be with you again and I'm sorry that I
missed you last week but my doctor was
very happy anyway but he gets paid so um
[gasps]
I do want to uh take you up to what we
were doing what I'm going to be doing
and it's difficult in what I'm hoping to
do in so far as there's so much to say
about Yahosua and about Yahushua himself
and then to put it in a um logical
whether chronological or whatever way to
uh of the events is a little different.
We did start actually with two shiim I
believe about Yahushua the man and then
the book but I really did not I did not
really go into the book itself. We we
noted a few things about it. We did
begin for example with the um first
perk in which I showed you how there
everybody was telling him
I was trying to show you how there
wasn't so much confidence into what type
of
leader Yoshua would be. Indeed that God
tells him that in the Torah and so does
Moshe tell him that in the in the Torah.
I even somewhat uh or I won't say
jokingly but I I think seriously said
you know how many times did anybody ever
tell Mosha Kazak you know he was telling
them that no one ever told him obviously
this Yoshua was not a a wellknown
for leadership
um person and there were ner they were a
little nervous and the irony being uh he
was a an outstand standing leader and
showed you that throughout his time as
the Torah as the uh Tanakh tells us at
the end of Sephra Yosua that there was
no his his leadership was so great there
was never a complaint during his years
and he was successful the whole time.
All right, good. [snorts] But let us go
now into some of the events and some of
the texts that um teach us something.
And uh it begins with the first
the very first source that I have
in the very in the first chapter. Not
only was everybody telling Yoshua, be
strong, be strong, be strong, but uh
Yoshua begins as a real leader by
commanding the leadership, the chrea
um uh what they have to do.
So that in itself was a uh you know a
beginning of his leadership. You know,
don't be so nervous about him. Um I have
here wonder we'll have a guest with you.
[clears throat]
>> You know how they sit over here? They
sit over here. Good. Very good. And um
we're s we're he tells the the officers
the we're so used to using the word as a
policeman. Uh but it means officers. Um
he said go through the camp and tell the
people quote get provisions ready for in
three days time you are to cross the
Jordan to enter and possess the land
that Hashem has given you. So it was now
three days before they were to cross the
yard, the Jordan, which means at this
point they are on the eastern side of
the Jordan. I vote mo they're actually
in shitim uh where they had the first
time we saw we saw them or we read of
their
encampment there is at the end of the
para of balaka
bashim and so from that should I say uh
book and a half for the last half of um
the midbar and then the next uh um book
of Dvarim. They remained there. It's
right on the eastern part of the uh uh
of the Jordan. It is on the banks almost
of the Jordan in the area of Moab or
Moab whatever. And um
they they are there till this point. Uh
in fact if I wanted to go to the very
beginning the first verse of the second
per it says there is
that Yeshua sent spies mehashim from to
go over. So, we know they were there.
Anyway, here they are on the eastern
side of the Jordan. And they're told by
Yeshua, of course, who was told by God
that in 3 days they're going to be
crossing the ordained to enter the land.
This is something they've been waiting
about for about 40 years. You know,
[laughter]
you know, sometimes we get some
wonderful, wonderful um discussions. You
know, we go to Israel, you want to learn
something, go to a police, a a um cab
driver. They know everything, right? Uh
I was once I this wasn't a cab. I'm
thinking now back from it, but I
remember someone uh conversing with me
obviously. He said, "Well, you know,
Mosher Rabenu obviously wasn't a very
good tour guide. He got lost in the
desert
and so I was biting my tongue so that I
shouldn't say anything. I said you know
so
[clears throat] brilliant. Um
anyway uh so here he got he didn't get
lost in the desert. They knew very well
where they were and why they were and
God told them and God led them. of
course. But at any rate, um here he is
knowing that finally after 30 40 years
having left um Egypt, they are about to
cross the Ardane and three more days. By
the way, it does tell us I think I may
have it here, but I'll There goes my
surprise. They crossed the yard on the
10th day of Nissan.
I would love to have a wonderful
somewhat little a little celebration
10th day of Nissan the first time that
Ben Israel not as Ben Israel but as AmI
is
cross into the holy land. Yes. Aam lived
there instead of Yako and the kids they
were there but as a nation
>> celebrate me ali your aliyah every
>> it was the it was the first of aliyah
correct um indeed the very first time
the people of Israel are regarded as ami
Israel was in the beginning of shimote
up until there it was always ben Israel
Benov
but never am Israel and that was given
him by parro who said he am Israel
behold they're too big for us too great
for us or too powerful to us for us so
they're going to cross over in three
days and therefore he says you have to
start and prepare for that he told the
tribes of Ruvane God and half of manasha
as we are reading here th those are the
two and a half tribes that will be in
the forefront of the war and and uh
that they told them you remember what
Moshe commanded you when he said Hashem
is granting you a haven and assigning
this territory to you. He told you that
only if the condition is that you will
lead them into the uh land itself. And
I've discussed a number of time the
concept of being in the first in the
times of the wars in ancient land. Of
course the if you're in the first line
uh that is the very difficult life
that's the beginning uh of being you
know you're the targets basically and to
take that very very courageous stand was
a very important thing and indeed they
did so so they're told that very nice
good
has control clearly he begins to speak
like a leader and the events proceed
deed according to plan. In fact, when
they go into the third chapter gimmel,
we indeed find that that's exactly what
they do. That's the second
source that I have you here by Yahosua
Baboker early the next morning and all
of Israel sent out from Shim told you uh
and marched to the Yardain. They did not
cross immediately. They spent the night
there. Uh, and three days later, the
officials went through the c camp
charging the people. When you see the
holy ark being borne by the kohanim,
born as an eel, being carried by the
kohanim, you shall move forward and
follow it. As we go in there, the go
entering into the uh um holy land
crossing the yane.
They are being led by what?
>> What does it say?
>> The the kohanim with the
>> ark. The ark of course is symbolic of
but god himself.
>> Huh?
>> It's not a bad tour guide. They went
into a dangerous to a possibly very
dangerous situation carrying the ark in
the car in that didn't have arms
probably in
>> Yeah, they probably knew there wouldn't
be right away the the a fight but anyway
um they they are going to be led by the
ark. Is that questionable?
Why do you think perhaps should be
leading
>> more than Yosh more than the
>> Yoshua should be leading? Shouldn't he
>> do did Moshe lead the people into
Yamamsuf? He should not did not. He
stood there and made a crow right behind
them. They were there were it was the
cloud that led them. Who was a cloud?
>> Hashem.
>> Hashem. And so it's the same thing here.
So though we might ask, well, why didn't
Yoshua do it? So clearly the message
both when they left Mitzim
and when they entered Erit Israel was
yes, you have leaders,
but it's doing this. God says God is
going to lead you whether through the
holy ark or whether through the cloud
that led them into the sea. Very good.
Anyway,
um
so the three three days we read about in
the first par
says they immediately went down to the
uh sides of the the banks of the Jordan
and waited three days for the three days
that they were told to do so and
everything fell into spa place very
well. But if you did um realize
something or I said nothing, we didn't
have you didn't have a Tanak in front of
you. So I can't blame you. But if you
have a um I don't know computer in front
of you or even just something to know
how to count. I started with Peric Alf
and went with Perkimo.
I did skip Perrick Beck. The second
chapter, the second chapter is well
known. That's the chapter which we'll
get to a little bit to uh of the spies
sent by Yahushua, right? That's by So
that happens now
when that's a good question. Um
and if you look
um if we would skip
the perbat completely and go from alf to
gimmel it really flows very easily. God
Mo Yoshua tells the people prepare
yourself because in three days you're
going to be crossing the Jordan and
Gimmel says so they went down to the
Jordan and waited three days till they
come there was it was it flows very
easily makes sense that that's what
happened but we have to ask what so what
happened now these these these days that
the spies were in with Raav in the
Jericho and what happen. Um
more than that
if you read the chapters let's say the
proim from a from first to six from alf
to vav without the ch the second
all it goes in chronological area um
chronological order it is also flows
very very nicely ly no problem at all
else. So
we have to look at the second chapter
perkbet and the story of the moragalim
and ra to see well where did this fit in
and to find out that you know what
maybe it wasn't quite in chronological
order. Let me explain to you not only
maybe but for sure and you'll see why
perk bet could have very well been per
olive and then comes peret
of course per alf starts
mosha right after the mosha died then
comes ahead so that makes a flow from
the Torah but chronologically when of of
the events this is this was not
chronological and I'll show you why
perkbet is basically a a a an
independent part of the safe Yoshua
because Perkbet tells that one story uh
again the independent story if I want to
use that state of of the I'm sorry of
the the
of the spies going into Urio good um
and that is important for a very simple
reason. Um,
it isn't a story that the spies are so
relevant, so important. It's not that
relevant. I suppose it's nice to know
and it's interesting but we could have
still
we should have we still could have
understood the safer Yahosua and the
flow of it and what was happening very
easily without having the whole details
of well Raab was there she was over
there and they came they nice story but
it wasn't that c crucial
but it is important
because it's more than just an intrusion
intrusion between what was happening is
actually shall I say a chronological
puzzle because look what it says when uh
the in the second chapter when the spies
are having a conversation with Ra who is
hosting them there we see in the third
source
ra says says to the spies after the um
the king and the officers of Uho had
left them. She says to them, "You can't
hang around here. Obviously, it's
dangerous." Says, "And she says to them,
hahara in Hebrew, go to the hills
outside of here so that the pursuers do
not catch you." Has anybody here been
down to if you're going down to the emo
there you go down um beautiful play. I
was just there actually when I drove um
on Thursday afternoon. Uh we went we
went uh up to Lvie and they ways told me
what to tell you know I went down there
to what they call the big a right do you
ever go down there by the before you
make that left turn to go north in the
big ah that's at uh you pass that and
make a left turn and you're going north.
If you look to your left that is you
look now westernly what do you have
there is all what
>> hill
>> huh
>> hills
>> like cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl
cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cl cliffs mountains
hello you but you're ra the dead sea
only the lowest place in the face of the
earth so anything over there goes up so
she's saying go run into those hills
go up over there and then she says cru
Crucially, he says, "Go to the hills so
that the pursuers do not catch you. Hide
there for how long?"
>> For 3 days.
They have to stay hiding after they were
in for whatever time overnight. We know
it was plus now three days that they had
to hide
until the pursuers returned gone away.
So look what happens. So they went
straight to the hills and stayed there
for 3 days and until the pursuers turned
back having searched all along. They
were not finding them. After the three
days plus the time they were in Eureko,
the two men came down again from the
hills and crossed over the Jordan. And
they came to Joshua and reported to him
all that had happened. Joshua hadn't
changed, hadn't yet crossed the Jordan.
So if he says if we read that in Alf in
3 days we'll be crossing and yet the
spies
>> clearly were there longer than 3 days
and then they came back and they were
still hadn't. So when did he send the
spies?
>> Not when when he told them three days
you're leaving before that
>> probably before they ever knew anything
he said to him before I tell the people
we're getting go to. So the story of the
Moragim really begins at the beginning
of Sephra Yoshua
>> before
>> before Allah you minus or plus what you
want to say it right it happens the
event happens there now I understand why
the perak begins as it does because
we're literally flowing from Torah to
Na'vi and it reads in the end of the
Torah the death of Mo Moshe and Yoshua
begins with beginning of
Moshe
and after Moshe died, Yoshua now becomes
the leader. So it's understandable they
did that way. It also helps us to have
Torah
because it goes one to the other. But
eventful wise actually
Yeshua had already at that point
sent the the Miragleim. fascinating.
>> What is fascinating also
just I'm throwing it in because I like
to throw things in
according to tradition and it's not
written in the Torah.
We are told by tradition that Mosher
Rabino died when [snorts]
>> what date.
>> Thank you. Zion Adar the right seventh
day of Adar obviously
like many people
you don't want to see poor not anyway uh
Adar [snorts] that's what it is why does
tradition say that
we read that the people of Israel
mourned for Moshe
30 days
Yoshua tells them
seemingly when it's over, you'll cross
the Yard in three days. That means they
crossing the 10th of of Nissan, which it
say in the text. So when did he tell
them to go to go over? Three days
earlier is what day?
>> Seventh.
>> The seventh of Nissan. If they if they
were mourning for 30 days, right? That
means he died when the seventh of Adah.
That's why kazal say that the death of
Moshe was the seventh of
so now you know why this is always
correct that way but that's a most
things tale makes sense it makes sense
all right
of
>> it does say that in the text in it says
on the cross day. So that I know that's
the one thing we know. We don't have
dates often in Tanah, but when we have
them sometimes they're very very
important. For me, one of the most
important dating we have, we find in the
beginning in Malakim Alf in the opening
verse of the sixth perk of Alakim Alf
where it says
uh 480 years after
uh they they uh left
arthrit after they uh Schlommo begins
building the beta mikdash
>> which helps us understand and put things
into perspective.
You know, it's it's not like we're
writing we're watching TV. I'm watching
some movie. So, oh, it happened now and
then a minute and a half later it
happened. It's it means that think of it
480 years after.
So, it means there's 40 years in the
desert. So, it's 440 years after Yoshua
first takes over, right?
>> And so, so think about that. How long
was it? Yeah, David, let's say uh ruled
for 40 years, right? 40 years. Okay. So,
that means he he began his rule rule
about because you can't tell really
specifically each year. It means that he
started to be about 400 years
after they first go into after Yoshua
dies. 400 years
we think about oh yeah well shim is just
one book so that was over and I'll say
brother but
was 350 360 years then there was
and so on and so forth then there's the
400 years you know it's a long way so
whenever people come down and say
now they want to build the mdash you got
480 years to wait from the time you get
in here understand has his own his own
calendar. Don't think you have a
calendar for him.
>> Kings for about 300 years.
>> Yes, they have no that's that's why I
always tell you and we'll go when we get
into shim that's another wonderful time
we're going to have. It is oh it's a
very difficult difficult time was one of
the worship when I when I first as a
young man or a youngster if I say
youngster I think I was smarter than I
was but I have to say it was a young man
I think was already in university be
thinking of this
and I wrote someone had asked me I don't
know how it was a a a teacher or reb I
don't know said how would you
plot
the uh um the era of shim, good, bad,
whatever. And I plotted it as going
down, down, down, down or almost like
steps. And he said, "Why?" See, because
if you look at it, you see that it was
this they were getting worse and worse
and worse and worse. Um they're they
were not doing any every time they said,
"Oh, sorry. We were sin." And God helps
them. and they get a big hero said isn't
that great okay we don't anymore and and
they do say again and even when you see
who the leadership is but we'll get to
that when I get to shim and will be all
here to do that so here they are figure
that out it's amazing
actually they um it would seem that the
the moragal were sent uh really before
the story of begins the events begin the
events that are told in perak alf.
Okay. So um
that is why by the way the Radak and and
Rashi say that they said that in
they say we always say but Torah there's
an argument but when it comes to you
can't say that it's exactly um
chronological and they say that that's
what people were in ais for Moshe for 30
days they crossed three days later
that's why it has the zion and so on and
so forth and um
if we have any question now is okay good
uh so why don't you start perk alab
and then it will be chronological
um
so I there was one approach which I
really am not that
um
happy with but there is an approach like
that um and that is uh in Schlah you'll
find that and in part and the midbar
when they send the moragim there are no
criticisms by God why' you send the
moraglin right in fact the whole story
starts with that that in the moraglin
that God said to Moshe
So God told him to do it in Vim.
However, when we see a little different
thing when God Moshe said between you
and me that is not exactly what happened
first you came and said we don't want to
go into the land until you send send
these spies. So there that's what it
says um
and and therefore
in the beginning of Dvarim where it says
in the fourth
source
um that before they asked for the
right Ben Israel asked Moshe Moshe tells
Ben Israel okay exactly what Yahoshua
says in Al in Peric Alive he says It's
time for you to cross the ordained. Time
for you to go into the holy land.
You'll reach the hill country of the
and which Hashem is giving you. God has
placed the land at your disposal. Go up,
take position. God prompt you, fear not.
Don't be dismayed.
Said it's time for you to go in. All
right. Here it is. We waited almost two
years. A little less than that. time we
we can go into Israel now into the holy
land. Uh and what happened of course is
they said um um as goes we want to first
send agents ahead
you know to uh recon order the um
land for us bring back a report you know
that happened already in Dvarim
and therefore
um
in Dvarim we see Moshe criticize izing
Israel for having asked to send raglim
and perhaps
um Yoshua who authors now his book
doesn't want to start with doing exactly
what Moshe told you shouldn't do in the
beginning of Dubarim then in the
beginning of Yahosa he's going to say
okay send so one of approaches I think
is a little as we'd say in the prefer
perfect uh Kingh names English
but nonetheless that is an approach.
Um and
and some say that is the reason. Others
may say that
Yoshua
maybe has frightened because um
as as in fact if you look in per
we see that ra says arts with
everybody's afraid of you. We're all
afraid of the occurrence. So therefore,
um maybe the the author Yoshua who
writes the Yosh the the safer Yoshua
wants to use that idea of how they're
all fearful before they go in Pak to
find out that all of the populists there
are fearful of the uh approaching
powerful people of Israel. Um but I
think that what I told you before is the
continuity reason very simple. You start
by peric alaf with the ending of Mosha's
leadership and you want to start with
the Yoshua's leadership. Yes, it's
possible for them to then in the middle
of then send and at that point he sends
this the spies and then you tell the
whole spy story and then he goes and
says okay in three days you're going
across but be between you and me it
would have been a it's a lousy literary
thing to do you won't be able to follow
the all the story so well whatever the
reason isn't that problem problematic
but I just wanted to open that to you
also Okay.
The next thing I want to go through now
now [snorts] after we go well I know I'm
going to I'm going to go a little um I'm
going to not skip around uh but skip
around my um
my notes.
We never went through this the full
story of Rakava and the spies. I do not
believe that we did. No, even though
we're there, you heard me. That's good.
Good. Um,
Yoshua and Moragim,
he sends these Moragim. Please be aware
it never tells us who the Moraglim are.
I know when we were busy with our um
coloring books in the fourth grade and
we we know had to be pin and you know we
had to know oh we know who it was you
know and that's not it doesn't say that
anywhere there there's no kinas
[clears throat]
doesn't say that logically they figured
it is going to be I don't know how
logical it was to have pinas who would
be the next gad you know but okay fine
they were the big guys there and
Okay. But it doesn't say that. So these
two spies agents
um on this mission they went immediately
to have one thing to have one job and
that is and that as Yoshua says um uh he
said go and he says [snorts]
That's the
go and see the land and that's not
really and see the land the see the land
in
why that's going to be that's going to
be the first populated area and you know
enough large enough to have real
population and an army and uh and check
out there
not ask them are they strong or weak as
Moshe was told to do or he did himself.
Not that just tell us what what it is.
Just tell us what you see that he simple
words.
That's it.
Six words. That's all he said. Then they
went and they entered the home of what
we call Rael um Rakav.
Um and as Raal is depicted in in the
Tanakh there uh is Zona
Zona almost everywhere in Tanakh means
she was a harlot. She was a prostitute.
Um we get very nervous about that. Don't
uh it's a different thing than one would
imagine. It was a very very um popular
should I say in in the ancient uh cult
cultures cultures you had that so
it's somewhat logical as well
because who would know the best thing
about uh the people in the place but the
prostitute they know the men right
exactly like almost is like the taxi
driver. I just want Yeah. I like taxi
drivers. Right. When I was learning
Yahushua in I think fourth grade, which
I think is wonderful. That's where you
should be starting. I get very upset as
a teacher for many many years.
Specifically in Tanak that they're
starting they start now they're starting
to teach maybe in fifth grade which
means by the time they finish in seventh
grade they don't even touch.
But three years ago when I went back I
started asking it uh the teachers one of
them is now a principal who is a student
of mine and learned with me. I said to
Avi, "What are you doing with Navi? What
do you get up to?" Said, "The truth of
the matter is we we finish sometimes."
I said, "How do you do that?" They're
going to go into high school and they're
going to tell them all about Yes. Yahoo.
And they're going to say, "Who?"
>> And Schlombo who? They won't know
Schlommo. They won't know the anything.
none of the kings is mentioned in
they would know about that. So I I very
upset about it and he told me something
which is true where he was from and
though it was true I didn't care.
He said what can I tell you? He said
they want to get into the yeshivas and
the yeshivas they want to get to they
have to know Gamarra really well.
[snorts]
So they give him extra charm of garam
and they cut out anything. So they know
Gamarra and they can give you a but they
can't understand what Tanak says.
[snorts] Another one of my uh I'll get
off on one of those two things. Terrible
educationally.
>> Huh?
>> The girls get it cuz they're not going
to learn.
>> No, it's a boys.
>> Uh no, this actually the one I went to
has both separately but boys and girls.
That's a very good question. because I'
I've always heard that women generally
know Tanak better because of that.
>> Yeah, could be. I don't believe that
they didn't act because he say God for
that should know more than the boys. Um
but how how painful it is to me. How
painful,
>> you know, it's a
it's like baking a cake, but you really
don't even know the recipe, but you know
the you know how to eat it.
That's what the not not knowing Tanakh
and knowing
tears apart and historically it actually
happened.
Tak was very important even she was in
the early uh after the middle ages a bit
about the 18th century when there is a
uh uh the um railhousing and there were
the reform movement and stuff like that
who said we what do we are biblical
scholars and Arab and Jews they're just
rabbitic and since rabbitic is less
important than biblical so we follow the
Bible We don't have to listen to the
rabbis which is by the way what they
said back with the in the times of the
Mishna as well when they have the in so
it was something almost every time they
broke away some some sect breaks away
from the traditional Judaism it always
was by we don't need to be so detailed
about the rabbis we're going to say what
the you know it says in the uh in the
Torah itself help which they ignore
also. But anyway, um
that's a a tragedy in my view. Uh and
okay, I I I have a admittedly a soft
spot to Tanakh. I find it interesting
and it's tragic to me when I write my
articles for the Torah. I I try very
often and often that's how I get my
ideas is to say, don't just look at the
Torah. Thank God you know the after
because you've heard it all your lives
when you go to sh but you know what
happened in the per before unless you
understand what what was this what the
theme was before when we we reach the
Torah or even after you don't fully
understand why the Nav is saying whether
it's
why they're saying these things then
because you don't know what was
happening in the reality then it's sad
how okay I know this you know you know
what it is though anyway way. Um,
they go into there to Raav and I started
saying to you about my fourth, see how
when I started just saying I started in
the fourth grade, they would never tell
a fourth grader that she was a harlot
and a prostitute for two reasons. How
can you do that? And secondly, they
don't know what it is. So, thank God.
Nowadays, I'm not saying that, but in
those days, they know what it was. So,
the the old thing I hear it now as my
father teacher teacher was telling me
because they we learned it in Hebrew.
Isa
mazone. It's a woman who who actually
sold mazone meaning food. She she was a
she ran the molite basically. Is that
what it is? And after we got old enough
to realize, we start chuckling at that.
Oh, they try to keep our uh wonderful,
you know, virgin ears away from hearing
this.
But just recently, I had the argument
that said, "Don't laugh at that." It was
very very um common that right in the
beginning when you enter the the city
you had a mol people were getting the
food and it isn't so terrible to think
that maybe she was
mazone of course try and find any other
place in the entire Tanak where somebody
who sold who was running a was called a
zona I don't know anywhere but it's a
possibility Wasn't she also supposedly
an inkeeper?
>> That's why they say inkeeper for that
reason.
>> Oh, an inkeeper is the same as
>> that servant.
>> Correct.
>> She ended up marrying,
>> huh? According to tradition against she
married,
>> huh? Yoshua.
>> Who?
>> Yahosua. Remember him?
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
>> That's a pretty good year.
>> Yeah. Uh, [snorts] right. Right.
Interesting. By the way, we don't know
Yoshua if he had children
did not cuz he don't find that want to
look for the for you she go into the
where they go down all of these. Anyway,
and so you know she hides them the uh
it was known that the Jews have come you
know I must building I don't know if
they were you know could be in shant or
something but they knew the Jews had
come they looked to find something like
that cuz they were afraid if they knew
they were on the the banks of the Jordan
and if you're going to be you can see
the Jordan where you are and and at
those times the Jordan was even wider
than it is now. U not that it's that's
hard to be wider than what it is now,
but it was really much a lot wider. Um
they had rafts to go across one of the
other here. You sort of walk across
anyway. So
the um
they they come there, they come and they
say to her, "Where are those men?
They're coming because they really came
here to spy out the city." And she who
had hidden them on top on the her roof
underneath some uh pist it's called
which is huh
>> straw straw
>> not quite straw pish pistim is uh linen
right so the there are rods or of how
what's linen come from
>> flax
>> flax very good you know Um they there
were these rods were I shall always say
those branches of flax that eventually
they they soften and everything they
make into linen but they were hidden
under there so they didn't find them and
in fact she says oh they did come here
you're right it's a very good as it says
in my a good libashi says this a good
lie always has some truth in it you're
right they were here but they just left.
If you hurry now, maybe you'll catch up
to them. Oh, thanks. And she they run
over there. I Good job. So that's when
she says these things and they make a
deal.
She tells them, "Everybody is frightened
of you. We know what your God did.
>> We know what your people what your
people have done. What your God has
done, how he split the sea and so on and
so forth." and we're all frightened.
We're all afraid. That's what she tells
them. And uh and then she saves them and
tells them what to do. And she says,
"Now you got to, you know, I I I risked
my life here. So when you come and we
know you're going to come to invade,
please, they, you know, save my life and
my family."
And they said we agree but you have to
have them all in your house. I see
because her house and it says very
clearly that her house was in the wall
itself.
It says um and therefore if they're
there we can we can tell you we will be
careful that we know where you were and
that nothing will happen to you.
However, if you that they're not there
or if you leave there it's not our
fault. And they said, "Fine, good, good,
good." And that was ill. And in order to
let them know where her house really
was, do you know what she did?
>> Yeah. But it wasn't uh
it wasn't a yellow ribbon on the old
right. It was a reed a red. No, a red
ribbon. So that they would see that in
the window, they'll know. Uhhuh.
How do they get out?
How did she sneak them out? Anyone know?
>> She went down a They went down a ladder
or rope.
>> That's right. She left She let them down
by rope.
>> Huh?
>> Yeah. Yeah. Rapunzel. No, not Rapunzel.
Um, anyone else? I I thought to give you
these little questions. Anyone else that
you recall
a woman who
who um put down or what's the word I'm
saying? Some from the window saved a
life
>> the
no
>> that's
that one. No, she didn't do that.
Believe it or not,
David's
wife
when her father Sha sent his servants
his guards to go and grab to um Davidid
and to kill him. In fact, she hides him
by putting in putting a a something
under under the under the coverings her
bed over the head that with hair. It
looks like it was him. I think probably
something red because he was a red head.
Um
and she let let him got down by a rope.
So she he that's how he was able to uh
you know to to actually survive in that
court. In fact you know one of the one
of the one of the uh
tell about that when David was saved
when his when his father-in-laws bought
it. So that's an interesting other
thing. I just threw that in there
because why not? So anyway, they do go
for that time and they return to um
Yeshua and it's still he hadn't crossed
the
and they said indeed to Yoshua
they said call everybody's afraid the as
we would say they're all nervous and and
uh now you know that indeed God has
given us the land because they're all
afraid of us. Now I'm going to end now a
because it's time to but also because
keep these because we're going to
continue a little for next time but also
to tell you something very interesting.
I know this is very interesting because
when I had it in my head it was very
interesting unfortunately now I can't
remember what I was going to say. Uh
the the um yeah the idea that now they
come down and they tell the
When go Moshe sent the spies,
[clears throat]
[snorts]
>> how did he send it?
>> Chose them.
>> Huh?
>> He chose the one.
>> Yeah. He chose how many?
>> 12.
>> 12 from each
>> tribe.
>> Tribe. And he
missioned them publicly. This is what
you have to do. when they come home
um they they tell what happened
>> and saying we're not going to be able to
do it. They went crazy and everybody
cries and the whole story and welcome to
right
sends spies. What does it say there? It
says listen the words
to
more. You know what karesh means?
Secretly.
>> He sent only to and secretly. So now
when they come back to whom do they
report?
>> Only Yeshua. No one else. It was all
done privately, secretly the normal and
proper way. and therefore it was
successful because I'll say that very
clearly very it's good to know that very
simple you want success
>> shut up that's what it is don't talk
[laughter]
