period of time I had a neighbor who was
making a bris on air of
pesak and people said a of pesak goes
well you know when it's going to end
because at some point everyone's going
to stop eating and take all of the food
and burn it so you know you have
relatively small window in in which to
work so when we were in America for PES
my son yakob used to have a m that we
would go out and find some kits and eats
before to be yeah when my house is p my
wife doesn't allow any in the house at
all yeah you eat it outside in the lobby
you know so um but my in-laws they would
uh they would go out and buy Bagels in
the morning and have Bagels on their
kitchen table and then clean it up and
do stra for helmets and then you know
cover the table that's uh pretty
impressive and then you do all your
preparations for the Seder right so you
make all the things for the Seder plate
and you get everything ready you set the
table you get everything done well you
can't do that this year because since
it's on chabas you're gonna have to
do Thursday night which is the day
before the day
before and you'll do your
on
Friday but then actual P you're going to
have to have all the preparations done
beforehand and um and then of course you
have to eat your sudas and what a
challenge that is because you know
you're not allowed to eat mat or
p and you know you're not allowed to eat
after whatever the time is where you
are so that only gives you a few hours
to eat your two chabas
day and it has to
beet right so people dve in very early
and then they have their first
suda and then they um they bench they
walk around the block or whatever to
make a heick they come back and they
wash and have the second suda which is
going to be
sh all of this is done before whatever
time in the morning is
so and you have to try to make sure and
all theit gets eaten up so that there's
none left over because otherwise you
have a problem what you do with it you
can't burn it so I one year bought petas
my wife suggested that we buy petas
because uh they don't make so many
crumbs as regular kala so I bought petas
but through what I can only describe as
poor planning I bought these like
yeminite petas that are much
thicker and I had mostly little kids and
I the a person which was uh over the
amount that was
necessary
yeah uh it was the I violated the pizza
principle in any event so I was spending
the whole time chopping up in the little
pieces and flushing them down the
toilet that's so bad so now I buy the
thinner petas and iin a half a p as a
kazas um for each person and I actually
buy Kosh
P because it's kidney and no is of
having it in the house even though we're
knowing not to eat it on PES and I find
that the p goes much faster with a
little Kus on it and
um uh that's how we get through it so to
be able to do this in your own house is
of course kind of tricky because you
have to like eat over a plastic and then
what do you do with the plastic you have
to take it outside and get rid of it
because you have humit in there and you
can't have KET in your house and um some
people eat it on the lobby and sweep it
up and then flush it down the toilet
whatever it is if you're in a hotel it's
not your problem
somebody else's problem so that
definitely adds to the to the situation
but of course and you have to wait until
say to be able to first start setting up
for the Seder and uh getting all of your
preparations done so um not so easy not
so easy so it's a good year to go away
but of course when comes out that a of
PES is shabas that of course is going to
affect porm
and that's what I wanted to talk about
today so this year is a very special
perm for everybody in the world except
for those of us in youram it means that
perm comes out on Friday now it
happened that we've had this a lot here
in yusim where it comes out on Friday
you've had it on Thursday and uh for you
it's not such a big deal but when it
comes out on Friday so it's as they say
in Hebrew big deal yeah because you're
not supposed to start a sud
after and people were like I have to do
my permit sua by 11 o'clock in the
morning and It's tricky because you have
to get out your sh you have to go to sh
you have to hear the Milla and then sit
down and have a big sud at 11 o'clock in
the morning I remember one year this was
happening in
America I was by Rabbi Foy sh so it's
like
Stark and um and he said people are
complaining why am I'm supposed to eat a
fles at 11:00 in the morning and he
looks at his watch and he says what time
is it now we're going downstairs to a
Kish no one has a problem eating uh you
know uh chicken nuggets and chop liver
and chant and it's 11 o'clock in the
morning so it's okay you can manage it
so you eat your suda uh early in the
morning and then you have to leave
yourself enough time obviously to bench
and to um
set up uh uh shabas and get all the food
set up and the table set and the candles
and everything that needs to go into
that and that's why one has to be
careful when it comes to drinking to you
know keep that in mind uh I was in
Yeshiva one year I won't mention where
when it came out on uh an Arab uh an AR
shabis
purm and um uh
and this guy got wasted and he slept the
whole shabas he just he was passed out
the whole shavas and he got up and he
was so proud of himself that he M she
did the
ad you know with with all
the and I said yeah that was great you
missed you missed having myma which is a
DI you miss three shabas which is a DI
you you missed Kish Friday nights s DEA
you uh you um missed daving krishma in
the morning yeah I said that was great
that was really really well planned out
there and um I don't know if he took the
mus or not but
uh I I put that in the category of
mistaken uh priorities the other thing
people do and it's a complic at Su how
you do it already they do
Parisa where they start their Pur suda
closer to shabas and then when chabas
comes in they cover the table with a
cloth s him and then they make
kidish and then they continue their perm
suda as their shabas
sud now
how this works Hally there are
complicated issues consult your uh poim
before you uh you do this on your own as
Mr Wizard used to say kids don't try
this at home it's a lot more complicated
than it might appear at first blush and
if you do decide to go that way then you
have to you know just be careful now we
had like I say Friday programs a lot of
times but when you the rest of the world
has Friday program we in in Yus not
even it's such a strange thing you know
when you really live in yush you really
only know that shush perm is perm
regular perm in is nothing not even
margish it if you put on one of these
fir radio stations you hear them playing
the per perm music and Etc and when we
have shushan and perm the rest of the
world they don't even think anything of
it yeah but we always celebrate shushan
purm here in yush the day after
where the rest of the world celebrates
Pur except on a year like
this when you end up with What's called
the P three-day
purm yeah how does that work well purm
comes out on chabas obviously if for the
rest of the world it comes out on Friday
then the 15th which is shushan PM comes
out on purm well you can't read the
Milla on chabas because we're someone
might carry it in a him so you're not
allowed to read it on chabas you can't
have your Pera on shabus
because um people will uh not understand
that it's a perm suda it just looks like
a shabas suda it doesn't look like a
special
suda um you maybe just a quick note on
this yeah
um when I uh
when I was a rebi in Yeshiva so I used
to have my talum over and the word more
or less went out that this was a good
place to be for
purm
um the the truth is it was a good place
to be when I had my bam over one of my
first years I had a whole bunch of
Seminary girls who called up and asked
to come I guess they thought it was
going to be a lot of fun the olsky house
we ended up with about 40
girls so we set up a whole bunch of
tables and me and my wife were just
running around serving the the suda the
whole time and eventually all the girls
just left because it wasn't fun well of
course it wasn't fun you all just sat
there while we ran around serving you
what exactly did you think was going to
happen and this Drew uh
Drew for me a
um a a clear understanding of when the
say sometimes when you have too many
guests none of the guests get any
attention whatsoever so I would have
over my shear and it would be very labor
dick and other people would drop in and
so we would have a purm where there were
people just every now and then I would
invite over some real people and they
were absolutely horrified I said who are
these people I said said I don't know
you know why are they in your house go I
don't know they just came per and after
perm ended so we used to do a fun Min
that we don't do anymore where all the
kids would bring all the shalas that we
had gathered together and we'd open each
shus and we try to learn you know what
was this person thinking you know um you
know sometimes people have a theme and
they write a whole poem up you know you
read the poem and then TR look at each
item and see what they're doing so okay
you know sometimes we understand the
theme was I really don't have time for
this sometimes the theme is
repackaging sometimes we get a repackage
shus they didn't even bother to take the
card out that the first person sent them
yeah sometimes we get our own shalak
Monas back
third fourth hand maybe third and fourth
hand you know but we'd open up each
thing and then we'd separate it you know
bottles um canned
goods um packaged cookies packaged uh
snacks you know um fresh cakes and
coules you know everything would go in
in different piles now I can't do that
because everyone comes in and they eat
the sh as soon as it comes in so there's
not enough left to bring together but as
we were doing it we would notice uh that
there was still some people here after
the permuda ended not in a state of
consciousness people were passed out in
our in our home in different
locations you know one year we we woke
up in the morning and there was still a
pregnant nun sleeping on the floor a man
pregnant nun I should point out so now
today in America that's not so strange
but back then it was still considered
Quite A Conversation Piece
so um so when when we say you have a
perm suda on chabas you wouldn't
recognize it that's not necessarily true
in our house but but but a lot of
people perm suda is just a a shabas meal
you know my in-laws yeah they would have
a they would have a perm suda that was
the same thing as any other shabas meal
except that they would put out a bottle
of wine you know and uh um I don't know
my brother-in-law would wear a funny hat
or something you know it's like you know
a lot of people have that that's what a
perm sua is it's just a regular suda you
know um always comes with a lot of Aon
yeah but in any event um so you can't
have you suda so you can't read the
Milla and you can't read the suda you
can't give out maton because you can't
give out money on chabas and besides
that the Anum come to Millis Esther to
look for
the so that's tied into Milla you can't
give sh shus is ideally something that
is supposed to be eaten at the perm
suda and that's why when people
distribute like you know these junk food
uh
shus they're they're cute and everything
but you know no one's going to eat it at
the Suda I mean you know ideally so I
always make uh uh two shalas you only
have to do one really but I always do
two shalak Monas that are real things
that could actually be used at the suda
you know one year I made like a roast U
sometimes they make a fruit platter yeah
something that I know people will
actually put out at their suda to uh to
try to do it at least have two of those
and then I have the uh the usual ones
yeah um I'm going to do something I
don't usually do because a I'm something
of a Crogan as you have known already I
uh I'm I'm really not a lot of
fun if I was in America i' would be the
old man in the shore walking around
saying who let the kids into the ksh who
left this over here why is this going
act why didn't they put back the Sid
durum you know like that's it's my my
nature I'm not a lot of fun so um um so
we used to make shalas when the kids
were little before they had any say
it and uh we had
hosin and um a little bottle of wine or
grape juice uh I'd put in an orange or
an
apple um I'd put in a some sort of a
candy bar or something and that was it
it was really very simple and whatever
the least expensive nice looking bag is
that I could find yeah that's uh
that's what I uh would do
shus um when I was growing up that's
what you did you you either baked a
humach on you bake some kind of cake and
you cut them up into little pieces and
you know and put them on a little plate
that very often sh was delivered on a
paper plate you know there was no
cellophane there was no h Easter basket
grass you know none of these things
happen so at some point when my kids
became old enough to have a say to my
wife because they knew it was a waste of
time to talk to me they insisted on
doing a theme and the theme of the Shas
had to tie into the costumes and into
the suda you know the decorations for
the
suda you know and they say to me ABA
what theme are we going to do I said I
have a great theme it's called purm
we'll have hin and we'll have wine and
this and they would roll their eyes at
me as they started doing at a very young
age I don't know how my kids figured
this out you know Israeli kids they
start with with this you know you say
things they don't like they do the the
shoulder you know not you know and then
they move up to
the exasperation and I had eight girls
you know like lot of exasperation
like so they would go after my wife
instead because she's a much easier than
Mark than I am so then we would have
themes and we'd have to do themes and
I'm gonna I'm going to um I'm gonna
change this year
right yeah I'm gonna come out in favor
of themes why
because um R shinberg had a safer of
mishar Shas I feel like I may have
mentioned this one year in the past I
don't remember if I did or not if I did
I'm repeating it it's uh it's it's my
option yeah I'm allowed to say something
more than once my gosh look at how many
people have like so little to say and
they've say the same things I remember
they said once about somebody he's a man
of few words but he uses them over and
over and over
again so I may have told this already
but shinberg had a safer called
Mish now in yeshivas they very often
would have a minig that people would
stay up late uh Thursday night and the
whole Yeshiva would stay up and learn
and so to um
Inspire different type of learning for
Thursday night and they would give
Refreshments of some type um
um usually chant which to my mind
doesn't really fit the criteria of
Refreshments but anyway um I don't think
it refreshes you I think it knocks you
out but all right in any event uh they
would give you a shot to work on during
the night so Mish are the different
mishas that he gave you know shinberg
would give out to the Yesa to work on so
I had the saer many many years ago and
one of the questions he asked is you
have a to give mat to give
sh right maton sh give mat give a
gift and uh the question is can I give
it
as now since after my T singer
video which is now as it happens my
number one video on YouTube how they
finally beat out the uh the Waterberry
boys I'm sorry of you Waterberry fans
out there better start clicking but um
beat it out uh surprisingly I've picked
up a um uh more of a non-jewish audience
I always had non-jews who used to watch
the show but apparently it increased
after that
video now that's not surprising to me
actually I'll tell you the truth because
there are times that I've spoken at
dinners in America and when I I get up
to speak and I'm looking at at the
audience I suddenly see that the waiters
all come in and are listening to my
speech so I have a certain Universal
appeal apparently yeah uh which is not
as interesting to me is the fact that I
have do IIT who watch this show I know
that for a fact and they tell me
afterwards K yeah
there so I say you spoke you speak
English you understand English they go a
little you know I know enough other
people say no I just enjoy watching you
[Laughter]
talk so I don't know um I'm just gonna
give a shout out over here because in
the early years of the podcast there was
somebody from the hearing impaired
Community who used to go over
the um the captions you know you could
for the hearing impaired there's a
button you can use on YouTube to be able
to get uh you know what I'm saying in
captions and he used to edit them
because they would come out in kinds of
crazy ways and I don't know where you
are I hope you're still watching and um
and uh please come
back but at any event
um so I'll explain this concept of
a this means that if I give you a gift I
can give you a gift on condition this
becomes yours if
you um will do this for me this becomes
yours if uh you don't uh use it in this
way this will come yours if whatever it
is make a condition so I say this is
your gift on condition that you give it
back to
me well I'm borrowing it no I did not
say I'm lending it to you I'm giving it
to you as a gift and it's fully yours as
long as you give it back to
me uh this comes up most often in Hal by
YULA VRI where on the first day of suus
because it
says it has to actually be yours so I
say can I borrow you a little of an estg
and I say no because if I lend it to you
it's not yours and you're not your say
the Mitzvah you have
to get it as a gift that it belongs to
you he says oh can you give it to me as
a gift and I said no you'll never give
it back to me I know you you low
life but I'll give it to you as
a which means it was only yours when you
did the Mitzvah on condition you give it
back to me and if you don't give it back
to me it was never matona it was never a
gift and therefore you never got to use
it okay okay that's a principle the
principle works now here's the question
I'm going to give you your
shus as a mat as long as you give it
back to me now that would save us all a
lot of time and effort because I only
have to make one shus and I bring it
around to everybody and I give it to
them and I take it back not this similar
to that scene in the Marx Brothers movie
I don't remember which one it was where
this fellow brings out a glass of
champagne on a tray and grouo says I'll
have that and says that's for Mr
Williams and he pulls out a $20 bill and
remember this was back in the 1930s you
know says you see this he goes yes sir
he takes it he drinks it he says come
back later and I'll let you look at it
[Laughter]
again that's maton right I'm not I'm not
giving it to you I'm just letting you
hold it then give it back to me so does
that work or not since technically it
works the conclusion he comes up with is
no because the purpose of shus is to
make
shom it's to create Ry
Brotherhood love and uh and togetherness
and if you give me something and take it
back before I have a chance to use it
then it's not
fun it does not draw us together you
technically did what you had to do but
it did not serve the purpose much as
these people who go around you're
supposed to ask forgiveness to everyone
that you've hurt before yum
ker so people go around with a broken
Spirit a contrite
heart and sometimes in sh and arim
Kipper and they go around to people who
they may know even that they may have
heard or said bad things about or done
things to and they
go are you
wow it's so sincere you forgive me you
forgive me you forgive me forgive it's
go right then you come to one of these
people that you're actually heard and
you say do you me says I don't know
because you never really apologized do
you I told you I don't know because you
never actually do you me that's it I
asked you three times now it's you yeah
so obviously that doesn't mean anything
what it means you aot when you ask the
person for forgiveness means you
actually went to the trouble of trying
to get their forgiveness not just I went
through something of rote so to over
here if I just give you a shal monus
without any particular meaning it's just
rote so it's the same thing over here
where uh since the underlying principle
of shus is to be you know
Shan then the more effort I put into the
shus in a way that's going to get you to
enjoy it if I can send you a shalak
monus that that that brings a smile to
your face in the process you know so
there was one year when the Israeli
elections uh came out right by
purm so we uh our sh was an
election
uh kpia a box was a white box we put the
little
uh the little symbol of the state of
Israel on the outside like an election
box and we put in something in the Box
to represent every political
party and um and we basically said okay
let's see if you can figure it out
people had a lot of fun trying to figure
out what each one was you know I
remember I put in some kind of a poer
thing you know explosive thing that was
for the Arab parties that's the only one
I remember for sure but um uh you know
it's a
um the idea that you know it's fun send
something that's fun that's enjoyable I
understand doing it in a way that
someone's going to enjoy it so okay I'll
come out in favor that so that's that's
shus so shus it's supposed to be eaten
at the suda so if you can't have the
suda on shabas you do it then so how
does this work what is the the technical
aspect so it works like
this pabas no question
pabas so um the only thing that you do
on uh shabas that has to do with purm is
you actually say
the the little prayer in benching and in
that's that's the only thing you do on
chabas
Al on chabas that's why there are many
that do not even print
Alim for in the uh the amas of chabas
because it only applies every now and
then in yush so they don't printed in
every sitter but okay that's what we do
we push the McGillis Esther back to
Friday because the PK and the Milla says
these are the days of the reading the
Milla you can't go before them or after
them so you cannot go after the 15th so
you push it back to the 14th so we read
mcgilla with the rest of the world which
uh is something of a downside because
one of the great things with celebrating
shushan
purm is that you don't go into purm
straight from Tinus eser because when
you go into a fast day you can't break
your fast until after Mill reading so
you walk into the mcgilla and you've
been fasting all day and these kids are
banging and making noise and shooting
cap guns and halfway through you don't
care about humming you want to kill that
kid you know so it's uh you know so
normally we do it on the day after so
we're not fasting anymore but uh this
year we have to read it with everybody
else we read the mcgilla at night and
during the day and we give out our
that's all on
Friday and that's all we do on
Friday and then shabas we say Alim and
then in a sort of counterintuitive way
we have the perm suda and shus on Sunday
now it makes it much easier because
normally you have to go to mcgilla
reading then you come back then your
wife has to go to Milla reading and then
she has to come back then you have to
start delivering shalas and then you
have to get the ready Etc and now
you just go to a regular dining just a
regular it'll be a Sunday morning dining
yeah and you can set up Yuda send out
your Shon it's calm as can be so I said
this once I remember speaking Yeshiva
and I said so we do the Milla and the
maton the gifts to the poor on Friday we
say Al on shabas and on Sunday we have
our po meal and Feast they call that sud
yeah Feast P feast and they send out the
shus the food
gifts and this one yes says and you're
drunk for 72 hours straight I said Okay
I I haven't seen that brought down
anywhere the drinking is really part of
the suda but um yeah okay I guess
so people people are mock B when it
comes to the drinking to make sure they
get it in on on every aspect of per but
it's uh a really unusual kind of a
situation A per Mish and it's so unique
that it's only here in yam that you can
even have such a thing so the last time
this came up I remember I did the theme
for my shalak monus three because it was
part of mish Mish means three part yeah
three I don't remember everything I had
I remember we had hin that was an easy
one three three corners I remember I
made three bean salad I don't remember
anything else that I did but um
[Music]
um I had all kinds of three things in
the theme and um yeah yeah a lot of fun
so uh so it's an unusual purm and it's
an unusual PES and it's a special year
and what can I tell you here in erel
especially um we've uh we had a rough
couple years and I think that there are
a lot of people who who could use some
extra s that comes with the perm spirit
and everything that goes with that and
so
uh it will be
a filled with a lot of happiness and joy
for
cville and that brings us to the
question and answer portion of our
program first question by Anonymous
please explain the
when aik was going to wipe us out it
says right which is what uh H plan to do
to us and therefore of course we have a
Mitzvah to wipe out a
m men women and children how do we
square that with Western values in
2025 you don't have to square that with
values in 202
5 uh the concept of genocide believe it
or not has not been considered socially
acceptable for
Millennia um the ramban says that the
reason that parro went to the m and told
them to kill the boys is because he was
afraid that the nation would Rebel if he
ordered all these babies to be thrown
into the
river because even the the Egyptians who
had made us subhuman and were beating us
and treating us in all these terrible
ways would uh would Quail at the idea of
genocide so apparently the concept of
genocide was something that would be
difficult even back
then
um M
Shapiro said in sheer once he says I was
in the middle of Mill zester and this
idea came to me suddenly hit me says H
does a a lottery that's why it's called
purm po is a lot right Lottery he does
lots to determine the best time to be
able to um uh destroy the Jewish people
and it comes out to the month of ader
and when it came out to the month of
ader he was
happy and says
M why was he happy it was
which is the first month of the Jewish
year and it wouldn't be wiped out until
Adu which is the 12th month so it's
going to take 12 months for you to
affect your plan why are you happy that
it happened
now and that's why by the way when morai
tells Esther to go into the king now he
says we have a whole year he says you go
in right now don't wait and that's why
he told the Jews to fast for three
days um before she went in and one of
those days was the Seder they didn't
have the Seder that year because they
were fasting but he said act immediately
he says why was he happy I came out to
Adu was so far away and he said because
he was afraid that the Persians would
not be comfortable with
genocide but give people enough time and
they can get used to
anything and uh things that were
considered
outrageous when Once Upon a Time giving
people enough time when Obama ran for
president he of course was opposed to
gay
marriage and um once he was in office he
decided to push it so he sent his Vice
President Joe Biden out to suggest it
and of course he received all of the
abuse what you know this that and he
just kept pushing the idea and then he'd
have other people push the idea until
finally he B Bally said as we say in
Israel you know people want people want
what can I do you know it's the voice of
the people because after a while people
get used to it you get used to anything
yeah and so
um so genocide has never been considered
uh you know something that is socially
acceptable in the world by any
society when it comes to a
mik um I they have to argue from the
position of
authority now some people ask this
question about the seven Canaanite
Nations that we're supposed to destroy
we don't have to destroy the Canaanite
Nations they can
leave we basically present them with the
following listen you guys are really
wicked I mean like super Wicked and um
you guys God has said your time is up so
if you want to be Wicked do not be
Wicked in the king's Palace go out
someplace else and if you leave we let
bygones be bygones and you can get out
of here and no one's going to do
anything to you and of the Seven Nations
the gear gashi said that sounds great to
us and they left and they went to Africa
where they got a beautiful land it says
and they survived the remaining Six
canidate Nations said go ahead let's see
what you're going to
do it's kind of stupid to say to people
who can drop the sea on top of you
did you hear about the 10 plagues you
know what you're dealing with over here
yeah so they but they had the option and
and we said basically the same option
that we have because God says if you're
evil I'm going to throw you out of my
land and if you stay you will be
destroyed
yeah yeah if you stay after you have
passed the point of evil you will be
destroyed so the seven kind Nation but
aik is not given an option we are
commanded to wipe them out from every
single
person because God says we make choices
in this world and the choices now this
is very important to understand we
believe that the choices that a person
makes just like there are physical
genetics There Are Spiritual genetics
and therefore you can affect your soul
in such a way that it's passed on to
your
children so I'll give you an example the
gamarra says how do you know if somebody
is a descendant of the original Jews
Abraham Y and yob or whether they're
descendant from uh the AR the mixed
multitude that came out of Egypt how do
you know you descended from it says a
Jew has three
qualities
yeah
um they're
merciful they have a sense of
Shame and they do kindness it's built
into their genetic
makeup it was so interesting in the
1980s I remember reading an a study in
Psychology today where there were they
found that two twins who were separated
at Birth I iCal twins if one was brought
up in a generous home and one was
brought up in a stingy home they were
either both generous or both
stingy it was genetic traits are are set
for us amalik decided to commit suicide
they were the first suicide
bombers they forced marched hundreds of
miles through the desert to attack the
Jews after the Red Sea just knowing they
were going to get killed just so they
could show everybody you can attack Jews
just to make Jew hatred
acceptable and until that point as it
says in the O Yos the song they sang
after the it says everybody was afraid
of us everybody was panicked nobody
would have ever touched the Jewish
people but after
AAL the example the kazal give is
somebody who throws themselves into a
boiling bathtub knowing they're going to
get school fed but they'll cool it off
for the next person they just wanted to
make it acceptable God said this is such
a hatred that is so inbred in these
people that they are going to destroy
you if you leave them they will destroy
you so shaik King Saul goes out to
destroy a Malik and he doesn't kill the
king of a
Malik he leaves that for schui to do and
when schw Nai comes in and founds out
that he didn't kill him he says you just
lost the kingdom cuz you're the king you
were supposed to do this and don't don't
save that night uh as a captive he
managed to get a hold of a woman and
have a impregnate her and had a child
and from that child came hon who almost
erased the entire Jewish
people and that's why it says people who
are merciful to the cruel end up being
cruel to the merciful
and so God told us trust me on this
one
yeah I uh I know this will get me off of
Nucky radio but uh I I'll give this
reference anyway I I was a trekky when I
was a kid U the original Star Trek in
the 1960s you know when I was a kid and
um so when the movies came out I see the
Star Trek movies so the
uh the I think it was the third one the
Search for
Spock so he ends as often happens he has
this big fight with the uh with the
Kling on you know captain and have a big
fight and the Clon guy falls off the
cliff and he's holding on and Kirk
reaches down and says give me your hand
now this guy's been trying to kill you
what is the point over here but this is
what the hero always does it's like when
you see those scenes with the sword
fight and he knocks the sword out and he
like lets him go and gets it you know
tosses it back you tosses it back his
thing to continue the fight because I
don't want to win that way you know
which is absolutely
ridiculous that's why and get smart they
did a take over on that where he knocks
out the sword and he goes you know I
will give you back your sword and he
lifts it up and he tosses it to him and
it goes right through his arm
and he says sorry about that but anyway
so he goes give me a hand and the guy
grabs his hand and tries to pull Kirk
down the side of the cliff with him so
he braces himself and starts to kick the
clung and saying I've had enough of
you because that's what you're supposed
to do when the enemy is there you don't
extend your hand and say quick let me
give you a second chance to kill me yeah
and so um by a mik this is I'm arguing
from a position of authority God said
these people if you do not destroy them
they will destroy you take my word for
this I am God you know I've been here
forever this is the whole discussion of
Baby Hitler if you can go back in time
and kill Baby Hitler would you do it you
say well he hasn't done anything yet
says okay how many millions of people do
you need him to kill before you kill him
so that sometimes by doing something
that appears cruel it's actually
something that is going to save many
lives and that is our idea better to De
blow up the hisbah people with their
beepers to blow up the hisbah leadership
than to leave them to keep killing
people and if you read the history of
the atrocities that hisbah has committed
you know you do better to be able to
destroy the evil and in fact that's what
perm is about PM is a celebration of our
victory over Amal Tinus Esther which is
not like any other fast day is we're
going out to battle against the Malik
and when you go out to battle you're
fasting that's why we do that and then
the purm is the celebration of the
victory over it and that's it for this
episode if you want to find out more
