Hi, this is David Olawsky wishing
everybody a freilichen Purim
or a freilichen Shushan Purim.
Uh for all my usual lion friends.
And uh I hope you enjoy the day.
Remember
uh
drink responsibly
uh if at all. Remember the Rama says you
just have to drink a revi'is of wine,
which is 3.3 oz since it's a mitzvah ad
d'rabbonan according to Reb Moshe
Feinstein. And uh then take a nap for a
half an hour. So um
uh you you don't have to drink ad d'lo
yada. You're sleeping, so you don't
know. Yeah.
The Be'er Heitev says you have to drink
enough so that you can't work out that
Baruch Mordechai and Arur Haman is the
same in gematria. So for most people
that's just a sip cuz they can't work
out the math anyway.
>> [snorts]
>> So let's remember what the mitzvahs uh
hayom are. At night
there's a mitzvah to hear the Megillah.
And
there is the Mishnah Berurah says
mitzvah of seudas Purim.
Some sort of seudah.
Parenthetically, if you keep regular
Purim, there's a mitzvah also of seudas
Purim on Shushan Purim.
If you keep Shushan Purim, it's a
mitzvah of seudas
uh
seudah on regular Purim.
Um
and then during the day you have to hear
the Megillah.
And from a kosher clock.
Yeah. Not to be confused with a kosher
clock, which is the little thing that
holds your little lift together.
You have to give out shalach manos.
Two different uh brochos
to
one person.
You only have to give to people, one
person.
Um matanos la'evyonim, enough
uh
money
right? Two coins to two aniyim. They
have to go to two aniyim.
Uh I heard a posek say once
uh
what is considered enough? He says,
"Well, ideally it's supposed to be used
towards their
um towards their seudah.
So,
uh
you have to give enough to He He gave an
example of like to buy a shawarma.
Now it be. Now whether it means a
shawarma in a pita or a shawarma in a
lafa or whether it means a chatzi
chatzi, I'm not getting that involved.
Yeah.
And matanos l'evyonim.
And uh you should try to find somebody
reliable.
And it's not supposed to be just to
aniyim. It's supposed to ideally goes to
evyonim.
And that's why this Brisker guy says to
his friend, he says, "I found mamash an
evyon, like the poorest of the poor.
I saw him. He's living on the street in
a cardboard box. He mamash has nothing."
He says, "This is terrible. We should
help this poor guy." He says, "What?
Then I won't have him for next year."
>> [laughter]
>> And of course, mitzvas seudah.
Yeah.
Um the drinking is a din in the seudah.
It is not a din
uh
stam.
And Reb Moshe Shmuel made this very
clear. There is no mitzvah to drink at
night. And the mitzvah to drink is wine.
Ideally, not alcohol. Because as the
Avudraham says, all the nisim took place
at a seudas yayin. And wine is uh
considered uh you know, the ideal. And
yayin begematria is 70, which is the
same as sod, nichnas yayin yotzei sod,
etc. So, um
those are the mitzvos. And uh remember,
it's you know, to make shalom bayis ish
u're'eihu and uh to bring happiness and
simcha. And so, im yirtzeh Hashem, all
of us will
fulfill the mitzvos correctly.
I know some people will always get
depressed on Purim cuz they feel the
pressure of being happy.
And it just depresses them. Don't think
about it. Just
don't worry, be happy.
Purim Sameach, everybody.
