Okay. in via
>> but but I born in Midnamic
you know my grandfather Rab Gman from
Mig
we live like few houses near my
grandfather.
>> Mhm. And from age zero, I'm going with
him, helping him whatever we can to do
good for him. So
>> okay,
>> I always we need to know. So my
grandfather is not
my grandmother she's my grandfather is
from Khalen. So all the house is may
have all the kind of every my
grandfather say every everything in
bringing to the house. So also in our
family and grossman family is like a
small uh of of of
love
vision everybody and shab
I tell you my story from I born in
>> Mhm. And from age zero, I remember my
grandfather opened the door and scream
my mother name and bringing like two
three kids to sleep over in our house.
Tell me figure out which school to put
them in.
Some of them some of them is the same.
Some of them meet odd cases the father
in jail or something like that.
They have like around 25 schools. So
tell me figure out which school to put
it in. [clears throat] We put them in my
my parents house in our house. So half
of my life I didn't sleep in my bed. I
sleep in my parents' bed and I give my
bed to someone else and I didn't feel
I I feel the best with that.
And after that around when I'm we be 14.
So my parents talked me
about I learned in
>> okay
>> from you know
>> and he say let's you maybe move to came
to and I didn't fit in in
a way because I want to do something not
only you know to to take care of myself
they're doing amazing job to learn to
you know I remember shove of the old and
I came to
to the old city and I met Rabbi D.
>> Mhm.
>> And
he took me to Kaban. It took me back,
took me I don't know how to say it
because I I learned all my life in
I'm I I got to I I got to learn in New
York. I be
>> Mhm.
>> small group for four years. I marry my
wife. She's from Flatbush which you go
and we decided we go to right away also
when we meet we met in the dates we talk
about
which kind of
we'll
No.
Yeah. Okay.
You know except everybody.
Yeah. is
in the platform.
>> Sure. I feel more Aish because I coming
from the same background.
>> Mhm. But coming I remember what is it
the first thing is catch me catch me
and he told me about I spoke with them
is not talking enough about you know
you know the older we don't see
seriously
vibe
>> so this is what I ask him
drinking dancing come on you
you know
that was the key question you know
something so me
say
if I didn't before I say if I tell you
now I I not remember if I say or not and
I need to say why
saying every morning
so if he's not forgive me Why is he
forgiving us? So what is all about? All
about is about the smell about to
prepare yourself to see the king. So we
don't have a fra about the various about
you know we need to only to prepare a
good clothing
a good cake made a good
and to love
this is
the literatur
It's like
>> talking only about positive you know
>> positive I'm saying
>> this is what catch me
is not something is you need to be
afraid for him like you know it's like a
policeman you see a policeman you go
down you make it slow you like the speed
and you're afraid oh see no it's not
that it's someone you run to him you
love him you hug him you see him you
Yeah.
>> Okay. Is the land in America
Okay.
the young couple we say let's make a CV
resume and to send to all the around the
world and let's met them in everybody
coming here let's see what's the options
and then after always in after sitting
in a year two years
>> okay
>> this is almost 99% from the people
sitting in co between one year to two to
prepare yourself meet
everything and then we go to so I sit in
in
meet a bunch of I mean interview make us
interview one of the others and I sit
with from Hong Kong yeah
>> and he told me special place it's called
Chundu it's a small settle 31 million
people
>> 31 million
>> yeah and un Balan University make
agreement with between University of
Balan to Sichuan University.
>> Bilan University
>> Balan University.
>> Okay.
>> Make a agreement with the Chinese
government. Sichuan University. This is
the name of
>> Sichuan University.
>> Yeah. In China in Chandu
>> and they will do a um
student team exchange.
>> Student exchange. 800 students going to
Israel and 800 800 students from Israel
coming to China.
>> So Chinese students
and 800 coming to to China
>> for two semesters. It's been around a
year and a half
>> from 800 we say for me Israel is also at
least 85 90% is is Jewish people.
>> Okay. I'm talking about let's say 70 700
people.
>> Mhm.
>> Besides may have also small small
community around 25 they're living there
and it's a good opportunity we can you
know every place may have student
exchange. So a lot of people also
students stay in the city. So the
>> so the community here growing and slowly
slowly
so when we need to go tell me they will
come right after
okay
ask my say
[clears throat] we need you because I
asked the someone I was willing to go
tell me I interview a lot but they're
not good for this position. I think I
hear about you and your wife a lot. I
think this is for you and I don't have
someone else. Okay, go maximum. It's not
good. Come back and you always can do sh
in China after.
>> Okay.
>> So 3 months after the after our wedding
we arrived in China. We didn't know
nothing about China and it's be like you
know like very fast.
>> So do direct flights from America?
>> No we had flight to Korea. Korea.
Chandu. 15 hours to Korea.
>> South Korea.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> After that 6 hours to Chandu. Arrive in
Chandu. Young couple.
And
we rent house small apartment. Sure.
I've been in Vietnam, in Thailand, in
Belgium.
Yeah, I know. Okay. I know in Asia
I be in India.
She's my cousin.
I'd be really close to Gab
three times.
>> Actually, I need to be there.
I I I go to New York in
if I'm not mistake
and because
tell me please stay another months and
then you know there's a lot of stuff we
need to take care of. We need to go to
Israel
of Mat of the kids whatever.
>> Yeah.
>> And I don't know people know about it.
>> Yeah.
isn't they need to go and I tell him
bring someone I'm already here 3 months
>> no they will take take I will take care
of the
>> okay
>> and I I tell him I he already from he
already slept me out another month I
don't know I will ask my mashia I ask my
mashia mashia tell me is she
You're already late for in almost a
month. Go back.
So
you say
getus what's it mean doesn't get kus
getus to all the world
>> to family to everybody you belong to the
yeshiva
you belong to yes if your parents ask
you come to a wedding you need to ask
your shoes
your brother
ask your shoes for
But Friday or tish or summer you're not
going home you're going to you have
options you can go home but also good
you you belong to to to you belong to
you belong you not belong to you don't
have a family and nobody you need to to
give yourself to so in the time you're
not learning you need to go to
vow always
needs something urgent.
Please send me a
Yeah.
Send you
taking care of they send you the to to
help
in touch with them. I'm listening. I
need a and I have a this is his name. He
need to come to me with
the organization.
Yeah. Yeah.
That's the beginning.
Yeah. Yeah.
Sometimes he have a name of he want
specific. Oh yeah.
>> Yeah. And he need to sign up for the
need also to sign up. I need to.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> So I I go back 3 weeks before the attack
in in Mumbai in India.
>> Yeah. And also
>> everything normal everything amazing and
forbidden we
every every day say in India we have
also businessmans and and schleers
coming and and
>> the backpackers
and this is something also give a big in
my life cuz I want to give myself
>> you want to give myself not in a way
give yourself in a way
So
saying no
and almost two three two three two three
two three two three two three two three
weeks after the I came back the attack
happened I need to be there was
this
affected the attack.
>> A good question. I don't know answer
till now. It's affect me a lot but in a
lot of corners first of all about
and also about not everything I have
answers.
I have a lot of questions. I have a big
list. This is thing number one
or two
and of believe we love him and this is
that
so
I don't remember exactly the the date
but I can send you send me
Right away after after I came back, I
tell him I came back and my left and
everything.
>> Yeah, I remember he sent me email.
Wow.
York
learning but we cannot open a safe I
mean we always mention you know what's
going on now what's going on now
and
this is something big give a big I think
to every
in the world every in the world
special
Yeah.
>> So,
China
in let's go back to China. So we came
okay we came 3 months after our wedding
we came to Chandu and
okay I we prepared we took we took our
small apartment like that
>> was chang
>> everything in Chinese nobody's speaking
English
>> this is first of all and everything is
difficult because you you want to buy a
sim card you need to sign up for my kan
in some you know so much papers.
Everything is a lot a lot of it's
communism country to open a bank took us
like a week to rent a house. It took us
a week. Everything is like really
difficult and especially in the
beginning you don't know how to do it.
Yeah. [clears throat]
>> So we raise around $50,000.
>> Yeah. has also help us around 25,000.
>> Yeah. And and then
we start and then we see what's going
every need to take care of yourself. I
mean everybody
under Americ
will always will be exactly. So all the
issu
under Americans have every every area
>> every country
>> every country some some some countries
have
to take out
to take care of
I'm under
what you mean under not pay me a salary
he's paying me And if I want to bring
another in my area, I need to ask him a
shoes and
in extreme situations whatever health or
something like that. So he's coming step
in.
>> Uhhuh.
>> So we start we start with that money.
And
it's be really difficult you know with
the power of
succeed and we came I remember when we
came to we came to Chandu I asked
where's the tell me everybody in the
bars in disco cuz Chandu is the night
life of China is a town from the
university
>> the town of town of the university also
silicon valley of China also the richest
people in China a lot of them live in
Chandu
>> and we have a lot of you know disco
bars. So I know for my grandfather you
know my grandfather is the disco rabbi.
So I have already the the address I say
and like I'm my grandfather say be the
same. I came to the bar I see purim in
middle of the day people dancing going
and in Shandu all the bars who taking
care of them Israelis is the
>> bar the bars the bat from the bars are
the Chinese
of the bars and also the barmans each
bar have around eight taking care one is
the barman one is that one is that you
know
>> als Als
the customers the Chinese not we don't
have the foreigners is maybe less of 1%
from the city
>> the bars the Israelis no
>> Israelis guilt in the bars the Chinese
>> Israelis marking money of the Chinese
people
>> okay
>> to measure tell you idea some one of the
bars can accept every day is accepting
around 25 people thousand
huge lagger
>> is huge like you know I mean but he's
divided the rooms blah blah blah you
know the t of the the bars maybe after
the interview I'll tell you I mean this
is something interesting so I came in
and they asked me what you doing here
someone die or you need a minion what do
you want I tell him uh I came to be with
you with
We are we don't like
we don't like listen we don't have we
don't have we don't have Eden come sit
together okay Rabbi can give you a
drink. Yes.
>> Speaking of a drink.
>> Oh
me and you to
I don't like the the word inspire.
Inspire is like inspire to do what we
need to do and then people other people
they will do what they need to do.
Sounds good to me. Oh my.
By the way,
so the part

So exactly like here say let's say
let's say rabbi I make you cocktails and
no cocktails is for woman's give me
something
>> something real
>> real
and from then it be the best
and slowly slowly
they came to kabad house after for
Friday night and some of them they never
saw
I never saw film
in kibuts. I have like seven from
kibbutz misra
>> misra
>> misra is kibuts in Israel.
>> Okay.
>> In that kibut we don't have we don't
have meat white meat you know.
>> Yeah. This is um the bone without any
I know
the the alter.
>> Okay. what we can do what we're talking
about the kind I don't know I didn't met
this I met the grand
>> okay
>> and
the want interesting and also we need to
know we're not coming
it's not
sister I mean I'm saying sister not to
make we're not selling you know what I
mean or the point is to every Jew to be
proud of Jew first of all and I have 10
minutes. This is the focus
with meet me. Yeah. Yeah, sure.
>> Yeah.
Yeah.
Villain
Shabas Jewish education.
No.
>> For him.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> Shabases. Oh, the
>> Okay.
>> And what are we missing?
What?
What are we missing? Missing one.
>> Missing two, I think.
How is this?
>> How is this all? Let's
>> do nine.
>> No, say 10.
Okay.
[snorts]
>> The point is every is connecting to
Yeah. And like we send email. If I send
you email, if I got the that.com,
the email not going through. So, right.
>> Did you forget the dot? I saygmail.com
>> right
>> I forget that that one one point
>> it's not very this is the 10 thing is if
you do that you fully fully cover is
will make sure you fully cover think
about it about each thing to learn to
cautious
if you do the other 10
But
this is the directions the Reb give us.
And the point is
not trying to convert people or you know
to we need to find the
with everyone. Tell you a story. Three
weeks ago we're sitting in Chandu.
>> Okay. And we have in
we're doing it's called a parliament
going with good scotch and cigars and a
bonfire like you know the the smaller.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> And we sitting together around 25 I
always preparing something about
connecting to sh a topic to talk. most
bring topics, you know, to make
everybody uh to tell them to come down,
you know, and then
everybody says topic
and I I tell him about again everybody
is connecting everybody
>> pental
so he's connecting yes and we try to
find some we talk about it a lot and I
tell I want please everybody sharing
share with them share
What is
>> exactly?
>> Okay.
>> And especially from their childhood cuz
they coming from from place 99% from
them they don't have a father didn't
and one of them
I changing the name let's call him
David.
>> Okay. David tell me I will my father
didn't in my parents house anything meet
and everything I said try say yeah I
have one thing say what his father go to
and bought a platter for shabas uh
>> yeah a platter okay and and he bought it
for what
still in yum keeper the eating from the
platter
They're not eating
>> from not
new new food
and we eating from the plas
once a year
film keeper all year take it out
plugged it everything like you tell me
the stress before I tell this is every
Friday every Friday I have the stress
before I look at
>> make sure the plot is working
>> yeah pl is working okay television and
everything but the platter everything in
a platter
every if you dig dig dig dig inside you
have a pintilate this pint is a fire you
know always mean be careful from fire
why fire spirit I put a little bit fire
here all the hours can be fire
>> it'll spread
>> spread all over
you need to find it only to put a little
bit gas and that's it or connect it to
someone else.
Imagine myself go to give me plat, you
know. [laughter]
>> Wow.
So in the bars, oh, so we're sitting
together and we connect with
we had around every shabas around 15.
>> I mean the host mentioned came in.
So I go to the market with my um cutting
board with a knife to buy fish to cut it
there to clean it there with my knife.
After we bought everything from the
market I mean not everything
>> fly chicken
>> fly chicken we bought from from Hong
Kong with suitcase.
>> Okay.
>> Flew to Hong Kong every months, every
two months. Full suitcase with meat and
chicken and bring it to Chandu. Bought
it to Chandu and spices etc. made a
container. Then once a year
>> from the spices
>> only black pepper about cashes and I'm
afraid to say in a broadcast because
someone can we know exactly which brand
to buy is under the
cashes all over all all over the
>> need to ask the because sometimes they
can be the same brand but they don't
have cashes
you need to ask the exactly They also in
okay they have list and need to talk to
them to ask me if they have cautious of
this factory.
>> Uhhuh.
>> Cuz sometimes it can be the same brand
and different factory. This is cautious.
This is this is not a serial number of
the
>> a lot of stuff people I see coming to us
and whatever eating chips.
Yeah. like coke, you know, all over the
world. The nut the chips I know is
they're using nut kosher oil
in China. They adding um
they're adding additive from
>> Mhm.
>> So we need to check exactly if this
product this serial number see already
you're doing.
>> Yeah, I'm trying. [laughter]
A mikv is doing. No, we don't have a M
in Chandu yet. To buy a property in
Chandu, it's cost around a,200
>> dollars.
>> Dollars and we don't have mortgage in
China. You come in suitcase, you put the
money and
>> yeah, and bam raise around 400. But what
we doing? We flying. My wife flying
every month. Not only my wife, another
six women's flying every month. Not
women's
>> plane. plane in the around 2:00 is need
to be there from the morning the flying
to Shanghai or Beij
on 3 hours.
>> Wow.
>> And then
come back some a lot of days special in
the summer is late coming the next day.
>> Yeah.
>> Is
expense can cost $1,000.
Besides the expenses, it's hard for us
to, you know, see
women's you see them if they're going
here and they're maybe someone can
scheme of but they're going
every month flying to the mikvah back
and forth
these women's if they're going in
whatever out
I'm not talking about my wife.
Yeah.
I had a lot of stories about Mika. But
the point is
if you light it is like and sure m is
not easy. So
to be a Jew, I'm saying to every we are
so what theb say all the time is like um
you know like in cash when you p it in
you know
>> no with also and also with like if I
want to cash a
>> so I put hard water yeah like whatever
whiches we need moment after is not ble
no when you're in the way if in the mood
of toilet you're not you're not getting
in. So if you're in the mood of toilet
in so you're not getting so
my head. But I see someone with this
like the guy made the story in David
meet the guy with platter.
>> Mhm.
>> And he fighting for cashes, fighting for
for for
light you up. See, wow.
Look what's kinder you have.
Let's go back to we came to Chandu.
Okay. 3 months after we go to Bras being
the Pes is coming. [clears throat]
Let's go. Purim Purim.
His name is Sassan.
>> Sassan.
>> No. When I met him, his name is San
is interesting story. He come to my
house then around
send you the picture after
and look like Japanese like Chinese.
I ask him who are you? What's your name?

the time Nazi the time of the war and to
move in the runway to Argentina.
Yeah. She had and he had a daughter. She
married to and she go to Japan and marry
a Japanese
Japanese
boy.
>> Mhm.
>> And and this is is and is the child
>> is the is is the is the Nazi
>> for a Nazi
>> and his grandmother is Jewish.
in the Nazi took
I don't know I didn't give details but I
have all the papers and everything
from lodge
>> wow
>> and her mother marry a Japanese boy and
what he can tell me tell me I tell you
what my grandmother told me what My

>> Texas.
>> Yeah, I can I can make your meeting.
>> I'm in it. We came around Texas in the
build.
>> Son moved to Texas.
>> Okay.
>> His mother also after Japan moved to
Texas.
>> Uhhuh.
living I not remember exactly where in
Texas I mean can connect you to anyway
the point in sitting in for in in
we put him film first time in his life
and
he met another American boy so he met
American boy he tell him he he tell him
tonight I'm going to kabad Jewish center
and what pull him. I'm also half Jewish
and what half Jewish you tell him the
story you full Jewish okay I will come
>> he didn't know what's his mean and we
tell him how much is and then we change
his names to
and till now putting film every day and
trying to keep cautious and we're in
touch every months every few
Now he's living in Texas.
>> Huh?
>> Yeah. So
after the pes
about
and
>> yeah.
>> Okay.
>> So I asked the where where I can rent we
make a already sent emails and
advertised
P please come. have around 250 people
register to the city.
>> Travelers, backpackers, businessmen. So,
and I didn't know where to do it. So, we
tried to rent a hotel home
>> like a ballroom.
>> Yeah.
>> Every hotel me rent. Every home me rent
after 2 three days. They call us say,
"Sorry, we want to cancel the contract
>> of us."
>> Say, "What's going on? What's happen?
The government cancelled the contract
one by one. tell him don't accept this
foreigner to make a event by you. I call
I I had a Jewish guy. I I met him
already Eton from the American consulate
said what? Please help me. What we do
tell I have good idea. What? Let's make
a birthday uh party to for myself. So
the the American council is Jewish. He
made a a birthday uh party
in Passover night. We make up the story.
Yeah. And you sign [clears throat] up.
Let's like he sign up all the papers and
everything and a hall in a hotel.
>> Yeah. You know,
>> I'm sure.
So he's hosting it.
>> He hosting that and we bringing the
food. Ah
>> is the m the first place and then
it's 1 hour and a half walking from the
hotel to us
hotel
second days
that tomorrow meals regular meals
but
to
go
in the hotel in the city the seding and
everything
>> also second sed only the first seder is
given big
>> so I ask the please help me maybe you
can lead me I don't know the way tell me
rabbi no problem I lead you with the
bicycles no please don't I lead you with
the phone you know with the map I cannot
go with the map no I need someone can

So
a few months after we came like on Shu's
time one day coming around 10 policeman
to house a house the same place
>> Ian
>> yeah I what's banan uh apartment
>> adira
>> in an apartment building
>> 120 m
>> how many people square
>> maybe 250 close small [clears throat]
one one room living room with uh we can
ask people Big porch pies against the
bone.
>> Huh?
>> Second of the porch.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> And one room is the storage fizzers and
everything. One room we live.
>> This is bedroom.
>> Iron bedroom.
>> Then oh. Oh, okay. This
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> I'm talking about the first year.
>> The first year
>> we are you see we have 13 hours to go
because we have 13 years in Chandu and
we are in the fifth year.
>> Okay.
And [clears throat] 10 policemen's
coming to the house say you need to come
with us. Okay. Right away I call
Abberson you know the oil
is in the oil. I mean every every day we
have so many
from all over the world. He bringing to
the oil all the time.
Okay.
>> To the
>> Yeah. I tell him please I didn't have
time to write to to to send and please
go inside mention my my name and my
mother and my my mother name and my wife
and her mother name and tell the rebba
police take us we don't know what where
we going but we need a
>> this is scary but in China the police
came and pushed
>> took us with the police car it took us
investigation 4 and a half hours
>> interrogation
>> yeah one room I I I my wife one room I I
question after questions after questions
>> give us water
you know it's scary
in the future
>> questions is visible
everything what we did you ask me why
you go in Starbucks you ask this someone
if he's Jewish he's German guy and I
think if you give me the list of the
Jewish people and not need to ask every
white face if he's a Jewish or not.
>> This is the result.
>> This the question they show me what they
know what me talking in the phone ask me
how is not falling off. This is one of
the smartest questions you know
a lot of
phone. [snorts]
>> Yeah.
I think also here but nobody tell you
they ask me a lot of question about
chabas about about chabas why you not
going why you going in the stairs not in
the elevator what
what's the meaning of that you know
questions after questions then he open
his drawer taking a small picture you
know the reb's picture with the address
of the oil in the back yeah
>> and the and philos there a business
card.
>> Yeah. Ask him who is this guy? Tell him
like come up to my mind like it's after
4 and a half hours. Yeah. Tell him this
is my father. You ask me also you have a
huge picture in the your center about
this guy who's this is my father. Pick
up the phone start to speak Chinese.
Ching ching.
He tell me from this is your brother.
Tell him yes.
>> This is your brother. Yes. Say, "Ah,
okay. No problem. You can go. You can
go." You see also the Chinese person.
No. So,
investigation.
So yeah, maybe it's opposite. My wife,
she came out. She said, "You see, we are
the like the we're going to jail almost,
you know, like
Yeah. And
we
the education I give my kids, education
I get, I got my wife got is to think
about mission, not to think about
myself. I see a lot of stuff me doing
[snorts]
me doing for
I want to be more hik. I want to be more
mush. No, no, take out yourself from the
picture. The target is target
not in a way you suffer. You do it in
with ice here.
>> Mhm. But the
you think about nothing I make myself
more
>> side effect
>> maybe not
>> this is not the goal
>> maybe not you tell me I be more I'm I'm
not he's not a real estate agent I'm to
have more Grenaden or to be more like
The problem I see these days everybody
talking about anxiety and stuff like
that. Why? Because people thinking too
much of myself, think about someone
else. How I feel, how I d how I go.
You know what I mean? Mhm. Stop.
Think about the mission.
Sure. Sure.
is anxiety
99% of anxiety not
is not productive
come to be
yeah no it's not
terrible
of them
>> tell me more about chandu
>> so chandu This is a Silicon Valley of
China.
>> You want more water by the way?
>> Yeah, please. Thank you.
>> So do the Changdu [snorts] is a silent
G. It says Chandu or the Changu. Well,
yeah.
>> Okay.
>> This is how we say
this is the beautiful city.
>> Yours is shine.
>> Beautiful city. Ch China is the 2035.
>> They're in the future.
>> The future. You pay me the face. You you
you going everything is like everything
technologic and clean and good. The
Chinese people they're really nice.
The the nice they come the
>> idol.
>> Yeah. More nice. Sure. Every every
country have his problems.
And the point of chandas is a relaxed
people.
>> Relaxed.
>> Relaxed people. Stores open 9:00.
like minion. You know what I mean?
>> 9:00 in the morning, the starting the
day.
I made it because the stores open at
11:00.
>> Okay. So, I didn't know.
>> Yeah. Unless it's a food store, a
clothing store.
>> In Israel, everybody start 7 8:00 in the
morning.
>> And
Chandu is a place bringing also
travelers backpackers, businessmans.
>> It's the gateway to Tibet, right?
>> Yeah.
And a lot of people passed by in gender.
And this is beautiful. When you see in
the house, he opened the door of the
house. And you seem
backpacker.
He finished the army and a me in the
army and a businessman, a traveler,
misnik. All the kind of people.
Everybody feel like
>> so the is from the
community.
So I'm sorry. Let's go back. Let's make
it quick from after. Okay. After we stay
in Chandu, we go back. No, after Per
waiting for
>> Balan

arrive and got a phone call from the
dean of the Balan and tell me I'm sorry
Rabbi the

every day we had a job to
go back to New York and sending me and
my wife saying now a young couple have
responsibility, we have kids, what we do
and we have a lot of options
in other places
and me saying we go to the go to the go
to the we came out to the video the
video say speaking about at you know
when you go out
videobre
is speaking about
is not about quantity. It's about
quality. Quality is individual
one is like
you see this is more answer from that we
cannot get beside me going back and this
is the baby. Oh yeah, he came back to
Chandu
and a lot of students came by to learn
Chinese to learn Chinese
exchange kind of came
>> around 200 students came after

>> I sit with them after in in in the hotel
why you decided to open in Chandu
you're right may I had a lot of options
may have also better cities give economy
cities in China and we decided Chandum
we say if the strategic people decided
to open in Chandum this mean this is the
place you know
>> wow
>> you don't know
this is the point
of WhatsApp send a message on WhatsApp
to 9297775425
that's 929-7775425

internet access. I'm jealous of you. You
can still call. We can always hear it in
all episodes of the hotline. The phone
number is 6054771888.
That's 6054771888.
>> Anyway, we had also the Israeli
government open Israeli consulate. We
had a kindergarten school
base and then
>> every around 200 150 people
Okay.
>> Co came from a community around 600
people, 500 people in two weeks after
everything start in in in one
everybody move out
>> from Chandu to Israel, from Chandu to
Israel to to United States or everybody
to
China.
in China
left only around 25
and I didn't know what to do but I ask
you
>> yeah tell me let's you need to speak
melo
like to get advice everybody tell me you
need to come out
>> leave
>> huh
>> in the beginning
>> yeah I'm talking about when this came to
me more strong and we had quarantine for
two months straight three months
straight
everyday PCR.
>> Yeah.
>> On the ground in China the we saw the
videos and the pictures everybody saw
people go in the street and fell. You
remember the story first videos we see.
We saw the same thing.
>> Wasn't that fake
fake?
>> This is what I hear also. I hear the
same. I don't have more information from
you.
>> Okay.
>> But we the government closed everybody
in the houses.
>> So
I have a container in the basement
container of food that we send we
government give each family rice and
noodles and some basic delivery.
>> Yeah. to each house
>> chocolate doesn't matter
>> nothing
>> okay
>> and doctor
I didn't have experience with that if
someone need to go to a doctor so you
need to get special permission and
special car will take you also the need
to know in China if you had co that time
so we take you to quarantine 14 days in
a government place in a government
quarantine
And more from that if you have a child
in no cons they had a child had cover.
>> Yeah.
>> They took only the child.
>> Yeah.
>> This is this is crazy.
>> Yeah. And this is
>> I can't convey
>> what is more I be afraid the most that
time is one of my kids something
>> if they get Yeah.
Every day we make you PCR test coming to
your house and do the PCR in the nose.
Yeah. mandatory.
And if so, you know what a kids 2 year
old three year old always they have
coughing they have you know noral we go
crazy and put them showers we're afraid
have coughing near the guy coming in the
white clothes it's done
this is China
>> what would they
Yeah.
>> Okay.
With a picture with a passport. Okay. Is
you like immigration? Yes. Yes. Yes.
>> Wow.
Every day. And yet
from the government.
>> Sure. But I get asked about that a lot
and I but Mr.
What's my our our grand grandfathers
grandmothers in in Poland and Russia
what they did so okay everybody say we
are the door of the social media we are
the door of reality and this reality
this is to give to others and but we
need to be control all the time this is
what I asked him tell me speak me to
like make a zoom call together decided
now is the time to go it's already too
much Because you cannot help other you
>> stuck two months already in
>> and Alander is not stuck.
>> Exactly. So what you can help the same
thing you can help in and what it can be
you and your wife and your kids can be
crazy from that. Imagine now you there
you cannot go out nothing.
I'm talking two three two months
straight not.
Yeah.
Kab so the portrait had the place I mean
not someone in a in a permit
>> got me space mention
>> but is how much you can stay in the one
place
>> and we go to New York and we we didn't
know what's going on in China was will
be in China to come back to China we
that time we need a um
>> special permit
>> special permit to come
>> you know how long is the quarantine
>> uh 14 days and in the government
counting and 14 days in house.
Yeah.
>> Wow.
So after 7 8 months we saw around 20
people 30 people came back and
>> soft 2020 like December time. Hanukkah.
>> After Hanukkah.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah. after Hanukkah and
we decided we go back.
>> We be in the beginning be upate.
>> Okay.
>> Thank you. Pan came.
>> Okay.
>> He's a good friend of mine.
No, he's a he's a
great
>> a supporter of
supporter for a lot of things. And he I
call him penny what me do they tell me
doy you know now so that time in New
York everybody be afraid you know
especially someone coming from China you
cannot go to
>> give me our substate
>> not using that
>> I can name those no problem so he I
remember to put the heat there is take
time tell because the pipes can pipe
whatever we came to upstate me live
upstate by itself on 4 months
New York.
>> Woodidge, Woodburn,
>> Woodridge.
>> Do that grocery.
>> Yeah, of course. Awesome. We go you can
we go to the city every every week. Go
to the oily kettle store, you know.
>> Fill up the car.
>> And after that, we go to Florida.
>> Okay.
>> Around 4 months. And then we go
[clears throat] back to Chandu. Go back
to Chandu.
in quarantine in government quarantine
for two weeks.
>> So Rabbi Gber from Shanghai send us food
every day in Shanghai. Yeah, they're
allowed they're allowed to to
>> messenger services and okay
>> and two weeks in a plane he didn't
>> came to a plane he didn't
>> every day we got got the food and but
think me yourself with with five kids in
a a normal room in hotel two beds in the
beginning they want to separate two
rooms so you cannot
He say no. The the the guy taking taking
care of the government and saying one
one room is you with two kids. One room
you wife and three kids do together with
two beds small room normal room like
like here
for two weeks
some days. Yeah. But yeah, we talk with
my kids. They say the most fun time they
had in the world
in all life has been the time of
counting
>> talk. Is that true? Why was it so good?
>> Family time.
>> We play on the bed, under bed, we jump.
We you know pillow fights and we do
everything. We brought a lot of games.
Yeah, they're good. We make schedule sh
in the morning at breakfast. make it
also fun what I'm trying we had I had
time it's really hard for me how much
you can be in you know in the same room
you have no idea what's going to happen
yeah two weeks and then
And they're not allowed to go out.
Nothing. They're closing you gate. What
mean?
>> The government put like a sticker like
hologram.
>> If you open it is ripping up.
Okay. But if you open it, you know, you
ruin that in the government or
something. Whatever.
Yeah. Um [snorts] they
>> they they they welded people into their
homes. They they they they locked the
doors. You couldn't leave.
>> But now the community growing slowly.
We have now around 100 people in the
community
and we learn
how much is
you see and we learn every day sometimes
I I think to myself I spoke with other I
tell him imagine it is coming for
big with a lot of people a few thousand
of people tell me come to me I I I maybe
take care of 5,000 people. How much
people you taking care of 100 people you
can give a lot more
tell them like you come sometimes you
come to the sh you want to learn
something you have so much swing open
this book no that book that book you
know you waste like a lot of time 20
books I know which day I open this book
is it Monday I open this book this is
talking about every Jew every Eid is
like like um my family members and I
know exactly I not need CRM for that.
>> Mhm.
And we see the impact impact is not only
to I mean sure every mitzvah is bringing
mashia and everything of that mitzvah of
how much people connecting together and
how much they helping others and every
one of them come to be another
tell you a story happened to me two
weeks ago I be in deal
New Jersey meeting every day at another
meeting
and the guy He's been in a kabalas for
around seven 7 months. We will connect
and he's coming from the Syrian
community.
>> Syrian community.
>> Syrian community. And I tell them, you
know, China.
>> Yeah. For 7 months.
>> Gabb in in Chandu for 7 months.
>> Okay.
>> And coming from the Syrian community and
I spoke with them a lot about two
things. I spoke with them with them. I
changing his name to David and not
Allah.
Okay.
David two things we have idiot you know
in the s community we have something
beautiful
a from the old rabbis already 100 years
to not marry anti marriage
>> the last the only thing the only
community
they have zero almost almost zero inter
marriage
>> was the is the serious I tell him I saw
is a little bit going around tell him
you need a family you cannot going like
that you know keep keep you tradition
>> in China
>> China is
>> and the second thing I tell Phil I know
he's ask for you cautious and everything
Phil this is
okay last shabas before you go tell him
David I want if you can give me a
promise me one thing in one the next
here put film every day. Okay. Tell me
no problem.
And you go deal at the crazy meetings
after meetings fundraising for
I know David is there is there also the
last day Thursday tell myself I push it
maybe I come I will come next time.
>> I was but I didn't have time. tell
myself no, why am fundraising money for
them? So I tell the wait I need to
fundraising money for you cancel a
meeting 10:00 I tell I call I call David
I want to meet you David how are you
how are you don't crazy how you call me
now tell I'm in deal I want to see you I
can see you in 10 minutes tell me sure
send me the address and he got crazy
tell I ask him what's what's going on
tell me like that story this morning he
took a shower
and he want to go with few with friends
to the beach in in in deal and he think
to himself I don't have time to put fill
in but I promise Rabbi Dovi to put fill
in say okay I promise the the rabbi
that's it let's move on it's already 3 4
months after I move from Chandu why I
need to start to keep the promise come
out from the shower who calling
I'm calling to meet them wow Oh,
>> and he put Phil and tell me, "Rabbi, I'm
not will I'm not I'm not going to stop
anymore."
>> He got the message.
>> Got the message. But see, Hashem push
you push me to be the right
minute.
Eating is in the shower and get a
message. They say, "Okay, do you must
cancel the meeting. You go."
>> Wow.
Then mention
so the panda this is Chandu is the panda
base for
>> the whole world
>> the world for the world
right
now don't let because people have
sickness and they can make the panda
sick
cost a lot of money can can offer you.
Yeah, I I find you figure it out.
>> Yeah, figure it out.
>> Okay.
>> And this is Chand is the base of the
pandm have a lot of uh villages around
beautiful villages. raising rice
>> and rice
>> and rice and and to see the villages in
China is beautiful nature
>> a lot
>> parks
>> parks Joago is called this is the
beautiful beautiful park say people
flying from all over the world to see it
also in China this is something
beautiful to see also the
ch Chinese old version and from houses
So streets and also we have near them we
have like the global center you can
search
>> the biggest mall in the world
>> plots
>> and this is China China you can see
special chandum we have you can see
everything you can see culture future
everything
similarity
The struggle was China
culture and art and music and poetry and
the same.
They're so unbelievably advanced.
So I if I if I will speak about China,
everybody can think I'm I'm Chinese
patriot and I'm a spy in United States
or whatever what but we see the culture
Chinese culture coming from by the way
it's not religious culture
religious
>> also then also then
>> I feel it's today
>> no it's a way to live all the Chinese
medicine and if you see a lot of the
Chinese medicine and the Chinese recipe
and everything is you see the raam see
>> similarities.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> And
every is beautiful to see it there. And
move on from that there is
someone not coming to the parents. The
parents can go to the can call the
police. My son didn't come to me for
months and the son get a fine.
>> A fine or he gets the sesame points. You
>> know besides the three points he get a
fine.
>> Okay.
And the about
let me speaking here when you see in say
about the iPhones and about the
technology and in China the internet is
kosher. So how social get filtered?
>> You cannot filtered.
No, in China
all the social media is control
and you cannot come into the places in
in the internet
>> nothing and don't they know what is good
for you and they choose for you what is
good for you cuz know sometimes people
at the time was thinking that we need
someone to help him
>> to to go to the right place and
the problem what's happened last I think
eight years ago a lot of
modernizia
or American culture come to China.
>> Okay. and ruin the people. Start to ruin
the people
>> in what?
>> Talking about
all the
uh uh mod all the moda
>> the styles
>> styles coming from whatever from Gucci
muchi from from all over the world
coming to China. Now the Chinese
government control that cuz we see we
have a beautiful c culture we have a
beautiful background and this is what we
need to go.
Okay.
Youth in
>> in China you're not allowed to use Tik
Tok. You cannot use Tik Tok.
>> What's it called? Dian
>> Dian is something else. same company but
the Chinese Tik Tok move on that usually
in in the D
app when if gold want to go in the app
>> Mhm. And to make a video, we have like
directions. How long is the sleeves and
how everything? Yeah. If not, this is
going off.
Upload.
>> Yeah.
>> To do a time limit.
>> Yes.
>> I think 45 minutes. Am I mistake?
>> 45 minutes. And the they can use only
the iPad
>> Nishka phone
>> nishka phone only iPad and they have 45
minutes
>> and if they using father computer or
something else the government can come
in to see and you can get a big fight
anything [snorts] too much of anything
is not good internet and it's a waste of
time it's not good for mental health in
mention
the Chinese government
secures. I mean I putting a phone
outside and in the street and I go I
come I will come after hours will be
there nobody will touch it.
>> Well I know
>> I know and you know
>> and nobody go me the guns in China
>> also policemen.
>> No guns. No guns. Only in the airport
you can see two policeman's go with the
guns. Why? Because we not need the guns
to afraid people. Everything is in
control.
No.
Now if you're going
and each time we give us another you're
going the good way
is
connected.
Yeah.
Also my uncle is
okay.
We speaking together every day.
Every
>> day.
Yeah, every day also give him not only
direction me learning and I learn about
obviously so they give me the power and
what I also the most what I think about
my zera thinking big don't think small
always think big and do
Yeah. Yeah. Also in the last 10 years

around the world to help him.
>> Uh-huh. In in that budget in China
>> around 250.
>> 250,000. Yeah.
>> Mikvah
>> now 700.
>> 700. Oh, they become 700 mv the permits.
raise around 500
>> in this this is the the project
>> when you're writing the check now or
after
>> if if I open my bank account after the
thing and there's 700 in there I give it
all to you
um
>> I would be very happy
projects for the future in
what's the most pressing
Everybody I speaking with thinking about
mikvah is an important thing to do and
sure we want to offer a kindergarten
again and other but we will do that we
can rent we can mikvah this
need to have a mikvah and sometimes to
hurts me to see women's canotenv
to do it.
>> Mhm.
>> Okay.
China.
>> So came seven years ago. I had a baby
