Okay. So, we're very very um honored to
have Robbie Sask address us for our
monthly get together and um just want to
let you know exactly a little bit who he
is. We're I just can't even believe that
he agreed to do this because he's the
most busy person that I know in the
world helping the world and he's a very
renowned speaker
Rashiva. He helps many many many people.
I'm not saying that you should not call
him for advice, but he does give a lot
of people advice about a lot of
different things. He does a lot of
medical referrals and and Shashiva and
he's pretty much like he's a very very
famous person. So, we're very happy that
he's giving us a little bit of time to
help us in our little organization here
with he's made many many many hundreds
of people have gone to the with his
guidance.
He's very close with a lot of the past.
He has stories about from from Kanye,
anybody who you've heard of, he was in
their place discussing the shut up
questions with them. So, we're really
happy that you can help us a little bit
out with our questions.
Um, thank you very much for coming. Over
the past 40 years, you had so many
experiences. Can you share with us the
most fascinating show story that you
experience on the shin that you can see
clearly how Hashem guides the
Okay, good to everyone. Thank you so
much for having me. And before I start,
I would just like to say that in as much
that we're going to do something
constructive and we're going to say some
diver tonight, I would like to dedicate
tonight's session,
a soldier, which I happen to know his
family. His name is Alio Binyamin
El Makayam who is a French boy who came
to Isisro and he got engaged in Isisro
and his wedding is due to be Sunday
night tomorrow night. two weeks ago he
was at Miluim
to come to serve in Gaza and he of
course his family told him you're
getting married just postpone it you can
get a official exemption from joining
the army
at this time of your marriage and he
says
[Music]
and I will stay back and celebrate my
marriage I'm going there
and unfortunately he was killed last
Friday at the war. Tomorrow night,
Sunday night is his date. He will not be
there. He'll watch from Ginsium. It's a
very it's a phenomenal tragedy.
But uh this is what life is all about.
And I would like to dedicate
and of
elim
bless memory with a and a hope that all
the soldiers and all the should come
back home.
This is an introduction.
Now switching around from basa o to bas
hamish
and coming to your most fascinating
question about a fascinating story.
There are many but you know you asked
the question and what enters my mind is
as follows.
Some
I had a family I live in Israel. When am
I in Israel leaving Kiryati Telstone had
a family who was in a very very deprived
situation.
Uh they had five children. The father
was mentally unstable
and his wife was diagnosed with cancer.
Two of his children were not well, one
mentally, one physically.
and he was coming to me on a daily basis
calling me and basically needed my
undivided attention which unfortunately
I was not in a position to give him
around the clock. So he came to me on a
Wednesday
and
he comes and he tells me I would just
like to ask for a favor. He was not the
only one during my long history. I may
look younger than I am but I'm not. And
he said, "I am going to commit suicide
tomorrow
and I would like to deposit my five
children with you after my suicidal. You
should look for their well-being and I'm
basically coming to say goodbye to you."
I told him, "What's the catch? Arsh once
told me when somebody comes to threaten
that he's going to commit suicide, you
know, he's not doing it." But I asked
him, "What's the c?" He says, "I need in
order for me to procrastinate this
master plan, I need 4 hours of your
undivided attention. No phone calls, no
shurim, no stopping over, just me and
you. Could you give it to me? I'm
willing to postpone."
I said, "I'll give it to you." It was a
summer day. And I said to him, you know,
Friday, I don't say shim. Friday morning
is a long Friday. to come nine o'clock
in the morning after Davening, we'll go
together to Natana to the beach and
recording in progress
and we are going to
uh have an hour and a half on the way
there, an hour and a half on the way
back. We'll sit on the beach for an hour
or two and I hope we can sort it out.
Okay, he's all excited. He comes in
Friday morning and we drive to Natana.
To make a long story short, there's
nothing to do with the shiddok. We go
there. We sit on the yam. We took some
beach chairs. We rented. We sat for two
hours. And he's telling me his life
story and what why really wants to
commit suicide and this and that.
As I walking, I said, "It's getting
late. You know, it's like 1:00 in the
afternoon. We got to go back to your
shaleim and take some time." And you
know, it's Friday afternoon. We said,
"Let's wrap it up and we'll talk on the
way back." And as I'm walking off the
beach, there are two guys, elderly guy
and a younger guy, playing pingpong,
matkot, they call it in Israel, on the
beach, you know, with a hard ball. And
I'm standing walking on the side. And
all of a sudden, the older man hit the
ball in a way that it went, you know, I
was I was pretty much to the side, but
it hit me right over the eye. It hit me
in such a way I fell on the floor and I
felt like I'm fainting. I saw the stars.
My whole face got bruised. This
lifesaver came from the matsil. The
lifesaver came. He brought some ice,
some water. They put it on my thing.
Anyhow, okay. After 10, 15 minutes. So,
it's, you know, I got a boo boo and I'm
going to go home. It's going to be fine.
And the elderly man comes over to me.
tells me
you are bes with me. You are not I see
you have on me. I said I don't have any
on you. You played ball. It happens.
It's fine. I'll be fine. I'll come home
and two days I won't even know that I
had it.
Okay. He says, "The only way that you
could prove to me that you're not I live
here upstairs in Kiryatans right next to
hospital. Come to my house and
I'll give you some and a cup of coffee
and we'll walk away as friends and you
give a bro in the house and then I know
I asked the guy with me."
He said, "No problem. The guy's giving
free cake and coffee. We going." Okay.
We come to the house. We sit down and I
say and this and that before I leave the
house. He tells me
we talk a few words in the other room. I
said go ahead. Takes me to his room. He
burst out crying. He says
me and my wife didn't have children for
nine years. We are Holocaust survivors.
We couldn't have children. We had this
daughter Estie. It's a lovely girl. She
went to Bisakov. She was here in
Kiryataz in
atmosphere but she was a little bit more
open-minded girl and she continued she
studied she went to Barlan University
she has MA and she cannot get a amongst
the she's called modern orthodox they
don't want to look at her among the
modern they say she's from Natana from
not here and not there she cannot get
married you look to me like perhaps
perhaps in the way you talk and you
speak English and she speaks English and
she wants an English speaking guy. Maybe
you have an idea for her. I said, "Bring
her across." You're sitting in the other
room. She comes out this lovely girl, 29
years old. She's talking to me and she's
telling me what she's doing, what she
and five 10 minutes conversation. She
made a very remarkable impression on me.
And she said she wants really an
American boy. she wants with a shama,
but an open-minded guy that would let
her continue with her career and go on
and so on and so forth. Maybe you know
somebody that said to be honest with you
off the cuff I don't have anyone but you
know who knows maybe one day something
will come across. Okay, push fast
forward. The guy didn't commit suicide.
We got back home everything is fine and
dandy. A year goes by. I get a phone
call on Friday morning from one of my
friend who's a role in he says
I need a favor. I said what's the favor?
He says I have this guy Balu. He's 31
32. He comes around to my colo this and
that. He's going to St. Louis to his
on Tuesday and it's Friday morning. In
those days, people used to fly from mero
like you know it was 8:30 in the morning
TWAA flight going to America coming in
like 1:00 in the afternoon but you know
you're flying you're coming 7 hours
earlier you still can make it in the
summer people still used to take that
flight he tells me you're sitting for 3
hours on the plane there's a mechanical
problem they're not traveling today
they're leaving an hour and 25 minutes
after the if he comes back to your no
way you're making it he has to make the
flight. If he's coming to you, I live 20
minutes closer to the airport. He may be
able to make his bags are checked in. He
has to leave. The first three stars are
out. He has to take a taxi. He run to
the airport hopefully to make the
flight. Could he come? I said, "Hey,
there's another few guests, but he could
come over." And to make a long story
short, the boy comes over and he made a
remarkable impression. I spoke Friday
night at the one place he came. He
asked, he has the right questions.
Shabas I have a noishir comes to the
novicary came to he made a remarkable
impression then I asked him what are you
looking for he tells me it's very hard I
really want to live in there and I'm
looking for girl with but I can't take a
girl boom bing you know what is estie
from a year ago maybe she's a sh for him
I know nothing about the estie I have
zero contact numbers he tells me but
it's not going to happen now because I'm
leaving. He tells me in this I'm leaving
tonight and I'm going to America and I'm
staying to
I'll come after if it's I'll go out. I
said to him, I heard once from
when comes by, an opportunity comes by,
it says in
that even after you make a you finish up
a
said, you know, of an afternoon,
everybody's fasting and not in the mood
and how long do you have to wait? We're
not talking about going to the Lakewood
freezer for three months. We're talking
about just being there for five, six
hours and you're going to go. No, when
the right time comes, you make the
adlas. I said, "This is a window of
opportunities." He tells me, I told him
about the girl, the impression she made.
He says, "I got to leave tonight." I
said, "You know what? Here's the deal.
Give me five minutes after the I'll try
to find the girl. If I get you a date
tonight, I get you tonight. I guarantee
you you'll be Tuesday night in St.
Louis. Olive Savari. I had a very good
contact, one of the general manager.
We'll get you on the plane tomorrow
night. Don't worry." P. No. I says five
minutes. And I didn't go to Davin May. I
Davin May at home. I waited for the
first minute and I said, "Where in the
world I I don't know the family name. I
don't know anything who, what, who,
when, where." But I did know that she
lived a block, 3/4 of a block away from
Behim Liato. I called Beh.
I called a head nurse. I said, "Give me
one of the girls from the Sher Lumi that
were working in the hospital. Give me
one of the girls." I said,
Okay, you go to the next street. I don't
know the name of the street. The third
house on the right on the fourth floor,
the right door. I remember there's a
blue mash. Knock on the door. Say, give
my number. Say SOS. The father should
call me. She said, I said,
I don't know the name. Just go there
right now. You got three minutes to
deliver the good. This is like two
minutes after this. She says,
"You just go to the fourth floor there.
Run over." And then she runs over and
this guy tells me, "I'm leaving. I'm
sorry. You know, it's a very nice try,
but I'm leaving." And not only that, the
taxi is already honking outside. I went
outside. I took 10 shekele to the taxi
driver. I said toot,
"We're not using your services. I'm
going to give you 10 shekele to dismiss
you, but just wait five more minutes.
The phone rings in my house. He says
to you, "This is you. You're the guy." I
said, "Yeah." I says, "Mst."
I said, "Where is she?" She says, "She's
in your car by somebody." So, you have a
number for her? He says, "Yeah."
So, you going to give it to me, but tell
me. I said, "I don't have the time to
talk to you. I'll talk to you later.
Just give me the number." He gives me
the number. Put down the phone. I pick
up the call. And on the other line,
Estee says,
Can you remember me? Sure, I remember
you. What are you doing tonight? He
said, I can't we going to the going with
friends for the pizza shop? I says, I
have a date for you. He said, who's the
guy we have to be? I said, you're not I
made my due diligence over Shabas. I'm
telling you, it's good for one date. I'm
holding him off, taking him off an
airplane that he has to go.
Could you be ready? He says, give me an
hour and a half and I'll be ready. I
told the guy I went to the taxi. I paid
him the teno, sent him off and the guys
the guy says, "You better get me on the
flight tomorrow night. I don't know why
I'm doing this. I feel so uncomfortable.
It took me so nicely the whole chabas.
I'll go for it." Anyhow, to make a long
story short, they went out. The guy I
told him, "Call me after whenever
whatever time it is." 3:00 in the
morning, the phone rings. I just came
back. Oh, she's such a marvelous girl.
Said that I never in my life met such a
girl. This is Mahashem yra. Never ever.
Then he tells me, "We made another date
for tomorrow, 1:00 in the afternoon. My
flight is at 12:00 at night, so we can
hap another date." I said, "Okay, no
problem. Just let me know after the
date. I can get you to get you on the
seat." He goes in the afternoon and he
calls me 7:00 in the evening. He says,
"I'm cancing my American trip. I'm
staying in Nancy." A week and a half
later, two weeks later, they engaged
Kasen Kala. I just participated in a bar
mitzvah of their fourth child two years
ago right before Corona three years ago.
Masleto married. I went to shak I used
to go a lot to the daily to consult and
I asked him a question. I said like
this. If I take one of my friends in the
Bureau of Vital Statistics and I ask
him, "What's the odds?
It's Basher. What's the odds that this
Mishugn is going to come to me,
threatened, commit suicide? I'm going to
go with him to Natala. This guy is going
to hit the ball in my face. I'm going to
get on the floor. He's going to tell me
to go to his house." I went to his
house. He's all of a sudden giving me a
of a girl I haven't known from
nowhere coming by very bizarre
circumstances.
A year later this guy is getting off a
plane
getting off a flight on a Friday morning
to come to my house. He doesn't know me
from Adams and the whole shabas I fall
in love with the guy love at first sight
and I'm able to track down the girl and
make the he says is this what basher is
all about? Could you please explain I've
been there I've done that. I've been
around the band. I've been a lot of
shidim. But this is what it's all about.
So told me as follows. He says he heard
once from the
was one of the greatest
in the past century. Thousands of came
to listen to his pearls of wisdom. He
said as follows.
is
bum is going sitting on the and the is
not moving. She sees the bum sees
nothing.
He says
takes off the cataract
from the eye
there. The problem is that we have
cataracts on the eye and we can't see
those mal but the mal are flying around
all over the place. He says who showed
you was you think you're a he tells me
how many did you make at that time I
made like 70 I said you think
something logistically makes sense this
boy this girl check the background my
humble opinion quote unquote this is
match made in heaven but every you
should know is a nine
you think with your
that this is what it's all about but
it's
One time took off the and you see the
you say the very very improbable
unheard of circumstances happened and
this is the guy who married this girl
right now we're going to have children
and
all because this took me off his rock to
commit suicide and this TWWA plane never
took off.
See indeed it is
we are not theim and we are never ever
gonna know what's going to make this
gave me such a phenomenal as I said I
finished nearly I single-handedly made
over close to 200 just under 200
probably another few hundred that came
to me with the problems and I advised
them and I escort and this nice gave me
such a different vision such a different
edge a different perspective
as to how to look at you think this
makes sense this doesn't make sense when
the bash is all about basher I believe
in it 100% and even when a no-brainer
happens it is basher and even when the
most bizarre and improbable happens it's
also basher and when we dotadas we think
oh I'm the greatest shot on earth oh I
could sweet talk I could do could do
that it's all merely
We are doing ours in order for to do his
and the more it's also you know say
timing you put in the gear you put in
the toil you put in the work you put in
your sweating sometimes it's like you
know you put so much time into it and a
lot of times you know you work on a girl
you work on a boy you could work on a
boy you know you read him 40 she look
this guy's never ever going to get
married in his life it's
But at the end of the day, the is going
to be matso. Matso is something you find
in the street. You just walk in, it's
all of a sudden, boom, diamond rings on
front of you and you find it. We have to
do ours and does his. Of course, in our
scale of priorities, in our ability to
maneuver, we're not going to do
something which looks to us, you know,
totally outrageous. We're going to work
with SEO. We have this and today we have
all this technical support
infrastructure which helps us to sift
and to narrow the search and basically
this and that and this and that. We
think we the graceim we know oh that's
that's going to go definitely we're
going to make this shabaton and we're
going to make this this and we're going
to make this conference and we're going
to get together and we're going to put
them together. It's always
a match made in heaven. We have to know
it. Many times we think that we are we
are super sophisticated and we are able
to deliver the goods. But the truth of
the matter you could come to such
stories which is the improbable and the
unbelievable happens reveals in front of
your eyes and then you see how great I
always tell people come to me with
sorus. I say don't tell a kadesh how
great yours are. Tell yours how great
aes is. And I'm ready for your next
question, Mrs. Harup. Rabbit Harup, I'm
sorry if I
Okay, thank you. Um, I wanted to know if
you have an opinion about when it is a
good idea to get somebody else involved
in the sh that you're in the middle of
doing, how if it could be helpful, it's
not helpful, when it's helpful. And I
know that you've gone to
make it only.
It's an excellent it's an excellent it's
an excellent excellent question and I
definitely believe that if
tells us
[Music]
that if somebody has to come to someone
sometimes it could be a godly could be a
rabbi it could be a social worker could
be an uncle could be another that maybe
has a different twist
Definitely not be ashamed and not be be
there each one has to be there for the
other. I know that sometimes a shhat
feels like you know the is being
taken away from me especially when he
has to share with another and all of a
sudden it's co-brokering the sh with
someone else but the truth of the matter
as we say by us in Latin ipso facto
there's nothing to be ashamed and on the
contrary if there is a need to have if
you get stuck and you feel like somebody
is going to help you you never ever lose
from having anata from a friend anata
from a rabbi and other rabbi and if it's
meant to be have another person helping
you assisting you if you get stuck
there's nothing wrong with I want to
tell you a story I'm talking about
stories I had this boy
nine years ago a 37year-old alter he
went I he held a pinas he went out with
120 girls from the age of 21 he used to
have a diary he used to write down every
single girl one time two times when this
he had a whole booklet of why he moved
the computer. He had a program. It was
very sophisticated. Any he couldn't find
the shhat
comes over and she tells him she has a
perfect perfect sh and a girl excellent
girl this. Anyhow, she says the problem
is the girl is 31
and the girl said to her that she's
masking to listen to only if the guy is
under 33. If he's a day over 33,
She says, "How old are you?" She says,
"I'm 37 and a half." He says, "You know
what? Let's tell the girl such a
beautiful sh let's tell the girl you're
33 and this." And he says, "The people,"
he says, "I feel uncomfortable with it."
He tells him, "Let me take care of it."
Anyhow, she went to the girl. She told
him, the girl told her, she kept she
kept on going out with the guys two
times, three times, five times. Anyhow,
by the eighth and ninth time looks like
was a like, you know, like they're
really hitting it off with each other.
The girl goes one night, she meets the
she tells
this is all
when I say 33, I mean it.
And if you're lying to me, I want to
tell you something. And if I find 34, a
day older than 33 that you told me, I'm
going to break the shiv. And I'm darn
serious about it. I'm going to break the
sh. So I want you to tell me in yada put
a hand on the heart and tell me behind
that boy is not a deal. She says listen
I got the information. I can only tell
you what I read from the paper. Paper
says 33 but you want I can reconfirm it
again. And yeah thehat comes over and
this and that. She talks to her friends.
She said she'll get 10 times this and
that. Just tala is 33 and that's it.
She'll overcome. It's not a big deal.
Not a problem.
Anyhow, they go out 12 times, 13 times
and the before the last time the the boy
comes over to the sh says, "I just
wanted you to tell find out if the girl
is ready. I want to propose tonight."
She said,
she went to the girl. She says, "Are you
ready?" Girl says, "Yeah, I'm actually
33. You promised me it looks fine. It
looks right. It looks this, it looks
that and this and this and that. And
yeah, she tells the boy, "I just want to
tell you, you know, before you're going
to propose the night before, she says, I
would like to tell you that this is the
hurdle that we have. You know, we're
going to have to overcome it." But I
consulted with big shakan. They all told
me, "Just keep your mouth shut. Buy her
a nice ring. Send the beautiful flowers.
as they say in the middle.
She wants the ring. She doesn't want the
boy. She's interested in going out with
the just go ahead and
he tells me I feel so bad about it and I
I how could I lie? He tells me comes
over to talk to me. I say you know what
I'm going tomorrow at 1:00 in the
afternoon. I have an appointment by
barman
was after the rash. used to go to. He
looked like a fragile old
unsophisticated man. He was one of the
biggest pikim that I knew around.
Anyhow, I told him, "Come with me to and
tell your problem and your story and ask
him before you go to propose tonight."
He says, "I have a 6:30 date in Mal." I
said, "No problem. We'll be done with is
not going to give you more than three
minutes." And I get a phone call from
his brother who lives in Ramote.
He says,
and my parents are going to be your
so nasty with me. tells me
you're going to be the signer, the
co-signer, the underwriter for their
death certificate by you telling him
such to go to I said listen I in my vast
experience over decades
if you take from you're not so let's go
to he says
You going up down to hell. He was
disturbing guy. 37 never found a he's
going 120 girl because a stupid girlish
a couple of years later. So what? Who
cares? They love each other. Let him
just do it. Anyway, we walk into
we come in and I start telling you know
Yiddish. The boy didn't understand you.
So I explain him the story. I told him
to this. So closes his eyes. He takes he
tells him he says what's your name? He
says he says
he says
every single person has
there's nobody without you can see
there's somebody the girl the boy is
clearus
flawless.
There always are.
You have a big you're 37.
A boy 37 is a big.
So you want to add on to your is another
of being a shakran. You have your
already. What do you need another for?
You have a you are 37 years old.
You don't have to add on another. Stay
with that you have and be truthful. He
says let me tell you something. come
tonight to the date. He tells him, "Do
you have a ID card?" Like a like, you
know, like a like a driver's license. He
says, "Yeah." He pulls it out. He says,
"Before you go to the Don't even start
talking to her, before proposing, before
anything, he says, "Rebi, I bought
flowers. Just leave the flowers in the
trunk of the car. You come there, you
open your toad and tell her, I don't
know what people told you. I don't know.
We know each other for a couple months.
I have no idea what you know, what you
don't. But I want to reveal I know age
is a very vital component in your list
of demands and it's been I want you to
see how old I am and thereafter we'll
decide if we want to continue or not. He
says rebi but what's going to be? He
says you never lose for being truthful
and I give you a bra. Come to tell me
after it's a maz. Anyhow, the guy drives
out. He calls up his brother and his
brother calls me. He tells me, I don't
want to repeat here the pearls of wisdom
which I heard from the brother. He told
me how he says you're killing the we
know it. The girl has a sister-in-law is
a friend with my wife's friend and she
told her that if the guy 34 on a dead
body, she would get divorced after she
gets married if she hears she's so mugg
about the age. Ain't happening. What are
you doing? like what in the world are
you doing to my brother?
Anyhow, the bak is driving to the date.
He calls me up from the shaking. He says
says
he says
he's like tells me
my whole body is shaking but I'm going
to do it. And he walks into the date. He
sits down in front of her. He says
she pulls out his he shows it to her.
Read it. I don't know what you know what
you don't know. The girl looks at it.
She says, "I want to tell you
something." This
international matchmaker, everybody goes
to her for
swore to me
that you are not a day older than 33.
Well, while we were going out, you were
telling me some kind of stories. I made
I came out that you must be at least 35.
It's impossible because we spoke about
history in this. I put one and one
together and you're 35. I didn't know
you may be older but at least 35. I mean
you spilled the beans. You don't even
know what you said but I know you're 35.
And I said to myself as follows. It's
enough.
It's something to my core. or it goes
into my I can't but
if the boy will finish the shid and he
knows my ultimatum of a day not older
than 33 and he'll drive me come to
propose to me without exposing his cards
I'm going to say no when he proposes
but if he's going to be truthful to me I
know being truthful with your partner
for life is much more vital and much
more substant ancial than this ashanas
of mine which means very much to me once
he told me that and now I see you're 37
I'm willing to accept the flowers he
went to the back of the car he took the
flowers and they live happy ever after
what I want to say with that you know
it's a nice story but what I want to say
with that I said that if the boy would
have gone to shakanim and to his shak
and and he would have gone to the girl
let's just anal Analyze the story. All
of us together, we all sitting together.
Analyze the story. And if the boy would
have gone, what would have been? The
girl would have walked away. He's a
shakra and he's a kas. There's no sh.
Okay. His brother is threatening me. His
father is making me a signer on the
death certificate. Everybody's, you
know, baron le told him the vort. You
have a you already have your you don't
need additional. You don't have to pat
it with a cherry on top of the cream on
top of the cake ofis. You have it as is.
If that's the case, you see that the
it's not a story about it's just to show
you that sometimes you 100% with your
own eyes, with your own vision, just
don't tell them anything. It's a
no-brainer. The girl is threatening and
you're in love with each other. just you
know and probably statistically if you
would have lied it would have gone
through with another girl but in this
particular he wouldn't have because the
girl said if you are going to be a liar
I'm not marrying a liar I just want a
truthful guy and this is what brought
about so it's sometimes the for somebody
above who has a total different vision
is coming from a different dimension
from a different aspect and that's what
wraps up the sh yes the answer to your
question is yes get assistance. Could it
be a friend? Be another shotgun.
Somebody is coming from not your state
of mind. It could be a rabbi. It could
be a social worker. It could be a
psychologist. It could be anyone that
could assist and help. And you never
ever know what will be the final nail in
the coffin of this
or I don't want to call it a coffin. I'm
saying it sarcastically. to kill the
shock by thinking you smarter than the
system or vice versa to have the shock
working out.
Thank you.
Okay. Any anything else?
We're getting late for one more
for one more. One more. We'll do one
more.
One more question. Can you share an
experience when you felt an Especially
especially sense of satisfaction upon
completing the Shabbat.
My sense
even though we know it's not you and not
the but you still felt good about it.
Okay. So Map I'll tell you a story with
a family member of yours if you don't
mind. It's a story that today it's being
published already in some art school
books but since I am the one who was the
story happened with me so I will tell
you the story
your uncle I believe your uncle Rabbi
Riseman is your uncle is that correct
okay calls calls me some 22 years ago
and uh He did not call me actually.
Rabbi Foyer, your other uncle, Rabbi Von
Foyer is your other uncle. He calls me.
I'm sitting in my house. I was about to
leave and he calls me up and he says, "I
need a favor from you. I'm here with
Rabbi Ryman's daughter. It's a girl. We
have some special needs and she needs a
shock. There's a few kids there one
after the other and we need your help.
Maybe you have an idea." I said, "How
long are you staying in the country in
Israel?" He says, "We're leaving
tonight." That's it. You know, next time
when you come to Israel, give me a call.
It's lunch time and uh and uh
11.
I'm sorry.
I can't hear you. I'm I'm hearing
someone else.
Okay, I hear it. I hear it.
Okay. In any event, so um
he says to me, "Yeah, but if you know of
someone, you know, it's really a big
mitzvah and you're a cousin. We are
somehow second cousins and this and
that." And if you know anybody any to
make a long story short, I drive out of
my house. I come to the entrance to the
Kirya where I live and this nice boy
Moyio learns in the yeshiva there. Also
a boy with some, you know, very unique
nice boy. And he walks into my car. I
give him a halam. I said, "What's
American boy?" I said, "What's happening
with you? Are you in?" He says, "You
have to ask my mother." I said, "But you
interested in the he says, "Here's my
mother's phone number." Anyhow, I drop
him off in your shim. I go to her phone.
It was before the cell phones. I go to
her pay phone. I put in anybody who was
in Israel, the young women here, I don't
know if anybody remembers the days you
had this asimone, this token, you put
into the phone and you make a phone
call. And I give a phone call and I call
Mushi's mother, Mrs. Beer. And I said,
"Mrs. Beer, I just gave a right to Mush.
She's such a lovely boy. You ate by me
for Shabas. Are you into shid?" He says,
"Yeah, but you know it's we need this
special." I said, "You be, you know
what? I don't know what who went, but
just before I left the house, I got a
phone from Rabbi Foyer about his niece.
I don't know too much about her, but he
told me, and it sounds like it's worth
checking." He says, "Can I see the
girl?" I said, "When are you really to
see This is in an hour.
I said, "Let me see if I can work." I
took my second asimon. I called back
Rabbi Foyer. Say, "Rabbi Foyer, we have
a date. I want your you to come with
your niece, actually your wife, Luba, to
come with your niece and to see Mrs.
Beer. She wants to see the girl." I
said, "We're leaving tonight. We got to
pick up." I said, "Listen, Rabbi, for
you just called me two hours ago and I
have this idea. could you please with
all due respect go to see him by vagana
gave him an address he says give us an
hour she's coming with the girl any the
girl said for two hours Mrs. beer calls
me back. She says, "Rabbi Zatskin, this
is exactly what Moi needs.
Could we go we may set up a date for
tonight?" I said, "Let me find out. They
have tickets for tonight." I call Rabbi
Foyer and I said to him, he says, "We
got to go back." I said, "Let me speak
to your wife." I speak to Luba. I said,
"Luba, we have a this he's a lovely boy.
I know the boy. You know, it's not an
easy task. You know yourself. what kind
of um case we're dealing with and if
they willing to make a date, let's make
a date. Just that girl never went out.
The boss also never went out. Anyhow,
they went out that night. Rabbi, Mrs.
Forest stayed for another few days. They
went out the next day and the next day,
three consecutive dates. Well, this is a
shid that really had supervised and made
and the decision- making had to be but
the adult deals by the parents by the
people who escorted the young couple but
they're both lovely young couple and we
thought you know it may be a sh and I
called Rabbi Foyer
say he says call up Yo Yano is his
brother-in-law Rabbi Risman call him up
I said I haven't spoken to him for years
he said call him up tell him the story I
you know I said he doesn't he know
anything about it he says my wife told
the younger sister. She's the mother of
the girl of the mother of the girl.
That's Rabbi Saratkin read us some
and this and that. But anyhow, I pick up
the phone call and I get a answering
machine. You have reached the offices of
Rabbi Riseman. I says, "Younko,
your daughter is unofficially engaged.
Could you please contact me for further
details?" I wanted to get his attention.
10 minutes later, the guy calls me
forensically. He says, "What in the
world are you talking about?" I said
listen this and that and I told him the
family name is Mishb tells Shiv and the
nose and this and that. I said he's a
lovely boy. I know the boy for two
years. I don't know your daughter. I
heard about her and this and that but I
think it's you know this minimal
courtesy should be bestowed upon the
shik and you should come over. Say he
says to me listen it's not happening. My
wife is was due yesterday. She's
supposed to have a baby. She was
supposed to have a baby yesterday. I'm
not leaving her now on the 10th month to
go because you had some kind of a shed.
I said, "Why not?" He says, "I'm not
leaving her." I says, "Let's call up
your father-in-law, Rabbi Gifter,
Mrs. Karab's grandfather. Let's call him
up. See what he says." Anyhow, we made a
three-way phone call. Rabbi Gifter picks
up the phone. I say, "Rabbi Gifter, I
called him Uncle Raut." That's how we
called him in the Mishbak. We have a
story here with this shid. And I told y
uncle to come and this and that. He said
anybody who knew Rab Gifter you know he
was a a godle but he was a dynamic
decisive person and there's no arguments
that filling the pajamas. He says take
your pajamas and you
go towards Israel. He says but my wife
is he says she had eight kids without
you. She'll have another child without
you. I'll send mommy to be with her.
just go towards this road. He says,
"Take your bags and leave." He says,
"The hosta passport." He said, "Yeah,
foreign Canada airport." He lives not
far. Okay.
18 hours later, I get a phone call.
Rabbi Riceman calls me. I'm in AR in the
house. I want to meet the boy. He goes
and he meets the boy and he sat with him
for 5 hours and he calls me back with
tears in his eyes. He tells me
I couldn't have dedic
Rabbi Foyer and Rabbi Riceman inviting
the boy to come to be with him Shabas to
spend in Harno. They were in somebody's
house they want to spend in Shabas. So I
said to him, you got to get engaged. You
can't just call a boy to come to be with
the girl for Shabas before they get
engaged. He says, yeah, but we just want
to make sure and then we're going to end
next week. I said no next week you got
said when are you going to make let's
call again we call he says
he says just make finish the and then
you can come for shabas then next week
make a party to make a long story short
there was a party on Monday night
hundreds of people came to the party
because both mish pas are very
well-known mish pokas and this and that
and I was the guest speaker I was a sh I
was a guest speaker and I said I want to
tell you a story
Okay, I want to tell you a story.
I said I was I lost my father when I was
13. I came to America. I was born I was
in there and I went to America to be
with my uncle Rabbi Sarkin who was a
partner with Rabbi Gifter in Telih
and I remember I was 14 years of age. I
slept in the dormatory and Rabbi and
Mrs. riseman yank and kasi as as known
as at the time were going out and they
came to clinch off the shiv by the night
of the finishing the shiv they said the
night they're getting engaged and I'm
invited to come to rabbi gifter's house
and Mr. Ryman rabbi risman's father was
Mr. as old Hungarian person. He came to
Rabbi Gifter. They started talking and
they got into such a what we call in
Chinese imps
to come to work in his jewelry shop in
his silver shop and Robert Gif was
talking to him about signing lifetime to
be in colo. They couldn't make ends meet
and they're going and I'm sitting in
yeshiva at nine o'clock, 10 o'clock.
Everybody's talking yeshiva 11 o'clock.
What happened the engagement?
Everybody's waiting. It's not happening.
I got a message. It's not happening. I
went to the dormatory to sleep. 11:30 I
was a young boy. I went to sleep. My
uncle who was a diplomat came in there
and he ironed out some kind of a magic
formula made peace and at 1:00 at night
they drank lime. Rabbi Gifter told his
son Zali, Rabbi Zali Gifter was my
contemporary at the time. He says, "Go
to the dorm to wake him up. He's a
he should not be deprived from this
dancing in our I remember 1:00 he came.
He woke me up. I took off my pajamas. I
ran to Rab G's house. I remember the
nigim we danced around the table and I
was so touched by it. I wrote my mother
was alone a letter that look at Rabbi
Gifter. He's a god of this and that.
He's okay. He's a uncle. He's a far
uncle. This but it was important for him
that I thinking about me at 1:00 at
night. I should come dancing with him. I
really am extremely touched and I am I
owe him one. I'll never forget it to the
rest of my life. Okay. Now I said that I
could pay back and be the shin of this
sh that I was invited to dance. I think
that I paid back my dues for being
recognized and being there. As I sit
down,
the
brother-in-law gets up and he says,
"Your father died in front of everyone."
He says, "How do you know?" He says, "I
want to tell you how I know." He says,
"That night I was driving. I had my for
six years. My roommate and my kabus was
getting married in LA in Ramadan and I'm
driving on the kish ga I open up the six
o'clock evening news and they said my
father had a very rare blood type he was
laying there in the hospital dying
and they need blood a certain sug
certain type blood blood type anybody
who's around the hospital and area
that's what they said on the news with
this and this blood type they need
urgently please come into shame he says
I'm standing by the I know if I'm going
to go there, I'm not going to make the
hoop. And I'm contemplating back and
forth. I don't know whose life I'm
saving. I came, I ran in, they checked
my blood. They see it's not blood type.
They said they don't even have time to
draw my blood and to put it to to run
it. Normally, they some kind of a
filter. He said, "The guy is dying. Just
we know we have the blood type. Go to
the room." I came to the room. It's
called a direct transfusion. Those This
is a story 52 years ago. Okay. He says,
"I sat down. They took they put a
syringe. They put in a IV to me to take
out my blood and your father was on the
other side and they had to do it very
slow with a 2 and 1 half hour procedure
of me giving the blood to your father.
While I was giving your father blood,
your father was nif in the same time."
He says, "I couldn't go to the anymore.
What I saw in my eyes, I saw your father
was a big rabbi,
but I gave the last blood drop to your
father. And I came to nobody knew me.
And I'm walking around. I said, you
know, my last my father's last breath, I
lost my best friend's and I came there.
And now you took my brother-in-law who
has special needs and you were the shak
to go. I had to wrap up the shik of my
brother-in-law. You paid me back.
So I'm looking you know it's a story
that took over 25 years to transpire and
hashem is a very very successful shid
but has his own mysterious ways of
making pulling here the blanket to this
side stretching it over continents
countries centuries decades and
everything comes together for me it was
a sense of satisfaction I felt that at
the time need. I needed that smile in a
dark alley. This guy happened to marry
his sister by coincidence. Is the guy
who felt that they owe him one?
Everybody was paid back. So you're
asking me what kind of sense of
satisfaction? Yes, I did have much
satisfaction for this story. I want to
tell you just something to wrap it up.
It's getting late and it's overtime.
