How I do this?
He always tells me that I know his
mother longer than a lot of people. She
used to be my customer at the store.
And I can tell you it was election day,
last election day, I actually saw
Eric taking his mother wheelchair
to take his mother to the election
booth. This is This is so special a
person he is. You know, maybe he didn't
get a Didn't get a nurse. Didn't get a
doctor. He went himself to take his
mother. Listen, I know he's very close
to his mother. He's there almost every
day. I know he took some time away from
it today. Usually he goes to his mother.
No longer said, I'll tell you I was I
was 2 weeks ago in Belgium with a
largest laser in the biggest diamond in
the world.
And now he asked me a question, "Are you
still doing your things?"
I said, "Yes." He mentioned it. "I would
like to give you a blessing for Eric
Gonzalez. Who is that person?"
A person of good Jewish faith in the
community. Tries to help out. Tries to
make amends. I want to give him a
blessing. He's trying a lot of good
things which we like to mention right
right now. She's giving an opportunity
to serve him. She do it without a
headache.
He said, "Tell him
keep doing it that way. He will be and
he will be successful."
Same time, I gave a piece of paper
with David's name, his wife, all his
children. One mistake he didn't give me
is his father's name and he didn't give
me the mother's names. I called him
there.
He asked, "Who is this person?" David is
the right hand man. He could see
attorney.
He's a good man. He would stop. He just
said these words to tell me. "If you
give me his name or you must give me a
blessing."
So, you know, good blessing for whatever
he said. I wish you luck him and his
family. I remember these words. I was
shocked when he told it to me. It's a
good blessing. At the moment I consider
myself
among the friends I've known
everyone in this room a long time. Um
you know, my work as district attorney
is work that means a lot to me
because
public safety
is everything. If we're not safe
um we're not free.
We're not free to live our lives
in meaningful ways. You're not free uh
for your family to
do the things that they need to do.
You're not free to worship the way you
want to worship.
Public safety is everything. And
fairness is everything. You know,
whether it be from
in the Torah in the Bible, the concept
of justice in is so
critical to
mankind.
Um and you know, in this room
when something happens and all of you're
leaders and I'm grateful for you to come
out to say hello to me today, to talk
about concerns you may need to
Um but when
things happen
to people in your community
I see the pain
that each and every person in this room
feels about it so personal.
And because I care about the people in
this room so much, your pain comes on to
me. I feel it personally. I feel when
there's something that's happening um
that's unjust and hurtful um then it
hurts me. It It makes me concerned. And
I think that is very different um than
maybe what you've had, you know, in this
community before with your your your
elected leaders.
I know I want to host I want to thank
>> host Moses. Not only he's available for
today, but every day.
It [cough] means a lot. [clears throat]
I just want to say that the DA
fortunately allowed that you were many
other DAs in the state.
But [clears throat]
this is the DA. Not only you kept his
promises when you ran for office, every
promise was kept.
He announced the open door policies
especially before the holiday. Made sure
we come in, discuss with the DAs, with
the chiefs.
And it's not about you. It's not about
me. It's about us. It's about the
community. We treat everyone equally,
rightfully, and justly. So, thank you,
DA. And thank you, David, for being
always available, a great friend to the
community. I want to conclude. It says
in the in the Talmud, which we all have
rabbis over here.
It says you save one life is like saving
the world. You're saving many lives.
You give a chance to other people a
second chance. Thank you for your great
work every day. Thank you.
