okay
so
we have been discussing
for the last
three weeks
about the fourth
of the ten commandments
which is the keeping of shabbos
tonight i want to further that
discussion
and
explain
like the title we have tonight
they have many details listen and be
inspired by each one
so i'd like to make a rundown
of the different types of actions
and things that we do on shabbos to
explain the purpose and the reason
a lot of people
do things
according to tradition
which is naturally very important
tradition of judaism plays a very big
role
tradition
but they don't realize the reason for it
and knowing the reason gives it much
more of a
life
it's what we're doing it's not just a
action of uh
wrote
that we happen to do every week
but if we know why we're doing it
it takes on a different kind of feeling
so i want to go through the
different
times of shabbos starting from arab
shabbos
and see how far we can get
and of course if you have any questions
about what i'm saying
feel free to ask
and we'll see uh how many things
we could cover tonight
after
katzeis it's called
our
we already
start minimizing
and
start getting ready for shabbos
by refraining from some mundane
activities
shabbos we have to
go away from all thirty-nine but
remember we had all 39 we went through
arab shabbos we don't do all 39
naturally but we start
little by little
getting into shabbos
the reason being
shabbos
like was talking about the last few
weeks
is a tremendous
connection and closeness
that god has with the jewish people
and
being close to hashem close to god
is like being close to a great light
shining upon us
just like when the sun
comes up in the morning
called hinaysakamo
sunrise
before the sun actually rises over the
horizon
we already
are enjoying the light
that comes before the sun itself comes
up
a great light
before it appears in front of our eyes
already
is
giving off
light
in advance
of the main
body of light that's about
to appear in front of us
called the alloys
is well over an hour
before sunrise
because as the sun comes closer and
closer to being
exposed to us
the light gets stronger and stronger
the same way it comes to shabbos
shabbos
which starts by sundown
when the full extent
and the full radiance and warmth
of shabbos comes upon us
even before that happens the light
starts shining from before
the kedusha the holiness the purity
the closest hashem to god
is already
taking place
from khat says from the middle of the
day from
of course now the saving time is about
41 o'clock
because it's an hour later
so this kedusha of shabbos is already
coming upon us
just like the sun before it actually
appears
the rays of the sun are
visible to our eyes
the same way
the kedusha and the holiness of shabbos
is visible to ayahuas
to our soul as shabbos is approaching
and therefore after chat
after midday
there are certain laws
that we are supposed to perform
one of them we start minimizing in our
activities on mundane like activities
we try to stick to things that we need
for shabbos
for cooking or things for shabbos
whatever is necessary for shabbos and we
can't do on shabbos but because we four
shabbos
for the purpose of shops covered shops
under shoppers
the same thing applies
to massage habits
just like when the sun goes down shekia
the sun goes down and the sun is not
in front of our eyes we can't see the
actual body of the sun
still it's not dark yet
the rays of the sun are still shining
back and little by little it gets dark
but the light that was upon us with his
full glory
is not any longer
but it has a residue
and it leaves
in its
path that it went
the light of the sun that was there from
before and it's little by little it it
gets dark the same way it comes to
shabbos to kedusha the holiness of
shabbos
even though when shabbos is over we make
abdullah
after shabbos
still until khatsa salilah until
midnight
there are laws of shabbos that are still
upon us
we cannot
god forbid make a funeral
we can make a eulogies
after shabbos until
midnight just like before
midday before shabbos you can't make the
old jesus certain laws apply
because the happiness
and the
grand feeling
and this closest hashem to god is still
upon us it comes gradually until it
appears into its full glory
and
it leaves us
little by little
but not all of a sudden
taken away from us
it's much easier to digest to be able to
to live through something that's gradual
not something all of a sudden that
happens
it'll be very difficult to some all of a
sudden bang it would be totally dark all
of a sudden totally light
the night totally light all of a sudden
totally dark
for a person with the physical
feelings and emotions that's not a very
easy thing to come by
the same thing spiritually we have to
get conditioned into spirituality little
by little before we come to the full
extent
and then
not to be missing it
all of a sudden in totality
so therefore
once it comes after 12 o'clock on friday
people who are keeping shabbos already
start getting
excited
and of course i started getting a little
nervous too because a lot of things to
do
i'm reminding myself we once had some uh
guests coming for shabbos who were not
too religious they weren't at that time
keepers of shabbos
and right before it was a short day in
the winter
and
those people who know chadvices if you
keep it to its full extent
everything has to be ready before the
kids won't do anything afterwards that's
not for shabbos
and it gets a little tumultic
and
people are running back and forth and
taking care of this and taking care of
that and the bus gets a little nervous
and the kids are getting excited
so these people were standing watching
and they were laughing
so he said why are you laughing do you
have anybody
they said just like fiddler on the roof
that's what they saw in there
so we saw in real life acting out
putting on the roof right right before
shabbos what happens in the jewish home
before the shops everything has to be
put away and everything is put on the
stove and the food has to be ready and
so on and so forth
so we uh
put a nice show for them should have
charged them a lot of money for that but
we didn't charge you anything
in our number two
mestapri
tsim
the legion big de shabbos
a person who needs
has to get a haircut
bathing oneself and putting on special
shabbos clothing
this is something which is
very important for shabbos
as a preparation
the root
for this
preparation
of cleaning oneself
and putting a special clothing
is
written in the torah
by the words of mikra kurdish
so what does that mean
calling of kedusha
that means
our rabbis tell us
that
there has to be
a an exposure from us
as
each individual
to make
shabbos
very alive
to feel it
if everybody will
wear the same clothing they wear the
whole week
so
it's not calling out choppers it's not
calling anything it doesn't have
businesses as usual
a person doesn't have their their body
clean and their hair combed and their
and their
well-groomed and shabbos clothing if
everybody will be the same as they were
the whole week
it wouldn't be
recognizable there's something special
about this date
mik remix has to call out a calling of
shabbos
i see the other person
he's different he has his best clothing
on looks real ruined well groomed the
men the women i feel myself
different i have different kind of my
shabbos clothing on the nicest ones the
newest ones
from head to toe
the first yarmulke two shoes
submissive to everything a person wears
should be different than shabbos covered
shops out the person's clothing hands
and toes should be especially
set aside for shabbos the covered
shabbos
that's mixed with kurdish that's calling
out screaming look shabbos everybody
around us they look different
it gets us into the mood
gets into the spirit of shabbos we feel
different and we
see our families and our friends are
different it gives a different feeling
of of uh of of of
happiness
like birds go to a cassandra you go to a
wedding everybody put some of the nicest
clothing
because you want a time of similar time
to happiness you want to look
your best
to feel the best to make it simple like
a simple shop is a big sim card
but there's another
very deep idea
involved over here
that in itself is naturally a very
important
idea about chabas mikwa kaidish
to prepare ourselves her body's clothing
should be
in the right state of being
for this holy day
but there's another
important idea that we're supposed to
think about
on chapters when it comes to
clothing and washing
as i mentioned before
shabbos
is
the holiest day of the year
contrary to people's popular belief
shabbos is more holy than any other
holidays on the jewish calendar
what does that mean it's the most holy
day
the day that god comes close to the
jewish people more than any other day of
the year
that means it's holy holy means
the mundane ideas and actions are put
aside
and we are
closer to hashem close to god
close to our families together close to
god
wonderful feeling
happy feeling
but that doesn't come
with nothing
like every
important
happening in our life
there has to be some kind of preparation
you can't go into something which is
very
uh outstanding very special
without being prepared for it
if we want to have such a holy day
we want to be prepared if we want god to
come close to us
we have to be prepared
by
washing
our bodies
from any offensive type of
things that might be on our bodies we
want to make ourselves clean
this is a
remiss
an idea
that was supposed to think about our
soul how pure our soul is
is our soul clean as our actions clean
are we acting the way we should
if we want hashem to come close to us
we want to have a wonderful happy
shabbos with god together
we want to
feel and be
ready for it
god is holy
if we want he should come close to us we
have to be holy
unlike things clash with each other
holiness comes together with holiness
we have to prepare ourselves
we are told
that there are four times
in our life
that we're supposed to do chufa that was
supposed to look into our actions
and
think about them
analyze them
are we acting like we should
between man and god between man and man
are we acting are we living up to god's
standards
there's four times in a year the
person's supposed to think about his
actions
one time before we go to sleep at night
a person should think to himself
try to scan the day
that he lived
the time he got up in the morning
to get up grouchy
to
make a
not nice remark to his wife or to her
husband
because he was grouchy in the morning he
didn't feel like getting up or whatever
people tend to be a little grouchy in
the morning
and the rest of the day from then on
to think
that we act nicely to people
will be decent to them
that we get charity somebody has to give
charity
did we pray during the day to hashem
all the different things that we make a
blessing on the food that we ate that we
make sure to keep kosher food whatever
persons go back and give a scandal of
their life that day
to think about how was i today
and then to think to himself and
tomorrow
it's a new day
wake up tomorrow morning the cell will
be up again or maybe it won't be a maybe
a very dreary day i want to be grouchy
again
but this time i'm going to smile even if
i don't feel like it
no it's to take upon myself tomorrow
i want to be better than today try to
fix up those things that were lacking
the day before
that's one time we're supposed to think
about actions of the chuva
another times the end of the week that
we're talking before shabbos
on friday
we're told
that we should
think back
about the week that just passed us
how was i on sunday
how was it on monday how about tuesday
each day sunday i head off from work
and
did i
use my time
wisely
did i treat my family nicely
and so on and one day every day has its
own flavor its own
obligations to go back
righteous people go back and think to
themselves
how is my weak it's coming shabbos now
god's coming close to us
i want to be in the
and
prepared to be able to can't make
contact with him
if i did anything wrong i think to
myself next week next sunday next monday
i'll try to be better than i was this
week
and if i did something wrong i'll make
myself better
that's the second time we're supposed to
think about our actions
third time's like today arabic
the day before the new month tonight
we're in the tambuz
we're going out of the month of seven
the wonderful month of seven with god
gave the torah the month of seven shabu
says the seven
now going to the month of tamus which is
not considered a very happy month the
next few months are not considered happy
months
the times that the
first
of the holy temples the beginning of
destruction
when the
two
haters broke into broke down the wall of
jerusalem
which led to the burning of the holy
basic and month of of
this template of tamils
because we have to try we have to make
it happy but they in themselves are
months of not too much happiness for the
jewish people but anyway
today was the day before tonight which
the new moon starts a new month starts
tonight the end of last day of the last
month tomorrow night the first new month
and we're told that the day before the
day before the new month starts we're
supposed to go back and think how was i
i was like this this month
go back over the whole month
each time over one day is not so hard
relatively speaking a whole week
a whole month
we'll have to think back a whole month
think about how was like the first day
of sleep on the second day of seven and
so on
and think to ourselves
what can i do this coming month
there's something more
successful in my
service hashem
maybe something can do more
advanced fourth time naturally is the
time of yom kippur
once a year
when a person has to go and contemplate
and think it was a whole year
to go back and try to recreate his life
that he's had the whole year since
lassium kipp and this young kipper
and to try to think about
setting up his life in a way that's
favorable to hashem to god
so these are four times in the end of a
jewish calendar that jesus is supposed
to think about their actions and to
children try to make those themselves
better
every night every end of the week at the
end of the month and every end of the
year
so as we're saying
therefore as the holy shabbos is coming
we want shabbos to be
what it's supposed to
be a joy
of being close to hashem
close to god
a spiritual
closeness
enjoyable
occasion shabbos
good food
good people
family
all around a day of joy of of of
pleasure
a person has to check themselves
is god going to like me or not
just like i just
took the soap and water washed off all
those
unwanted
things on my body
it's supposed to make us think so we
should take the soap and water and wash
off her in the summer wash off anything
that we did that was not
what should have been done in god's eyes
whether between man and man
between man and god
before shabbos comes to wash them off to
get rid of them to think to myself i
don't want to do that anymore it was not
right it wasn't this week certain things
maybe
and it'd make it a little better
maybe they were right but i could even i
but i could expound on it i couldn't
even do better than i did before
and then put on
the nice clothing shabbos clothing you
wouldn't want to put a chapstick before
taking good or washing
oneself after i shower tend to put a put
on a nice fresh clothing and the dirty
body is not very pleasant pleasurable we
have to get rid of the surma the things
that are objectionable and then put on
the nice clothing of shabbos that means
we're supposed to
take upon themselves
to
be better people to act nicer
just like the
thing of the person makes a person feel
better you put new clothing fresh
clothing that's how we should try to
dress up on the shama
take us through a while to bed and think
about ourselves the good
to act decently correctly
like a jewish person should ask
between man and man and man to god
so this is a deeper idea
of
kindness we're talking about
of a
calling of kedusha
that was supposed to take
the gosh means the mundane actions that
we
do with bodies
and put in a higher level with our souls
to clean the soul and put on nice fresh
actions something that now god's coming
close to us god comes ah
jewish people
look at yonko look at rachel
they
thought about themselves they want to
perfect themselves
those are the people god wants to make
contact with
so every person according to the level
of their piety of how much they want to
do more for themselves in their
spiritual life that's where god would be
closer to that
shabbos will be even stronger by then
so this is
number two
that we're talking about
by preparing our
bodies and the clothing in a way
that
in itself is important to show this a
special day
but also to take that in a higher level
to try to make ourselves
even
closer to hashem by preparing ourselves
in the spiritual way
now we have number three
we're still hoping by arab shabbos
getting ready for shabbos
preparing
the food for shabbos
we spoke about last week quite lengthy
about shabbos
is
a
miniature
of the world to come
the
pleasure of shabbos
keeps us focused
a whole week
he who got ready before shabbos will be
able to eat on shabbos so you spoke
about so much last week god wants us to
focus on shabbos in this world to keep
us focused on shabbos in the next world
that we have to
work on our actions just like if you
want good food and shabbos we have to
get it ready which happens we have to
work on it before chapters the same way
we want to come to the world to come we
have to work for it and make ourselves
ready for it
we're told
in the gemara the number four
those are
aromatic words by the way in case you
didn't notice them
because the talmud was written in half
aramaic hebrew
sapphira the great rabbi called raph
safra
those people who started the talmud and
over of saffron as mentioned many times
an outstanding
rabbi mentioned in the gomorrah
he used to prepare the meat for shabbos
literally speaking means he used to sink
the hair off the meat of the city
creation
the animal but he used to prepare
the
meat
even though he had people to do his wife
could have done she was a very good cook
obviously hoping she took care of the
food
but
even though it was not considered he was
such a great rabbi he wasn't exactly
according to his honor
to get involved in taking the meat
before it's
cooked and it's still blood on it
whatever it is and preparing it
but he
made sure that he did something for the
honor of shabbos even though it wasn't
according to his
uh
honor that was
that should be spoke bestowed on the
great person like himself
but he didn't care about honor of
himself the honor of shabbos that's
where he wanted brother the great
brother the people who knows who started
the talmud
was the most outstanding rabbis in the
town but moloch
he salt the fish
getting ready for shabbos
they wanted to be involved
with shabbos
not just when shabbos comes to sit down
and eat
but they wanted to do something to show
the anticipation
and the great joy they want to be
involved with when shabbos comes they
want to be part of it
not just their wife took care of it or
maybe that servant took care of it they
want to be personally involved in in the
in the honor of shabbos because they
realize what a great honor shabbos is
for the jewish people
so just
do what they have to do and let it come
by itself was not befitting them they
wanted to do something every week
not only one time
and from this we have
those people who keep shabbos
they make sure to do something to cover
shabbos or make something to cover
shabbos if they know how to take care of
making the
to make the fish they'll make the coogal
or make them make the crane or whatever
they might do in coverage habits clean
up the house
but even though it's not really their
job they don't do it a whole week
but they'll make sure to do something
the coverage habits based on this gemara
that these great rabbis
themselves
got involved to do these things
and this is all
because of we're talking about
we want to to get that feeling
that shabbos is so special
just like a great king is coming to our
house like you mentioned once and again
so you don't want just everybody to do
they should they should take care you
know tell the king i coming to the house
for somebody very special coming to your
house
everybody wants to get involved they
feel good i should be
have the great honor
to be able to prepare for a great person
coming to my house i want to be involved
with them myself i don't live with other
people i want to have have the honor and
the great source
that i should myself be
involved
then we have
that is a phrase
that we say
in our prayers in the music prayer
usually during the week we have three
prayers we say
myra arvid we say at night time
chakrit we say in the morning prayer and
min the afternoon prayer
on shabbos and yamcha
we add another prayer called musa the
word muslim means adding
because since the special sacrifices
were brought in shabbos
so
to acknowledge and remember that special
sacrifice and shabbos that was brought
in the holy temple
we add another
finger today we don't have the holy
temple but we add it in our prayers and
another fourth
trilla
that only shabbas yamtha that we say
and that really does
there's more holiness on shabbos
therefore we want to be able to attach
ourselves to the holiness to glean from
that holiness
we add another prayer which is close to
hashem it's a it's a holy occasion for a
person to pray to hashem
so since the day of holiness when we try
and get as much as we can
so our rabbi said a great
favor for us by adding a special another
musa the
the fourth prayer
of course
we have a fifth from the ilo that's the
fifth one once a year we have five times
in the ila on yom kippur
but during the year we have during the
week three and shabbos and yamcha in the
holidays we have four in that prayers
mentioned
the ones
those who taste shabbos
they will
merit life
now the question is what does it mean to
test to taste shabbos
the simple
idea in that
prayer is
those
who keep
the laws of shabbos
they're tasting it
by fulfilling
what they're supposed to be doing
king david says in tehillim
hashem
taste and see
hashem is good
a person says i don't like
chocolate cake
says how do you know they don't like
chocolate i don't like it
taste it
i like but i love don't like the way it
looks i don't know what i like that
brown stuff it gets me scared i don't
like trouble again
taste it take a taste
it's like oh tasted hey hey and that's
that's good
you have to taste something to to pass
judgment on something
don't just push it away and say it's no
good
ta'amu or king david says until then in
psalms time will taste
and you'll see can you tell me about
hashem that god is good
a lot of people are afraid to taste
different parts of judaism because they
have the ideas about it
that they're it's not good it's going to
be boring to be difficult
different ideas that they grew up with
about service of hashem the laws of the
torah
you tell them taste it
taste it some oh it says something
study torah people afraid to study
together i don't know anybody about
torah taste it and see
turbo
some people afraid about shabbos it's a
hard thing to keep 39 laws 39 things to
keep away from plus this plus that
ta'amu
the ones who taste the shabbos
they will be merit to life
life in this world life in the coming
world
a person cannot really appreciate
shabbos until one keep shabbos someone
who lives a shabbos
like we're talking about the last few
weeks
if a person doesn't really live shabbos
and really taste it
then it's
you can't know what it is without
tasting it
you don't know what the chocolate
cake tastes like let's give it a taste
will
merit life
or merit happiness and joy
because they'll realize by living
through it and experiencing it and going
so close to hashem
it's life it's
wonderful
it's
it's enjoyable
but there's another thought about over
here
it's a
hint to another thought
even though the plain simple meaning is
what i just said now
but
there is
a mitzvah
for a person to taste the food of
shabbos before shabbos
simple reason is because
plain and simple because you want to
make sure
that it has enough salt
has enough pepper
too much
maybe has to have enough water in it
it's tasty enough
whatever the food might be
it's a mitzvah to taste the food of
course that mainly by the bus who knows
how to cook sometimes knows how to cook
so they should taste it and make sure
that it's what you want it to be it
shouldn't come to the table and serve it
and people oh
they're just trying to keep the smile on
their face but they really
they'll like the food and the family
with the guests don't like it that's no
good shabbos is a time of pleasure
tomorrow
the person tastes the food the shabbos
that means to taste it
they are
merit life
because
they are trying to make sure the covered
shabbos and the shabbos
that it tastes good it's perfect it's
best about busting to make it therefore
they merit life because they're honoring
shabbos they want to be the best
possible
and that is
hinting to us
when it comes to the world to come
we don't want to be second rate
so the person will say well
what's the difference i do the mitzv
this way do the mitzvah that way
i give money to a poor person do i smile
at him or do i frown at him i gave him
the money what's the difference did i
make him feel so good
i didn't feel like giving to him anyway
the money so he should be happy i gave
it to him
but the person did not do the mitzvah
to the fullest extent like you should do
it
like the rabbis tell us it's not enough
to give a poor person money for it's a
document charity but you have to give it
with a smile give him good words of of
of of of giving
feel good about himself
to give him some some strength should
feel good about not to be ashamed to
take the money
when we do a mitzvah it has to be to the
fullest extent not just
the bare minimum
it's just like a person comes to food
you like the food good food
the wife sends the food to the husband
and it's too salty right it makes a face
right away well kind of salty not enough
salt too much salt well what's the
difference see soup so eat it finished
oh it comes to food people are very
particular they wanted to taste the best
not too much sugar not enough sugar
it's rare meat well done meat everybody
wants it they really want it that's not
the way they want it and they're happy
about it and it makes most of the time
they make to make they make it known one
way or another
to the person who's in charge of the
food
oh you're so
about food about that how about
particular about the way you serve our
shin the way you do a mitzvah
that for sure you should be particular
to do it the right way not too much salt
and not too much sugar and not too much
there's not too much that with a smile
with a with good feeling
get up in the morning to go to schulte
avenue with the happiness not with the
frown and that
would do a bit should be done in mitzvah
like like it should be done like
with right flavor with right feeling
this is what i think about in shabbos we
take the the kashmir is the food that we
eat the mundane actual physical actions
that we do and we transfer it into
rookness into into a higher level the
clothing we wear the washing of a person
watching the body the clothing we put on
that has meaning in itself but we take
it to a higher level like we said before
make it into a have level of of a
roughness of spirituality
the same way the food that we taste in
shoppers
we want the taste of the covered
chapters to taste good naturally because
the mitzvah i think shabbos but then we
might take it to the next level
if we're so particular about food
we should use a particular mitzvah that
we do also
the commandments of hashem
so
we're still the arab shabbos getting
ready for
shabbos
preparing the food
and number six we filter fish
that's ashkenazi kind of
food
that
is very cherished by the ashkenaz
community
some inspired them
it's a little funny but uh some spider
will
not eat the filter fish because i feel
that's a beginner to sparden i once was
inspired and i said uh he said my father
well they're in the house with the
fishermen
i said would you eat this fighting food
they said to me i said it tastes good
i'll do anything i don't care what was
fire to get nasty as long as it tastes
good i don't care who what it is
but i didn't get filled where does that
come from get filtered fish why is that
why do we eat them on shabbos why is
that a jewish
ashkenazic accustomed to you can filter
fish
all kinds of fish during the week unless
it's left over
it's very interesting you know why
everything we eat the jewish people eat
there's a reason for it
if you remember
we studied the 39
forbidden actions on shabbos
two weeks ago we went through them
planting and threshing
and plowing and 39 one of them was boy
rare
boy rare remember with choosing
the bad from the good
that was during the process of making
the bread remember there was 11 steps to
making bread starting from the ploughing
of the ground ending with the baking of
the bread the 11 processes that are
necessary to come to a glove for bread
one of them is
that after
you
turkey
one of them was
once you grind those kernels
the hard kernels that are in the sheets
of the of the of the grain take out
those kernels like you said like popcorn
before it's popped those are like the
kernels inside those kernels as a white
flower
so you have to grind
the
kernels
and then the flour and the and the
peelings and the shells are all mixed
together so now you have to sift out
the fine flour from the kernels that
were
covering the fine flour
so
is one of the processes choosing
taking away the colonel's
the chapter not the chef is the the
appeal of the the
the the kernels themselves the the shell
of the kernel from the flower that's
called boire
and boire tells us that
the father
you're not allowed in the shabbos to
take choose the bad from the good you
can't take out something bad from good
so that means when you're eating fish
and you have a bone in the fish you're
not supposed to take the bone from the
fish you're supposed to take fish from
the bone that one for the fish
so that's a hard thing to
think to to to be careful with boiling
choosing one of the hardest molokas and
shabbos to keep to keep not not to
stumble in it
so the best way for that is to grind it
up there's no bones
you ground them to fish everything's
ground up together there's no bones in
the filter fish now therefore there's no
problem of choosing bad from the good
and that my friends is the reason why
ashkenazim can filter fish on shabbos
not you have to eat it it's not not a
it's a mystery fishing can anyhow they
gotta get fish but that's why
many people choose to filter fish
because it's
free
of the malacca of bayern i'm taking the
bad from the good like i've said befly
flies into your soda and that's what
take the fly out of the soda you have to
pour off the soda from the fly or you
take some soda with the fly i can't go
to all the laws right now but pirate
choosing the bat from the good
so
that is
you sell kadaishime jewish people are
very holy people
even the food that they eat is a reason
for what they eat
you think that's the only thing
how about
google
we have actually nasty tonight
you think
it's cool cause it tastes good so why
not i eat cocoa
cocoa is a very
holy kind of food you know why
because kugel is made especially
yeah my gosh i don't get cool during the
week you know unless it's left over
choose my cook on shabbos why because
kugel has
a crust on the top
and the crust on the bottom
and it's
soft in the middle
that is a remembrance of the man
the jews in the 40 years that were there
in the desert
they ate mon what did they live with
they had water from the stone
in the susa miriam and they had one came
to this day
a new
layer of this man
godly bread that came down with the
shamayim
and it was kept fresh
by a layer of dew on the bottom
then the month came on top of the dew
a layer of dew on top
and that's how it was kept fresh till
the jewish people came and collected it
for their families
so
that is what google reminds us of a
layer on top a layer on the bottom and
the good stuff in the middle because
some people like to lay better than some
in the middle but that's besides the
point but the main thing of the kugel is
supposed to remind us
of this great miracle that the jewish
people had in the desert for 40 years
when they went out of egypt till they
got the land of israel
they had to have food for the millions
of people and god gave them this month
the last of report every morning except
one day of the week didn't come down it
wasn't shabbos
so
when we eat coconut choppers we're
supposed to think about not only how
good it tastes it's also important we
want it shops have to enjoy the food
enjoyable food what you want to eat but
we're supposed to think also
take it to a higher level
let's not just eat because
it tastes good we're human beings we're
not animals take it to a higher level
it's kugel
come on
what did the man mean to the jewish
people
one met god takes care of them he took
him into a midbourne desert with no food
but he made sure that everybody's taken
care of
and that we think to ourselves and he
takes care of us now also not only then
everybody has to what to eat nobody's
starving
everybody has where to sleep where to
live
we're supposed to take it to higher
level to think just like god took care
of the jewish people in the in the in
the midburg in the desert and gave the
millions of people
water to drink and food to eat
that's he takes care of the whole world
everybody gets food god takes care of
everybody he gives them the food
they're supposed to think about that
shabbos shabbos is a time of
contemplation of thinking
our connection to god
god's connection to us this is
kugel
zaikaluman number nine
google's remnants of the month
the jewish people had in the midpoint
for all those
for all those years
and
chant
so i'm called khamen right common
shelters
that is international everybody eats
children
one way or another it's made with rice
without the rice
the beans with the potatoes you have yes
father conchone and ashkenaz
and lit fish and children see this
everybody's but it's all the same
now what is the purpose of each other
this is international sometimes
something special about children
what is it what is why did you choose
java's
does it what
because it tastes good that's one reason
well
somebody told me from these father
countries
that they uh
it's a special that put grasshoppers
into the jolt
that's kosher grasshoppers that's it
that uh you know such a grocery
grasshopper is supposed to taste pretty
good i don't know
so they uh in those countries where they
have the kabbalah with the
grasshoppers but whatever it is it's
made
to enjoy but where does it come from
what is chunked
food
that was cooked before shabbos
and left on the fire a whole night
and eaten the next day okay that's
that's the challenge really is whether
you put this in would you put that in
but that's really what it is
chant really means
probably shalom it comes from shalom it
stayed overnight
it was started from the day before
and it's cooking a whole night till the
next day
now what's the reason for that
the reason is because
it says in the torah
lost you should not
make a fire
in all of your
dwelling places in the day of shabbos
now we know they had
the
rabbis
who had
the tradition the kabbalah from all the
generations from moshe rabbenu
tauruship alpe
the terror that belpe explains the
terroristic type
if you don't have terms about
you know what explanation of the torsion
picks up you don't know what's going on
you have to have to shuffle up there was
those people
very evil people who did not believe in
the thirst about that
they just said
what's written down that's written down
and now to be don't explanations for it
that's that's it
so they said well what's what what are
the words say lo savarro h you should
not have a fire in your possession your
house probably says you can't have a
fire there's four shops have to put on
all the fires
you have to live in the cold because of
any fire burning and that's it
and that's not the transportation of
survivor ace corporation that means we
should not create a fire
if you have a fire burning from before
there's nothing wrong with that you can
have fire burning before you could
warm yourself up with it you keep things
on the fire you want to keep it warm for
cooking
you can't create a fire in choppers but
if you make the fire from before you put
this on the under the gas we fire or the
electric fire whatever it is as burning
on jabba's that's okay
it can't create a fire travis
so this was a fight that these wicked
people
try to
give over this idea this false idea
that you're not allowed to have a fire
in your house at all
so therefore in order
for everybody to know the truth
and not to ever have such a idea an idea
that that's what it means
so they started making sure that the
hedgehog he put the food on the fire the
night before it cooks the whole night
overnight the fire in the house and he
the next thing when it's still hot to
show that we don't believe in what
they're saying they're saying the wrong
interpretation of what the terror is
telling us they're saying don't keep a
fire in your house no you could keep a
fire and you could keep your food on the
fire and we go ahead and just to show
and prove it that we eat nice hot
chocolate the next day to show the whole
night that was under fire that's okay
terry saying don't create a fire but not
to
allow to have a fire in the house so
that's the reason why we've told
so when you sit down to eat
a
festive
sudan shabbos or the holidays there's
always something behind it something
jewish people even the food that we eat
has a holiness to it there's a thought
behind it something substantial behind
it that that was supposed to think about
well now it's already pretty late
already we didn't get too far well i got
about half through help
next week it's a very interesting
exciting
ideas about shabbos so maybe i'll
turn over to everybody you know if you
want to ask something or comment on
something thank you thank you thank you
robert mintz
what insights on shabbos we take it for
granted
the holy shabbos unbelievable everything
the food everything we do every part of
it
that's why
listen to be inspired by each one of the
details i think it's very inspiring all
the details and sharpness
thank you so much questions on shabbos
or any subject
that you can dream of mazal please
i just want to say about something about
the children
i came from morocco
and in morocco they used to make
outside of the house like
oven from bricks
and everybody used to take the children
there
and in shabbat everybody used to take
his and to god
has come to do the same thing
the other people used to say oh my gosh
look at the jewish people even food they
make it so special and they go
for shabbat
now i have a question
uh
in shabbat we have sundar reviews
accompanying
the shabbos as it's going away so as
close to shabbos as possible you're
supposed to have amalgam before
midnight until midnight which today is
one o'clock in the morning about one
o'clock since daylight saving time but
in case you did not do it till then you
could do it till the morning
thank you
um i think some people didn't catch that
that there is a fourth
it's almost considered part of shabbat
the fourth mill the malevolent market
king david's
maybe you want to make a point of that
to the yeah well i didn't really get to
that i mean i didn't talk about the
three
diseases we're talking about yet but
there's three there are three
uh
uh obligations eating shabbos three
meals
one is friday night one shot this
morning and one before
shabbos is over
but then there's another
dollar to the fourth sudah
that is considered like we are
sort of making a special
taste from the sholum
accompanying and saying goodbye to
shabbos you make people when they're
leaving you somebody that you like very
much we make a party for them to show
them that we like them very much and
hate to see them go so we make a party
to show our recognition our and our uh
feeling for that person so shabbos
that's leaving us well so that we feel
bad make a special party if shabbat says
he's leaving to show that
we uh are very uh inspired by shabbos we
hate to see these happens go but we
liked it so much we went and showed our
love for shabbos so we make a special
party for shabbos
it's called king david's uh
yeah king david had a special love for
that
well first friday night is connected
yeah and the morning
is the third yacht
and the fourth is
that king david
uh his sooner
after shopping maybe next week
by the way you mentioned mazal the
moroccan minhag i think remembrance this
far the time on him the yemenites have
the messora of the kosher grasshoppers
i think the yemenites
the yemenites have tamanim have yet
they still have that tradition which are
kosher grasshoppers okay i'll tell you
something about that
i spoke to a very uh
outstanding rabbi
oliver
a father rabbi and he said that his
country remembers a little boy
they were invaded by grasshoppers
all the uh all their all the grain they
know what to eat so they ate peppers so
you said it tastes like the yolk of an
egg it tastes like because remember to
taste like the oak of an egg grasshopper
so it's not so bad
since you were talking about food
i don't know if you plan on going in
i've always heard that you're supposed
to have buser and yayan
and
i guess also
dug him fish meat wine and fish
and i i i was
i was learning the laws of of of some
laws of shabbos and was talking a lot
about fish
i don't know if i got to the part with
the meat but is fish
um just as important as meat and wine or
no no meat
is a
food that
we should obligated to eat on shabbos
and yamcha
fish is only on shabbos and minerg
mitzvah to eat fish but it's not a
obligation fish has not the same
importance as meat in the jewish menu
meat is considered the
expensive outstanding type of food that
um
that's
that we have to have because corban is
the
sacrifice that we brought from meat and
we can't bring it from fish so fish is a
different thing
people like it like any other thing you
like on the shabbos anything they they
enjoy you're supposed to eat whether you
like dried fruit or nuts whatever you're
supposed to have on the shabbos pleasure
in shabbos but obligation to eat on
shabbos is the meat
fish is only a mitsubishi obligation but
but fish is
not on the same level is on the same
level as nuts it's just something that's
popular people like to eat
more than that it has a certain
significance to it fish that
it's considered a uh
during the flood
the fish were not killed during the
flood the fish had a special day they
kept their mean they didn't
integrate with the different types the
animals integrated with each other and
they intermingled each other
like the people did the animals did the
fish didn't
the fish have a special uh
we should say kadusha certain
certain importance
that fish never intermingled within with
the non uh
species
therefore they were not destroyed during
the big flood which all other species
would destroy they have a special
importance because of that so therefore
they have this this
special mitzvah
mushroom please
when you cook
tuned for shabbos yes
now you're not allowed to cook in
shabbos right
so what type of
spoon
the child
or any food
that's made before shabbos
should be
cooked
at least half of the amount has to be
cooked
you mean you don't put on the on the
fire right before shabbos it should be
cooked at least half way they could eat
it ali they attract if you really have
to eat it you can eat it the way it is
but you shouldn't put a single raw thing
on the fire right before choppers it
should be at least halfway cooked before
um
isaac a future leading rabbi isaac
is it true
is it true that you can't brush your
teeth on shabbos
uh no
but it depends
how you brush your teeth
and i'll tell you how you're allowed to
brush your teeth in shabbos
the latter brushes
if three things
are
kept
number one
that you don't make your teeth bleed
gums if they have very sensitive gums
and they bleed then you can't do it in
chapters
well they do it very softly but they
shouldn't be done the weather because
you're not allowed to make blood come
out from yourself that's one of the
malacca when malachi said in chapter 39
you can't make blood come out
number two you cannot use toothpaste
because toothpaste is mamakik we said by
the skins that you take the flesh and
you smooth it out the marker
since it's a paste you know another
flattened out of paste in shabbos
and number three when you finish
brushing your teeth you cannot wash the
toothbrush
you have to wait till after shabbos
because you're not allowed to prepare on
shabbos for after shabbos so you're
watching it now for tomorrow that you
can't do you have to leave it until
aftershocks those three things that we
have then you can wash your teeth
wait safe tooth falls out or
something
you get money for it
not a champion
but it's gonna bleed in during shabbos
it falls out it falls out
you can't stop it falling out you didn't
knock it out did you
came up by itself so
it bleeds by itself you can't do
anything about it
thank you isaac very good question you
need we need
good breath on shabbos code this we need
our breath should be good there's a way
to brush your teeth the right way on
shabbos
and mouthwash of course is permissible
on shabbos listerine i mean
mouthwash
have good breath
yeah beatrice
you were discussing about the fish
before and i was just wondering i know
sephardic people that i know
have a lot of um
amulets or different things they put on
the wall with fish
in a certain position i was just
wondering about that what significance
it has the significance is that
fish
are
creations that i in horror cannot
affect them
evil eye
and fish are kind of considered
different places in the torah since
they're in the water you can't see them
very much
there are those are breezes in the world
that einhorn cannot affect them
so some people uh
uh
like to put pictures of fish around the
sort of they feel it's help saving them
from evil eye and so on like that so
that's the type that's
that's what's behind it
and the other question i have is is just
are you going to cover these other
things next week
i hope so
no because otherwise i was going to ask
you questions about them now because a
lot of them i really want to know the
answers yes
hashem god gives a health and life i
hope to finish it off next week
and maybe add some things also
we have devoted students here rabbi
mentioned i can't wait till the next
class
you know in suspect tomorrow night
after he had a class after the other
class maybe up up ahead
how's
yes the question is
uh this individual allows to open
plastic in or like you said
mouthwash
bottle
to break unscrew
to unscrew the plastic bottle well to
screw this way you can do it but if
you're breaking the uh
the uh
what it called the seal
that's a problem
and that's a very big controversy among
the rabbis today
if you to open up
different uh bottles and things like
that by breaking the seal
so uh it's better not to
but it have to be very important then
you could be able to do it with
javascript
i'm thinking a very simple way but it's
very complicated but but it's um but we
can
it's very necessary
a child needs some milk for a job or
something like that you have to open up
the container
or something very important then it's
you can rely on those opinions that it's
permitted for best to if they if you can
see you'll have a need for it on shop
it's best to open it before shoppers
open these things before shopping
if you think you're going to need it yes
thank you anatoly miriam please
um it's in regards to the fish am i
correct the fish got double blessing
um as far as god bless the fish twice
has a special blessing so maybe that's
the strength of the fish
the symbolize of the fish
of such a thing oh okay that's what i
was told
that you heard
yes that's what i was told that the fish
got double was the animal that got
double blessing by god i don't know
does anybody hurt did anybody hear about
that
no
i'll
look into it and look into it but i'm
not aware of it okay
maybe maybe she's having to tell them
ode on top of my own maybe it was on
there
all right
miriam you have to do some homework
there we want to know
linda
when you make kirishan shabbos is it
preferable to use sweet wine or can you
use any wine and can you use is grape
juice okay
same as a wine
well
number one it's a mitzvah to make unwind
if you're able to not grape juice
some people
suffer afterwards from dizziness they
don't feel good so for sure you
shouldn't drink wine it doesn't mean you
want to feel good in chapters so that's
worthwhile to make on grape juice and
unwind because i'm making that feel well
but if a person is uh cursing me or more
of a lighter wine and easier not so
strong
also it's meant to have red wine
even though it could be made in any
color but it's mixed like a red wine
and
of course the other thing you asked
grape juice to wine and to
sweet
whatever you like better whatever
wine that you would enjoy that's what
you make
and when you make kitties you have to
take the wine from the you made keisha
and share that with everybody at the
table but you can add wine too
right right
now
for everybody who here is kiddish to
taste the wine but if you don't you also
fulfilled your obligation if you don't
taste it it's a misfit to taste it he
thinks we have a lot of people there
there's not enough wine in one cup right
so we do is he pour wine into some of
the kawaii so therefore there's always
some of the wine for the original mixed
in and therefore pass around to
everybody
thank you
i mean it's good to test the food before
shabbat yes
for who for the mother that cooked or
anyone
well
my son comes he comes i have to taste
the food he said i gave it better be the
one who cooked it because
if everybody in the family's going to
start more salt the less salt and pepper
on this side you're going to end up
but it's a mitzvah
besides that to taste it for everybody
to taste it some people get carried away
it's called tasting it it takes some
more it takes some more it takes you
want enough food for shabbat some people
taste it so much that uh so it's a taste
that that's all but not to eat who knows
what
so but it's a myth to taste it two
different reasons the reason the taste
would make it better that the malabasa
should taste it she's the one who makes
the food another another thing i said
the person should taste it in order to
fill the
melon
thank you thank you thank you
avi and who else
that there's a concept that you
shouldn't eat too close to uh
shabbos so that you're hungry and you
could appreciate the meal
what time would that start would that be
or is that a concept
yes no no
it's
the time
of course
it's two things involved number one
the person who knows that by eating
before
will kill his appetite so then if you
stop eating whenever you will it's going
to cause a lack of appetite it could be
hazardous would be for god's sakes
it's called the time
of shabbos in order to be able to enjoy
the food but we don't uh
uh consider that the right thing to do
because if you're fast and you come to
shabbat you don't feel good you come to
shaman supposed to feel good so
therefore you don't fast they have shots
but
if a person knows that by what he's
going to eat he's going to kill his
appetite
but the law prevents us from eating from
katana
means
in the day if he had started six o'clock
to six o'clock it would be 3 30 if the
sun down would be six at six o'clock so
from 3 30 on you shouldn't be eating a
lot to eat a snack but not to eat a lot
at that time so you could taste the food
then oh yeah yeah
we have young children and we typically
eat dinner around six o'clock i was
wondering if you're allowed to make
hiduche and bring in shabbat early and
if so how early
well yes a lot of people bring in
shabbos early
but
it should not be before plaga
when i said before 3 30
to 6 o'clock when the shia is half of
that time which will come out to be
quarter to five
you should not make kills before then
plug in
after that you can make kilos and bring
shabbos in because it depends on how big
the longer the day is i'm telling the
day six till six
the day starts at six and ends at six
they have exactly 12 hours
so then
quarter to five but almost impossible
they keep fluctuating the whole time so
they have to make a difference that's
going every week to see exactly when how
to do that it's a very complicated thing
when the day starts it starts with the
sunrises
i'm just giving an idea of of more or
less what the time is
but certainly allowed to make shabbos
early yes
episode
and the calendars do tell us the certain
accounts of the schools mostly
have these calendars tell us
when you're the earliest you can make
the early shabbos
if you check to shoot you know different
schools have it
they make that calculation
and you're quite linda yes
you're explaining why we do things i
mean i know i do it i want to know why i
do it
why do i serve the fish to the filter
fish and before i bring the meat to the
table the fish has to go off the table
with all those dishes and all the
silverware
well that's sort of stretching it but it
comes from the fact that
the gemara tells us it's not healthy to
eat meat and fish together it's not
healthy
so therefore we don't fish together
in that vein
before we
serve the next course which is a meat
course usually either chicken soup or
whatever it is you're supposed to eat a
piece of color and drink something
between in order to wash out your mouth
from the fish so you don't want the fish
meat to come together so you're saying
make sure to take the fish off the table
and and all the dishes and that's a
little bit a little bit stretching it
but that's that's the reason behind it
people shouldn't come and also they see
a piece of fish in the middle of the
soup and they'll take the fish because
we consider it not healthy to
fish together it's a big problem
sometimes that we have sometimes on some
of the products that we buy
that
there's fish mixed into it anchovies
they're having a big problem with some
of the foods they put anchovy fish
well linda did you say all the
silverware goes off just what you ate to
fish with the fork yeah
right that's right that's right whatever
touch the fish
whatever sasha we use it different for
the meat when the meat comes next that's
where it comes from to be careful not to
eat the fish together this is considered
not healthy
so since it's not healthy therefore you
have to keep it it's not just a custom
but the word says it's not healthy we
have to abide by it
what
well if
it depends if you eat with a fork and
sometimes you might tell you what's your
hand so then you have to wash your hands
what what
it's it's not because it's not healthy
so therefore
yes
um about the fish we're supposed to eat
we're not supposed to separate fish from
the bones what about the meat let's say
if the bones from the fish
fish bones from the yeah what about the
meat should we bring meat boneless meat
let's say if it's a steak should we
bring to the table and cook meat without
bones or uh
you have to be careful not to make
boiler you want to eat it but you have
to uh by me it's
one more question my daughter she always
asked for shabbat she want me to braid
her hair for uh for the show do am i
allowed to make braids
let's say her her hair
i promise i'm gonna ask that question
no you need to make every shabbat will
have argument for that
if you make writing here the girls have
long hair they want to braid it
on shabbos on shop on shabbos
when she goes to show if it's done in a
sloppy way you can do it if you do a
good job you can't do it
so sloppy braid is okay
too professional not okay
that's tell your daughter this coming
showers
i remember someone said to me that
you can't open a bottle on shabbos
because
it may become a vessel that you pour
into
something like that
that you're creating a
yeah since it's a seal on it and it
can't be used by breaking the seal
you'll be able to use that and make it
to a vessel that's the reason for it
so since now you're able to use it you
couldn't use it till now because it was
sealed
so now by breaking the seal you are
causing it to be able to be used as a
vessel to pour in and out from it all
right maybe i'm therefore for instance
if you have something that you're not
going to use afterwards if you're the
type of
let's say you have a
small bag of potato chips in your great
and you and you tear it open you're not
going to use that anymore you just
finish it to throw into the garbage it's
a big bag like that tear it open that's
a problem because you're going to keep
the potential being stored there
afterwards but something
or a uh a bottle
a carton bottle that if you destroy it
you cut down the slash it down and open
it that way you can't use it anymore
it's not making a vessel but if you open
it from the top and do it such a way
that it's a problem bring it to a vessel
okay
i i don't want to carry this too far but
the idea of making it a vessel it's a
vessel to begin with and that's why the
water can't use it it's not a vessel you
can't use it it's sealed
oh it's nothing it's not usable you're
making a use of it you can't pour it in
and out because it's sealed yes
but these are the
the challenges of sharpies when it takes
a little slight
to use you a little to make it
exciting things about shopping exciting
shabbos is exciting
helen right helen marion marion
i understand that if you have a birthday
cake you have to cut around the letter
why is that not allowed to cut a letter
am i right
well
one of the 39 forbidden
activities is mike
is erasing letters writing is
unforbidden
uh
erasing is forbidden so if you're
cutting the letters so you're raising
those you can't use like you're
destroying the letters that we've
written
but it's not such a simple thing if the
letters are edible like it's made out of
sugar or whatever it might mean
different things that you and they said
you're allowed to
cut those type of lettuce that you get
that are edible
because it's only made to to cut to
destroy yourself
if you have letters that were made to to
stay you can't destroy them but the
letters that were made in such a way
that they're edible you just heat them
up it's not considered
considered storing letters
thank you mary thank you
any other questions
endorphy
i feel bad but i want to ask again
don't feel bad
feel good
i don't know how to do it or what to do
but i heard that there is something that
you can kosher the wine
wine that you make a baja on it and you
didn't drink it
and you want to use it again
on the wine he didn't drink it so what's
the problem why can't you drink a little
bit and you have left over a lot of wine
okay
yeah
what you're talking about is the
following
that if you drink
from a coast of wine
you cannot make kiddush on that
afterwards you can send something to
rank from it so therefore
it
calls pogo
because people drink it from it it makes
it sort of not so geshmaq anymore people
drinking from it but if you take wine
that was not drunk from and pour it into
it so that's maksha the wine that's in
the coast and therefore you can make
kinder sharma
yeah
then you can make kinder shot of course
you have to coast has to be
uh washed out you can't visit drink from
the coat the wine line a drink from but
the coats have to be washed out since
i've drank from the coast before my kids
you have to wash out the coast but the
wine becomes kosher by pouring in from
the
wine that was not touching the bottle
into that into that wine
we're talking kosher for kids dewine
always is kosher because very well
