Give me one reason to be sad... The AriZal Hilula (The 5th of Av)

[Music] good evening everybody thank you all for coming we have a very very special evening tonight not because we're all sitting here together to learn Tor that's also but in a few minutes 20 minutes is a very special day tonight and tomorrow is the fifth day of the month of a so first of all closer to me it's my father's birthday so we're going to I'm going to dedicate the class to his Merit may he should have a long long long life healthy life but today the fifth of a is also the day that marks the death the hilah the Y of thead of the Holy Raba the pillar of the teachings of cabala that most of the cabala in the world right now now is from him and not only the cabala interpretations of Z most of the esoteric part of the Torah was revealed and taught to us by this special Rabbi Raba who is buried close to my house about uh 200 250 yards from my house in a very special Cemetery where many many many great holy sages are buried there so tonight is the marking of his death and the hilula is a much more important day than the birth dates and uh most people give significance to the birthday they do parties and everything you know there are some faiths that they the the birthday is not considered a good day and the death day is the good day so that's no that's when you finish your your your mission here really when you're thinking about it the birthday okay it can and maybe should be celebrated but the real celebration is the day that you leave the world and of course for us it's hard we mourn our loved ones when they pass but when it's talking about a Great Sage a great sadik then it's a great joy for us because it means that he completed his task in the world he did the rectification and T in the world and he left the world so for us it's marking a very very powerful day that if we do certain actions on that day of the the day that the sadik leaves the world uh by connecting ourselves to the holy Rabbi then we can be affected by his Greatness by his Holiness the point of the sadim as they they serve to us as a as a role model and uh we need to always look up at our sages at our teachers and take from that whatever they uh whatever they came to the world to teach so tonight is a powerful night because the the entire life and the entire teachings of the kados was about revealing the essence of things and not just looking at something from the outside and accepting it as it is because even in the world of the Torah for thousands of years it was black and white it was M black and white and only once the the What's called the wine of the Torah the secrets of the Torah was revealed then everything everything started getting meaning to it so the mitv got meaning the the Torah that we learn changed in the way how we explain and understand it so when we looking at the life journey of Theos and his main goal was to reveal the Unseen and to reveal the the the whether it's the esoteric part of the UN revealed part of the Torah then that was his entire motion his entire teaching and his entire path which if we want to connect in a spiritual level to that day to that energy then the energy will be translated that I can have the ability and the power to look at things and look at them Beyond What It Seems because really that's what I wanted to talk about today we had a few uh ideas one are we going to talk about today we even debated that three and a half minutes before I walked in because um uh normally people tell me we want to hear about this or we want you to talk about that some places just invite me and tell me just just talk so first of all I was very very very happy to see I I didn't know that there's a community in Irvine I didn't know that there's Torah and I'm I lived in Los Angeles 10 years ago not for such a long time I actually lived in Long Beach and I lived in the valley I didn't know there's a community in Irvine I knew there's Jews here I didn't know there's a big besset a big shoe so I was pleased happy to to be informed and to see I didn't know the Safar is sh skaz sh all together I mean best scenario we can have so first of all I'm happy H to see that and I'm honored to invite to be invited to your uh congregation and your community so thank you for all the ones who are involved and was was and were involved so again we were wondering what uh what should be the topic to talk about I mean I prepared what I want to talk about usually it's a not always how Hashem wants sometimes I come I plan to talk about one thing and then Hashem has a completely different plan and uh and he decides what is going to come out of my mouth so really what I want to give over tonight is a very very simple to understand thing but very very hard to apply but I think with the power of this day that the the Merit of theal who was very H strong and adamant about what we're going to talk about so I think it would be the most appropriate and I think it's going to hit a home run with God's help so the only really revealed to us Parts in the Torah that nobody has ever revealed to a point that to the ones who are interested he revealed the meaning of everything that you do when I became observant I became observant 20 plus years ago I grew up in Israel I grew up extremely secular the most secular you can imagine that's how I grew up and hating the Torah hating religion hating anything that has to do with the judism and Hashem took me on a very long journey in my life and when I was 27 years old I had Cardiac Arrest as a result of too much drugs and I flatlined I was clinically dead for 7 minutes and that's how I became observant from becoming a complete from from being a complete atheist secular Israeli that doesn't believe in anything then I made a 180 degree turn took a few years but the experience obviously changed ER changed me completely so a lot of people see this they're not familiar with the before H picture which is it doesn't really matter if I would if I would talk tonight about my experience then then then it would be a in applicable we not going to talk about that but why am I saying that because I became observant when I was 27 years old and I came from a place of resentment a place of not liking the Torah and a place of not liking anything that has to do with it so as much as I wanted to come closer to the Torah I still had my H my former instincts of questioning everything which turned out to be a positive thing because everything that I was told to do I said I want to I want a reason I want an explanation if you tell me to do a then I want to know why am I doing it if I understand why I'm doing it then I would love to do it and I not only that has importance it makes sense if you tell me just for the sake of example don't eat meat and dairy that was was the first thing that I did when I turned to the world of the Torah I had a few options what am I going to do I decided I'm going to put F in on every day and er a few little things and then I decided okay I'm I I because I didn't know I didn't know anything I didn't have a guide or a rabbi I knew we're not allowed to mix meat and dairy so I took on myself okay I'm not going to mix meat and dairy and uh in the beginning for me that was like uh just just to be observant on is this meat is this Dairy is it mixed how many time how much time was passed but since that was the first thing that was in my mind okay meet and dairy that was was stuck in my mind as a secular Jew then at first I started but very quickly I was like why aren't we allowed to eat meat and dairy so the answer I got because it says in the Torah so that wasn't a good answer for me and it's still not a good answer what do you mean so it says but why so when we received the Torah originally then the Torah came coded and like now when you read the Torah you read stories You Don't See Much mystical messages in the stories but the Torah is created and delivered in four levels four levels how the Torah is being a a h learned which the first level it's the more external part which is called theat theat means the simple explanation of what the Torah says but after that there's another level that is what is called remes a hint which is what the t is hinting and sometimes there are hints in the letters in the verses in the story there's going to be a hint it's called remes and then there's another level that is called Das the Das is the more indepth interpretation of what the simple meaning that we read and the last is called the Sod which is the secret and it brings to us an acronym that is called pares pares means an orchard but the four levels how the Torah can be explained are these four levels and the acronym of that is pares and many of the teachings of cabala uses the term pares the the term Orchard so when the Torah was given when we're looking in the Torah we're looking at the actual stories or what the text says that's theat that's the simple explanation and in many of the cases that doesn't even make sense but when it says a simple story mosu did this and that that's what it says that's what happened and one of the most dominating commentaries of all times is Rashi who says whatever you read that's what it happened it's not a ER metaphors if it says that there was a flood there was a flood it says that there was hell in the plague of the 10 plagues there was hell this is not inventions or metaphors but very quickly the Torah needed to be explained because most of what it says in the Torah or I will say the other way around most what we do most what we are commanded it doesn't say it in the Torah the most uh common example everybody knows that a Jewish man the basic thing what a Jewish man should do is put F in you ever saw the word Fillin in the in the Torah the entire T doesn't say the wordin so how how did we realize that when the Torah says that you should have a sign on your hand that it's referring to thein and the same thing is almost with everything it says in the Torah even when it's talking about to put a mza on the wall I what do I put on the wall it doesn't say what so almost everything in the Torah it said some things are clear don't come don't commit murder that's that's straight out but many of The Commandments they are very unclear or it doesn't even hint on what we need to do so right after we received the Torah mosu came and for 40 years taught the Torah in the oral version which was which was given to him while he was 40 days in the heavens he received the Torah it was downloaded to him and then when he came down to this world he took his time and he started explaining everything that up until today there are Parts in the in the oral Torah that there's no explanation or no ER h source and it says Moshe received it from SI there's no we can't explain it so for 40 years in the desert mosenu explains to the nation of Israel the oral Torah which later on orally goes down in the generations for almost a thousand years till the mishna was written and then the oral Torah started becoming more in a written version but for hundreds and hundreds of years that's where we got stuck so later on the interpretations and the explanations and the books about the third level the the the drash started slowly slowly coming with mid andar but it took many many years that the last part the S was revealed the first time it was revealed really is when the Z was written but even the Z wasn't revealed for many many years so the explanation of everything really came only a few 200 years ago that not only the holy AR explained most of it but many of the explanations started because of that so I attribute a lot of the spiritual Revelations to what we doing and how we doing and the cause and the meaning to the fact that the teachings of cabala was able to give it over to us so when I'm looking at tonight when it's the hulah the death day of the Aral and I will take his Merit and his life work to attribute it to what I want to gain then I need to look for something what is theal was very adamant about what was his teaching and how can I take it and to apply it into my life because I say it always in all my lectures like a broken record if you came to a Torah class and this by the way is applies almost to anything but so much more so to a Tor class if you come to a Tor class and you don't take something out of this class to apply in your life immediately then you wasted your time here you might have enjoyed a good Refreshments or you might have enjoyed a good talk it might have inspired you for three and a half minutes but if you didn't take the message that was said at least one because in a whole hour you can't take all the messages not too long ago I gave a class and in my Yesa inat and as I was talking in the class there was one guy going in out in out out in it was like it was actually very distracting somebody in the back walking in and walking out and uh and as I'm giving the class I I mention that listen in an hour an hour and a half class how much can you remember what the teacher said you understand everything you understand you accept you relate with it but you're still not in the level to remember it all you you're still maybe just processing it so at least one thing throughout the entire lecture that you hear will resonate and get stuck in your mind then that's what you need to take from the lecture one person remembers the final ER pitch another person remembers the some emotional Story another person remembers an example that is exactly what he does he or she so this man a few days later came and he came said and he said I apologize I was going in and out from your class I was I wanted to hear the class but I had some business to do I had to run out all the time but he says but I want to tell you one thing the you said that it's important to at least at least take one thing out of the entire lecture that's the part I heard so that's what I'm taking from that part I need to take from the lecture that one time I need to hear one thing and take one thing from the lecture so smart people they see an opportunity they grab it right away so you came here you're already sitting here so if you're smart you need to think already three steps ahead what am I taking out of tonight I mean what am I going home with so if you want to go home with something then you need to pay attention unfort in in our times I don't know how it was 100 years ago I can only testify what I see with my own eyes what I see with my own eyes is that we're going all going through challenges difficulties and many things in life that we need to juggle that we're not so happy with but in in in our times right now it's everybody everybody has something that they're dealing with and usually it's in the areas of either Finance or either Health H relationships within the family and then it ripples out to little things and then it ripples out too many other things but the reality is that all day long we are struggling with daytoday things some things they come one day and they pass some things are stuck in our front for three months half a year a year but it doesn't matter what it is everybody right now in the world not in this room in the world has a few things that they're kind of like juggling right now that is sitting to them here like a like a ball on your throat and uh not only that it's more than that it's a few things at the same time but I also noticed lately that everybody and I know why it's happening lately everybody and I'm talking about the last couple years not the last couple days the struggles that most people have are internal internal struggles in the level what for them is the hardest struggle inside and what it would be the what would be the result that the person eventually will either become sad depressed unhappy ER don't sleep well sick and many other many other symptoms the because the person is just worried and concerned all day long and one person is concerned and how he's going to make money too much debt the business is not going well and many stuff like that or another person is dealing with sickness another person can be worried all day long with what's going to happen with my kid and my kid when this and this one went there and that's drama everybody has drama all day long and every person in their department and what's hard for me for you doesn't even apply to you and what you're going through I don't even see eye to eye I don't even know I don't even have I can't even relate with what you're going to through but the sad reality is that everybody has something to deal with right now the reason for that is I will actually categorize it in three ways the first reason is that you get what you give okay you can call it karma you can call it however you want but what you throw out to the universe is going to come right back at you that's how it works you do positive things then positive energy comes to you you are nice to people then people will be nice to you the world will be nice to you whatever you do in this world is going to come back at you okay if you're looking at it in a biblical term you do a sin then there's going to have to be a reaction that's it now every person in their head the severity of sins is different is completely different I'm not saying I'm not right now even talking about sins that are more in the in the concern of an observant individual okay let's now remove that talking about in a human level just in a human level between me and another person most people sin on a daily base all day long now what is going to be the result from that what you throw out to the world that's what it's going to come back at you that's it one way or another now when I'm saying sins that we don't really look at them as necessarily an observant individual I'll give you the one that we all fail every day constantly it's called gossiping all day long people gossip and slander and tell stories and lie and make up things and constantly is this thing going on that's a severe sin doesn't matter if you're observant or if you're not observant has nothing to do if you keep Shabbat or if you eat culture it doesn't matter and it doesn't matter if you're a Jew or non-jew by the way so this is something simple in our day-to-day life most people don't even pay attention that type of energy that you are involved in and you are projecting into the world it comes right at you and that's one example are of many one thing that I can tell you is the most I don't know if to say I take it back maybe not the most severe but one of the most severest things that theem doesn't like at all and all of us fail in that every day is that we're all liars we all lie to find a person that only speaks truth is very very rare now there are many prohibitions in the Torah and many warnings in the Torah but about lying the Torah says run away from that it doesn't say run away from idolatry or run away from incest it says run away from any type of lying so from that you can already see that the master of the universe takes that as the very serious thing to a point that God decided that his seal like a king a king seal where he signs things it's called the Seal of Truth more more than that our sages call the world above the world of Truth and this world Alik the world of descent the the world of lying everything here is a lie so I take from that that's what I learned from that one of the first thing that I did is that Hashem doesn't like liars he doesn't like anything that has to do with distorting the truth lying exaggerating completely three times a day we pray a certain prayer which is a verse it's a chapter of and a verse of attached to it and towards the end we read a very powerful verse that says is close to all the ones who call him for all the ones who really call him but the right way of reading it all the ones who call him means that you talk to Hashem prayer and anything that you do and then you put a comma and say be that everything that you do is to reach to a point that you are sharp 100% truth very very rare when I became observant I didn't run to Yeshiva and learn how to put filin on I said first I need to make myself available how can I come and pray in a synagogue or learn Torah when my mind is full of junk my mouth lies cheats curses uses foul language talks man how can I now open a Sid and say so one of the first things that I focused on when I became observant is my mouth not what was going in most observant people are worried what goes in but most people don't even care what comes out that's a big problem so you know what did I hated the fact that I used to use foul language I'm talking about before I became observant and another thing that I would lie all the time so I made myself a little task and I bought a little notebook and every time that I would lie I would write down the lie and the time that I said it and then at the end of the day when I sat on my bed and did the Bedtime shma then I opened my book and I saw how many times I lied and what was the lies and I realize how 90% of these lies are nonsense nonsense somebody calls you you're late for a meeting where are you what's your ETA you're looking at the GPS you're saying I'm there in 5 minutes no you're not you liar the GPS says 38 minutes now what do you think is going to happen between the 5 minutes Mark to the 38 minute Mark the person is going to get a concussion lose his conscious and he's out of conscience for 38 minutes and when you come late oh I didn't notice oh you hear on time what what did you expect will happen what another five minutes oh don't ask a whole accident so now one light DRS drags you to the next light and before you know you don't you don't remember what the first thing you said everything was okay with the accident what accident the one you're in oh no oh yeah yeah yeah yeah no no everything worked out Hashem doesn't like people who lie because Hashem says this is the reality and not only that I want you to deal with it I want you to acknowledge it and when you come up with a new reality then you are you are distorting my creation so when I became observant for me to just come to the next step first of all I have to remove all sorts of junk that cannot come together with a way of life of a person who wants to get connected to the master of the universe some things are like a no no way before I started observing Shabbat then way before I sat in Yesa and way before I did many of these things the the transformation was completely in a different level so I found that there are certain things that you need to do in order to come one step closer to the master of the universe now when I'm looking like I told you all around and I see what's going on so this is a very simple explanation why things like this happen I told you I will break it into three categories the first one is that you you get what you what you put out there that's it it's very very simple I'll elaborate on that very soon but it's very very simple you smile in the morning to to your wife or to your husband she'll smile back at you now now I'm traveling now you know I haven't been to the United States for 5 years and not because that I didn't want I I the the government the government didn't want to let me in I was banned from here can't come in now that I the the ban was removed so I came now to two uh tours in the east coast and I was planning the tour in the west coast and uh last visit I told my wife listen all these flights backwards and forth they're very hard do you mind if we do like one big visit so we end up doing that I'm here in the United States for two months but this time I brought my entire family so right now we're still in the early stages I only have some of my kids here my wife is flying in tonight so my my karma I have the worst worst karma when it comes to traveling I don't know what I did in a previous life I I I miss flights all the time doors close right in front of me everything I come like at the last second everything with me in traveling is drama but serious drama just coming here I finished a lecture I was in New York I finished a lecture was 2:00 in the morning I drove to the airport from the lecture when my flight is at 7 in the morning I got to the airport at 3: 4 hours before the flight and still missed the flight I I just saw just driving into the airport how the GPS took me to a completely different place I was like okay this is that's it another flight 4 hours before the flight I came we traveled with we were four people two suitcases every person eight suitcases I told the person listen I weight everything if you average everything they're all in the right weight but if you're looking at it this one is 58 and this one is 42 4 45 minutes switched here put here move from here move to there an hour and a half in security got stuck in security and sure enough I missed the flight okay Hashem Hashem you know closes doors in your face to see a reaction things are going to work out exactly how they're supposed to work out but AEM loves to slam a door in your face and to see how upset you get and then once you get so upset and you yell at everybody and everybody's at fault and poor family everybody gets the the the fire then Hashem with his sense of humor shows you how wrong you were and then he wants to see if you'll apologize to everybody for what you said and say I'm so sorry I'm really apologize for screaming at you all and cursing you I mean it happened to me literally literally a few days ago the keys were here they disappear the whole house is turning the keys upside down we're on our way to a lecture can you imagine the the the screaming and where's the keys and the whole we're turning the whole house upside and everybody you had it you had it I had it I did and everybody's screaming and and of course an hour later we find the keys but in a situation like that be honest with yourself I mean in a situation like this one time with the keys I got so upset I was blaming everybody you took the keys why don't you I I don't like it you take the keys you never I was screaming at everybody and at the end the keys are here I pick up like a piece of paper and it's all in front of me on the table and I screamed at everybody now comes the test if you're going to come to everybody that you scream and say listen I'm so sorry hm likes to test you in many interesting ways that he likes to slam things in your face and to see only your reaction it's going to get solved it's going to happen exactly how it's supposed to happen if you are delayed for whatever reason there's a reason for that and now let's see how much you're going to scream so let me back back up now for what I started telling you we're now traveling my wife me we're all constantly traveling so my wife calls me now literally from the airport and some something as usual my life is like nobody wants to work with me I I I people who last with me about a month some last two months nobody wants to work with me they're like you're too hard to work with recently we hired a designer to do some work work after 3 days she's like I I can something the the doesn't like you so much nothing works computer crashes nothing opens it's I'm like okay well welcome to my life I'm like going from like one Miracle to another miracle likes proving to my life that everything is a miracle I told you doors close everywhere flights Miss nothing works so again with my wife another story so she called me from there Airport and she was very you know nervous and why am I telling you that because it's very easy when somebody's nervous or they're in a very uptight situation or they're you know in the on the curve in the airport she was so she was Raising her voice and screaming now what does a normal husband do scream back relax shut up already I'm here to help right but what good would he do now that she's upset that I will scream get her even more hyped up so the right way of dealing with it I saw she's not in a good place she's traveling with little kids suitcases I'm sure she's sweating from heat and many other things I'm sure each and every one of you can relate you want to jump out of your skin she needs me now to to put some more pressure so right away my tone goes down don't worry everything's okay we'll take care of everything so I you know deescalate things that's what Hashem wants you to do in all situations but internally when s things go on in my life in that respect then the the kadh wants you is putting you under a magnifying glass at this moment and it's all about how you're going to react like I told you whether it's the keys or whatever you're going to find the keys and actually the better the sooner you behave the right way then the this little task this little test will disappear and later on you have to see how how you behaved and how do you how did you look so every part here is a test from Hashem to to bother you to see how you behave so when I'm dealing with different H chap es like I told you I divided into three groups group number one is that you get what you give and why did I tell you the story with my wife because I calmed down I I could easily get upset why are you blaming me I didn't do anything you know it was like a little little argument again it's not about saying anything bad about my wife I want to give you an a live example that happened 3 hours ago so cuz it happens with any individual couples wife husband because so I could easily raise my voice or be defensive I knew it wouldn't get me anything the second that I lowered my voice and became helpful not defensive then I got the exact same reaction back this is thought by the most smartest man in the in history King Solomon in the book of mishle when he says Kam which means that you're looking into the water there's a reflection in our days let's call it a mirror whatever you're going to do whatever you're going to reflect on the mirror it's going to reflect right back at you if you smile at the guy the the mirror he's going to smile at you believe it or not so that's the that's the concept now so going back to the categories why why we going all these through all these challenges the first one is your own behavior what you going to put out there you're going to get right back unfortunately sometimes there's a delay you do something the reaction Comes A year later and you don't understand why right why right now I'm dealing with some challenge you don't put it together that a year back you did something now in many of the cases that you're going through a challenge that's hashem's way of writing on the wall what you did wrong and where he wants you to change so he will direct you to what you did wrong and sometimes by the way I gave you example of gossiping I gave you example of lying most people lie you have to be honest with yourself I can tell you that the secret to all success is to be honest in anything practice that you'll see your life will change completely cuz the second that you distort what you say doesn't matter if the person knows or doesn't know it doesn't matter it's it's the energy that you bring to yourself if you need to take one thing out of tonight I told you smart people you come to a lecture you take something out of the lecture we're recording the lecture not because people couldn't make it or I want to put it online it's for you to watch it again and listen again and you'll see that when you watch it for the fifth time oh I didn't I don't remember I don't remember him saying that so that's why we recorded so you can go and review but whatever just remember what whatever you put out there is going to come right back at you and usually it's going to be in ways that Hashem is showing you what you need to fix Hashem is going to show you where you did wrong and how to fix it and again a lot of people in their mind is they're stuck on the MIT that categorized us as Jews and most people not necessarily like doing it whether it's observing Shabbat strict Kosher diet and many other things what I'm telling right now it has nothing to do right now with with we'll call it the faith of Judaism I don't want to say religion because Judaism is not a religion Torah is not a religion religion is a man-made thing and the Torah has nothing to do with religion if you say I'm a religious in the I'm not a religious I'm religious I am a Torah observant Jew at least I try to be observant so it doesn't say anywhere in any source that the Torah or Judaism is religion we're not a religion this is a way of life the Torah is the way of life that the creator of the world gave us human beings that's it applies to all human beings with different rules and regulations to different people that's it but many of the things that we're dealing with is in the level that it's it's not Shabbat kosher and stuff like that it's like I told you it's lying cheating slandering gossiping another big thing that a lot of people don't even notice that they fail a lot is saying vows you know when you say something if you promise something I'll come and pick you up at 4 I'll help you move your your closet whatever that's it you said a vow now you don't come you broke a vow which means that when you say that you sell the person I'll do my best I will try if you saying I'm going to be there that's it you're there not being there you broke a vow the severity spiritually is Big so when we're failing in all these little things and especially when it comes between me and another person then Hashem is going to throw it straight into our face as a challenge in my life to make me realize what I did wrong so I can I can fix it this is category number one why we dealing with a lot of challenges category number two is as simple as hem constantly wants to test your reactions that's it it says in the torem wants to test you and he's not testing you if you're going to go right or if you turn left that's where a lot of people don't understand because people say ohem is testing me and now I'll there's a opportunity to do a sin and the test is if I do the sin or if I don't do the sin okay okay that's that it yeah it will fall under the category of test and that's sometimes the test that Hashem does but Hashem is much more sophisticated than you think Hashem will manipulate the situation that you sin to see how you react if you get upset or if you don't get upset if you get affected in a negative way or if it causes you to get yourself together repent do chuva and better yourself how do you how you you react soem is constantly going to poke you with all sorts of challenges only to see a reaction and when you pass this test cuz your reaction was right then you go one level up and then it will come another test and another test but Hashem constantly wants to see your reactions if you lose your temper if you don't react and you calm yourself down or you see a situation and how do you judge the situation that's another thing by the way that most people fail in every day and that's how you judge people the M says always judge a person favorably you see a situation don't come to conclusion so quick because you don't know all the details you don't know what the person is going through or how you would react in that situation but unfortunately our our our nature is to be very judgmental to look at a situation and to pass judgment before we know anything I can tell you already that that's another thing that Hashem doesn't like so all these things Hashem wants to see how you react if you are need to work on your on your part that you're judgmental then Hashem is going to give you all these challenges if you need to refine yourself where it comes to you quick to anger then hasm is going to give you the chance challenges that you get angry because if we want to go now back to what we started saying about the greatness of the day now I can say it's a day right where's it where's the clock now I see that that's it stars go okay 9:00 now we're in hey hey the main student of the Aral
