So, of course, the hottest news, in the world of
kosher at least, is about the status of beer. For
many years, the assumption was that beer is always
kosher Because beer was really just water, hops,
barley, yeast, all simple kosher ingredients.
But what has happened over the last years is
that there are many more ingredients being used
in making many different types of beers. And
even if you're buying what you would consider a
simple beer with the old-fashioned ingredients,
the beers that could have different
Kashrut concerns because of the ingredients
Clamato (includes clam juice), flavors, enzymes
are being made on the same equipment as the beer
that we might assume is simple. So, what has
happened is that the major kosher supervisory
agencies have joined together Because at
the end of the day, our primary concern,
our only concern is kosher, and we have informed
our Caterers and food service establishments that
as of January 1, we will be insisting that
the only beers that they may serve are beers
that have proper kosher supervision. We're
publicizing a list of those types of beers,
and we've found that there are already over a
thousand beers on that list, so you probably
could have a different beer every day for many
years and still get your beer consumption that you
need to have. And like that, we will be able to
continue raising the level of kosher supervision
and kosher products available to people, and
not rely on anything but what is 100% kosher.
