what I'm going to try to do as we
proceed is to note a larger Motif which
perhaps is a little bit harder to see
because we don't necessarily collect all
the pieces but then again there's a
downside when you connect the pieces and
sometimes you may be tempted to connect
pieces which don't really need to be
connected because they're not really
pieces they're they're they're not
really there so that that's that's
always like the problem is that once you
see the patterns you fit everything to
the pattern you too much into the
pattern so we're going to talk about a
pattern and then you could decide at
some point if we're uh if we're
overdoing it or not but let's at least
begin we are in Source number one which
is
per and by the way note that P because I
don't know how many times it's said in
the Torah but that's a really really
popular verse the reason I know this is
because of something which is going to
come soon
wrote so essentially what we have over
here is again jumping in the middle of
this there's an there's an argument
which is put forth what was discussed
earlier is that we have a census and
then we know how many families we have
and then we have we're going to divide
the land according to those families and
then another voice a bat call as it were
comes out and says hold on a second you
know this not is not really fair cuz you
you're going to give it to each of the
children or each of the sons then what
happens to sons who only have daughters
why are they taken out why are they
excluded and so on and so so forth and
again one could begin to analyze larger
issues over here in terms of uh of
inheritance of what a potential fear
could be is that the sons will keep the
tribal affiliation while daughters will
marry arguably into a different tribe
and therefore it's a very good formula
all the daughters were included to lose
for a tribe to lose a large part of its
tribal land and not saying there are no
other solutions to this at the end of
the day the solution with the bot is
after they were told that they were
right was that they did marry within the
tribe as well but I'm saying that that
seems to be a larger concern over here
well it's the kind of concern that we
really don't identify with today because
the land of Israel in terms of its
tribal affiliation is not something
which you normally think of I will uh
again point out that for those who
believe that very soon or maybe already
in you know I don't know how you count
these things that most Jews are in
Israel at this point and therefore that
will cause various laws to become or
laws which are dependent on
land to become on a Torah level so what
they may not remember or may not know is
that according to many including the
rambam and Rashi and I can keep on going
because it's it's
it'si and it's what the way that Rashi
understood the B
is that let's say shmita for example
does not become a Torah law until
something else happens and that is the
majority of each one of the tribes are
in their tribal land so uh because
shmita is part of a larger ecosystem or
halakic ecosystem and that's YoVille and
yoil is each land returns back to the
original owner so therefore unless
YoVille is operative and that requires
the tribes on both sides of the Jordan
including ruen God and and minan God and
so on so that's not the case right now
so according to what the way that they
understand you need to there to be a
majority of each tribe in its tribal
area in order for these laws then to be
on a on a Torah level so as much as
people can say that oh look most Jews
live here which unfortunately is
sometimes a factor of Jews coming here
as much as it is the unfortunate part is
of people assimilating and disappearing
in in other places but that itself would
seem to be according to a lot of
opinions not enough so therefore someone
thinks that oh by the time the next
rolls around everything been Torah law
so I'll just say Hali and then I can get
arrested from the international court
for advocating taking both sides of the
Jordan so uh so I'll uh leave that to my
wife so bot are correct and therefore
what we have over here is a perhaps
complex perhaps not so complex issue of
inheritance and then that that's the
word that I want to stay with today it's
inheritance right so I don't know what
we're going to title this when there's a
will there's a relative or something
like that but when there's
a this is all about
inheritance so and then it goes on and
and it sets this into
law so the the daughters of put forth an
argument God agrees with them and a law
gets
established which by the way does
directly follow which means this is now
the next
thing so we have a similar kind of
phrase and God says to
Moshe go and take a look take a good
look because that's as close as you're
getting
that when the decree was given against
mosha and Aon Aon already has perished
so now Moshe is being told your turn is
coming very quickly and just in case you
lost
focuses telling us over that that was
the conclusion of the episode of what
happened with the water on the rock over
there and moshe's punishment is still
coming and here we have the reversal
it's the easy to miss
so that's that that's uh I I said it all
the words fit all the words are there
but it just a little little awkward I
mean if you're wondering are there any
other instances like this so there's at
least one which is very very similar you
definitely don't want me to tell you
where it is you'd ra you so for example
per you
have so that's that's pretty close
that's in and we will leave it at that
but anyway we have over here A reversal
and God and mosha says to God saying the
question is what's the lay more over
here and we're not getting into that
we're just pointing it out that there is
something very familiar and also
something very awkward about that P
if so we know that that turn of phrase
has been used before we'll try to find
it
soon
again that God needs God the god of
spirit of All Flesh which is again
really interesting turn of phrase there
needs to
be that there needs to be somebody in
charge and this is a real interesting
description or job description of why
you need someone someone to go out in
front of them and someone who will bring
them back as it
were
bring and bring them
in and let not
the flock or the congregation of God Be
Like A Flock that does not have a
Shepherd which is interesting I I I'm
just pointing out Source number two even
though you all know it that mosha
originally perim andot before he was
kind of coerced where God gave him an
offer that he couldn't refuse and he was
and he was told to take this leadership
position Moshe was in fact a Shepherd a
mosha own and that's when God comes and
says listen you know I I I got a job for
you
and and it's interesting because mosha
as we know very much tries to talk his
way out of it and now mosha is coming
back and saying well you know God you
know that the people need a leader now
now the question is what exactly does
mosha have in his mind and there are
various ways for people to read this
some want to read it directly in terms
of the N argument to make it very
personal and actually take mosha a
little bit out of character and say that
mosha was trying to set up his kids to
become to take over so which one are my
kids is taking over now I just want to
point out that other than the word Nala
being used right before and then the
connection over here because this is
right afterwards I think it's a very
weak argument to make I'm again I'm not
saying that that no one has ever said it
or try to convince that that's the case
it just would be out of character so
then even the out of character part of
it then you say well yeah mosha never
does it otherwise which why he needs to
now do it now he's told that's it it's
the end and now mosha is a little
concerned and let's admit something
mosha is not really uh he his children
are not well known his children are not
really involved salvic like to say that
mosha could not be a regular father or
husband for that matter because he had
responsibility for all of CLA Israel and
he have responsibility for all of cloud
you can't quote unquote play favorites
and there rather you need just to take
respect responsibility for everybody
equally so to say that mosha is really
acting out of character right now is
both the argument for and the argument
against this and uh so I'm I'm just
going to leave it at that on the other
hand mosha could be putting forth a
different argument not a personal one
but let's take mosha at his word you
can't have the people of God which
without a leader so now mosha is turning
around and saying so who's going to be
the leader not that he's looking for
himself and by the way you could nuance
and you could Nuance the first wouldn't
saying and saying well you know you said
you need me so now how can you replace
me and therefore it's not for M it's
it's for I'm Israel and and yeah there
were those who try to take it that way
as well or you can just take it the way
that it really sounds and that is that
that he's looking as a leader should I
mean that this itself is important there
is sometimes a terrible terrible
consequences when a leader or C CEO or
Rabbi or a Reb or whatever it may be
does not create some kind of a system
whereby there will be somebody else to
take over sucession a
succession which is there and everyone
knows and everybody's clear what you'll
end up having inevitably will be fights
and or you can have Discord or you can
end up having uh having a situation that
uh that the group just ends up not
lasting afterwards so it's interesting
that that that mosha o here and I would
love to read this in the most positive
way and I have no reason not to and on
top of everything else let's let's look
at God's
response of all the candidates that
exists let's admit it we're not shocked
about Yoshua for a couple reasons one is
we read this last year and and it said
it last year so therefore you know some
of us we still remember what it said
last year so we're not completely um
surprised and some of us were not
surprised cuz we know that after Dum
there will be safe for yahushua and
that's going to come next and some of us
you know a little more Rabin will
remember
per yes and uh I may want to come back
to that as well but either way we know
that yua is there so this is not
terribly surprised but but here we see
God Cho God says take
yes now the first thing that I want to
know especially because we're going to
have another term very very soon is what
the turn of phrase AER Ru means or more
specifically what does Ru mean over here
Ru means spirit Spirit can be can mean
different
things over here is he talking about a
physical trait or is he talking about a
spiritual trait is he talking about
somebody who is very motivated and very
strong and very uh and he's a good
leader he's got all the he's got he's
got what needs to be a leader or is it
talking about something which is more
spiritual and and by the way I think
part of our challenge is going to be a
there's an A A and A B here a to what
extent is anybody taking over going to
be a replacement of mosha in right
taking the place of mosha and and
therefore needs as much as or close as
you can mosha traits mosha has multiple
traits so which one of Mosa's traits is
most important and B we're about to
enter into a new reality it's not out of
E Egypt and having fights with parro and
standing by seni and then praying for
people at various times it's entering
the land and Conquest so are we looking
for the same type of leadership or
perhaps different times in history we
need different types of leadership if
I'll make a semi-political statement I
think that uh in Israel There is almost
inevitably a overc concentration of
former generals who are involved in all
types of political leadership and I'm
not even going to say right now is it
good or bad I think by the way it's bad
but aside from that it creates a certain
type of group think because they're all
coming from the same kind of perspective
and and for that matter can happen in
any types of leadership if everybody
went to Harvard Business School they're
all going to be essentially trained in a
similar type of way even though they're
all individuals but there's going to be
a certain type of group think over there
so I'm going to say in any type of
leadership positions it becomes
interesting are we have coming in with
diverse opinions or are they essentially
the same opinion being articulated by
different people and it could be that in
a in a country like this we need people
who are not only coming from a military
perspective perhaps we need people I'm
saying perhaps but perhaps we need
people coming from other perspectives on
the other hand and then you find
yourself in war and then you have a war
cabinet and then you very much want
people who understand what really is
taking place militarily so I'm just
pointing out that all of this is uh is
sometimes complex but getting back to
this point of leadership so what kind of
leader is it that mosha asked for and
what kind of leader does God respond to
and then more specifically what did this
particular turn of phrase mean when it
says and now you're going to place your
hands upon him that's really interesting
turn of phrase we don't know how literal
to take that how figur will take that
but what it does mean is that you should
end the argument and end the discussion
as far as who it is that's taking over
because you are going to the one who's
going to appoint or even anoint if you
will this next
leader and now let's go even further
both in terms of the religious
leadership elzar in terms of the entire
Community you're going to stand and
you're going to command him what this
word Vita means is also interesting over
here in front of their eyes and then
paku as something else and this other
Dynamic is interesting
now here it says you're going to give
something of yours to him you're going
to give from your hod you're going to
give from your glory and again I'm going
back to the question I asked earlier are
we discussing something right here which
is more of a physical kind of trait is
or we talking about something which is a
more spiritual kind of a
trait going back to what mosha had asked
for who's going to lead the people going
out and how they going to go out which
now God is actually saying this in a
spiritual sense yosua is going to do it
based upon a Divine instruction based
upon the so here you're going to have a
combination of various elements I have
not described all of them yet but that's
going to be what this new leader would
be
like and Moshe once again really Moshe
the the servant of God does things
immediately when God asks him to he
goes and he places his hands upon Him
and He commands
him as God had said so therefore when I
would say over here I have issues of
inheritance I don't know or succession
but there is a commonality between the
two of them and as I said some try to
push the second one a little bit further
to match into the first one and I don't
have to do that but I can say that
there's essentially the same concern
which takes place in both of these
instances so what we have over here are
two inheritance succession stories one
is about the land of Israel and one is
about the person who's going to lead
them into the land of Israel and again
that's what we're seeing right now now I
just want to go back a little bit and
what we're going to do is we're going to
try to fill in a little bit more
information about yosua and to try to
understand why Yeshua should have been
the obvious candidate for all of us and
Source number three is something that we
all should have remembered and this is
the other place that the same turn of
phrase is used the only place turn of
phrase is used this is in the middle of
our
episode where God says to mosha and Aon
know step aside and we're going to wipe
out all of them
again this is the same turn of phrase of
of the god of the spirit of All Flesh
and so on But realize that there's also
a succession issue over here because but
but by force that what korak is trying
to do or perhaps d air and perhaps the
250 they all trying to take away or
become the successors of either mosha or
Aon either by replacing as we think that
D of were doing or replacing Aon the way
that we think that korak and perhaps the
250 were doing and over there most use
the same ter of phrase as I said you can
Nuance that and do what you want with
that what you want with that and build V
Torah based on this on the two times
that that phrase is used and what the
similarity or dissimilarity may be going
back to the question I raised before so
what exactly did that phrase mean back
in P what did it say it
says it said
so over here the tangum unus again this
is unusual because he generally is very
literal over here he felt the need to
add in a word you'll all see the word
immediately so he added the word n so he
understands the spirit that spirit means
that his ability of Prophecy so
therefore God is saying to Moshe take
yosua a man who is full of the spirit of
Prophecy now I go back to the various
hats that mosha wears one of them is
that Moshe is the greatest Prophet who
ever lived so therefore how could the
man who is the greatest Prophet who ever
lived or ever will live ever be replaced
well here's a man who's a prophet maybe
not the same level but here is a man who
could take over um on the other hand if
this does mean prophets so then we're
going to have a little bit of a problem
and that is so what does it mean two
verses later
in so now what is this hod as opposed to
the R so what else is mosha giving so
Rashi has a real interesting
interpretation of
this that's the glow that Moshe had now
this this will then become an entire
interesting theme whereby in kazal
they're going to compare Moshe to the
Sun and Yeshua to the Moon which again
goes back to to everything mean it goes
back to the to the to the prophecy as
well is that mosha is the main Prophet
Yeshua is going to be a Min Pro or or
the what I quoted before from p vot
Yeshua so Yeshua is almost as authentic
as you can get but you're just missing
one step and that's mosha bringing it
from SII and and then Yeshua so Yeshua
is this conduit whereby something the
power of mosha so but what he's adding
is is this glow that Moshe has which
presumably is a little bit beyond simply
I'm sorry if using the word simply his
ability of Prophecy oraely lots of
people of Prophecy we'll see that in a
moment but how many of them see have
this you know glory of God upon them so
therefore God is saying to mosha you
know give him a little of that you know
Glory dust if you will and now and and I
don't want to say fairy dust and and and
he throws it upon Yeshua and now Yeshua
suddenly glows as well so that's just a
real
[Music]
interesting so just in in case you
thought I was making that up or even
making up that connection absolutely not
that's exactly how Rashi continues it
again that's another but he plugs it in
over
here so that again is interesting yua
already has the prophecy right two
verses earlier as the tarum points out
but not everybody knows it people can
look at him and say okay it's Yeshua and
again there's a bit more to talk about
Yeshua but not realize that Yeshua
actually has the same now question is
what word or phrase to you us to
describe what was just now described
it's this uh it's this blessing from God
and you know what I'm not going to go
any further because we already told
something it is this glow about that
Moshe has that that people see and this
realization that mosha is on such a high
level they can't even look at him so may
perhaps with Yeshua now they're going to
realize that he is on such a high level
even if they perhaps can look but they
realize that there's something very
mosha likee about him which seems to be
exactly the way that Rashi is pushing
this look at the
so the the way that he's taking it is TR
again it's not as clear if he's saying
like Rashi is looking at something a
little bit perhaps more metaphysical he
say no treat him with honor make him the
king and waiting make him the person
that everyone's going to know give him
honor which means let and which also
will take us back to but what was Yeshua
prior to this because he seems to have a
very good position before this I I will
point out that rashi's understanding of
saying that it's this light so if if you
follow the gamar with the light right
the the light or that Moshe has the
gamar sees that as being the remnant of
all the crowns that all of the people
received by herena when they said Nas
vishma and then when they send with a
golden calf keep all this in mind this
is all going to be important and when
they send with the golden calf it's
taken away and then all of that
collectively becomes upon mosha so mosha
now has the collective glow of
600,000 people and then that glow of
mosha which is you know obviously it's
it's incredible but remember now it's
connected to the crowns so as much as
I'm saying oh Rashi said that's the glow
and the sperno said no treat him with
Mal they may not be as different from
one another as you may have heard the
first first time I went through them one
is saying I'll treat him nicely and the
other is saying right going back to in
order Rashi is saying oh he's going to
have a glow on him and the SW is saying
I'll treat him with royalty it may be
that no now he has the crown on him as
well which is what is glowing and
therefore it's much more of a
metaphysical thing even though there's
also this obviously this way that he
needs to be treated as uh as
well the the ALS plays with the
idea that perhaps mosha
he's going to say two things to us let's
do it in order the first thing he's
going to say is that no this should not
come as a shock course the is thear and
the is the Rashi on the and that is that
we already heard the prophecy of that's
read it was already known he's saying to
mosha so mosha over here saying you know
so just now read this into it because
the ALS just did something really
interesting mosha knows mosha knows
maybe everybody knows or maybe not
everybody knows but mosha knows mosha
knows that this is what's going to
happen and now he's turning to God and's
saying there is this uh there's
something that still needs to be done
and God says okay make it formal let's
yeah there was a rumor in the camp there
was a prophecy in the camp there's a
voice in the can and now let's formalize
it and you're going to appoint him as
the king in Waiting then the AL turns it
around and says but
and this is a couple this is like it's
not the next word in the in the AL it's
a little further down the line and still
in Source number seven bottom of the
page and he's saying that maybe Moshe
actually over here is praying and he's
not praying for himself he says the
people need him and and and again
there's a funny thing about all of this
mosha is the most modest person and just
ch he is the most modest person doesn't
mean that he doesn't know who he is and
he's saying how could okay fine I
deserve to be punished but how can you
leave the people without a leader and
he's saying it that there's a
possibility of reading this as if Moshe
is saying that no maybe God now is going
to reconsider what was uh told before
it's worthwhile looking at this
collection ofs vers ver number eight end
of D this is it this is the end of the
Torah right there's a couple verses but
this is essentially the end how do you
know it's the end look
at M first thing to note is that Moshe
dies and we are in erit moav which the
only reason I'm making a little bit of a
deal about that because in Pinas as well
we're we're going to come back to Moab
Moab is in the you know in the
background of everything which has
happened just just
now the other thing is not just moav is
in the background in this week's par is
also there in the
background and so
[Music]
on so again is being mentioned
here yeah so MOS been dead now Mo this
is 30 days after Moses died which is why
I'm going to stress yes this is the end
of the Torah
by the way that same word is used now
but it added another
word so perhaps maybe perhaps maybe we
need both perhaps maybe we should have a
we should interpret the other Ru based
upon this and maybe not like go
like the tum went and said that that
was but now hold it he had by himself
naturally
or and all that I'm doing right now is
I'm just pointing out that maybe this
should be read together with that to
help us understand a little bit
more so I'm I'm just pointing out that
the prophecy issue yua taking over all
of this should be staring at you why
because it's staring at you it's all
right here and and don't ignore the end
of devarim and more than that we should
be paying attention to it in Source
number
nine there's another thing which is in
the background of all of this and this
is bidur peric yud and you'll see why
this is important as well and and as we
do this we're going to start going
further and further back but over here
mosha turns to somebody and he says that
that we need you because we need and for
very specific things which actually
sounds remarkably similar to what God
Said to what mosia says to God as far as
why we need a leader to take them out
and to take them back and to know when
to travel and so on very functional um
part of the leadership
position we're going to the land which
by the way is exactly the issue in this
week's par we're going to the land and
now we need somebody who's going to be
lead and Mos turns to so that's really
interesting why he's doing
this so now what exactly does that mean
compared to what mosha described over
here as the need for the leader and
therefore what exactly is mosha saying
and then just compare immediately
afterwards ah look at that they have
other spiritual things that can direct
them to where they're going they have
the Aron and they have the clouds and
thenon and so on we're told as the it's
really as the Aron travels right that
should be the name of this story in the
desert as the own travels right and as
the the cloud travels and now we're
wondering what exactly is mosha thinking
one is that if again we'll argue that
kov vro so and earlier he had told mosha
that you need there to be at least some
type of uh delegation to delegate so
maybe now he's delegating and he's
saying yeah you know why don't you help
me with this particular thing and maybe
that's what yra was hinting at all along
you can't do this yourself you need
somebody else you need somebody else
with leadership experience you need
somebody else who's been a Cohen midan
by the way now we're back to midan in
terms of the background of this which
makes all of this a little bit more
interesting again moov and midan Mo and
midan just keep all of this in mind and
he's turning to him to help and at the
end of the day you know who actually
leads them or supposed to is it going to
be kav is it the clouds or is it mosha
is the one who's supposed to lead but
notice that that was mid with peric yud
and then in peric Ali we have this whole
demand of the people and they need all
these things and mosha now turns to God
similar MOS elhem remember we were
looking for that it's not the lay M El
hasem and here he says you know why do
you treat me so badly why do you put all
this upon me why you give me all of this
thing and you know can I do all of this
so it's interesting because a moment ago
he asked orro to help with this
particular position
and now he says I can't do this by
myself and what's God's response God's
response is okay and then he gathers 70
people and what happens in the context
of these 70 people what we find is that
two people continue and they prophesies
in the camp and who are those two people
El and who responds and and by the way
let's just read that verse because it's
really good let where should we start
let's look at p c Source 10 C so this
peracute Al of C but
so now you also realize why the tarum
understood that the ru the spirit of
Prophecy goes together because it does
go together over here so even though I
brought as possibly a counter argument
over here is where you see to one would
think it's connected
which is upon them of
Prophecy which is a real which that
exactly is the turn of phrase we're
looking for that Yeshua who's been Moses
now whatever the word sh
means it sounds like he has been moshe's
servant from from back in the day
you know
silence says
to we're back to the here so I'm going
to say it again is that now we realize
that if we're going to talk about Moshe
and yosua and talk about prophecy and
talk about giving over of your spirit
all of those elements are here all those
elements were there in and all those
elements are in our paraa so now I just
gave you three different places to to
look at Rashi of course on the spot
tells us and we could have looked for
many places for this we could have
looked in the gar or the mid and
21 what was in Source 11 what was the
source 11 what was the content of the
prophecy of el that we already saw this
cited before that Moshe going to die and
Yeshua is going to take over and take
them into the into the land um
let's just go one step further because
we just now looked at pericu perak Alf
and now perak bet in bidur which just
continues along the prophecy issue and
now um Mo now Miriam and Aon turn and
they say what did God only speak to to
him and God and His God's response is
that no you're not the same level of
prophets and P this is in ver
12 I speak to him face to face which is
of course what we just now saw at the
end of so what happened to the last 5
minutes we we realize that there is a
lot more Intrigue here there's more
Intrigue in who else is a prophet and
lots of people are prophets most which
is everyone's a prophet we see that this
idea of the ruach is probably more
connected to prophecy than we perhaps
realized in the beginning maybe we
thought that the tarum uncus overstepped
a little bit he doesn't seem to overstep
at all when you realize how often the
word r over here is used along the way
we did meet yosua who over here is
described in perhaps a fuller way than
he is in any other place and he is the m
of Moshe from back in the day so that
and that's all that we know about him we
don't know about his prophecy or his
abilities or anything else but there is
still nonetheless something else that I
would uh suggest that we need to pay
attention to go again going backwards in
uh well it's a little backwards because
realize now we are we just now looked at
peric bet and now peric giml so this is
actually all in sequence in per giml of
midbar which is the par which is where
the spies are introduced and among all
the people of the called the so-call
spies so now we're told yes that there's
another person yosua and originally he
wasn't Yoshua and now he becomes yosua
in Source number 14 right afterwards
we're then told right so so again Source
14 is peric yud so again per bet and now
we learn about how Yeshua is the
successful spy the one who comes back
after having successfully
defended God moshe's Mission ER Israel
Isel and if you need to read a little
bit yes
so they're the ones who are the
dissenting opinion they're the ones who
come up and they say exactly what it is
that needs to be said they're the ones
who claim that the land is in fact a
wonderful land and they
continue Yu as the name of God in his
Essence now says if God Wills
itan says
by the it's interesting God is going to
lead us so it's also interesting to go
back and think of mosha already knows
that yosua is the one who's going to
lead them in and it's yosua God is going
to lead and Yeshua gets the sense that
God is leaving does Yeshua already have
somewhat of the spirit of God with him
but now let's go back cuz all of you
have been so eager so eager so we'll go
back to the first time that we see yosua
and that's in Source 15 but
immediately before that the verse said
again again a water and rock incident
which is interesting and then Amal comes
and attacks them and the word and rock
incident ends you know is god with us or
not and then then they're attacked by
amalik and mosha chooses Yeshua and
right there we need to pause and to stop
and to think to contemplate and say okay
why is Yeshua over here the one who is
chosen one possibility that some of you
are going to try if you're overly
impacted by theological considerations
you say well of course Yoshua because
Yeshua is from yosf and we know that ysf
defeats ASA and amalik and I'll say
that's great was he the only person in
Yosef or were there any other candidates
and you'll have to admit there were
probably other candidates which then
leads me back to the same question and
that is so why yoshu and I'm going to
give the simple obvious answer which we
kind of danced around all day today and
I didn't say it but we of course we
should have said it it must be and this
is the first time we meet him it must be
that yosua is a very strong Brave
Soldier okay just just say say say what
it is his first time we meet him he's
chosen to lead a military battle to go
and defend the Jewish people so who are
you going to choose you're going to
choose somebody who knows military
strategy you're going to choose somebody
who's going to lead his soldiers the guy
who's going to come and say AAR which
means essentially he is he's going to be
the Ramat right he is the one who is in
Special Forces if you will he's the guy
who is part of the elite unit and he's
leading the elite unit and he's the one
who's chosen when there is a moment of
fear to defend the people against the
attack which is against them so I'll say
it again who is Yeshua the first piece
of information that we have about Yeshua
is that Yeshua is a warrior that's what
we know about Yeshua he's a warrior
that's the only word you should be
thinking right now that he's a warrior
here at the end of this section though
we're told
in and all that's great he is Victorious
he weakens them he stops the the
onslaught write it Mark it down write it
down which means Yeshua is not
a leader he's not somebody just for one
time but and disposable but rather he's
going to be back in the story this is
what we call foreshadowing which means
we're told right now yesu is going to be
back I'm GNA God I'm going to wipe
out and so on and so forth so over here
we have Yeshua introduced as a leader
he's introduced as a military leader
he's introduced as a warrior and God
says when we need to continue this
Mission we're going to pull him back out
so I'm going to say it again I did not
need the NOA of elad and made to tell me
that when it comes to the next chapter
in Jewish history that the person who
should be leading them right I already
should have known it right over here
from parot now this doesn't mean
necessarily that Yeshua is to replace
Moshe because it could have been the
exact same Dynamic Moshe prays mosha is
in the background mosha is the spiritual
leader and he's the warrior if you want
he's Bara and Moshe is RAB AKA if you
want because but that that seems to be
exactly what it's saying over here but
now when we get up to this point and I I
try to say this but not clearly say it
before now we're at a new stage of
history mosha is about told that you're
about to die and now the next thing that
we need is the conquest and now we need
someone who's going to take over so now
what do you need do you need somebody
right now who's going to be an economist
somebody who's going to bring up you
know in in order to create you know
really good economy is that what's
necessary right now well that's an
important thing but that's a little bit
down the line you need somebody who
knows how to deal with the unions well
okay I'm going to say it again think
about all the things that a leader can
possibly do and you know what we need
right now right now we need a warrior
and therefore the and therefore the CH
therefore the choice of Yeshua becomes
one which should of course have been
obvious it only became stronger when
we're told and now the addition of the N
vad Maad is not the thing about yua is
going to lead them in is not the
surprising part the only surprising part
is Moshe which means it could have been
that Yeshua leads them in but with mosha
but now we're told that mosha dies and
Yeshua leads them in so again that that
should give us a little bit more
knowledge a little bit more information
but let's let's yeah so yeah so the
commentaries ask that and they say okay
no once his name is gets changed to
Yeshua so then we go back and we always
call him Yeshua but it's telling you and
all one say that mosha called him Yeshua
it doesn't mean that mosha called him
Yeshua then it could be that mosha
called him Yeshua maybe he called him
right now before he go to battle
especially with the background being
that they say you know it's got with
those or so you need somebody and and
and also noticed immediately afterwards
if we're still there then at the end of
um we're in Source 15 at the
end so therefore go into this point
about God's name not being complete
God's is not complete God's name is not
complete and therefore Yeshua gets a bit
of God's name but it's also not complete
and we need and we can discuss or argue
that but that that's part of What
suggests that perhaps Yeshua was ready
Yeshua here the other time that Yeshua
is going to stand out now we're just
going to do this for the sense of
completion is going to be sources 16 and
18 but let's obviously start start with
16 it's um and and a surprising Rashi
which will be 17 s 16 is perid over here
starts off mosha sorry
so we're told who who the leaders
are that's what is we're told
then
okay so we we we're seeing who was
invited and who's there and
thenar and mosha is invited to come to
the mountain and then says
so his servant so therefore as we were
told once before which is after this
actually that Yeshua has been moshe's
you know right-hand man or he's his
servant if you will we find him over
here and I'll just suggest something
which perhaps is obvious perhaps not
maybe it's not obvious is that till now
the only thing we knew about Yeshua he
is he's a warrior so now mosha is about
to go up on perhaps a mission which
could be perceived as being dangerous so
who does he take with him he takes him
his own secret service you don't want to
trust you know anybody else we'll just
we'll just we'll just leave it at we'll
just leave it at that who do you take
you take a warrior with you you take the
person who is the most able and the
strongest and uh and and bravest and
he's your and he's the guy who comes
with you so I'm saying this in terms of
the
obvious which of course is not obvious
to anybody
um right
and says okay to the elders you know any
issues come up you just you know talk to
Aon and and we know how that works out
but Yeshua is not there Yeshua is really
much more halfway up the mountain with
mosha now rashi's great over here
because whenever Rashi does this it it
completely floors you because you're
saying oh I don't I thought I understood
this I don't understand anything
butash writes
from Yeshua KH what's Yeshua doing here
he goes I have no idea what Yeshua is
doing here and I already explained what
Yeshua is doing here and therefore we
have but but it could be that what Rashi
is really saying is on a different level
it could be that Rashi is articulating
that this not in terms of functionally
what he's doing there but really under
whose authority is he's there because
God was really specific in terms of
giving giving instructions the other
time obvious now this all everything
that was obvious is in Source 18 per why
why L that's when mosha comes down from
the
mountain and
so and what is he hearing he's hearing
the one second what is he hearing he's
hearing the whole golden calf
celebration
this is a sound of Battle of War taking
place now why would yosua of all people
hear War because that because he's the
warrior so the warrior yosua hears all
kinds of things there must be a b battle
taking place and Mos
says there's not there's no sounds of
Victory or of of
losing and then they come closer to the
to to to what's going on and then mosha
breaks the and and by the way I don't
know to what extent you ever we'll have
to ask AI to make a picture of this also
now of Moshe breaking the L we'll see if
they caught that Yeshua should be in
that same picture Yeshua should be right
there as he's breaking it and of course
then you have to imagine what's Yeshua
doing he's going to try to stop him not
try to stop him or is he the M Moshe so
all of this is interesting and all that
we just now did is even though Rashi
said I don't know what this is doing
here we just now strengthened why who
yua is and he is the warrior the
military leader and that's why he goes
up and that's what he hears when he
comes down and he's there to protect
mosha he's moshe's he's Mosa's uh body
body bodyguard right muscle he's Mosa's
muscle right right so
so again maybe I just took you to a
place that you weren't thinking the ran
says right over here Rashi said I have
no idea what's going on
rash it must be that he's one of the 70
because otherwise he should not be here
at all
so now he just turns this into the rabbi
and the student and of course as he
continues the student accompanies the
rabbi and of I'm sure there's so many
images in the Ran's mind right now to
see
that and then don't bother me about
later on we're back in Bal exactly where
we were before where the elders end up
getting punished Kain
because yesu was worthy so it's
interesting so what the raban really did
over here and we can discuss this and
argue about this because I really don't
feel comfortable um where Rashi says I
don't know and I say I do know and the
ran gives one read on it and I have a
different read on it because who in the
world am I to argue with Rashi and the
ran but I just tell you very simply what
I'm doing I'm reading Yeshua in terms of
a person who starts one way and then
ends up developing or being blessed with
other gifts as well and what they're
doing is they're looking at the later
gifts not reading it back into the
earlier stories and I'm pretty sure that
what we noted along the way is that
there are gifts that are given at
certain times and therefore there's a
change in the character that happens
which means that yua is somebody who
undergoes some type of a metamorphosis
if you look at the the NV in Source
number 20 he also seems that he can't uh
move away from a certain
conception which means till now every
time mosha goes up and there were m
going up and going down we never saw
Yeshua go with him only
now it must be that God had said it to
Moshe because it can't be that that that
he just does this on his
own it can't be that just by himself he
does this
so the just did the same thing he turned
into who eventually is the one who
receives the
T and so on so he goes on to that same
path that same idea of Yoshua who
eventually becomes someone I do want to
read to you something which the rambam
writes again clear clearly based on that
first turn of phrase
in this is the the introduction you
don't have this in front of you of the r
to
the this is like middle the
sent instructed the elders and then yua
elders and then Yeshua
MOS taught to the seven the elders so
now just remember because this is
actually what the had in his mind as he
was telling us what he was saying is
that yeah mosha is one of the the elders
clearly there were three special people
who were on a different level than
everyone else and who's that by the way
not his own kids who is it elazar pinhas
and Yoshua
osua three people learn but only one
received that's just so interesting it
means that he's the only one who had the
real
Authority mosu
which means is the one you can have
somebody with lots and lots of students
but he's the one who's going to follow
so I I just want to point out what we
just now did we just now read the RAM
and read the the NV who's Thea and we
read the rambam who's writing a book
about H and they're reading the MOs
relationship about the Torah and
therefore mosha goes up the mountain and
Yeshua comes with him because Yeshua is
the real student the authentic student
and Yeshua is is the closest person he's
with him there all the time and there's
lots of things to say about this
additional relationship that Yeshua has
the midash articulates that he set up
all the chairs in the tent yeah the mid
midash says it like that which means he
was there and he saw mosha during his
downtime and he learned certain things
about Torah that no one else saw but
it's not just that it's that but all of
this is looking at yosua in terms of the
person who he ends up becoming I'm going
again stress something
that there is this metamorphosis that
takes out takes place but there's
something else that we need to see now
so far I've spent 58 minutes two more
minutes I spent 58 minutes or so dealing
with two points of inheritance right one
isot and at this point that's obvious
the other is mosha giving over to Yeshua
which ends up becoming one which is all
encompassing but but again we can think
about in context which one is most
important right now you could say who's
going to take over mosha rabenu so
that's Yeshua that's the rambam and
others on the other hand who's going to
take over in terms of who's going to be
the
warrior that's obvious we knew that
sinote who's going to be the warrior
because that's who Yeshua is and maybe
that helps us with various episodes that
we see here along the line including
choosing to send him as one moram it's
like a no-brainer who am I going to send
I'm going to send you know my chief of
staff my Ramat cow my special for's guy
my guy I'm s Mo MOS is saying I'm send
I'm sending my guy where there should be
no question about all that but then
Yeshua under goes a transformation and
God says you know what we're going to do
with yosua we're going to give him
prophecy we're going to give him Spirit
we're going to give him all kinds of
things and therefore yosua who changes
becomes something else and that's what's
really interesting so now with one
minute left I want to point that two
more possible inheritance issues over
here one is we're not going to talk
about it but it is ramban which is in
Source number 22 it's
about
Saker and the ramban reads it very
differently from everything we know
about it and he also sees AAL issue over
here as well I'm just telling you that
she's mentioned in this paraa and the
ran reads it and ran reads it
differently than everybody else but he
also has look just look at the end of
the second line in the
ran should just read read realized he
thinks that the Sak ISU is one of nakala
as well stop Full Stop on that and now
we're going to go back to the beginning
of the par or the end of last week's
paraa and that's when the bote Moab show
up and then this princess from midan
show up now midan and moav were both
there in the beginning last week starts
with moav they bring in midan midan
disappears and now Mo no I I I don't
want to be disrespectful now and you
know whenever I say that that I'm not
being truthful
but the fact that bote moav behave the
way they do should not be the biggest
surprise in the world you know the these
their origin story as a
people their origin story as a people or
or people I don't know how do you want
to put it should I should I try to be
nice I'll be nice I'll be nice I'll be
nice they're
they're they're very giving girls right
and and by the way the worded is
actually used later on in VRA to
describe inappropriate relationships
which is actually interesting because
you look at the people who surround
aaham who's a real bed and there seems
to be with others this breakdown in
terms of morality as all boundaries are
broken I mean in the 60s which some of
you remember I'm not saying that you
remember more than I'm about to say is
that they there was uh they spoke of
free love so I remember one rabbi said
what they call free love we call right
this is this is not free love as much as
its inappropriate behavior so I'm going
to say it
again I'm I I know I knew that I knew
that I I know I know and we're not going
to we we we we're not going there but
the and therefore root that's exactly
the point about root to then do in the
proper way is part of the story but over
here what you have is just a lack of
boundaries and the fact
the fact that they show up with and that
these people are
sleeping okay that should not have been
a shocking turn of phrase for us say
yeah that's what they do the problem
though is what is midan doing over here
and now let's just note something about
midan there is a Rashi later on in par
matot in Source 24 and it says that
you're going to go out to go to battle
against midan and
by the way I could have said who should
have led the way over here it should
have been Yeshua over here but no
instead we're we're choosing at this
point now how in the world did we just
now get
to and and oh because M was involved in
that as as we know from the from the
verse itself I mean if you look at uh
Source number 2
where it
says right go and sell him and then it
says
right
26 and they got
involved so in the middle suddenly the
get involved and you have to ask
yourself how in the world do they get
involved over here as well the midan
show up on why they here now the first
thing I will say which I'm sure I've
said before is the
they show up in places not supposed to
show up and that's the common
denominator on top of that I can say is
these guys are businessmen and then what
everything they can make a buck they're
there it's not enough there's another
point over here let's go all the way
back now who is midyan midan is the son
of Abraham from the
benur PK says that God gives sorry that
abam gives everything by the way yusha
he gives everything that he has to Y and
he sends them away they don't get a
yusha why don't they get it yusha
because Y is chosen why is y is chosen
well Y is chosen now Y is supposed to be
better and Yakov is better and am are
better and they're going to get the
Torah and they're going to be better
isn't it interesting that when Jews do
horrific things that midan shows up
which means maybe that's exactly in
their interest not that they're going to
show they're better but show that amus
is just as bad oh
there's which by the way just as easily
could have been what are you talk
somebody else and another a brother
could have come over midan could have
come over and said you can't do that
he's your brother take take it from me
because we're relatives you don't treat
Brothers this way somebody else could
have said that and and Yehuda almost
said it but he just got it wrong which
is completely tragic and now you'll say
oh we're going to go back to rud again
with Yehuda yes yes that that that that
is absolutely connected over here but
let's let's stop is that what we could
have over here is a really interesting
play by mid done to become deserving of
yusan to become deserving of The
Inheritance why am Israel act just as
bad as we do which means that we're sent
away because we're not as good well look
how bad they are and look who helps
facilitate them to be bad so oh so
they're right there to make sure that it
happens when it comes over here that
sinning with they're right there and
they're going to lead the way in order
to make sure that happens you say but
how can you do something so bad because
that's exactly the point because am
Israel is no better than we are and I'm
going to say it again over here we're
about to find out that what's that
what's really at stake and is going to
happen next is going to be the
divisional land in terms of inheritance
I'm saying I can read this earlier
section as an inheritance story as well
as going back to their origin story and
their origin story is be sent away and
now they come back and they say well
we're back and you know you guys are no
better than we are so almost turning to
so why exactly are we not inheriting the
same way that you are why why are we
inferior why are he not the same which
therefore would be a whole another way
of reading how midan shows up the the
other thing that that we should note
about Yoshua is that somehow he avoids
the two major sins that took place he
avoids theel because he's halfway up the
mountain and he avoids theim which is
not as easy so therefore he say so what
do Yeshua ever do well he stayed away
from trouble sometimes staying away from
trouble is not a very simple thing and
again just think about it what a way to
define as a leader well he has a clear
record well how hard is that well that's
not such that's not such an easy thing
but what we've seen today is Yeshua is
going to inherit Yeshua is going to lead
in in order to do that Yeshua needs to
become somebody who he wasn't
necessarily in the beginning he starts
as a warrior but now what happens when
you take a warrior and then you give him
Spirit what happens to take a warrior
and he gets prophecy what happens in a
warrior and he has modesty he has
humility he has humility and he's the
one who learns Torah with Mosher raenu
to the extent that he is the one who
receives the Torah well you you correct
you have a d h type of a figure and
that's why I'm saying is that Yeshua
becomes so much more interesting which
means instead of reading backwards and
say everything we know at the end is
there all the way from the beginning why
don't we read it in the proper sequence
and see how Yeshua develops along the
way and then you realize why Yeshua is
chosen he is the and it wasn't obvious
because till he has prophecy until he
has has Torah until he has everything
else but as as we continue on it emerges
that of course he's the right person of
course he's the one with all of these
skills and of course he's the person who
is more appropriate than anybody else to
lead to lead Amis to the next chapter
