Episode 6: Rachel's Daily Struggle

anybody was listening and only people would laugh because I used to tell when I'm you know my best jokes when I was turning over the tape no prizm people missed out on that so sometimes it's just that's like but I only had one wife yeah four wives anybody could do that and and he does then and there is a dramatic scene on this week's partial he knows that he's gonna marry Rahul I could make but when he sees Russell he starts crying I used to do that on dates but he does that because he looks at her and he knows Baraka kodesh that they're not gonna be safer to be buried together I mean gosh when you go out on your first date and you look at the girl and you think to yourself are we gonna be buried together now by the way don't bring it up right this was one of my problems dating I don't want to make small talk friend of mine once said you know you don't look at holes on the first date that's just not appropriate you know you have to be able to make small talk that's an art form not everybody knows how there's this girl and some girls do this some girls know that guys a lot of them don't know how to talk especially you know if if they've taken their medication that day what's your name I am we were learning I am Shiva okay and how much did you take before you gave me so girls because sister hazael tell us that knowing parts of deburr nine powers and parts of speech were given to women so women have the ability to talk much more yeah and so they there are girls who prepare a running monologue in case the guys quiet on the date you know so some girls prepare two dates worth of monologues because you're certain people of the sheet that you always have to have a second date no matter what you know if you go out with a piece of luggage you know it's worth a second date you never know you never know you know they always prepared to do monologues this girl came in from out of town she had arranged the number of dates you know and she got confused when she went out with this guy the second time and she did her first date routine again and the guy was watching it with this fascination you know I wonder if she's gonna tell that yeah yup now she's telling that story oh yeah you know at the end of the day they had a wonderful time it was almost like the last day cuz she's did the same exact routine well of course she was so embarrassed that he had to marry her for a sham they have grandchildren but you know you have a certain running monologue you know but one of the things you don't say is so where do you want to get buried no I just I want to get it now you know it was an old joke in New York I don't know if this still applies but the most popular place to make a bar mitzvah was the Washington hotel they used to say from the hospital you made two phone calls if you had a boy you called the moil and you called the Washington hotel to reserve it in 13 years from today and not necessarily in that order and you'll either make sure that you could get it you know so you know so you want to make sure reserve in advance but I don't know that you should start you know when you go out the first date start reserving where we're gonna get buried you know we can get plots you know so so he such crying he knows was my rock yeah and he's told you have to work seven years for Rocco and he's game seven years huh piece of cake piece of cake puts in the seven years yeah he was 63 yeah like it was 63 I was 63 but then he first we do 6-3 when he got the brothers then he went off to learn for 14 years because you don't want to jump into marriage you know I mean a young man or 63 you know so at work seven years fine get married at 84 nice nice age you you know that you've matured I'll just let's just get this straight right there's 63 and 14 years is 77 another seven years is 84 studio audience is questioning my math skills there's one thing I can do is add 14 and 7 trust me I I went to school I my school graduate so I can do that much you know yep yeah 84 84 so so he goes in for his wedding and rouxelle sees that her sister Leia is being dressed up in her wedding dress and being given her veil I'm gonna be led down the aisle in her place now Yaakov anticipated this he knew he was dealing with loving and so they set up codewords passports and Russell said wow this is going to be extremely awkward miss Tama welcome earned in a seminary and that's a seminary word awkward guy told me he went out once with the seminary girl and there was that well quiet spell and she goes uh-oh awkward silence she probably says oh this is going to be so awkward they're gonna get down there you know and and Yakka will go swordfish swordfish yeah you're not you tried to trick me yo crooked swear good thing I checked under the veil now you imagine haole is gonna feel ladies gonna be devastated so what does Raquel do Rocco gives the passwords to lay him now let's appreciate the underlying implications of this yeah yet Spock had two boys and lovin had two girls and everybody know they're gonna marry each other nemi's a truffle who was meant to marry Yakov Aveeno is instead going to end up with and the pervasive or nobody and she was prepared for that it was prepared for that just so that her sister shouldn't be embarrassed and that's cause she got a Shrek II song mama won't you say a prayer for your dear children yeah so unbelievable you two you two if you can make a monumental enough sacrifice could probably get a Shrek II so it's it's beautiful but how about mama Leia now let's make no mistake about it mama Lane ever get a song mama Leia who is the mother of half of Claro let's for a moment move in to mama lay is ahead she sees her father dressing her up as her sister on her sister's wedding day and she's gonna go down the aisle what is she thinking what's going on in her head and as she's going down rouxelle says this is this is me and Yakov had a password here's the password oh gosh doesn't she realize now that she's stealing her sisters cousin and what's gonna happen to her sister and we all talk about Rocco and Rocco's tremendous sacrifice and her mysterious nefesh and how we turned to rock alone may know that she should dive in for us over the years well how come Leia was okay with this whole thing why did lei said passwords I'm gonna reveal myself to Yaakov and let him know the truth so there's two different approaches I don't know if I'll have time for both of them today there's two different approaches and each one of them brings with it a particularly poignant math message let's take the first one yeah the first approach is layered didn't know Yaakov meets rouxelle he says I'm gonna marry you and she says an epic attack my father is a rabbi he's gonna make somehow this ain't gonna work you're gonna marry Leia is never gonna happen he says your father's a rabbi I'm a big around my than her than he is and Rocco says yeah sure you are I'll bet you all those years learning in your Shiva's Iver I mean you suck you know and shame for a ver you really picked up all those smooth moves that my dad has yeah you look at a full lovin no I did is the full lovin never gonna happen and so Russell made up in her mind the following conclusion seven years from now on my wedding night my father's gonna switch layer for me and what's she gonna do how is she gonna handle it and so Yaakov went off at the Sheep and as he says to lovin I worked the day and I worked night I ate the ice and the snow and the cold I a was burnt up in the Sun by the day I never left I never brought you a typhoid off wolves I fought off lions I never brought you any cost he's out in the Sheep every now and then he sends a gift to Russell here is a beautiful cactus it'll look nice on your window sill oh look yeah here's a here's a leaping lizard that's gonna become real popular when Dick Tracy comes out the crazy yeah little of a nanny leaping lizards yeah whatever you found he would send it directly he sent two gifts throughout the years and whatever he sent Rahul brought it over to Leia and said Yakko brought this to you now it never occurred to lay it to ask why didn't he contact me directly because sir Leia was such a Senora Runkle she was she was a go-getter she went out with the Sheep you know she was camp counselor race you know she had the starring role in the in the performance you know whatever Leia stayed home and cried cried she Domon she said they held him before they were tail she'sshe's bhavish cool I feel uh so of course doesn't expect a Yakov to come and hang out with her punished yeah so he sent it to Rocco Rocco would bring it to her for seven years as Yakov courted Rucka Rucka took everything and brought it over to Leia so when it came to the end and she goes down to the Hupa rouxelle says by the way Yakov wants to make sure it's really you so he said when he says swordfish you say knock three times hissing so there's a special code that of course was not the cook yeah yeah real code leh didn't know anything and in the morning when Yakov realized what had happened it says he goes to love on he doesn't say to Leia why did you do this to me he goes to love on how did you trick me - I to me until the day she died layer never knew that Yahoo was supposed to marry Rahul he had no idea and so as this whole process plays out now you understand why you know seven days as soon as he finishes her breakfast you've corded layer for seven years as far as Leah knows and a week later you marry my sister can imagine lei is shocked and that's why when Reuven brings in the dude uh Liam and Russell says maybe I could have those flowers and she says it's not enough that you stole my husband I stole your husband you stole my husband but Leia had no idea cuz Russell never told her and loving never told and nobody let on to what had actually happened there's a ptosis it talks about dying us get a sham talks about dying ask a sham I don't know how many of you have ever thought about this we're supposed to think about it when we say krishma a hole above claw of a whole knife chakra even if we have to give up our lives in volumes Shamala hole above hem of the whole knife shock em even after we give up our lives twice in the morning we say that twice the evening we say that and once before we go to sleep five times a day we say we're prepared to give up our life I've thought about it I've thought about it it gets me upset when I hear how flippant people are about the Holocaust it's just amazing why didn't these people fight back why didn't these people this why did these people run away what do you have any idea what you're talking about there were these villages where people didn't have money for food and nothing Zack said that when he went with the puppets claim to a to a rabbinical Convention and Ville knows the first time he ever saw a flush toilets he never saw one flush toilet they only had outhouses and Rawdon have money they're nothing what do you think you got to do run out on your credit card and get an airline ticket and fly out there nothing it was unbelievable poverty hunger and let's say you say okay I'll run away you'll run away what about your parents they're elderly what about your children they're little do you abandon everybody and just run away and save yourself and leave everybody else well nobody knew it was gonna be an extermination at that point who knows what was gonna happen do you abandon everybody very hard decision and and the Nazis worked very hard to confuse people about what was actually taking place and people don't want to hear bad news people people don't want to accept it but I play through what if it was me and they rounded me up and went to put me on the trains and then you stand for three days and the burning heat with no air in these cattle cars with one slot pipe pal for the for everybody there and no food and then you come off and the blazing lights and the dogs you know you chasing after you and the selections and then sleep on a pallet a wooden pallet three high three four people on a pallet no food no water working from early in the morning to late at night wearing those pajamas and those wooden clogs and I've thought it through and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't make it to the drink I would be schlepping along they put a boat in me that would be the end of it now a person survived and people want a second get why did everyone off to the woods right off to the woods and eat what now and live where in the freezing cold people are so flipping people I in wrong why did that would even why didn't they what what were they supposed to do so if they knew for sure they were gonna get killed then maybe it pays just to Joe and jumping and then try to do something but very hard very hard I play to that scenario but what would I do terrorist pulls out a gun and says I'm like Gilly you know we had a spate here in Russia lion not that long ago Arabs pulling out knives and stabbing people with me and my wife we were working to the case'll you know and you're walking past the site where people get stabbed then you wonder well I do if somebody pulls out this big Naveen shouts you know Allah what am I supposed to do what are you supposed to do I mean you think to yourself am I ready to die Oscar - Anna and I think I think about this many times many times what would you do in that situation now to go out to be shot to be stabbed no okay to be hanged but since Isis Canadian mischievous are you were prepared to give up their lives and be thrown into the kitchen aah but if they would have gotten mochas and and been beaten they would have eventually broken and bowed down because we can find that moment of inspiration will we stand up for that moment of greatness but that every single day to wake up and how they lived they lived in these concentration camps how they managed through the through the horrors and the terrors to get up every morning and to survive to another day and another day another day that's what Isis says if they would have been beaten they probably would have broken cuz we're prepared to go out and abate blaze of glory but at constant constant so if there was a moment and Leia is dressed up in the wedding gown and Ruckle sees her ready to walk down the aisle instead of her and in a moment of inspiration she says here's the password that would have been a terrible design but for seven years as her cousin sent her gifts you know today you have a four month engagement that's a long engagement seven years and he'd sent her gifts and send her things etc and each time she would take it and bring it over to Leia and say this is for you this is for you spent seven years giving up her cousin every single day reassuring layer telling her that's an unbelievable serious nefesh Leia lay never knew and and when when Yakov realized what happened he wasn't gonna tell her and he understood so much of what Rocco had gone through for those past seven years cuz he never told Yakov cuz he figures if I let Yakov in he's guy he's not gonna stand for this I have neighbors as a cons you might know there's a con she writes trades books and articles when her mother passed away I want the page to call and she told me the following story she said there was a transport from her town and everybody in her town was killed except for her she was the only one who survived and my mother used to ask how come I survived why was the only one that survived and there's a there's a point where you think to yourself maybe I wasn't ready to die osculation now this is this is a little morbid to think about but Ravenna Kleber was so shook up its claim I heard him speaking once and he said we was once travelling as a little boy in Europe traveling on a train with my father and anti-semites fired into the car where they knew the Jews were the poles were flying and me and my father survived my father said I almost thought I was ready to die a skittish am of kind of says I started crying I said Tati you want to die he says no but do you know what it means to be chosen to die us get a shot sure I heard this I didn't check it out but I heard somebody say be ashamed of North Weinberg now when Mayock Ahana who is a controversial figure was killed by an arab of Noack said I'm surprised I didn't realize he was on the level to die as concession when a person dies on skiddish a sham I had a friend of mine York s Co Goldberg I knew him when he was Scottie Goldberg from Toronto he was living here now it's shell and he became a therapist it was working with people and he was on a bus and Arab terrorists blew it up they died and you think to yourself you know to be chosen to be Kadosh I remember when the to bus blew up here in your life and they hadn't even yets of all the people who had died each one was a bigot silac than the next one I remember I read that and I said Albert Hashem I'm okay he's only taking the good people I'm gonna stick around [Laughter] doesn't want me I had a brother passed away 63 from his heart failed and heart stucked and my mother was still alive she was in her 80s and imagine a mother losing a son like that and she asked the question that only a mother can ask how did this happen why did this happen why did God take Jason I said to God don't take him take me I'm an old woman am I in my life is done take me he's he's got children to marry off why why did my son take who can answer such a question now I couldn't fly because I had had my heart attack and my bypass operation so I had this itch over here so I called up my mother to be Menachem and she says to me why why did God take Jason why didn't he take me and I said God doesn't want you you're an old cranky lady why should you take you Jays a lot of fun that's why he took Jay she said to me that's the first thing anyone said that makes it he said [Laughter] I never do it someone tells me that they went to see her you know a few days before she passed away and she said she was in a lot of pain and she says I'm trying not to be so cranky so God will take me so this was the question the whole town was taken away and die das kiddush Hashem how my mother would kept think why did she survive and I said because there's two ways to be mikado shame shame I am you could die as a kid a sham or you can live as a kiddush Hashem and a courage burro who chose your mother for the much harder road they have to live as kiddush Hashem the terrible thing that happened in us who have to get up every morning and we have to live a meaningful life a whole day and go to sleep and wake up the next day and perfect our meadows and do mitzvahs and make the world a better place and Makeda shame shamayim and we have to do it and they asked with the end of our lives we can turn around and make the same impact on the world as people who were able to do it in a blaze of glory rahel didn't just give up her cousin rahul spent seven years giving up her cousin day in and day out some struggles are those moments of glory to quote the junior senator from New Jersey my Spartacus moment my Spartacus moment I stand up i Spartacus you could just stand up and have that moment that moment I may have told this story already the outsourced loboteca was the machiya in the achieve of know made a decision she delivered that decision in her whole life you see that when she was childless she asked her sister for the flowers that maybe she'd be able to have a baby being our mother and his and our sister snaps at her that's not enough you stole my husband and you know what she said Shh nothing nothing shush - take it out on me don't say anything to my to my sister and I could do anything to hurt her feelings that's our challenge fate say is the parsha where we give birth to Claudia's rel Bonet yes Rael Yaakov is useful this is where we come we become people it's played out again when we go down to mitzrayim well we become that just not just a family but we come a nation and it's the daily struggle that we have to do in order to be able to accomplish that Kadesh and we
