and we're so excited and we're so ready to unpack all our boxes of things but but wait a second d'vorah there's one thing I want to do before we unpack our boxes put up a muuza oh d'vorah wants to know what a muuza is well a muuza is a Mitzvah from the Torah Hashem told the Jewish people to put a muuza on all all their doorways and gateways it's a scroll that's rolled up and on the scroll is written the Shai Isel you know the Shai Israel the one that you say every night what a Mitzvah and I'm sure you say the shat too well so before we unpack our boxes d'vorah I want to make sure our home is a Jewish Home and that's going to be when we put up our missua so I'm going to go visit my friend Rabbi Cass who has mzas for sale he is a Sofer yeah okay so you stay right there oh d'vorah wants muuza it's a real toy muuza that's very cute that looks like maybe a muuza like a little baby or child can play with but I don't think parents would want children playing with a real muuza but Rabbi Cass we'd like to look for some real muas could you help us find some of course well why don't you come with me and I'll show you where my real muas are come Rabbi Cass is a sofair stom that means he's a rabbi who knows how to write toras just like the Torah we read on Shabbat he also writes toilin toilin is something worn by Jewish men Over Bar Mitzvah every morning except for Shabbat and each and every one of those letters very carefully on the special parchment paper parchment paper is made out of a kosher animals skin and he has to use a big feather he also has to make sure to use a special kind of black [Music] ink let's try to guess which letter the sofair is writing H that's right it's the letter ol if a sofair also has to to check people's misas to make sure they're still kosher and still written correctly he has to check each letter very carefully and then he makes sure that the muuza is put back in the case and back on the door where it belongs all right well rabic Cass thank you so much for showing us around the Sofer Center we got to see some beautiful things but I think I found some beautiful m muas and I think I'd like to buy a muuza from you today of course for our house so i' would like to take this mza and let's think I now I need to think of a case to put around the muuza so the muuza doesn't get wet or ruined H which case should I get yep that's the something Hashem asked us to do another word the letter Shin stands for is the word shma the shma is a special prayer that's written down on the muuza the letter Shin also stands for Shir which means guarding we ask and Hope Hashem is guarding and protecting our home the letter Shin can also stand for the Hebrew word Shalom which means peace we hope our homes are filled with peace and love and of course the letter Shin could also look like the letter sin and the letter sin begins one of the most wonderful words of all Sim happiness we hope our homes are filled with joy and happiness the letter Shin well barem we are here in our new home and we have our brand new mza from Rabbi Cass and now it's time to put the muuza on our front door to make this home a Jewish Home are you ready we always want to put a muuza on the right side of the door that means if you're facing this way as you walk into the house it'll be on the right side also we want to make sure it's not too high but not too low think about where halfway up on the door is then go half of the top half and that's the perfect spot for your missua halfway up the top half all right now we put the mza up on a little bit of a slant and we say a special braa while we hammer it in are you ready Adonai [Music] elu [Music] and there we go a beautiful missua on our brand new home now anytime we walk into the home we always give our muuza a kiss and we thank Hashem for his protection of our home and our family all [Music] right when putting a muuza on the door we always tilt it a little bit towards the inside of the room the reason is that there were once two great rabbis Rashi hello and rabenu Shalom Rashi felt that the muuza should be placed vertically straight up and down and rabenu felt that a muuza should be put sideways horizontally side to side therefore to respect both great rabbis we place a muuza on an angle half up and down down and half side to side that teaches us that the best kind of Mitzvah is one that we can do working together well today's story is called a gift to protect and look there's a muuza on the cover because this story is All About that's right a muuza let's begin the story The Great Rabbi Yehuda hanasi was friends with the Persian king artaban sometimes they would even send gifts to each other one day King artaban decided to send rabi Yehuda a beautiful gift wow that's so nice you know it's a wonderful thing for friends to send each other gifts to say hey you're my friend let's continue the story when RAB Yehuda opened the box he saw that the king had sent him a beautiful Pur Jewel rabi Yuro was so touched that he wanted to send a gift back to King artaban as a thank you Rabbi Yehuda chose amuza even though artaban was not Jewish amuza is still a very special and holy thing when King araban opened his present he was Furious I sent Rabbi Yehuda a beautiful Jewel and he sends me a simple SC scroll I don't even know what this scroll is it is probably not even worth as much money as my Jewel King araban sent his Royal Guard to arrest Rabbi Yehuda and bring him in to explain himself King araban screamed and yelled at Rabbi Yehuda I sent you a beautiful Jewel worth a lot of money and you send me a simple scroll and explain yourself rabi Huda smiled and said your majesty my friend you sent me something beautiful indeed but your gift needs to be guarded and protected I had to lock it up in a chest just to keep it safe the scroll I sent you is a muuza a mizza is a special Mitzvah that brings hashem's protection so instead of you needing to protect it and keep it safe the mua's job is to protect you and keep you safe King aravan now understood that rabi yehuda's gift was truly a thoughtful one from that day on King aravan kept that muuza close and he and Rabbi Yehuda stayed good friends the end wow you know I'd love to get a mizza as a gift well anytime a friend sends you a a gift it's always nice to send one back or at least send a thank you card it's a bathroom and we do not put a muuza on the bathroom door keep going 10 [Music] mouas all right let's head back downstairs and find one more [Music] mizza oh that's right there's a back door let's see if there's a muuza on the back door too there it is 11 mouas 11 muas in Leia's house you can try this game at your own home see how many muas your family has is it just one on the front door or are there lots of muas all around the house well I know kissing a muuza sometimes can be difficult when the muuza is all the way at the top part of the door and you might be a little bit too short to reach up to the muuza so I'm going to make a really fun craft with you to help you reach and kiss the mauza the first thing we're going to need is your hand you're going to take a a piece of cardboard or thick paper and just Trace one of your hands on the paper okay now we're going to cut that out all right there we go now you could give yourself a high five we can put the rest of that paper on the side and the marker on the side and we can put our hand on the side too now the next thing we could do are one of two things either you could just tape your hand to the end of a long stick or ruler that way you have a longer arm to help reach the muuza way up high that could be a really easy way to reach appli to the muuza but we're going to do something different today what we're going to need is one of two things you could either use rectangle cutouts of cardboard thick cardboard or thick paper works best or you could use a wooden popsicle stick the bigger the better and what we'll do starting off with the cardboard rectangle is we'll take a pen or a pencil and we're going to poke a hole in three places one right in the middle get your make sure your pen pokes all the way through you can ask a grown-up or a big brother or sister to help you do this part we're going to poke another hole on one end of the cardboard and a hole on the other end of the cardboard that way you have a hole in the middle and a hole on either side now you can also use a popsicle stick and for the popsicle sticks you might need a grown-up to help you poke the holes in the wood they could either use a drill or they could use a screwdriver to just scratch out the holes on the popsicle stick but for today we'll use some of each now we're going to need to do that six times all right okay you're also going to need for this craft some of these round head Fasteners these are called Butterfly clips and you'll see how they work they could be bought at any kind of you know home office store or Walmart or even online on Amazon all right so we're going to take one of those Fasteners and we're going to place it right in the middle of one of our cardboard pieces and then we're going to place it in the middle of another cardboard we're going to make an X okay upside down now we open up the butterfly wings so they stay in place great the next thing we're going to do is attach two more cardboard pieces attaching now the end holes one butterfly clip through the the end hole and then through the other another end hole of one of our x's and again we're going to fold our butterfly clip and the same thing on this side and fold our butterfly clip all right great now we want to connect these two together the these two sticky out ones together the same way we did our other X we're going to make another X by placing these together and putting on a butterfly clip right in the middle dots of both of them so that's how it looks so far and now we want to add two more to the long part we're going to add a butterfly clip on the end of a new one to the end of one of the x's and of course open up that butterfly clip and the same thing on the other side too all the way on the end open up that butterfly clip all right so now you see how it works all right great so now what we're going to do is attach our hand our cardboard hand to our Grabber we're going to do this on the long side we're going to place a butterfly clip through the end of our Grabber then we're going to poke a hole into the bottom of our hand and place the butterfly clip through the hand as you can see and and then we'll close it up with the other side of the Grabber that way we're kind of making a sandwich with our hand in the middle and then of course open up that butterfly clip to keep it in place and there we go and now we have a really long arm extendable arm to kiss a muuza if it's very far away there we go so you could go from really low and then who really high and you could kiss your muuza from really high up up up high on the doorway is that funny that's a really fun way to make an extend arm Grabber there you go so if you were too short to kiss the muuza that's okay because now with the rabbi B extendo arm you could do it yourself and of course using the wooden sticks you can make one even longer wow look how long that one can reach all right well I hope this helps you kiss that muuza that's way up high well our mouas are up our home is now a Jewish home and now we can start unpacking decorating and getting our house ready for more come along with Rabbi B episodes all right
