[Music] all right d'vorah we're looking for orange red yellow and brown hi there Welcome to our show you know d'vorah and I are getting ready to celebrate the month of kesan the month of kesan is the month that comes after Tish and I promise toorah that after all the holidays all the Kim we're going to go outside and collect leaves because it's the fall outside and Autumn is a great time to collect all colored leaves so we're going to go outside and we're oh my goodness d'ora it looks like it's raining outside oh my goodness there's a big rainstorm happening I guess we're going to have to wait till the rain ends to go outside and collect our leaves oh I'm sorry d'vorah well welcome to the month of kesan first comes T then mares next is we fought Mal winry next ISAT then it's the month of Nissan e we count the month of Sion mhe on the mount next comes theth of wow the month of kesan is a very special month but it also is a very unique month did you know that kesan also has another name they call it Mar kesan do you know the word Mar d'vorah let me give you a hint the word Mar you can find at the beginning of something that we eat on pesak no that's mat we're looking for Mar that's right maror you know what maror means right maror means bitter oh why would we call the month of kesan bitter H well some people say it's because there are no holidays in the month of kesan there are no special Mitzvah there's no celebrations it's an empty month it's all open but I think that actually makes it a pretty sweet month because it's an opportunity for us to do all the Mitzvah of the Torah no matter what we can do the Mitzvah of is and Dav in beautifully and there's nothing to distract us there's no suas to build no Matas to bake just plain everyday mitzvas and I think that's a wonderful thing you know Maran is really a beautiful month and there are so many special things that happened in the month of kesan did you know that in Maran schom finished building the base H mikdash wow also on Zion on the seventh day of kesan well that's the day that all the Jewish people that went to yush for sukot for sukus they made it home the people who live the farthest it took them until the seventh ofan to get home and therefore in ER Isel we start to Daven for rain extra hard we don't want to doav extra hard for rain while people were traveling and trying to get home we had to wait till they were safe in their homes and then we davened for the rain so Z kesan is a beautiful day to start doing extra hard on the 11th day of kesan well it's a little bit of a sad day that's the day that ra IMU passed away raal the wife of yakob in the Torah she was the mother of Yosef and Benyamin and she is buried on the side of the road in a beautiful tomb called and 11th day of Maran is the day of her art site we also have some very very special dates the 17th of kvan well that's the day that the flood happened the great mble in the times of Noah that's when the rain started to fall and the world became flooded for Hashem to clean the world from all the bad and make it a beautiful place once again and then on the 27th day of kesan that's the day that the flood finished and the Earth dried up and Noah and his family were able to leave the Tava the ark and go and make the world a place of Mitzvah and good deeds and beautiful things so wow the month of kesan really does have some wonderful things but it has a lot of rain which also is very wonderful it helps our planet grow it helps the crops grow it helps fill up the wells all the drinking water and everything we can do with water is all from the rain and of course the rain is all a braa a blessing from Hashem so let's use the month ofan to ask Hashem for all the Bros and all the blessings that we want and needes [Music] toan [Music] kesan kesan [Music] funan the month of kesan okay we're going to do something called rain sticks we're going to use our sticks to make the sound of rain now before any rain happens I have to make sure I have my umbrella here so I brought my very special umbrella hat that way I know I can make sure don't get too wet because of course rain people get wet okay so your sticks are going to be the Rain Sound On The Ground now there's all different kinds of rain some rain is very very gentle and soft so if we tap our sticks very gently and softly a little bit of rain right okay and some rain is really really really really fast and h l oh my goodness wow wo wow oh my oh my goodness wow and [Music] stop now you mentioned a thunderstorm I have here my box of the rest of the sticks if I shake my box around like [Laughter] this that's going to be the Thunder and our sticks are going to be the rain so let's start the rain and let's not talk at all and just imagine it's the rain dripping and dropping down no speaking at all and you'll follow me if I go faster means to go faster with the sticks if I say slower then go slower and then we'll go really really fast okay [Music] wow that's pretty you can clap your sticks together that was amazing after we say a special gem we ask Hashem to bring the winds and the rain because the plants and the crops and the fruits and vegetables can't grow without rain and of course gem is also about brot bras blessings from Hashem so we ask Hashem for all the blessings now in this song you're going to need to know a few words first of all G rain and R wind excellent now rain comes from the clouds anim anim are clouds now in the wintry fall season when it's cold and rainy you need to wear aova on your head a hat me so the anim she also loves to to see the different shapes the clouds make and she loves to imagine that she sees different pictures in the clouds let's imagine with d'vorah h what could that cloud look [Music] like hey that's pretty good imagining d'vorah it did look like a guitar H that one's a really funny shape oh yeah it did look like an umbrella amria all right this Cloud H it looks very familiar oh yeah MIM boots you're good at imagining d'ora H oh this one's a really strange looking Cloud it does look like you d'ora that's really good [Music] imagining oh I know what it looks like to me what does it look like to you yep I thought it looked like cougle as well all [Music] right this one H this one could look like I don't know oh you're right d'vorah it did look just like a cloud wow what a beautiful activity to do to look up at the sky and see all the beauty that Hashem made in his beautiful world you know all this talk about rain reminds me of one of my favorite stories it's a story from the gumara from the talmud and it's called 12 Wells full it's all about the braa of rain let's begin the story in the days of the second Bas mikdash all the Jewish people people would travel from wherever they lived to yush for the three festivals of suus pesak and shuis one year the land of Israel was experiencing a terrible drought that means it had not rained in many months and therefore the crops did not grow well and there was very little water to drink or bathe with all the people who came for sukut would be without water and that would be very bad a very wealthy man named nakdimon Ben guron had a very good idea he went to a Roman land owner who owned many Wells of water and made him an offer if you loan me 12 full Wells of water for the Jewish people who are coming in for the holiday I promise to pay you back with 12 full Wells of water the Romans said to nakimo and what if you can't refill my 12 Wells of water nakdimon replied then I will pay you 12 talents of silver which was a very big amount of money that would be like millions of dollars today the Roman agreed but gave nakdimon a date that the water was due if you can't refill my Wells by that date then you have to pay me the 12 talant of silver nakdimon agreed he had auna faith that Hashem would help him out the Roman was very happy with this deal because it would be very hard for nakade demon to refill 12 Wells of water the only way was if it rained very heavily and that was out of nak Demon's control so the Roman just knew he was going to get the money thanks to nakdimon the Jewish people who came for the holiday were able to drink water and bathe without any problems they used up all 12 Wells of water the holiday was over and weeks passed without any rainfall the drought continued into the day that ndon had to pay the Roman back the Roman man met ndon that morning ndon the day has come there is no rain please pay me the 12 talant of silver ndon replied the day is not over yet I still have time to pay you back the ran laughed but agreed that ndon had until sunset to pay him back that afternoon they met again ndon the day is almost over you lost the wells are empty pay me the money nakdimon still had faith that Hashem would not let him down the sun still has not set I still have time the Romans saw the sun was minutes from setting he told nakon I am going to take a bath at the bath house when I get out the sun will have set and I expect you to pay me my money the Roman went to the bath house but nakdimon feeling a little sad went to the BAM mikdash wrapped himself in a Talis and began to DAV to Hashem Bono sham Master of the world I made the deal with the Roman not in my honor but in your honor to give water to the Jewish people who are coming to serve you in the basa mikdash please Hashem show your love and kindness and send the Reigns to fill the 12 Wells with water just then a miracle happened thick clouds formed in the sky and it began to rain and not just a light drizzle an incredible downpour of water so much that the 12 Wells became overfilled with water when the Roman came out of the bath house he was shocked that the wells were overflowing with water but he still thought that he won the money sorry n demon he said even though the wells are filled the day ended before that so you still ow me the 12 talents of silver nodemon asked the Roman to wait for one minute and he returned to the base of mikdash wrapped himself in a Talis again and said Hashem thank you we the Jewish people love you so much just then the thick rain clouds parted and revealed that the sun was still up it was still the daytime and ndon did not have to pay the Roman any money the Roman could not believe it he even told ndon if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I would not have believed it the sun somehow is still up in truth Hashem had done a miracle for nakdimon Hashem caused the sun to stay up even though the time for sun set had already passed it was a wonderful miracle and it was in the Merit of nakon benuron wow what a wonderful Story full of Miracles and daving andos we know every time we ask Hashem listens and let's hope every time we ask for something Hashem sends it even more than what we asked oh I think I hear kogle the robot let's go see what he's up to today I knew it was cougle Hi cougle how are you today bar Hashem Rabbi B how are you hasem I'm doing great you know we were a little bit let down that it's raining but so far we've been having a lot of fun learning all about rain and the month of kesan and you know what cougle I have a question for you where does the rain come from I know of course it comes from hashem's blessing but on Earth in the atmosphere in the world how did Hashem make it that the rain should fall down loading the Torah to answer your question the Torah no cougal I'm asking you a science question why would the Torah have the answer Rabbi B you always tell us that everything can be found in the Torah I do say that all the time Ben bbog said it first everything is found in the Torah K everything can be found in the Torah even science okay let's ask the Torah Torah how did Hashem make it that the rain should fall in the very first para of barus Hashem explains that nothing had started to grow yet on Earth because Hashem did not yet send the rains [Music] theem describes that water will evaporate from the ground and then come down as rain to water the surface of the Earth this is called the water cycle water from lakes rivers and even puddles warms up in the Sun the liquid water then turns into steam this is called evaporation the steam Rises to the sky and forms clouds once the clouds cool down they become liquid again and fall down as rain this cycle repeats itself again and again of course there are many cases of of rain in the Torah the most famous is the mobble of Noah Hashem caused it to rain for 40 days and 40 nights which caused a flood the flood cleaned the whole world like a great big washing machine Hashem also promises rain in the right time as a reward for keeping the Torah and Mitzvah when we do our part and do hashem's will Hashem repays us with rain of blessings like good food to eat and healthy drinks to drink [Music] wow that was really interesting it's amazing how everything works together on Earth the water evaporates and then falls down and goes in circles and circles and keeps working together and also with each other yeah we work together too you and me and you and your friends and me and my friends we all can work together tough tee tee tough [Music] rain rain falling [Music] down falling down to the ground drip drip drop drip drip drop all day long doesn't stop [Music] [Laughter] [Music] wind wind blowing around [Music] blowing leaves on the [Music] ground blowing leaves all around orange red yellow and brown [Music] you know all that talk about rain has given me a great idea for a craft this is a rain stick and a rain stick is a musical instrument that's supposed to sound like rain just have a listen that's pretty good good you know rain sticks can be filled with all kinds of things to make noises and we're going to make a rain stick today you're only going to need a few things you're going to need a paper towel roll some beads some markers a pair of scissors some circles cut out of paper some tape and some aluminum foil tin foil first what we're going to do is block off one of the sides of our paper towel roll because we don't want the stuff to fall out or else it won't be a stick it'll be a mess stick we'll take one of those circles and what we're going to do is we're going to lay some tape on the back of the circles that's going to stick out there I think that's enough tape now what we'll do is we'll cover the hole with the paper and we'll push down the tape onto the paper towel roll next if you want to make a little more secure you could take a longer piece of tape and just lay it down around the paper towel roll so the tape sticks really really good there now nothing will fall out all right the next thing we need to do is get our beads inside I have here A whole bunch of different kinds of beads there's small ones thick ones um big ones min mini ones whatever you can find that's hard and will make a nice shaking sound now you could use rice or beans those also could make really good rain sounds however if you're going to have your rain stick around at pesak time I don't think your imar ABA would like to find rice and beans all around the house especially since some of them could be humet all right so let's pour some beads into the paper towel roll o I'm going to put a lot I'll put all of them why not I even lost some oh it almost sounds like a rain stick already but I'm glad to see none are falling out okay the next thing we need to do now is if we just covered that side of our rain stick then all you're going to hear is all the beads falling to the other side we want them to fall slower so a rain stick like this would have nails and things sticking into the tube to make the beads and stuff fall slowly but we're not going to use nails or things like that today because they could be a a little bit dangerous but what we're going to do is we're going to use the tin foil what you'll do is we'll take the tin foil and we'll roll it into like a snake we may not have to use all the tin foil but it's good to have more than less roll it into a snake and make it really really tight that way you can have sort of a really really kind of like a rope to work with next what we're going to do is we're going to actually start by wrapping the tin foil around our tube like this all right just like that now that's outside of course but now we kind of have the shape that we need start to kind of make it into sort of a snaky thing we don't want to make it too tight because then the beads won't have anywhere to fall then we can start feeding our tin foil into the paper towel roll until we feel that we've come to the bottom and then all we need to do is just snip off the rest of the tin foil that we don't need there we go all right next now that we have that inside you hear how that works next we need to cover the other side the same way we did for the top just take your tape and make that star shape over the circle you cut out the paper Circle and then cover the top of your tube again with the tape and then to secure it just put another long piece of tape around the top and there you go our tube is now filled with beads uh twisty twist of tin foil and covered with two pieces of paper with tape now for the fun part let's turn it upside down and see if we can kind of hear a little bit of rain sounds not bad now of course you could decorate your tube any way you like that's what the markers are for sometimes I like to do kind of a design with just some dots so you could just put some dotts all over your rain stick of course you could use different colors go now we have a confetti rain stick that's really pretty and maybe when I DAV asking hasem for the to come I can shake my rain stick and it'll make me think of the G and all the Bros that Hashem sends to me when I dve to him well happy shaking see you later wow d'vorah we really had a wonderful day today learning all about the rain and the wind and the month of kesan wow look at that see d'vorah what Hashem must have been looking out for us because the rain finally stopped and now we can go outside and collect leaves for your art project and we'll see you
