Rabbi B - The Month of Tishrei

[Music] hi welcome to a very special series all about the 12 months of the Jewish year you know the Jewish year begins with the month of tishay and this episode is all about the month of tishay and the first day of the month is called Ro kodesh and the RO Kesh for the month of Tish is called Ro hasana the word ro means your head and just like the head gives the power and the energy for the whole body so too the RO Kesh and Ro hashana gives energy and power to the whole month and to the whole year and of course we know we have one true Ro over the whole world Hashem Hashem is the RO of everything the head so all the Mitzvah we do on R KES and during the month of Tish we know we're connecting to the head and we're making sure Hashem is very very much felt and here in the world wow what incredible power the RO has tishay is a very special month and it's a full month which means it has 30 days and those days are full of mitzvah and holidays tishay begins on the first and second day of the month with rashash Shana that's the Jewish New Year also the birthday of Adam and kava it's also the anniversary of the first Shabbat and rashash Shana Begins the 10 days of tshua the first 10 days of Tish are special days with extra doing extra prayers to Hashem asking Hashem for forgiveness and to be close to him and for help for the coming year the 10 days finish with yum kipur on the 10th day of Tish yum kipur is our holiest day of the year that's the day that grown-ups fast they don't eat drink take showers wash and it's a very holy day later on we have the holiday of sukat sukus on the 15th day of the month and sukus lasts for 7 days and then the Eighth Day of suus is called shmin ateres shmini ateret is The Eighth Day of sukot and the day ofat is split into two and the day after is called Sim T Sim T wow and TSH we are taught is the birth month of all of the AOS the aot Abraham and yob we learned that ysep was let out of prison in the month of Tish wow so many blessings and so many holidays and so many celebrations happen in the month of Tish so come along with Rabbi V's Roes Series this time all about the month of [Music] tiray first comes tiray then Mar next is we [Music] fought winry T next ISAT then it's Adar Mar the month of Nissan we count the month of Moshe on the mount next comes T the month of I want to tell you one of my favorite stories of all time and it's all about the month of Tire this story was told by the Bal Shem to now I don't think it's a real story I think it's a mush a story that has a lesson the balov told us that once upon a time there was a prince and this Prince lived a royal life the prince lived in the palace with the king and the Queen and all the Royal people but one day the prince decided to go out on his own and leave the palace life and start to act and do things that were not Royal and that are not right for a prince to do the prince ended up going to a very very not so nice place he got a little bit dirty and his clothes were worn and old well after a while the prince was so sad and missed his Royal Palace life that he returned to the gates of the palace and he tried to get in but the guard was standing at the gate and the guard did not recognize the prince and the guard said no way no entry allowed well the prince had nothing else to do he begged and begged and begged until he started to cry and he started to call out to his father father King father King it's me your son the King was sitting in his throne room and the King could hear the royal princess Cries From Down By The Palace door the king looked out the window and he could see his son had returned home the king rushed downstairs and saw his son there the son went to the father and said I'm so glad you recognized my voice please father could you ever forgive me and of course the Father the King was such such a loving person he forgave his son and the two of them gave each other the biggest most loving hug well then the king decreed that all the people in the in the Kingdom should come to the palace for a great party and they had this beautiful party and everyone was so happy and finally the king and the prince were back together again well this story The balov tells us is not just a story but it's our story The Jewish people's story and it's the story of Tish you know there are five main parts to the story The Prince leaving the prince trying to get back in the king forgiving the prince the hug and the party the bmov teaches us that the going away from the palace that's during the year we make mistakes we do some things that Hashem doesn't like and we have to come back to Hashem and say sorry so we come back on rashash Shana and we low the chofar do you know which part of the story The chofar is it's the part where the prince calls out and cries to his father and the father recognizes his voice the next part the king forgives the prince that's yum kipur Yung kipur is the day Hashem forgives us for anything we did wrong or any mistake we made next the king and the prince hug each other and that's the holiday of sukot the Suka is like a big hug Hashem reaches around us and hugs us because he loves us so much and finally the great party the celebration you guessed it that's Sim torim T that's the day we celebrate our love and connection to Hashem so this Tish let's call out to Hashem with the chofar let's do tsha and say I'm sorry on yum kipur let's give Hashem a great big hug on sukot and we'll dance together on and Sim t all together and hopefully this year we'll be together in yush with the balov and of course with mhia happy [Music] KES [Music] Tay t [Music] Tish [Music] Rayes the month of [Music] Tish what is ro kodesh kodesh means month it comes from the word kadash meaning new and Ro is head so Ro kodesh is the first day or head of the new month how do we know when Ros kodesh is we know when R kodesh is by following the cycle of the moon the English word month even comes from the word Moon Hashem made it take the moon between 29 and 30 days to go around the earth one time that's why some months have 29 days and others have 30 days when the moon is new its Dark Side faces us so we can't see it then as the month goes on the moon starts to wax meaning it starts to reflect more and more sunlight onto us and we start to see the moon get Fuller it looks the most full when we are at the exact middle of the month the 15th day then as the month gets closer to its end the moon starts to WAN meaning it gets darker and darker until it goes fully dark again and now it's a new moon again and the start of a new month we celebrate R kodesh by singing Kal songs to Hashem to thank him for all the good he does for us we add an extra amida called musaf and we add yo in our benching and daving after about a week we also say another special prayer called Kush Lana thanking Hashem for the moon and for all of hashem's blessings so the next time you see the Moon try to figure out if the moon is waxing getting bigger and brighter or Waning getting smaller and darker and that would tell you what day of the month it ises [Music] to the month of Tish has so many beautiful holidays it's full and the four main holidays are R yurk and Sim T I have a fun song we can try to sing all four holidays and if you can sing along with me we'll go faster and faster [Music] are you ready to the very first month of the year and the Very very first word of the Torah is bit the para of bit speaks about Hashem creating the world in seven days and the last two days of creation when Hashem made Adam and Kava and Hashem made Shabbat hashem's world was finally complete and the date of those two days is Alf and bet Tish this fact is hidden in the word bit can you see the name Tish hidden in the word braet see there is a t a shin a r and a yud TSH and the left over letters are alif and bet the date that Hashem made people and Shabbat alif and bet Tish it's also the date of rashash Shana it's true what Ben bagbag said everything can be found in the Torah hi coule hi Rabbi B do you want to play a month of Tay guessing game I'd love to play a game all about the month of tishay know what it is it's a remon a pomegranate a special fruit we eat on Russia Shana that's a tishay thing correct great job okay here is the next one H think I need some help with this one can you zoom out a little bit more okay zooming out how about now it is something we use on Rosana and yum kipur oh that's a good hint I know what it is it looks like a chofar correct again hey great one we blow a showa fart on rashishana that's the Mitzvah of rashishana and we blow it again at the end of yum kipur to say thank you Hashem for a beautiful year to come loading the next one can you guess what it is H it's very white I can't can't tell what it is zooming out it's something we use to prepare for rur I know something we use to prepare for yum kipur we use a chicken for kaparot for kaparis correct again Rabbi B oh wonderful wonderful you know some people do kaparot with a chicken some people use money instead whatever you do is wonderful and it's a special thing to do right before yung kipur in the month of isray here is the next image H looks kind of like a bumpy mountain or some colorful clothes or something okay zooming out more it's something you buy and use for suut ah I know what it is it's a whole table of etrogim of esrog estrog are those citrone lemon type fruits that we use on the holiday of sukat we take it together with aula and we shake it shake it shake it all seven days of sukat except for Shabbat yes it is an etrog great job Rabbi B okay here is the last picture H that's very pretty color but I don't know what that is okay zooming out a bit this is something you use every sh Shabbat but people love to dance with it at the end of sukut ah now I know what it is it looks like the edge of a Torah you got it again Rabbi B I knew it a Torah is very special for every week and especially for Shabbat and holidays but at the end of sukat we have SIM T Sim and that's the day we take all the toras out of the Aron kodesh and we dance around with them and we thank Hashem for letting us finish and begin the Torah again wow what a great game cougle thank you so much thank you Rabbi B you know your game reminds me about the month of tishay also you know tishay is the month that Hashem judges the world Hashem looks at the world and has to say what kind of year the world is going to have and what kind of year you're going to have and I'm going to have you know we can't be judges because we don't get to see everything if someone is being a little bit in a bad mood I can't judge them I don't know what kind of day they had but Hashem does and Hashem is the only true judge the D the true judge and Hashem knows everything about us and let's hope Hashem looks at us and gets so much Nas and pleasure and gives us a a happy and a sweet New Year Sian tamuz a the 12 months of the year you know rashash Shana yur sukot and Sim Tor have so much wonderful things about them chofar and apples and suas and lulas and toras well I have a really nice craft that you could do at home all you're going to need are a couple of things you're going to need one of these cork hot plates that usually your IMA or ABA would use to put down some hot pots on a table you can get these at the the dollar store at Walmart and they're really really nice so we're going to use one of those you're also going to need some push pins now this part you're going to have to make sure a grownup helps you with just in case if you poke yourself cuz they are a little bit Pokey so just be careful when you're using them and I have here red black and yellow because those are the colors that I'm going to need for today's craft we're also going to need some glue a pair of scissors and some yarn and some picture of things we use on Rashana or on sukot whever you like it's your artwork we're going to use the Apple today we're going to make some small ones so I have here a sample of one that I made before can you guess what that shape is of course it's a chofar now you'll notice I used different kinds of materials I used push pins some yarn and the picture of the thing that I want to make so we're going to use let's use an Apple today we're going to use use the Apple for our picture so we're going to put the Apple cutout picture right on top of our cork board or our cork um hot plate and we're going to put a little bit of glue on the back just so it stays in place make sure you cap up your glue so it stays nice and wet and doesn't dry out okay and try to tape it down right try to glue it down right in the middle of your cork plate okay so now you have a nice picture and that could be your whole artwor work right there but we're going to do a little bit more than that now in this we have some red and some brown and some green so I'm going to start with the red I'm going to use some red push pins and I'm going to push them around the shape of the Apple starting from the top and I'm going to work my way around the apple and in this case I'm going to leave a little bit of space I'm not going to put those push pins right next to each other I'm going to leave a little bit of space I'm not going to leave the push pins on top of each other so there you go we have push okay so now I've done the Apple part of the push pin job now just be careful if the push pins do push out the back try to just be careful they might push out the back if they do just push a little bit with just try to you know get a grown up to help you push them back in a bit but they should be fine okay so now because my Apple is red I'm going to use some red yarn I'm going to cut up cut a little bit of a long piece of yarn not too long because I don't need too much and I'm going to tie a little knot the way to tie a knot is you make a circle with your yarn and then you have a little bit of the circle sticking out and that little sticky out part is going to go underneath the hole and through the top through the hole as if it's coming out of the hole and then you pull and that's how you tie a knot so that knot I'm going to tie around the first pin tie it really tight and then the little piece that's sticking out I don't need that piece so I'm going to give it a snip just so it's off of there okay great and then all I'm going to do is I'm going to take my yarn and I'm going to put it [Music] around my maybe I'll add one more to the bottom here cuz I need that for the bottom of the Apple perfect up and around and then around again underneath on top and around and as much as you can with your y YN and what you'll do at the end is you'll tie another knot remember how to do the knot you tie a make a circle and then the sticky out part you put under the circle and then through the circle now that Knot's ready so when I go around the last time I can take a knot part and I can tighten it right around the Peg and then cut the extra piece off there I go so now I have my apple shape around me made with yarn and some push pins now I can do other things I could take maybe some brown and with this maybe we'll use a black pin and I'll put the black pin at the top of the stem okay that's all I need just one and then I'll cut some a very little bit of brown yarn or string once again I'll tie the knot remember how to do it Circle underneath and up through the circle and then I'll tie that onto the black and cut off extra piece and then I'll go around this middle Peg up and around and around and around now this one might be a little bit more difficult to tie at the end so what I'll do is I'll tie it at the end now tie it at the end first that way it's ready to go and then I'll go around and around around and then over black and then tighten and then cut it off and there we go so now we have our apple shape with the little Peg the little apple stem and then I don't have any green yarn but I do have some green pins and if you'd like to do it you could use some green pins and just kind of do the shape of the leaf there that way it kind of looks like a Le sticking out maybe one more right in the middle right between there and there you go so now I have my apple shape the stem and the leaf done in a nice 3D kind of a yarn and string and push pins so there you go a really nice rashash Shana decoration or a Suka decoration you could do any kind of shape that you like you could use any kind of shape any kind of colors any kind of string and you can make yourself a beautiful piece of Jude art well there you go [Music] la May Tora Tora T Tora T Tora [Music] toov yov [Music] is [Music] wow what a full episode all about
