Rabbi B - Happy Chanukah

[Music] oh hi there hello it's me rabbi Vee and today I'm together with my friend Ellie hi Ellie hi and of course as always we're together with Devorah the bee hello Devorah the world looks very happy today divor are you feeling happy today is that because you love Chanukah oh I love Chanukah Ellie do you love Konica oh yeah what's your favorite part of Hanukkah Oh a ting the Hanukkah food what's your favorite Hanukkah food Oh latkes I love jelly doughnuts myself tomorrow what do you like honey I guess it's what bees like they like honey anyways Ellie Devorah and myself are busy getting ready for Chanukah and we have some paper in front of us don't we yes we do I have a white piece of paper Ellie what color do you have pink and devorah you have yellow that's right and we're gonna do something called dreidel painting have you ever done dreidel painting before alright so what are we gonna need first paint we need some paint the first thing we're gonna do is add some paint to our paper right in the middle I think I'll start with red paint I'll put some red paint right in the middle of my poor not too much just enough and you'll do some blue oh yeah use the back of this book can I help you with that their bladder okay scoop it out alright and next to do great oil painting what are we gonna have to use a dreidel exactly I think I'll use this small dreidel here that I use before all right and what we do is you can dip your dreidel into the paint and then give it a little spin and of course as you can see we have some special board paper on our table to protect our table to from getting a little bit too messy because you see the paint splatters a little bit or dreidel could roll off the paper so want to be careful just have some extra paper on top of your table especially if you're using a nice table careful now that's okay and of course have some wipes on hand and devorah I would like some paint too I'll add some paint for Devorah how about a little bit of purple over you Devorah I like color purple there we go and I'll help you go there there you go all right very nice there you go very nice all right and I'm gonna do a little bit more with my red and of course dreidels spin around around and around and you can see the four letters unknown and gimel Hey and the shin I'm using a wooden dreidel what kind of dreidel are you using Oh plastic Drano very good oh right spinning around a bit more and I think I'm gonna add some more color I think I'll add first let me add some yellow you keep going le I don't add some yellow to my paper and I'm gonna add some nice yellow color and I think for yellow I think I'll use this big one hey before I like the big dreidel yeah that's a big one see that one le it's have nice big wooden drape you keep going there and I'm gonna spin the yellow oh wow look at that big summer she made all right then I'm gonna keep going and of course I'll you can add any colors yet another color if you like what are you gonna put there some red oh very nice red and blue what color does red and blue make that's right maybe we'll make a nice purple picture and devorah how are you doing over there doing a good job already wants to take a look at your picture afterwards [Music] what that in Israel you have a pain oh yeah instead of a note instead of a shin they have a page because the Hebrew word for here because we're here in North America and we have the letter Shin because Shin means shun over there because the Hanukkah miracle happened over there in that's right Eric's Israel in Israel and in Israel they don't have to say over there because they are there so they're here and then here in Hebrew you'd say oh so nice Gadol hayah Pope or Nez Gadol hayah shop I think I'll add I'm gonna add some lotion oh how about some blue I'm gonna use how many use your blue action I'll use this nice blast dreidel and I'll put some blue paint on my radio okay too much of a mess and devorah is still painting away right that's a blue to the corner here spin this straight I'll see if I can spin it around oh yeah [Music] any colors you like [Music] yellow and if you don't ha ha ha and if you don't know how to spin a dreidel you could do what Devorah is doing and just color with the dreidel which is also a fun way to do some dreidel painting just kind of move the dreidel through the paint and you can kind of have some fun [Music] of course to be careful and to spin that dreidel around alright I think I'm done how's yours looking there Ellie alright how's yours Devorah alright so let's pick up our pictures that's my dreidel picture it's all squiggly and swirly Oh you're hiding your vase there let's see yours oh yeah look at that look at those swirls going all the way off the paper that's the fun of dreidel painting you never know where the dreidel is gonna go and let's see devorah's nice picture I'll pick it up like this oh yeah devar oh you drew a nice kind of nice purpley pictures and that's perfect because no matter how old you are or how good a dreidel spinner you are you can do this artwork and it'll always look just right because you made it yourself so try it yourself at home all you need is paints and dreidels some paper and some extra paper to make sure the paint doesn't get on the table well wishing you guys a Happy Hanukkah and if you do make a nice trade oil painting picture please on on the people well hi there I'm here with a very special friend it's district Chief Jack ben b he of Vaughn Fire and Rescue Services and he's a firefighter hi jack hi Rena baby thank you so much for coming and speaking with well nice to see you again of course always a pleasure while here with my friend over here and we're wondering what does a firefighter do well firefighters go to a lot of emergencies we go to medical calls we go to fire alarms we go to car accidents and of course rather be we go to fires to fire so I know fires are very dangerous and we don't want to go ever near a fire because fire is hot but what does a firefighter do to keep himself safe oh that's a good question rabbi B we actually have special clothes we have our bunker gears and helmet and maybe I can show you what it's like I'd love to see that what do you wear tell me some of the things that you might wear in a fire well before we leave the station we jump into her bunker blew them into her bunker boots our bunker pants and we pulled them up with our suspenders oh my goodness do this at all hours of the day of the night and then we move on put our bunker jacket mm jump onto the truck and get ready to go to that call Wow you look like your legs are ready for the fire and very safe and a fire and that with those special pants and boots but it looks like your top part of your body might not be so safe you are something on the top of your body yes then deserve bunker jacket Ungar jacket Wow now that looks like a very thick jacket it is right baby it's there to protect us so in case we have to go into that fire where there's lots of heat we don't get burned Wow now is this a the same kind of jacket that I would be able to have for myself on everyday kind of jacket oh no Rev IV this is specially made just for firefighters okay so it's a very fire safe kind of jacket just just for firefighters now I see your legs are safe I see your top body is safe now I see your hands do not look safe in a fire because there's nothing covering them oh look what I have I knew it I knew now those are special kinds of global fire they're for firefighters and there are third picked us again if we go to those fires so we don't burn our hands or maybe we're gonna touch sharp objects we don't want to cut ourselves up so you're being extra extra careful in the fight all the time safety comes first safety is very important and that's why we're having this talk now as far as safety looks like most of your body is pretty safe but I think there's one part fireman jack that is not so safe boys and girls do you know what part of firefighter Jack is not safe right now that's right his head now I'm sure there's something you wear on your head there is it's the firefighter helmet wow that's a great helmet and it looks really thick and big now what is this helmet special what's special about this helmet instead word in case we're crawling around into tight areas and we bump her head it's there to protect us all right and if something is falling down and also it'll protect us as well Wow that's a very protective and safe firefighter helmet now can did you do have the fate of anything for your face to help you breathe in a fire if there's smoke how it was a firefighter gonna breathe in the smoke so then we go put the face piece on a face piece Wow now your whole body looks like it's protected against very hot fire and also this mask looks like it helps you if there's a lot of smoke absolutely as a matter of fact we would connect four masts to an air stone there so we're breathing normal air we don't want to be breathing in smoke it's very dangerous for you now right now firefighter jack you look a little bit scary to me share our friends at home be scared if they see a firefighter Oh No where are your friends so boys and girls if you see firefighters and a lot of times we're going to be crawling in when there's a dangerous area a small tea area if you see us we're your friends we're out there to reach out and to save you and help you that's right and firefighter jack is a very good friend and very friendly and helpful and firefighters are always there to help so that's amazing you look really really good and ready I think maybe this year for poor him I'll dress up as a firefighter oh yeah well then I'm gonna dress up like you're a baby whoa I feel like a real firefighter now and you look like rabbis IV well thank you so much for coming today but there's another important thing to know what do we do if there is a fire so rabbi B there's a fire we should get out of the house get away from the smoke go to a safe area let's tell a grown-up and of course call nine-one-one Wow great advice to get away from the fire tell a grown-up and call 911 well this before okay bye-bye well Happy Hanukkah [Applause] [Music] I love Hanukkah and on Hanukkah I like to play with dreidels dreidels are a fun toy that spin around my friend Aaron has a big dreidel collection he has all kinds of dreidels of all different colors and sizes he even has a dreidel mezuzah how many dreidels does he have he has more than 500 dreidels just look at all of them he has some dreidels made of clay some made of glass some are made of plastic and some are made of metal he even has dreidels made of wood silver and even gold most rattles are square and have four sides that means most dreidels have four letters one on each side there's none gimel hay and shin dreidels from Israel have none gimel hay and pay what is his favorite riddles Aaron loves all his dreidels but he does have some favorites he likes this one because it's very old and this one because it is new he likes this one because it is very small and this one because it is very big can I start my own dreidel collection yes you can collect dreidels - over Hanukkah see if you can get a few different dreidels and keep them safe until next Hanukkah then on the next Hanukkah get a few more dreidels and for some olive oil great job thank you very much okay onwards to the toy room okay we're in the toy room now and now I'm looking looking looking for my three colorful dreidels can you please help me find them phenomenal thank you so much well I'm already I have my canoe Kia I have my olive oil and I have my three special stuffed dreidels and now I'm ready for sure have a Happy Hanukkah you well I'm here again with my good friend district chief Jack Ben be he a von Fire and Rescue Services and you know Hanukkah is such a wonderful time I love Hanukkah so do I very joy season really happy time and we want to stay happy and be safe and of course we know when we're talking about fire we're talking about menorahs and menorahs have fire absolutely so how can we be safe around a menorah that's a good question so make sure your mommy daddy they're around when the menorah is are late and you don't want to be around curtains drapes anything that's gonna be in the way cuz that could catch fire so like a decoration or anything that can cut be caught on fire should not be near the menorah that's right and of course make sure it's on a sturdy table yes a very sturdy table so the menorah shouldn't fall over or get knocked over exactly aha what if a child is helping their mom and your daddy light the menorah what should they do that's a good idea so it's very important for that boy or girl to be standing on a very sturdy surface so they don't fall over and maybe if they have long hair tie it up because we don't want the hair to fall over that could catch on fire so that could be very dangerous right now what about the candles the candles should be probably put in very safely and make sure that they don't topple over yes and it should be straight you don't want the candles to be tilted and of course always around an adult always with a mommy or daddy or an adult to help you now once the candles are lit on the menorah it's a very big mitzvah to stay near them and watch them and enjoy them now once the candles are already lit how can we be safe around them well let's make sure that we don't run around the table run around the candles we don't want to be throwing things and of course it's fun to play with your dreidels however we could do that in a separate area not next to the menorah hmm and keep all dancing as well away from the menorah where you're not going to
