and uh i'm going to give a sponsorship
and a victim mosha and malka bas moshe
freed
and it's
shalom on behalf of our entire
mishpochah one of the few things we are
all willing to listen to
thank you from avigdon mindy free from
staten island thank you so much
and uh what can i tell you thank you so
much for
listening to the show and i'm glad that
people enjoy it and get something out of
it
and speaking of getting money out of it
this is part three
i'm a little behind schedule i'm sorry
um
uh how do i dive in by myself on rosh
hashanah
and uh you know i started this series
only because
you know a woman wrote me and said that
she was concerned that there wasn't
going to be an ezra's notion
now here in arizona they're talking
about a general lockdown of the whole
country
so uh this is becoming a little more
halacha
for a lot of people so uh
not the uh not the russian
kipper we would have asked for so
um so let's try to let's try to uh
keep our focus okay so uh we've given a
little bit of an introduction um i want
to focus now on
something that we add in on rosh
hashanah and
and throughout the um
throughout the serious mature of course
and those are the
four additions that we add in
right to each one of the davenings
starting with rosh hashanah
the first one is in the first bracha now
these additions are in the first three
brachas in the last three brackets
so that's where you usually find them
the first one is in the first uh
bracha voice
foreign
remember us for life king
who wants life and write us in the book
of
life for your sake
god of life
that is the first one the second one is
in the
second prophetic
who is like you father of mercy
remember your creations
for a life out of mercy
the next one is not one of the four
editions
it's the only one that is
it stops you from being able to go on
and that is of course instead of the
usual bracha
and if you forget that you gotta get
stage one straight over again
so that's not one of the four editions
the next two
are at the
at the very end right
the last progress
uh the aokulam is
write us in for life good life
all of your people keep your breasts
and then at the end of sims shalom
just before the end
in the book of life bracha peace
panasotova a good
for uh good life and peace
there's then two uh different
versions of how you can end it
hashem shalom
like we usually say okay so let's deal
with these first
and then i want to go back to the melaka
kadosh
which as i mentioned is the most
important one
and as i also mentioned the
uh amida and russian kippur is different
in the fact that that bracha is actually
changed
normally we keep the first three
bronchus and the last three brachas the
same
whether it's shabbos whether it's
weekday whether it's yountif
but here we change the third rock so
we're going to talk about that just in a
moment but let's look at these four
editions
because so
the first one is remember us for life
the second one is
your creations the third one is
binay brisker and
the final one is
remember amherbase israel
so i heard an idea many years ago um
that there is a progression
taking place
remember for life who's that
everything everything
is granted life by a kurdish borough
people animals fish
uh is a force
that allows the world to exist
and it's a it's a life force that
courses through everything in the bria
and that's all being decided now i heard
michael shapiro explained it this way
once
and i may have mentioned it in an
earlier podcast that i remember
you uh you get a budget for the year
and that's it at the end of the year
the bank account closes down
and you have to open a new bank account
put in more money
but you don't roll it over from the last
year that's it
this is fiscal
2020 and that's it
so the way a merchant shipper explains
it is how could historical deposits a
certain amount of life in your account
and every day it ticks down tick tick
tick tick tick tick tick tick tick
and when you reach air freshener it's
going
it's good the only question is how much
life
is going to put in now for this coming
year
yeah give us life
the most the most fundamental thing that
i can possibly ask for is life
this guy's share says
the most important word in that
entire little edition is the word
for you there's no reason
for anybody to be in this world that
they're going against hashem
hashem keeps you in this world only
because obviously you're going to be
serving a greater purpose
you hear people talk sometimes you know
probably have left the rubber of my shop
montesio to tell such a
wonderful story
he says he was on a plane in new york
flying back to uh
cleveland he was living in tales
and there was somebody on the plane and
the plane was a little delayed he had a
few drinks
and he was talking to his friends and he
says you know i live in cleveland
i flew to new york my son's a successful
dinner
my son's a successful doctor
and he took me to the very fancy
restaurant manhattan
i don't remember the name but a very
fancy restaurant and i thought
my son's doing so well he's paying
i'm ordering the biggest steak enormous
thing
no mistake they bring him and
he sits down he starts eating the steak
he's never had a steak like this in his
life
and he's like i can't finish it and he
says you know what
i'm gonna finish i'm gonna finish this
thing
and he goes with my serious
pushing and pushing and pushing until he
finally finishes
the whole steak the whole thing is
enormous thing
well the owner of the restaurant and the
maitre d and the waiter
all come over to him and he's they say
to him
you're only the fourth person
in the history of this restaurant to
finish that steak
other people have ordered it but
nobody's gonna be able to finish it
yeah only three people before you you
were the fourth person in history
to finish that steak you see that plaque
over there
the names of the other three people are
on that plaque and we're gonna add your
name to the
and we're giving you a certificate and
he's telling this story over to the
people on the plane
and tears are in his eyes and he says
you know
i don't know if i've ever accomplished
anything in this world
but i know that my name is going to be
up on that plaque
and if i die tomorrow at least i know my
life had meaning
and mary left says oh my gosh maybe this
guy
you know his feeling will be handsome
the plane will crash should i ring
because he's fulfilled everything in
this world
so tell him there's a bigger steak
there's more steak to eat
but the idea is you want life
i may have told this story beforehand
but you know coach morocco has a keen
sense of humor and you can see it in a
show more than most places
i've brought different examples of it
over the years but because where was
such a delightful
sense of humor yeah so um
uh it used to be
that he used to change the clock before
jim kimber
uh when yaya lapid uh got into power one
of his anti-religious moves was
to change uh daylight savings time until
the end of october beginning november
like everybody else
but of course the people religious
people wanted it
changed before yum kipra they said
because otherwise the faster end
an hour later so the
secular knesset people said it's 25
hours in any event but there is a make
he says i can
tell you haven't fasted on you gibra
well you would know that that last hour
is the longest hour of your life
but they used to change it and i thought
it's so unbelievable
[Laughter]
foreign we want to live god we want to
live give us life please please give us
life
and then goes poof coach broco says here
turn back the clock you just got an
extra hour
of life and what does everybody say
oh good i can sleep later
you don't need life to sleep you know
you can you can be dead and sleep
yeah someone's talking to a group of
teenagers
so what's the greatest pleasure in the
world they said sleeping
i said no if you have a day off because
of course i sleep the whole day
i said you have a vacation what do you
mean summer vacation i was off from
school i slept for two months straight
so i said well i bet you can't wait
until you're dead you'll sleep forever
so one kid said no i'll never have the
pleasure of waking up and going back to
bed
otherwise he doesn't mind dying every
few years open up the box everything's
still here okay close by go back to
sleep
you know
you want life for what to sleep
stay up and watch another uh you know
uh video about cats
little kids saying silly things what do
you want extra life for
yeah an extra hour of life
the vulnerability on his deathbed was
holding his senses and he says mitzvah
misfits in this world they're so cheap
in the world to come you can't do them
anymore
we're asking for life
that's the first one the first ones
we're asking for life and we're asking
for life in india
what's the second one
remember your creations who's that
human beings
all the nations of the world every human
being
has its element with him every human
being has the potential to be
able to contribute to the glory of the
world
and of high quran they have a voice
they have words everybody everybody can
offer up their words to hakuras
now we're not just asking for life we're
asking for life
in mercy a merciful life
more than just life itself
which by the way is a tremendous gift
life itself
mentioned this a number of times already
yeah
how could a person ever thank their
parents for the fact that they gave them
life
wouldn't be a lie people say well i
didn't ask to be born
no problem you put a butt in your head
right now
well i mean come on the fact that you
don't kill yourself means that you
recognize that life is an unbelievable
gift
what a glorious glorious thing
and uh
we we thank coach brocco just for life
itself but for a life
that comes from mercy
for every human being
that's something that's even greater
what's the third one
not just life a good life
good life listen the dust cannon brings
down a ghazal it's brought down in a
number of places
the three advisors that paro had
was israel billam and eof
israel said to pyro be good to the jews
philam said be bad to the jews enslave
them
oppress them and eve said nothing
and so because i'll continue
israel who said be good to the jews was
rewarded
he became i would call yourself
i am a
special role father-in-law of most
remaining
film who said to be bad to the jews was
killed by the sword
an eo who said nothing had the terrible
sufferings
of job
all of the sufferings so yes
what would you prefer would you prefer
to have all the sufferings of joke
illness poverty watch your children
die all the terrible things took place
or a nice clean death
better is a life of the worst
suffering than death and he says and
that's what david
says in the
he gave me all kinds of suffering but
i'm still alive
still here
with his life there's hope
victor frankel when he's describing the
experiences he had in the holocaust
this book man in search of meaning
he says people who had a purpose who
understood that they were in life for
a reason they were able to survive the
terrible terrible ordeals
and those who didn't have meaning it was
too much for them
it broke them
so life itself is a is a profit uh the
last podcast we talked about the
different tunes
and someone wrote it and said i remember
yeah my uh my father was a cousin
when he did the enemy he would walk in
from the back of shul
and he would start the enemy and he
would take a few steps forward and he'd
continue and he'd continue
until he reached the front
he says it was even more powerful that
it was coming from a holocaust survivor
a person goes through that gehenna
and all he wants to do is say that
please accept might feel like this rosh
hashanah young kipper
wow so
any life is a bracha and we have to
thank it conspiracy for life
itself but now we're asking for lachaim
trevin
a little bit more than that
an interesting term rene bris
you know there is a certain hierarchy
in the non-jewish world
[Music]
the rambam says
the famous rambam that everybody quotes
that
a kurdish borough who wanted to prepare
the world for mashiach
which i understand when the second base
of magnus was destroyed
we were the only people who believed in
this everybody else worshipped the
bodhisattva
when i say everybody i mean the roman
empire
i mean the parthian empire i mean the
the the german germanic people
i mean the celtics uh in uh in
england i mean the africans
and the native americans and the asians
there was nobody who believed in
the concepts of monotheism and the fact
that
hakusho gave the torah on her sinai and
that there's a purpose to this world
and that mashiach is going to come and
save the world
so says the rambam set up a couple of
franchises he called them
christianity and islam to prepare the
non-jewish world for these ideas
so today there are billions of people in
the world who believe there's one god
he gave the torah to the jews on mount
sinai
eventually he's going to bring the
mashiach
they all believe these concepts so there
are those who learn but april
means everybody who accepts the concept
of
one god
that's one of the myths you have to
accept
that there's one god and put aside
uh idolatry
so you notice that the the people with
the first we say give
life to everything just life
and then we say life with mercy to
itsurum to people and then we say
give a good life to benedict
the people who recognize you and then
the end we get to the jewish people
and we say
all of this is coming out of the
original thing
because of everything that you give me i
can use in this world
it says to it sadiq his money is as
precious to him as his
body why because he understands that
both of them were given to him by coach
baruch
to do something with in this world
that's why we have a body that's why
we're in this world that's why we have
money that's why we have everything
i had this course of working years ago
with mikhail
flam zanzal
and uh he used to
he had a car back in the old days in
itself when it wasn't as common
and he would drive down the street and
he would stop at every bus stop and say
does anyone need a ride
until his car was full and he said to me
once i can't think of a bigger boosha
then uh then to
uh drive down this the street with an
empty car
i have a brother adalia and he was
building his house
uh in muncie so he had this large lyrium
valley everybody put in the sound system
they put all kinds of different things
and he made it available as a gamak for
anybody who had to do a sim card you
know it's more simple
they could use his house and he built it
originally for that purpose
i uh i've had this course a number of
times for speaking to the uming group
in lawrence
larry martin and the whole basement of
our house is set up as just a giant
room for sure it's uh
everything that i'm given and so i say
le mancha
give me all the good things so that i
have the ability to be able to go
and and serve you properly
and that's what all these things are
saying and so i have a build up
the world should exist life
yeah everything
because comes rosh hashanah
all beginnings bring din tell us
why is that because before i do
something i have to decide whether or
not i want to do it
first i have to decide should i do this
or not
is this worthwhile doing i told the
story a bunch of times but i
i always loved to tell it i was in a
shabbaton
the father says to me a very successful
chavato and i said really why
he says well we have a lot of students
and they're all having a great time i
said
is that the purpose of the shabbaton and
he says to me
i don't know what should be the purpose
of a shepherd tone and i said
show this afternoon is the wrong time to
ask that question
before you decide to make the shabbaton
ask yourself what your purpose is
here's a little piece of trivial history
for you something that of course i
specialize in
there were these alka seltzer commercial
commercials
i think they were in the 70s they won
all kinds of awards
they became catchphrases they became um
t-shirts the phrases entered into
popular culture
for alka-seltzer
i can't believe i ate the whole thing
you ate it ralph i can't believe i ate
the whole thing hey
i can't believe take it out
okay he's filming commercial mamma mia
that's the spicy meatball
and he keeps doing it until he's like
he's like dying you out
i went into a restaurant the waiter says
i say to the waiter what is it he says
try it you'll like it
i said well what is it he says try it
you like it but what is it there
i tried it thought i was gonna die took
two alka sauces
these were great commercials only
problem was they didn't sell alka
seltzer
people loved them people enjoyed
watching them they became catchphrases
they just didn't sell alka seltzer
there is one of the most annoying
jingles
that has ever been made and everyone
acknowledges that it's annoying
one eight seven seven cars for kids
k k-a-r-s cars for kids
one aide seven seven cars for kids
right you know why it's great
because you remember it i'm not trying
to write a song for you to sing in a
casual
i want to drill something into your
brain so you remember that phone number
so if you ever have a car that you want
to donate you'll give it the cars for
kids
yeah which by the way is ura
anyway i spoke for them once it's
unbelievable
and then that's how they fund a carrot
program it's unbelievable
yeah brilliant but but the whole hop is
the jingle
so what's the purpose when you're making
a commercial what's the purpose to sell
my product
but if i don't sell my product then who
cares whether or not it was a good
commercial
it's like the the old expression the
operation was a success
but the patient died
yeah so how are we defining success that
becomes the question
so the first one is life and that's for
everything in the world the world should
exist
all of it the entire brilla to be for
kurdish borough
as i mentioned last time right the
parakshira tells us that
that the the everything in the world
sings the songs
and then there's people which is the
purpose of the world
as rashi says after
why were the animals destroyed in the
marble and he brings two answers and one
answer is if there's no people who needs
the world
everything is here only for people
and the third one is people who
recognize that kurdish baruch
which is obviously the purpose of all
people
right and the final one is denasia
because that's our role in this world
and we need the resources
to make it possible
that's where ace of attacked us
right the mallet hits you in your leg he
hit he hit yakov in the leg
why because that's the support
in modern hebrew when they say you go
bankrupt it's push on regal
your leg went out and that's why asap
comes and says come with me to her say
here and i'll support you
this is this
so we say give us the resources to be
able to do what has to be done
let's provide a jewish education for
every child who wants one
even if they can't afford tuitions and
even if they can and it's breaking
families financially
wouldn't it be great if we could just
give everybody a jewish education
wouldn't it be great if we could have uh
you know uh
inspirational uh uh speakers traveling
the world
bringing the message of torah to people
in a
funny entertaining and yet inspiring and
meaningful way
uh wouldn't it be great if we could you
know
uh provide for everybody for all the
things that they need so that they can
be free just to serve a kurdish
that's the final thing we're asking for
asking for life we're asking for a life
of rahman
and we're asking for a life of good
and the final thing is the whole list
those are the additions and the only one
i did not deal with is of course the one
that is the most important and that is
and that we will do next time and uh
that's it for now
