92: The Test Advantage

hi this is Deborah Orlowski and welcome to the rappel off ski show wherever you are watching or listening to your podcast it's certainly exciting to have you along as always as you can tell we are still not back in the official a real on ski studio because when I'm wearing my earphones and that's not just because I've been stuck in my house with some children and grandchildren for weeks and I'm trying to walk out the noise that's not why because we're not in that regular studio and as you can see I had to schlep all my bookcases back put it over here to be able to continue the podcast and what can I tell you it's so exciting to to be here I this will be my podcast before she Roy's obviously and we've spoken a lot about you boys we spoke about him last year we spoke about a few times already and a number of podcasts leading up to this but that's by the way why I put on my gold tie I hope you appreciate that because you know Shoshanna this din din is always gold gold is din silver give you people in America it's not a big deal you just had a three-day Yun's of going in for face up you know you people are geared up for this yeah I saw somebody send around you know after being locked up for you know two months three day young this will never bother me but frankly to Israelis to the yen tips are really very difficult very difficult and I've often thought that second a young TIFF was created by a farm in order to encourage Aliyah yeah it's definitely the reason why I moved here it may not be the reason I moved here but certainly reason I stayed here [Laughter] so so we been doing that diet and you know when you get up in the morning what are you gonna eat she could have hard cheese you get eggs look any flakes you know you could have a big dollop of mayonnaise you know so like two mayonnaise and eggs I eaten those few years I lost weight then I gained it all back with interest you know they took out my gallbladder yeah some studies suggested it it just fills your whole body with fat you do a PET scan you know so I I haven't been on it you know sometimes I go into a modified Atkins which is you know you eat as much protein and fats as you want and as much carbohydrates as you want so yeah you know you have the best of you know try to get both types of guys just kidding on that but you know some of use our iPod egg I prefer to use default to fish the fine if I have to I will take a jog if up to fish because I let you know a little secret I like jog difficult to fish I do I don't know if she's supposed to or not a lot of people will put off of it because of the goo in the jar I understand that I feel I feel feel that would som like matzah mislead anyway negative terschelling and it seems like such an innocuous thing to do and yet when I was in NC sy so we used to make on column o Pesach for our region a big great adventures trip during como estas that's because great adventure during : oi Pisa has what they call Jew day which is one day which is given over to the Jews now you don't have to get you to come but I think this is discount for Jewish group sin and they have a kosher pavilion where you can get kosher place that food you can that meson a large selection but Julie can get a kosher her face on coke for like ten dollars you can get a bag of kosher for Pesach potato chips for 25 dollars you can get a kocha for Pesach on for $50 and it's packed another ally because it it's either in March or April freezing out it's almost always raining but everyone comes because it's a great adventure day and everybody has to be there so amusement parks as I've mentioned in the past hold no particular delight for me under the best of circumstances strap yourself into a machine that's gonna hurl you upside down backwards 100 miles an hour like that does that hold any appeal for you yeah I live in Yerushalayim I could just take a taxi and have the same experience I don't the way to learn for it you know but you know but so I'm in the office coordinating the buses you know because Jews can never respond on time you know when they have those deadlines you know what I mean early bird special and then this deadline and the final deadline it and doesn't help people coming at the last minute do you have any rooms left yeah sure few and far between are the programs when they start taking out ads we are sold out don't bother coming yet I've always wanted to call after I stole one of those is because someone told me story though when the footage of ruff opened the fun of it you Shira he couldn't he couldn't get an enrollment so he took out an ad in all of the from newspapers the registration is clothes from the Bonaventure Shimura and so people started calling can I get my son and can I get this one are they as everybody wants to get in some place within that want it was really want you you have to be suspicious yet so uh so I bared the last minute answering messages on the phone you know phone Recorder before he had email messages on the answering machine listening to it can you save me two spots keys and he is fine we try to work at the buses you know so a couple of the kids came in to help me two of my auntie's white kids a boy and a girl each of whom came from a family that was if not anti-jewish is certainly not supportive not supportive and both of these kids had to go and basically make the house basic yeah and it's it's a big deal it's a big deal and yeah yesterday nobody was fighting them but nobody was you know necessarily helping them yeah anyway the guy comes in voice number office puts his head in his hands he says I can't believe it so what happened he said I was almost there I was almost there they let me cash everything yeah they let me cover everything let me buy whatever I needed you know I got the monsters that I wanted I get them to buy from butcher for paisa I got you know everything and they went along and they told me I could run the Seder however I wanted you know we all set and then Erev Pesach my mother sees me taking two marches and a hard-boiled egg and putting it in the little plastic bag she's what's that I said nothing mom so then what is it is it something to get a do it's nothing is no no tell me what it is it's called an eruv tough shilling you see you can't really cook from young TIF to Shabbos but if you have an area of tell children it lets you cook onion for Shabbos said she said that's it I've had it till here and she totally lost it it's amazing everybody has to be a breaking point you know but this was this was this emotional issue in Judaism is an air of tension can you think of anything more innocuous than a shilling well since we're on the topic I break you up huzzah yeah because L says this the following eat up the soup maybe cook the soup if it's a three-day young Tiffany two days younger than going into Shabbos forget about it no they have de mocking for freezes and frigerators very few people have a refrigerated big enough to hold all this Nancy Pelosi I think that's but but for the most part most people don't have that size of a refrigerator so you have to prepare the stuff beforehand yeah I'm on yet them for Shabbos so we make an Arab what's that Arif we start preparing on the weekday for Shabbos because we're gonna eat this on Chavez our two monsters are two rolls with our egg where to put the finish or or salami whatever it is yet so if you start preparing for Shabbos Arivu and if you can continue preparing onion dip and go into showers I've done Weinberg once said something that has been quoted many times with many people we Jews have been accused of everything we've been accused of being God killers you know host desecration we would we would capture the wafer from them from the church and torture it you know we would we were communist or capitalist you know when we drink baby's blood but whatever you want we are it does the only one thing that never accused us of and that's being stupid so there's got to be something deep going on over here there always is so the morale explains what does it mean our Aveeno kept everything including every tell shilling that's what was pinball yeah there was a big table but lights bumpers things would light up you'd have to get through things hold back the ball shooting and we go maybe maybe making it flippers and he'd shoot it all around and if he could light up everything hit Oh everything I'm light everything up then you activated the well this hole in the middle of the ball landed on the well forget about it it just sat there and collected points Jing Jing Jing Jing Jing Jing Jing Jing Jing Jing Jing Jing Jing and he just said they will racked up all the points that was obviously which he was shooting for to be able to just rack up all the points I'm Raveena for the last part of his life he had the pole in the well and he was just racking up the points ding ding ding music JJ music j me me me he was preparing while he still was being tested and once he was able to prepare during those 10 tests for the rest of his life where there were no tests he still continued to get tired that was like Yentob and then he got all of those points and took it with him to Shabbos which is Olam haba what about us the Gemara says nobody was allowed to convert to Judaism during the reign of WG Loma white because when everyone knows that it's cool to be a Jew what's the big deal I remember when Sammy Lieberman was running for vice president and he was in Orthodox Jew he used to say I'm gonna work on this campaign
