The Rav discusses the value and phenomenology of prayer, and in particular how it relates to geulah. He discusses the differences between a slave, who has no ability conceptualize their own needs and thus feel strong desire or suffering, and a free man, who can think about his own needs. He argues that prayer takes a man from slavery to freedom, in a process he calls geulah.
