Oorahthon 2020: Legacies of Leaders

[Music] and alcala this next segment is gonna be something a little bit different than the typical segments we've had in the past and on previous or a Thon's but we are living in different times the next segment has been coined legacy of our leaders and we have dedicated this next hour to celebrating the lives and legacies of some of the outstanding individuals class all recently lost in the weeks leading up to Pesach we were overwhelmed so many of our community's most influential and respected rabbinic and lay leaders were taken from us and we weren't able to properly reflect on and perhaps recognize their incredible achievements and contributions to the cloud we are not here tonight to eulogize but rather to pay tribute to some of these great individuals and to remember and be inspired by the remarkable accomplishments we can't possibly begin to do justice to all but we must at least take this opportunity to step back and reflect on what we had on the kind of people we were fortunate to have as leaders we'll be hearing tonight from various people relating to us uplifting memories and powerful stories from people that come from a diverse representation of some of these two children from the Rothman Scarabus that solemn to XIV Rothschild and bya Zamora Blau okay I've got the rock motor out rocco blazer colonel of raqqa was a beloved longtime mechanicus of bya basic of Academy elementary school a position for which he impacted the future of College Hall by molding thousands of the che Israel Kanaka Bono's was her goal in life but she didn't just teach a subject matter she taught her many students lessons for life both her inspiring and passionate classes my personal example thousands of women throughout the world carry on her legacy and indeed it's our pleasure to have with us Rebbetzin Esther Reisman wife of rebels shall rise in ownership of her with us Marie dassera of a good assist role of Medicine and a rabbit's in her own right the distinguished ma hanukkah's an inspiring lecturer who will share some thoughts and memories about Rebbetzin Rock Hill blue-ribbon Reisman thank you for joining us either Swiss of being in close contact with as well for many many years she was my beloved homage teacher in nine 10 and 11th grade and she told us partially we were in the 12th grade she taught she was my daughter's principal she was my granddaughter's principal and I had the school of spending all the years of my adult life in the halls of bya for one year I taught a long side mrs. plow which was I was frankly in awe of her and it was hard for me to sit down at the same lunch table at mrs plow and then she became principal or a mentor school and I got to see her almost every day on my way up on my way down I was always in awe of her but I have to say as much as I would say incredible mrs. Blau was an illegal by herself but kind of took it for granted that degree of brilliance of clarity of talent mrs. plough could do in a day what it took someone else to do two weeks of course that's mrs. Blau we kind of just took it for granted that mrs. brow isn't a League by herself mrs plow had a strong sense of mission she always invoked her teacher Rebbetzin kaplan arlash alone and spoke with source nearer and there was a strong sense of mission that drove her what interactions with her were always light charming Pleasant I was walked out of her office smiling one incident when my daughter was in pre 1a I dropped her off at school one day and asked she left the car as she was getting out of my minivan the strap or her jumper got caught on some part of the car and the button what popped off and went flying into the gutter and they were cars beeping behind me I couldn't pull over I said I'm so sorry I I can't help you right now go into the office and ask them to pin it and then when you get home I'll take care of it I'm so sorry can't even stop I couldn't there was no place to stop there's always a pull over that afternoon my daughter comes to her school and her jumpers perfect there's a new button neatly sewn on I said what happened she said when it's the office to ask for safety pin and mrs. blouse or me so she took the thread and she found a button and she sewed on a button that was typical mrs. plow I remember her tests even as a student I would marvel at the brilliance the clarity the comprehensiveness of her tests how she you had to know it and you had to know a lot and she neatly categorized all her questions as such intriguing and clever categories but at the same time that her tests were comprehensive they weren't so so easy she would answer questions unlike some teachers say no questions and she'd go up and down the rows and sometimes if she saw that I was troubled by a question she would give me a little hint with a wink and a smile she demanded a lot but she wanted us to succeed and she was always on our side I would come to school in the morning and mrs. loud would be standing there in the lobby greeting each and every student so how's your new baby you got new shoes you got a new haircut she remembered so much about each student and greeted them so warmly my granddaughter thought mrs. flowers her best friend she would compose drawings and poems to take to school and so - mrs. clown mrs. LA would sometimes take her by the hand and run through the halls so many children had that feeling like mrs. plow yes the incredible awesome elevated mrs. Brown who was somebody we looked up to so much what - the little children she my friend she cares about me I can talk to her and yes we took mrs. waffle Grantham because she was just in a league by herself but now that she's no longer here we cherish what she taught us we hope to live up to what she expected of us and her words live on in our hearts and the hearts of the children for ever and
