rabbi olowski
show whether you're watching with our
friends Ator any time whever you watch
or listen to your podcast as always
happy to have you along for the
experience and we'd like to thank our
sponsor for this
episode hi Rabbi I want to support your
cause as I recall your classes with
Nostalgia and warmth very good the
ability to simplify the esoteric words
that seem so beyond our everyday lives
and somehow with humor and wit and
sincerity made it relevant to the
present day reality thank you so much I
enjoyed your banter with your son
schlomo all the best sippy Schiller
thank you so much and uh it should be a
for you and your family and all good
things uh in your life and those for
your loved ones in the of being Marb to
theim yeah and uh as they say don't
forget to like share and
subscribe or subscribe like and share I
don't know subscribe sh I don't whatever
it is do those
things it helps with the algorithm
yeah
okay uh so we've mentioned in the last
few podcasts uh different ideas from the
that the Torah is
NI and uh
you know there's uh 48 different things
that a person needs to work on in order
to be ma they have to develop certain
character
traits um two of them
are that's like the second one and emth
which means you got to learn how to
listen learn to
listen now uh people are so busy
talking that they don't have
a chance to
listen and uh it's so important to
people that they be heard I heard once
from a psychologist that most of the
work that I do would be unnecessary if
people just had a good friend to listen
to them but uh people don't know how to
listen and when people do listen they
very often hear what they want to hear
yeah he's as blind as he can be just
sees what he wants to see isn't he a bit
like you and me yeah so people people
have a tendency to walk away having
heard what they wanted to hear and uh uh
it's it's
sad means you have to listen to hear
what's being said I have to be honest
you have to be honest and uh therefore
there are people people who come in with
preconceived notions and ideas and
everything that they hear fits into
their
pre-acceptance and they said it's t says
that wasn't the question I asked you
tell me why it's to I know why it's why
it's t it says so give me give me
reasons why you should be T think
outside of the box think outside of your
comfort zone and uh as is so often the
case people
uh uh only like to hear what agrees with
them yeah and uh and so they
especially today when the news is so
stratified so if you're conservative you
listen to Fox News if you're a liberal
then you listen to
MSNBC if you're just a very confused
person you listen to CNN but um both of
you anyway but but the point is that
people like an echo chamber they like to
hear what
uh what they are comfortable with they
they want to hear the same ideas
repeated back to them and when you tell
them things that are different they're
not really sure what to do with it uh so
either they'll just completely ignore it
you know I'll never forget when Trump
was running in
2016 trying to get the Republican
primary and no one gave him a chance and
you know one of his techniques where he
you know would come up with these
nicknames for people that would stick so
on Ted Cruz you know he came with the
name lion Ted lion
Ted and uh I remember seeing this clip
where Ted Cruz was uh talking to a uh to
a group of apparently Trump supporters
and they just keep going lion Ted says
tell me one thing I've lied about lion
Ted no no I know I I I know the name
tell me what I've lied tell me one thing
I've Li about lion
Ted that's it I don't I don't have to
move outside of that you know because
I'm comfortable with what I have already
heard and I don't want to hear another
point of view so uh there was a clip
that I saw recently which was I found it
tremendously frightening uh Glenn yunan
who's the governor of Virginia came to a
university to speak and a whole whole
bunch of students walked
out they walked out right in front of
him you're so frightened to hear anybody
else's
ideas and universities today they have
to provide safe spaces for kids that
they shouldn't hear different
ideas the idea of being able to hear the
opposing point of view is too
frightening it threatens me I don't want
to hear anything that's outside of my
comfort
zone um and I had mentioned this
beforehand that the first of the 48
things is talmud which means you have to
be a person of learning you have to be
curious you have to want to hear what
you know to learn everything and then
com which means listen to what the
person is saying as opposed to you
superimposing what you are already
believe and already think on what the
person is
saying I I'm nature a curious person and
so uh when I was in the process of
becoming from I would speak to reform
and to conservative I would speak to
Christians I would speak to anyone I
could who could speak about Islam or
Buddhism or Hinduism I was curious let's
see what they have to say and let's hold
it up as much as I can to The Cold Light
of reason and see how it fits in and I
remember once I was with Usha
who had been a Baptist Minister before
he converted and he was asking him a
bunch of cases on uh Christianity and he
looked to me he says you don't get it
you're looking for the Christian
talud there's a verse over here in Mark
that says like that but there's another
verse in Luke that says like that a it's
a stea how do we answer that because it
doesn't work that
way that's not how they that's not how
they study religion you know and that's
why uh in Catholicism What's called the
infallibility Doctrine which means the
pope is always right all right what if
he's wrong can't be because he's always
right but if I can prove he's wrong
can't be because he's always right yeah
whereas a
uh many Russia Yeshiva have been giving
a shear and somebody asked the Casher
and slugs them up and they they just
stop the shear and don't even that you
have in
gar yeah we we we he's wrong well we're
not afraid we're not afraid to debate
ideas I've lived in aritel now for over
years and
unfortunately so many people in
Israel exist inside of a
box they don't know how to think outside
of their box and everybody will play the
role that has been assigned to them
Benji LaVine used to do this whole
oneman act where he would play different
characters in Israeli society and they
were caricatures but
unfortunately a lot of people are
caricatures I'm sorry to say it I'll
give you an example
right Ario Chiron when he decided to
pull out of Gaza and we see how well
that worked right and throw whole bunch
of Jews out of their houses he had been
part of the settler community and he
knew how they thought and they played
their role to Perfection and he said
we're going to come and we're going to
throw you out of the house and they all
came in and they said no it's going
Civil War we're going to fight for our
homes we're gonna do this we're do that
and he said oh look at this they're
threatening War this next thing and
everybody fell right into the Trap
because he knew what everybody was going
to say before they said it cuz everybody
fits into a predefined box and you know
what they're going to say and you know
what they're going to do it's it's it's
very hard to get people to move outside
of their comfort zone here so at the
time uh somebody had asked me about it
and I said I could stop the hitn not C
tomorrow it just require people to move
outside of their comfort zone he says
what would you do I would call a press
conference and have all the heads of
yesha and they would say we moved here
because the government asked us to We
Built Homes we built businesses we
fought Wars our people have been killed
in terrorist attacks we have buried our
dead because the government asked us to
and now if the government is asking us
to leave we will leave we will dismantle
our homes we will up our dead we'll take
apart our businesses and we'll
leave just you're not going to throw us
in the street we're loyal citizens we
moved here because you asked us to we'll
leave if you want us to just build us
new communities that we can move
to they wouldn't have had new
communities for them to move to for 10
years because that's the way the
government
works till they would find a location
and then you negotiate about the
location and then yeah how how many
houses you going to build and who's
going to get them and how is it going to
work and just but but come to the point
of view where you're approaching the
country as we're reasonable we're loyal
citizens just you're not going to throw
us on the street and everybody would
agree to that but Chiron knew he
wouldn't have to do that because all you
have to do is make a statement and he
knew everybody would say We'll Fight
we'll this we'll that you know and uh
you know uh there'll be somebody like
screaming at the at the at the camera
you know and yelling you
know you
know Sister screams and he knows exactly
their caricature
right curious
Joel uh had their own um it was
a basically cidic town and they had
their own school district and the City
of whichard was a part of wanted to do
away with their school
district okay make a demonstration
scream yell that's not what they did the
satma showed up at the public school and
said we're coming to enroll our children
since you want to close down ours we
have 10,000 children where do we sign
so they're like you know what maybe you
guys should uh keep your own
uh your own School District but you know
think outside of the box be a little
more creative yeah so the issue of
drafting Yeshiva students has gone on
for years and years and years and the
only one who I ever heard say it was AA
when Ela was in uh was in the knesset
and uh he uh he was he had the Bells
seat you know and uh he said no problem
if they pass this law we'll all come all
of us and enroll in the Army you know
40,000 uh and just like you take the
secular you demand you take us all
40,000 of us put us in right
now the Army doesn't want them everyone
knows this is just a political thing
during the uh Rabin Administration when
Meritt was pushing very hard you know
one of the generals a secular General he
says do you want these guys in your army
do you guys want them in your bunk and
they'll be telling you you can't listen
to this and you can't watch that he says
if they force me to draft Yeshiva guys
I'll build a big base medish and stick
them in it because that's where they
belong and all the secular students
cheered the soldiers they don't want him
either but that would require you to
move outside of your comfort zone here's
my little box I am a k and this is what
I say you know I am a settler this is
what I say I am leftwing this is what I
say and everybody gets locked into their
own place and they can't think outside
of the
box this is all by way of
introduction because um
I uh try as a rule to stay away from
controversy if I can that doesn't mean I
won't say things that are controversial
but very often I don't even realize
it so when I did the episode dealing
with the concept of yut I knew I would
get hate meal because there are certain
people who cannot listen they don't know
how to listen to any view that's
different than their own they are locked
in a perspective and that's what they
say I was uh in the Boston
sh 30 something years
ago and was ym
and they weren't saying Hollow and these
two fellows there two American guys were
saying could you believe it you know
they get all this help from the
government and they won't say h and that
you know a terrible thing no
appreciation no
ACC so I said to them Why'd You Come to
Daffin here on your matmut you know they
don't say hello here it was convenient
says that's how much your matmut means
to you you go to a SCH that's more
convenient for you knowing that they're
not going to say Hollow when you so
someone said shushing me so okay I
stopped but
you know we're locked we're locked into
I say Hal you don't say Hal why don't
you say Hal stop people on the street
acost them and
argue so I gave uh what I tried to be as
evenhanded a presentation as I could
about the different views and I got some
responses and some of them uh well I a
number of them were along these lines I
always enjoyed your humor and my
children love Torah life so I was eager
to hear what you had to say in this
controversial subject in any event I
wanted to tell you that I appreciated
your honest and informative
presentation that's all I I I I'm just
trying to present the views this is what
the Dai think this is what mainstream K
thinks this is what the uh more extreme
elements of
think this is what the secular think you
know and uh and and just try to present
them
uh is somebody else wrote like this
loved your a podcast last week on
Israeli holidays in this time period you
mentioned Rabbi Kito writes about these
days I looked it up and did not find it
in
say yeah so I can't find my Hebrew
one I found my English book of The
Heritage Volume three he begins talking
about it uh assuming you have this
version on page
19 and throughout he has uh presents the
different uh ideas many others see the
fifth of er as possessing all the
qualities of a Jewish National holiday
which characterizes the other Jewish
festivals prescribe of the tor in the
sages and he goes on others considering
these and other questions regard the
fifth of the year as a sorrowful day
they question your genuin of the new
Independence as he is distracting from
the longing and then it goes he keeps
going back and forth arguments and
counterarguments yeah on and
on and uh
uh what does it mean the government of
non-believers yeah and therefore he goes
on and on so he's presenting the points
of view that's what I attempted to do
whether I did it as well as I could if I
don't know I don't know but that's
that's what I said out to do now here's
someone coming from the other side I got
a couple of these I would have expected
from you a person that made Aliah with
all the challenges and difficulties that
you would be a perfect Zionist but no
just the opposite you are objective
truthful and right to the point I'm
really
[Laughter]
impressed um
I I don't know what you mean by a
Zionist a Zionism means that the Jewish
people should be as the bord Declaration
says to be able to establish a Homeland
in the in in the land of Israel I am
very in favor of that I think that's a
great idea you know and uh and I think
that's for sure true I was just
discussing the halic issues of Hal the
idea of moving Hal to a different day I
was talking about you know uh the moment
of s for the siren I I I was discussing
the issues as much as I could I wasn't
trying to you know Force One view
forward uh as opposed to another I was
trying as much as possible to be
objective and that's why when I get
these kind of things yeah it makes me
wonder so one guy wrote uh King Hezekiah
ended up not being the Messiah because
he didn't say the hollow with a blessing
therefore this generation must fix this
wrong and do as R cook saying the hollow
would the blessing on this day of the
huge miracle and reestablishment of the
Jewish nationhood as declared in all
prophecy well of course of cook did not
say Hal because the state was uh created
after he died um and nobody is denying
that when there was a miraculous
salvation you should say Hal as I
mentioned the M Yeshiva when the bomb
fell on the Yeshiva and didn't explode
they say Hal I'm not arguing about that
the only argument is whether or not an
actual Miracle took place on the fifth
of ER or not and that like I say read
the he goes through all the different
things
yeah here's another one like I say
people love to be locked into their
their usual mindset and just can't move
out of it you don't mention that there a
great rabbis that support saying Hal
with or without a br out of H reasons
yeah I did I said if you poim tell you
to say Hal say Hal if you poim tell you
don't say Hal don't say Hal go and
follow your Rabbi I made that clear I
don't know why he's saying this because
I didn't mention names The Only Name I
really spent time on was R salivic and
that's because somebody lied to my face
about it you know and uh and and I felt
that it was necessary to clarify that
issue because I had to go and look into
it myself because I didn't know people
just assume thatal said halan on yasm
when in fact he was against it so that's
the only reason I went into
him um you present it as if all the H is
against it no I'm not besides Hal after
everything you were saying about Israel
if you are so not appreciating and not
happy with the existence of the state
yikes yikes did I say anything even
remotely uh that sounded like I don't
want the state of Israel I've been
living here for 35 years I left my
family I left my
culture I gave up everything to come and
leave here for 35
years I remember R granowski from or de
was collecting in Chicago and uh and and
he says does yes say he says no we
follow the Poston goes then I'm not
going to give you any money because
you're not Zionist now he was serving in
hagga when he came and he says I live in
Israel with my children and Grand
children yeah I've been living there for
decades I serve in the Army and you're a
bigger Zionist than I am so after that
he would always say the biggest zionists
are in Chicago that was the expression
he picked
up if you are not appreciating and not
happy with the existence of the state I
am happy with the existence of the state
I appreciated for the fact that we have
a state you are wrong I never said any
such
thing listen listen
why do you live leave there I guess
means live there and enjoy its benefits
and the soldiers who risk their life to
protect you you mean like my
son-in-law who's been serving in Gaza
like those like my other son-in-law who
was in the Army like
them like me who volunteered for the
Army when I came and they asked me to
please
leave I was 29 years old um uh morbidly
obese in terrible health they asked me
to please go home and I but I wanted to
volunteer I said at least put me in the
education department you know I have
experience working with kids you bring
youth over I could work with this and
they were like just go away anyway um so
you're wrong you just made this up
because you're stuck in your in your
mind frame and you can't think outside
of it because you don't know how to
listen
listen why does the state pay money to
yeshivas and give special rights to col
guys if this is just a state like any
other state why do they give it they
give it because of government uh you
know politics not because they believe
in dyra not because they're supporting
it guess what the United States of
America also gives money to Yas they
also give money to to people who are
learning on Co yeah so like everything
you should support it but don't make a
mistake of thinking that the state of
Israel has as a national priority people
learning Torah as we can see right now
they do not so please
but you know it makes you feel
comfortable uh here's
one to give an answer as to why Yas is
celebrated with Hal on a day other than
the fifth of e you said the reason the
entire country Alters or pushes off
their celebrations to avert K shabas
what greater reason for saying H could
there be than that yikes are you telling
me that if a bunch of people decide to
keep shabas you say
Hal well you have any source for that
if the reason for saying Hal on he is
because a miracle happened on he the
fact that people decide not to be shabas
is not a reason to say Hal unless you
could bring me a source show me anywhere
where it says everybody decides in keep
shab you know so then you say Hal I've
never seen
that it's an emotional reason this is
what I tried to say at the beginning
when it comes to these topics people are
emotional they put aide intellect
they're not
thinking right it's like like R risken
said it's not a question of Hally you
should say Hal or not it's question of
how could you not say Hal the answer is
because it's a issue Hal it's not should
we should we have a you know drink a to
the fact that the state of Israel exists
you know that's not what we're talking
about there's a din called H you can't
just make it up as you go
along this kind of undermines the
perception that the state was founded
with the sole goal of uprooting Torah
judis R Weinbach was quoted here as
saying it was not Rach it was the brisar
RV please R mendal is no longer with us
don't attribute something that the
brisar RV said to rendel Weinbach listen
listen you understand what I'm
saying and does that does that prove
anything of course not it's because the
raban nut made the decision it wasn't
made by the
government doesn't prove anything
the ninth of is pushed off some years
and the full re Regiment of Manan are
practice despite not being on the actual
historical day that's correct the
gamorra says that you can do that but
nowhere can you find a gamorra that says
if you can say Hal on a day that a
miracle took place someplace else it
doesn't make any sense what you're
saying to allege that this opportunity
for grouth growth during National
Morning has no place for Jews life
because it was not thought up by some
great Rabbi or because Gentiles did it
before we needed to is
tonee to Torah ideals Torah ideals and
the reality of the Jewish people today
tonee let me talk to you about
tonee you know there's a pusk in the
Torah which ironically we often read
around this time of year
which is a you're not allowed to do
things that go
do even if you're doing it for a Jewish
reason and the poim who opposed it
opposed it for that reason it's a
go B so you're telling me that all these
Pim are toned deaf and don't understand
the reality of the Jewish people today
or perhaps you live in such a bubble
that you can't think outside you can't
listen you you're walking out as
Governor yunan gets up to speak because
you don't want to hear any view that's
different than your own which I think is
sad I've been hearing the ideas you
express here for 30 years unlike wine
these reason have grown stale instead of
improving with age because you don't
listen you don't try to understand yeah
after and then
understand you don't want to understand
anything else cuz you're locked into
your Paradigm and you don't even want to
hear anything that's different than what
you've already concluded but of course
he continues right down the line but I
thank Hashem every day that I live in a
time of history in which the Jewish
people have won our own country and our
home that Hashem promised to our of us
which we are free to keep the Torah I
agree I think that's a great thing two
that we have young men and women of all
or even no levels of observant who are
convicted enough I guess have enough
conviction I hope they haven't been
convicted to confront evil face to face
so that we can live here yeah me
too perhaps it should be the K focus of
the Season ah so you see I have to I
have to put everybody into a little
schnit I remember when mayor lansi was
the mayor of uh of
Yim so it was yikon so they said you
know are you going to you know recognize
yaron he says of course I'm going to be
at the te not in my role as a KES in the
Army but in my role as the mayor of
Yim but people are so locked in there
was this unbelievable uh uh video with
this guy's on a
bus and this woman starts screaming at
him says oh you you a bunch of parasite
you don't have any jobs he says I'm a
vice president in the high-tech you know
business she said well you guys don't go
to the Army he says I'm an officer you
know yeah well you know you you all
dress in black and
white anything anything because you
locked into this thing
those those people look how they dress
look what they do they
yeah sad you're a sad person I don't
know who wrote this but you're a sad
person and and should try to have a drop
of a is what you people like you tend to
preach I hate those you know why because
they don't have a
Isel it's like Tom lur said I realize
there are people in this world who do
not love their fellow human beings and I
hate people like that yeah perhaps this
should be the K focus of the Season
instead of wearing a sign on our arm
explaining why we don't do this or hold
that we're not doing that you are coming
to us to attack
us so we're we're explaining our
position and we bring youim and we bring
you H and you have nothing other than
vital and hatred seething out of you
it's a disgrace what you're doing to the
Jewish
people remember Hamas attacked because
they saw that Jews were fighting with
each other and they said if they're
fighting with each other we can attack
them he's talking about you that's who
they're talking about you whoever you
are I have yet had to hear a single ra
write out what the modern state of
Israel should look like all I hear is
why it is all no good
nope every single person will tell you
exactly what it's supposed to look like
it's a place that respects Judaism and
is a Jewish country first and
foremost anyway there's more here but uh
but the point of the matter is when when
I get these kind of things and it always
happens because anytime this comes up
the people are just locked into their
Paradigm and they can't think outside of
it and it's all the
hatred go back and listen to my podcast
I had only one message I wanted to
explain the different views and have
tolerance say okay if somebody says Hal
they say Hal if someone doesn't say Hal
they don't say Hal just like there are
some people eat gab and people don't eat
Gab
right but you don't see people screaming
at them well get certain communities but
uh but for the most part so
you what you care yeah but when it comes
to this as that Rabbi said to me saying
is more important than saying kishma
twice a
day
yikes yikes and this kind of hatred why
don't you bums go out and get a job why
AR you go join the Army why AR you this
why aren you that you know the
intolerance and the
hatred you don't you don't need to get
metaphysical Kamas said so when I see
this kind of hatred among Jews and
Israel I can go out and attack and kill
them so that my son-in-law is out there
you know having to collect the dead
that's the unit that he's in and every
time he goes he goes uh radio silent
we're all sitting here ding and hoping
and praying that he he'll come out okay
and the rest of the time we're s to Hill
him for every single Jewish boy who's
out there risking their lives you know
but you you are so locked in your
Paradigm you don't care about these
people you don't do that you don't do
that hateful you are
hateful and so I knew I know when I
bring this up there's going to be people
like you out there filled with hatred
but you know what because of the
majority of good
people good people you know the the
people who say thank you for just trying
to present it like Rabbi kov and did
there are different points to be made
there's something called and those
things should be respected whether you
agree with it or not whether your pisc
has a different position or
not it's it's so sad I read these things
and you think it's some point I would
become inured to to the kind of
close-minded bigotry and hatred of
commments of people that I get like this
you know learn to love learn to be
tolerant the same love and affection
that you have for a non-religious Jew
have for a Jew who follows a a different
H ruling than
you and it's just sad just sad and
that's because you know we in in Israel
everybody is locked into their
caricature they're locked into their box
and the more people can be open to be
able to think in a new way I I'm pretty
sure I said this idea beforehand but it
it Bears repetition yeah K before he
gives the Torah to Israel since we're in
the times of we're preparing for M
before he gives us the Torah he goes to
the other
nations and he says to isar you want to
accept the Torah he says I don't know
what does it say it says don't steal he
says the Torah
says
yeah I'm a thief the Torah says I'm a
thief he goes to ASA he says you want
the Torah he says what does it say says
don't kill he says the Torah says I'm a
murderer it says I live by my
sword it's a good gazak no the Torah
says I'm a thief and the Torah says that
I'm I'm a murderer so how could you
expect me to accept a a law that says
don't kill and don't steal when that's
our the Torah says that about me the
answer is you're right but if you accept
the Torah all bets are off you can
become anybody that you want and all of
your limitations can be
erased and you take on a whole new
existence and that's why thear says that
when the Torah was being given the
nations of the world came to Bam and
said the world is returning to another
flood and he says noem owes it's just
Hashem is giving the Torah to his people
that's why did they think there was a
flood coming to the world because just
like the flood melts and erases
everything that's what the tah does it
erases everything that was there and
gives you a brand new possib ability to
become anything that you
want so let's use this time to move
outside of our comfort zone let's make
an effort to understand instead of being
understood let's make an effort to hear
what somebody else thinks and not just
make them hear what I think because the
world would be a much better place if we
spent that time trying to understand
each
other I'm pretty sure I mentioned this
already and if not probably in past
years
yeah they weren't showing each other
COV it was who
said they weren't they weren't
respecting each other so I remember
hearing the shot I forgot where I heard
it from I I'm sorry sure somebody will
write in yeah the gamarra says not that
he had 24,000 students he had 12,000
sets of
kusas and each Kus was learning another
way and nobody wanted to engage with the
other set of Kes to say how did you
understand that maybe you're right and
I'm wrong let's have an exchange of
ideas let's try to move Beyond ourselves
everybody was happy with their own
Paradigm so it's not that they
disrespected but if I don't care enough
about what you think to
understand
you and that's why whether it's a k
position or a Dai position or a secular
position or a Christian position or a
Muslim position I want to understand
what are you
saying forgot who the story was told
with but uh someone saw him in uh
reading one of these anti-semitic
newspapers you know before the war
he says how could you read that he said
I love reading this says why so when I
read the Jewish
newspapers we're experiencing
anti-Semitism everybody's coming after
us terrible things happening when I read
this we control the world we have all
the money we have all the banks I love
reading the anti-semitic papers they
make me feel
good and uh and that's why uh you know
Ben Shapiro who is a conservative
commentator says always read liberal
sites also get the other perspective
don't just stay in an echo chamber
listen to what everybody has to say
objectively and the more that people
hunker down and only hear what they're
saying apparently some journalist who
worked for CNN wrote this piece recently
where she was shocked that she was at a
dinner party of like intelligent people
people who had positions Etc and after a
few drinks some of them started pointing
out that they actually believed in Trump
and Maga cuz I was shocked that that
they were keeping it secret all this
time I never would have
gone you're so locked in your own
perspective you can't even listen to
what anyone else is
saying I know from Jews who voted for
Joe Biden and continued to support him
through everything I I couldn't
understand it and I started asking them
questions and when I do they get very
very
emotional they usually break off the
conversation they can't they can't
handle it they can't handle being asked
questions being examined they
just thank outside of your comfort zone
be honest learn to listen and then maybe
one day we will reach a state of affairs
where the state of Israel will be the
state where everybody can say Hal
because everyone will
recognize and the the the will
be the way that it's supposed to be and
that's my hope and
prayer okay now we come to the question
and
answer part of our program although one
could argue this whole thing was already
a question answer but okay by Anonymous
what does orlovski mean it's an
interesting
question my father claimed that Oraf
means eagle and therefore it was a
cohain name because Kesha represents
Reus and kohanim
are I don't know if it's true or
not uh I looked it up once and it seems
that there was a prince Oraf I don't
know if it's the same one who's in dero
mouse or not but uh there's a prince
oloff who was apparently good to the
Jews and a lot of Jews took on his name
so if you find someone whose name is Ora
orl
orlo
orski or
or or wits these kind of things they're
probably being named after Prince Oraf
that's that's the best I got by Jonathan
M should you offer guests to make their
own kiddish first or just go ahead and
make it for everyone what is
the and it's better if the Bal Mak for
everybody
however um I
know like that everybody makes their own
KES in fact one chabas I had two Boston
rebas at my house yeah what do I mean by
that Boston never has any because
everyone's a
rebba in Boston everyone's a rebba right
so uh these were so you know there was
the Boston rebba and then there was the
Boston rebba of Boston and the Boston
rebba of of New York and uh and uh their
children went on they became the Boston
rebba of betar and the Boston of har the
one from from bos mov to harno and then
in harno and there's betar and there's
and there's farak away and a whole bunch
of Boston rebers everybody's a RAB
anyway these were
two um two ski of the uh of the Boston
and they came in full you know they
weren't reers yet but they were reers in
training you know rits and uh and they
they said is it okay if we make our own
Kish I said sure you know I and I I said
so you guys are from Boston so you guys
are GNA be reers right that's how it
works I'm like well yeah I said can I
give you a kit now and I'll get it on
the ground floor so when you come a
rabit you can take care of it they
didn't say yes or no anyway
way so uh so that's that's the approach
I take if I have people who want to make
their own Kish I certainly give them uh
that option and uh you know and if uh if
not if it's a default then I make kidish
for everyone what is something to think
about during SP oh that's that's what
we've been talking about these past
weeks the
me these 48 different things that are
listed in the BR of mos that we're
supposed to be this is
the this is what we're supposed to be
working on before we get to toyra is
working on ourselves to become people
who are Ro to be ma to and that's what
we're supposed to be doing is developing
our meidos during this time and uh
working on them yeah so uh meidos are
very important I remember I was teaching
a class to a group of women about MOS
and uh after we did the introduction so
I said so which MOS do you want to work
on the first one they said was
savonus patience I said well you'll have
to wait till we get to
that okay can the RV please explain the
concept of leaving over some food and
not finishing everything on your plate
as I understand it the concept is that
you do not want to look like a glutton
and a person who just gobbles up
everything and and and starts to like
lick the
plate then it's not a good look if you
eat and you leave over a little
something so you're showing that I am
not ravenous I am eating because there
is I need to eat in order to be able to
take care of my body or
is but not that I am a
glutton as the ramban points out and
K it means do not be a
man because you can become an alcoholic
with kosher wine and you can be a
glutton with kosher food and uh a person
should try to show some
self-restraint when it comes to their
tyers okay by
Jay what's the torah's view on a nju
being allowed to get an abortion why is
a Jew should we care if abortion is
legal or
not without getting into hil's abortion
and
obviously in this sense our view is
different than the um than the uh U view
that life begins at conception and
there's never any reason for an abortion
there might be certain extenda
circumstance ances and that's something
to go and speak to a worldclass posc
about where it applies and where it
doesn't but we don't believe that life
begins at conception right like there
are certain fundamental uh people do
however at some point that fetus is
considered
alive and and therefore if you were to
uh um kill the fetus it's not it's not a
life as the in M tells us that you it
but you're not allowed to end that
life and uh that's that's clear
in one of the sh is not to kill so if
killing a Fus is killing then it applies
to a non-jew just as much as to a
Jew um you don't want to be in a society
that allows
murder so if at some point this thing is
is called alive and that's why in 2020
the Democrats were trying to figure out
who to put up against Donald Trump and
during all the debates there wasn't one
candidate who said I would say long late
term abortions are wrong which means in
the ninth month when everyone agrees
this kid is alive yeah you can kill the
baby nobody wanted to say
no uh the former governor of Virginia
said he was a doctor he would perform a
an abortion after birth it's after the
baby came out if the parents decide they
didn't want it he would kill
it that's that's outright murder that's
that's Post delivery abortion I mean
gosh what are we what are we talking
about over here so yeah I don't I don't
think that we as Jews want to be in a
society that allows murder because it's
bad for the entire Society what the
rules and regulations are of course open
for discussion but yes Jews should be
concerned about the moral caliber of
where they live Anonymous if the Kazan
skips half of the words in kades am I
allowed to answer aain M yes as long as
you know the guy is a from guy and uh I
don't know what this is I can't explain
this I've seen this many times in
America that people leave out the word
elu when they make a
I'm sure they believe in God you know
and that God is elu but uh people slur
their words they mix the words together
you know and uh as long as you know that
they're from person and that they're
saying it they may have swallowed it
they may have mumbled it they may have
this but you can assume that it's
correct and so if you know there's a
from person even if you hear the end of
the BR you're allowed to answer on
me and that's it for this episode if you
