meter for the foole
sorry about Shaina Arona. Is she doing
any better?
>> A little bit very slow question.
>> So we uh we are in the beginning of
parash.
So over here the story is finally going
to get up to its crescendo
and
let's uh
let let's let's read let's be careful
let's see what takes place
and can no longer contain himself
and no one was there when Yoseph it's
interesting it's almost the word vidy
over here when Yoseph confesses
I presume he should add the word
identity he confesses his identity to
his brothers
and Yseph cries
and this cry is heard
the cry which is heard in Egypt and it's
heard in uh in parro's palace
yoseph
And says to his brothers,
so just with that initial statement that
I am Yoseph, is my father still alive?
The brothers, they could not respond.
And that one sentence we've spoken about
at length in the past. Then Yseph
continues because you know if they
couldn't speak till now so let's let's
uh well you'll decide what he does next
which sounds like an attempt to bring
them closer. Come close
they come close and he says
your brothers
who you sold. So again that is certainly
a very good way to uh to reconcile
but you should not be upset.
So now he doubles down on that. Don't be
upset that you sold me here
because in order to bring about
salvation life God has sent me here. So
the thing to notice over here is going
to be this interreationship between
Yoseph's communication with his brothers
on the one hand and his noting of divine
intervention on the other.
But we'll see which one he gives more
credence to as he continues.
For two years there has been famine.
Now there'll be another 5 years that
there won't be really any planting
plowing
agriculture
pay attention later on in the para if uh
if he tell if everyone knows this which
means the Egyptians year after year seem
to be involved in selling buying
whatever do they know that there's
another five years that which my point
is this may very well be a state secret
that Yoseph has shared you know uh there
are certain things about the economy.
There's certain inside information that
it's illegal to do business on that
inside. Unless of course you're a
senator or then uh
then apparently it's perfectly
justifiable
and so on.
And then he doubles down.
And notice again
again in order to get some kind of
salvation
and this is what's going to cause them
to be saved.
You're not the ones who sent me. So, so
this is just great which means they have
responsibility and they don't have
responsibility. Essentially, all the bad
that's taking place is their fault, but
all the good which is taking place is
God responsibility.
God put me
then that's a pretty good combination of
things.
One can call it as a as an adviser but
it's much more than that
as the master within his entire palace
and then functionally to be the ruler of
all of Egypt. Maharu hurry up and go up
to my father. Of course, notice the
should we be nice and not nice today?
The passive aggressive of saying my
father instead of our father. But I'm
I'm not going into that.
a love and say to him,
"Thus your son Yseph has said
you can keep count how many times he's
mentioned God in this speech that God
has placed me
is the master the ruler of Egypt.
Come quickly and don't you know don't
stand still hurry
which is interesting because Yseph's
giving orders to his father. is telling
him what to do
and you'll live sorry you'll live in the
land of go you'll be near me
you and your sons and your entire family
and all of your possessions and I will
take care of you financially
and again he tells this secret that
there'll be another five years of famine
again just to to avoid any kind of uh
unpleasantness of being
in a situation of starvation.
So, Yoseph gives his instructions. We
have this again interesting, really
interesting reconciliation. I mean, we
do know Yoseph holds all the cards and
it's completely up to Yoseph how to
dictate what's going to take place. And
the
the power that Yoseph has versus the
lack of power that they have, I think
should be obvious to all of us. Even
though even though
the midrashim love to talk about the
power of Yehuda, but that we talked
about last year, I believe. Yes. Yes.
And they go and they travel to Jacob.
the in this whole section the
interaction between and will be uh one
which will be difficult to uh really
understand but constantly goes back and
forth
and they tell him oh
is alive and he's the leader of all of
Egypt
by the way there's a certain parallel
over here between when they first hear
the news they also freeze in this spot
and we don't know they believe and don't
believe until he calls close over here
as well. When he hears it, there is this
freezing and as as it were and he
doesn't believe it. And then we get to
the next Puk and I'll just tell you
already now to so we so we'll all know
even though I'm going to dance all
around it and go in all kinds of
different directions or we'll do
multiple dances if you will and uh
you'll tell us afterwards which dance it
was and uh but it's this
is what interests us
and they tell over all the things that
Yseph had said which he said to them
and then Jacob sees the wagons
that Yseph had sent to bring him back
and the spirit of Jacob then returns
and Israel says I said that's the shift
is
Yseph my son Yseph is indeed alive
I'm going to go and see him before I die
so
what exactly happened in that verse and
how the shift takes place between the
disbelief to the belief is really what I
want to get to. And in order to get to
that, we're going to look at at the
various mafim who are channeling the
various midrashim. And then eventually I
want to get back to uh what may be shot
staring at us, but sometimes when
something stares at at you, you don't
know exactly what it is. Kind of like
Yseph could be in the room with you a
whole bunch of times and you don't know
that that's your brother. over here the
shock could have been staring at us the
whole time and nonetheless we didn't
realize what we were saying the the this
continues into what is for us at least
source two in the next chapter and again
the shift is
and again the the name Israel our
tendency is to believe it's more on the
national level which means that it and
again reiterating it never says that
Yakov loved Yoseph it says Israel loved
Yoseph which means Israel sees the
rational need of a person like Yoseph
and it's Israel who again really uh
let's just go back to that verse again
it's that it's this is aspect that
realizes he's still alive
and he brings offerings now remember
specifically traveled in the same
direction when there was a famine and
God told him don't
So now Yoseph had told him to go and he
starts to travel there and then he
brings offerings because you know where
his heart is. You know what he wants to
do and now God appears and and we'll
note just in the interim that God has
appeared to YaKob numerous times. But
it's interesting because he appears to
him when he leaves Israel the first
time. He appears to him either through
again a dream, angels, whatever, when
it's time to come back, when he's on his
way back, when he comes back and but for
all these years that Yseph has been
gone, we don't have any communication
between God and uh and YaKob, which is
actually going to help some of the
commentaries to tell us something even
though they don't point that out. I
mean, that's just you need to notice
that. And now God does speak
again to Israel.
So again this shift back and forth as I
said is it's like impossible.
Don't be afraid to go down
because there is this purpose in your
traveling and that is that you can
become a great nation there
and I will go down with you
and I'm going to bring you up as well.
And is going to close your eyes. Okay?
And that is either something terrible or
something wonderful. But I guess for
there's something comforting about that
and so on and so forth. And they take
Okay, this is important.
which is almost an inverse of the
description when Jacob sorry when
Abraham travels right
and all the things that he owns goes
from
totanan and now we have Yakov packing
everything up from Eritkan and moving to
Egypt so I'm saying there there is this
other thing which is taking place or
this larger picture which is taking
place and it's really the background I
keep saying this the background of this
entire narrative the starting story of
everything Yseph says I think and
everything Yoseph believes is that Yseph
apparently knows all about the Britain
and now it's time for the next chapter
to take place
But I told you the verse which concerns
me is what exactly took place in per
invar
and we should have been anticipating
this and Rashi is going to get there as
well in case it sounds familiar to you.
The tarum writes
and he tells over all of the words of
Yseph. Again, we want to know exactly
which words were said because it's a
little more problematic than perhaps
we're taking into consideration
if he sees the the wagons that were sent
to bring them.
So while the PK said
that
the understands what is the ruesh
so as I said that Jacob during all these
years did not have prophecy and now the
prophecy has returned
and that's the target is pointing on and
the target is even better because it
writes
but it but it gets more specific
We can read the Hebrew in source six
that when exactly does
lose his and by the way I would like to
believe that Yakov's
is connected to uh his role as a Nav'i
his role as a patriarch and his role as
a leader and it's a Klal Israel need and
therefore for the moment Yoseph isn't
there there's something lacking in Klra
for For the moment Yoseph isn't there,
Jacob does not have his kakodes and and
if you will there are those who will
nuance this and say that we learn from
this and then there's sources to support
this that Nouvo is connected to to joy
and to happiness and therefore the whole
time that his heart is full of sadness
he's unable to prophesize. I mean the
question to ask on that is all of those
difficult nuote that we have in Na'vi
the ones of the ones of doom. So I don't
know exactly how one could say
exclusively that NAVO only comes out of
joy and celebration but as I said that's
what some that's what some try to say
over here but I'm I'm not completely
comfortable but what we do see is an
interesting thing that he's taking it
right back to Yoseph
is when Yakov loses his Yoseph but he
also loses his new and by the way that
that dual loss is something which
probably impacts upon P Yakov incredibly
because again it's one thing to lose a
son which is completely you know again
completely overwhelming on an emotional
personal level but it's another thing
when God says or doesn't say just stops
communicating
lack of communication so you can imagine
what Yakob's emotional state would have
been then having lost the son on the one
hand then having lost again a part of
this relationship with God on the other
you know again I'm sure God could have
said things like was over here which are
comforting things. Don't worry, it'll be
okay and I'll take I'm going to be with
you and so on and so forth and even to
bad just imagine that Yakob gets this.
Then don't worry, no Yseph's going to
come back into the story. Ysef will be
there and he's going to hold your hands
when you pass on to the next world. As I
said, there could be something very
comforting about that. But just realize
there are these years of silence and
everything that you're going to read
next week about Jacob loses his rural
Kakodes again. So then tap it you know
right back onto this uh experience over
here rashi goes again in the same
general direction source seven is called
simma
there was a sign over here that was
given
he sent to I don't know how
literally or how didactic I should be in
taking this I'll explain to you in a
moment that it has to do with the parad
elarufa now what rashi is telling It's
based on the midrash that yo that he
looks up and he sees the agalote agalot
means wagons and he sees the wagons and
he says oh the last thing that they were
learning together was the section of
eglarufa and by the way that itself is
interesting because what's eggla roofa
eglar roofa is the section what happens
when you find a uh a dead body along the
way which is a little bit of an ironic
teaching especi you know there's this
idea the garra tells us that when you
leave somebody you should leave right on
on so Which should he teach him on the
way out? Oh yeah, by the way, you know,
as you're traveling by yourself, if you
happen upon a dead body or perhaps you
become a dead body along the way, there
is this idea of mate mitzvah. Part of
what you do with this is you measure the
closest city in order to try to
ascertain who has moral responsibility
for this. So uh to send back this
message, oh yeah, this is what we were
learning before and eglarfa also could
be again a a deeper message and I've
measured carefully and you have no
responsibility in this again to because
again imagine all those years of Jacob I
sent it by himself but by the way
there's a whole another level to this if
he's really teaching
because he's worried
and therefore has to give a sim why do
you have to give a sim
again that this is why I'm saying maybe
I'm being a little bit too literal here
that he that that he sends them back a
Siman. This is what we're learning in
order that they'll have a Siman to be
able to communicate. But why should they
need a Siman? Is he worried that he's
sending him over there? So So if he's
worried that he's sending him to the
brothers, there's some kind of uh
jealousy or hatred and maybe he's not
going to come back. Okay? So then it
becomes remarkable that he sends him the
first place. By the way, I I think
everything I'm saying now is wrong. So
don't don't don't worry too much. I'm
just saying maybe I'm taking this a
little bit too far. But he says, Agal
shal by the way um if you go back to the
verses I skipped over here in between in
the in peric me it wasn't actually
Yoseph who sent the load it was parro
parro is the one who says take a load
and then bring them and send them to
your father so it's be very careful it
says that looks up I want to go back to
theseto
though. So uh again he sees what Yoseph
has sent. So that already triggers
something within him. So Rashi saying oh
it's parl
and
so so Rashi knows what the gre had said
before but he's interpreting that Yseph
sent it because it's a sign from Yseph
and therefore he knows that it's
again this spirit this comes back. Can
can I just point out that Rashi is
working really hard?
>> No, I'm I'm I'm saying that that that
that he's working really hard. It's very
elaborate to try to explain what is
taking place over here. And if you
realize that, then very good. The
Rashbam is going to use a little bit of
what we will call interextuality.
You can call it whatever you want. You
like that? You don't like it? Why? I
don't I don't think
I think those
>> I I I I understand that you're
they just ended up
>> I I I understand and that's why I'm
saying I'm I'm with you. But let's
continue with with the rash. I'm going
to come back to signs in a second.
The rash in source 8 it's called
all the things that were said before. I
hope you all realize that if he told
them all the things from before, there's
a problem. If you don't realize the
problem yet, just wait a second. And um
and but he but it's interesting where he
starts
which means he cries and again we're
certain that it's him. So they they tell
all these things.
You notice again the Rashbam knows it's
alo but the says he sees what Yseph sent
but it was alo but
why he writes
because he guarded this leote
that not only is there a state secret
over here in terms of the information
there's also advanced technology that
you don't share with other countries the
advanc advanced technology are the
wagons. The wagons over here are
actually going to morph eventually into
all of those wonderful tank-like
again it goes back to the wheel and it
goes back to the wagons and it goes back
then to the wagons that parro is going
to have that going chase bin Israel
afterwards but he's point he's noting
that the wagons don't go traveling in
other places by themselves and there's
something a little bit you know just
seeing that you realize that somebody of
significance had to have signed off on
this because he can't just go and export
this type of technology by itself. But
he but he says as I've noted noted
earlier so I'm just going to point out
the word over here which the rashbam is
most interesting interested in is shamar
and the rashbam does this as well by
shamarat
hold on that for a second but I'll show
you what he's referring to directly but
he uses this in multiple places in
source number nine it says
this is after Yseph tells over the
second dream he tells over the dream And
everyone gets upset, gets jealous and
hatred and so on. And his father
chastises him. But then it says
Rashi says
Shamar means that you wait in
anticipation
which has in the he has a piece where he
talks about Shabbat. If those you you
know or recall remember of Salvich
there's a footnote in Alachub. talks
about the Jews in Europe who had not
just was shown Shabbat but they were
people who f it was the Friday as well.
Friday was not a regular day of the
week. It was a Friday was already on the
cusp of Shabbat. And I think in you feel
this in uh in many in many places.
>> No no no no you should go to the shook
on Friday. It's not the sh it's not
>> crazy.
>> So you should be crazier. It's uh it's
not the shook on Tuesday. There's
there's a different ambiance, there's a
different feeling, there's air of
Shabbat. So, Rav Hutner writes about
this and he talks about how you need to
approach Shabbat with anticipation. And
it's one of the few places that it has
the word in English. It says
anticipation. And that's what Rashi
writes over here. But this is what the
rashbam also does by Shabbat that you
should anticipate the coming of the
Shabbat as well. And and it's something
the the hol holiness does doesn't
happen. Holiness needs to be worked upon
and then you have to create the
atmosphere for it. But the here says
the rashbam is taking that verse
this is even though you don't like inter
textuality this is exactly what he's
doing he's bringing it right back into
our discussion and he's saying is that
when he receives the message he didn't
believe him and by the way that's our
whole concern today I keep telling you
back what shifted what took place that
now he believes
can what else does he know that parro
had sent it? I mean that that's what the
editor knows. That's what the observer
knows. Jacob may have thought something
else.
As it says that
he says that he realized that these can
only be sent based upon leadership. And
therefore he's been waiting and waiting
and waiting for this dream to come true.
And now he realizes remember what the
brothers say right away.
And what is the evidence? Yes, the
evidence is the and at that point what
is not it's not just that Jacob
according to the Rashbam then believes
that Yseph is alive. It's much more than
that. Not just that Yoseph is alive.
Yoseph who all the dreams have come to
fruition is alive. Yseph the Moshelle of
Egypt is alive. And he's been waiting
for this day. Again maybe he thought
that he's dead but he's been waiting for
this day. you know, we could wait for
impossible things and and he says that
that's the dynamic according to the rush
bomb. But go back to my point about that
he said over all of these things again.
Do you need me to read the verse one
more time for you or even the two verses
to realize the difficulty in
source one? It says
they give him the information and Jacob
doesn't believe it.
Now,
Rashi led us to believe that it was the
second part of the P. Everything they
say, all their words are meaningless.
Then he looks up and he sees the
technology.
But the question is, is that really what
happened? Because in the first verse
they he say they say give information
and they say that Ysef is alive. And in
this next verse they tell all the words
of Yoseph.
So did something then get added? Now all
the worlds words of Yoseph I keep saying
are problematic. If you go back and you
look at what Yseph says initially
right that's the first the next verse he
says right come close
I'm sold to Egypt. Did they mention that
right away? Was that their message? goes
do they say Yoseph? Now you realize the
problem. How in the world do they say
all the words of Yoseph? Now the one who
picks up on this is the Ramban.
And if you look at the Ramban in source
number 12
again, he doesn't want to talk about the
the technology and he doesn't want to
talk about the signs and the
shal
cannot believe that they that they ever
mentioned. Oh yeah, by the way, you
know, we sold him, you know, we got into
this little thing with Yoseph and uh
because they were terrified that Jacob
would be angry and curse them because
as he eventually does by the so-called
by at least some of the tribes Yseph and
I love this part again think a second
and whose interest was it to tell Yakov
about the sale it wasn't in the interest
of the brothers Yoseph we can discuss
politically if it was a good idea bad
idea but I love the way the Ramban
frames it
litig low Yseph because of his refined
character did not want to say what
happened which means this is a very
different Yoseph the one that we
remember is going telling over what all
the brothers did and now we find Yseph
has again refined character is what the
way the Ramban is reading this so he's
again he's he's commenting on Yoseph and
what's he saying
Yoseph can't be Yoseph it it co cold
cannot mean everything right by the way
the Rambam in various places. I already
tell you the word cold does not mean
every
means it
when when he says that uh that rebua and
all the rabbis of the generation
believed Bara we know from the wasn't
all the rabbis it was most co means most
and and and he does this in a number of
times I'll just leave it but over here
as well doesn't mean cold debrio it
means a lot of driese which is very
funny about the as of Jacob co and royal
continue
right
I mean they would have terri I mean that
would have the whole family would have
fallen apart that that's really his
point it just can't be that he told so
how many of these other commentaries do
we need to see how much time do we
actually have
sworno go focuses on the five years the
state secrets That's in 13. The alch
points at a number of other hints that
we're coming across in this message.
This in source 16 uses tomutic principle
that whoever put this together worked
very hard. Right? All of these uh wagons
full of food and stuff. This is an
elaborate scheme. People don't go
through elaborate schemes unless it's
real. which means just by looking at all
the effort that was put into this he
realizes that Ysef must be alive and
again it's based upon a gamarra you can
call it an um if you want and I think
that that may be enough just regarding
going back to the the idea of the siman
and who may have sent the siman and was
this a deliberate on Yakov's part or not
I'll just note that we have one maybe
two other times that we find sim and
this is all madrashik it's not uh in the
text itself and my point is the sim
never work out that That that's the
point in 18
which is also interesting because you go
back to the I think it was who had said
don't trust my father and uh and so it's
interesting that gave my name.
So therefore, when you don't trust
somebody and then you give CM, which
means it goes back to like having a
contract. If you can't trust somebody,
you need a contract. Don't write a
contract and don't do business with
them. Why? Because if you need a
contract, the contract is not going to
end up helping you at the end of the
day. Yes. No.
>> Yes. We we
>> 100%.
You going to charge me for this legal
advice?
>> Tamar
Tamar. Tamar is interesting. But with
Yakov, but with Yakov, the other case it
according to the beta levy that Asov
gave a simit because he didn't trust
Yakov and then he spoke in Yakov's voice
and then Yak then says ah look it worked
Yakov but again this don't seem to work.
Okay, Tamar is good. Yes,
>> can just turn things around. Yeah.
>> I mean the flexing thing here
was
and the news that the brothers take back
that
Joseph is alive
could could be.
>> Oh for sure. So Clint's taking a big
chance here and then wanted his dream to
look his father would come from
it but surely it's a big bigger thing is
you know he should actually respect your
father and he could have gone to take
your absence from there you know for a
few weeks and gone up there and come
back
>> okay
>> that's part of getting
>> correct because you're making certain
assumptions and the question is are
those assumptions correct First of all,
every assumption you made is defendable.
I can find you commentaries who will
support you along the way, but I I don't
necessarily accept any of those
assumptions. And I I'll I'll go point by
point if you like. One is your starting
point that Jacob is an elderly man.
Good. Correct. Correct. That's not
that's not simple. Yoseph stated purpose
here all all the way was for his
father's welfare. He says, "There is a
famine. Come here where I can take care
of you. I want you to be near me so I
can keep my eyes on you and make sure
that you are taken care of. He he says
nothing about the dreams. He says
nothing. I want you to come and bow down
to me. So therefore to read that into
Yoseph's motivation is actually quite
mean. I don't I I'm not accusing you of
this. I know which commentaries you saw
or were told to you that say that and I
would love them to defend it actually in
terms of the text. The other second part
of it is really the larger question that
all the people who ask the question why
doesn't Yoseph just how much how much
freedom does Yoseph have? Yseph has to
work really hard in order to be able to
bury his father later on in order to be
able to go to the funeral and to
arranges to get permission to go and it
doesn't seem to be a given that Yoseph
can do anything and everything that he
wants. So I'm saying that assumption oh
why does he just go and take a leave of
absence could be parro doesn't give
leaves leaves of
it could be that parro even though yseph
is in charge of everything it doesn't
mean that he can do anything and there
and therefore
let's not again let's not
cast upon yoseph these kinds of
motivations which are not supported by
the text and let's not assume that
yoseph has ability which are not
supported by the text and actually this
contra indications to both of that. So I
said you you all the questions are based
upon the premise that you have that
Yseph could do anything and there Yoseph
wanted him to bow down and that's what
Yseph is doing here. I I I just don't
see any of that. So let's continue
because I'm going to try to defend
Yoseph's reputation a little bit more as
we uh as as we proceed.
So, as I said, I think there's something
else going on, and we're going to spend
the rest of time today trying to figure
that out. And we're going to push all
the other commentaries to the side for
the moment. And actually, what I'm going
to try to do is is is very much based
upon the silkim. Um, most of this what
I'm saying now is based upon last week,
two weeks ago. And uh I actually spoke
about it on Shabbat and then as I
started by I started you know
and then I got to the first p and I got
to the target and I said oh look he
supports everything that I wanted to
say. So uh you know if you're already
you don't want to listen to anything
else I want I'm going to say now you
just want to okay close the book and go
on and look and see what the tarum says.
I didn't tell you which tarum it is. So
let's continue.
there.
When Yoseph started to speak to the
brothers, let's just go back to the
point of Revelation. We noticed that
Yoseph spoke of God once and twice and
three and four times. And maybe we read
it wrong and we see Yoseph being very
self-righteous and God is with me and so
on and and and so forth. But I believe
that Yoseph's,
again, we'll turn to the writers in the
room to help. It's Yoseph's God speak,
but it's not just the God speak. It's
Yoseph's God consciousness, which is the
key to understanding all of this. And uh
allow me to continue a little bit. We we
first notice it when Yoseph enters into
the house of Potifar and Mrs. Potifar,
hits on Yoseph, and he says no. He
repeatedly says no. But he says
something else as well which again we're
going to use the Torah itself to
interpret. Yoseph in source 19 says
again how could I be how can I do this
after I've been treated nicely from your
husband? How can I mistreat him?
But then he continues two more words.
But his first point is that it would be
it would be wrong morally in terms of my
relationship with the husband. He
treated me nice. I can't mistreat him.
But then he adds two words
and this would be a sin against God. So
I don't know. I don't know if any of us
know or can know. Did Yoseph know his
Bible stories? Which means as a little
kid did he was he taught Kish
and Rashi? Did the which means if you go
back to the episode of Aimelik when Avi
takes Sarah in source 21 where sorry in
source 20 where Avi finally questions
Abraham how can you say is your sister
and so on
what did you see what's your outlook
what's your
there's that there is no fear of God in
this place. In essence, what is Yoseph
saying is that I fear God. Which means I
would love to imagine that Yoseph as a
kid, he learned with his father and his
father did teach him and forget just
teaching him Eglar Rufa. You realize
it's far more likely that he taught him
the stories of uh of Av and of Yitzk and
things that had happened in the past
rather than laws which are in the
future. Although some of you know that I
do have a fascination of uh of
connecting things in Dvarim and Bidbar
back with Beset which never we're going
to do more of. But does Yakob does Yak
sorry does Yseph know the story? Has
Yseph heard this? And is Yoseph now
channeling again better than a cold
shower is to say that this is not the
morality which I have received from my
father by the way. Now take that as
Khazal saying he sees the image of his
father. Of course, it's the image of his
father teaching him that this is not how
we act. This is not what we do. The
ain't no we have.
So my point is that Yoseph in the middle
of this pagan country in this pagan
palace with this woman who is hitting on
him, Yoseph speaks of God. The next time
we find, of course, because of this,
he's thrown into prison. And in a and in
a in a dungeon in the middle of Egypt
when the stewards have their dreams,
Yoseph again says in source 21
petro
God has the solutions. So Yoseph speaks
of God. This is not for the camera. This
is not you know in order to get on the
public record that Yoseph is speaking.
the these are these private conversation
that Yoseph has and and again maybe the
most impressive one is when he finally
does meet with parro which could be
completely unpolitic to be speaking of a
monotheistic god in front of a person
who's part of a polotheistic
system and Yoseph stands up nonetheless
you can look
>> so if you look at source 22 too.
Again, God will do this.
Meaning how many times in one
conversation over here but this is
Yoseph. Yoseph speaks of God. Yseph
again you want to call it God speak you
want to call it God consciousness. This
is the authentic Yoseph. Now
therefore when we get to our section
when Yoseph is speaking about God
constantly in his reveal to his brothers
that should not come as a big surprise
but there's something else which is
happening. And again, I I just want to
chart this and now go in order. It
eventually works so well that it gets
parro to speak that way. And that's the
most surprising still in source 22
which means even again and the is
interesting especially with Yakov's
spirit coming back and so on. And the
tarum here again does speak about nuvoa
that look there's somebody here who was
prophecy
in source 23 is when yseph does meet up
with the brothers and again what is said
what isn't said is interesting but the
you know very quickly the situation
deteriorates and then yoseph challenges
them and he's looking for something and
I'm not going to go through all the
negotiations. I do love the way that he
swears inv 23 They knew right by the
life of parro I love that right probably
a lot of people sounds significant but
you know you swear by something you went
to sacrifice he he does it again in the
paro and again he swears by parro and
then he puts them in prison for three
days and he's trying to take them
someplace
again certainly emotionally religiously
If you want to live, there's you need to
do
what does Yseph say?
Which means now, do they know their
Bible stories? Which means again, this
is the m this is the rebuke that A had
given to the king of his day in his time
to Abi, right? There's no fear of God in
this place. And Yseph now looks at them
and says, "There is fear of God over
here." and they probably don't even know
what to do with this, but I I do want to
read their response. And he then tells
them, you know, if you're going to be
honest, this is what you do. You leave
your brother here and the rest of you
go. And if there is fear of God in this
place, what else does that tell you?
That tells you there's justice. Is
justice. It's fear. You do what's right.
You do what's based on God's word.
But we're guilty. You've heard our
brother's cry. We saw the pain that he
was experiencing when he begged us and
we refused to listen and that's why all
this is happening. By the way, there's
so many elements over here which are
connected to chuva. There's only one
thing which is missing and what's that?
God.
There's no God in in there. And then Ruv
continues.
Hello.
So I don't know what to say. Are they is
it implicit that they're saying well
look what God has done to this. Well if
God has done to us and if they are
saying that so there's only one word
which is missing and I and I do wonder
what would have happened if they would
have thrown God into this conversation
as well but they don't. Is this karma?
Is this uh again what what is it? But
they don't speak of God in this
situation. Especially when Yseph just
took them there and Yseph does speak of
God. But but but it's scary because the
God that Yseph spoke of is right.
You need to do the right thing. And over
here you have a group of people who have
not done the right thing. And that that
leads us in a certain place. Yseph of
course puts the money back in the bags
and and sends them along the way. And
it's there where they run into the
trouble
in
after again this is when they're
traveling the way they see that the his
money is in the bag.
You can track you can track all the
heart movements
taking place in all the section from
Pyro's heart beating to Jacob's Yoseph's
brothers
they were terrified
lanu what is this that God and here they
speak of God by the way this is the
first time that we hear any of the
brothers mentioning God by this point
Yoseph has mentioned God so many times
but this is the first time we find the
brothers doing it of course it's out of
ear Ishot of Yoseph and he also O wonder
after the first one opens his bag and
finds the money there, why don't all the
other ones open their bags and say,
"Hold it, maybe something's going on
over here." But but they're in trouble
and only later on when they get back and
they all empty their bags and they all
find their money and that's the last
and they're full of fear. They're full
of fear. By the way, doesn't what word
is missing?
And they're they're afraid. Again, I'm
just pointing out again, if you're going
to keep follow the God quotient, Yoseph
is full of it of God all the time. He
speaks of it and the brothers just come
so close. Um, I skipped to the next
viru. I hope you like that in source 24.
And what has happened? They finally
travel back to Egypt and they bring
Binyaman with them and they want to try
to get Shimon out of prison. They want
to get more food and they want to close
this chapter of their lives and move on.
But what has happened? They were
summoned to come to Yoseph's house and
they're frightened again that that just
hope you don't miss the connection.
They're frightened all the money and now
they're frightened because they have to
explain all the money
and they say, "Okay, they know it's
connected to the money."
And now what is their great fear
that these people, they want to rob us.
They want to take us. They they want to
make us into slaves. By the way, just
think about all the things they did to
Yoseph. They're afraid that this could
happen to them. If you get worried about
karma, so then you shouldn't be worried
about that because but it's interesting
and it's also interesting for another
reason. What else is missing over here?
It's what they want to do. But what are
they missing over here? You know, what
do they deserve? What are they missing?
They're missing talking about God. But
God's about to enter into the
conversation in a way that I want you to
uh at least be concerned about.
Definitely to be compared to
they come close.
And they speak to him and means soft
speaking.
Please
look for food.
By the way, even when they're trying,
they're all lying right now because it's
not when they found out. Only one of
them found out at this point. As I just
noted in the last chapter, they say,
"Okay, they don't want to be too
complicated. We all stopped by the
hotel. We opened our bags and all the
money was there. By the way, there is a
question then. So why don't you turn
around and come back right then and give
the money back, right?
Right. And we brought more money back.
And what does the guy answer?
Don't be afraid.
And the guy says to them, "No, don't be
afraid. The money came to me." I'm
saying it out of sequence. And your God
has given you a gift, a treasure. You
found a treasure. Now, should they at
this point be calm and collected and
say, "Oh, of course, our God gave us
this because who is more deserving,
right? You want to channel your inner
hmon right now? Who is more deserving of
receiving rewards and honor and
treasures and money than we are?
Or if you really believe in midadin, you
really believe in elim right where God
has found our right. What it goes down
to what are we deserving? They're not
deserving to receive reward. What are
they deserving?
To receive punishment, but it's
fascinating that they're willing to
accept this as an answer, which means
they were frightened and now they're
okay. Well, Shimon was taken out and
everything should be okay. And and then
they're told to come in and to dine with
Yoseph. By the way, I can ask the same
thing again. Are they deserving to dine
with Yoseph? Are they deserving to be,
you know, to to have this wonderful
state dinner for them and so on and so
forth? Here are these wonderful people.
Like, what did you do to deserve them?
Oh, we we return the money that we
stole. I mean, again, just think about
this. If there's anyone who's
undeserving, it's them, but they kind of
get convinced. And and and all of this
should be, I think, part of a setup. And
the setup is Yoseph is Yokohim.
Are they Yokohim? Is it is Elohim again?
Especially Miden is this part of their
inner consciousness. Anyway,
let us uh let us continue over here
because they seem to accept this. And at
this point, it it's funny because then
when they leave, what's funny is that we
all remember that he instructs to put
the cup in Byammen's bag. Do you
remember that he instructs them to put
all the money back in the bag on all the
bags as well? Yes, remember that. I
mean, it's it says it. So, it's not just
the cop. And you know what? If I were
them by this point, I'd be a little more
careful. I'd check my bag before.
You know, you just now arrested and he
served, you know, time for drug
smuggling. And you claim he didn't do
it. You were just an unknown, right? A
mule, right? You don't know that. Okay,
we won't get into that. And uh and it
say source 25.
put all the money back
and so on and so forth. And then Yseph
sends this fellow to running after them
and he tells them exactly what to say.
And again, Yseph
is being a ventriloquist. He's telling
the guy exactly what to say.
Why are you repaying the kindness that
was done
right with something bad? But and by the
way, they just now experienced the
opposite. They received something good
despite having acted bad. Which means if
you believe in justice then they should
have been very very worried. You know,
there's a certain midrashic undertone
when Ara after he wins the war of the
four kings and the five kings that he's
worried that maybe he's uh has expended
all of uh the good faith that he has
with God. And again, there's a midash.
They should be very worried at this
point ju just because of their whole,
you know, they've done a couple things
along the way. Yes. Do do I need to I
mean, if I say all the things they've
done, I'll sound like the UN. So I I I I
don't I don't want to give the uh I
don't want to give the entire list. I
see. I don't know. Okay.
But this question about your lack of
doing what is right in the face of you
know doing wrong in the face of right.
But but he but then he tells him to say
another thing as well. Let's just
continue.
that the cup which my master uses that's
what he uses for divination. Now this
should come as a jolt. Why? Because the
whole time Yseph has presented himself
as somebody who sounds very much a like
a monotheist
and b he sounds like somebody who's
fair.
And now this guy is saying, but that's
the cup that he uses for divination.
Divination is part of the occult. It's
part of a world of superstition. It's
part of a world that runs in a very,
very, very different way. And that's
what they're told. Now, now the question
is why is Yseph doing this? And and as
you continue, right,
and he says over these things, by the
way, again, we have these things being
said, right? going back to,
you know, we had another time that we
had something similar to this is when uh
when YaKob gets to love on going right
back to that same place where our
supposed perhaps when YaKob gets to love
and it says that he tells over all of
the things that had happened. So again,
which things did he tell? Did he tell
how he stole the bra from Asov? Did he
tell how he took the the rock off of the
well? Did he tell how he kissed his
daughter before the first date? like
like like which which which yes I had to
yes I had to add that in wh which things
is it that that he said so you kind of
think that it'd be a little bit
selective and over here as well it's not
selective he tells over exactly what y
because again with ysef it's all with
precision so he tells this guy tells
exactly and let's just continue
we would never do a like this except for
last time. And then they say
that last time it happened to us, we
returned it. But by the way, they should
just stop speaking.
How could we do this?
And if you find it in someone's bag,
they should be put to death, which is
again completely absurd.
And we will be slaves. Again, the thing
that they were worried about the not
that long ago, they were worried about
that. Oh, they're trying to take our
money and they want to take our dunkeys
and they want to turn us into slaves and
now they're saying, "Please turn us into
slaves." So, you you you realize that
there's at least some guilt over here.
And he continues, says, "No, no, just
he'll be a slave there." So, he goes
free and so on. Again, I'm not getting
to all of this, but they get in front of
Yoseph first persecute gimmel
and now they tear ka.
There's still something missing. You
know that, right?
And they go
and they come
and they all bow down.
I am a man who's full of divination. And
suddenly Yseph has revealed his great.
Again, you want more state secrets, but
this is a lie. I mean, what's the truth?
The truth is what Yseph had said from
the beginning. God has revealed to
parro. What's the truth? Para discerns
that Yoseph has navir. What's the truth?
That Yoseph sees the hands of God in
everything. And now Yoseph is saying,
"Yeah, but I'm a Don't you know that I'm
a person who practices the occult and
divination?" Again, the it's a short
skip and a step to a
causes a response in Yehuda.
God has found our sins. Now, this is
incredibly important because Yseph just
now did something. And once you
understand this, we can then get back to
where we started and uh and hopefully
understand what happened.
Yoseph's belief in God.
You know what? I'll be fair.
We don't find Yoseph speaking about God
until he gets to Potifier's house. My
suspicion is that Yoseph already in the
pit who's screaming. Yoseph already
knows then to pray because that's when
you pray. And Yoseph prays there. And
Yoseph prays in the house of parro. And
Yoseph prays in the prison. And Yseph
Yoseph's God consciousness. And Yoseph
realizes that the brothers will not get
to the point of prayer unless they have
nothing else to believe in and nothing
else to rely on. Which means there's
even some comfort in knowing that the
legal system in this country is a fair
legal system. I'll trust the courts. The
courts will be okay. They're not going
to be able to prove that we took it and
so on and so forth. There's there's some
But once Yos and Yoseph is a fair
leader, Yoseph is zero. But once Yseph
pulls that from under them, they have
nothing else to believe in. Which means
Yoseph in a certain sense has put them
right back in the pit. Now, which by the
way, he did when he puts that puts them
all in prison for 3 days. Yseph, but but
they had hope. They come out of it. I
fear God. So get again they get this
real hope of force. So Yseph is trying
again Yseph's ventriloquism. He got his
guy to say what he wants but he wants
them to say something as well. And what
does he want them to say? He wants God
to be part of the conversation. Can we
now go back to where we began and
realize exactly what it was that took
place? Yoseph when he reveals himself to
the brothers, what does he say to them?
He says, "Yes, he says that you sold
me." But what else does he say?
He speaks about God in multiple times.
Right? Right?
When he tells him to go to his father,
what exactly does he say? Look at
this is what they need to say.
What are they supposed to say? God has
placed me in charge of Egypt. And then
he says, "And what do they say when they
get there?"
What does mean?
What did they leave out? God.
>> And it's a quote. It says Lemore, quote,
they left out God. But Yogibo and Yas
Jacob's heart goes out. Why? It's two
possibilities. Either it's not Yoseph or
it's not Yoseph.
Either it's not Yoseph because Yseph
doesn't speak that way. That's not the
Yoseph.
And it's somebody else. Or Yoseph is no
longer Yoseph. But And what does he then
say? He doesn't believe them because
that's not Yoseph. He knows Yoseph. If
he knows Yoseph better than any of them
know Yoseph and what does the next say
but de Bruy love it's cold Yoseph what
did they add that they didn't say before
>> what they had left out what did they
leave out now they say and it say okay
let let us go back a second again Yoseph
speaks with precision and now what do
they say the second time it's cold no
they don't talk about what do they say
exactly what Yseph had told them to say
what is it again just just read the
words that's what I'm saying the is
staring staring at you over here. What
is it that he says?
This is what you need to say precisely
God placed me there. So when they come
back and now they say cold Yoseph that
Yoseph said God has placed him over
Egypt. At that moment what does it say?
Then he looks up and he sees the agalot
right just continue
again.
Now just think about the the cause and
the effect. The effect is that Jacob's
rural kakodes comes back. Now, why
should his rural Kodish come back? Which
way I can ask very simply, who brought
God into the room? What's the answer?
Yoseph. How did Yoseph bring God into
the room? Because that's what Yseph
brings into every room. So, it's Yoseph
speaking about God is what brings the
Ruesh back. Now, I told you that I found
a taragum which uh which just completely
clinched it for me and that is on the
words.
source 29
right
he comes close and he says you again
the we'll read the Hebrew in 31
Don't get upset
that you kept on talking about
and now
and now you're talking like parro again.
You're talking like a pagan again. which
means this disconnect which I which
again I noticed just by going through
all of the talk of Yoseph when he starts
talking about Nikush Yehuda is saying
you know what happened to you you you
were talking about God but that's
exactly the point Yseph is doing this
deliberately from having spoken about
God now he's talking about the occult
and that and that jolts them that shocks
them because that takes away their hope
because somebody who speaks about the
occult again the English here is great
it is from Hashem that I stand at all
you you talked about God what happened
to that guy who kept saying that you
fear God. Where did that guy go? But
that is part of the uh of what moves the
brothers to be able to speak about God
themselves is because I'm going to say
it's Yosephriloquism. Yoseph is he tells
people exactly what to say with
precision. And he causes be he caused
parro to speak about God, right? He
causes right he causes the brothers to
speak about God and he causes Yakov to
have this feeling of God and through the
all of this is Yoseph's fingerprints at
every single point along the way and as
I said once you see this you realize
that this is actually the insukim over
here I'm sorry I know I I insist that
what I'm saying is but you realize this
is and I was delighted to see that the
tarum picked it up as well because you
you only notice that when you realize
what's missing and That's Yoseph's uh
trip without any explanation into the
occult because and I have another way of
explaining it. But that that that that I
think at least for today is what Yseph
is uh doing. So again the
that is what brings yo that is what
brings Yakov back to life because when
the brothers the brothers can't follow
instructions. That's what it comes down
to is that Yoseph speaks with precision
and they repeat what he said without
precision and that doesn't work. But
when they say exactly what Yoseph says,
that brings that brings Yoseph alive
again and that brings Yakov alive again.
