all right wonderful we're going to uh
we're going to get
started and uh yes sh to everyone great
to have everyone here this
morning and we'll jump right into the uh
the learning of uh Riv cook so
the the topic that we're going to look
at this morning is um is a very
important topic and I would say is one
of the classic teaching
and uh one of the definitive teachings
of Riv cook and the question is and we
can begin with the following question
and that is how is it that we relate
toim how we relate to the wicked to
rebellious to the
non-observant how does the uh the Jewish
community and the Orthodox community and
the Ala how does it respond to uh to
those individuals and I would say that
one of the uh one of the sources we can
look at is one that we're all familiar
with and that is from the night of the
Seder the pesak Seder where we have a
Russia that's sitting at the Seder right
that's what the hag tells us that one of
the children that's sitting at the Seder
is the Russia is the the wicked one The
Wicked Child so um the response there at
the Seder I would say is it doesn't
appear to be such a a a warm response to
uh to the
Russia we speak
about that you are to blunt his teeth
many interpretations of that but at face
value looking at that source and that's
a very very important you know source of
kazal so we see that you know that kind
of reaction or that kind of response to
a Russia is um sort of within the the
realm of the way that we do respond to
Ram okay that's that's one s yes
please
resp do includ okay good okay good but
because it's not okay good point that's
good I would say that's a um I think
that that's an important reading but
even with that in other words we we say
that he's not including himself but we
still respond strongly in other words
you know that that still needs to be
um analyzed and understood why that is
the response so we'll see in a moment
and um and throughout this year the
interesting perspective an important one
which comes from Riv cook which I think
we can already anticipate what Riv cook
is going to going to say but he's going
to say it in a very unique way and uh
from zman of liadi the first re of kabad
that's also going to be a very important
source and through the through a a
talmid of ruuk as well so let's begin
with the following piece we are in the
very last chapter we've been studying
this very special
eret this is the ninth piece this is
Tess in the last chapter in the 12th
chapter of
eret and the last chapter is really
about Unity it's about Oneness it's
about the Theus that is so needed in am
Israel and here he writes the following
and he's going to talk about the uh the
PO Isel The Sinner of Israel and
especially at this time going back to
the early 1900s as these po Isel these
Sinners are coming back to of Israel but
as we all know they're coming back to
the land of Israel not you know not to
find a a nice apartment here and not to
live the good life so to speak but
they're here because they believe in AIT
Israel they believe in building the land
of Israel they're sacrificing for that
they love the uh they love am Israel as
a whole so they have many attributes
very very special attributes and here R
cook says the following and we read
together this is the top of Page One
Hanes sh is the nees that's found in the
PO is the Sinners of
Israel in this time of the footsteps of
the
Mah related to those that are connected
with love to CLA Israel in other words
these are people that are very much
connected they have a great love for the
Jewish
people they
love that they are also connected to the
Revival of the
nation so this is what they have these
are the attributes that they uh that
characterize that Community what we call
the po Israel right those are sinners of
Israel but look at these Sinners look at
these Sinners what they have right they
love Israel they love being connected to
am Israel they love the land of Israel
they love the the connection that they
have and they're part of building the
Jewish people again and here is the line
that is uh I would say
maybe somewhat radical he
says it's considered to be more
more more whole
then Isel even more so than those that
are shal those who are theun Isel and
there he's referring to the religious
community in other words that they have
something that actually
outshines that it's actually even
greater than those that are sitting in
the Bas medish those that are part of
the traditional community in uh in Eric
Israel at the time because they have
these values they have these
characteristics they they love the
nation they love the nation of Israel
they love the land of Israel they they
are part of revitalizing the Jewish
people in that sense they are greater so
it's not only that well let's be donus
and they're not so bad right there are
those who would say that R comes along
and says no they're even greater see
those attributes as outshining that
they're on a higher level than the
schl that that Community referring to
the religious community they don't have
this added
Dimension that they're not connected
fully with a um with a benevolence or
the goodness towards the rest of a
Nation okay again we can talk about you
know today maybe it's a bit different
but what he's describing certainly at
that time is they they're they're an
isolated Community they're an insulated
community that that's what they do they
move into those communities they're
learning they're producing beautiful
children they're raising families but
they're really just doing that you know
to to to kind of create the holy
Community for themselves they're not
they're not concerned with the larger am
Israel and this community these
communities of quote unquote the PO
Israel right these Sinners the
rebellious ones that they have a great
love for the nation for the rebuilding
of the land of Israel the na of Israel
and they also the last three words in
the first
paragraph and they're also not part of
they're not taking part in the binyan
with the rebuilding of ha the nation and
a Israel that's not that's not their
focus and in that sense the um so
there's a higher level of nephesh that's
the term that he uses that their nephesh
the nephesh of the posi Israel is
actually a a higher level than the ne
than the nefes that's found in the quote
unquote the religious community now
that's not the end of his statement he
now is going to speak about another
aspect of the Soul another aspect of a
of the religious person and that's the
ruak now when it comes to the ruak in
the ruak we could speak about more of
the spiritual aspect of a uh of a
religious personality he says the ruak
is greater it's a greater ruach that
they have in the religious quote unquote
the religious community look at the next
par
paragraph but in that community in terms
of the ruak now here he's saying
something very positive about the
religious community all right there's
something great in this quote unquote
the PO Israel but there's also something
great in the religious community and
what did they have they have a very
unique Ru they have a very pure and a
holy spirit r
right because that's what they're
connected to they're connected to Torah
to even though they don't have yet right
this this um this connection to building
the nation
K they do not compare to those in the
other community who have that longing
for the land of Israel the
revitalization of am
Israel he says in the other community
again the PO Israel Community the
Sinners right there's something lacking
there and the truth is because of the
lack of ruach that they have they can't
really fulfill even the mission of the
nephesh in the full sense
I'm
sorry so therefore they suffer with
theam even their nees their nees is also
not whole amongst the POS Isel because
they're lacking mitv they're lacking
yatem so here we see Ru cook
highlighting the two communities there's
positive in both communities there's
something lacking in both communities as
well okay now how is the tikun and again
ruk is always looking for the
how to create the tun how are we going
to uh to heal this and how we going to
create a a perfect Jewish Community
perfect Society so he writes the
following the last
line so there's going to be a that's
going to come through the light of
mssiah the light of the Messiah but by
the way that doesn't mean the Messiah
has come yet the light of the msia is
coming maybe we're in those days
hopefully they we're in those days that
the light of Messiah is
here so he writes something here which
is not going to be the uh the topic for
this morning but he says one of the
things that we need to do when we've
spoken about this in the past is that we
need to learn more of the Raz Torah we
need to understand more of the depths or
the secrets of the Torah and with that
study of Torah that's going to bridge
the gap between those
communities continuing
in all the different ways that that
those secrets are to be
revealed
who and what will what is the goal is to
bring in one one community that is bound
with one
another and that there will be a fixing
of
those or the community of the
traditionalists
that'll come about through appreciating
the nees of those that are the what's
what's
calledit there is to recognize what they
are bringing to the table that they are
the hopes and the dreams that they have
to be influenced be impacted by to be
inspired by that community
and how about the r on the of the
Sinners right there's something lacking
there they don't have the Mitzvah they
don't have the
Torah that they will be influenced by
the other community that there'll be
there'll be influenced impacted by
the people of great
faith and in both communities there'll
be a great light
and with that a great Chua will come to
the world a great Chua will come to the
Jewish world and to the entire
world and at that moment we will be
ready for G so when is G going to comea
will come where we have Theos mashia we
have this light of mashiah and what does
this light reveal the light reveals that
in each Community each Community is
bringing something spectacular to the
table in terms of what we need we need
the great builders
and those in the other community need to
recognize that building the land loving
loving the Jewish people as a whole
building ER Isel and those in the other
Camp need to be impacted and influenced
and see the greatness in the religious
community that we need Torah that we
need Mitzvah that we need our M and when
the two recognize one another so that is
the uh that is the tikun that then we
are in the words of Rook we
are we are now now we're ready for G yes
please in other words we're talking
about Unity we're definitely we're
definitely talking about Unity yes we're
we're talking about Unity bring
everybody together bringing everyone
together and how do we bring everyone
together when everyone sees the great
quality the great qualities in the other
community respect the great respect and
Beyond I think it's it goes even Beyond
respecting one another because you can
respect somebody without without without
seeing the other without seeing the
benefit of the other without
appreciating the other okay I respect
you but I don't you know I don't really
I don't get you but I respect you but RI
cook is saying no it's not about it's
not about that it really goes beyond
that it's the Holiness that you have
what you the the contribution that
you're making the Holiness of your
contribution and that both communities
need to see that in one another
yes influen and hash that's right and
hash influence one another and so that's
a uh no it's a good point especially
from our side in other words how do we
have we want the secular Community to
appreciate Torah in mitzvot so how do we
do that in other words we're we're kind
of like waiting around well don't you
know shouldn't you love Torah and Hashem
and all the mitzvot and what do we do to
make that happen so that's a uh that's
the hash maybe it's not just waiting
around for it to happen that we need to
do what are the what are the actions
that we need to take what are the kind
of things that we need to do so that
happens yes
please um I thought about how you yes
you make a good point you make a good
point right I right so it's it's more
it's complicated yes it's complicated
when um how we how how how we implement
this idea yeah it it definitely yes it's
it's a complicated issue but as an idea
as a uh as a grand idea as an ideal so
this is something that RI cook is uh Ru
cook is is speaking about and speaks
about in uh in many in many of his uh
many of his teachings now here I want to
look at I want to look at a couple of
sources with you in terms of where R
cook where where he where we find this
idea of seeing the um of seeing the best
or seeing the nefes what he highlights
the nefes of the of the
rim and I would say not everybody
necessarily is on board with this this
is not not an obvious point but I want
to begin here with a gamar which is
actually a very well-known gamarra and
many of the women in the room will
appreciate this gar because it's a
teaching that comes from a woman in the
gamar in the gamarra bua who corrects
her husband on on a particular issue and
it's her correction that the gamar says
is is uh is accurate that she is correct
and that RoR is wrong so let's look at
the gamar it's a gamar that you you may
be familiar with a gamar that's found in
Bros DAV in Bros you have it on the
bottom of the page and it speaks about a
very similar topic that we were just
talking about in terms of poim in terms
of individuals that RoR feels are acting
inappropriately and actually prays that
God should punish them for their for
their actions so let's look at the words
of the
gamar mayor that there were a uh here
it's translated Hooligans some very very
difficult individuals that were living
and giving ra a very hard
time and he was they were making a lot
of what's s sarus we all know that word
they make a lot of they were they Mak it
very difficult on R
May a lot a lot of
difficulty
May sir mayor says thear that he DAV ra
means that he DAV concerning
them that they should God should God
should punish them harshly they should
be put to death that God should end
their life for all of the the terrible
things that they were doing I imagine
that they were doing terrible things
they're not just guys that were uh you
know giving him a hard time but that RoR
felt that they deserve the punishment
Min something very serious and here we
go de his wife brya
said why is this your uh why is this
your
approach it says in
the it says that God should bring an end
to the sins
does it say in the that you should
remove the Sinners it doesn't say remove
the Sinners it says to remove the
sins so she teaches rabi
mayor and says it says in the p is
referring
to so uh this changes the mind this
convinces RAB mayor if we just skip
three lines down
says so rebbi mayor changes his position
he doens that they do chva where and in
that way there won't be rishes not to
remove the people but to remove the r
the
evil and he DAV for
them and those people did chuv so that
is the gamarra so we see interesting
that we have two positions here mayor is
no slou she's considered to be one of
the one of the greats of the gamarra one
of the greatest of all the sages of the
gamarra and yet he takes the position
somebody that's sinning and somebody who
transgresses in such a serious way that
that person really deserves to be
punished and that is the response to
such a person and here bruer comes along
and says that's not the response it's
not about the person it's about the sin
so let's look at the following this is
the comment of RI cook on this passage
in the gamar turn to page two the bottom
of page two and this is from the Anaya
these are the um this is the commentary
of of
cook on the gamar Bros so he quotes the
gamar so if you just that's in the Bold
this is Number Two by the way the bottom
half of the page um so if you go like
five lines down where it ends with the
Bold word says like three words in
that's so this is what
writes that we all know we all agree
that everybody has free
choice hasem doesn't determine if you're
going to be a Russ if you're going to be
a sadic everybody has free
choice but we also know
but we have another Principle as well
and that is if somebody chooses a the
path of righteousness that Hashem helps
that person in their
righteousness now not in terms of
somebody's a Russia that's not the case
but Hashem will step in if somebody's
trying to do good things you're trying
to do mitzah give Saka trying to do
Hashem helps you with that so what was
the thinking of rebbi Mayor Al re mayor
k
being that these people were deplorable
people through and
through and they're not looking to
change their
way how is my prayer going to help in
any
way that's something that is it's uh
it's set it's something in other words
they deserve that that's the punishment
that they deserve for all of their sins
they deserve to be wiped out they
deserve to be removed from this world so
that's um so I'm going to let Hashem do
that and that's you know that's that's
going to be my
position God is not going to step in and
change that and that is the foundation
of the Torah so they're they're on an
evil path and there's no way out of that
evil path and therefore that's going to
be my position and they deserve to be
punished from Hashem they deserve to be
removed from this world that's one
position that's rebi mayor's position
position but BR says something
else
however but BR has great Insight
here says b you do not have a wicked
person in the world we're on the top now
of column
two there's not a person in this world
that would not prefer to choose a better
path in
life it's only that the is forcing that
person it's pushing that person down the
wrong
path therefore it's only because of that
the person is
theable he's just going in the path
of but there is no such thing as a
person who is evil through and
through if the person just gets a little
bit of if they're advised and they get a
little bit of
from a little bit a lot or a little bit
is the key
line you never stop praying
to the person will choose a path of
righteousness even the greatest
Sinners it say this is the position that
is the more insightful position
it reflects the the the high quality of
the the nees of a
person this is the way that God has
created Every
Soul that there's goodness within Every
Soul
the there's no way of changing that
that's found in every single person and
even the Sinners even the PO Israel even
here in the story of RAB mayor she turns
to her husband rabby mayor and says you
have to have faith these people there's
there's the potential of goodness the
potential for them to
do therefore she says and she convinces
her husband that we need to DAV in for
them and the gamar says that it was
effective that she had and that's the
last position the gamarra the gamar
doesn't argue that the gamar says that
she got it right rebi mayor got it wrong
and the fact is that they did
chuva so this again I think some of this
m is we still have in our community
today in other words two positions
how do you respond to the r to is the
people who have left the fold people
that are rebellious to Judaism right
what is our response of them do we just
kind of as remor raor said just let you
know they're they're Sinners they
deserve what they deserve and that's it
and brius says no that's not how we
respond we respond with with faith that
they can that they can that every person
can turn things around that there's
goodness that the very essence of his
soul is goodness believe
that Elohim that's right we believe that
rebbi mayor didn't rebby mayor or at
some point or at least his first
position was that that there once you
reach a certain level of sinning and
transgression and rebelliousness that
that's we we kind of step away from that
now by the way there are sources and
we'll see a couple of sources right now
that seem in the Torah itself and in
kazal that do take that position RoR is
is is not the first to take that
position or it's not unique to Reby
mayor and by the way let's look at the
following Source this is one of the
classic sources on the topic and it's
the balat and this is really where kasus
begins one of the most important
statements Inus and with the safer yes
Rosanne before I find the difference
between Russia yeah you know Russia well
that you're your your point is you know
your point is it's you're making a great
point and that's one of the points that
RI cook that's his opening point to some
degree he says you're calling them po
Isel but they have a nephesh that's even
greater than those that are in the
religious Camp so don't call them pohe
Israel they actually have attributes
that outshine the the religious so your
your question is a good one and yes
defining that or recognizing that it's
not so simple to say you're religious
and you're not religious that's not a
that's you can't easily make that
statement that's exactly what ruk is
teaching so let's look at the following
this is uh this is from thean and this
as as many of us know maybe maybe we've
studied this work as well this is the
top of we're on page two the top of page
two and and this is a famous chapter in
nanya it's the 32nd lamad Bas and people
point out that it happened not maybe
it's not by chance that it's lamad Bas
lamad Bas is La which means the heart
and the balatan is going to speak about
the heart he's going to speak about the
heart of every Jew but he does speak
about the fact that we do have a Chic
law that says the following so look at
what and this is again this is part of a
a larger chapter it's worth just you can
look it up go to kab.org or wherever you
like just to read through this chapter
but we'll highlight just one section
from it and he deals with the gamar
which says that there is an obligation
to hate
Sinners so again R mayor's position that
he that that there is a that there's a
certain contempt that one needs to have
for those people that are rebelling and
sinning is something that we do find in
our sources by the way I'll come back to
the AG that we started with and the
Russia however we try to interpret it
right the the hagada does not say put
your arm around the Russia right that's
not that's not the that's not the
response of the Russia the a now again
we can we can kind of work on it but it
says the Russia asks his question what
are you guys doing right what
is right what is what is this what this
mitv and how do we
respond if you were in Egypt you would
not have gone out and you know what and
we're gonna that does not sound very
warm and loving and it isn't really it
isn't again them and everyone tries to
like read you know read read into it but
if you straight up it's taking position
that there's a place for for contempt
for Ram for those that remove themselves
from the community whatever it may be
but but there's contempt there there is
a response that's not a that's not warm
that's not embracing so the balatan
deals with that here look at the
following so mashar he quotes from the
gar that if you see your friend who is
sinning is actually Gara that has this
statement that you see a sinner you have
to have hatred for the sinner or for
that person again we could talk about
for the
sin you should report it to your ra this
is what the gamar says you should report
it to your Rabbi and that the rabbi
should also have contempt for this
person that's the statement the gamarra
which the balatan has to deal with now
what how how do we you know how do we
deal with that gamarra so this is the
first answer that he offers he
says by the way I I don't think you're
going to be satisfied with this answer
either but this is the beginning of his
answer he says it's not talking about
any any one any individual but somebody
who is in your community who also shares
your observance of Torah in
mitzvot in other words not just the guy
in the street and not just a secular Jew
or know better what he should know he
should know better he should know better
he's part of your community he davens
with you right he comes to shou and he's
still sitting in this way
says the bat and you tried to convince
him convince him right you did to and
you've spoken to this person and again
and again you've spoken to this person
the person still is not willing to
change
um so he says that that's that the the
reference
is means somebody who is who's with you
who again shares your same
and he doesn't return from a
sin and he quotes so there is a place
says the balat and that's again he's
struggling with this gamarra the gamarra
says that there can be hate so where can
there be hate to somebody who's a
colleague to somebody in your
community somebody that you've tried to
bring back to Judaism or to you know
he's again he's uh he's a he's an
upstanding member of your community yet
he's sitting in a certain way and he's
not and he's not open to changing to
that person you can have contempt are
you satisfied with that I don't know it
doesn't
sound but there is that that's his
interpretation but then he says the
following let me just add one last thing
but he says even when we're talking
about the hatred of that person again
that's the exception he says Where what
the gamar is referring to he
says but whenever we talk about Sin in
other words that line the gar that you
are to hate and contempt what does it
mean
words that you have a contempt for that
R that's in them the but you still have
love for the
person but you know that the person has
goodness that's that's
there right that person is essentially
good and to know that person has a that
person has great potential and you still
have a great Ava for that person so here
the balatan is saying what Rya said says
the same exact thing in other words you
can't hate the person right there should
not be contempt for the person even the
one that you are some okay we can kind
of work on this but he says there
actually are times that you can have a
certain hatred but it's never a hatred
towards the individual for what they're
doing it's for what they're doing it's
for the r in other words the fact that
you
areal shabas you're you're saying Lush
andara I don't hate you for I don't hate
you as a person for that I hate the Lush
and Hara I have contempt for the fact
that that that you're doing that but
that you can separate and that's not
easy to do always right to separate the
the the act the transgression from the
person but the person you love there's
great Ava for the person the potential
that you see in that person theim that
you see in that person that's always
there so that's the balatan that's the
famous and that's right 101 right to
love that person to continue to see the
N to continue to see the nitsu it's the
spark of Hashem that's found in every
person and you hate but you still in
other words you you there's there's
there's something very important about
hating the sin in other words that that
should bother us as well in other words
to see that that there's
shabas I had a guest over the shabas he
said my first time in Baka my first time
in the German Colony said I love the
community I love you just visiting but
he said I was I was really surprised and
it he said actually the word that he
used he said but it hurt me to see how
much there
was that was his real he's from a more
religious community he said it hurt me
to see the shabas I think that's that's
a beautiful I again it's that's a
beautiful way of expressing it in other
words why are there so he didn't say
that he said but it hurt me to see the
chabas that I think is what the Cena is
it hurts me to see that somebody's
speaking lard that somebody's but you
love the person right but you love the
community yes please you learn that from
y
was what he was yes yes that's what we
learn very good very good and he
highlights their he highlights their
their shortcomings they're faults that
needs to be stated but he gives them a
but it's a braa right but it's AA now
there's braa I love you you're my son
you're my children I give you the full
braa but I need to also point out to you
that that was not acceptable that's not
something that you should be doing so to
find that's that's the balance right
that's that's the balance it's not an
easy balance and I think again Rook is
for that as well in other words then to
see the greatness to see the beauty in
the community even where they're posim
right in other areas they may be POA
there may be transgression but to see
the greatness as well okay there's yes
did you no it's this is like parenting
101 yes it is yes you're right you're
you're exactly right you're exactly
right it's parenting 101 if only we
could parent that way all the time you
know to always express the love and to
be able to find balance between
expressing what is uh what we may find
at fault and that doesn't right it
doesn't it doesn't affect the the
relationship and the love that we have
okay there's something else that I want
to highlight and we can turn out to page
three in in the in the writings of R
cook in terms of
appreciating the
um especially in his day and it's true
today as well uh in terms of what we
call the po
Isel this is found in uh his classic
work is classic work
oote and we're on page
three and I have it bracket a bracket
where he speaks about the following now
I would say one of the classic ways that
we that we talk
about um that we talk about finding good
in others is we either say we say we
should be down in other words to okay
somebody maybe wasn't brought up you
know with a religious background we
don't necessarily understand exactly
what happened we're down kavus or um we
also had and the Kish was famous for
this position as well of what was called
tinisha Tino shisha which means that you
you weren't brought up with it like a
quote unquote a kidnapped child like
what are you sp you you know the secular
Jew in Israel today you want them to be
religious well they they never studied
they never studied in a in a in a Day
School in Yeshiva they were never
exposed to to were learning they were
never exposed to Mitzvah so what does it
mean to you know to to kind of Harbor a
hatred or or an enmity towards somebody
that doesn't that doesn't have the
background so that's the language the
konish use that language as well but
there's something else that Ru cook I
think adds to the adds to the equation
or to this the way that we judge others
and he writes the following just two
lines from the writings of cook
here the great of every generation K do
you see that I'm on the middle I have a
little bracket there in the arrow this
isid from orot from his famous work orot
and it's trans at
below the great people should not be
looking at the um that the deficit thank
you the deficit how they TR yeah the
deficiency the flaws that are found in
others that's that's not for great
people and by the way I don't think he
means only for the great rabbis really
for all of us all of us are great people
says the great people we're all sadik
right that we're not supposed to be
looking for Flaws in
others shall nees Israel we shouldn't be
looking at the negative negative aspects
of the nephesh that's found in
Israel and here's the key
line the fact that they are connected
this connection that they have
to that we are to enhance we are to
uplift theik now what does that mean and
again I think this is new to of Cook or
certainly he's highlighting it in a way
that I believe has not been highlighted
earlier byid Masters and others and I
don't think you find this in the balatan
either that he says the fact that these
Jews this really goes back to what we
spoke about earlier that a Jew is
connected to the CLA in other words the
fact that they're connected to the
nation and the way that they are
sacrificing for the nation the
contribution that they're making for the
nation there's great Holiness in that
and we need to see that and again it you
know it's so true today in terms of uh
you know the whole issue of of aus in in
Israel and those that are serving in the
Army those that are not serving in the
Army those that are serving in the Army
to see the connection that they have and
the sacrifice that they're willing to
make literally willing to give their
life and again the question Rosanne that
you asked before how do you judge how
how how do you determine who is a holy
person well is a holy person somebody
that gives their life or has given the
last nine months of their life they've
given years of training to protect us to
protect Israel so that we have a land of
Israel where does that fall in the you
know in the spectrum of religiosity of
what's considered a holy person so R
cook says that is something that we need
to see that sadim that uh that righteous
people need to see when they're judging
others and I think he's very sensitive
to the fact that that's and that has
changed somewhat coming back to the land
of Israel because we didn't have them
the same way the last 2,000 years in
terms of what it means to be connected
to the CLA and he saw those that were
coming back to the land of Israel and
those that would be coming back to the
land of Israel building the nation no
matter what they're doing in terms of
their observance but
their right that that point of Holiness
that they're connected to the CL that's
something that is enormous in terms of
in terms of Holiness in terms of
sanctity and to see that and to
appreciate that in uh in our fellow
Jew um let's look at at uh we're going
to skip that source for now I want to
look at one other really interesting
Source this is go to page four this is a
talid maybe considered to be one of the
greatest Tam of ruk his name is Rabbi
Yakov
Moshe and as I mentioned here so the
grandson was RAB who is the the dean of
of uh uh Seminary the Yu rinal
program and he was a rabbi in the Bronx
for many years that was his grandson and
his Bas matter is still in uh it's still
there in shed you can see that right
across from coming out the Wolfson
Towers if you ever shop there or go to
doctors over there you can stop in his
base
Mish and um so he write he has beautiful
he has about 19 I think it's 19 or 20
volumes now of What's called the M
marome on all different topics he was
again he emed the teachings of uh of R
cook they were very very they were very
very close very close friends if not you
know they're really best friends with uh
with one another and he speaks about the
role of the um a particular role that
can only be played by the what we would
call the posim he doesn't use the word
posim but he used those that are um
looking for the uh theim he calls them
theim those that are that have fallen
from their madrea those that are again
you have to find the right language we
don't want to call call them you know
Sinners or transgressors
the those that are have fallen to a
lower a lower level so what is their
role so he says the following we'll read
one line without we're not going to read
the whole paragraph here if you like on
your own um but he says as we're moving
closer and closer to Messianic days and
we're in that right now do you know that
we're in we're getting we're we're
getting closer when everything going on
this is not everything that you're
reading everything we're reading every
day everything that's happening in the
world this is not uh this is not chance
this is not coincidence we're moving
into a Messianic age we're in it says R
cook said we're in it already in 1910 so
certainly today but he says one of the
essential things that's needed during a
Messianic time is that we need to bring
the message of the Oneness of God of
Judaism or the wisdom of Judaism to the
world that's one of the things that
needs to happen by the way there rabbis
that are talking about this today Chev
has been no how many non-jews know that
there's such a concept as that that they
have seven Mitzvah that they are to live
by how many Jew how many Gentiles know
that very few why not well we haven't
spoken about it we haven't taught it
right no Jew how else would they know
about it Jews need to be teaching it so
they're rabbis today they're saying it's
time to start teaching it again they
need that's they need to know about it
and we are the teachers we're the ones
that have that knowledge we have the
mitzvot and we know about the sh Mitzvah
but
when does that happen well it's hasn't
happened for a long time maybe now it's
time for that to happen in general that
as we're moving closer to mashia we need
to spread the message of the Oneness of
God and the wisdom of the Torah so he
says what does this community and we
have a big community of those that are
the those that are not in the religious
Camp so he says they have RAB carab says
they have a very special role and an
essential role to play at this time and
let me read the words to you this is and
you'll you'll follow along we'll read
together four lines up from the bottom
of the first
paragraph the last word in the line you
see the
word we have amongst the Jewish people
and today again maybe we have a majority
in the land of Israel
today they are on they have fallen to a
lower Madre
you know what they do that the religious
Camp cannot do is that they can have a
talking about hash they can have hash on
the entire world in a way that we cannot
the religious Camp doesn't have the
language we're not on the internet we're
not on Instagram right we're not we're
not not we I I am but the that that
world right the religious world they're
they're they're not able to communicate
that message to the bigger world
who can communicate that message to the
bigger world it's not going to come out
of Mayar it's not going to come out of
gula it's not g not going to come out of
benab brck and if that's essential at
this time well who's going to do it well
there is a community that knows how to
do it now they may not be that
knowledgeable but in terms of and they
may not again in terms of observance of
mitzvot it may not be there in the full
sense but they're able to begin this
process of spreading the word of Israel
and the
Torah let's read
on that in this sense that they are
receiving a
um the um the the the old the the Yoke
of of the kingdom of God meaning that
they're doing something on behalf of of
hasem even though they understand it in
a you know not in the fullest
sense that they're disconnected doesn't
mean that they're fully disconnected
from that they their Community is a
community that doesn't have Torah in its
fullness
why that they're able to receive the
message from them
and they represent and we actually spoke
about this last week they represent that
community that was when they went in the
midbar that they were just outside of
the cloud there were people that were
less connected but there people and this
is very just fascinating to see how rbap
and again coming from this tradition R
cook of trying to find a a very special
that this community has and the that
they have and what they are able to do
is something that the religious
community is not able to do and to bring
the message of of Israel and of Torah
again maybe not in the full sense but to
begin to to trans um transmit that
message to the greater world and if you
think about that you have like certain
Stars I don't know I'm not so familiar
like a Jerry
Seinfeld right so he on on the internet
he's talking about Israel and his
support of Israel that has a tremendous
impact that has we're not able to do
that the Jews of mayaram can't can't do
that they can't bring that message to
the world is 10 million or 100 million
people that are watching when he's
defending Israel so you have
personalities like that and says that's
those personalities from that Community
have a tremendous um a tremendous
contribution to make at this time who
Cheryl sber yeah she also okay Cheryl
Samberg she's
everywhere former
CEO Facebook right Facebook woke up
Jewish one of these who went to sleep
woke up to very nice very nice no it's a
great example by the way and she's a
traditional woman Sheryl Sandberg
because I know she wrote about when her
her
husband right right her husband died
suddenly and she spoke about Shiva she
spoke about schim she's not a religious
woman but she observed many of the and
that again that that got out there and
here she's second in
Facebook she's got impressive resume
this documentary she made
oober most she's I didn't know that okay
so this is that's it okay so we all need
to look at that but that's exactly it a
Cheryl Sandberg Who quote unquote is
part of the the no mream or of the posim
community andam says well they have a
they have they have a they have an
essential role to play especially at
this time and to appreciate that role
and what they are able to do especially
pre mashiach when when it's all about
about bring the message of Hashem to to
the world yes AR but I think we all
individually have a part to play I think
that's we all do Friday night shop is
dinner I mean people come to shop come
to
your wow we this is beautiful I we we
all do no we all that's exactly it
that's exactly it those are some of the
things the hash that we can have
somebody actually the other day said to
me they they got off a bus and they
happened they had like 20 minutes before
they had a meeting and they saw the
other side of the street they were I
don't know leftist secular whatever you
want to call it that they were having a
bit of a a a gathering and he said and
he said let me go over and let me like
open a conversation with them and let
them see with somebody that's wearing a
k he is pis behind his ears and let them
see that I want to hear their and I said
that that's absolutely beautiful those
are the kind of things right the more
interaction that we can have and the
respect that we show one another as you
said Harriet the more that everyone does
it we can we can make a world of
difference yes I think
a to protect me my enemies okay good yes
yes let me um let me just end with two
uh two anecdotes and we'll we'll
conclude with uh conclude with this one
is and I'm sure many of you probably saw
it again talking about the again
everything is is the internet today and
what people are seeing online is uh one
of the G to is rasher Weiss here in
Israel today rashita and you may have
seen that clip where he uh he spoke
about visiting a soldier the soldier
that had lost uh he lost both legs and
he lost one arm one arm and he has a a
stump on the other arm and the questions
he said the questions that he was asked
and the questions about how to put on
Fillin and the question is how he's
going to hold alula and esrog and the
way to do Nas in the morning if he needs
to do
on the stump of his hand as well and he
said and I'm sure again many of you
heard it he said if a person like that
were to have left
Judaism if they would have rebelled if
they said I don't want any more of this
after going through this pain and this
suffering we would all understand that
and here is somebody that's asking all
of these Hal questions and the the faith
that this person has and the faith that
he has in Hashem and to continue to try
to be mtic in every Mitzvah so to see
the greatness of our to see the
greatness of soldiers right to see uh
the contribution that they're making the
faith that they have and for again in
our community the community that of the
of the PO Isel to appreciate what um
everyone's contribution everyone's uh uh
the the unique uh the unique aspects and
gifts that they're bringing to the table
we had um this past shabas in ouren we
had a guest from um from yiva University
Rabbi Hashi reichman who's won the
Rashia Isa who's been there for about 50
years one of the outstanding tamim of
RAB
salvic and we had him at our chabas meal
so he mentioned that he has a he has a
friend a very wealthy person who's
raising money now for sillin for
soldiers we've heard a lot about situs
making I'm sure many of us have have
made sitzes for soldiers they continue
to do so and he said that this friend of
his that he that he raised or again ACC
combination of money that he put in a
million dollars to buy enough filling
for Four soldiers $1 million I don't
know exactly how they're it's filling
today about $400 or $500 a pair so you
can do the math how many that is but
again what are we talking about we're
talking about tfillin that's needed for
soldiers that don't own a pair of
tfillin that they've never warn tfillin
that they now want tfillin that they
want to put on Fillin every day so
that's and then he said that he raised
that money and then there was need for
more he's raising now $5 million for
more fill there's more and more requests
for fill in from soldiers so this idea
that R cook felt that that community and
maybe that Community is beginning to as
I said maybe or mashia that this is the
beginning of the light of mashia that
they're seeing what's special about a
world of of mitzvot and observance
inem and I'll just end with the
following that rein again he was there
over shabas he's here for a couple of
weeks he said this week he's going to
Shilo I'm not sure if anyone has heard
about this he's going to visit Shilo
who's invited to Shilo because there are
five par adomas there are five red heers
that are in Shilo now where do these
five red heers come from from Texas
there's evangelicals that are uh
breeding cows that they believe that
they're part of the Messianic dream or
this process so they have sent over
these cows here so he's going to see he
was invited to come see these five red
heers
par Adas and the paruma again is the is
what we need for to be matah for the B
mdash for the building of B mikdash that
we're preparing for that so ruk says the
way to G the way to the
Messiah is through everyone seeing the
best in one another is not judging one
another if there's any hatred it's just
hatred towards the Mitzvah or to the
transgression of the Mitzvah of the a
but it's but it's absolute love absolute
love for uh for the person
all right everyone have a have a good
day
