Q&A Mentors Mission - The Yeshiva System, Shidduchim & Truth (Harav Yitzchak Breitowitz)
- Being from LA, a liberal center of America, homosexuality and the like is in the air prominently. What is the Rav think/Jewish perspective about the acceptance and approach to this happening in our circles? - There are membership structures in shuls. What would the Rav do about accepting a gay couple to the membership? - Yeshivos 100 years ago were set up for the elite. Today is a totally different world where everyone goes, not just a small group. What does the Rav think about the system today? Should we change the limud? In terms of ideal observance, there is a lot of pressure on how to act/dress, etc. We don’t accept individuals. Should this change? Why can’t we have some yeshivas be more elite and some more broad ranged? How do we navigate communicating with gedolim about this or otherwise? What is guidance for people 26 or the like who are not holding at a particularly high level but looking into shidduchim? As a parent, how do we know when our Baal Teshuva child is stable? How would I encourage my family member who intermarried to be honest with himself in his Torah and Derech and a possible spousal conversion? If a family member (who had a bad experience in Jewish school) is dating a non -Jew, how do we handle that? What makes Judaism truer than other religions that claim to be the true faith? How did the yeshiva world react to the Covid pandemic?
