Peretz Eichler Reporting Interviewing Drivers during Carpooling Drill

well right now at about uh 8:35 we're standing at Route 9 just south of uh rout rout 9 and 10 Street in Lakewood there are school buses that are pulling up behind us but as you can tell nobody's getting off them because nobody's taking the buses this morning and what's happening right now is that there's a drill it's being called a drill not a protest which is designed to show what might happen in September if the Board of Education decides to cut the bus service bus services that they're calling courtesy bus services that will affect thousands upon thousands of school children in both the non-public and public schools in lakew so as of now about 8:35 there are buses that are pulling up no kids are on them cars are starting to pull up it's pretty calm right now but it's expected to be pretty heic in a few minutes we're going to keep you closer this is par from M for the Laker SPO and front [Music] C again now we're looking at school buses that are uh that are virtually empty other than the drivers themselves coming from all parts of town because uh as mentioned during the drill this is meant to demonstrate what it would be like if there are no buses available traffic has not been too bad yet but it's starting to get bad okay watch okay this is day two of the drill the drill to see what would happen if uh in fact buses are not provided for the thousands of school children in Lakewood and parents that would have to take their kids to school we are now on uh on 9th Street between Clifton and Route 9 Madison Avenue Madison Avenue known as Route 9 is also a state highway and uh it's approaching 9:00 the point where uh school would be starting here in lakwood and cars are backing up here along 9th Street but very orderly very peaceful people behaving very courteously and uh you can see from here the lines of cars that are coming and here comes a school bus rounding the bend and it doesn't look like anybody's on the school bus and uh they've got a lane free to themselves making their way down they don't have to drop anybody off but as you can see down the road over there they're just cars piled up piled up hi how's it empty bus how's it going tell me time long trip over would you want to do this every day no on that can't get by look at 9th Street we can't move you got to get you got to get the video footage right now hi what do you think of the situation I'm driving from I I start 8:00 in the morning cuz I have five stops to drop off my kids I'm driving back Clifton Avenue is back is backed up from 88 all the way to count Line Road rout n is backed up from uh going from from cha prite all the way to uh 88 there a cop station over there and it's getting the nightmare is getting worse and worse yesterday I traveled down cross street cross street was backed up all the way from from uh Central Avenue all the way to James and Prospect going that direction it was was a basic a parking lot the other way I went from I was going from James to to Central cars was moving about a minute a mile was going very slow it's getting worse and worse could you see yourself doing this every day absolutely not uh bicycle is a great way to go but it would be little difficult to stack a group of kids on a bike every morning and take them to school but looks like some people were resorting to that morning how's it going man what do you think how's the traffic like this all the time it's like this all the time so you don't see any difference honestly no it's always b l okay there's a fellow who really doesn't see much of a difference he say it's just regular traffic in Lakewood well okay that's refreshing good morning good morning good morning good morning how's the traffic today uh today's much worse much worse could you pck yourself doing this every day definitely not okay what do you think we what do you think is the solution we definitely need busing like this since main like this stra since Main Avenue could you see you see yourself doing this every day never I'm going to move out of town well hopefully not hopefully you stle things will get better ohen thank you good morning morning how you doing how's traffic this morning duto much traffic yeah it's a lot of traffic huh traff okay have a good day comes a New Jersey Transit bus and they're stuck in traffic R good morning how are you good what's going on what do you think's going on I I don't know oh the township uh is not providing courtesy busing anymore so this is a a drill to show what it would look like if it was in busing I got stuck in it sorry can you Pi that's okay all right have a good day you too good morning good morning how's how's traffic traffic is right I have five children if I would send them to public school it would cost me 70 it would cost the pouch of $770,000 including the busing so what do ask me for the dropp in the bucket thank you
