[Music]
ah good everyone it's that time of year
again it's the 2024
uran brought to you by Ura and it's uh
amazing programs of kir reim tonight we
have uh as I'm joined by my co-host for
this hour Rabbi leafer good RAB leafer
how are you amazing you know and uh it's
really really exciting because this year
the prizes are better than over
mill, in prizes being given away at the
end of the night uh and we're going to
hear so much about uh so many of the
wonderful programs that Ura has and the
wonderful work that Ura does I know
people out there uh listening dying to
hear more about Ura programs here from
Ura volunteers of course we're going to
have some D his irus and hisus from YF
Nukem YF Nukem will be here as well as
do
misel and ysep Nukem will be here what a
what a they'll be singing away every
hour Rabbi Weinstein has told us he will
make a guest appearance uh this evening
so we're we're very excited uh for that
as well but uh Rabbi um Rabbi leafer
Rabbi Shai aler who's my co-host for
this hour he's a man of immense talents
and abilities he's uh wears many hats uh
including of course he's fiveish his
co-host but he's also the dynamic
dynamic director of Camp the
yes wow and is famous around Lakewood
for organizing I did not know this Dr
Rich Roberts Carnivals that is that is
amazing that is a lot to put together
that is right so I'm sure for like you
the uron is just you know it that should
be easy comparatively that's right just
a walk in the park just a walk well
we're very excited what are you most
excited about for the program this e
this evening Rabbi leafer well there's
too much to be excited about I mean I
actually am very curious to know who is
going to win some of these most amazing
prizes I want to know who's going to win
the
$36,000 prize I'm also curious to see
fiveish tonight I cannot wait that is my
most favorite part is seeing fiveish
here tonight asking and answering
questions yes fish is here he's in the
building uh as of uh right now we see
him over there waving hello fish ready
to come on to you know play some trivia
and give away some of these fantabulous
prizes uh as this displayed here on my
right um uh and you can get online right
now the 5ish hotline is open I'm being
told at 732 5ish 732 f i v i s h and you
can win fiveish socks fiveish ties
fiveish hats and fiveish t-shirts um so
we're going to Spotlight some of our
fiveish friends which is really exciting
we have F bringable cheers we're
actually picking some prizes uh in the
beginning of the evening so now you
don't have to wait up till 3 in the
morning to possibly um to possibly win
some prizes overall over all very
excited Rabbi aigar schn the uh
Congressman for the state of New Jersey
will be co-hosting an hour or two uh
later he's going to talk a little bit
about tuition relief I just got a letter
from my school about the tuition relief
I'm having for next year I'm very very
excited to discuss that uh with him we
have a guest appearance by the newest
captain of hella Captain Ain Mueller and
a special section on uh women's Empower
empowerment by Elizabeth weasel who will
be here later on this evening as well so
overall a very exciting program plan now
just before we get too far with the
program I appreciate that wonderful
introduction that I got but we forgot to
introduce the host of tonight's uron
Rabbi alanan Schwarz who is a
multi-talented person a very close
friend to the Ura family and he's been
invol been involved in the uron ever
since its Inception he is a man of many
Vo es we actually might get to hear some
of them tonight who knows who knows you
never know I think we will yeah he's
also best buddies with fish they go B
way way back from for many years already
uh on the side rabie Schwarz is also a
licensed mental health um Council the
director of Crisis Intervention at beina
maintains a practice in Brooklyn and in
Lakewood how about that and on top of
all of this he is an Auctioneer par
excellance and we will be having him as
tonight's host of the UR uron oh thank
you very much for that introduction now
you know the uron is something we do
every year we have a great uh great time
and uh it's a lot of fun um um and you
know ultimately though what this is
really about is supporting the um the
wonderful work the hatalis theas the the
kiru that Ura does and it's always an
exciting night for our volunteers and
for all the staff members that Ur
unfortunately this year uh one of those
who were supposed to be hosting with us
uh Rabbi abam brog is unfortunately
sitting shiva uh for his young son uh
Schmo who was tragically and suddenly
nift during a car accident Thursday
night obviously uh our hearts and our
thoughts are with him and his family
this evening Rabbi brag of course um a
host of the uh of the of the uran and
years past as well as the camp director
at the Zone uh boys division for many
many years uh really one of the more
integral parts of this organization and
uh of course we're thinking about him
we're we're going to continue obviously
with the program because of the
importance of the um what it brings to
help Ura be able to continue it's AES
but our thoughts and hearts are with him
and his family and uh we're going to be
dedicating all of the learning and and
that will be generated by tonight's
program
[Music]
the family should have
a also uh always on the schedule for
this evening was uh obviously we're
we're sitting at a time where not just
for Ur but for the entire um for the
entire Claus Ro is in a very very
serious um mat of a very serious
situation and that's why I going to
asker to begin the program this evening
with a
cap everyone I'm going to say one line
at a time and everyone could say after
me don't just say it after me but you
could scream it out really loud Hashem
wants to hear the FES of
Cl for
thank you RAB leer let's hope that
tonight um we use um this these
opportunities obviously we're going to
have a nice program it'll be inspiring
it'll be uh hopefully intellectually
stimulating and hopefully entertaining
but let's never lose sight of the fact
of ur's mission which
is
the around the world and please uh you
can start us off right now uh by calling
18777 auction the number that you
already know or going online at Ura
auction.org to donate now to the uraon

bills okay we're going to get back to
fiveish momentarily just before we're
going to take a quick break and we will
be right back with fiveish but we are
now going to show you a little bit about
some of ura's many many
programs our tuition program is helping
over
2,300 namos that's a lot of kids that's
a lot of Future Families for CLA 2,300
students who began their journey in
public school they would be in public
school if not for the extra that they're
getting from Ura Ura right now is
helping to the tune of 9 million 900,000
and Counting with your help we're able
to change the world one of the things I
find most heartwarming in my visits to
schools is moros and rabam from around
the country have been confiding me and
telling me you have no idea you know how
I got to where I am here today you know
how I became a rebi you know why I'm
from today I'm from because Ura put me
through school because Ura helped me go
to ER Isel so we're now it's
multigenerational it's not that Ur is
just helping these kids but Ur is
helping these children in schools now
but they're being helped by products of
ur's own success how many kids are in an
uru school well we don't have uru
schools uru works together with 183
different schools throughout the United
States some schools maybe have close to
100 uru students and some have just one
lone Brave steer but Ura sees it as
their mission doesn't matter if they're
one or if they're 100 we're going to
help that nshama we're going to connect
with that nsh and see what we can do
what all of us can do to bring that n
closer
to
yeah okay we are back now with fiveish
by the way in case anyone out there by
mistake has not donated yet you can call
18777 auction right now and donate to
one of the most amazing prizes there are
tons of prizes out there or you can go
to ur auction.org but I would not wait
anymore right now you should make that
donation and let's get back to fiveish
are we ready for some more questions I'm
pumped up I'm ready I am still to broen
about that Lakewood misser who called I
think we have to have some kir Rakim
done immediately uh we're sending our
our crack team of uh kirv crisis experts
to go alic that situation but I believe
we have some people on the phone ZK who
we
got aim from
Brooklyn how you doing
how old are
youim 15 15 what Yeshiva do you go to
the Mir the Mir all right here we go for
a 15-year-old bucker from the mirror
answer me this give me five perim on the

should know first of all there's one
more mishna easy mishna one right you
did magish mishna Mish there's one more
kind of obvious one the hint is it's got
mishna in the
name
um I just heard the Mish the CF
mishna and what else what does your
Reish speak out no other for maybe

you now I would like to call up a friend
I known for a few minutes Rabbi zafani I
would love to hear your story good
[Applause]
so the first question we asked before
when shabas m shabas is how was your
shabas I'm sure it was the best Shas is
beautiful it's unbelievable always nice
correct always nice so I he I heard some
a little bit
uh I heard your Rabbi now in isua
correct yes JC High School JC high
school so give me a little bit of
background where you grew up till the 10
years my my son is 10 years old so I see
every year a different you know where
was I when I was 10 years I always
remember 10 years and then so actually
it's pretty funny I was here about 17
years ago about 17 years ago um after
joining the zone and I spoke with Lea
schmeltzer back in the day so uh we grew
up in Stan Island um my family got
introduced to ra Min and the whole uh Ur
organization it started for me for
myself uh I went to JFS Elementary
School and every Thursday night we had
mishmar in the Yesa Stan Island and they
set us up with a Kusa once every every
Thursday night I still remember his name
RAB L wow and uh we built a tremendous
connection together um it was you know
something that I looked forward to every
single week to go to mishar learn with
him play basketball with him after all
the things that we had the food and the
snacks um and from there the bond
continued and convinced me to go to the
Zone boy Zone the first year they opened
up 2006 best the zone of the best in the
world the best summer I've ever had in
my entire life for sure wow um and from
there it just continued you know
everything that we've always had with
with uh R Min all the trips Six Flags um
and then the real climax of that trip
was to go to ra Suka afterwards and he
would ask us questions and give us
prizes that was the the ultimate Joy of
all these trips and it really built such
a tremendous connection with uh for me
for my family and the whole Ura
organization this is amazing you know I
was I was many times in the zone there's
where you see in the zone I don't think
you see it everyone else they do it with
so much
the you know it's not just you do you do
this you do that with you feel it
there's an energy you can feel
and you were you were with Raba Mintz
till till what age and I mean I'm still
with r Min now I mean I mean um you got
married by the I got married I got
married when I was 19 a little bit uh
crazy so yeah I I went to I went to
discover you also before before I want
to discover you they helped us out a lot
with uh tuition and with help going to
Israel and then I went to Yeshiva and
then I got married when I came back and
then I went to discover you again even
uh afterwards um so we continued you
know my my family my mother still goes
to Torah spot
with in Stan Island and it's just every
opportunity we have to be with with Ura
we take advantage we go on sometimes to
the shabbaton and pesot different events
whatever we could do to be with
is is the Highlight so I see you I see a
Ura success story correct I guess so not
for me not only for me for my entire
family entire family so so what people
don't realize when they're supporting
Ura they're supporting yish guide in the
biggest way 100% for Generations
Generations
generations and they say the asked a
rabbi once why in the there was a city
where a lot of Eden was sitting and
learning learning why you see their
children are not going the same way so
they said because they were learning
they they did they they they they were
serving God in in in like in a I
wouldn't say the the pressure way but it
was like everything with the with we
have to do this you have to do this I
think the other the other places like a
lot of place you doish with with fire
with I think that's this is ur they
teach you to do yish with with happiness
and joy and and dancing definitely I
mean I can tell you you know growing up
there's always this stigma of uh you
know being religious it's difficult it's
a burden it's too hard um so many
restrictions Ura the the the amazing
thing of Ura was they like you said they
taught you that being religious is so
much Sim they're so so rewarding it's so
beautiful for you for your family for
everything that that continues on
that's the that's the that's the
greatness of what Ur does for every
single person you I'll tell you just I'm
sure we're about to end in a few minutes
I'll tell you an amazing thing just the
what I believe is the epitome of the
success of Ura you know many
organizations which are all incredible
they have different programs and there's
a lot of people in the programs and they
different Shum and different things ur's
individuality for every single person
you know they set you up with a Kusa
one1 they have Torah mates they have
everything with an individual care for
every single person and it helps you
grow in your own way and that's the
amazing thing of UR and also the fact
that they're so involved in every single
family I'll tell you a very quick story
We Were Once I'm one of four boys I'm
the youngest we were once on uh in pesak
at the zone and after daving after we
all go to shake his hand and my father's
there with all the with all of us the
four boys and with pride he goes to
introduce us to ra says Rabbi these are
my four boys and
cracks a smile and he looks at him he
says Mr zani I know your boys better
than you we've been involved with Ur for
many many years and it's it's we have so
muchar whatever what everything that Ur
has given us for our family and uh we
just hope it continues to grow it's from
what it was uh 20 whatever 15 years ago
to what it is now it's a different world
and I'm sure hopefully it will only
continue and grow and uh help save
hundreds if not thousands of lives like
it saved me and my family uh and
everything that RAB thank you so much
thank you thank you Raba thank you thank
you for having me it's a pleasure thank
you guys let's do one more M song we say

donate to the UR auction by February
22nd perm cotton and you'll be entered
to Win $5,000 cash and a bird of
course amazing what a what an amazing
song such a cus and such uh such a
spilus I get from the song we always
appreciate how Ura is able to really tap
into the moment and the feeling of the
moment and bring that out Mish Kat like
AB Rottenberg anyways um we're back here
at the uron call 18777 auction or go
online at Ura auction.org Ura
auction.org we have uh here with us
Rabbi Lazar and you have a special
special interview for us this evening
Rabbi Lazar yes very ex very exciting
for us here at Ura we at Ura by and
large we don't have our own schools with
everyone's help we are able able to help
hundreds and even thousands of children
who began their careers in public school
and are able now to go to Yesa schools
and we do that by partnering with manal
and Manalo esteemed manal and Manalo
across the country who help us in their
schools educate the children that really
in the end you are the ones all of our
supporters are helping make possible and
tonight we're going to have the to
meet Germain is the man and rash Shiva
the leader of Baraga Institute a Yesa
that's been helping clausel for close
upwards of 45 years close to 50 years
Kara and we're close to a 100 of those
Ura students currently are we can't wait
to meet him we can't wait to introduce
him to our listening audience
how well he's right here Rabbi J how are
you doing welcome on to the uon it's
great to be here that's it's one of my
dreams to be on be on the UR yeah you
know that that that's something people
people don't realize when you when you
donate to Ura some of what you're
donating to allows us to
create um a Jewish Education for so many
children who otherwise wouldn't and
you're out there on the front lines
educating these
educations yes so we are excited we are
very excited RAB J welcome it's our C
it's ur's C to host you here this
evening we're very excited that you're
here maybe just for openers for
beginners if you could just share with
our audience a little bit about Baraga
just tell us a little bit about what you
do and what the Moet is about sure my
pleasure first of all thank you for
having me and it's an honor to be here
so bagola is the Yeshiva which has
kindergarten actually little preschool
through 12th grade and um what what's
unique about bagola is that there are
probably other schools that service
children from public school but what's
unique about bagola is that we're a Yesa
our hash are like a regular Yesa our R
our Lakewood graduates our moris our
bakov graduates we run a Yeshiva the
only difference is our students are all
from a public school background and not
a traditional from background and
children come we teach them the basics
of yish kite and bar it's a it's a home
run well thank you that's very exciting
and I myself had the Good Fortune to
visit Baraga and to spend time with re
Germaine and meet the T meet the Talos
they're really doing something really
amazing tell me you know we're here
tonight for Ura tell us a little bit
about the Ura Baraga partnership how how
would you see um ura's inv ment with the
Baraga school and with the talid and
tmos how you how have you seen um that
partnership benefit so um it's a very
significant partnership and it helps us
tremendously the way we bring children
in from public school is because the
parents understand that the tuition is
going to be kept to a minimal and
obviously the only way we can do that is
with the partnership of an organization
like Ura when we meet with a parent and
the parent understands that Ur is there
for them and we understand that Ur will
be there for the parent that enables us
to do our work without the
substantial um Partnership of UR it
would be it would it would make our work
even
harder thank you tell us a little bit
about the transformation transformation
you know a child walks in it's a yish
it's someone that we all love and care
about and have dreams about but they
come they're coming out kind of straight
off the boat fresh off the boat they're
coming in from a public school and
they're now spending their days and
their nights year after year in Yesa how
do you tell our audience please if you
can share with us a little bit about
that transformation process that happens
sure
so I'll I'll start off with the
interview when I meet new students we
interview them and the fah the test for
a new student is did you ever hear of
Abraham ainu that's the test did you
ever hear of Moshe
rabenu do you know how many days Hashem
created the world in they asked that in
brisk also
before well our graduates will know the
answer very good very good anyhow so we
take a student that oftentimes is not
very knowledgeable in yish kite and we
bring them into the Yesa and the first
thing that the first thing we're going
to be offering a student is is a
comfortable environment you're taking a
a a a child that was in public school
didn't feel usually children say they
didn't feel safe they feel safe we've
given them a safe environment we've
given them too hot you know before we
get to the all the yish we've given them
two hot kosher meals we've given them an
environment where they're greeted every
morning by people who know their name
teachers who care for them the students
are always telling us
what do you like better I like the fact
that people know who I am I like the
fact that the teachers know who I am I
like the fact that I have friends I feel
safe I'm amongst people that care about
me so that's level one and then of
course there's the yish there's the fact
that children will spend years and years
every morning coming in singing mod
singing Bas children who didn't know
anything now they sing every morning
they're doing so they're doing they're
learning and this goes on year after
year they're encouraged to sing at home
they bring it to their house they sing
zirus in their home and they bring what
they learn in the Yeshiva back home and
slowly by the time a student
graduates the dream is and usually the
dream is fulfilled children become
shabas sh mitz and go on to build their
own families wow amazing you know I've
heard some say that perhaps what sets
Ura
apart is not necessarily only what
they're doing for the talmidim and the
Talos the boys and the girls the
children the teenagers but it's the
impact that Ura has on the families on
the parents of those tum and tmos could
you share with us I guess first first
I'll have to ask our Germaine if he
agrees and assuming you do agree
perhaps a follow-up question if you
could just share with us how that plays
out in Baraga it's definitely true
definitely true and when we ask often
times I'll ask a student so when you
were in public school your parents were
happy yes definitely your parents kept
you in public school because they
believed it was good for you so now that
you're here in
Yeshiva are your parents thinking about
bringing you back to public school and
almost always the answer is no and I say
why
why so what happens is that over the
years that the children are in Yeshiva
the parents and grow tremendously and
the reason is on a couple of different
points one is the children bring the
yish kite home and when we partner with
Ura there's another whole aspect to it
and that is that the children the the
parents have to do the the Ura Torah
mates and that has a tremendous impact
and the parents what's remarkable about
Ura is they're on they're on their game
parents know they can't get away with it
and when parents try the funding gets
cut the Yeshiva calls the parent you're
not Ur isn't paying your tuition and it
brings the parent back on board and that
Circle where the children bring the
yides kite home to the parents the
parents are getting yides kite through
Ura it brings it a complete into a
complete circle whereas slowly
the entire family
transforms and that really is a home run
that that combination the parent student
combination thank you re thank you I
can't tell you how much it means to us
at Ura that you were able to be here
tonight and share you know as I
mentioned before we don't have our own
schools we're working Kara with 183
different schools out there around the
United States and Beyond and just to
give our listeners and our contributors
our helpers our partners just an idea
just a mixas of what it is that's
actually happening you're buying those
$5 raffle tickets and I know you're
hoping you're going to win I'm also
hoping that I'm going to win we're all
hoping that we're going to win but let's
be honest anyone anyone who donates to
Ura is a winner because it's D D you
know before you go re Germaine just if
if I can I don't want to get too
personal but if I can could you share
with us just maybe a short story about
the impact than an Ura child had in your
school sure
um as I said earlier when an Ura child
comes it transforms the family so we had
recently an interesting story we had two
girls came and it was not easy it was
hard for them to come two girls came
after a year one of the girls said the
younger sister of two says I want to go
back to public school that was what was
interesting she went back to public
school the oldest sister was there and
one of the teachers told the older
sister just doin doin that your sister
comes back for 2 years the older sister
daved that the younger girl should come
back to public school after two years
the parents who were secular brought the
younger girl back to the Yeshiva this
year and the father said a completely
secular man I watched my two daughters
go off every morning my daughter that
went off to Yeshiva took her no time to
get dressed and get out my other
daughter that was going to public school
took her over an hour every morning to
get dressed he realized she's not going
to school for the
education he brought her back the two
girls are barem steing and becoming from
and it opened up the father's eyes to
see the difference between public school
and Yeshiva thank you thank you thank
you a thank you for being here and thank
you to all of you out there who are
helping make this possible D make it by
you calling right now 187 777 auction or
going online at Ur auction.org and
donating you can be a partner in this
amazing work and help someone get a yish
education I don't know about you but
that there's pretty there's really
nothing bigger than taking a kid and
giving them a yish education that was
always cabala that's the biggest thing
so you know it's all about fun and fish
and and early birds who are here with us
this evening
but the
obviously is that um uh thing so we
thank rabie Lazar rabie Germain for
being with us and discussing this very
important thing for those of you out
there listening well we're going to go
very soon to doy misel doy misel is
going to give us a little more kumzits
and stories we of course want you to
call 18777 auction 18777 auction or go
online at Ura auction.org we're going to
have coming back when we come back after
the Kon stories we're going to have a
very special guest host who's going to
be doing a very special game called fa
bringable cheers never been done before
never even been tryed before I'm heard
it's very risky and dangerous but Rabbi
AIG is not scared of anything Rabbi AI
to wish relief schn will be the host of
f far bringable cheers it's a little bit
of background on Rabbi schn he's a
beloved volunteer and a friend of Ura he
is an
assemblyman and he was one of the
founding forces of Chill Zone which he
helped grow into a national movement

Jersey assemblyman for the 30th District
Rabbi schn represents and works on
important legislation affecting the
Jewish Community including tuition
relief perhaps more importantly his been
a dynamic co-host of the uron for many
years and he'll be back very soon after
we do a little uh doy misel comes with
some stories a little bit of media

make your uh donations you're going to
win your prizes and RN will be back with

you meet my name is Josh aler Josh how
you doing great so Kim me what is your
connection with Ura so my connection
with Ura comes from chillzone I'm a
16-year-old boy kid that goes to Central
High School and five about five six
years ago a friend told me about
chillzone he told me to come so I came
and wow from the first time it was it
was great I mean Josh comes down with
his crew from lakew Josh
Josh Josh give him a round of applause
of
Applause comes down and don't forry
about Morty too Josh and Morty they come
down Morty come on Morty come on all
right they come down with their crew
from Lakewood all the way to Philly
every m say Shabbat they come and pretty
much it's an hour program which the
first half an hour they teach T you
learn T you learn the paraa paraa of the
week and they do a lot of fun things
they put music they have you know games
food prizes it it's really nice it's an
hour long it's it's great I'm sure if
you chill with his with his boys there
I'm sure you have fun yeah the best I'm
telling you the best where were you
before before that before that I I was a
kid I went to Abrams Hebrew
Academy and everything was nice
everything was good but on the weekends
I was a little bit bored you know I
wanted to learn toah have fun games and
my friend over here he brought me into
chillzone wow and since then I've never
stopped
going this is amazing this is this is
powerful so have you guys been to the
camp The Zone I have in fact two years
amazing experience experience bunch of
boys come down various parts of the
country and we have an amazing time on
this great Course in New York the zone
of the play I've been there many times I
just told the Rober before there's
there's some Joy where you feel wherever
you go joy in the zone right most
definitely I mean there's amazing
counselors we got a couple of them here
we got mosha and
Y give a round of applause a round of
applause great
there's multiple experiences to be had
there is multiple things to do there's
always kids having fun there's always
activity something to eat always great
shabas lunches especially and there's
always a lot of tour learning for
instance we every morning we do
something called cocoa Club I had the
pleasure of learning with Cog I love Cog
no cocoa Club Coco we drink Coco club we
drink the sh but the shab's food I'm
sure there's cool too oh
definitely no I had the pleasure of
learning with by mince so we would sit
down with him for about 40 minutes every
day great lesson we was an amazing time
a lot of Torah to learn this is they say
the King David said if
was praise
God with joy with joy I think that's
that's what Ura is doing correct so what
what about the ding in the morning that
fill in can you tell me yes uh so when I
I was at the camp obviously every day
we'd wake up 8:45 sharp there's no being
late no being late and that's it we'd
put on fim we pray to God and like
everything was just like every day every
day every day there was no missing
except for Shabbat of course where we
get to rest right
right I hear there's like a fill in chat
yeah yeah can you tell me about that so
Josh and Morty here like we said right
they started a chat and
before like I used to go to a Jewish
school and then after that they it
stopped through middle school so only
through high school I I stopped a little
bit and then Josh calls me he goes hey
you want a chance to put on three every
day and maybe get some prizes or
whatever just small rewards and we one
of the prizes are also you feel good
exactly you feel the connection the the
biggest prize is the gift from God
obviously but you put on the I say now
you put on the Wi-Fi boxes and you
there's con you're connected the
connection exactly and I like in the
beginning I was like oh this is going to
be hard every day but like I stopped for
two years just putting on fim he calls
me he goes and an hour every day I put
it on I pray to God my connection with
God got stronger we got imuna amazing
yes everything so
[Applause]
[Music]
good and can you tell me what are the
night I hear there's a night s oh yeah
of course so let me hear as John said we
all used to go to Middle School a Jewish
middle school for eight years where we
learn Torah every single day
unfortunately it ends at grade eight so
of course now all of us being 10th
graders no longer go there now Josh
alter he wouldn't just let that happen
he wouldn't let these boys not learn
Torah so what did he do he got Rabbi
corn Bluth where is
he somewhere and now he teaches the five
of us every single night for about 20
minutes a night wow
how's it going it's it's incredible it's
really great finish the day with some
powerful Torah and and and teachings
it's yeah
absolutely this is amazing
and what can you tell me I I the second
you walked in I was like he's he's my
guy you know the smile yeah I also
partake in all these activities and I
just want to mention they're all great
especially Camp I think it person
there's an energy there's an energy
exactly everybody yeah
I've been to the Zone a few times and I
I think every time I'm going there I'm
like learning more and
more what what is it about and it it it
gives me chills to know you know there's
we grew up with you ding you're
learning but sometimes you don't you
don't you don't cap you don't think what
are you doing I think I think Ur gives
you the the the freshness and the and
the joy and the SIM

being part of family Ura and thank you

time I want you to think we're thinking
of the top of the Empire State Building
the little little point and think about
the distance from the ground to the top
and then
visualize down jumping no we both same
jump same okay let's do this one more
time
skyd if I'm looking up at the top of the
Empire State Building the distance looks
very hi hi well done okay one word high
and if I was to jump the chances do of
survival would be very right but that's
not the word I'm looking for okay no
connection if if we were to describe a a
food wait that hits the
floor C scramble EGS it hits the
grill it hits the grill the best food on
a grill is a well done so a high high
steak High steak young bur there we go
what do I get the high State price by
the way what
$7,000 C they gave the
cow

the last moment 1877 seven auction great
prizes we got a lot more fun in store
and ZK take away with the commercial
[Music]
break tell us five five things we should
all know about
torment okay that's a great question the
size of the program I find is something
that most people are really totally not
aware of we have at this
point over 6,000 participants in the
program which uh counting the mentors is
around 12,000 people in order to support
that program we have a staff of more
than 25 people in the touring Department
with coordinators man
Administrative Assistant I just heard
from a mentor the other day someone in
my neighborhood and he told me he says
you know he there besides this the
satisfaction that I get of seeing my
toor mat's growth says I feel that I
personally gain so much from this
program the to makes program is not just
a learning program it's a program to
help people grow in their yish type and
and a major part of that is the
relationship that our our tour mates get
with each other they become friends they
invite each other to their simus in many
cases they form close personal
relationships and friendships that they
with people that otherwise they never
would have cross paths with another
thing that I think that people are not
really aware of is the scope of the
different topics that we that people are
learning in tourmate everything from
simple Muna uh stories to people who are
learning uh uh at the other end of the
spectrum people who are learning the and
finishing we
provide or books once a year to our T
mates for no cost number five is that I
I think that many people don't think
about the idea
that what we are doing here at Ura is
providing you with the opportunity to
fulfill your obligation to CLI it's not
just an obligation for Ura it's an
obligation for every B and every from in
cerol and when you learn with your to
you can then encourage them come to
events send your children to Camp send
your children to a school that all comes
about as after starting to learn with a

777 auction I don't know the numbers for

$50,000 this is the moment if you want

$25,000 this is the moment if you want

auction and this is our final moment the
final hours to donate $5 a prize you
cannot find a deal like this anywhere
amazing prizes are $225,000 cash tickets
to
a tour all right I don't like the name
of that one but seeing and visiting many
many many gum in rent and mortgage for
six months a home
makeover package it's incredible and now
as we move on with our program we are
going to move on to the next
segment we will now have the privilege
of hearing words
of direct ly from ur's founder and
spiritual leader
harita R mince of course is responsible
for ur's entire
existence from back in the days when he
went with t and volunteers literally
knocking on doors to encourage and help
Jewish parents send their children to
ISA and though Ur has grown tremendously
since those days Rob is still intimately
involved in every aspect of the
organization and one program he is
perhaps most known for is the ask the
rabbi a live open forum for questions on
virtually anything related to yish as
the rabbi started off as a highlight of
UR events and has become a popular
weekly live stream event with
participants joining from across the
country different time zones as the
rabbi is now available in book form two
with years of insightful questions and
answers on hashkafa and Jewish practice
published in an easyto read text
available at your local Jewish bookstore
actually now ready it's not one volume
it's ready in its second volume and of
course we encourage our listeners to
check out the full Archive of of ask the
rabbi clips
on YouTube you can send in your
questions at any time to ask the rabo at
.org and tun in weekly at
.org and now we turn to Rabbi mince for
a powerful And Timely message to our
listeners and
supporters to everybody for joining us
for uh one the r Main
functions and uh we appreciate you're
coming I hope everybody realiz it to
what
extent say
that see that means not just
a nice thing
it's we every
day the the benefit the greatness of a
person
over it's nothing person like
a because people think why is why is a
person better than the because he's a
doctor he's a lawyer
he's BL don't
don't have all
can't
no that's not why a person is greater
than that's it's like a doctor
lawyer have a lot of
money what makes it different
from the fact we
have we have
that's what makes us into a a mench till
we have that
we just
sophisticated if you teach him kill the
to a so a
the
old all
those has so many mainly that's our main
goal we have ter
mates that's the
main expense is Tates and even more is
is tuitions from from little kids until
through
Seminary so this
people that are giving to they're giving
M they have more
children they make him into a mench and
I want to mention like it's years before
that there's another thing that
everybody can do which is even more
thaning
financially just think if everybody
listen to this program would take
against a termate take a terate for
thems to teach or to make a between a
person to learn and somebody to teach
him through
through we'd have thousands of people M
Le there thousands thousands of people
listening to this program and watching
and uh if take one even one terate for
yourself or make a match between two
people look thousands of people Lear K
all the giving donations is indirectly
kill the older together that get people
to learn other but if you went by
yourself and and to Le with the termate
or directly making a between somebody
know the termate through the through the
office through the ter coordinat
office so I urge everybody
to help financially as much as you
can but even more than that to try to
make with yourself for others with those
people not learning look how much more
would have if we had another few Tes
learning
everybody big
everybody
and and this is
what and that's
what this is the best
way and we are back here at the uru
studios by the uron remember 18777
auction 18777 auction this is the moment
thank you RAB Min for those inspiring
words and thank you to the previous
guests and thank you to all the UR
volunteers remember this is the moment
in the next hour we are going to start
picking prizes our first prize we're
going to pick is a beautiful beautiful
car a real car no cash value an actual
car with four wheels four-doors that
drives great it's a great car and we you
are going to go live look who's with
me wow good how are you I am good how's
how's the is doing great we're really
excited I was just over at the big
boss's office oh really and he's looking
at things and he just wanted me to
remind you that the number is
18777 auction three sevens right
1877 s auction yes I'm concerned three s
that if you don't get numbers right we
know how to count numbers we about to
releas I don't want the whole New Jersey
budget yeah don't worry I don't want you
to forget they'll be like missing a
seven and there'll be no garbage pickup
in Lakewood for for a year but now we're
going to go oh I'm sorry we're going to
go live you don't stay with me we're
going to go live to the Zone Upstate New
York we're actually Ur is the middle of
having a one of those shabat tones that
we talk about oh of why we need all this
money to pay for the shabbaton events Y
and so on and so forth there's a
shabbaton taking place right now up far
up Upstate New York in the zone
beautiful campus and we're going to have
a live Torah mates kumzits but remember
next hour we're going to be picking
prizes the car the real car the real car
a real car an actual car actual car
that's very expensive very hard to get a
car now you know about the whole
inflationary issue but Ur prizes $5
stays $5 $5 stay5 the CCO hot dogs by
the inflation do the prices get smaller
there's no Ura is inflation proof
inflation proof inflation proof we just
we just keep going the prizes cost $5
they increase in value instead of
decreasing in value unbelievable it's
it's a p way this is the best investment
this is the best investment and we're
going live to the zone for the Tates
kumit
[Music]
okay everyone we are live now on the UR
auction the
radio we are sitting here
now in the
's Retreat we just had a very historis
very inspiring shabas with hundreds of
Torah
mates from all over the country and from
Canada from as far as La Miami other
places some Torah mates meeting therea
for the first time this
shabas and we heard from some Torah
mates to me the most inspiring part of
the shabis I'm sure everyone around will
agree was by Shas when we had
Reflections and Tor mates got up they
were speaking about the experience that
they had with the Torah mate and Mr
Marty got up and he's and he is learning
with this tor M for 12 years and he
hasn't missed one
week and 12 years ago when he started
leing with this horate he was not able
to make his own s he didn't know say was
and this past PES not only did he make
conduct own seder he had 15
guests 15 guests that are new to yish
kite and he led the Seder for them and
we heard from one of our Torah mates who
he joined two years ago after his son
was right here at his Zone Camp two
summers ago and he came for visiting
day and he was made aware of the Tor
mates program and he signed up for Torah
mat and two years later he's here at
this
Retreat where are you this
Retreat want to tell us about tell us a
little about what happened two years ago
when you came to the
zone so they offer me about this amazing
program I join and I learn every week
this amazing program recommended 100%
for
everybody okay thank you we also heard
from the toate that just joined last
week this is his first week in the Tor
mates program

and you know was so inspiring to me when
one of our mentors got up and he said
that yes he does teach his Torah mate
every week and that's very inspiring to
learn with him but the thing that
inspires him the most is when he sees
his mentor who came from a background
without any all didn't know anything
about and how he's changing his life and
turning over his life and he's becoming
from
and that inspires him when he wants to
work on something when something's hard
for him he try he looks at his tmate and
sees that his tmate is turning over his
whole life he wasn't
KN and now he keeps koser and he keeps
shavis so that inspires him to do what
he has to do as well

throughout the course of the evening and
you have won one of those three cars
sponsored by cars for kids beautiful we
we we you know we we we really
enjoy supporting or with me and my wife
we're both toor
mates oh wow you're both to mates wow
that's amazing oh my goodness gracious
this is robbi Weinstein's dream come
true we have a an Ura winner and you're
both actually Tor mates why don't you
tell the people out there what a Torah
mate is well you know you make it's kind
of like a sh you me up people and to
learn and you know people that you you
never met before in your life and uh
become friends become friends and you we
we learn every week and share stories
and we do you know it's beautiful we we
learning right now we were learning the
par of the week now we doing a little
you know we do trying to go from the
beginning to the
end is real this is so you're learning
with someone who's not who's not yet
completely uh observant and you're
teaching them about the Tyra and your uh
person in Riverdale and your a Torah
mate and if there's people listening now
and they want to become Torah mates just
like you they can
call .org .org is definitely a good
place to start yeah we'll go to .org and
fromg and from there look on the become
a Torah mate section and you can become
a Torah mate just like uh David who
tonight and his wife and his wife
they're both Torah mates and they'll
both share are they Tor mates with a
couple also or it's like one has one one
has the other that's a good question
David still on the
line I have a fellow in Long Island my
wife does WR with a woman in Cleveland
Ohio Cleveland Ohio that's amazing
that's exciting for me exciting for me
wow that's really beautiful listen we're
happy that you won this prize you should
use it La thank you so much for
supporting Ura and everyone else out
there you can be like David you can
donate to Ura like David did maybe
you'll win like David did and maybe you
can become a Torah mate like David is
and you can call 18777 auction or Ura
auction .org or become a Torah mate at
.org there are how many old Tor mates do
you think Ura has like there's people
doize how many everybody they're telling
me there are over
6,750 peers peers which means that's
times two what
6,750 over 13,000 over 13,000 over
13,000 that's unbelievable
13,000 how many how many assembly men
are there in the New Jersey assembly a
lot less than 13,000 a lot less a lot
less than 13,000 how many are there in
the entire assembly throughout the
entire state every District together
yeah there's 80 80 80 you're one of 80
one of 80 out of 80 out of 9 million
residents uhhuh so you got how many
residents do you uh represent represent
yeah well I represent about 200,000
almost 200,000 really yeah 250,000 how
many people voted for you a lot a lot
but we always need more we always need
more always need more all right okay now
we're going to go back to the on 1877
just like we need more Never Enough
Never Enough never never enough money
for tuition Never Enough tuition relief
no I don't mean I tuition relief tuition
supplement that Ur takes care of Ura
will actually speaking of tuition you
know that one of the things that Ura
does is they help supplement the tuition
for kelak that are coming from the
public
school and they and they bring him over
into a yish school and give him a yish
education but people will say it's very
expensive to have a yish ucation because
rabal has not yet come through with the
tuition
relief other states steps in there in
New York there in other states States
where there's no tuition relief assembl
tuition relief exactly exactly but Ura
kind of steps in and Big Time and takes
care of that we heard earlier today
gain from was on he was saying how
without the Ura supplemental tuition
help right they have a very hard time
making making meat and that's not even
relief one that's supplementation
supplementation this is just one example
of many of or schools that are are are
are banking on would you believe that I
didn't put that together the whole till
just now that you are doing tuition
relief but Ur does tuition does actually
do tuition relief supplementation
supplementation tuition all right
amazing me and Rabbi Schnell back
together
again 18777 auction 187 77 auction at
Ura auction.org we have tremendous uh
things coming up all night long that's
the first of many of many prizes what
prize are you are you uh excited about
this year raal I'm excited for a lot of
prizes I wouldn't mind you know win the
$36,000 cash yeah I like that too I feel
like that's I feel like that's simple I
think it just very easy you know have to
be busy with a home makeover or this
just give me the cash 36,000 and we move
along with it it's you know what you
know what I like there's actually a
prize prize number 40 is tuition really
yeah making the bus each morning won't
be any easier but you will have $99,500
help rising cost of tuition $ that's an
expensive tuition that that's about one
kid $99,500 per kid per kid no no no
they're not giving you per kid Tak care
of one kid Tak one kid but that's how
much tuition SCH it says that's the
tagline is making the bus each morning
won't be in you know speaking of the bus
it reminds me of our former host yes
Rabbi Abraham Kravitz should live and be
well he used to be on here he's he's
actually he can no longer come on
because he's a member of the lsta and
that uh that's a very prestigious
position he won't degrade himself to
come on the uon however we have an
assemblyman who's willing to come on we
have Rabbi Weinstein who comes on every
year and uh and and bar PTZ and all
these other people uh but Rabbi Kravitz
the lsda says no I think he's too busy
making sure we make the bus I hear he's
got to make sure we make the bus I feel
like he's he's just not able to answer
the hard questions like you are you're
able to come on here and you're like ask
me whatever you want tuition tuition
relief we're ready we're ready
18777 auction we good you're getting
there is
18777 auction three sevens 18777 auction
and this is the final Moment by the way
this is the time to donate people that
may be listening to us discussing the
prizes yes thinking we're going to pick
a prize it's not over yet this is time
to give basically like an hour and an
hour left $5 a prize inflation one there
is a safe there is a prize for
$100,000 now it's a little tricky
because you can't just win $100,000
straight up but if you win another
prize and like said way pick your name
out let's say for a Shel and you win
this prize then you get $100,000 B you
have to win twice yes yes now you want
to say like oh that sounds too
ridiculous trying to the odds are last
year on this show no someone won
$100,000 so he won one prize and he won
this so he got the other prize you like
$110,000 this guy basically or
$125,000 yes so people will say no that
can't happen the odds are the odds are
not in your favor well the odds are in
and the Ura auction and and and you can
win
$100,000 if you do that what's the pick
50 prize that's like a tough prize the
pick 50 prize 50 where is that number 37
I don't see that it says breathe deep
and take a chance to win big pick one of
five overturned cards yeah and would
either five wow that's got to be a
killer yeah it is a killer 5 50 500
5,000 or 50,000 correct and it's up to
the person so how does that work and
they don't get to choose which one they
wantes choose a card no I understand
obviously no one's going to pick five or
50,000 but we call the person on the
phone yes how do they how they pick the
cards we've done it before they say we
have a card every card card number yeah
1 2 three four five number three they
pick number three and under three is
five bucks it could be so we woke the
guy at 4:00 in the morning could to win
$5 correct wow or it could be 50,000
that's I believe last year's winner won
five grand which is not I feel like
that's respectable five grand used to be
tuition in Lakewood by the way used to
be used to be before it it got higher
yeah why did it get higher that's a good
question I think the moers are raising
now CU they figure you're going to get
relief but we told you yeah yeah I think
they should take you a little slow yes
it's relief yes not replace correct are
you gonna are you on this or what H it's
tough you sound like
you're okay uh and what else do we got
we have a gum tour you can go
to gum vacation anywhere vacation
anywhere that's $9,000 to whichever
vacation you want anywhere in the world
correct that's amazing you could also
win 100 times your donation up to 50K we
have had multiple winners of that over
the years meaning basically whatever you
win whatever you donated you win 50
times that so if you put in $500 you win
$50,000 we have had that I believe
multiple times ,000 $50,000 we actually
once had a guy who won $50,000 and gave
it all to St re no way yeah guy from
Cleveland P really give the full 50,000
to full 50,000 right up there he said he
promised Hashem if he wins the money he
has a certain sodaka that he's going to
do it 50,000 okay now I think we are
ready to hear a bit more about uru we
heard about tuition we heard about we
got we logged in upstate to the shabat
what's going on very beautiful hear
about the camp people realize that there
are so many Volunteers in the
organization of Ura hundreds maybe even
thousands between all the Torah mates we
heard there are
6,750 peers of tourmates that's 6,750
volunteers so now we turn the spotlight
to the real heroes of the night our Fish
Friends someone recently said that fish
is perhaps the greatest MV of Our
Generation that's a bold statement I
like to think so I'm sure you do
good friend of mine five and it sounds
funny but it's true because fiveish is
not just funny games fiveish is the
secret behind ura's success as a kirov
organization let me explain Ura doesn't
actually do kir organizations can't do
kirov Ur facilitates kirov it's really
our army of volunteers On The Ground
Learning one-on-one hosting events
heading chill zones Staffing Camp those
passionate people are the ones doing the
kir carrying out ur's Mission and
changing lives and fish is the reason
everyone in the firm world knows Ura
loves Ura and wants to be a part of what
we do this year as part of the fiveish
frenzy auction campaign we asked some of
our volunteer and friends to join us in
raising money but more
importantly in raising awareness of the
mission we are accomplishing together
and now we invite a few of fish's top
friends to come join us on a and share a
little about what they do why they do it
and how Ura with your help makes the
work possible our first guest tonight
our first one of the first fiveish
friends is going to be someone that's
part of the reiton
program someone that has been to camp
involved in the reiton program Rabbi
Donnie Frank who I believe is going to
be joining us here in
studio good
Frank welcome to the uron and special
yes and tell us a little bit about what
the ritson's program is what's your
involvement how you got
involved in this great program okay this
is this is going to be a big job in a
short amount of time but the reeson
program like all uro programs is an
incredible incredible program it's made
basically to be um a service for people
in
shim um it's a covers really everything
it helps uh uh just helps in every every
way in fact my wife and I got involved
with um the riton program really started
when um we uh my wife had about a week
before
uh the summer about 15 years ago an
opening came up in the girls Camp so she
um she was asked if she would take that
opening to be Masia and she went so we
knew very little about Ur at the time
but once you experience Ura you don't
want to leave so we stayed around with
Ura for a couple of years until we got a
call about maybe seven years ago from
the Rison program asking us if you'd be
interested to come to the shabbaton and
we have been hooked very very deep
deeply since then twice a year now it's
been twice a year and it's a shabus with
hundreds of singles that aren't just
random singles these are singles that
are registered that are part of the
program that the rebbit and shim get to
know very personally this isn't just a
random program and when they get to that
chabas it is networking to a level
you've never seen before it's very
exciting it's really an incredible
program the UR ritson's program you
think that we have many campers that
graduate the camp and come to our other
programs and Torah mates and that and
sometimes we're a little lost and Ur has
that foresight to say you know something
we have to take care of them to the next
step and then we created this concept
called the Ritson which has made to date
dozens and dozens of many of them have
actually met on those shaton absolutely
in fact you mentioned this this thing
about the um the um the way Ura sets it
up uh a couple years ago I think it
might have been during Co because it was
a zoom program Ur had asked me if I
would
introduce the people from the Discover
you program to the riton program and it
was really the first time I get a chance
to see the way the programs come
together it there a lot of things but to
see the handoff from Discovery you and
be to be able to facilitate that to
introduce them to the what the Reon
program was showed at least me that this
is you know Ur knows what it's doing and
all of its programs are part of a very
specific vision and so it really moves
from the moment someone becomes jewishly
aware and then becomes from and then
gets involved and it's Yim and then it's
getting into shim and then it's after
marriage it's really incredible you know
just to tell you some of the stats that
people may be interested in hearing
about when you hear these numbers There
are 16 almost 1,700 members in the
renissance program of girls and boys
which is just a huge networking
place to go they do these two Retreats a
year where they have almost 300 people
participating and this is the coolest
thing last event there were six
engagements that were made in one
Retreat that means 12 people that came
to an event that are in not knowing what
this event is going to be about not
knowing what's going to come from it
they came hoping to have a good time in
the beautiful urone campus and they met
their ziv at this shabas through the
help of the rebon volunteers through the
help of the mentors through the help of
uro facilitating it all but from one
shabas let it
12 six I'm sorry six 12 people getting
this is you know Perhaps Perhaps per
chance Ura is the answer to the sh
crisis we should just make shabat tones
we should make reison rebon
shabat and I see by the way it seems
what what what's striking me interesting
is all the major crisises Ura has their
own answer to like they have their own
tuition moive going on they have their
shis thing going on but Ura kind of
keeps it it's all for the for theim
aspect I feel like if Ura
expanded into the regular world we could
solve the sh crisis the tuition crisis
if I could just add on to that that
point um people who have been to that
shabbaton will ask that question why
isn't this being done for all of klyo
yeah so so you can speak to the people
in charge to see that it's not so simple
but I'll tell
you that shabbaton takes 6 months to
prepare wow it isn't just I mean I don't
know exactly because I'm in the uh in in
in in that part of it but I do know that
there's an investment of so much time
and effort to put that shabbaton
together it doesn't just go like here's
a shabus come out there and do what you
do every shabus is different every time
they do it they take the feedback and
there's ideas it's it's never the same
shabbaton so to do that for the all the
time that's going to take a lot of
Manpower I feel like it can be done
andway Frank you know I think it's what
what's unique about having people like
you yourself you're someone that's a
professional social worker I believe a
marital counsel counselor so having that
particular expertise being part of the
rebon program probably lends a lot more
than just being another Mentor in the
program and gives much more of an
insight into helping these people that
the the couples or the potential that
you meet by these
shabbatones yeah I mean I I think that's
um I'm not so much the shatun type my
wife is more the networker and uh for me
it's
whatever any uh thing I could say or do
to be helpful to the singles that show
up there I try to make it available but
uh that's really it's really incredible
and the diversity of the sh that show up
there is also pretty incredible I mean
mean there's I can't tell you the
numbers I don't have numbers in front of
me but there's a pretty nice size staff
of sh that show up there and also very
diverse coming with their own skills my
friend you bring along with you copies
of your your incredible book that I
believe is called the making of a
dynamic duo um the title itself gets me
very interesting yeah yeah yeah it's
it's uh you know I feel like that's
referring to me and Rabbi schel the host
of The Many there many other you know
types of dynamic Duos we could be
dynamic duo I think that's what I think
probably that's what probably husband
and wife I I didn't think about the two
of you but it probably would have been a
good idea to have you guys highlight it
but it's actually marriage a chapter for
us yeah it's a marriage book so in the
next Edition you'll add on the uh I
actually made that mistake chapter you
gotta that's like you know dynamic Duos
in marriage Dynamic Duos in this Dynam
yeah I made I made the mistake when I
once spoke at one of these Ur
shabbatones as we were introducing it so
Ura has you know they have it's
interesting because we've been to
different programs besides the you been
I believe also yes we we signed
yeah so um there there's there's the Ura
um the franchise the things that go on
it every shabbaton so like the shim
scramble so we had that there at the
rebon shabbaton too everyone gets to
meet each other so one of the scrambles
I started by saying you I came to the
shabas and the first thing I saw was two
campbel the two camels sitting together
you know by the lake and I'm thinking
they really set the tone they found each
other and that should be uh you know the
beginning for all the sh I will tell you
found afterward was a b show well I I
found it afterward the two camels are
both male so this Dynamic dual business
it's you know it's very specific for
marriage you know sorry I kind of messed
up on that one excellent excellent Frank
thank you so much for joining us okay
looking forward to seeing our future Ur
events and thank you for being one of
the fiveish friends but one of the
people that are really doing the real
work of Ura because again Ur is the
organization that facilitates the kiru
But ultimately it's people like you
volunteers the thousands of them the
army of Ura that is out there doing
the I think that was one of the words
you want to say the arm it like that
yeah that so thank you very much for
joining us
pleas and we'll be in touch with thank
you okay all the best one of the other
amazing programs that Ura has we talking
about Tor mates yeah the car winners
with two Torah mates 100% but sometimes
you have some there's adults have t
Torah mates kids come to Camp they get
Torah mates yeah but then you have
sometimes there boys and girls that are
not yet coming to camp they're not ready
to go to sleep away camp whatever the
reason is and they want a torado so so
Ura with their again their foresight
they just look ahead of the game they
said what are we doing about these kids
so they start a new program called
Junior Torah mates oh wow and we're
going to be joined tonight by a junior
Torah
mate who's be coming on this stage to
talk about a little bit K welcome hi Hi
how are you are you a junior Torah mate
or like that what did he say you're a
junior Tor mate I am a Junior tourmate
I've been a junior tourmate now for
about six seven months started this year
and never looked back was amazing
amazing always been an amazing journey
and it's a really special opportunity
and I'm very grateful for it so can you
tell us a little bit about like the idea
of the whole Junior tourmates you on the
phone how do you get connected how did
the whole thing happen and what is it
like sure so to start how I got
connected um my family is pretty much an
Ur family I have two older brothers an
older sister both went to the Zone which
inspired me to go to the Zone when I was
in high school uh and that was I guess
what propelled my journey and take care
of uh it was an amazing eye openening
experience and it sort of taught me that
you know I have so much to give you
don't need to be an expert you don't
need to you know know the answers to
everything you just have to to have the
passion you have to have the desire to
make a difference um and you could
really make a big impact on the lives of
so many just like that you know I'm so
happy you're saying that by the way I'm
sorry for interrupting you I can't lose
that that thing you just said because
it's so important people to hear that
many times people are intimidated it's
not to me what am I going to answer what
am I going to do they they may ask me a
question my Tates going to ask me I'm
not going to have the answer it's not
for me and like we just heard you say
you don't have to have the answers
that's right absolutely that's right the
Tor mat is not about having the answers
it's about learning who knows who knows
really really he knows all the answers
come the Tate coordinators there's so
many great great great ones they're all
great it's all about a connection
through Torah connecting to someone
through Torah that's what I think I
think and just jump in don't be so
worried about will I know this will I
know that that's right you don't have to
know anything it's the passion so I'm so
happy you mention that and that's really
the key to it right so my family was
always involved with Ura I was raised I
guess in like a home that was very open
and inviting and accepting we my mother
was involved with car of on campuses I
remember we had a shabus growing up with
you know college students in the home I
grew up in Scranton and not a liquid
girl um so we were a little more open
and you know it was always a yeah it was
always a value um and then I I got
involved from the zone that I guess
propelled me to really you know believe
in myself see that I have what to give I
have what it takes I could do this could
really make a difference just like
everyone watching you could get it to me
it's really not difficult we'll talk
about this soon but really not
challenging everyone could do it you
just need to have that passion um and
that desire and so I got involved with
baa actually another local care of
organization uh for a couple years nowal
in Lakewood local to Tri-State and a
little bit beyond too but the
coordinator there reached out to me and
she said Ura gave us a call that they
were looking for someone with specific I
guess who's a little more mature for
specific uh junior tour mate who's
looking for a specific she has a
specific challenge she's in a public
school her mom called Ura um this is an
amazing story her mom called Ura I don't
even know how she got connected to Ura
I'm curious to hear this afterwards
maybe I'll find out maybe you you guys
could find out for me but the mom called
Ur and a frenzy my daughter's in public
school I don't know anything but I know
that she has these friends who um are
not Jewish are of other faiths and I
know that she's coming close with them
and she's learning all about their
religion and she's I don't know how to
guide her in Judaism I don't know
anything about Judaism but I just know
this isn't correct like this is not okay
and I'm I'm very concerned so how how
old was this kid so she's 14 my so this
is my tourmate when I heard that story I
said okay not not not this is something
I have to take this is not a not an
option not an option and so I um right
away said okay I could do this happened
to be a moment in my life where I had a
few you know I was able to accommodate
the 20 minutes to learn with the Tori I
think everyone could do it it's really
something if you fit into your schedule
you could do it and so that's how I got
started incredible absolutely incredible
that is that is very nice and and what
was it like for you I'm saying you sound
like you're talking about someone who
was already being uh you know had some
questions maybe and wasn't so sure was
that like scary for you did you have to
take a theology course or something and
learn good question so actually Ura has
always been there to support me I have
an amazing coordinator Sarah man shout
out she's fantastic
okay and she knows everything she knows
she has all the answers she cuz she
doesn't just bump you up the line you
know that would be like oh oh I don't
know but we'll ask somebody else and
then it all really comes back to Rabbi
Mintz right so what she did was actually
she as a coordinator she gave me the
contact information introduced me gave
me some background information that I
didn't yet get um and she actually spoke
with the RV I guess in the Ura office
and said like how do we support her with
this specific case wow and so what they
did was she gave me the number of uh
specific RV in Lakewood who has a lot of
expertise with this who and RAB blumthal
sure and we actually spoke and he sort
of just gave me a conversation of here's
what to look out for if this comes up
here's what you know how you approach
things here's the hashkafa why you know
just how to respond or how to just for
yourself strengthen yourself so you know
going into it what's in that's amazing
incredible thank you so much for joining
us it's amazing how much like work goes
into setting these things up every every
terate and there's 6,000 of say they
don't just like put a okay you learn
with them and let's like shoot from the
hip make some stuff up and figure out
they like really they the person they
know what they're looking for they're
giving you the resources they're giving
you our very cool amazing amazing thank
you so much for coming on pleas I think
tremendous all the viewers you should
continue to have continue other people
to to do it you seem very uh you seem
very confident in the in the whole thing
and I imagine that your Torah mate is
very lucky and I'm sure that there's
other uh I'm sure we always need more
Torah mates uh here at Ura we have more
people looking for people to learn with
than we have kusus to give them which is
which is not Bader but you what you can
do is actually is when you call to
donate cuz of course you're going to
call to donate at 18777
or and then after you finish your call
you can have him say you know what I
want to sign up and be a Torah mate and
spend 20 minutes a week bringing someone
closer to Yiddish guy because come on
who doesn't have 20 minutes a week to
spend to to to to to bring someone or
half an hour I think it's you know half
an hour 20 minutes it's all good she do
junior 20 Junior are 20 minutes think
and there's there's there's the beanie
Boppers five minutes five minutes if you
want sign up for the five minutes slots
okay now I want to tell you something we
have this amazing uh this amazing uh
little program here um it's a
heartwarming feature because uh from 9
to 99 it features as a a video we're
going to show you now all those uh
listening and watching at home it
features both the oldest and youngest
Torah mates in our program Torah mates
proves that Torah is for everyone no
matter your age Through The Eyes of a
9-year-old boy from Kens and a
99-year-old woman from the Bronx because
from 9 to 99 Torah mates and Torah is
from is for everyone take a watch do you
think that there's an age that a person
should stop learning or no I think it's
I think there's no limit to learning you
should just keep learning and when
you're old you can pass more information
to your
grandson my name is rapael and I'm 9
years old my name is Evelyn birdie I was
born in the Bronx New
York I go to public school PS1 73 I wear
a keepo to school because I really feel
like I want to stand out when I was
growing up it wasn't considered
necessary for girls to go to school to
learn their British kind
[Music]
the most precious gift we were given
when we were born was the
[Music]
Torah so how did you get involved with
Ura and start learning with your tour so
my mom was also in tour mides I decided
to join her my daughter is involved with
Laur she was teaching a lady and I said
maybe there's somebody available who
could teach me and it's been a delight
for me Yak is a good man he's very
patient usually other people would like
maybe stop me in the middle of the
sentence and rephrase he does it at the
end what do you learn together with your
toury we spend the time together half
studying the par of the week and half
answering my questions I sometimes learn
para and then we read a book that he
gave me which para would you say is your
favorite oh
gee that's like saying what what is like
ice cream better than chocolate I like
all of the pasas cuz they're very
interesting how would you say the
learning with your Tor mate helps you
Jette
makes like D more
meaningful I started with
M there were words that I didn't know
and she helped me translate when you
know what you're saying you feel closer
it isn't just a
formality I feel like it's like another
different school that I'm going to and I
feel very educated and
proud how do you keep that thirst for
learning so so
strong I think that's a blessing that
comes straight from Hashem I just like
to keep learning and surprise myself if
you can say anything to
Ura what would you say to them a person
that doesn't know a lot of Torah can and
another person that does they both get
the Mitzvah because one person gets a
Mitzvah of teaching and another gets a
Mitzvah of learning
it's a midst for that they're
performing without
[Music]
measure it's
bringing understanding and therefore Joy
To Life Torah helps you learn and
basically is your Guide to Life
[Music]
wow that was uh that was really touching
bar I mean to see something like that
and the way Ura does these things uh
welcome back everyone to uron 2024 call
now 18777 auction or online at Ura
auction.org to donate now to help keep
programs like Tor mates going it's alhan
Schwarz along with my co-host for this
evening Rabbi AI tuition relief schn
who's here with another special
heartwarming segment thank you Al that
beautiful introduction my pleasure every
time never fails just gets better and
better but we were talking last segment
before we before that beautiful video
yeah about the 9 to 99 I think it's
great the nas the the nas the 999 n
right here so now we were learning all
about okay enjoy yes so now we were
talking previously about how Ura is the
organization that facilitates kirv yes
and that there are probably I would
guesstimate there's probably 9,000 at
least volunteers that are part of the
Ura Army of kir 100% you have almost
7,000 Tates a few hundred Volunteers in
the boys Camp a few hundred Volunteers
in the girls Camp a few hundred
Volunteers in the reiton you're talking
about probably n thousands 9,000
volunteers that are part of the Ura Army
which is an an enormous enormous
enormous Ur C Ur it's incredible yes
totally incredible and we heard from by
Frank talking about the Rons what's like
being a volunteer we heard from a junior
Torah mate phenomenal what's like to be
a volunteer and now one of the amazing
programs which happens to be very near
and dear to my heart of UR I bet you I
know which program this is see if you
can figure this out this is Chill Zone I
I think you going to say tuition program
by the way no no no no no no cuz I know
you started as a chiller you only became
serious later on in life after you
we're still chill he said no I got to
run and become an assemblyman that's
when you uh but Chill Zone is today I
believe in dozens of cities throughout
the country it's a weekly learning
program what is Chone it doesn't sound
very K of Orient well well it absolutely
is children actually in a big way was
one of the feeders of the Torah mate
programs and the camp programs kids
throughout the country literally you
have in Florida in all over New Jersey
all over New York in Canada in
everywhere there's a Chill Zone which is
a weekly program boys come girls come
there boys programs there girls comes
separate they learn they have pizza they
have games they have Raffles and they
get a little taste of the Zone ah they a
little taste of the Zone they get they
get invited to come to camp for shabas
for a Kaneka for a retreat then they
really get to see camp and many many of
those kids and up coming to Camp they
get
and then they go TOA and they and the St
so now staring these chill zones are St
by volunteers all volunteers all these
CH all the people who come to Chone are
whoever running it is also volunteers
really all the different volunteers
every children that was start with some
by volunteer you have a guy user Tessa
that started one in Philadelphia wow you
what are the coolest chillzone locations
like give me like fire like what are
give me give me 10 chillzone locations
wow this like a game yeah a game not
like a game going to get a stuffed
Campbell afterwards if I get maybe I can
I can arrange that if that's important
to you wow 10 chills on locations yeah
10 chills on locations wow that's that's
that's it's easy okay so give me some
yeah Brooklyn Brooklyn okay that's easy
you're St Island yeah Brooklyn girls
Brooklyn Boys don't don't
do come on you have I I believe I
believe you have in FW New Jersey F you
have in Philadelphia Philadelphia you
have in Miami Beach Miami Beach you have
in you have in um what's the name of
that place called again
Trenton Jerusalem you have one has a big
one you also have in in in I think
there's two of them in Florida actually
there's in bokeh and and there's one
Hollywood there's one maybe I think in
Boke in Florida you have one I believe
besides of Philadelphia maybe another
one in Pennsylvania state another here
you have Cherry Hill you have virtual
Chon also that's like every then you
have a children in fear La New Jersey
you said that already now that children
of Fe La New Jersey was started by you
by a guy who's with us tonight oh a bck
in a man that said I want to help out he
came to Camp he was in Camp for a few
years and he started at children in
field New Jersey oh my goodness and now
we have the opportunity to Welcome to
the
uron Shia szer from Brooklyn New York
who is the head Shiller of the fear
Chone welcome to Lan thanks for having
me so Shai tell us a little bit about
obviously the chills on program what it
means for you as a head Chiller what is
that what's that responsibility like
what do you have to do what's your job
does UR help you or not really help you
ah Shai take care of it give us a little
bit of of an Insight what it means to be
a head Chiller so chillzone is something
that the the boys and the girls also
they they come they come to a local area
in the area on on what's called on M
Chavis and they learn usually for like
around 20 25 minutes followed by usually
some sort of activity and then we have a
bunch of awesome Raffles and prizes that
we raffle off to them wow now now what
entails being a head Chiller usually it
comes along with you have to plan the
you have to plan the uh the games you
have to get a good prizes make sure
everything's working out fine you get
you get the prizes yourself so usually
they're sent to us but you have to
whatever I'm saying yeah usually Ura
sends them to us Ur for the office over
here they send the office sends us
everything and then we take care we have
to get we have to make sure they get
there choose which ones to raffle off
that time they send us like a big box
full of prizes every every couple months
got it every single week that be be a
lot of postage expenses yeah a lot got
it a big box s you have to figure out
which prizes to to sort of which ones we
put spread around a little bit yeah
which one we put up for for for raffling
off that week and then yeah I guess it
comes with the activity you have to come
up with a good activity every week I'm
saying there's some that are better some
that are not as good so usually we try
to choose one that like we would also
find enjoyable the kids are not going to
enjoy something that the staff don't
enjoy it also it's usually something
that that we also like also and the kids
always love it like for example on my CH
on itself we started out with like 25 30
boys and and the way it spread is that
the kids kept on telling all the friends
they went to school they tell oh this
awesome program M shabas and the friends
all came and amazing many guys have
coming in out like 50 most sometimes
even a little bit more F New Jersey wow
New Jersey Rob Bellazon is in F New
Jersey right yeah yeah his wife is
actually the one who helps run the girl
Spa yeah so there's a girls in Fon and a
boys in Fon boys and girls that's
amazing how do you feel like this is uh
what are you a Yeshiva B now or you yeah
I'm learning in Yeshiva you're learning
in Yeshiva do you feel like this uh this
is a a good uh I don't know way to to do
something for yesh do you feel like
maybe one day this will help you grow
into you know P the person you're going
to become maybe you become a politician
or something well I think it's already I
think it's already helped me grow like
even from now I've been working with U
for three years let's say and just like
you work in orur in the camp in the camp
yeah I work in the camp also been to
some of the events throughout the year
and then most recently this year coming
for shorts uh I'm not not sure yet not
sure about negotiating with
about but um but but but yeah uh what
was the question sorry no no I just
wanted you to to talk about the I just
wanted to get in my line
but I'm kidding I want to know if this
as the so some people be like like no
like well you know I'm saying that you
feel like this is this is inspiring you
and helping you growth as a as a as a
Yeshiva yeah I think it's immensely
important because like yeah you can
focus on your learning also but like
this is just as important you have to
help other people I guess accomplish
become better Jews and I guess become B
show also it's not just about yourself
it's about other people too I like that
Shai thank you so much for joining us
and much in continuing to run Shone and
Fon as she continue to grow from 50 to
70 to 80 and what's your role in the
camp by the way what's your job Camp I
was a counselor the past couple years
coun past couple years okay so you
should continue you should continue to
have I think you do very very well and
how old are you I'm 18 got a few more
years all right all right we'll mark it
coup more years okay okay all right
thank you so much give a call and this
is this just continues to show us you
have Chill Zone throughout the year boys
comes the camp he goes back home and now
throughout the year he's connected it's
connected not connected they come back
and when the boy in Camp gets a little
bit older and now he grew out of the you
know senior division he goes to Teen
Zone on the leaders leadership and they
have D Yi Moses where is RAB here who
does an incredible job zone division he
I always try and get him to come on
earthon he doesn't want to do it no no
he's embarrassed no okay he joined the
rabbi krait's group you know they yeah
yeah they sit back but after Teen Zone
then what happens guys go to college
they're not coming back to a camp so uru
started a bunch of years ago program
called du discover youu the big U for
University oh discover youu and they
have like I heard that the DU guys are
having like a whole uh sit in they have
a tent campus encampments in the in the
zone in the zone not really so much like
that but they have a good time they have
that but they have a good
