okay so we're speaking today about a super important topic which is objectives of prayer prayer what do you accomplish when you pray what are you doing and the example we always like to give is if someone gives you a very boring job which is um let me here's here's a table a bunch of wooden blocks turn the blocks over again and again and again right then uh and and just keep on doing it right how much you're gonna pay you thousand dollars an hour so if you know you're making a thousand dollars an hour you work eight hours yeah that's eight thousand dollars in a day that's very good you wouldn't be upset right let's say there's another person doing the same job but she doesn't know she's doing that job he has no idea he should they don't know that they're getting paid a thousand dollars an hour so what would you do like oh it's torture so when you dive and you don't know what you're doing it's totally boring it's totally frustrating you're like what am i doing like every day over the place trying to get i'm trying to get that paper i couldn't get the paper they lost my paper yeah um one of my kids needed to get their social security and their passport so they got themselves the passport social security number but the social care number they never gave it to us we got it in the embassy in tel aviv then they moved the embassy to jerusalem and the msu line the american empire says like sorry you know we don't know anything about it that was the old embassy and the old embassy can't do anymore so she had to start all over to get the the papers that she needs objective of prayer is to prevent difficulties now we should not get the feeling that hashem is standing over us trying to give us difficulty he's definitely not trying to do that the difficulties involved doing this to keep the world going good so that's another idea to keep the world going another idea maybe at the bottom of the list which is very important is to know that prayer gives you things that you need in this world to get what you want now everyone knows that of course you want something pray for it everyone knows that but well does everyone really know that so prayer is described by the gemara as hayesha means life the temporal life life in this world there is nothing that we see in the physical world nothing at all nothing at all that we see in the physical world anywhere that doesn't come as a result of a prayer you see a hospital somebody prayed in some form for that you see blades of grass someone prayed for that in some form every single thing that you see is in some form the result of a prayer in some way a person should never think oh yeah it happened automatically no no either you prayed for it your friends your family avraham avinu adam harishon but
