as well as the OU Kosher app. Where, if you
had a question about any particular item,
there's a number of resources online that the
OU provides with instructions, and whether or
not something does or does not require to check,
as well as on how to check it. So there's that.
I mean, ones that are common that I think
people are aware of are various types of
lettuces and herbs like romaine lettuce or kale
or spinach, strawberries. I do think certain
items which people may not be aware of, is the
OU does not recommend checking blackberries
and raspberries due to the difficulty
involved. Especially in our restaurants.
But I'll tell you another fun innovation
aspect. I did some work with a CAT scanning
company where they specialize in the food and
beverage industry. So, for example, if you have
a pill that has different ingredients
blended in, they'll actually CAT scan it
and tell you how uniformly distributed the
different powders are inside as a service.
Whoa.
Yeah. So, after a few conversations I ended up
going down, and we did CAT scans on blackberries
and raspberries to see, conceptually, could you
scan a berry and check the inside of it and check
if there's any bugs or not, and it was really
cool. Like, you have like the whole 3D image, and
you could just like scroll through the whole berry
and just check it. It was pretty fascinating.
Is that a possibility or it's not
cost-effective, nobody would do it?
Well, the proof of concept failed.
Why is that?
Well, you know the common phrase, "you are what
you eat?" So, the density of these particular
bugs was literally the exact same density
as the berry. So, go figure. So it was too
faint to detect any difference in between the
layers when it was like literally in there. So,
on the surface level, it was amazing. You know, I
got some really cool videos and pictures of that.
