Sub struggles with anger to try to fight and work and overcome and figure out. We actually count a year different than the whole world. The whole world has a calendar that's the the day is 365 days a year. It's based on the sun and one people is a lunar people. Am I Rh writes about this? We keep a year based on the moon, a lunar calendar and it's based on the cycle of the moon, not the sun. It's different days a year because we keep a different calendar than the rest of the year to keep our kagim in the right places. Every 19 years, we have seven leap years every 19. We add an extra month to make up for those 11 days. Our year is 354 days and the year of the sun is 365. to make up for those 11 days almost every 3 years we need to make up for 33 days. So every 3 years basically in 19 years 7 years a little more than every 3 years we add an extra month. Now what's our fascination with the moon that we count Hashem told us to count a lunar year. What is this that we go out always by lavana? We make some braha by the lavana by the moon. What is our attachment to the moon? Now Rabi ka spoke about this and I want to describe the cycle of the moon first. What the moon is? The moon does not have its own light. It reflects the sunlight and the moon reflects and brings to dark places. In the darkness of the light, the moon reflects the light of the sun. And the yid sees himself as a moon reflecting godliness in the dark corners. In our own stories where there's where there's where there's difficulty, where there's challenges, where there's ha there's hiddenness, we reflect a beautiful light. We bring kindness. And we very very much relate to the moon which in the middle of the night reflects the light of the sun and brings a light allows people to see. This is our own task reflecting godliness into the corners into our own spaces. Now the moon's pattern the cycle of the moon at the beginning of the month the moon peaks out and just a little slither and as it goes the first half of the of the month you can see more and more the moon. It has to do with the angle it's on and the sun it reflecting the sunlight. But as the month it appears, the moon is there the whole month. Of course, we want to live, but we're praying to Hashem that we should be ever fresh, ever hopeful, ever starting, ever trying, ever connecting, ever plugging in. Rabb was like Nasen said about Rabb that he was an ish. He was a person who lived. He was full of full of energy. the energy of somebody I'm starting again my braha to us and I love people who in old age are young and fresh I saw in my father somebody who was constantly like taking on new things it was like bizarre here was an accomplished person who did a lot and knew a lot he was always taking on new projects we saw in him we saw like growth he was so young I remember my friend Abrai Perry we read a together and he asked me who's the youngest person in the room and he pointed to my father. He literally was a young man. Like literally a young man in this young this this young there's a there's a it says that a young person is not let marry an old person you're not let do a old and young. It says not to equate is somebody who's hungry is somebody who's satisfied. It says you're not allowed to equate. They can't be equals explains. A r is somebody who's hungry means a young person. Amea somebody who's satisfied means an old person. A young person can marry old person. So if you have an 80 is like is hungry. And the dream of Rashashana is we should all like plug into a world of new beginnings, a world of fresh, a world of discovery, a world of being willing to say, I don't know, not I have it already and I know. That's that's my and my to us that we should be able to be our people who ever ever aspire ever hope ever like there's a word I use in yeshiva that's [snorts] like a big word on the campus it's something I would I fight for I have seen cynical people like I know already yeah like I don't like cynicism I like hope I like hope when I see it come on the campus it's the most danger people talk about safe and danger dangerous is Durham a safe place to me cynicism and old oldness is the most dangerous thing in the world I know already like a certain like nothing works I love I see people a guy's 40 50 80 and he like finds and grows and I saw my own ta like grow like crazy he was a big person I saw him grow and I love watching I'm going to be honest I've watched Josh is young very young. I just watched Josh come back cuz he has such a fresh energy. Like mom is fresh. You're so young. You're like mamish a youngster. It's beautiful. I could Yeah, it's true. Deserves a chair. It's true. I love that world. I have to I have to say like we're I I'm watching the dorm council at the start of this year. I'm asked a lot for my kids in Eric by how's it going on yeshiva? It's very new this year just beautiful. It's very new and I'm seeing like a lot of freshness from the dorm. I'm watching Schlima. I see it's like he's like new to this thing. I don't know where like Adam was like fresh and new watching Josh is like a burst as that energy of a came here like they're just so fresh and new and somebody expressed their shabas that it wasn't packed the challen packed things were beautiful they're not packed there's a yeshiva of fresh and newness right people it's a some yeshiv is already like when you start the year you have returning by us in every grade that new people new things. There are guys who come here's anybody my type I'm getting at. Stop being so afraid. Come and see and explore and find. Dig into a world that you don't know that you that you don't know that you can uncover and discover. A lot of what we ask guys here, the biggest challenge on this campus is that we're asking people to discover to find out. It's sometime it's much easier. We say the bell rings and go to math class then the next bell. Eight times wild that he came here. He has a crazy I decide when I get up what year I go to, where I go, who my f get me back to comfortable. I like a world of unknown, a world of discovery. Let me find out what my schedule's going to be, what I'm going to make. Let me find out who my friends. Let me let me discover and uncover. He got so anxious. He got so anxious to find new was so scary. Hashem should give us the courage, the kayak, the honesty, the sincerity, the sweetness to have a new year, to have like really rush a new beginning, a new year to tap in deeper into more into a world of unknown. We have a lot. We have a lot we could tap in. Don't people like you that maybe from the most dangerous energies is the cynical guy who knows already and he makes fun of people exploring and trying and seeing new things and he's like a cynical guy sits in the back. He just knows already. Who are you that you know already? You're so you're so shallow. You don't know anything. You're a goof. This Met fans have a lot of whatifs. If this and if this and this, we're always if we go in a 10-ame winning streak and the Braves lose 12 in a row, then we'll only be seven games out. We have like that's like the life of a Met fan. Always like the ifs. But the the the the the life of a season. I'm watching the guys practice. The cynical one like sees the end game like Okay, another hopeful. The beginning of the season practicing trying this year. We're beating Mag and David. For sure. For sure. Now the cynical one. If you're cynical, you're not invited out. the cynical and hardened guy who sees the tough loss already. First of all, you don't you don't know anything. You don't know anything.
