[Music] [Applause] foreign [Music] everyone and welcome to the project inspired convention the moza shabas program of the project inspired convention my name is jesse friedman i'm the executive director of project inspire and it is my honor and pleasure to take you through this amazing program that we have planned for you tonight yes on a normal year it's around this time when we'll sit together 1500 people crammed in the beautiful hotels of the tri-state area and we'll reminisce about our experience over shabbos we'll talk about the amazing speakers we'll talk about the amazing singing about the amazing davening we'll talk about the amazing people that we've met which make up the amazing project inspire convention it's tonight that i'll usually stand in front of you and tell you about all the complaints that people have about the project inspire convention and what's the number one complaint about the project inspire convention the number one complaint is there's too much food so look at that we listen to you this year no food at the project inspired convention and to be honest with you we had a decision to make we've all been used to that feel of being at the project inspired convention or a body and soul retreat where everyone jews of all backgrounds come together and experience an amazing shabbos together and we were faced with a decision should we skip it this year should we just wait until the covent era passes and we're able to get together in hotels together for shabbos and put our arms around each other and experience shabbat together we had that decision to make and the fact that i'm standing in front of you well you kind of know what which way we went with that decision but i want to tell you why we went with that decision the answer is all of you all of you that are watching this all of you that have attended project inspire conventions body and soul retreats and the hundreds of other project inspired programs and let me tell you why we had just finished the project inspire convention of last year a few weeks after and all of a sudden covet hit us like a ton of bricks and in project inspire we rely so much as you know on the interaction of jews of all backgrounds of inspiring each other no pun intended and we were faced with a decision how do we bring inspiration to the covet era we didn't have to think too long because you had the answer it was all of you that pushed us project inspire to pivot to the amazing shabbat show hosted by charlie hirari that tens of thousands of people come onto first on friday afternoon and then of course on thursday night you've come to love it you've come to compete in the kahoot games that was you and then you wanted more and we brought you mind flex which was daily classes on topics ranging from parenting to judaism 101 to ask the rabbis and the list goes on amazing guests from all over on our mind flex series but you wanted more and we created a deep dive which was small learning groups online where sv sittinger and charlie hirari have joined us to give an introduction and then you broke up into rooms to learn more and then you still wanted more and we began one-on-one learning rooms breakout rooms online and then you still wanted more and we had holla bakes and we had taste of shabbat and the pro the list of programs goes on and on and really that was because of you because you wanted more you wanted to use the time to be inspired and to inspire so many more and so we stand here at the matsushabus program of the project inspired convention for you you're joining us and we have put together a spectacular program the speakers presenters performers that you've come to love and know and many who you haven't yet met so buckle up because we're in for an amazing experience tonight as we relive some of the highlights of project inspire conventions and bring you brand new ones as well so thank you for joining us i know you have other things to do on look back on the last year since the last project inspired convention since the covet era began our hearts go out to the families who had suffered losses or people who have not yet recovered or people who have not yet fully recovered from covet and we dive and we pray as an organization together with all of you that all those families be comforted and see a speedy recovery recovery very very project inspire programs before you know that every summer we put out a documentary film on tish above about heroes and the jewish people and this past year was no different we put out a spectacular film entitled stop at nothing because it was about two individuals rabbi ronnie greenwald and rabbi freifeld who would stop at nothing either physically to save jews or spiritually to help jews in any way they can one of the pieces in the interviews in that film was about the rescue of natan sharansky soviet refuse nick you've all heard of natanzharansky but what you might not have known was the involvement of ruby ronnie greenwald in the rescue of natan sharansky so we had the honor to interview nathan sharansky about rabbi ronnie greenwald's involvement so here is but a small clip of stop at nothing that was produced tish above 2020. here it is we were at an ou convention in eritrea lion and one night we got a call from this member of the knesset flotto cheron who was a very controversial figure and he said maybe you can help get sharansky that's francie was a big hot item then who wouldn't want to help sharansky i was a refusenik what means i was refused uh to be given to be granted the visa and as many jewish refusents lost my job was under permanent interrogations by kgb uh in the middle of the struggle i met my future wife i retired then natalia and we had a cooper in our apartment and next day she left for israel and we hoped that we will meet in few months as a result of our struggle we met 12 years later [Music] i was arrested and accused in high tourism for my zionist security i came to israel here we organized like headquarters we decided every jew in the world has to know what's going on with the brothers and sisters in in russia we start to travel from country to country from synagogue to synagogue hilar to killa and i succeeded to come to sienat and to congress of the united states one of these congressmen was ben gilman and when i arrived to his office there was other man and he introduced him like robbie greenwald and the man was nice warm and i understand immediately this guy know how to do things then i spent time with his family in monsi and very warm and i spent their shabbat and then we tried to talk about this swap i first met rabbi ronnie greenwald when i was an attorney at the department of state and the department was approached by congressman ben gilman robbie greenwald and gilman were particularly interested in the release of dissidents but jews in particular because they were persecuted at alarming rates syransky had been at the top of our list of persons we wanted out of the soviet union for a very long period of time he was an extraordinarily courageous man standing up for human rights ronnie was just this wonderful character in the best sense of the word he was open he was clearly very smart he tried he he traveled a lot and he talked to people and who knows what else he do and he had through an israeli member of the knesset named flatoshiron contacted wolfgang fogle a lawyer in east berlin which led to prisoner exchanges that ultimately led to the release of anatoly or nathan sharansky [Music] when i came to congress and senate and i met practically with all of the congressman ben gilman was one of them and when i came then his office was uh running greenwood and i said oh you're the irony that they held from my vitality and that's how you met i remember him permanently full of energy full of initiative and full of desire to help i think his energy optimism all the time to be alert to hear the needs of the jewish people what's going on i think it's a very important legacy what an individual of a ronnie greenwald indeed was of course you can watch the entire september we celebrated 15 years of project inspire we did so by creating a virtual dinner yes a virtual dinner again no carving stations but a virtual dinner to honor none other than the family director of project inspire rabbi haim sampson and his wife jochebed what was amazing about that dinner was how many people from around the world sent in good wishes and mazel tov wishes to rabbi sampson and his wife on the honoree one of those was rabbi lord jonathan sachs of blessed memory how could we know that that was one of his last messages that he would send as shortly after rabbi sax passed away so i want to play for you the message that he sent to robbie sampson and to project inspire and to all of you about how important it is to inspire jews and continue on project inspires mission ladies and gentlemen rabbi jonathan sacks of blessed memory to robert i am samson and all involved in project inspire i really want to congratulate you on all you've done and all you will continue to do and in particular by choosing the specific dimensions that you've chosen to work in because they are actually the most important ones of all firstly grow i'm just interested in that concept as long as it doesn't apply to wastelines you know that there were certain young geniuses who were totally and absolutely brilliant and achieved greatness very young but never did much after that what was the difference between the ones who as it were fizzled out early and the ones who kept growing and achieving greatness even at an advanced age and the short answer was did they keep learning so rule one learn number two rule number two is grow that i think it's terribly important in here my role model is moshe albana you know when you're 119 years and 11 months old you have spent most of your life leading the israelites to the brink of the promised land and you know you are not going to cross the jordan and be there with them what do you do do you retire actually what most rebecca did was rather unexpected he did a sort of uh he did a took on a a new job he um took on a new career for the last month of his life he became a teacher and his lessons are in the book that we call safety [Music] and it turns out that that last month of his life was far and away the most important because that is how we remember him moshe rabbani we don't remember him as moses the law giver moses the liberator moses the prophet moses the miracle worker we remember him as mushroom and that was his willingness to set himself a new challenge at the very end of his life do something that he'd never really done before never done in a sustained and consistent way and that tells me that those people who grow defeat the principle of entropy which says all systems lose energy over time the terrorist says moshe rebel that at the end of his life his natural energy unabated he had no entropy whatsoever why because every single day of his life he was growing finally cher you know people don't often enough do the very simple sum that when it comes to material goods like wealth or power the more i share the less i have if i have a thousand pounds and share it with nine other people i only have one tenth of what i began with if i have total power and i share that with nine people i only have one tenth of the power i had to begin with but if i have a certain amount of knowledge and share that with nine other people or a certain amount of influence and share that with nine other people then i don't have less i actually have more because spiritual goods work not by division but by multiplication the more we share the more we have therefore when it comes to judaism any element you care to think about the more we share with others the more we will have the more we share our learning with others the more we share our table with others through the more we share our our um now visiting the sick and and the lonely and the isolated we will find the more we have so learn grow and share and may project inspire inspire you to inspire others wow what a message what a man what a void has left us as a jewish people it's now my honor to introduce to you the family director of project inspire abachaim sampson to give us an inspirational moment about why we're all here tonight and where we're headed both as an organization and a nation rabbi sampson thanks yossi and thanks to all of you for joining us at this international online project inspire convention and we're so happy that you've been able to share and enjoy benefit from the inspiration that we've shared with you and community over the course of the year you know our motto is inspire yourself to inspire others or inspire yourself by inspiring others we're all about inspiration but how do we stay inspired in these difficult times so the great prophet have a cook in the talmud says that of all the mitzvahs can be pinned down onto one principle sadiq sadiq lives through his emunah through his belief in god what does that mean that means if we're connected to the fact that there's a being who's an infinite being who loves us with an infinite love with an unconditional love just like a father or a parent loves his or her children then we'll have all the blessings and all the inspiration of the torah you know in chabas we say we sing a song internal satisfaction menuha a feeling of internal goodness and joy comes on shabbos why because shabbos is a day of connecting to god when you when you're connected to god when you're connected to hashem you feel a sense of inner sense of manoeuvre of of of serenity of joy it's like being in the eye of the storm the storm could be raging all around you but if you're in the eye of the storm it's calm and how do we have that feeling when we're connected to the infinite being and we know that he loves us with an infinite love you can have that calmness that joy that inspiration now the rabbis of the talmud tell us further that three things are acquainted with each other israel the arises of the could the jewish people and the torah and god are one so we understood a little bit about hashem about god but we have to understand that if we connect to the torah as well that we understand that the torah is a is a is a guidebook for life the almighty's instruction manual on how to get the most pleasure out of life wow that can keep you inspired when you understand that in the torah is all ha ha digging it digging it everything is in it how to be happy how to have relationships how to have meaning how to have any to be a good parent how to to have a wonderful it's all in there from the creator of the universe to us an incredible gift that's the torah and the israel the jewish people we have to know who we are we're a people that are a priestly nation a holy people this is who we are we we made a covenant with god at mount sinai to bring morality and spiritual spirituality into the world that's who we are but it's a we come and we change the world as a people it's an us judaism isn't just about me it's about understanding as a people we're one nation we're cells in the body of the jewish people and that we're one and that we love each other and because we're all one you are me i am you i'll take pleasure in your successes and in your and i'll take pain in your pain and we're told that arctus having unity is where all the blessing comes the rabbis tell us that in the tower of babel when they came and they fought against the the world came and and made war against god they weren't killed why because they had loved each other whereas in the times of the flood where they didn't do such terrible things but they didn't love each other they didn't care about each other they stole from each other and therefore god wiped them out and we're told that in times of king ahab ahav that he was a thoroughly evil king he brought idol worship to the jewish people but he was successful in his battles why because in his generation people loved each other whereas in the generation of david king david and king saul who were great righteous kings ah there was infighting there was lush and horror they didn't win their walls they lost their battles and so for us if we understand that we are one that if you hurt me and i hurt you back the jerusalem talmud tells me it's like if i one hand hurts the other hand the other hand hurts the other hand back i'm hurting myself if i hurt you i'm hurt like hurting myself we have to understand that we're one the verse in bahu khosai tells us when speaking about the blessings the jewish people will have when they keep the torah tells us five people will chase an enemy of a hundred and a hundred will chase an enemy of ten thousand and the great commentator rash he says that doesn't add up if five chase a hundred a hundred should chase two thousand why is that why is a hundred taking ten thousand because the more actors the more unity we have as a people the more hashem is with us love your neighbor as yourself hashem when we love each other we have the power of the almighty with us so my friends i'm so glad to share the project inspire convention with you let's gain that inspiration let's connect to the almighty and his infinite love let's love the torah and appreciate what we have and let's love each other and if we have that we'll have all the an inspiration for ourselves and please god for the whole of the jewish people enjoy the convention thank you so much thank you so much rabbi sampson thank you for that message thank you for all that you do thank you for being my mentor and my inspiration and continue admiring to inspire the jewish people ladies and gentlemen one of the ways that we engaged people over this covert time is that we found people had a little bit more time on their hands they were home a little bit more and so we made a massive effort as an organization to sign up one-on-one learning partners we all know that learning with a partner is one of the most effective ways of being able to grow in our judaism both from what we call the mentor side or the student side or the teacher student side everybody gains just the same but we found that so many people have taken their judaism to another level by virtue of the fact that they were learning with a study partner and so i had the opportunity to interview just a few of them a few of the matches who have made significant strides during this coven era specifically boys who from secular jewish backgrounds decided to spend some time learning in yeshiva and even in yeshiva in israel and so i had the opportunity to interview kurt a young gentleman who's learning now in mahone in jerusalem you will notice it from the jerusalem background as well as with rabbi shields my shield is from maryland i forget we're in maryland already but you'll find out what a story but the story is not just about them it's how important learning learning torah is learning torah with a partner is take a look at the amazing strides these two have made together we have with us today kurt kurt is actually in jerusalem israel if i'm correct and we have her moisture shields is with us from maryland somewhere in maryland is that right correct okay kurt why don't you tell us where are you from what your background the judaism is just give us an idea of where you came from yeah absolutely um so i'm from a place called west hartford connecticut uh actually a very very jewish town i think we have like close to 40 000 jews in the sort of surrounding area um but it's almost like entirely reformed conservative um so i grew up and all my friends were jewish um we ate bagels we had locks you know uh but we never really did anything sort of meaningful so um i'd go to the day school on sunday or the sunday school and then uh that was pretty much the extent of my jewish wearing as a kid um and i never really thought there was anything more to it i thought it was more just like oh this is tradition i do this because my parents make me and at the end of it my dad picks me up and we go to bagels so worth it for me um but uh i went to college and then after college i got involved in ish a little backwards for most people but um i ended up going on an ace trip to israel and that was the first time i ever spoke to somebody who wore kipa outside of shul and uh it really sort of opened my eyes to like the world of judaism and i began to see it more of the depth to it as opposed to just the superficial i'm doing this because my parents did it because their parents did it because their parents did it um but uh when i started learning i really had no background i i think as a kid it was sort of like the thing in one year out the other um i was like i'm never gonna use this again so uh wasn't really something i was able to retain so i had to really start from scratch like i didn't know the oil phase i couldn't tell you what half the hugging were about so it was it was a really long process and after my initial trip with ace it was it was sort of more of a process in itself and deciding uh is this the right path for me i ended up going back the following year after that initial uh ace trip and i spent six six or seven weeks at uh ishitor in jerusalem and um then i sort of made the decision okay i want to do this this is for me um i really like this but i was going back to a place where um one i didn't really know who like where to go to shul i didn't know anybody who knew anything i basically was going back to um a wasteland at least the way i looked at it um and that was when i got uh a i think was an email from danielle saying hey would you like to learn with a harusa on the phone um and i was like yes my prayers are answered finally i have somebody i can ask my questions to and they can sort of help me guide me in this process so i ended up getting set up with uh rabbi shields and i think this is about two and a half years ago now now with that being said kurt there are people that are watching this that are a little bit on the fence about you know agreeing to learn with a study partner signing up is it really for me people might say to themselves you know we live in the era you know 2021 you can google anything you want anyway what would you tell those people in terms of in terms of where you were and what you've gained from this right um so uh for me um i sort of at the time i think i i sort of knew what i wanted um but even still like with that said i've had a lot of issues sort of come up and they're not the issues that you can always just google sometimes you need like the the personal touch to them so uh being in contact with robert shields has like allowed me to sort of like investigate um like uh things that were sort of outside the realm of what you can find on the internet and uh more applicable to the circumstances i was going through um but like more importantly with that it just sort of helped us create this connection um i mean we've even continued learning now that i'm like learning full-time and uh it's just such an amazing thing it's not it's not such a huge time commitment and uh i mean as busy as i was in school ever i always made sure that we had the time and of course rabbit shields is also very busy is a working family and all that stuff but um yeah i think the uh the connection actually has been the most valuable part rabbi shields what has it done for your own yiddish guide in terms of you know being able to learn with someone kurt you know basically admittingly didn't know out of base sunday school was the extent of it like you know don't you feel like you sort of like really you want me to go on the training wheels bike now like what is it done for you so i i don't see it as trading wheels because he's thank god a very good thinker and he and he challenges not in ever an undermined way but but challenges me to think things over when he asks questions and i realized that how much richer my own judaism is when we bring in other perspectives other than my you know nary israel very nice background that i was very blessed to have but hearing people had a very different background and being able to appreciate what what their perspective is for sure enriches not only my yiddish not only our family but honestly when i'm with my students who all grow up they're all coming from orthodox homes that are at yeshiva greater washington but but now they're being enriched because a piece of me is invigorated each week when we when we learn together so so there's a lot of benefit that happens when when we learn with people who have less background kurt um i i know for you the journey between the trip to h the coming back and then the going age for a little bit and then coming back i understand you also attended project inspire events as well what did those mean to you in the process of your journey yeah um i went to a shabbaton in new jersey um and it was it was uh but one of the most meaningful shabbos i've actually ever had um i'd sort of i'd been a little while living my town and i'm sort of doing shabbos with the community there but it wasn't like the same sort of feel that i got when i had been doing shabbos in israel when i was at aish i've been with a chabad community and they've been amazing um but uh it coming coming to that um to that event it was just it was so inspirational there was like such amazing speech speakers i met so many amazing people a bunch of other people that were sort of in similar situations to myself um and i was able to like walk away and i felt like wow i'm refreshed i'm recharged i want to go learn some more um yeah i was i i still remember every detail of that shabbos wow we want to wish you kurt continued success in your learning and your growth in judaism thank you rabbi shields for spending the time you know and in your family life being able to continue to inspire kurt uh and ladies and destroy humanity in this piece he learned that from the from the durham slugger which is the door of nayach that they wanted to fight spoke whatever that means and god instead of killing them instead of destroying them just separated them making different languages and that caused that they were not unified anymore but he didn't kill them because they were unified before we find even better than that you find by ahab that he was a naivete and he really and he really was trying to push the the bow and everything and yet he was very successful in all the battles and as far as financially whatever they needed and very successful in everything they did and then they were again it was because they did did not speak any lush in his time what do you mean by los angeles no that means i know not only i don't talk bad about anybody i don't even talk good about somebody because when i talk good somebody else is going to come along and they'll say well that's what you think but i know what i know about them and they're going to have the bed come out we don't talk about people and that case was that he he saved evaji he was his top servant save the hundred navy by hiding them in a cave to hide people in a cave doesn't save them you have to feed them you have to give them to drink and that's what he used to do daily and to learn daily and not get caught there's a pretty big big thing so obviously in the midnight late at night and what you'll have if you were talking questions about people one guy will say you know last week when i came home from a party i'd show you about your carrying big packages and i was wondering we was going and the other guy would say oh yeah two weeks ago i also saw it i wonder where it was going and everybody's gonna think about the same thing and by that time somebody's uh tell the queen and they'll tell you about you that is that is without talking about people the idea that god loves in people because the world he created was that if we happen to have peace among each among ourselves then we can always create greater people even though we don't all agree we're all not the same religious and that same thing but we don't know what our children will be each one will try to do better and better to make this a more unified and better universe that's what's radix project inspire is all about he let him know hope they'll be successful i pray they'll be successful i bless them they'll be successful it'll be a bs girl to make me happy i want to tell you about a virus no no no no not that virus a virus for good i want to tell you about something that's been spreading for thousands of years something so contagious that it infects everyone in its path but this contagion isn't the problem it doesn't shut down the world rather it illuminates it the good virus i'm referring to is your jewish identity and the host that is spreading your jewish identity throughout the world is project inspired project inspire instills in us all the responsibility to unify the jewish people by sharing the beauty and wisdom of our common heritage with our fellow jews by empowering each one of us as a leader project inspire is unique in that it's about inspiring you to inspire the world this has created a movement which has the ability to reach so many more it's viral to achieve its vision project inspire provides thousands with inspiration and opportunities for shared experiences that bring jews of all backgrounds together as a community to grow learn and share with one another to make this viral we need super spreaders like know in judaism has to be shared with so many jews who know less than you and we believe in project inspire that many religious jews come in contact with jews of all backgrounds that know far less than them in their daily lives at work in the shopping mall in a grocery store we know this message to be true from all the success stories that we've had over the last 15 years but for the convention we decided to do something a little different this was two years ago you might remember this as 2019 project inspired convention we put this message to the test will religious jews get project inspire's message and when they encounter opportunities just in a grocery store will they take advantage of it ladies and gentlemen this was one of my favorite moments in the history of project inspire conventions we called it the pomegranate film some of you might remember that we filmed in the pomegranate grocery store in brooklyn new york it was very simple we got shim and sam two actors to pose in fact they are less affiliated jewish people in the in the supermarket they walked around and they engaged people whose wives sent them shopping yes to be set up for the purpose of this film i had the opportunity to be there in the truck in the parking lot as well as sneak my way into the supermarket at different times i know as you're watching this you're already smiling because you were at the convention and you remember that so as we take a little sneak peek not only for the sake of humor because seeing ourselves in a humorous way is a way to change and as a way to learn as a way to educate others that we know but not only for the humor aspect of it but to be able to see how in real life and depict situations which probably come our way every day ladies and gentlemen this is the first film of the pomegranate film in pomegranate live on super bowl sunday as many of our participants roamed around shopping for fruits and vegetables as you'll see they encountered shim and sam ladies and gentlemen the pomegranate film of convention 2019 [Music] baseball cap [Music] oh [Music] hi you look jewish you mind if i ask you a quick question please buy the oranges guys and engage them hey bud this is french right because it says parve on it powerful exactly power means it's not it's not meat it's not dairy so why did you come to the store my friend said i should come here to shop for some super bowl party they said i can find kosher here i just want to know how to identify it the whole store scholarship anything that goes from the ground whether it's food to a vegetable is kosher oh okay i like your accent are you from eastern europe yes i'm russian myself so a friend of mine told me that i needed to be blessed is there some sort of blessing that blessing on the food as well i make the blessing yeah i will be honest with you you want to know the truth right we don't mix meat the milk okay so i gotta call my family now and tell them no chicken parmesan yes that's on shabbos morning named rama yitzhak fanger rabbi yitzhak fanger is a well-known educator in israel hid abroad he's on television he's on radio and he gives classes on all different topics in judaism a fabulous lecture but some of you who had even heard of him did not know the amazing life story of rabbits-luck fangir in a title of his talk which we're entitling from israel to india and back rabbi yitzhak fangir takes us on a roller coaster ride of being a reiki specialist what's reiki stay tuned back to israel to becoming one of israel's most premier lecturers and educators buckle up this is a please help me have i have no sense of taste i have no sense of taste the doctor say don't have any sense of taste i can help you assistant drone number 24 small battle three drops on his tongue the assistant is opening the number 24 drawer small button three drops on his tongue and this guy doctor this is fuel doctor say yeah your sense of face came back please pay me fifty dollars fifty shekels secular family here in israel um just i'll tell you a story a little story that you understand how far i was from judaism my second my family is very secular i was raised in israel but uh i wasn't in a but nested in the shul only two times in my life when i was thirteen bar mitzvah and the second time when i came back from the far east i will tell you why and i came back to far east i i was like 25 years old i decided to go to the shul it was friday three o'clock in the afternoon i was raised in herzeglia you know herself so i came to the show very far away from my home because in israel it's not something cool whoa fangir you wearing this shoe yeah we love you so i went to a very fire place so nobody will recognize me i can't do the shoes it was friday three o'clock in the afternoon and i'm knocking i'm knocking on the door nobody's opening the door i'm opening to myself and i'm getting myself inside i saw an old person preparing the sephora to after the ring tomorrow so i'm coming to him hi this is a show here this is of course what do you think is the beach here because it came with a bathing suit so he said of course this is true here what do you want i said okay i came here let's start what you what are you doing here say we are dumping here we're learning torah but you came early on three o'clock in the afternoon there's nothing to do now please go come back after four can i find the this religious person in the synagogue and then the shoal okay this is the reservation of the religious people so i went there i of course doesn't matter how i get there i parked the car very far and i came 10 30. it was in the middle of the kriyata torah you have to imagine it 80 people in the middle of the whoa okay and i'm coming into the show they put me like a white yarmulke and white kippah you know i was very shining and these guys saw me hi how are you coming steve come near to the cephalois to me you know there is light from the letters i came to see where the lights here i don't see any lights okay then you know i waited between the people that put my hands in my pocket put out the 20 shekels and set them high every this is the money from yesterday where they put it he's an old person okay he doesn't use to things like that in the shoe he shouted okay i looked back who's mug says okay i thought maybe it's a dog or something but when he shouted you have to understand all the people in this school you know staring at me waving with 20 shekel guild they started shouting me leave it don't touch it i'm not touching anybody okay i didn't understand there is something in my hand okay it's a paper paper okay it's just a paper one of the people that grabbed my hand leave it leave my hand then let's go outside you know so for me it was a shock it's a miracle i i stayed reduced after that but this is almost the end of the story my story began in the army here in israel when you are 18 you have to go to the army and i went to the tanks i became a commander of a tank i was a year and a half from my beginning of the in the army and my best friend my best friend he's in with me in the tank in the tank you have you have you have you have four people commander and three soldiers and he's one of my soldiers i i i begged to go come back to my platoon to be with him because when i'm a commander i can choose whatever you i want so i asked please bring him back because we was raised together he's my neighbor i was from the kindergarten with him so they agreed and i came back to my person and we served in lebanon we said in lebanon maybe you don't know about every day there is a war it's not only you know lebanon where gaza each day each night there is a war on the border so the tanks are sitting on the on the border and we are looking inside lebanon to to see if there is terrorists that want to come into israel it was four o'clock in the morning it's the hezbollah started to do tunnels for us we didn't know that at the beginning then they did one tunnel and they popped up inside our tent inside our camp it was five soldiers five terrorists of the description and we're sitting in the tank and we are laughing and we are happy and you know life is good life is good everything everything is in order and i'm sitting with him above the tongue the the commander and my soldier we were sitting above the tank our head is above the tank and at 4 00 in the morning 4 30 the hezbollah started shooting us bullets are flying next to your ear like that and one of the bullets hit my friend the bullet hit his his head he fell on me you know i'm grabbing him and for me you have to say it's a moment that it's a war okay you have to give commands you are the commander they are showing me in the in the air he commanded what to do what to do i have to fight to shoot back maybe to to go back to to run away or whatever what might what i to go to to call to get back up i didn't know what to do and my friends my hand in my hand and for me the world stopped i looked in his eyes and he in and he looked at mine and his last sentence was fanger live also for me have a life also for me and he died from that moment my life changed okay i took the the tank i ran over all the terrorists i started to shoot all over the place somebody they thought that maybe i was crazy for me i i had to revenge my my my friend that all the five terence died but for me i cannot go back now my life changes i understand that nobody has a life insurance and you know we talked five minutes ago we were laughing we were planning what to do after the army when maybe we got to go abroad whatever and with five minutes everything was finished for me it was very hard i came back home and my mother saw me and she said to me it's sick this is my name my name then and it's sick it's like she said to me you were grown up 20 years in five minutes my life changed i decided to dedicate my life to do something with my life because i have obligation i'm living also from for me and also for him so in a secular world i decided to do a first degree in psychology here in israel i started in psychology it's very nice but i don't want to offend anybody who's learning psychology but it's a lot of talking okay and i wanted to help i wanted to help i so i decided to combine with the psychology and i'm working that today now in psychology so it's not nice i'm saying that but uh i decided to combine with the psychology alternative alternative medicine smith was very practical i can start to work and i started on chinese medicine for years in here in israel after three years a woman that practiced reiki came to israel from upstate new york you know what's reiki is reiki it's it's a healing practice that they believe it's coming from the tibetan buddhism they believe that if you put your hands on a patient energy will flew through your head through your hands to the body of the patient very powerful very helpful over all the world they're using that so the woman came here the teacher came into israel who did reiki reiki has three degrees first degree second degree and the masters okay i'm going to the first to the second degree and then this woman told me fanger you got you got a present from above all the patients that went through you set me this funda fungi guy his hands are working very good so she said okay so she said me i want to invest in you come with me to a trip abroad everything i know i will teach you you will come back to israel after two or three years you'll be number one okay for me it's a very big opportunity i was then 23 years old she's very wealthy trip abroad why not okay so i started to go she's older than me 25 years okay be relaxed so no i can see his face is here okay so it's a career opportunity okay it's a career opportunity so i decided to go with her and we started in europe switzerland france italy then we arrived at the to the state the upstate new york and then i become a reiki master okay i'm making a lot of money it's very nice but i'm a little bit extreme if you know me if i'm doing something i have to do it all the way if i'm going to be a reiki master i want to be the best reiki master that there is okay the woman told me that my teacher told me i taught you everything i know if you really want to know more you have to go to the forest because the the source of the reiki is from the buddha tibetan buddhism so go to tibet or to india or to japan and learn more in depth the other icky things so japan is very expensive and tibet was a little bit dangerous then so i found myself going to india during the monastery of the dalai lama becoming a buddhist monk for a year and a half making meditation all the time and trying to become the best reiki master that i can be after almost a year then the dalai lama called me and said to me finger you know you you were here enough time now you have to go and practice what you have learned you are going to a solid monetary monastery up in rishikesh i was in masala up north in india so you go into rishikesh a very small monastery with 15 people you have two spiritual works the first thing you have to be in silence for half a year don't talk to anybody okay this is the reason i become a speaker okay all my frustration i'm putting it out on you now sorry that you are my victims i need to talk okay so uh half a year you shouldn't talk they believe if you want to be a healer if you want to use your energy you have to absorb your energy not to use it not to waste it if you are talking even just to somebody else or just listen to somebody else you can think you can feel that he's drawing your energy okay or on the on the phone okay so of course personally it's powerful more powerful so being silent for half a year and the second thing practice yoga i was a yoga teacher here in israel so i have to practice yoga to bring my body to a perfection of my impurity to and then i will become the best reiki master there is okay i'm leaving the masala calling my parents and telling them mommy for the next half year there is nobody to talk with my mother is telling me son we love you you can do that okay we trust you go for it and can we are behind you do it okay yeah i'm telling you that because half year after that when i tell them i will tell my maybe more than half a year when i will tell my mother mommy i'm going to yeshiva do you think the reaction would be the same son we love you go for it no and we will see the differences and it won't be hard okay so but in that time i'm not thinking even this in this direction so i'm coming to the monastery very beautiful place it's in the middle of the jungle we have 15 people i'm the only israeli there and it's in the middle of the jungle it's a real jungle not a benchman okay not to offend the ambassador so i'm in the middle there is monkeys and beautiful things okay and i'm starting my silent retreat i don't know if you tried it for the first month it's easy and not easy but you can do that okay the second month it's start to be hard very hard three months a volcano okay but inside it's here here i need to talk so but you know i'm supposed to be very tougher with my with myself okay i was in the army i'm supposed to be very tough so uh finger don't talk okay just don't talk we didn't ask you nothing just don't talk what's the problem okay what's the problem try it three and a half months and one day i felt i cannot anymore i'm dreaming that i'm talking okay it's it's something bad so uh and i'm talking to myself you i think i will forgot how to speak so i was in the monastery there was a river you have to understand it's a real jungle there is no hot water there is a river like 100 meters from the monastery on that river we are drinking we're taking showers there is no grocery shop okay i want coca-cola no you're the hell you have nothing okay what you are planting in the ground this is what you're eating you're like a goat goat okay and be happy what why not what what's bad you know okay so uh i was really into it okay so don't laugh um three and a half months and it's very very hard and i decided one morning i'm opening my mouth okay i'm opening your mouth whatever will get out will go out and you have to it's like a volcano it's like okay let's think what to say now no it's like okay so i went down to the river no no nobody was there only myself and decided to open my mouth and when i opened my mouth you have to it's it's for me it's like aha moment because it's like i don't think what i'm supposed to say just i'm going i'm just letting it out and it starts and i open my mouth and the only things that went out of my mouth wear verses for my huff okay 12 years ago like gun machine with the songs okay then like i'm quiet something happened to you she's only you okay three and a half months not a dog versus my huff my bar mitzvah my memory is not my best part in my head okay i left it to my wife maybe all the women in the world you will get married you will know you said something 10 years ago it's your wife do you remember 10 years ago when we are in there you remember what you told me i wasn't there and you know my man she remembers everything okay be nice to her okay same for me i'm talking from experience okay 25 years of marriage okay it's harder than the army stop not nice you're young be optimistic it's beautiful you know a guy before he's married is not whole now if he's married he's finished everything will be okay you will be different i hope so yeah so uh so my memory is not my best part okay i cannot remember something that for me was not so relevant 12 years ago but because of that i would become balchu of course no so verses went out of my mouth so what you know i calm myself down maybe you miss israel maybe your torah teacher or whatever but don't become both what has to do with it okay this is not the case people can see the best facts but to change it's very hard the best fact but the best proofs it's very hard to change there was a guy who was working in the newest times he was walking on the streets he went to see something that he can write on he saw a person standing in front of an office office building with a cigarette smoking cigarette after a secret secret of the cigarette so the journalist came to him and asked him how much do you smoke a day is it me three bags a day three packs of days since when since i was 16. how old are you now 56. so the journal has taken the calculation calculated and said okay you are smoking three packs a day it's 30 dollars in general times the 365 days a year times 40 years look how much money you're spending on your cigarettes is a team if you weren't smoking you can buy you can buy a building like that the guy with the with the cigarette asked the journalist do you smoke of course not no do you have a building like that he said there no you say you see i'm smoking this is also my building not nice okay he showed you facts okay you're wasting your money okay you're right okay i'm wasting my money okay but it's hard okay it's hard so to become a bad chuba because few verses went out of my mouth of course not i'm continuing with my life i broke my silence i'm supposed to start again half year i won't do that become but after three days i i'm in my room so it's not a room okay it's not wrong it's few blocks on each other but i'm alone all the monks are going to sleep very early because there is no lights so you know sunset they're all going to sleep they are waking up in the morning very very early but i'm wearing night type i love the night it's quiet it's beautiful all the monks are asleep so i'm practicing my meditation at night it was a around 11 11 00 in the night i'm alone and i decided to go to sleep i have candles i closed my candle and i wanted to go to sleep i have a mattress and a sleeping bag as i close my candle i have an odd feeling there is somebody in my room i'm lighting up the candle and start to do a patrol there is nobody there okay but you know if if you're in the army you're supposed to try to develop like a sixth sense to feel that if somebody's watching you and from where it's supposed to save your life so i'm feeling that there is somebody in the room and with me with a candle okay where is he maybe the indian guy okay watching me they are bored but there is nobody there but it's a very strong feeling i cannot go to sleep and i want to go to sleep i'm sleeping sleeping every night it's not a problem for me so i decided change place change luck i will go to sleep outside okay put in one of the candles to see the way out holding with one hand my mattress and the other hand the head of the sleeping bag as i took the head of the sleeping bag i pulled it up the head of the sleeping bag and when i pulled it up a yellow scorpion fell from the head of my sleeping bag and you have to understand if i was supposed to go to sleep like every night that's supposed to put my hand exactly on him to put your head on a yellow scorpion especially there he will bite you and after three hours you can say goodbye to everybody and to join your grandpa in the world to come for the for the first time in my life i had a very but very strong feeling there is somebody up there that protects me i don't know who it is i don't know what's his name if i would put in my calculator uh my computer okay the creator of the world or the almighty i will get no results i i don't believe in that i don't feel that i don't know that but it's a very very powerful feeling that there is somebody with me somebody up there that protects me of course i won't become a bad juva because of that because if you want to protect me why not feel free to do that if you know and it's not asking for protection so you can protect me so i'm not becoming bachelor because of that about two days after that my story finished after two days i ran off candles you have to sense the middle of the jungle so there is no uh transportation there is one in two weeks that are coming from the city with donkeys like pilgrims that we're asking from them to bring us things that we're ordering like toilet paper things that you need and things like that food so there are i ran off candles and i really need you know candles so why all the cans were supposed to come they're supposed to come tomorrow so i have one day left i search in my my bag in one of my pockets in my bag i found one candle but next to the candle there was like uh like a paper when i started my journey with the the teacher in bengal and airport there was a bad place there and the chabada wouldn't feel on people okay they're very nice but i flew in the night so there was nothing so they gave me like a paper with uh the blessing of the date filata out of the way and shmei israel from the other side and they told me take it it will protect you i asked how much did it cost so that's for free said okay give me two okay i'll sell the tourists so i took it and i put it in my bag and i forgot it totally and that night i found it and i looked at this paper and i talked to myself fangirl you broke you silent you're supposed to start half a year again before you are starting try to do meditation not with words of the reiki the reiki is based on four words in japanese like mantras okay they believe that the words are like keys to open your energy or the others so you broke your silence so you cannot practice meditation with the words in hebrew take whatever you want one of the words or a sentence or verse and try to do meditation with it when you are practicing meditation there's a lot of ways of limitations but one of them is verbal meditation i will take one of words one sentence and i will repeat it loudly again again and again so i decided to take from this paper one of the verses i didn't know i know the hebrew but i don't understand what it means so i took the headline i called it the headline it was like with two big letters and for me it was the headline so i decided to do meditation with the headline for the first time in my life i was sitting like that in my room it's late at night everybody's asleep i'm sitting with one candle seeing this paper and for the first time in my life i'm saying this my israel i'm saying like that is [Applause] and i'm shivering i don't understand what i've said i know the words but here in israel there's bhagavata they call it it's testing the torah i copied everything okay i don't know anything for the first time in my life i said it's my and my i'm breaking i'm breaking myself down like i don't understand what i've said i have here a volcano i have here like a like a bomb i am practicing meditations for years nothing let me felt like like this thing what is this verse i want somebody to explain to me what the words i'm says what what the meaning of the word i don't think that my fellows here in the monastery can help me and uh i don't know how about also i love them but i want the dangerous people from me they know what they're saying okay i want them okay let's go all the
