Project Inspire 15th Anniversary Dinner 2020

[Music] and hello everybody and welcome to the project inspire dinner it is amazing to be with you right now 15 years what an incredible night what an incredible celebration i can tell you i remember vividly the beginning of project inspire going to the age center in the city seeing rabbi samson sitting right by trump having events with just a few people just showing up and it was the beginning of this vision of this movement that has taken on epic proportions what has taken place in 15 years is an incredible testament to not only the people that are running it but also to the vision of the great rav noah who charged all those that are responsible to take responsibility for the jewish people and to do great things and project inspire is a crown jewel in the uh in that vision i'm here joined we've got an incredible program for you stick with us for all of it there's so much coming your way in the next uh hour or two it's going to be something that's wonderful and of course i am joined with my favorite co-host you may have seen us together in those hours and hours and hours of tish above uh together before we head on our show i am joined with managing director uh yussi freeman is with me right now as my co-host uh yussi welcome to the show it's an honor to have you on with me here and yes you know it's absolutely our honor to have you on here uh i know that we uh we sort of got you after you were already booked to do something else but there was no way you were going to be able to miss the uh 15th annual dinner so i understand we get you it for at least half the show is that right yes yes unfortunately i have a speech tonight but i said i have to move it because there's no way i'm missing the project inspire dennis i'll be with you until nine o'clock and then you'll be in the trusted great hands of the one and only yesterday and yes see how does it feel someone who is so intimately involved with project inspire how does it feel tonight this is a moment of celebration where a moment you get take a breath appreciate what everyone has done and really be into to just sort of be proud of what what has been accomplished you know it is incredible charlie and you have to pinch yourself and wonder how we even got here and i think that the people that are joining us this evening uh they'll understand really well after this evening how we actually got here we're going to be meeting the people that got us here we're going to be meeting the great heroes along the way who sort of snowballed this amazing movement and got us to where we are it's not exactly how i envisioned it to be honest i envisioned um having a 15-year celebration at a convention where we you know actually rent 50 or 60 hotels so we can bring all of claudius all together and really uh and really celebrate but here we are in the comfort of our own homes many of us are in the comfort of a wonderful studio here in jerusalem at three o'clock in the morning but either way that's fine and um and then here we are and although we're in our own homes we've learned to become a community online and here we are again and i encourage viewers uh you're already on you're watching our show would have been in front of a thousand people on a friday night with the whole world there but in many ways we can reach more people right now and like you're saying and what project spy really has done which we'll talk to later in the program is really capitalize on this new world of zoom and being able to be in people's lives even in a way that is much more home much more intimate we can be connected that way of course uh we should we need to start the program correctly and what better way to do that than to hear from the russia shiva breverkowitz is not only a leader for the entire jewish people he's the rabbi of rabbis there are hundreds of rabbis around the world that call him for direction he's rosh kolel of the jerusalem call he's also the russia shiva isha torah an individual who is really not just confined to one institution but is somebody who is leading the way in the entire world please listen to a message you know he actually brings with him you know a message we're forgetting that we're three or four days before rosh hashanah right so you know what better way to lead us into the new year and to start off our program tonight than to hear directly from the rashiba bay chateaura rabbi yitzhak berkovitz on rosh hashanah the world is created anew humanity is given life a year's worth of life the quality of life is determined the opportunities of life are determined and yes we praise remember us to life but if one noted the essence of all of our prayer in rosh hashanah is for humanity to recognize that it was created creation know that it was created know that there is a loving creator the reason that is the essence the focus of our prayers is because the creator created this world out of his goodness for the sake of giving and he offers us endless meaning a relationship with him the ability to perfect ourselves and become like him and become close to him and to feel everything wonderful in building ourselves but instead most of humanity chooses vanity rather than deal with our own anger we say let everyone put up with who i am rather than be there for everyone we're greedy we're selfish the world was created for us to enjoy what it means to grow to share to live a meaningful life to perfect ourselves there's nothing like it and yet humanity doesn't take advantage of it and the creator the creator sits there wanting to share wanting to give and most of humanity would prefer the vanity and what not what the creator has to offer the samsons they've got a passion they've got a passion for every jew to know that secret the secret of the meaning of life the secret of just how wonderful it is to lead a meaningful life and how vanity gets you nowhere how vanity does not build you leaves you empty how long do you enjoy the experience of the meal you had you give it's forever you grow it's forever you're close to the creator oh that's sublime and forever this is what the samson's passion is about project inspire it continues to exist and continues to grow and reaches so many and inspires so many to inspire others because of the passion rabbi samson remember that it's his passion that has kindled passion in so many others and has created this whole organization this whole network and all the organizations that have grown off it i take this opportunity to salute the samsons let us all share in expressing our appreciation for them and i guess the best that we can do the greatest gift the greatest acknowledgement is to spread the sams's passion for a meaningful life for every jew to connect to his creator for every jew to recognize there is nothing better in life than a life of meaning a life of torah a life of being close to hashem i wish project inspire more and more success and i wish the samson so many years of building it further and really seeing the masses flock to project inspire and the various projects that grow off the offshoots of project inspire thank you all very much amazing to hear from uh berkowitz or shiva vaishatura uh with such a beautiful message and you know today with tonight charlie we actually co-hosted in this dinner by uh dr stuart heightman as you know as a family partner of project inspire as well as um mr allen isaac gross who also they co-chaired this dinner together and charlie you know them you've met them by all of our events you've been intimately involved in them and they actually pulled this together in terms of getting the sponsorships that we needed and the real and the backing that we needed to run tonight's program and you know what's amazing is that project buyer stands for so much i think the project inspires content leadership you don't have to be a professional to be involved in the jewish community you don't have to be a career professional to be very involved in care of every human being has to take responsibility um and mr heightman mr gross these are two individuals um that i personally look up to because these are two business individuals along with their families that have taken upon themselves to do the work that it's it's unbelievable that it's happening with one person they're doing so much and you ask yourself like how is it possible that they have this to do with not to do this dude not to do and the answer is is that they carry the burden of other people because they care and it's this is one of the great aspects of project inspire is that they walk the walk and they have leaders that show us how every one of us can be and how every one of us can live so it's to me it's it's it's a it's just seeing them is a tremendous inspiration you know and and it's exactly right charlie and i want to say this because we're going to go right into a special message and introduction by alan gross in just a moment you know we would sit in again this is pre-corona when there actually was offices and there was manhattan you know things like that we would sit in isaac rose's office and we would have these meetings about project inspire and pushing us forward and things like the shabbos project that bringing more jews and connecting more jews together with judaism and with project inspire and we yakov giniger and i who's uh you know we can't even go a minute further in the show without you know shout out to behind the scenes star producer over here yeah and you know we would sit around and we would wonder what in the world do the business associates of alan gross actually think like he's busy deal with deals all day long and yet his passion is sitting in this room where a bunch of rabbis and you know giving us over the head sometimes but really because his passion really lies you know with the jewish people and with project inspire okay i tell you quickly i was i was honored yeah i've been to his office many times and i i had the same exact feeling we're sitting in the office and there's so much going on and there's at least negotiations and then after it's like he put everybody's like i'll stop at the jewish people like and you can see here's a person that although he is the ceo and the chairman of a large real estate company you see where his heart's at him and his wonderful wife you see that their heart and their soul is nestled uh in the jewish people so it's such an honor to be able to begin tonight and that's it so so without further ado i'd like to introduce and thank alan and edie gross for all their support for project inspire and pushing us to do more and more every day without further ado the co-chair of tonight's program mr allen isaacross dinner of project inspire it was almost yesterday idi and myself were privileged to have renoir as a shabbos visitor every time that he came to new york he would make sure that he would spend at least one chavez at our house rebnoch understood that in order to accomplish his vision and his dream that he had to take people that are going to be inspiring and getting them involved one by one and getting them to see that without them and without changing the world and without people going out and doing different things then we're never going to get this army and we're never going to change the world kai and samson was a talent of noah he was tapped by romney to start and lead this army and everything that i've seen and everything that i've watched and my wife recently came back from one of the trips to israel bringing 120 people it's unbelievable where we've grown to and the excitement when i'm able to look at khaim and say israel watching i cannot think of anybody more deserving than haim and you have at samson for all the years that they've sacrificed their lives and everything that they do for project inspire they live and breathe project inspire and it's been my honor and my pleasure to know them both for the last 15 years and see the masiras nephesh and the kiddush hashem that they do on a daily basis and how um it's it's their lives and rebnoch would be very very proud of them i would also like to thank the entire project inspired team so i hope you all get with the program understand what this is all about and look forward to seeing you all at all future project inspire and asia torah events and i thank you i would be remiss that i wouldn't thank my coho uh chairman stuart heitman dr stewart hypen and his wife andrea who give their lives to asian to project inspire and of course the ceo of asia torah rabbi stephen berg and his wife rachel tonight we are honoring mark and michelle mandelman who i've watched you grow for the last many years you come to the conventions you come to shabbos projects you've slowly been growing into the role that we're very proud and you yourself see how your lives have changed and i don't think that i can say enough of watching you and watching your enthusiasm and watching your growth as a jew and your growth as people of understanding the importance of what project inspired does we've always identified jewishly uh that was always very important to us um but we were essentially uh you know high holiday goers 2014 my wife went on the first trip to israel and that really began a you know a process like many other families as soon as michelle came back from that first trip of course i was being you know pressured to go on a trip myself i said you know this is all this learning and spirituality that's great for you i'm very busy with my practice um this is if this is something that you're interested in that's fine for you it wasn't really for me and then i got invited to go to a project inspire lunch and learn and heard rabbi hyam samson speak and it was really just a mind-blowing experience you know we started infusing more religious practice and spirituality in in our everyday lives kid-ish every friday night lighting candles every friday night making cola mission michelle got very involved with the challenge great big chalabake and then i took back that whole experience and brought it to our temple and taught about 30 women once a year for the last three years not only about making bread but about the spirituality of each ingredient and showing these women that there's more to judaism than they've ever experienced [Music] you know very involved with project inspire we started going to body and soul uh shabbat tones and then i went on uh the first men's trip in october of 2017 and that was you know everything that i thought it would be it was an incredible experience we made our house kosher in 2018. just so happens i went on a momentum trip in 2013 and i came home the night before the hanukkah party i remember myself sitting in the living room saying michelle you have to go on this trip it was made for you [Music] mark and i have had the opportunity to go to israel our wine whiskey and wisdoms that we have uh mark is always myjavusa i purposely match him up with me because i enjoy so much learning together with him and drinking a little whiskey with him michelle and mark you are not only our cousins you're our friends you are our role models um you are role models to both the from community to the secular community to people in between to everybody you just look at you when i look at you i just smile and say both of you you're our role models and we're honored to share this evening with you and we're happy to be on a journey with you we're going at baby steps so we can achieve the um the long marathon of life and judaism thank you for all you do thank you for the learning that you do thank you for making torah relevant it's a beautiful message and we want to make mentioned in in the film itself that you're you're taking the baby steps of this marathon of life and in judaism we have a special tribute to you we're going to be joined now by shulam lemmer as you know who uh is part of the universal music group signed a record contra record label with them a beautiful tribute to a song that will continue generations from the mandelman's family let's go out to shalom lemmer with a beautiful tribute to the mandelmans and when i came back [Music] sadie's gone and all his books were packed and hi i'm shulam it's an honor to be with you tonight to be part of such an incredible organization like project inspire i had the privilege to be part of one of the shabbos and the big shabbos with project inspire and indeed i can say i was inspired so i want to start with a song called my zadie it talks about that what the zayi really brings to the family and what the duty on us to give over to the next generation our tradition and our torah and everything that kept us going all the way back to moshirabenu so i hear this song my zadie my zadie lived with us in my parents home he used to lie he put me on his knees [Music] he spoke about the soldiers who had beat him they laughed at him they tore his long black combs and he spoke about a synagogue that they [Music] [Applause] [Music] how i love [Music] his eyes lit up when he would teach me torah he taught me every line so carefully i spoke about our slavery in egypt i know god took us out to make us free but winter went by and summer came along i went to camp to run and play and when i came back home they said sadie's gone and all his books were packed and stored away now i don't know how i came to be it happened slowly over many years we just stopped being jewish like seat he was had no one kid enough to shed a tear but it made us laugh [Music] how i love him now many winters went by many summers came along now my little children sit in front of me and i think who will be this lady of my children who will be there's 80 if not me who will be the zadies of our children who will be their zadies if not [Music] friday [Applause] [Music] used to teach me wrong from right and now we say these we'll teach them wrong [Music] amazing tribute one of the one of the signs of a great company a great organization is the ability to pivot and as you can see from project inspire that when the virus hit and we all were confined to our homes project inspired didn't stop for those who had the opportunity to go to the conventions to go on the trips to go to the classes the luncheon learns you saw much project inspire leveraged gatherings to be able to teach wisdom and to inspire and when everything they didn't immediately launching classes and events like mind flex and other online opportunities i was blessed i am blessed because during time we launched a show called the shabbat show it's every week at 5 30 uh now we're going to switch to thursday night and at the beginning i thought when i spoke to yasie about it yes you remember when you called me about this and we schmoozed it out right remember we one time maybe two times maybe three and i think last week we were zoha we were worthy to do our 22nd week um and with god's help going strong yossi can you imagine um where this has this where this has gone you know it charlie i'll tell you the truth in the shabbat show so i learned how to make columns first of all my first shabbat shalom has to go out to charlie hirari this is it last question for the win this time of uncertainty this time of challenge and in this type of an environment with a broad community of people all over the world who were bringing shiba at home the key to joy really lie within my own faith art science but certainly of wine and i'm gonna give you a quick two minute make everybody wine expert tasters it encouraged me to start lighting candles whether i was by myself or with my family everything that i valued everything that i prioritized in my life right then when i saw her cyanotic blue tips of her nails were purple lifted out of the pool with men screaming somebody call 9-1-1 somebody call 9-1-1 i started my journey as a belly tube i started keeping shabbat started keeping kosher is it cabernet sauvignon and i realized that i was so energized recharging my jewish batteries concord if you know no ear we do all of the event stuff or chardonnay but we shut down on ciabatta we can help each person i got into a point in my life where i don't care what anybody says or thinks about me as long as i'm doing the right thing and we come to this one magical incredible thing called shabbos i think that in order for us to become better human beings along the way it starts with just basically putting yourself in their shoes right the kahoot game continues hosaic is on top times when you tell yourself i can feel pain i don't have to become my pain i can feel sorrow i don't have to become my sorrow they don't say if he falls they say when he falls which of these popular items was first developed in israel a couple of pieces of information here a lot of people don't know i was one of the backup dancers in that god arizona you know there was a meeting in new york with a bunch of women and robin meyerson came from arizona to join those women and before you know it um this project inspired arizona that does not just project inspire arizona it's like we're sort of like trying to catch up with project inspire arizona we sort of like you can't catch our breath um and so uh we're gonna show we're gonna show a beautiful tribute uh we're going to show a beautiful tribute now to our next honorees um to charlie and robin myerson out in um in arizona i'll throw a beautiful tribute to the morrisons i like to tell people that uh the turning point was really uh when our daughter was about two years old and had a babysitter who went out of town for two weeks and we needed to find an alternative and we called all the schools in town that had preschools and they all said no we don't take children for two weeks and i called one preschool and they said sure bring her in and that was young israel phoenix preschool and from there we got on the mailing list and one day i decided hey there's a class on wednesday night i think i'll go and that's when it all started i grew up in australia malaysia and england and i never even heard of shabbat the first time i heard about shabbat i thought it was on sunday and i thought it was for nuns i never even heard of it why do you have so many what is all this well this i like for all the kids and grandkids for six years i did the shabbos project in the holobake with a whole bunch of volunteers and i had this very large database and i decided i needed help so i thought i need to reach out to project inspire i was in new york and i went to go see the project inspire staff and i said i'm doing this pretty much alone and with a whole bunch of volunteers what can i do and they said come back to new york and meet a bunch of ladies who do exactly what you're doing so i went back to new york and i met all these amazing women from toronto and from new york and from new jersey and they shared everything that they do and we started project inspire arizona and i have a team of many many fantastic partners and volunteers people are learning one-on-one we're giving out shabbat candles we're hanging up mezuzas there's so many programs that we are doing with project inspire this is our sukkah but during regular year we can have like 50 people in here for shabbos my role is really i'm the cso for project inspire arizona that's the chief schlepping officer so my job is to slap hollow ingredients and books and tables and chairs charlie is the first one in chill every morning the last one to leave robin's incredible enthusiasm and energy is legendary and we're proud to be a small part of that here in scottsdale arizona we have over a hundred thousand jews in arizona and even though we have amazing rabbis and references there's not enough manpower or hours of the day to reach all these people over the years the myersons have inspired us probably more than we inspired them if i could leave one message with the people who are watching this tonight is that you have to reach out i mean we wouldn't be who we are if someone hadn't reached out to us and loved us and taught us and so i would encourage everybody watching this tonight that you just take a half an hour a week learn with someone over the phone invite them to your sukkah invite them to light hanukkah candles if every single person watching this tonight just reached one family we would totally change the world let's go out to uh scottsdale arizona morrisons know it's one thing when we have you know individuals and we're paying tribute to them it's it's unusual to pay tribute to an entire group of people that that have really taken on the movement the project inspired to to a new level it's like you know they call themselves team queens but truth be told each individual out in queens are really heroes uh in and of themselves as a group they've done tremendous work they've come together as a community not a holiday not a shabbat goes by without them getting together and uniting really over over uh projects that are shabbat oriented that are really different facets of judaism ladies and gentlemen was ladies and gentlemen i want to uh go out we'll go out to queens momentarily but a special tribute to team queens for those who are still with you my involvement with judaism before and after i was invited into the project inspire family growing up i had zero jewish education i didn't know if there was a god needless to say i did not have a relationship with god then now i know in my heart of hearts that hashem is with me and i see the hand of god every day in my life growing up my family was jewish through culture we ate jewish food and i couldn't go out and play one day a year i didn't want my children to have the same lack of knowledge that i had my sons went to hebrew school and unfortunately after they each became a bar mitzvah they basically turned their backs on judaism fast forward to today one of my sons has a learning partner through project inspire i called him up last week and he said he was reading i asked him what he reads to which he replied i only read one book i thought that was strange so i asked him what is the one book you read and his reply the torah talk about let's talk about team queens this is the perfect example of breaking down all the barriers between orthodox and non-orthodox people our group consists of city leaders and participants aka orthodox women and non-orthodox women they call me the president but everyone on this team is a superstar we meet every few weeks we collaborate and brainstorm together to come up with ways to enhance our participants lives we have a learning component intertwined with fun themed gatherings whether we learn to belly dance or have a paint night all the participants seem to love to come together with their sisters the president of team queens carol drucker thanks for a beautiful message really you know charlie i was mentioning that you know here we are as we're we're paying tribute to team queens but each individual is really you know a hero in it of themselves and well you know uh carol said in her video in in that she's you know just representative of the entire team but really you know but really we got so many of them you know charlie i was mentioning that you know here we are as we were we're paying tribute to team queens but each individual is really you know a hero of themselves yeah one of one of the things that's so critical you know carol said in her video and that she's you know just representative of you okay one of the things that's so incredible here is that you see just how much everybody respects each other it's really special when you see a group of people together and each one and you see from carol's message how much she just loves and appreciates everybody else so this is really a unique team and i'm excited to hear all the more we hear more about it and this is really what the jewish people are supposed to be about we're a team we're people we're a nation and we love and respect each other amazing let's go to team let's let's show you team queens project inspired dedicated this event this zoom dinner to the memories of my father and my mother-in-law and also our team members fariba she lost her mother and her sister you're going to be meeting amazing women with a heart of gold and the sensitivity that they have for every single person is it's just boundless it's just brought together many people and unity is really one of the most important things to me [Music] in 2011 rabbi sampson came to our neighborhood and he gave a series of lectures about foundation of judaism and at the end he asked who would like to volunteer to take women to israel with little or no background team queens is a group of women who absolutely love being jewish and their love is so profound and their love is so deep and real that they just need to share it with everybody around it so i am a second career attorney my first career i was a fashion designer my background i come from the persian community and we're very culturally jewish lighting the candles going to shul but it was much more cultural and symbolic it wasn't a spiritual at least the way i was raised i learned about project inspire for my sister jackie she had gone to israel with the group in 2016 and i went to israel october of 2017 and i had the time of my life i met some lifelong friends and i learned about judaism in a completely different way part of my growth since 2017 i have started doing a torah study one of the team leaders in arizona her name is robin meyerson she's my study partner and once a week we uh we study torah we study the parsha project inspire us to want me is to look inward to feel a connection with other women who have different levels of religiosity different levels of observance judaism is about holding on to it following the torah and mitzvot and sharing it with everyone you know all if you teach olive queen's group has really enhanced my [Music] life just want to thank them for enriching my life and um and i want to thank god for putting me in this place so that i can be part of an organization like this and really make an impact in the world and that's what these women do they're so loving and each and every one of the leaders are so dimensionally different we have we have funny we have shy we have witty we have smart everybody's completely different and that's so wonderful because as the as the ladies are coming in it's okay we've got to you're home [Music] amazing congratulations team queens can we go out to queens are we all within does queens hear me team queens team queens come in team queens [Applause] there's a lot of noise i'm assuming that's team queens right we're seeing the sky we're seeing the sky in queens it's beautiful weather out there i know team queens can we see them can we see your plaques [Music] okay team queens we want to be able to read the tribute of the plaques that you received over there if you could hold them up charlie arrary can you see the plaques at the end i can see i'd like to read the plaques for everybody that is uh watching this project inspire queens truly exemplifies the project inspire model you bring together diverse women from new to jewish wisdom to lifelong learners located throughout queens to great neck and back to manhattan spanning different ages professions and family dynamics yet all of your participants bond intellectually emotionally and unite around love of jews judaism and israel whether via trips to israel classes given by and hosted members chala bakes pre-shabbat holiday workshops and much more everyone's lives are changed positively and forever for all the above reasons and more project inspire queens has been selected for the first time in project inspire's 15-year history with an award for extraordinary branch achievement congratulations mazel tov and thank you for being a beacon of what the jewish people stand for okay okay okay thank you charlie and thank you team queens team queens we actually have a a special uh a special tribute for you you know charlie uh charlie myers had mentioned you know chief schlepping officer many husbands are sort of schlepped along by their amazing wives and the work that they've done tonight we have a special tribute by one of the husbands uh it is tribute to to the women of queens and the project inspire ladies and gentlemen a special surprise and tribute to the women of team queens my name is gordon drucker i would like to pay tribute to the queen's honorees especially for my wife carol and share my thoughts with you [Music] and ode to project inspire has anyone seen my darling wife married 33 years the love of my life times were we did everything together always in unison birds of a feather then one day she got involved with project inspire and all of a sudden everything went haywire at first i thought it was some midlife crisis like joining the marines are going to fight isis she used to drive her kids to school not that he has to take the carpool thursday nights it's a holiday gown when i sit home eating takeout i hoped for at least a weekend in a nice honeymoon suite but i wound up in new jersey at some body and soul retreat at work i can volunteer now for late night shifts because she's packing out holiday gifts i get breakfast alone at 7 11 while she's occupied with work of heaven to add to my complaints here is the winner now i understand i have to participate in this dinner so has anyone seen my darling wife married 33 years the love of my life well after some reflection and being objective i come to see that project inspire has a new perspective because of my wife's experience and such spiritual growth has had an immeasurable impact on her and me both i used to think judaism was just the high holidays but now i have new insights on god's holy ways and that positive influence has not just touched me it's been an inspiration for our whole family she's taught me that religion is a gradual climb getting closer to god one step at a time every act every mitzvah every good deed makes us better people helps us to succeed and i've come to learn with deep admiration that we are all part of the great jewish nation so from the bottom of my heart i thank project inspire which has helped propel us higher and higher and most of all i thank my dear wife whose deep spirituality has changed our lives so it turns out my wife is a messenger together with her friends in bringing the mashiach thank you project inspire thank you carol thank you for doing this you're great thank you guys enough ama amazing was it wasn't he amazing carol we can't hear you your audio's not on sorry about that yes yes very big surprise that tears in my eyes that was really beautiful he meant every word by the way unbelievable especially the 7-eleven breakfast you know amazing thank you thank you gordon thank you carol for everything that you do for team queens is all about okay charlie is uh as i mentioned earlier in the show charlie has you know an another speaking engagement and so i'd like to intro now um the highlight of tonight's uh tonight's uh dinner program you know in project inspire charlie mentioned it earlier he remembers the early days of getting started a really you know uh going community to community you'll see more about it momentarily none of this would have been possible uh without dr stewart and andrea heitmann from toronto canada really who have been with us as partners from the beginning who push us every step of the way more and more and so a message from tonight's founding partner of project inspire dr stewart heightman as well as tonight's co-chairman from toronto canada to take us into tonight's um highlight of tonight's program dr stuart heightman hi i'm stuart heitman chairman and founding partner of project inspire along with my wife andrea i'm also honored to be the chairman of tonight's online event with my co-chair isaac gross who i thank for all his efforts in project inspire the mission of project inspire has always been to create a movement among the orthodox community who reach out and unite with their fellow brothers and sisters and share with them the meaning and the beauty of their judaism this was the dream of ravnoch weinberg zekhar zadek livrakha he realized without a lay driven movement of the orthodox world we would not have the necessary manpower to turn back the tide of assimilation however ravnoch would say if we could just get the orthodox jews to make the effort we could bring meshiach now the gemara in kedushan says bharati yetzerhara ubaratilo torah tablin i've created the yatsuhara the evil inclination and i've created for it torah as its antidote i think the most remarkable thing about all of the activities of project inspire was that when from jews reached out and united with other jews they themselves became more energized in their judaism they themselves became more inspired any challenges that they may have felt of their own growth fell by the wayside not only were they connecting jews to the meaning of their judaism but project inspired was the toddling was the antidote for their own spiritual growth these have been the ingredients that have brought project inspire so much success with so many jews now you know every engine needs its fuel every computer needs its power supply the fuel and the power supply of project inspire is its founding director rabbi haim samson and his wife jochebed his sheer passion and energy has taken an organization that has done a few initiatives to an organization that has affected tens of thousands of jews throughout north and south america an organization that has motivated other jews to create their own organizations which in turn has affected many jews i believe rafhaim's ability to push project inspire from one success to the next is driven by his deep passion and love for jews and the jewish people which i've had the opportunity have seen all the time firsthand and of course the reason that he's been able to accomplish all the things that he has is due to his incredible wife and primary supporter you'll have it no one can accomplish what they can without someone who's a rock solid support constantly encouraging them picking you up when you need it giving you a push when you need it rabbitson your merits for project inspire are great may you always feel the pleasure and the knackers of all of these accomplishments rav noah he always taught his talmudim there is nothing that hashem can't do all he wants from us is to care enough all he wants from us is to devote ourselves enough all he wants from us is to want it enough there was no one i know who epitomizes this teaching of rav noah more than rabbi khayyam and yuchevid samson it is my great honor tonight to introduce to you rabbi hayyam and jocheved samson well i'll tell you ravnoch called me when i when we started and he used to call me quite regularly and he said hiyan you're going to get a lot of reward for this right and i was used to say rebbe but you know i've been working for asia toro for a long time he said no but this is different [Music] if you can get the layperson to share the beauty of turtle with his fellow jew that's all something altogether different he said i think we just need a few hasidim to come and sing so i said i'd love to i see this guy long here he's wearing a leather jacket and jeans [Music] he was waiting for me to basically start learning with him [Music] he was looking for a kosher restaurant because he was about two or three weeks into keeping kosher [Applause] all i was doing was just you know let me just try to do something you know my rebbe ravnochuaima told me this is something you should try so i tried [Music] i grew up in a traditional family when i was 17 i went to asia terror because my brother who was a year older than me was an aish and he said that you know he met a wise man and he's you know he's desert there's evidence that there's god and god gave the torah and i thought ah he's lost his marbles so when i was 17 i went with a friend we went to chatura and i figured i'm going to like take him on you know he's making a big mistake so essentially when it takes a turret to get him out but that was the beginning i went to ishitara and uh i met rav noah and i listened to his his his wisdom for living and uh one thing led to another you know i went through the evidence and the proofs and they got me in a double nelson and uh what could i do it was uh you know the truth of the torah spoke to me you know when i came to aisha torah it was an exciting time we were young people we were passionate we wanted to do something with our lives we were young and we were idealistic and we met a man who gave us a vision how you can change the whole world my husband was working for ace new york in manhattan on the upper west side and he wanted to fulfill his mission to bring all of hashem's children back to torah so we started very simply with what we called easy outreach gifts right they were gifts that you can give to someone before a festival before rosh hashanah i was involved in designing the gifts and kind of sourcing the various items that went into the gifts a little bit later came the incredible films of the inspired films that it's greenman put together and i said to him listen you put out the film we'll do the follow-up colorful characters guns of glades and others who got involved in yiddish kite and and the whole message of the film was they became involved in yiddishkai here you can share this with with people and they will respond and thousands of people started doing it but then they came back to when it says right you know ruby sampson this is all very good but what happened they asked me a question you know i got the relationship in and i'm doing that let's start doing care of training programs we went to from shore to shul in in five towns brooklyn queens all these different i neighborhoods go to schools i would speak in uh urbanim and muncie they let me come and speak and instead of their shabbos speech have so advertised cure of training are you interested to know more about kirov do you need some training and i thought i probably need some training we decided to to meet at rabbi daniel corrin's house we had a series of meetings and we came up with a fascinating idea which was you can actually train our people who've got involved to actually give the seminar we had mrs reifer from boro park an orthodox housewife with 13 children now she was teaching and in fact she started teaching internationally she was so good [Music] people coming up who really bought into the mission and felt this is important i want to be a part of it wherever samson pushed me to a wall every time i used to meet him this is her marriage you got to do something you got to do something and many of them came up with their own ideas so during the shabbaton there wasn't much sinking going on so i was sitting with my friends friday night and after the event after the keynote speech we were singing and there was a rabbi philadelphia next to our table and he said hey that sounds like a smack maybe come to our community and do just what you're doing i said yeah with the traveling casino [Music] so we had people you know from queens that went into the shopping malls and they used to would give out colors and cuggle to the israelis in the kiosks we created partners these partners are doing things in all these different communities and not only they're doing it but they're working together it really became a sense of of movement that we're in this together that we spent on the roads with project inspire were fascinating and something that i'll never forget the shabbos in cincinnati the shabbos in baltimore and the best social hopefully more as time goes on for many years jacob solomon was saying you know what we have to do a convention and it was like a dream we never thought we could probably the first time i realized how big this was was one of the first few conferences where it was getting filled up very quickly 700 people 1200 people open up a second hotel [Music] it's an amazing showers obviously and multi-shops they give up sign-up cards they got people involved with the project four weeks later i got a phone call and they said hello it's the decline so i said yes uh yeah we found you so i said i'm not in yeshiva i'm already talking about i'm not looking for havoc i said remember a few weeks ago you were in project inspire shabbos mata shabbas you signed up she said oh yeah i had that momentary lapse of sanity so i said okay fine get me the guy's number i'll call him she said no we already gave him your number and he's gonna call you and really project inspire became really a byword for inspiration in general [Music] you know there was the idea of a holla bake you know everybody likes to eat color they bake highlight fantastic and in brooklyn for example we did a holiday for 2500 people [Music] i know everyone says no i know but this is really no trust me i'm doing you a favor i know you think it's not my thing you don't understand i don't do cure what would ravenous say to me now he would say heim you've done well we've got a lot more to do we're just getting going [Music] should continue to inspire not just inspire to really build rabbi samson the king of kirib has got us involved in momentum jwrp we now take thousands of women does it affect them yes does it affect us yes we've developed the means of how to how to bring this much further i always thought that uh that he would do it because i know that that's who he is and absolutely nothing will stop him this will bring inspiration to the whole from community and to the non-firm community [Music] 15 years we just have to appreciate where we are today compared to where we were 15 years ago [Music] [Applause] the next step for project inspire is just to continue on the work that they're doing just to expand the programs and and bring the message out to so many more of a nubian israel there are so many more that are not informed [Music] i once asked rob noah you know if we could get the whole of the orthodox community reaching out to their brothers and sisters right but they're just not really moving them they're not really getting that involved you know is that worth doing and he said if you can do that nishik will come tomorrow [Music] may he may he actually come tomorrow even today still immerse hashem rabbi sampson your heaven small i see you you're hiding back there you can't hide you can't hide from us i want to go sort of off camera for a moment because it's just me to you to all of you and i want to say that i personally forget about the inspiration you are to the thousands in the film and to the tens of thousands that are out there but to me you're an inspiration your dedication to claudius roll the kid of hashem that you make every day is really a truly inspiration for me and so on behalf of myself my family the project inspire family and the tens of thousands out there mazel tov to you and like you yourself said in the film it's just the beginning there's much more to do thank you so much robert samson could you remind charlie and rob myerson to honor them the pillars of arizona i've seen the the droves of people they've brought to israel that they've influenced it's really been incredibly moving and of course mark and michelle mandelman who are personal friends of myself my wife my wife went on a mission with michelle and she still learns other today mark has has used his professional skills to help asia torah and i consider him a very warm and close friend and of course the heart and soul of not just project inspire but of asia torah everyone will tell you that rabbi hym samson and his wife his rabbit said yocheved they really embody what ishitar is he spent so many years learning for of noah weinberg if you close your eyes just put the british accent aside for a moment you this you just close your eyes and you listen to everything that reprimand has to say it is literally like you're listening to rav weinberg today he truly is a student he truly is an inspiration he's truly someone that believes in the jewish people he's certainly someone that believes in the almighty uh rebecca sampson and his representative have it really are all that is best about the jewish people and it's an honor for me to be here tonight with all of you even though we're still a little bit in our homes and we're sitting here just digitally it really is an honor to just uh compliment them thank them and and acknowledge them for the hard work that that the samsons have done and all the other couples that are being on here tonight and and i feel so close because uh i feel friends uh really on a personal level with all of them and uh i wish project inspire from the bottom of my heart that they should continue on the mission of north weinberg the mission of jewish people and really continue for many many decades to from egypt and gave us the torah in mount sinai when the shofar was blowing and the hope for the fully redemption i wish you and your families and your friends and the whole people of israel the the specific dimensions that you've chosen to work in because they are actually the most important ones of all firstly grow i'm just interested in that concept as long as it doesn't apply to waist lines you know that there were certain young geniuses who were totally and absolutely brilliant and achieved greatness very young but never did much after that what was the difference between the ones who as it were fizzled out early and the ones who kept growing and achieving greatness even at an advanced age and the short answer was did they keep learning so rule one learn number two rule number two is grow that i think um is terribly important in here my role model is motion albana you know when you're 119 years and 11 months old you have spent most of your life leading the israelites to the brink of the promised land and you know you are not going to cross the jordan and be there with them what do you do do you retire actually what mosh did was rather unexpected he did a sort of uh he did a uh took on a a new job he um took on a new career for the last month of his life she became a teacher and his lessons are in the book that we call sephie davarian [Music] and it turns out that that last month of his life was far and away the most important because that is how we remember him moshe albania we don't remember him as moses the law giver moses the liberator moses the prophet moses the miracle worker we remember him as moshe albania and that was his willingness to set himself a new challenge at the very end of his life do something that he'd never really done before never done in a sustained and consistent way and that tells me that those people who grow defeat the principle of entropy which says all systems lose energy over time the terror says emotional bennu that at the end of his life his i was undimmed his natural energy unabated he had no entropy whatsoever why because every single day of his life he was growing finally share you know people don't often enough do the very simple sum that when it comes to material goods like wealth or power the more i share the less i have if i have a thousand pounds and share it with nine other people i only have one tenth of what i began with if i have total power and i share that with nine people i only have one tenth of the power i had to begin with but if i have a certain amount of knowledge and share that with nine other people or a certain amount of influence and share that with nine other people then i don't have less i actually have more because spiritual goods work not by division but by multiplication the more we share the more we have therefore when it comes to judaism any element you care to think about the more we share with others the more we will have the more we share our learning with others the more we share our table with others through the more we share our our um now visiting the sick and and the lonely and the isolated we will find the more we have so learn grow and share and may project being honoured by project inspire i remember many years ago speaking with the russian shiva without medium rabbi weinberg and he used to uh push us and say we need project inspire we need what he called waking up secret giants and when we asked him why it wasn't happening he said well we we need the right person look kind of right know how well broke hashem you haim and your heaven came along you moved to america you started it i remember it in a small way you started i think also the honey jars sending out your honey and your cards from your own house to different people around and baruch hashem from there it stands from strength to strength to strength and i know that it's taken enormous masirus nephesh it has not been easy at all but hashem has given you great hatsalaka i think one of the beautiful things about project inspire is and there's an idea that we live in a generation or since the exile 2000 years ago that our problem has been baseless hatred and really the tickle and the fixing of this is avast unconditional full love for every person and i think that's what project inspire really encapsulates to bring that love to all the people or the jews in the world wherever they may be whoever they may be and my blessing to you and to your team to all who are involved in projects fun on every level because it's all crucial is that they themselves are blessed and that you bring project inspire it goes from strength to strength to the whole world the whole jewish world in aries israel particularly and of course the holy british isles and i wish i hope i'm sorry i can't
