I want to I want to for a few minutes. I'm going to get to the person Danny King, the person Ellie Sham in a few minutes. Last night I went to the King family, Danny King's parents, his precious father of Yakov, his mother, his siblings, Svi Leora, the his sister, his brothers. The family had a gathering, a memorial, a a gathering, a yard site gathering for Donnie King. It's the 15th yard site. 15 years ago, Donnie was in this yeshiva and he was nifer in an accident on the way to yeshiva. Donnie was nif. Now, I want to express you're going to I was going last night to a 15th yard site. And I'm not stupid. I know I'd be asked to speak. I'm a loud mouth who likes talking. So, you know, I usually will oblige. You want to speak? >> Speak. >> And I knew I'd be asked to speak, >> but I told myself that I'm not preparing what I'm saying. And your instinct is, okay, what are you going to say? What are you going to say? No, Danielle, don't do that. Come and feel the event. Come to the parents. Come with the family. Come with the friends. There were a lot of old Waterberry guys. They're guys married with a number of children. the the guys there Donny's friends we are 15 years ago >> Donniey's friends range they were 18 17 and 16 15 years old it was like the school is today there no real grades he officially 11th gradeish but he had friends from 12th grade dorm counts were his friends so the age were from 31 to 35 36 year olds there guys married with children building families Some people some could still be single and looking finding their way. But I went to this event to Donniey's yard gathering not knowing what I would see. I haven't been there in a couple of years probably wrongfully. We make a gathering in yeshiva the last many many years. I probably should have gone to the family thing. My own mistake not going. I like the family. I like Danny and being with his family makes sense. Last night I went I went to the family thing. I want to say I was amazed. It was actually beautiful. It was very vibrant. There was not trying. There wasn't an attempt to be sad serious. This is I was very but it was so energetic. There's an old Waterberry guy David Lowinger there. He's an angel and he was tumbling with the guys. He's beautiful. I set him up. He's actually a wicked tennis player and mayor. I like when guys today are close to old guys. He's not old. He's a young he's a young father of a couple and a beautiful father of Noah, his wonderful children. But I actually they played tennis together in LA. I made the sh and they I think they each won once. But David was there and Avi Marmmerstein an old Talmet of Rab Ras who is married also with children and Avi Marmmerstein was there last night at the gathering and and Zevy Rubin was beautiful. Zi Rubbert was at the gathering and Kano Herz, one of the all-time greats here, Ben, he was at the gathering. Just a really special gathering. I want to say what hit me. It was so energetic. Now, if you're gathering yearly, if you're gathering yearly for like an event, a tragedy, and a difficulty that happened, you would expect over the years like the energy would. It's the 15th year and the gathering had a headlike there was a sense Donniey's friends and the king family beautiful family now I'm not saying talk about the pain lessening and missing and lessening but you'd expect a certain almost lack of energy it's the 15th yards I gathering and it was fire beautiful it was like the his father Yakob King is an incredible person a very loving person when Danny was in the yeshiva. Guys loved going to that house. Guys like watching football and they're big sports fans. Donniey's brothers were cool. Donnie is cool and and guys love watching the games there. The house was one of these beautiful We have certain Waterberry homes that are so appreciated that our guys have like a space to hang out. Eton's home. Many many Waterberry guys have been in Eton's home. I very much I spoke about you playing Davim tennis as with Davim last night but I want to say this 15th yard site gathering was so energetic and beautiful. Before I talk about Donnie or Ellie I want to talk about them. I want to express that when I felt Shimmy that it was so energetic and alive is stays and Donnie is in he exists. That's not a friendship that was he's my friend. Donnie King's my friend. He is my friend. Not he was my friend. Donnie is my friend. Now I certainly miss having him in coming to an event and I appreciate all the guys that we could hug each other joke together and speak and I don't have that opportunity right now with Danny telly rejoins us with I don't have that opportunity but I want to express that the nishama continues. I really believe there's a place called Aba and I want to say the energy at this thing at this was the ri was like you felt there because guys are still friends with him not they were they are they are friends with him I want to say to the my father's own yard my my own father's yard site's coming in a week and I want to express that my relationship to my father is not was it is and and I think about him and know he thinks about me that he and things he could do for me. We say the should be a shay things he could do for my family, for the Ros's family, for all his children he does and and the nish is here and present. It says on the yard site specifically, it's posit to me that Donnie King is listening right now. I promise you. I believe Danny King, this guy Daniel believes that Donnie King is listening right now. How do I know that? Maybe he's not. The Gar says, "Say your good about me because I am there." It's a that is talking about the I can't prove that to the yard site, but that I've I've researched that the namas is allowed and comes down the three days surrounding the yard site. people can feel the the mace more and be connected even more to him. And I want to express this in a shama. We're all nishamas. None of us can ever picture not being. [clears throat] No human being can picture not being. You know why? Because you'll never not be because you're an is forever peace of and we have namas. I want to express that the yard site was like a testament that people are friends with Donnie that doesn't get stale. Donnie was there. We were so like it was such a warmth and a vibrancy and a it was like a beautiful gathering. It was so there was so many hugs but like meaningful hugs. So it's interesting. I'm going to speak about Donnie and Ellie. D they were both big friendship guys. Donnie was very cool. It's always important to me the coolest kids in the massa always the dream and the hope and this is how it was. It's tragic when a guy is cool and it's used for nothing. That's a tragedy. He's the big varsity guy. He's goodlooking. He's charismatic and like others don't gain. I think that's like tragic. Somebody has a standing. The basic of yiddesh kite is where you have standing others gain from your standing. You're comfortable so people around you will be comfortable. If you're a hot chat varsity guy so your good morning means something. So give good mornings to not utilize that. What a waste. So what it's so precious though coolness is very precious. I I a guy told me his rebi said there's no such thing as cool. I don't like that there is such a thing as cool. I don't like a denial of reality. There's such a thing as environments people who are cool. Everybody likes that guy. Charisma, these are real things. So to say there's no such thing as cool, that's like just silly. There is such a thing as cool. Utilize it. They're standing. A rich person. People listen to their words because they're rich. >> We I don't like pretend. Ah, who cares? Rich, rich, no matter the guy's rich. That's how Hashem made us all. We see a rich guy like, whoa. The garris you know the garus says about rich p rich people of people listen to their words to say it doesn't matter somebody's it doesn't matter people listen to the rich guy we can make fun of society we could say that's crazy it shouldn't be that way it is that way now if somebody's rich use that response resp responsibly people are listening to you say nice things the garra says that rich people gar rich people lose their money if They don't take advantage the fact that they're rich to encourage people. Their words are listened to. Do something with it. Donnie King was good-looking, was very good-looking. Donnie King was a superior athlete. People liked him. He was a cool guy. He used his coolness. Other people, the whole school was lucky because he was cool. He shared it. He used it. It was like meant to the benefit of other people. That's crazy. That's so that's so beautiful when you take your mileus. So I want to express that here Danny I'm talking about Danny first only because that's the ys that I went to because hashem I'm going to talk about Ellie in a few minutes but but I just want to express that the nishama endures and exists and is around. I want to say that it's funny to talk about Di as good-looking. Why would you talk about his good looks? He's an shama now. I want to express because he used his good looks to make other people feel very good. He was cool. People liked him. His good looks still matter today. That he's a good athlete. I remember watching a football game and telling my kids that the best football player we've ever had in Yeshiva is Donnie King. He was a crazy It might still be true. I don't know for sure. There are definitely people Ellieoken would have a say about that. Dan Stein would have a say. There are plenty of upandcomers over the years who would have a big say. Schlommoer is a really good football player. So it's there are plenty of people that could have a say about this. I want to see Ari get a chance to watch fully but I heard you have game. But um I do want to express that why am I saying at a yard site gathering [clears throat] for Danny that he was a good football player. That's odd. Does that matter? And the answer is it absolutely matters because he utilized it. because we were all blessed. His coolness and worth itness, if you will, if that's a word, it benefited others around him. We're 15 years later and the friends still feel energized by him, by what he gave us, by his warmth, by his care. If I could just tell you, I'm don't like when people pretend things after somebody's gone. And I want to say that while he was alive, anybody would have said this about him. Donnie was somebody whose gifts whose physical gifts were like utilized for other people. It was so beneficial for everybody around that it actually matters 15 years later that this nishama used its physical gifts in such a beautiful way that's like precious that's like really important. The garra says the garra says that after you ga something becomes yours after you toil things become yours. gifts we have were given by God. They're not ours. But when we utilize them, right, they're ours forever. That Donnie is good-looking. It's his, he's good-looking today because we gained from his good looks. He's athletic today because we gained it was utilized, right? So that's the first thing I want to say about Danny. I want to talk about just the first thing I want to like in remembrance of him is to speak about is to talk about using our gifts for for good purposes not to minimize them. People have gifts. It's funny if a guy doesn't know he's good-looking. He's charism. I'm not saying this to be funny or to like to lose folks. Mayor is an extreme. was a wicked tennis player and people liked in in Sulamon people went to watch and play it that matters that's beautiful that's a nice thing and actually has space all of a sudden well people this is the people enjoy people watch all of a sudden the good morning means something the hello means something not that not that that gives power and meaning for a person to ignore that is like is very silly and Donnie is somebody whose gifts and tools were utilized for the Yashim was a better place. The amount of guys that felt cool because he was cool. We were all cooler. It's very neat to me when a guy who's blessed with skills uses for somebody else, everybody like gains with it. There's a r who my wife and I merited to be very close to. His name is Schlommo Ginger and he's somebody my wife and I miss terribly. He was somebody who had a very good social standing in Lakewood. He was accepted as a through him. Hundreds perhaps thousands of yidden were like accepted to the community. A lot of people maybe wouldn't have had a standing through his standing they got a standing. Ariel, you're a wicked football player. I enjoyed watching you. Good quarterback. Good quarterback. Excellent. I'm proud of you. But through through Regisinger's standing many people had a standing and to me that's like such a cool thing to notice your standing to share it. It's a basic thing in Yadus in Yiddish. If I had to say literally top 10 things in Yiddisha, it's 36 times in the Tus to love the foreigner to understand love a foreigner means wherever you're comfortable wherever you have the advantage wherever you have something good share it share it bring others give you have standing let others have that's what a sager in a sophisticated way means that's what it says Di was a guy his standing made a He made a whole yeshiva cool. It's possible we're still cool today. Starting from him, we all felt cool. Now, if the cool guy snobs everybody else out and doesn't share and is actually everybody's less cool. I can't hand My daughter told me we ran a a we had this summer a girls a girls camp for a lot of sisters, Waterberry guys. We ran a girls camp. I rust his daughter. I say we I Russ his daughter and ran a girls camp. My daughter was so pumped that the camp had this like had this thing that one person's everybody was cool. Everybody was part of it. Wasn't like I'm cool snob it. That's so sad. That's so opposite the terra of one person has like a social ability and other people are put down for it. That's so that's horrible. It's It's like the opposite of how Kashm constructed the world. That's the opposite of Tyra Zevi. So happy you're back. Welcome home. Welcome home. Welcome home. Really happy you're back. [applause] Really happy. Don't ever leave me again. I really feel good to be around you. Beautiful breath of fresh air. But um but this the the Zevia our world's meant and I beg everybody to understand this is Tyra. Is it always practice? We have to be better to our yiddishkite. This is like yiddishkite 101. If I had a if somebody wanted to learn Judaism top 10 like things and I say that not as one man's opinion. The tyra repeats over and over. Aba sager love the foreigner. What that saying is wherever you have power wherever you have say wherever you have comfort bring in bring in share it. That was Danny. That was Danny King Dilak his father is that way people love going to the home that was like room for people I want to say to the one of the basic things of our yeshiva one of the basic things and I will talk more about Dani Ellie Shra was one of the leaders of the yeshiva was one of the leaders of the yeshiva was just a incredibly growing a tal a growing person step by step growing beautifully growing beautifully adding in such a beautiful one of the leaders of the yeshiva and the basic thing here is there's space for people make space for another person but like real but real not a pretend not in a nebic way that's not what it is we're stupid to cut people off we lose the world it's not in a way of neb that no like space for people because we need people because we need everybody because people count because people count and we need people. So I Ellie Ellie Shra Elio Beni was somebody who who embodied this like a leader who made space for others. If anybody what do you say fellow Levite I want to I want to make a pitch just in Ellie's memory and I'm saying this not like an agenda thing. I'm I'm coming from Ellie. He loved the davinings here. I do want to make a pitch. The prayers here are really beautiful. I want to make a pitch. Join the davings. So nice. Come for shakness. Come for min come for I want to ask the guys to help make the dings nice to pray talk to Hashem there's an innocence to the prayer here an unforced chill a mat people are talking to hashem specifically prayer is huge a human beings meant to pray specifically public prayer so nice a minion a group of yen praying toem together a group of people come together and as a group we we talk to hashem because it's valuable I want to I want Express the topic of cavana is a very funny topic schlom. If you ever contemplate the topic of cavana of intention or else very very funny could you imagine shimmy a guy having cavana when he talks to his wife guri and I speak do you have cavana that'll be a really bad chill that'll be a really bad chill you're like rebie so happy to see anybody would say shut up like what like what as do we have kavana when we But just show up to each other. Cavana is a very misused topic. I'm not talking not to come but bring yourself like really come to the prayers and like say the words. Now he said if you can know what it means the best and if you don't know what it means say the words the words Gisler always calls the words of Cl. Our words the words that Kazal taught us to say but like really come with your personality like show up to this. I I go back to this a lot. I talk about Ry Russ once trying to convince the guy to come to sheer. It's like you don't understand. I don't want you in sheer behavior. I literally don't want he was saying throw spitballs. I don't even remember who the guy you were talking to. It's a long time ago. But I remember I Russ telling you like I really want you and show you. Whatever you do, do you will I come to if it means throwing like I really like I want you the prayers even when I ask guys to I I'll quiet the guys. I want a certain decorum but I want the guy to show up him with his smile. I asked the guys and Ellie Sham was a big part of the minyamir. He liked the minyanimir. He had a pride that he was coming. He was a big part one of the one of the guys who was here. He built up to that. It was after being here for a while and he cared about the prayers. I do want to encourage us all. I want to make a strengthening of showing up to Nyan. It's funny. I have Etan saying, "Let's go. We need you here." And I like that. I like that. Please stay on my case. Don't give up on me. Thank you, Eton. Etan is one of the one of the guys who are here. And I want to say with Ellie this beautiful growing person he was a very like warm part of the minion and the minion is so nice when you have a core of people who are just positive if anybody looks in yeshiva aton long long long years good successful years there's a warmth to that even that he encourages me to come I promise just you being here makes me want to come Ellie was like that he was a part of the minion you wanted to come to see him and him to see us. I like when guys come in the minion. There's a certain yo and everybody like there's an excitement in the room. He's here. I'm asking the come join the prayers in a nice not giving marks and scores and timing when you're there or when you leave. But like pap join the minion support. Did we get a minion this morning pretty easily? Yes. >> Okay. Did we get a minion relatively easily this morning? >> Okay. Fair. Fair. Fair. Fair. Right next to Shia, it's interesting. Ellie and Donnie passed away 15 years ago. >> What? >> It's about 9:30. >> Come. I want y and bring >> it's between 9:20 and 9:30. >> I like that. I like that. The sh D and Ellie were nif onesh. Today is the 10th day of and 15 years there and it's a day apart from Mayu's yard. Tomorrow, tonight and tomorrow is Mayu's yard. So the song that was very like associated with them was called the Ramaneshma. Rael Alban was crying for her children. That's a song that was very linked and we sang that a lot. The comfort of a mother's cry for her children. They wore nifar two days a day apart from ramenu's yard site. I once read an article on the when we had a safe for Danny and Ellie. So I was in Ray Overlander final's house and simal liner punk was in town. The gathering in Overlander's house was the world. It was an event in my life. I've been very few events like that in my life. and the singing in his house and they and Sim Khalina was in town and somebody actually do you remember Ashley somebody and he sang Kobarama I was reading a newspaper interview with Sim Kalina and somebody asked him you've sung Karama hundreds of times on when was the most meaningful time you ever sang it and he said in what yeah yeah and he sang it there I want to ask the guys if we could singish Rahulu crying for her children and I want to express that we have this big tanu who we asked to cry for it's interesting there's a famous story the guys know the song mama it's based on a story the rashiva of the mir was a incredible heart besides being a brilliant mind was a big heart my father was a student of hashem said to raim Please stop crying. Levitz went to her Kev to Kev Rahul and he said I know Hashem asked you to stop crying but he wants children to cry to their parents and a child lays please cry mama cry for us that's is that what he said he said please cry for we need you mama and for people and it's the went said please cry for us ra who constructed our peoples. One of our mothers, one of the mice constructed our people in the construction of our people gave her sister, gave her husband, gave her future to her sister not to embarrass her sister. So we invoke that ofu in building our people not running over her sister in construction of our people and we ask to dam for us. I want to sing karama. If we could sing karama together as a kra. I want to express when we sit this far apart. It just doesn't sound good. If we can move closer if we can. Everybody move closer. Move up. Move up. Move up. Should have come much closer. Just doesn't sound good. Come closer. Come closer. >> We just sound better. Move two two rows closer. Mendle. Two rows closer. Mendle, you're an incredible quarterback. Mendle, did you win? >> What a comeback. Both games were good comebacks. >> I know that. Should you not start it or that's called key? Let's try try together. We'll figure it out. I know the key to that. It's not such a hard song. I don't think it like goes >> Marty. >> That's pretty. It's It's not hard. It's not for that one. >> Yeah, that that's pretty high cuz the beginning is good. >> No, this is very hard. Rock. How may I go? However, [chanting] heaven Help me God. [singing] >> [chanting] >> God [singing] [chanting] bes. is Hel. [chanting] [singing] of hell. I go out [singing] of hell. on it. All I call Hey [chanting] [singing] divine. [singing] >> [singing] >> This guy slow. >> What's the other Kobar was saying? How he Oh my god. Never go [singing] [chanting] like [music and singing] Beautiful. [singing] >> I want to express another aspect of both of both Ellie and Danny. I'm specifically I'm thinking about Ellie this minute. I'm thinking about Ellie Shambra on this minute and I want to express how magical and real a rebby could be. The word rebby could be magic. Some words get like damaged and tainted. We're asked in the system and nobody means bad. There's not a knock on any person but we're asked each person we're in their shear. We go to a shear, we say rebi and rebi and rebi and rebi. It's fine but the word rebi could be a magic word. My rebby I want to say that I'm not the young I'm not I feel pretty young 52 years old. My rebby is like very magical to me. It really like really means the world to me. I'm not a young kid stareyed which would be wonderful. I'm a little bit of an older kid not a younger kid. And yet I want to say my rebi like what he gave me what he meant to me meant the world. The word rebi I I remember Ellie Ellie Tress was thinking of coming to the yeshiva and claring to come and I remember telling him that the word rebi could become magical somebody's my rebi like opened up my eyes to something bigger to something more to something deeper the word rebi is harav shali my rebi it's a magical word we don't hear rabbi some guys will call me rabbi I'm not a rabbi by the way I'm no smik I'm no I'm You call me I'd rather you call me Dan than Rabbi. I'm just not a rabbi. Rabbi is like a certain distance. Here's the possibility. People look at Rabbi Russ and say Rebi, but not in a pretend way. Somebody like impact me. And I want to describe Ellie had rebum. He said Rebi he would walk miles. Just how much Ry Russ meant to him. Waterberry to blidge is about how many mile walk is that? 2.7. It's far. It's a very far walk. I remember a guy once like like checked it out exactly like >> I think it actually is 2.7 somebody I don't from the yeshiva >> they measured it >> from the it's a long walk worse than the distance because people can walk that this is uphill the way Waterberry and Blue Ridge are situated they're both on mountains and there's a valley in between so it's can you imagine both ways are uphill it's there should there should be a bridge or some sort of what's that called when you have a what's that called You zipline >> zipline >> I'm shocked Ashie Jeremiah he could do anything never built a zipline from the yeshiva if it would still be around chick for sure and ash would have done it if it was around in chicka's days with ashi there would be a zipline it's two mountains how far is it >> 2.2 miles >> walking >> because the drive it might >> he's walking he's right you can't he's right it's 2.2 too. But if you go B Boyd and you can't walk upward and it's too steep, I tried it. You'll lose your mind. But anyway, it's a it's a long walk and it's up a mountain and and Ellie would walk would frequently would fairly frequently walk the walk. I have a specific memory of if him and Yo walking through Irus and their shirts would but did it rain on them. Their shirts were soaked and they both borrowed shirts from me and I had a pride that Ellie showman who's a very cool guy. He wore my shirt and that like shouldn't be like he's this cool guy but they borrowed shirts once. I have that. Do you remember? Do you have this memory? >> It's vague by me also. Their shirts were wet. Did it really happened that they borrowed my shirts or I'm p maybe it was just [laughter] >> but anyway but just I want to express I say how magical a rebby could be and to watch Ellie. A rebi is not a rebi is not just somebody you worship you worship anyway but somebody just he's amazing a rebi means I have connection to that I find space that I can connect to something and and I become bigger through and from a rebi was very nervous that people would have a reba and glorify the rebba but has nothing to do with me in our world the rebi opens my eyes to greater things in me I find more in me. That's what to me the picture of a rebi raon spoke about this somebody who helps me access deeper things in me even my love for him is because through him I'm finding deeper spaces in me and I want to express that Ellie was somebody early in the yeshiva was like a magical relationship to a rebi he love rabbi ras he had rebeim who meant something to him who he confided in who through the rebi found deeper and more spaces is in a certain way a rebi means my expansion harav shali rav means expansive large a lot my you call that he's my expansion through him I find more in me through it's not a rebi is not the celebration wow that person's incredible it has nothing to do with you that you're just that's not what a the job of a rebi that's not I don't think that's a rebi >> that's why it's actually called that that's why rob >> my expansion Yeah, Rav means to expand my expansion through him. I'm like, whoa. Okay. But I find what I'm shy to. If I'm not shy to that's not a rebi, it's not meant to museum to admire a nice piece. A rebi is I see in somebody greatness and levels that I'm shy to that I can aspire towards and I and I have this in me. I'm connected to this make for yourself is the finding of your own expansiveness that your that's like Ellie was like an early guy in the who had a rebi and rebe were magical to him he was he was just beautifully connected I want to say that durm is a place of relationship of honest it's honesty and relationship already said this publicly when there could be a me and there could be a you we could be connected acted for all acting and trying to be. There's no real relationships in there. It's shallow. It's weak. There's no me. There's no you. Where there's a space for me and I find me and feel me and there's a you. We could talk. He described the honesty here where people could be themselves and figure out themselves and the connections that exists here. I just want to say Ellie was somebody the the open relationship to Rebi to a Rebi opened up. He expressed, he spoke. It meant something. The magic that rebi can be not a pretend thing that somebody could actually talk to somebody. Two people can meet and see each other and know each other and be close. There's a magical picture of Rebi Talmud that could exist to me. I see from the early guys in yeshiva who had beautiful relationship and specifically to a Rebi. It's interesting. There's there's a there's a that a person's to go to your rebi on y is supposed to go visit his rebi and I tried as a youngster I tried as a youngster even when I was married my wife would allow me to go sukus I loved going to visit my rebi and suka even I was married I was pretty far away it was talk about a long walk my parents had moved to Lawrence and I would go there to visit my as it says a person >> what says what are you doing goes to the she said what are you doing it's not it's not You see there was an Indian to go to the god to be >> I'm sorry's husband said why should we go today what's the lash from the lash she said it's not shabas to go to him it's not you see some said he's supposed to visit even on shabas mish bring such a dea my friend a breastler had such a tobi every shabist but on yant sir Certainly there's a mitzvi. So I want to express that when I would go to my rebi as the but it was something I wanted to be by my rebiant I wanted to see him and a friend of mine went to his rebi and said I'm not here because of the I'm here because I want to be I want to be nearby and the rebi said that's the the rebi said that's the reel is it should be such a space that I want to connect my it's a time of connection and of course I want to connect to my rebby that's like what should be I just want to express that Ellie in that suga of connecting to a rebi was quite advanced in that sa the beautiful relationship that could be of two people it's hard it's hard for a person there are people who um who say I can never find a rebi and there's something in themsel that's afraid of expansiveness we're afraid to expand like that a revi actually I don't want to say demands it but gives the possibility of expansion of knowing more and deeper. It's interesting when a person goes to a friend you want them almost to validate who you are. When you go to a rebi rebi can validate but also tells you about deeper spaces that you're shy to your sh to deeper things. I want to introduce you to the deeper space that you're shy to Ellie was a world of beautiful connections to friends for sure but also the world of hebi is a beautiful thing I want to share a story that happened through Danny and Ellie it is a cool story but I just want to talk about how much the godly aspect of things that happen of seeing yad hashem and things things are not heard. I want to say that Donnie and Ellie being nifter in a car accident on the way to the yeshiva to to many of us that if life feels chaotic it's like crazy two beautiful guys in the heart of their life and they pass away on the way to yeshiva's like could I trust anything secure that's the that's the like sense that it gave us all a lot of like you wanted I remember the next many months like hugging my kids a lot. You want them to like hold on. I love you. My kids, can you not say that again? Now the Donnie and Ellie Bing Nifter on the way to Yeshiva, there's a sense of of of of of the unexpected of the oh my gosh, anything could be. And I want to express that there's a Hashem and things are donebin. And I want to say that through Danielle, I want to say a story where we felt it's a little story to me. It's very significant but through the story of Daniel feeling things are exact runs the world their reasons things are not he are not and we're in good hands and Hashem's running things for reasons so I want to tell you this a story that happened with Danny and Ellie in the tyraisha two people Misha and Aaron Misha and Aaron were celebrating the inauguration of the Bamedash of the Mishkan We had built the Mishkan, a crazy happy day. Clal Israel wants Hashem. We want Hashem to dwell in our midst. The Mishkum was a magical place. If you want to think Mishkan, think Durham. A parent was here. I mean sincerely, just a visual ar just a visual of what the Mishkan is. And I mean I mean this sincerely because I want a guy, what's Mishkan? What does that mean? A place Hashem lived. It means a place that was beautiful. A yid felt connection there. Felt a space of connection to God, connection to other yiden, a space of connection. A parent came here this morning and their initial inquiry was not they were nervous about it. They said they see the genuine happiness. They said a certain guy who lives in their community and he's always excited to go back is that means something to them. Etan described the yeshiva. I pulled him over to ask to describe the yeshiva and he said I just want to say I'm excited when I come back. I want to express the Mishkan was a place of connection. People wanted to be there. You felt connected to Hashem, connected to other Yidden and the Mishkan was being built was crazy exciting for Kali. So we had a Mishkan in our midst. A place of connection. Everybody craves connection. Place of belonging. a place of experiencing Hashem eternity that which every human being craves purpose mission connection was like beautiful space and on the day of the inauguration of the Mishk like the happiest day in the world's two kids inexplicably are now it's a big sh was they were huge sadikim and in a certain way It's hashem said I have reasons for it another at the heart of the celebration the most best event ever was marred it was like tainted and damaged two of Aaron's sons die and Aaron var he accepts tremendous faith >> what does that mean just like >> it means he cried his brains out and he had faith that we're in good hands knows that this face We really can ex experience in our life the real faith in Hashem. We could learn that he's into us. I'm not I'm talking about do you have people in your life in Yemen that you just sense so much love you that you really trust them. I mamish trust you. I just believe you wouldn't hurt me. And you mean I don't understand you. Could you picture such a I'm not talking about fake. Could it be such a thing? Somebody proves to you again and again where you just know they love you and they do something. I don't know why he did that but you're that's what means I admit it's crazy it's crazy to go through such loss and have faith it's crazy but is in that space silent is silent so it's a story in cla's throw on the happiest day the craziest day we're getting the inauguration of the mishkun and Iron A's two sons dies that's a story in the Tyra it's a crazy story I agree It's like while the two sons that die marring this the biggest maring means interrupting disrupting the sim it's like what it's inexplicable and iron accepts it okay that's a story in the >> it's in par what parish is that in after the death of the two sons of when they were coming they were just going to hashem They were just trying to go to yeshiva. So I want to express to the there's just what happened two on the way to yeshiva inexplicable like very hard to accept to wrap our mind the the families donated and raised money to give a safe we have in the araidesh right now today that we're going to lane from tomorrow morning guys is dedicated and we wrote they wrote the yeshiva wrote yen wrote to say in honor of Danny and Ellie the fetra took a long time to complete. It's a long it's a story for itself. We had the last Sunday of this man. Everybody was going home later that day winter man the last Sunday. It was one of the nicest events I was ever at in my life. It was otherworldly. Who here was at this event? Rabbi Ras Ashi Mara Vicki you were there >> I think so. >> Wow. >> Was there water? >> Yes. Yes. >> It was I can't I'm not pleased like I'm not exaggerating. I'm 52 in my life I go through three things like that. It was gorgeous fire. There three parts to the event. The first part of Ryobberlander's house. We wrote the last letters of the Tory. The singing in his house was otherworldly. I'm telling you that sim that was the most powerful time I ever sang. It was crazy. Then we danced to say alumni came, parents came, we danced the safety from myander's house to the yeshiva time. It was sick. And then we had a suda celebrating the satire. It was like a crazy event. I happened to like there three parts to the event. It was insane. The next morning we made a minion of the rebum and for the first time ever we read from Dan and Ali the Tyra given to two Bakram on the way to yeshiva. You know what the first words we ever read in the this was ever read publicly in the was ever studied from the first words after the death of two sons of Aaron who on the way approaching Hashem that's the first words we ever read from the ray ras for you there that was the minion Monday morning we made a minion it was after this we had just had the on Monday Monday. This was not set up by any human being other than Hashem. Nobody thought of this. Nobody knew this would be and read the Tyra. And the first words we read from the dedicated the exactness, Hashem runs the world and we're in very good hands. And he sets things up. He sets things up that those were the first words we read from the satire giving to Dan and Elli there no odds for that this not like uh just what happened because Tyra is true because Hashem is true because namas are forever and hashem has a plan for each nishama and this was like dashka there's an exactness it was very powerful to me through d and we saw like exactness we saw tremendous ashka I do want to express that and share that with thera I want to say who was who was it? Was it Danny or Ellie who went to get to put on a fillin was my nephesh that day? The last that was Ellie >> Ellie >> Ellie's fillain were were he was in Brooklyn his fing were in Payic and the last day of his life he was like Mesh to put on his fillain he went home >> oh he went home to he was in Payic and he went home to put on his fillin he got in his fillin I wanted to express that act of ne to put on his fillin like he went out of his way like I said prayer was important to him dabney with his was important fillin I feel like the the fillain the fillin that's so precious it's one of the most beautiful I consider it the mitzvah of our yeshiva I somehow here guys put on fillin I love throughout the day that you see guys in yeshiva wearing their fillin the last day of his life he was mesh he went out he went like a long distance he want he could have borrowed tin he wanted to put on his fillin I did want to share that with this this beautiful grown person like was my nephesh went out of his way where he traveled from Payic to to Brooklyn to put on his own film. So I did want to share that that aspect with the cover. If there's a song there's a song that we sang a lot surrounding when Danny and Ellie were nifter there were also guys in the yeshiva that were sick and there was a song we now sing it every shall yes it's the tune we sing from msavid the words are you're hashem who brings salvation is who comforts you're hashem who comforts and in yeshiva we needed comfort and we needed salvation we need the people who the sick. We wanted to have Yeshua and the people and all of us who were broken. We wanted comfort. So, if I could ask the if we could sing that together. The guys know the tune we've been singing. You know the tune we've been singing. Miss Marl, you'll learn it now. This way. Shall join. Shall this is gorgeous. And we sing Mald. The should come. If you don't come shall, you're missing out. Let's sing this song together. D. [music and singing] [singing] [chanting] [singing] Oh, I [singing] La [chanting] [singing] [chanting] da. [singing] N [chanting] [singing] [chanting] [singing] [chanting] oh Oh yes, values. [singing] I am [singing] I am I I La [singing] I am Y. [music and singing] La [music and singing] [singing] [music] [music and singing] y Laure. [music] I want to share with the >> Max and this will be a goodish. It's ems what I'm about to say. I want to share with the >> Could you picture a doctor? A doctor is doing X-rays. Yeah. He's X-rays MRI a guy's brain on the inside. Nahi, somebody looks different they look on the outside. If the doctor observes this person's not so good-looking and buddy, you're not seeing the person the way the angle we see good looks. You're seeing the inside. There are people here who misrate siblings and don't they compare their sister to another girl that they know about. And it's not fair what they're saying because you're seeing somebody at a different angle. By the way, your own children, everybody here will be in love with their I want you to hear this cereal. This Ari, I want you to hear this will be good. Kadai and I'm going to say why I'm speaking about Ellie and Donnie's here. Catherine, your children, Ari, you're going to have a kid who's the best. By the way, Rebeam need to hear this also. You're going to have a kid who's the best kid in the world. And everybody sees how nice in a certain way. Parents see good in their kids in a certain way. Sometimes parents see a certain kid, well, he's so fetchy. They're not fetchy at all. One day with your wife, you might say she's a fetch. She's not a fetch, but I nobody could. She's a ladic fetch to you. She's showing you our insides are full of things. My wife could see a fetchier side than of me than anybody here. She does not consider me a fetch. To her, I could share even my fetch side. If somebody doesn't understand this, they can end up devaluing their sister. I have read to of their siblings. No, my my sister's not good enough. She's much better than you think. I don't get it. She's fetch. She's allowed to fetch to you. She's showing you a side. She's allowed to show you. Your kid might be teachers are going to say, "Your kid's the best behaved kids in the world." I'll call parents and like telling the parent about their kid. Your kid is incredible. Now the parent easy for you to say or you should know the what I'm saying is true on your kid. Yeah. At home he's allowed to show you other parts that it's safe. By the way, I hope your home is safe that he could show you fetchy parts. We all have a lot of spaces in us and at home it's safe. Woe on to the home that doesn't let the kids show different parts of a wall. That's not a very safe place. Yeah. At home, by the way, sometimes you're close to somebody will fetch to you. They're not fetching to you. They're allowed to fetch. I'll be close to a bach is the most positive guy in the world. We're close enough. He's allowed to fetch to me. Now, if you don't understand this, you see a guy who's fetch. He's not fetching. He's showing you appropriately appropriately. He's showing you he's allowed to crash their space. But I want to say about judging your siblings, your children, your spouse and getting it. You're exposed to aspects and she's perfect. She's a lad. I hope she can kvetch to you. It doesn't make her fetchy. And understand when people come, they say, "Whoa, your daughter, your son, he's the nicest guy." Understand? He is. What do you mean at home? He's sometime he's showing other signs bes does he's he's allowed why am I speaking about this Ellie Shro was an incredible incredible sibling who's very good to his sisters like incredible to his sisters they loved when he a lot of pictures of Ellia with his siblings you could see they made a v video about Ellie and Dani I want to say both of them the mark of a good of a of a growing person the yeshiva is a very good sibling They Donnie was an excellent till today. The siblings are so tight. They're so closeness. Danny has barm is two brothers and a sister. Incredible people and they're close-knit. They're like love each other and are good to each other and there for each other. He was a family person who cared about his mishbah. Ellie was incredible. His brother, his sisters, just a good brother and good to his sisters. I want to express that a healthy growing person caring person that's like natural don't forget your family to be a good sibling it's been the mark of a growing person here develops their relationship to siblings to family we've watched the last few years anytime you've seen the headstone family was here Moyo's here was here last year and you see a picture of siblings who care about each other. This yeshiva is like a big brother place. It's a place of brothers. I love I love watching Shaya with his brothers. Aka is like the mother and the nicest guy in the yeshiva. Somebody early in Shia and Shia could take care of himself just fine. But somebody early messed him. I thought Aka was going to kill the guy. Aka is like sweet but you mess with his brother. I love the brothers of yeshiva. We're to watch in to watch and sing for the entirety of our people. I love that it's two brothers sing together and to watch them each one wanting the other one to shine. To watch two brothers that are trying to like set up to help the other one look good. It's a place of brothers. We watch anybody who's watched the goddessman's laugh together and joke together and beat together and play katan together. It's like holy of holies. I'm thankful that my precious nephew Max I'm so appreciative it includes Israel that he should be part of the brothers playing tam the brothers playing together there's a place of family a family brotherhood I want to express I spoke to Isel mayor this summer and described how nice his cousin he's also a brother his cousin his cousin Max is him and cares for him is something special there's a place of brothers of people caring about their brother noticing I want to express that Danny and Ellie too early to the yeshiva were really like impressive pictures of of seeing their family. I watch as guys here as guys grow here a guy to notice he comes home basim he comes home for an offshops we're going home tomorrow that it's normal to want to run with friends but don't ignore your brother thank you Ariel for coming back thank you thank you but to really to notice your brother to care about your brother this was something that Ellie was outstanding was it was described his his his attention to his sister there guys. They're guys who are very, very protective about their sister and that's beautiful. That's impressive and beautiful. I want to express do more and be more. To be protective is great. It's a normal instinct. I love that. Where you touch that shows you care. But then be present. Call up your sister. Take her out. Take her out. See her. Spend some time. Call her to speak to her. Send a text. to be into family was something that was outstanding with Ellie. It's a picture I' I've watched last night I was to be with Donnie siblings. What were you saying? Yeah. It's the mark of a growing person. I mention again I'm mentioning recollections because if we're mazic it would be an eloid to their precious nishamus. This is something Ellie was was outstanding was it was big by him. It mattered to him. He cared a lot about that being present to his sisters like that mattered to him. He thought about that. I I I'm like amazed. Schlommo Schlommoyo the way they care about their siblings. Moyo Edelstone flew to Israel. I don't know if the guys know it's a cra it's like a it's like a crazy story. You know he flew to bring his brother flew right back. The guy flew to bring his brother. His brother should be comfortable. Mo Edstone in this space medish flew to Israel to go with he should check him should bring him to yes he should feel like a crazy stuff and I've watched Lommo travel distances to be with his precious and wonderful sisters just the caring about family is something it's very natural in a world where we're not trying to prove things and be things when you're trying to prove people forget about their family but they're just acceptance of self that's my sister that's my brothers like space for that I hope in the world that we're that we're existing in here a comfortable world when people are just clo are are acknowledging family are into family are yeah we've had the bladders I'm looking around there's so many siblings such a place I'm looking at me a place of siblings family yeah I like asked me there was a time cha asked me could I I'm a dorm counselor I have a duty could I run back My brother needs me. To me, that's why you're a dorm. I love that that he ran to be with his brother. To me, that's why you're a good dorm counselor. You understand brotherhood. It's appreciate. It's appreciated. This is a very beautiful aspect of the yeshiva. I want to express that Ellie was outstanding in this in this area. This was mentioned and spoken about something that exists at that I wanted to mention about Ellie, something that was important. I want when I think of Ellie another aspect that I want to mention is a tremendous pride in growing. There was a pride not a arrogance but a beautiful pride. I love in yeshiva that it's cool to grow. It's cool. It's what's respect that it's like the currency of the yeshiva. And he had such a pride. I remember he was excited. Right. Castam gave a very difficult cheer in the yeshiva. He was like excited that he was in a hard share. He was excited to advance. He was adding the picture of a Ben Aliyah. Ry Overberlander used to give at graduation a Ben Aliyah award. An award for somebody who was willing to grow, willing to expand. And the Ben Aliyah was called the Ellie Shamron Ben Aliyia award. And his excitement and willingness and want to expand. Sometimes we can get afraid. This is me. Whoa. To like find deeper spaces in me. He was somebody who was like willing. I discussed with Davin. He didn't just say this is how I am. I don't do that. No, maybe I could find something deeper. There are worlds inside of us to find worlds. Worlds. Worlds. Ellie Shamro was a guy finding worlds inside of him. I like when he was nif he was in Rcaster and he said it was hard for him to follow. He was like excited to expand. Wasn't this how I am? We can expand. I said before that he had the is the willing to expand. I almost want to say is the acceptance of self is the willing to find more of me. That's almost how I would hear those two directives of kazal. The acceptance of self is friendship and the willingness to expand as I say Ellie was remarkably willing to grow adding a new thing. So many people like lock in this is me our own your what was incredible about my father whose yard sites coming is he he always grew there was always like expanded new things to his game. We're all namas for anybody to think I'm done. This is this is me. This is me really like you know the whole you you have it all you have it down like the willingness to maybe expand you don't know you try a new thing and it fits and it works and you discover comfortably new parts of ourself that's all part of the Ellie Sham was like the Ben Ali here he's willing to grow in such a comfortable way was not a forced way it was not a flip out way it was like let me try something new he was davening he was at dominion every You know he could have said that's not me not my chill I don't like you know you part of part of ai is the willingness hey I could see new things hear new things learn new things I can expand I do want to say that we had somebody in this yeshiva eli shaman a really grown person and I want to express that you see it a lot in the yeshiva it's a beautiful mark of the yeshiva he was one of the early banana ali was just beautiful the way you saw him now. He was different in a few months, but like in a beautiful and a comfortable way. In a way that felt very much him in learning, in dening, in all different areas of expansion of of willing to learn something new, to hear something new, to try something new. Like in contrast to a person, this is me. We're learning the parat of the each one of the has a foil has the opposite. Asov. Asov has a lot of things he has, but he's us. He's already made. He's like done. You can imagine Asov had massively special things about him. He's au son. He's Araminu's grandson. You could be sure he had crazy good things about him, but he was done. This is me. So, he was ready me. He was who he was. I am who I am. There's you here in that eat, drink, and be married. Tomorrow I'll die. I am who I am. That's it. This is me. There's no there's no eternity. There's no deeper space. There's no nish. There's no there's no deeper spaces. And that's not how we live. We're we come from yak from the and the of us is ever pushing forward, finding new spaces, finding more. There's a lot to find in us. We're we're namas. The shamas are not limited. And I just want to say Ellie was somebody who added it was the the word of Ben Ali. It was very appropriate Ry Overlander would give yearly the Ben Ali award to somebody who expanded who like pushed further. It's funny I'm watching Max Russ and I'm watching him play guitar and he's like crazy. I like when people find talents and like new things. I'm watching him grow like crazy. But I like people like don't freeze. I'm this that's not I you know the younger me didn't like music. I like I I'm crazy of music today. Alec really I didn't like music it wasn't you don't know what you'll find be open to find new things in yourself to try new things to find new things to expand that's part of part of having a rebi is the willingness by the way guys come from water is you see certain guys I have my already you see other guys willing to hey maybe I'll expand even further people grow wildly they find something new and something deeper Ry Russ has discussed his own rebi and his throne meeting his rebi and you find things you're like energized and it's like wow in a new world new worlds open up that you're shy to that you want to enter that you want to go there but that takes a person being courageous not being stuck and I'm asov's a world of stuck this is who I am I know who I am people could tend to get to those places one of the beautiful things about being around young people is young people don't like freeze in this is who I am because they don't freeze like that they're willing to say I don't let me try now we're allowed to know ourselves we're allowed to have natures that's cool but be willing to say I'm going to show I don't I can play be willing to attempt Ellie came here just grew worlds he was like such a growing person it's like I I feel him still expanding says that people who grow here sadik who grow here continue to grow an oil. They're expansive. Ellie forever is expansive to me is like he's expansive because he was willing to grow. He wanted to grow. He was in to grow. He was so proud of his growth. Feel I'm I'm doing this now. I didn't do it yesterday. I'm finding a new thing. You think you know me? You think this is I'm watching Vicky and and Max together. I I'm being sincere. I'm just watching. There's like the yeshiva such a live place. You know me. Oh, we'll see comfortably. I'm not talking about I'm talking about normal comfortable not being afraid to expand to try to see to explore. You're watching like Tuben Tiger grows. It's it's what makes this place beautiful. A space people could be find themselves and then also known I don't know and try and see find new place in themselves. That's this beautiful place that we're going to be in. Ellie really is one of the early early leaders in the yeshiva. One of the big guys, a growing person of Ben Aliyah. I love that Ry Overlander named today. We don't really give this award at graduation, but at the time we had like awards, but we should go back to it. But the Ben Aliyah award was called the Ellie Shambran Ben Ali award that was given to somebody who just was very expansive. So I wanted to tell you briefly Russ do you want to share about that or not now? No pressure for you. I didn't give advance. [snorts] >> I very Yeah. The friendships that are here are so precious. and seeing these guys get together last night. The friendships. Yeah. Be there for your friend. Go eat out with your friend. It's holy. Understand? Shar is [snorts] holy. Putting on fill is holy. Two friends going out to eat together. I watch Azreel. I watch you as as I watch you. What's your full name? >> Azreel. Two names. >> All right. It's funny because we have you and Rezi and Rezi's name is not Azreel. You know that? >> Yeah. >> But anyway, but um I watch Azriel I watch Ezie and M watch them together. Friends so pure and holy precious two friends encouraging each other. I was with last night with Rub the guys that are so nice. Friendship is powerful. Friendship's important. Friendship's holiness. Friendship. Two people encouraging each other. Sometimes we have two guys who come to Yeshiva and they chhat for each other, not put each other down. The picture of two friends who encourage each other, who push each other, who are there for each other, who like know how to know how to just like help the other one and assist the other one is such a beautiful picture. Right. Oberander would give out an award at graduation, the Kav award. But it sounds like in some institutions like the good friend would be like somebody who couldn't get any other award, right? Oberlander took pride. He'd give it like to some of the best guys we ever had here. He would talk to me Morty in the office. But I want to purposely here give a was like higher than Valdictorian just to tell you the behind the scenes. If you know anybody Josh who got award right overlander Bedafa wanted it. He said maybe in like a secular place you have the valictorian like the good friend word. Okay. You know the guy. No, he he said I want the good friend to be like the biggest guy. And he would give like was a big coven. And he gave it was called the Danny King word. Just a good friend, loyal. He didn't put people down. None of this culture of like knocking and mocking. None of that. It's fun and a schmack but like picked up complimented the next person. and courage that was like a mark of Danny. But left is still here. I was going to ask him to play. >> He's allowed. He's allowed. Do we have time? What time is Russ? >> And what time is it now? Whoever could be I want to make a minion. We will have a kadesh. We're going to have a kadesh. Whoever could stay around for a min would be appreciated. If I could ask the even the next in the next it says the three days of the day before a day after the yard site is very much with us any in these matters and I'll just repeat being into family call a sibling up and Ellie call a call a sister up give your sister a call be reach out more be more present to family. You could pick other things but these are things and remembering them be willing to try new things to find expansion not to be stuck. I am who I am. Try something new. I'm telling you, give it a try. Give an attempt. I say, get yourself a rebi. Expand. The second thing, anything a guy could do in those two areas, family, friendship, expansion should be an ely for these two precious namas. I want to express that that offsh this offsh some of us are going to Houston, Texas. I want to express that this yeshiva is there are people there and we're bringing it to Houston there are people there who are very zoned in on this yeshiva and anywhere in class there are a lot of people looking in your growth all the guys here there's a lot to look in here and I want to express that I'm doing a lot of interviews parents come here lose their mind they meet the guys I ask m it's a little awkward I call over guys I just like showing you off I don't know what to say I don't need I don't lack I I I I know how to talk too much and I don't I could talk. I like bringing the guys over. I just want people to meet our guys. So if I call you over I ask I really would interrupt everybody but people are in the middle of learning. So I drive I find the guy walks by. I call over all the time. I just like showing you off. He always got everybody. I like showing off our gays. I want to express Schlommo and I are going to Houston and some of the are going to Houston. The world's leaning here. I just want to like try to bring the yeshiva to them. You can come here, we'll come to you. We're not a place that's like the iron curtain. Nobody gets in. I'm talking about Danny and Ellie's Aba Sager expansive. It's very easy to get in here and the doors are open and we even come to you. So, we're going to try. Mayor is there. I'm happy mayor. I want to show mayor off to the world. His family is very part in the Shabas. His brother actually learns in Houston. His father was part of arranging and making this whole thing happen. So I'm just wanted to express to the guys we are going to Houston. It's the first offsh to an excellent start. I think what Ellie He's not here. What Ellie Oaken pulled off. I can't stand people say things can't be. They'll say football nobody plays anymore. Ellie Oaken just made a football league like with with with patience with kios you could put things together here and I love what Ellie Oaken did the guys it was gishmach so many guys got to play and interact together it's just beautiful what he did I appreciate all the people that helped I want to express that mayor is working like crazy he's running the basketball team learning friend do encouraging guys and then Ellie asked him to ref a game and he was willing to do Yeah. >> He wrestled basketball. >> I didn't ask. Thank you. [applause] [applause] >> A lot of respect. Just a lot of respect for somebody who wants to see people succeed. What the dorm councils do here with YF, what you've arranged the league. I love the player of the night. I love that with the picture, with the I'm telling you for there's so many of us looking in on that. It's just and you've picked good players. It's just so nice. The player of the night is a great feature. Just that they're running things and coming up with new ideas. I speak about willing to try new things. Our leagues have been good. They're coming with new ideas. I like the player tonight. Whose idea was that? >> Does the guy win something or just covered? >> Maybe the guy should get when the canteen maybe a sandwich. But the cupboard's good, too. Cupboards. Cupboards. Cupboard's expensive. Imagine covered plus a sandwich. >> A great idea. >> Revolv says the bigger somebody is, the more they're into covered.
