Parshat Shemot “the one with the “names”

1 minute 1 minute please time thank you everyone please put down your pens and hands in your test thank you thank you well done great job thank you good job oh I'm sorry you're too late what gave you plenty of warnings about time you failed sorry excuse me do you do you know who I am I have absolutely no idea [Music] good what is up everybody this week we start the second book of the Torah which is called shimo which literally means names now that that's an unusual name right now the reason for this unusual name is well the first verse of the Torah portion starts with these are the names of the children of Israel but that doesn't make sense so what the first verse starts with the word names I mean when's the last time you named a book after the first or second word hey yeah well so we actually finished the book and now we're just looking for a name you know you have any ideas um well there's you could I love it I I love it I didn't say anything either well what a beautiful name well well well you need you need help well actually the name scho teaches us a very important lesson about the Jewish approach to the individual member of the community you see the second book of the Torah introduces us to the very first Jewish Community a new and Young Nation of Israel so technically that was the first Young Israel bro get help ASAP okay how in a very short period of time the relatively small family of Jacob transforms into a a nation yet despite this amazing growth the Torah reminds us not to forget that each individual has a name and must be recognized and respected and that maturing into a big Community shouldn't take away from that shimo names yes God literally knows each and every one of us by our name we should learn a little something from God remember guys We're a nation of names not numbers shabbat [Music] shalom oh
