Welcome to this week's Torah lesson.
This week's Torah portion is Parshas
Matos and Parshas Masai. The question of
the week is, where do we have the power
and the strength to get through exile?
So, this week's Torah portion, the
double Torah portion, Parshas Matos and
Masai, in the second Torah portion it
says, "Ayleh masei bnei Yisrael." This
is the traveling of the Jewish people
when they left Egypt and lists 42
encampments and traveling they did. And
it says, "Begad Moshe in the hand of
Moshe Rabbeinu." So, the question is,
why does the Torah tell us about all the
traveling they did? And B, why does it
say in the hand of Moshe Rabbeinu? The
whole Torah we received through Moshe
Rabbeinu. And the Rebbe explains and he
says, "Because we know the whole reason
why God created the world was to make a
dirah betachtonim, that God should dwell
in the lowest places." You know, it's in
the greatest darkness that's where God
wants to tell dwell. So, in the greatest
darkness, how do we have the power to
deal with the greatest darkness? So, the
Torah tells us, "Begad Moshe." Moshe
Rabbeinu
paved the way. Moshe Rabbeinu started
the process in the desert, in the
darkest places. He killed all the
sources of the impurity and because he
paved the way, that's how we have the
power to go through it.
And therefore, when a person is born
until you pass away, we have to go
through four Everyone has 42 journeys.
But the answer to the question, where do
you have the power and the energy to get
through exile? Because Moshe Rabbeinu
already paved the way. Our job is just
to continue it by learning Torah and
doing mitzvahs. We will make a dwelling
place for Hashem down here and we could
do it because Moshe Rabbeinu made it
easy for us. Thanks so much for joining
us for our weekly Torah lesson. This
week's Torah lesson is dedicated to the
memory of Baruch ben Aryeh Leib,
ben Yosef, Rochel bas Leib and Chana bas
Sarah, my father Reb Leib ben Reb
Nachman ben Tzvi Hertz. May their souls
be elevated by Torah we're studying in
their memory. For more information,
