[Music] have you ever played with puppets i love playing with puppets because they're a really fun way to have fun and express yourself and to tell a story and there are so many kinds of puppets to choose from and on my table here i have a bunch of puppets that i'd love to show you and maybe soon we can build some puppets and a puppet theater together and we can put on a show what do you say alright well the first kind of puppet that i want to show you is called a hand puppet of course this type of puppet uses a hand i'd like to show you the very first hand puppet that i ever got when i was born you want to see it i'll show it to you [Music] okay here it is this is my very first hand puppet yep let's say hello hand puppet hello see mr hand puppet is very happy to be here aren't you happy to be here mr hand puppet oh he's so happy he's saying yes with his head and he's buffing up and down oh he's laughing okay of course this is not a puppet it's my hand but you know that's the secret of hand puppetry you need to use your hand and in order to use your hand you need to learn how to use your hand for different ways one way is of course to speak you can make your hand talk like this [Music] or some people like to make their hand talk like this so you can use your hand in all kinds of ways another thing i could use my hands to show are feelings get your hand up like a mouth like this and let's make our hand puppets look happy what would your hand do oh look at that my hand is very happy he's dancing he has his mouth open he's like [Music] see and he's nodding his head that's how a happy person would move what if my hand was feeling sad what would my hand do then oh my hand is looking down he's kind of putting his head down like this kind of moving slowly like he's really sad oh no are you feeling sad oh he's saying yes in a sad way see you could use your hands for all kinds of things what about if my hand was very surprised he moved back like that that's funny what if my hand was feeling sleepy oh he's giving a great big yawn oh he's so sleepy oh he's sleepy or maybe my hand is angry he's like all like a fist oh no or maybe my hand is very scared [Music] he's shaking back so those secrets of how to use your hand are the secrets you're gonna use when you play with a hand puppet now let's make our hand puppet look a bit more like a puppet you know what it needs the most eyes i'm gonna give my puppet eyes i have here some ping pong balls and i attached them with a pipe cleaner like a string and i put them underneath so i put the pipe cleaner under my hand so now the eyes sit on top of my hand and now my hand puppet he looks like he's really happy oh hand puppet but guess what it's almost time to go oh look he's so sad i'm just joking he's laughing okay hand puppet now it's time for you to sing in front of all these kids oh he's feeling very scared oh hand puppy can you pretend to be angry oh he's very angry okay hand puppet time to go to sleep oh he's so sleepy so that's a fun way to use your hand in all different ways now of course when you think of a hand puppet you think of something that covers your whole hand so i have here an example of a hand puppet it's just a royal knight and if i put my hand inside it's a bit small for my hand but what i do inside is i can use my hand to be inside the hand puppets now you don't see my hand especially if i was blocked by a puppet theater or something and now my hand puppet is you know covering my hand and now he looks like a real person and inside the hand puppet my fingers are doing that so this pointer finger is the head my middle finger here is the hand and my thumb is the other hand and that's how i'm using my hand inside of the puppet my other two fingers are down so there we go my mr puppet here and of course the same thing goes if i want my puppet to be happy he's kind of bouncing around and he's happy he if he's feeling sad oh yeah puts his hands on his eyes and looks down oh and if my puppet is feeling surprised oh he's surprised and if he's angry he's like marching him mad okay puppet and if he's giggly or if he's mischievous so of course those are just actions you could do now also you can talk for your puppet and you can help people know what your puppet is thinking by having him talk so if you look at your puppet you can say hello puppet hello rabbi how are you today i'm doing great see when he's talking i move my hand around to make it show that he's the one talking hello another fun thing is to move him kind of around so if he's talking happy he could talk in a happy way i'm so happy i'm feeling very sad and all different kinds of feelings so that's one kind of hand puppet now this hand puppet has a face that doesn't move so he always looks the same way so at least this one doesn't have a happy face but if he had a happy face and he was sad it would be hard to pretend that he's feeling sad when he's smiling so they have other kinds of hand puppets that have mouths that could move this is a little girl i call her miriam is that your name and miriam is a little girl and i put my hand again up up up inside her head over here and this kind of puppet instead of using my fingers like a like think like the arms and the head i'm using my hand like before like this like the mouth moving up and down so when i open my mouth and close my mouth or my puppet's mouth for that reason so that's what she does so she's a very happy puppet [Music] i'm feeling very happy today oh good i'm feeling very happy today too yeah okay miriam yeah um guess what miriam what um um you know uh shabbat just finished and we have to wait a whole week for shabbat does that make you sad yeah i'm just kidding we're happy to be together just joking i'm not really sad i like shabbat but it's almost coming back right yeah shabbat is coming back again of course and okay miriam what if i told you you have to give a speech in front of everybody in the audience oh she'd be very nervous and very scared oh my goodness oh miriam so miriam my little puppet here of course i can make her talk with my mouth with my hand make her mouth move so another trick you could do is when you move the puppet side to side it makes it look more like she's doing the talking than if she's just like a stiff statue hello there it is me as opposed to hello there it's me miriam now some puppets that have a mouth for talking also have a stick attached to their arm i'm gonna attach a stick just temporarily all right so if you attach a stick into her hand now when you move her head around you can also use your other hand to move her hand so now she could wave she can rub her tummy i'm so hungry she could say shema israel hashem i wish i had longer arms yeah me too huh she could brush her hair see miriam could use her hands now you could even get another stick and use two hands at a time it's a little bit harder but you could use a stick and the puppet and you could have both hands at work to make the puppet look like they're alive but really a puppet is not alive a puppet is just a toy that we are making alive with our hand huh another thing you could use on your hand are your fingers there are finger puppets here's a funny clown finger puppet these are puppets that just go on your finger [Music] and here is a saxophone player in a marching band let me get him on my finger here let me hear some saxophone music from [Music] you good job and mr clown so you could play a finger puppet play with some finger puppets too so your hand could come in use for lots of fun ways to play now another kind of hand puppet that i'm sure you know is a puppet that actually does use my hand but i hide my hand inside of a glove now this could look like a spider maybe oh an incy wincy spider or i use my black glove and fingers as the legs of devorah the bee that's right devorah the bee is a puppet too so i put devorah on top of my hand and now she has fingers or her legs for crawling around [Music] so devorah the bee is also a puppet that i got and i added the fingers and a glove underneath to make her look like she's crawling oh she's crawling on me now and i can make her shake around now devorah doesn't talk she doesn't have a mouth to talk but i could make her have the feelings too like if devorah is happy she can kind of fly around in a happy way and if she's feeling sad she can kind of look down and if she's scared she can kind of shake so there's different things you could do with your hand and she could also give me a tickle devorah you're so silly all right well that's another kind of hand puppet that's devorah the bee now those hand puppets there's lots and lots of different kinds of hand puppets out there and you could make your own hand puppets you know one fun hand puppet that i like to make is a sock puppet where you literally take a sock just to sock an old sock from your daddy or yourself or a big brother and you put it on your hand now of course i made here a sock puppet that looks like a snake because i thought when you put a sock on your hand it kind of looks like a snake so that's a sock puppet maybe you're telling the story of adam and chava and ganedan or something so that's my little sock puppet see you use a sock to make a puppet and there's so many types of puppets you can make and try and try it yourself it's lots and lots of fun okay the next kind of puppet it still uses your hand but it's a puppet that uses a stick it's called a rod puppet now rod puppets are puppets that use rods sticks these sticks are used to hold the puppet up and this puppet here is queen esther let's say hello to queen esther for the from the purim story hello queen esther um queen esther it's time to wake up come out come out wherever you are uh oh queen esther does not want to come out how can we i know let's be very quiet and see if queen esther comes out of her hiding spot oh did you see her let's try it again be very quiet there she is hello queen esther oh queen esther you are very very fun and very happy to be here see we are have some friends watching all about puppets and you are a rod puppet oh she's jumping up and down she's so happy that she's a rod puppet and rod puppets again are puppets that use stick see to push her up and down i'm pushing this stick up and down i can also turn the stick and that turns the puppet so again if i had a puppet theater blocking this cone part of the puppet you would only see the queen and she could walk around and she could dance and she could bow and she could twirl around and she could be the hero of the purim story and i have other puppets from the purim story too do you know who me who miriam miriam was the other puppet do you know who queen esther's uncle was in the story he was the rabbi at the time and he was a very big sadiq and saved the day of course queen esther saved the day the most but her uncle also helped save the day that's right mordecai i think i have a mordecai puppet here somewhere oh yes i do here is my mordechai s uh rod puppet and mordechai rod puppet see he has a big beard and he has a special cape and maybe underneath he's wearing his tsitsit because te khe let mordechai people know he wore his special tzitzit but of course mordechai he has a nice keeper and he's a very happy happy man and of course he would not bow down to haman mordechai was very brave so are you a very brave puppet see he always stands up nice and tall and very brave and he looks around to see what's going on to make sure esther is being safe very nice oh right there's also a king in the story hmm i think i have a king rod puppet here is my king ahashverosh he was the king in the purim story and this is my funny king akashvirosh puppet of course he's got the crown on his head and he has his royal cape and his royal beard he's so funny and he's a very very fancy fun puppet he's also a rod puppet and he can also do funny things he could dance and he could twirl around and all the same things now when i want to make the rod puppets talk i have to move them up and down a little bit so he'll be like hello my name is king ahashverosh it is so great to meet you and i'm so happy to be here hear ye hear ye i am the king of the whole world um yes i don't think you're the king of the whole world i am no hashem is the king of the whole world you're just the king of hodu ad kush the king of persia oh well i'll settle for that then see you later rabbi b he always likes to hide inside of his castle over here and of course at the beginning of the story king akhashvirosh had a wife he had another queen but she was not as nice as queen esther she was very wicked and her name was vashti and vashti was very very mean yeah i'm a mean mean queen and you have to do whatever i say and i always get my way queen vashti you have to say hello and be nice no i don't want to be nice queen vashti oh you're not a very nice queen at all not like queen esther but of course you see queen vashti she has her rosy cheeks she's wearing a purple dress and she also has a crown on her head and she's very funny she's like the wicked queen of the story oh talking about wicked people we have one main wicked guy from the purim story he wore a triangle hat and his name was come on [Music] this puppet i use sometimes for haman he's a puppet with a pirate costume on he's a pirate costume i always imagine haman was kind of like a pirate always taking things without asking never saying please and always doing the wrong thing i am on russia and you will not tell me what to do you have to bow down to me come on oh my goodness we're gonna have to send you to school to learn how to behave yourself i don't want to go to school all right well those are my purium rod puppets i have other rod puppets too and there are lots and lots of very fun rod puppets as well now another fun kind of a rod puppet would be these guys over here their names are keragus and they are from the country of turkey that's right now my father actually comes from turkey and he brought me these puppets from turkey thanks dad now these are very very special they're also rod puppets they have a stick behind them and they work with a stick behind them and they're also made to be able to wave and wiggle around like this so when they're walking around i'll move mr snake pop it over here and they could kind of walk around and move around in different fun ways now the way these puppets work because they have a stick going this way they're actually shadow puppets and very soon i'll show you some shadow puppets that you could even make yourself and play with yourself but these are my turkish shadow puppets and these are really fun puppets to play with and even to watch they do all kinds of funny stories their names are keragus and hajivat and they are very fun to play with but they're very delicate these ones are made out of wood so these are my turkish rod puppets yeah all right now another country that likes rod puppets is russia here are some special russian rod puppets that my friend made for me thank you and these rod puppets are the same idea they have a rod a stick that you hold them by but the way that these puppets work is you can hide your hand underneath their clothes and you can pick them up and you can have them move around now this guy he's very funny his name is boris hello boris hello rabbi b how are you doing oh baruch hashem very good to see you a very happy day today and i'm having a great day getting ready for purim yes me too well you are very very fun to look at and this is a puppet again that is a rod puppet you could use your imagination that he's alive because you don't see my arm or my hand moving him no no and instead i'm moving him with my hand underneath and he has a head over here made out of a styrofoam ball yeah it's a styrofoam your head is a styrofoam ball i didn't know that no wonder i have no headache all right that's my funny little russian puppet and his wife is olga and here is olga hello there hi olga hello rabbi hello boris hello olga and they are my funny puppets together they like to tell stories and do dances and have lots and lots of fun together so these are my fun russian rod puppets oh they're taking a bow very good okay very very fun so those are some puppets that use your hand either underneath the puppet or inside the puppet there are also puppets that you go above them those are called marionettes let's take a look at some marionettes this kind of puppet is called a marionette and a marionette is a puppet that you use from on high and it's used usually with strings so an example of a marionette would be this rabbi puppet over here these strings over here attach to his arms so i could use them to move his arms up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and the strings on the side here are attached to his legs so he can move his legs and walk around and he could do a dance he's doing a nice kazakhstan now this one's very delicate and he comes all the way from the city of prague the old city of prague and he got broken but another puppet that i like to use is my clown puppet this clown puppet is very silly because this clown puppet i could use with my guitar now you can see the strings are attached because they're green and my screen behind me is green but he has strings that attach to my guitar so when i lift up my guitar he stands up and when i put down my guitar he goes down up and down up and down and he loves to do a dance around song here we go the funny little clown he loves to dance around the funny little clown as funny as can be oh will oh will oh will he dance with me [Music] like san carton [Music] tea [Music] take a bow mr clown [Music] [Laughter] there you go so marionettes are that use strings now one thing i'm gonna need before i can play with my puppets is a really good puppet theater now what i like to use for puppet theaters are one of these cardboard display boards see they open and close so you can use those as the arms to keep the puppet theater up so i can have the puppet theater standing up like this and i can have my puppets playing inside so this is the right thing to use now what you want to do is you're going to want to make a screen cut out of the puppet theater in order that you can play behind it to show your puppets but not you all right so we're going to have to cut some holes now before we begin make sure you have a grown-up mommy or a daddy or a big brother or sister helping you do this a grown-up someone that is allowed to use sharp things because for this project you're going to be needing some very sharp tools and even some hot glue so make sure a mommy or daddy or a grown-up is helping you do this part of the craft you can be in charge of the puppeteering that's playing with the puppets here we go and there you go now i have my puppet theater you know you could use the puppet theater like this you didn't have to decorate it at all you could have your puppets here and you could be hiding and having some fun but i'm going to do a lot more to my puppet theater just watch wow there you go see i decorated my puppet theater and now i'm ready to put on a puppet show uh oh i'm gonna need some puppets first let's make some different kinds of puppets together i'll show you how to do it and you could try it yourself and then you'll be ready to put on your very own amazing puppet show one type of puppet that i really love to make is a shadow puppet this is a puppet that you don't really see the features of the puppet but you do see its shadow and all you need are some very basic things to make your shadow puppet you're just going to need some glue some tape a skewer or stick a piece of black paper thicker and cardboard paper works best the pair of scissors and the picture of what you want to make now i think a good place to start is to make a butterfly because it's an easy shape it's easy to cut out and it looks really really nice as a shadow puppet now because this paper that i printed the picture of the butterfly on is very thin i'm gonna glue it on to my black paper you don't have to cut it out yet because we're gonna cut it out after so get some glue and be really good with the glue on your butterfly or any picture the best thing about this kind of craft is you could print any picture that you like it doesn't have to be a butterfly it could be an animal it could be a person it could be a rocket ship an airplane whatever you like okay so just make sure that your butterfly is taped on really really well it doesn't matter if it looks dirty or if it's kind of smooshy because you're going to be cutting it out and you're only going to see the shadow of the puppet so now we're going to cut out the puppet we're going to cut out the butterfly [Music] and try to do as best as you can but if you're not so good at cutting ask a grown-up a mommy a daddy a big brother or sister to help you cut and just make sure the scissors you're using are not too sharp i like to try to cut it out as really well as i can because the better you cut it out the more like a butterfly or whatever animal you're cutting will look all right and there we go i've cut out my butterfly it looks really really nice okay but a shadow puppet the way you want it to work is you want to use the black side for your puppet because that's going to make the best shadow on your shadow board so i'm going to use the back of the butterfly which is the actual paper print that i printed as the back okay now you're going to need your wooden skewer i always like to break off the point just so it's not too pointy now the next thing i need to do is make a tab on the top of the skewer and here's how i do that i take a piece of tape best to use a thick or good duct tape or a thick thick tape like this and i'm going to tape the skewer right into the tape but i'm going to let a little bit of a lip go at the top so when i fold over the tape there's going to be a bit of space between the skewer and the top of the tape that way i'll have a bit of movement in mice in my tape so you can see here my tape has a bit of wiggle room see that i can wiggle my tape around okay once i have the tape taped on i want to cut it to be a bit more straight so it kind of looks like that all right so that's how the skewer looks now the skewer has a piece of tape and the tape at the top has a bit of a flippy flop to it now i'm ready to tape it to the back of my butterfly now you could use either side of the butterfly really but i like to use the black side as the front so i'm going to tape the tape onto the back or the in this case the front of the butterfly okay what i need is some tape i'm going to tape right by the flap and i'm going to tape that onto the back of onto the back of the butterfly i'm also going to make sure that the tape doesn't stick out of the butterfly too much because you want to be able to see the butterfly if it does you could just cut off a little bit of tape or you could push it down but that's pretty good okay see now i can actually i have a bit of a flop flip to my butterfly see my butterfly is not necessarily so flat i can do it like that now i want to get the bottom of the butterfly as well just a little bit of tape you don't need very much for this project just to tape the other way onto the back of the butterfly as well and if you have any extra tape the best thing of duct tape is you could just squish it and fold it and there so now basically my butterfly should be able to my sticks to almost be straight down to the butterfly that way it looks as though it's kind of hanging perfectly the stick is perfectly right in the middle of the back so when i hold up the butterfly you won't see the stick so much even if i hide the stick this way it can maybe look like a butterfly flying around already and you could use your imagination that it's real but this is a butterfly shadow puppet i'm gonna need to put it behind a shadow box and i'll show you how to do that too all right well now i have my butterfly shadow puppet and i have my puppet theater but of course right now if i would use my puppet theater you'd be able to see everything that's going on over here because it's just see-through what i'm gonna need to do is build a screen and i've already done that i've built a screen here just with a little little bit of cardboard for the frame and this is a piece of parchment paper just from your kitchen some parchment paper so now the parchment paper acts as a screen and now we can make our light box and it's very easy what i did is i put a little bit of a velcro on the back of my screen this is the soft velcro and on the back of my puppet theater i put some other kind of velcro the the harder part of the velcro so what i can do now is i attach my screen to the back of my puppet theater so now that my puppet theater has the screen now from behind the screen you won't be able to see from this side from the back you won't be able to see through because there's parchment paper what i need now also for the back of the screen is a light i have here my lamp and this lamp is going to light up our puppet theater box and i put the lamp right behind the box like this so now on the other side of the box it's going to be lit up and now what i'll do is and i'll put the light a little closer so my hand doesn't go in front of the light that way now when i put my butterfly in front you can already see you see the shadow of my butterfly well look on the other side of the puppet theater you'll be able to see the butterfly flying around take a look go to the other side all right do you see that you see the butterfly flying around hmm it's a little bit hard to see because it's light in my room but if i turn off the lights you see how it looks you see how now you can almost not you almost can't even see my hand if i move the light of it you can't even see the stick so much you just see the butterfly flying around and zooming around and you can have it shaking to make it look like it's fluttering and if i take the butterfly away from the screen it gets bigger and then it disappears because now it's behind the light and if i wanted to go in front of the light here it comes so that's my little butterfly flying around my shadow puppet box and the nice thing about shadow puppets is you can make any shape and you could use your imagination let's take a look at some other shadow puppets that i've made and try to see if you can figure out what these shapes are here we go try this one what do you think this is oh very good that's a rhino yeah great imagination let's try another one how about oh here's a good one what about okay let's try another one how about this animal that's right it's an elephant that's right so we have an elephant oh and look mr rhino is coming to say hello hello mr elephant hello mr rhino and of course with shadow puppets if anybody is talking you can move the puppet that's doing the talking that way people know who's talking hello there hello there how are you i'm good baruch hashem thank you [Music] very good all right what about hmm another fun thing i like to do sometimes what do you see oh looks like a night two nights and they're gonna have a sword fight that's a lot of fun to pretend that the knights are having a sword fight whoa oh no haha this one is the winner hahaha and what does he win maybe he wins hey or maybe he wins another fight okay bring another animal oh no what came hahaha oh no it's a dragon lots of fun all right well i have one more nice shadow puppet that i made also with the butterfly puppet i could also bake the butterfly see-through instead of using thick black paper for parts of the wings i could also use colored tissue paper and that would look like this isn't that beautiful beautiful orange butterfly flying around and because i used see-through tissue paper for this butterfly you can see the colors shine through and that's really really pretty wow really really nice that's right you can shake it around and make it look like it's shaking and flying and flopping its wings lots and lots of fun well that's how you play shadow puppets over here you just need to make yourself a little theater a screen and peekaboo a light and you can have all kinds of fun bye bye another really fun and easy puppet would be a rod puppet that i call a spoon head puppet the reason why i call it a spoon head puppet is because it uses a spoon now i use a wooden spoon because you know wooden spoons are much more stronger and they're a little bit taller than a regular spoon so they're really good for spoon head puppets and you don't need very much for spoon head puppets you probably don't even need a mommy or daddy's help because all you need is a spoon a pipe cleaner a cloth a marker maybe some glue and scissors if you need to decorate some more but a very simple thing to do with a spoon head puppet now which part of the spoon do you think will be the head of course the circle part and all you need to do is draw on the face this will be the head of the puppet so i'm going to take my marker and i'm going to draw a nose there that's a good nose and i'm going to draw how about a nice smiley face there we go now my puppet is missing eyes this is where you can get creative you can add googly eyes or you could just draw the eyes on with a marker so let's start with drawing the eyes on with a marker there we go a nice happy guy or instead if you want to add googly eyes you could do that too just get some googly eyes get some glue on the back and just glue them on there we go mr googly eye hello all right now for the body now you could do what i did in boo boo haman do you remember that music video that's right over there i used spoon head puppets but i covered them in paper so i made their costumes out of paper and then i just held them from the bottom so they had paper hats and paper shirts and you could do that too that's a really easy way to decorate but an easier way to decorate is with a cloth i usually like to use just a square hand towel and you can get these from the dollar store and what i do is i try to find about the middle of the of the square and just put a little black dot on that spot then i'll fold the cloth in half and just give a cut just a small little tiny small cut see a little little teensy tiny cut that way now i can put my spoon through the hole pull it all the way up and now i can hide my hand under the towel and mr spoonhead is a nice dancing puppet very cute now you're right he doesn't have arms yet so what i like to do with my pipe cleaner is i'll take the cloth i'll hold it at the top of his head as high as i like it and i'll use the claw use that i'll use the pipe cleaner as his hands now those are very long hands but if i wrap them around one time each way now my pipe my spoon head puppet has pipe cleaner hands and the pipe cleaners also hold the towel in place so now my spoon head puppet is all ready to go and that was not very hard at all it didn't take very long to make it see mr spoon head pop and he could dance around and be happy and play all day and of course as i'm playing my hand is hidden so you don't see my hand underneath here and you could use your imagination any way you like to decorate you could add hair you could add a mustache or beard you could add ears you could add whatever you like pom poms the sky is the limit and if you're going to use any kind of decorations the best kind of glue to use would be a hot glue from a hot glue gun if you're going to use that make sure a mommy or daddy or a grown-up help you with that because it could get very hot and you could just glue on some hair with some string or yarn or even another pipe cleaner you could use your imagination in so many ways there you go mr spoon head puppet another kind of rod puppet you could make using our wooden skewers would be a rod puppet that you hold from the top and you hold the puppet down this would be used for things that are maybe flying in the sky in your puppet show so some things that fly in the sky perhaps like a cloud so what i do is i'll cut out my picture of a cloud let's just cut out one cloud for this time all right there we go one cloud so now what i'll do with my cloud is i will attach one of these wooden skewers to the back of the cloud but instead of attaching it to the bottom holding it up i'm going to attach it to the top holding it down so i'm going to attach this skewer to the back just use a little bit of tape it's the easiest way to attach it or you could hot glue it if you have a chance now because i printed this on paper it is a bit bit flimsy but that's okay for a cloud and another thing that could be in our show maybe a bird flying in the sky i have a little birdie here or i also have a butterfly that's i got from a store a very pretty butterfly and i could do the same thing i could attach my skewer to the butterfly exactly the same way that i did for my cloud just take a piece of tape and just stick it to the butterfly see do do do do do do your butt if i could fly by in the show very pretty now another stick puppet i have here is my caterpillar puppet now this caterpillar puppet is so fun because he can go all different directions but really it's used for down underneath and see i have a little caterpillar here oh he's turning around hey mr caterpillar can you do some jumping jacks one two three four five six can you do the moonwalk good job and you can boing around like a fun little named king akhash veros he lived in the city of shushan he was very proud of himself he had a big party and invited queen vashti but queen vashti did not want to come she was very mean and angry so king akhashvirosh found a new queen a jewish girl named esther esther was very shy in shushan there was a great rabbi named mordechai he learned a lot of torah he was very happy and brave in shushan there was also a man named haman he was very mean and angry he did not like mordechai so haman told the king to send mordechai and all the jewish people out of shushan mordechai was a little bit scared of what haman wanted to do but mordechai got all the jewish children together to learn torah and to pray to hashem mordechai told esther to ask the king to stop haman esther was a little bit afraid to do this but became very brave and asked the king the king agreed with esther and stopped haman's wicked idea the king then sent haman away haman was very sad murakai and esther and all the
