welcome to the raviolo ski show and our
special raviolo ski base F program this
is number four and our Pesach programs I
hope your cleaning is moving along I
hope you're finding some of these ideas
worthwhile now whether you're listening
on tour anytime or whatever platform
you're listening or watching by happy to
have you on board for this special
Pesach program and in the last podcast
we were talking about how to maximize
your Pesach Seder experience and we said
as much as you can prepare beforehand
prepare beforehand ask people their wine
preferences and I have it in the fridge
if it's wine that gets refrigerated make
sure you have enough grape juice on hand
you'll find it worthwhile to have if you
have the room a couple of little tables
around to keep things on that you need
because the table itself there are a lot
of different how God does I'm not gonna
recommend any because I'm not current I
haven't I haven't been keeping up there
are hundreds probably thousands of how
good is out there and how do you how do
you find the one now personally I like a
Haggadah with the least commentary and
the most instructions because I'm using
it I wanted to use I don't have time now
to learn the hot good that I should have
done that before you that's why this is
phenomena where people have these these
books or sperm with pollution that they
dive in from but they're not doubling
their learning you know Burke I thought
read
hello que no lo que ever say no it's
just that's a definite yeah that's not
the time to do it you have to do that
beforehand and the same thing with the
Seder go through whatever hugger does
you like jot down the four o'clock that
you want to say over or the idea is that
you want to share to me it's better to
offer up questions or short observations
because you have to pace your sailor you
can't spend 20 minutes on a lock mine
you kill halacha Manya yeah yeah
everybody everybody's sitting in then
Bnei Brak good to say there would be
given me time for that you can't do that
you have to know what you're saying and
how to keep it moving it has to keep
moving now you spirits show that they
would change the clock before Yom Kippur
and they would change it back before
Pesach you had an abbreviated amount of
daylight savings time but the answer is
obvious if you changed the clock before
Yom Kippur then Yom Kippur ends at five
instead of at 6 and the Pesach Seder
will start at 6 instead of at 7
depending on it yeah some like best
successor so the secular people are we
saying you're taking where I daylight
savings time it's what I enjoy more
summer time what time to go it gets
talked to early and they said so why the
firm Kippur goes out at six or five it
doesn't make a difference you're fasting
for 25 hours anyway so where are we
religious Knesset member said I can tell
you've never fasted on Yom Kippur
because everyone knows that last hour is
the longest hour but never advantage is
that at five is that ever six makes a
big difference yeah and the Pesach Seder
if it starts earlier it makes it much
easier especially for the children
there's worthless advice I will share
with your worthless advice I'm 60 now so
I've I've
had some experience yeah here's one of
the worthless piece of advice that
people give you make sure your children
nap during the day
I never pays off oh yeah that's gonna
happen you know everybody's in their
nightgowns in their pajamas in their bed
poking our heads out of the door you
know go to sleep guys that no one wants
to sleep with ever face up there's
something exciting in the air you know
is it something it's something that's
that's fun yeah especially hearin and
it's show where we have straight first
corner to face off and it's totally
supervised by kindergarten children yeah
they're the ones who are out there
making the fires and you know throwing
the gasoline no joke it's really serious
it is a bit it is a bad thing yeah
children should not be running fires
that's that's me
but anyway so then I'm ready to go to
sleep it's not it's not I don't think
it's really realistic so the earlier can
start to say - the better so I know a
fine table cloth from Russia schewe and
he started something here in my
neighborhood of her know if you can make
kiddush it's a circle of him that means
you can dive in before it says a Cohutta
and there's a prima Gotham in two places
which says his buffet which and so he
started on pace of night like people
make early Shabbos an early yontiff
minion and he said leave yourself enough
time Davin Davin my roof enough time to
make a beautiful hollow with all the
singing you want and then wish everybody
a good yontiff go home set everything up
gather everybody around the table and
you can even start the early parts of
the Seder until kiddush you can see well
it's not much but you know get everyone
there so that when when say Sakhalin
comes you're ready to start this is a
little radical one rough called me a
reform Jew but this
this because this is their minute and
I'm not posturing I'm not that kind of a
rabbi you know there's three types of
smoker this RAV amnon ik well you can
call yourself rabbi is ya're ya're where
you study the laws of Cassius and this
yard where you study the laws of motion
is part of monetary lawyers etc I
studied your idea I know the laws of
Cassius pretty well so sometimes people
bring me there to fill in and say is
this kosher and I say I don't know drop
it in a pot of chicken soup and I'll
tell you what to do I'm not that kind of
a rabbit so I'm not asking it but this
fellow showed me his rye is disgusted
with me and we coordinated with the
people coming to the Seder and we dove
in we do this I'm not saying you sure
that you shouldn't but you understand I
cannot begin to tell you how this
changes the nature of the place of
saying it for me I can tell you my
family feels the same way and I know the
meaning keeps growing every year
there's more and more people I have some
very shoes people who come to this very
important people I don't want to mention
their names again because I don't know
if they want to publicize but when you
can start the Seder at at taste coke
oven when the stars come out when it
gets dark you see like I say if you go
to a regular shop so they first wait
till after the taste of coke oven to
start Maya and that's assuming that you
again I know how it works in America
because here a psycho Haim is either 20
or 25 minutes after unless you - it's
late of it but but they subdued keep 20
minutes something give 25 so they first
start darling then that's assuming the
guy who was given the speech didn't go
over time and he always does so so now
you first do it and of course it's a
young diff diverting as it should be and
then they sing holla holla and then by
the time you get on me
you've lost you've lost over an hour
sometimes an hour and a half of prime
satyr time without an early it is it was
a game-changer certainly for us you have
to see if that works for you now I want
to tell you something so interesting I
was teaching this over it or Samara
about how a person should make the
preparation so you can start on time and
maximize what you can the experience
that guy says what do you need so much
time for it how long is it take to read
that how good right
my father had a particular hagatha and
all Haggadah i got it's my Arusha and
here it is a Gerda shall pass on and he
could read from the beginning to the
meal in 20 minutes and I have to tell
you I didn't find that it actually added
that much to the appreciation of that
other Marie Josie the Galilean says how
does one calculate that the Egyptian you
see ten plagues in Egypt will receive 50
plagues in the sea what does the writ
say concerning Egypt and the magician
said unto Pharaoh it is the finger of
God and what does it say consenting to
say in Israel so the great hand which
the Lord laid upon the Egyptians and the
people fear the Lord and believe no one
knows that is sir
how many places receive it by one finger
of ten plagues hence they receive ten
plagues an agent for the boys think it
really as it says how do we know that
each plague would say other one etcetera
etcetera very quick very quick but I
don't know that it made for the greatest
relevance and like I say that's what we
have to shoot for it so I want to
maximize the amount of time so I was
speaking in Orissa man and the student
says what's you know you know it's just
it's a cultural phenomenon the Seder
yeah you're gonna read a little bit and
a little bit of the story sing a couple
songs then use it's basically it's a
festive meal that's what the say there
is and it's not I want to point this out
the Seder is not a commemoration it's a
recreation
it has a purpose all right very first
thing we do with the Seder and that's
the reason when I said we started early
yeah we want to give the maximum amount
of time to get the most out of this
experience and you have to plan it right
so you don't get stuck what's the first
thing you do with the Seder and I'm not
everybody does this but we certainly do
we sing that little song Kadesh rakaats
carapace yeah thoughts maggie'd rasa
mode see he mats uh seems like one bit
really to my roar go Rafe Chauhan all
right
seems like too but it's really one so
fun bar a howl near it's uh who sings
the table of contents have you ever seen
that you might take a book so it's a
gonna get cave oh god that's so people
say to me well we're gonna review what
we're gonna do we're gonna do why don't
we do that on Yom Kippur it's much
longer with many more steps yeah
oh the all the things that go through it
what do we what are we reading this for
so you know the problem is every time I
come up with a technological or an
example is based on technology when the
technology changes you know it's left
behind so there was it was a time when
there was no ways waz which of course is
a sniff tea program that where's their
phone now and they plug in how to get to
wherever is it going to go and ways
tells them exactly how to go and
sometimes seems like Waze is taking us
the wrong way we've we know how to get
around this doesn't seem to make any
sense but the algorithm that that Waze
is based on is that if you cross them
then they rearrange traffic so they slow
you down and that's why you ever wonder
you can subscribe to ways and then you
can
alerts and you get points what are you
do those points they will reroute
traffic away from you when you're
driving that's how it works
yeah they control the it's scary really
but anyway so now it's waste enough to
you don't need anything it's like if you
ask somebody someone's phone no but
nobody knows that his phone number they
get it they put it on their phone and
they don't know if they lose their phone
they don't know anybody's phone about
yeah so so before there was ways so
there was a GPS it was like ways only
didn't control the actual traffic it
just told you how to get there
before that it was you could go to
google and you would put in your
starting point and ending point and it
would print you out a list of directions
sometimes it was a little ridiculous you
know step one pull out of your driveway
step two go down the street yeah three
mega right yeah these are available and
all English languages by the way you
know you can get these GPS that's
speaking Hebrew but it's different it's
different you know
because sometimes I know the ways is
telling me the wrong thing what the GP
has done the wrong thing and I I turned
down the street and it goes
recalculating recalculating yeah the
Hebrew one is different
Martin Samantha mishegoss I met him with
Domino's if our guess is evil mighty
glad to come out Kelowna Nicholas
Israelis really to a bed but you had a
list of directions so okay we're gonna
talk a little bit about column Oh ADA at
the end of our series but but I don't
know if it still happens but when I was
in America so it was required by law
that every religious family on column OE
regardless of the weather and if you
lived anywhere in the tri-state area had
to go to great adventures in Six Flags
in New Jersey right so those who don't
go
so you print out a list of directions
tells you go down here make it right
over here get onto this highway here
etcetera etcetera and a list of 15 steps
in order to be able to get and the final
destination is you have arrived at safe
Flags great adventures Jackson New
Jersey imagine that a person follows the
first ten steps he gets to the 195 and
he says you know what kinegg I felt 10
of the 15 steps and I had two-thirds of
the experience of going to great
adventures ridiculous you didn't have
any of the experience because you never
arrived at your destination
kadesha rakaats is telling us that we
are arriving at a destination there is a
purpose to the seder
there is if you will a seder to the
seder
there is an order to the different steps
and to what we are attempting to
accomplish we have to get to the end
there are many people from people whose
seder ends at the meal maybe Burak or
maybe they even bench and that's what
they've done
hello it's all kind of stuff you know if
there's a couple of Fermi's they're like
okay you guys have me mine yeah I had
enough ready so you almost got two great
adventures you didn't have the
experience who wants to miss out on that
especially when it's raining in 30
degrees outside 40 degrees that's it you
want to miss the opportunity of
cointegrated vengeance with tens of
thousands of other firm people and
screaming children were all lost
well we're too cheap to buy the food so
they were left in the lockers outside
and they have to walk three miles just
to the authorities
or you could buy the food inside of the
practice but she'll coach lipase our
food and get a frankfurter for $35 bag
of potato chips for $25 a can of soda
for $18 so uh you know who wants to miss
out on that experience and then you get
to wait on long lines to be able to get
into a machine that will strap you in
and hurl you upside down backwards in
the dark a hundred miles an hour
that's the idea of a good time I live in
you shall I'm I can just get into a cab
and have the same exact experience I
don't have to wait on line for it yeah
but it's a there's a there's a sense of
arriving at a destination there's a SATA
to the Sager it's set up in a particular
way it's supposed to take us someplace
so that's why in order to be able to
arrive at a destination or to get
someplace we want to accomplish
something and that's why we need the
maximum amount of time and awake time
not where we're rushing through since we
started this we haven't rushed through
the meal we can eat the meal like like
mentioned and we can talk and learning
and sing songs whenever anybody wants to
do you have that terrific option to be
able to do so so like I say I'm not here
to pass queue for anybody but if you
have a local authority and you can find
that this might be a good option it's
something that you should perhaps
consider okay so we want to leave
ourselves max from time we want to try
to be able to to capture as much of this
as we possibly can you saw when I
counted there were 15 steps 15 steps
leading up to the base of mikdash
coincidence I think not 15 share Molly's
the reason of 15 is because it's a gamma
trio the numerical value of the name of
God cup the yurt and the hey that spell
God's name you'd represent shamayim and
hay represents our
that's where heaven and earth come
together that's the base Simek dish
you'd also represents ish man and the
hay represents Asia woman and when the
two of them joined together that's also
represented by the number 15
hence Slovo mela decorated the base of
mikdash with pictures of couples
embracing don't try this in your
synagogue even if it's very liberal it
doesn't go over so well today but he
understood that the base of mikdash was
a place where Claudius RAL the Jewish
people and God came together like an ish
and an issue like a man and woman in a
certain level of love to become one and
that's why we go through the steps of
the Seder and the last level is called
near it's our we are desired by God FR
add me a day ya ever Danny a day yeah
and final okay new and look into I look
into a locator well okay new shared by
every birds and we keep going up who
knows 10 I know 10 ten on the did Bruce
and 9 to the months for babies born in
eight of the days before Britain 7 the
days of the week and 6 of the books of
the Mishnah and 5 of the books of the
Torah and four in the Mamas and 3 of the
Papas and 2 of the loofahs that Moshe
brought in one is a sham what is a sham
what is a sham and the heavens and the
earth and we keep going until we reach
number 13 who knows 13
I know 13 13 are the divine attributes
and then we go back down
couldn't find a 14 I found the 14 the
Ornette which is the publication that's
put out a weekly basis by horas man once
did this where they said okay who knows
14 and people who suggested 14s and 15s
and 16 yeah you could go if you wanted
to we stopped it 13 says Patricia
Shapiro this
that we end the Seder because 13 is the
numerical value of a hood of one and
it's also the American value of Ahava of
love because that's how we end the Seder
we've gone through our steps the 15
steps going up to the base of McNish to
come to that place where there is lava
and effort where we become one with a
kurdish protocol that is what we do at
the Seder night and so there is a minik
you find it printed in many Agatha's at
the end to say sure sure
what is your sister come I come I am
Zucotti love fastener is clueless are
you a famiiy
loser
[Music]
thank you very much how you followed me
into the desert like a color that loved
that client so I had that's what Pesach
is that is she Reshiram the love between
a husband and his wife yeah the love
between a class on the Jewish people
that is the pace of seder it ends with
neared sir that is the goal that's what
we're trying to achieve to achieve that
love to feel that closeness that cutters
powerful tremendous power tremendous
power that we have on the Pesach night
yes it no the next night we start
counting ferrous armor and you know they
have different levels
cirrus levels first one is custom sugar
cousin pace up starts off it's the
ultimate expression of Cresson our has
said custard new right tests of God the
kindness of God how he took us out of
Egypt and that's what we're
encapsulating at the Pesach Seder and if
we miss this we missed the destination
we got to some rest stop in New Jersey
not that that doesn't have its own
individual charms yeah goodbye a little
glass that says New Jersey on and stuff
but but that's of course not taking us
to our goal and the Seder is a seder
it's supposed to be taking us someplace
and in my house near it sir is always an
occasion in fact in past years when our
kids friends as they would finish their
satyrs or other people they finish
Thursday's now we finish a little
earlier because we start right on time
but as their sailors when end they would
all come to our house so that they could
be there for narrator we give out parts
so Cod got John mu
so that you know you have to keep a
coordinated yeah for other moms and
three of the pups and - oh we gotta keep
it moving
my people forget their parts yeah great
question my mother yeah she used to he's
gonna say - and you know they say don't
listen she stays for like - I know that
she can't take anymore she's too weak
she goes back to her room man when she
would cut to say with us she was there
till the end and her less later we
finally gave her a part if I'd got you
she had she had the neox yeah I said to
my mother had her poo - sounds to get to
do it's very very anyway in fact you
know I haven't done any clips for my for
my 60th birthday in a while but you know
we have the at the end the mother
Mother's comes so here's a little clip
for you just to see that laughs key I
came for you no one let me take you
everybody still need you keep lighting
up the world but in 60 years
I'm gonna get you and that's it we we
are gonna spend time preparing for the
Seder to make sure that we are
maximizing this experience you have to
think how can I make this enjoyable fun
relevant a a experiential time that
relives that recreates we don't say at
the beginning but the end I have called
them lyricist hot smoky listen I am and
we make the oh brother that we you know
who took us out of Egypt it's only the
end of the Seder because if you Seder
was effective then it will take you out
of Egypt okay that's it for this time if
